I’m not entirely sure when or why I decided to slowly work through stylized cities of Exandria in gold but they’re very soothing to create and I’m slowly but surely developing the style for them as I go.
"In Jrusar, if you are lucky, you might come across Ephred, the master pastry chef known as the Shadow Baker." Spot illustration for Critical Role and Penguin Random House's recently released Exquisite Exandria. This one was for the Muffins of the Shadow Baker recipe!
Characters are Liz Marsham, Amanda Yee and Matthew Mercer's Shadow Baker.
I was re-watching the first episode of campaign three and once Matt got the part where he was describing Jrusar, he held his hand out like each finger was a separate pillar… and now I’m thinking that the city itself is made within the hand of a dead titan
First up are the Jrusar Joggers! These joggers are red and in the same style as the Nicodranas, Whitestone and Xhorhas joggers with a large logo on the left thigh.
Next we have the Forest Green Pajama Set! The shirt is long sleeve with a gray torso and green sleeves. The pants are green with a lighter green design that includes many different items from across all the campaigns.
Next is the 3rd version of the Ugly Critmas Sweater! The front and back feature various pets/familiars from all three campaigns and the back also has the classic CR logo. The color scheme is reds, greens, yellow and white.
Finally we have Bells Hells & CR Logo Crew Socks! One pair is dark green with gray toes and heels with some blue and yellow stripes along with the Bells Hells logo. The other pair is a teal blue with gray toes and heels with a white stripe and a light blue chunk at the top. Also has the CR logo minus words in white.
Byroden, Tal'Dorei: Byroden is a rapidly-growing frontier town in the south of the Tal’Dorei Republic. It is the hometown of Vox Machina’s twins Vex’ahlia and Vax’ildan, as well as Opal of the Crown Keepers. When the twins spoke of the place they left in 793, they considered it a backwater farming village, but after being razed by a dragon in 795, It was significantly changed by the time the Crown Keepers visited in 842.

Jrusar, Marquet: Jrusar is the capital city of the Oderan Wilds. It has a very distinctive appearance, as it is built into the sides of five stone tower formations rising above the Oderan jungle. The steep cliffsides give rise to stacked streets, and the city is navigated by means of cablecars, small air vehicles called brumeskippers, and flying mounts called simurghs. The tallest tower has a heavily-trafficked skyport, and skyships are often seen docked there.
It’s showcase day for @artists-guild-of-exandria‘s Creature Menagerie, so here is my piece—a simurgh! I included the dog head, hawk wings, and ruddy coloration as described for Jrusar’s simurghs, as well as adding in some peafowl-like elements that harken back to more traditional stylings of simurghs in folklore. I also referenced a Very Good Boy: the head is based on a photo of Sprigg O’Brien, Liam’s mini dachshund! So, I dubbed this one “Spriggmurgh” 🥰 It’s probably a little smaller than your average simurgh :)
Thanks to Rebecca Miles (vraix) for this art piece!
Shiny Stats day to you, Critters!
Our lives have been very busy since the start of Campaign 3, and in an effort to prioritize, we backburnered our Monster Analysis series (indefinitely, at the time). Well, as you may have noticed over the past couple of days, we finally had an opportunity to sit down and reflect on the battles that Bells Hells have faced so far, and the Monster Analyses are back! As we told our Patrons earlier this week, we’ll gather encounters as we find both time to write them and tie them together to the campaign’s events. Posts will be far more intermittent than previous campaigns, but they are back, for real!
With that in mind, with Bells Hells returning to Jrusar, we’re ready to comment on the encounters and creatures they faced during their initial stay in the city. We’re going to start off with this introductory post, and then post each analysis over the next week leading up to episode C3E022, all which will serve as both the usual monster analyses as well as give a brief refresher of what was going on before they left. Before we dive in, we need to establish our overarching framework:
Genuinely very funny to me that Fearne rocks up to gods and is like "what up bitch" and gets immediate answers that she proceeds to fully dismiss as natural phenomena.
Zephrah, Tal'Dorei: Zephrah is the home of the Air Ashari. It is situated in western Tal’Dorei. It is the hometown of Keyleth of Vox Machina, and Orym of Bells Hells. Both parties have spent time there during their adventures.
