JouKai ask: Favorite sleeping positions for them?
Jounouchi is shown sleeping on his side on several occasions.
Look at him, perfect angel (unreliable narrator).
So not a stretch of the imagination to say he's also a spooner when sharing a bed with someone. Kaiba, never in his life, knew he needed to be a little spoon but holy shit, it fixes him. (I mean not really, but kinda sorta.) It's equal opportunity though, eventually, Kaiba tries out spooning on a night when Jou unfathomably flops onto his side with his back toward Kaiba. Being the big spoon also feels great, even if he feels sappy burying his nose in Jou's hair. That too fixes him.
Alone, Kaiba is probably one of those people that sleep flat on his back (freak). So another favorite position of theirs is just Jou tucked against his side, Jou's head pillowed on his shoulder/upper arm, while Jou's arm is thrown over his stomach. I also love the imagery of intertwined legs, because you just want to be close with the other person in every possible way. 🥺
But watch out Kaiba! Jounouchi can and does sleeptalk/kick. 😂 Okay, we only need to lean into that for comedic effect. I'd rather they just hardcore cuddle the night away.

To Kaiba, words are tools. They lose meaning if you don’t use them correctly. At one point in their lives, he considered Jounouchi’s lack of thought, of precision, as to the words he spoke indicative of a life empty of meaning. The boy was just a mouth, feeding and feeding off his betters without anything to contribute in return.
Kaiba has been wrong before. Yet never quite so starkly as this, in all eighteen years of his life.
“You’re gonna be okay. Doctor’s coming. Just keep those pretty eyes open a little longer.”
Everything is fuzzy around the edges. He struggles to recall how he got here, body weak and slow, heart stuttering in his chest, limbs refusing to obey him. But he is captivated by the words that Jounouchi speaks, and he knows he couldn’t make his eyes stay closed for longer than a blink if he wanted to.
“Fucking reckless bastard. You’re lucky I love you so damn much or I’d kill you for pulling a stunt like this. Scaring the shit out of me. I’m letting you have it when you get better, you hear me? You don’t get to do this to me again.”
There are fingers in his hair. Tears on his cheek. The words should be meaningless. Jounouchi still does not think before he opens his mouth. Kaiba feels them burning into his soul. He will take them to his grave, even should he survive this, as Jounouchi promises he will.
Kaiba cannot muster the breath to say anything in return. He could not find the proper tools to suit the moment anyway.
But from Jounouchi, words are magic, and Kaiba thinks he might just be a believer at last.

Okay okay but seriously it wouldn't be so crazy to compare them!
I like how Sonic and Jonou have a more 'move with the flow' personality and Shadow and Kaiba are full trying to have everything under control.
Sonic and Jonou are more generous, but Jonou is more of taking things personal tho, so if someone hurts him or someone else he won't forgive. I think Sonic doesn't take things personal and even if someone hurts him he's willing to forgive. On the other hand Shadow and Seto will take things personal, they will make you pay for it and pray if they even dare to be merciful.
Kaiba can't stand Jonou, he underestimates Jonou's ability all the time but at some point is capable of see him with respect. Shadow does something similar with Sonic, I think. You cannot stand in Kaiba and Shadow's way, you gotta fight so much to make your way for them to see you and Jonou and Sonic make their way to it. Sonic has it a bit easier bc he's too cool.
I don't know it sounds so fun to compare them, specially since I think Sonadow and Joukai are really complex ships to me.
I could think of them all the time and how each of the characters are so different and practically the opposite of the other, but you still can find a way to make them work together. And when they do is so freaking awesome and satisfying.
And last and pretty useless, Sonic is blue eyes white dragon and Shadow is red eyes black dragon. You can't have bewd without thinking in rebd 💙❤️🖤 I don't make the rules here.

Do you have any headcanons about what married life would look like between Jou & Kaiba?
Hmm yes
First lets talk about the wedding, since Kaiba is pretty all about the show you can think they have the wedding of the year but not, i think it could be fun that they get married in LA with a look a like Elvis or whatever is canon in ygo
I perfectly imagine Jou say "hey look, lets get married ! Seen funny" and Kaiba agree like "why not ? Its been 5 years now "
Sure they made something with family and friends after that but you know

I think it didnt change much of when they were not married ... thank you to have listend to my tedtalk !
OK more seriously, Kaiba love to wears his alliance and if everyone can see it, he will be happy but Jou is more shy/protective about his personnal life so he will wear it as a necklace but none of them will ever take it out
In my head they are two phases
When they were traveling :
They like to get back at home together at least one week par month so they can settle down, and have quality time
When only Jou travel, Kaiba start the bad habit to over work himself so Jou start to call him at least one time a day to check on him, he want to be sure Kaiba take care of him, also he miss his voice when he is so far away
When only Kaiba travel, he didnt give much news but always come back with a gift because everything that can be eaten remind him of Jou
When they didnt travel much anymore :
They brought a house at the sea shore with a garden because they have the money, they go on walk at the beach hand in hand
I like to think that Jou like to cook for Kaiba even if he is not that good
Kaiba start gardening because the doc say its good for his stress and he like it a lot, his fav plant is rosebush because they re really résilient and can give flowers on the winter for some variety (i already spoke about this one)
I m sure Kaiba dont have a big health while being older, run all over the world, over worked, over stressed, too much sleepless night ... all of that can kill a man but Jou take good care of him even that Kaiba is the grumpiest man while sick
Of course they speak about adopting kid but theyre not on the same terms on that, so maybe never (Jou love kids but dont know anything about it, Kaiba not really like them and since he already had to take car of Mokuba when he was younger, he dont know if he want to do it again)
But they surely adopt dogs

OOOUGHGGH YES ILY FOR ASKING THIS
i will draw them with some pokemon but first let me share their trainer cards that i made:
so for joey, he has the following team for the following reasons:
- arcanine: this absolute dog boy deserves a puppo, and what better than an arcanine !!! a fierce and loyal pokemon that really just screams joey to me. also, one of joey's signature monsters is the flame swordsman, so i wanted to include a fire type (and almost included aegislash for the same reason before swapping it out for another pokemon)
- scrafty: joey's a fighter, so he needs at least one fighting type on his team. scrafty has this punkish attitude like it's looking for a scrap, but it also looks after the ones it cares about, much like our favorite blonde here
- shiny charizard: C'MON... IT'S THE RED EYES BLACK DRAGON
- dragonite: EXCELLENT choice for joey as it's a kind hearted and altruistic pokemon who has been known to save people who are drowning. JOEY LITERALLY DID THAT IN CANON DURING BATTLE CITY. he also jumped off a ship to rescue yugi's exodia cards ! also, while it's generally a gentle pokemon, dragonite can also go into a destructive rage when those it cares about are endangered.
- braviary: another top tier pick for joey as it's a fierce pokemon who will fight, even when it's injured and near death, to protect its loved ones.
- zekrom: ANOTHER RED EYES BLACK DRAGON AND IT'S THE MASCOT PAIR OF RESHIRAM (WHICH I WILL YELL ABOUT IN KAIBA'S TEAM)
so i was absolutely not going to make a team for kaiba that wasn't all dragons because let's be real, this guy's nuts for dragons
- duraludon: its gigantamax form is literally a ginormous skyscraper. IT'S KAIBA CORP.
- kingdra: it's blue, regal, and just a great pokemon - no other reason really
- tyrantrum: the name is literally a combination of tyrant (or tyrannosaurus) and tantrum - it's just our favorite grumpy ceo in a nutshell lmao.
- hydreigon: it's a three headed dragon !!! it's the ultimate dragon !!!
- salamence: okay so this pokemon is the final evolution of bagon, which is a little fella who dreams of flying but has no wings. bagon literally hurls itself off cliffs because it wants to fly that bad. once fully evolved into a salamence, this pokemon revels in its ability to fly and swoops through the air with joy. this reminds me a lot of how the kaiba siblings struggled a lot as children and how seto had this beautiful dream of making children happy. he and mokuba went through a tough upbringing, but they both looked to the blue eyes white dragon as a source of inspiration and hope. now seto's ceo of one of the most powerful companies making products that bring smiles to kids' faces all over the world. he's finally flying.
- reshiram: OKAY THIS IS LITERALLY THE BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON AND, AS I SAID EARLIER, THE PAIR TO ZEKROM so obviously i'm going to make a parallel to joukai because i have intense brainrot

so thrilled about this ask...unfortunately i cant give you a list of puppyshipping top 10 without taking like 3 months to reread every joukai fic ive ever loved, but i can give you a handful that ive enjoyed recently!!
Second Chance Christmas by Elexcia (30k)
ex-husbands joey and kaiba are forced to spend the holidays together after 3 years of co-parenting and scrupulously avoiding each other. (atticus and alexis are their kids and its the cutest thing ever!!!!)
theres a ton of adorable family shenanigans & how much joey and kaiba work together to ensure atticus and alexis have happy childhoods free from their own personal baggage, mixed with the most heartwrenching late-night conversations between joey and kaiba bc despite everything, they still love each other, but they remember the pain it brought them and don't know if they can endure that again. the emotions and uncertainties are so raw oftentimes i will remember a quote from this fic and my heart will ache all over again its so fcking good!!! its been on my mind ever since i read it!!!

"kaiba has always been his own worst enemy" -- dsod!kaiba's dimension hopping lands him in an alternate timeline and face-to-face with a version of himself he doesn't recognize.
this will always be the quintessential puppyshipping fic to me omg.. the amount of characterization covered in the brief interactions the two kaibas have is spectacular, and its so cool seeing just how different dsod!kaiba's dimension is compared to a dimension where kaiba chooses jounouchi instead. hell yeah

GOD this fic is so funny. kaiba tries so hard to have one normal, business-related work dinner with pegasus, but pegasus is more interested in having a double date between kaiba and his boyfriend joey + pegasus with his boyfriend bandit keith, and like, what else can kaiba do? for the sake of his company, he needs to play along with the most disasterous dinner date of his life if he wants pegasus to sign a damn contract already..!!!! the comedic potential for this specific set of characters makes me lose my mind & theres so many sweet moments within the fic too. i love it so much

i really enjoy how kaiba's perspective is written, with how he's most comfortable when he's logic-ing things out and surrounded by things he can easily categorize, but hes long given up on trying to categorize jounouchi, and its most evident when pushing himself into the unfamiliar territory of tactfully trying to comfort someone he cares about

i think this setup is genius omg. with kaiba acting as a protector for underrepresented and vulnerable kids, of course his own personal (and messy) feelings are going to get involved whether he likes it or not!!! plus i love fics where jou and kaiba are colleagues working towards the same goal and moments where kaiba has to trust in and respect joey's skills. and i cant lie. seeing a worldly joey who's good with kids is an absolute treat

blossoming workplace romance!! jou is kaiba's assistant (yes, everyone is surprised about this outcome too) jou & kaiba are undoubtedly attracted to each other, but theres a couple of (important!!) things about it that theyre not entirely on the same page about. the banter and familiarity jou and kaiba have with each other in this fic is sooo charmingly affectionate, and there are several exchanges that make me laugh every single time. its a refreshing and cute fic that has me hopeful knowing that no matter what communication issues they get up to, they'll eventually get their shit straight

during an argument between jou and kaiba, jou angrily states that he wishes they never met. kaiba soon finds himself in a universe where they never did, and meets a rougher, more abrasive jounouchi who never quit his gang who just may be the key to his way back. the worldbuilding in this fic is super cool and extensively fleshed out! its so fascinating to experience how different the cast of yugioh and domino city itself would have become if canon had played out differently, and the interactions between kaiba and a jounouchi who isn't his jounouchi but is just charming is so much fun
Orpheus and Eurydice by saiikavon (3.4k)
post-dsod joey dies while chasing kaiba into the afterlife, and by the title, you can probably imagine what kaiba has to do to get him back. very fun kaiba characterization/study here, with how quick and confident he is to challenge death itself and rebuff anything that gets in his way. and! a bit of spoilers but i love when jou gets to be a little mean (lovingly!!!!) to kaiba hehehe

A, E, and L for the fanfic ask game

Apologizing ahead of time for me going on too long on the first one.
A: Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?
This is really hard to answer because I've written a lot, and a lot of it is old and not good quality anymore. Even older stories I like a lot despite thinking they're bad.
My very first Mumbleshipping fic, just called "Mumbleshipping" and only existing on FFN, is one of my fics that I reread the most, not because it's good, but because the process of writing that story brought me so much happiness. I was learning a lot and used that fic as a sandbox for a lot of headcanons and scenarios and indulgent drama. It was pure fun.
My Joukai fic "Booty Call" is one that I love and reread a lot too. It's a story told out of order on purpose, and that's so fun to me, and I would love to read a story like that that I didn't write myself: snapshots of a relationship/conflict in many different stages, out of chronological order. I'm still mostly proud of that one.
And "Rock Bottom" is my favorite AU of course, though not my favorite fic. Season Zero needs to be completely rewritten, along with most of Season One and the waterfront duel in Season Two. But however bad and overdramatic the premise and the first fic is, this AU and these versions of the characters are so close to my heart. I've carried this AU with me for years, dedicated notebooks to it, charted out tournaments, created decks, WRITTEN ENTIRE DUELS IN DETAIL. And yeah, I skipped over Monster World the first time because I was intimidated, but I will go back and fix that eventually. This is my baby as much as it makes me cringe, and the day I stop loving it is the day I stop writing.
E: What character do you identify with most? Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?
Probably Ryou, especially when I had more anxiety issues since I've always headcanoned him as, but I project onto Kaiba a weird amount given how unalike we actually are. I don't know that there's a specific fic that best captures that, though in the Minorshipping fic Missing/Food of Love, I did go so far as to give him my eating disorder, which is a very early example of my Duke Devlin cooking headcanons, and the beginning of Duke becoming a comfort character for me.
L: Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?
Oof, that's a tricky one, because I write a lot of whump/angst, which is not easy for me as an empath, but I do specifically remember Desperate Measures being a rough one to write. It was inspired by a similarly dark Protectshipping/Tendershipping fic, except theirs was so dark that I actually had to stop reading it for the sake of my own mental health. The other difference is that my fic steals an NCIS episode plotline and adapts it to Yugioh characters, because I'm really weird like that.

1.favorite fic
reread a bunch of my joukai week from last year and final countdown is something i had in my head for a long, long time originally it was supposed to be the end of a longer form fic that i trashed and i'm very happy i managed to get the momentum i needed for that finale
3.favorite line/scene
this one was way too hard i had to scroll through all the things i've written, wips, and things i've never posted but i forgot my favorite thing in the world is to write pegasus so here's a bit from the secret archives
Duke had met Samantha R. Pegasus only in the safety of the huge estate just outside the city, where it seemed she had a whole wing to herself. Sometimes, at parties, she’d jump around and bark happily at the guests until a butler picked her up and quietly put her in another room. Duke tended to avoid dogs. They weren’t afraid of them, per se, but they weren’t going out of their way to make friends.
“I blocked off the afternoon to finish the coding on the Millennium project,” they said. “The deadline’s coming up–”
Pegasus held up a hand. “Don’t worry your pretty head, dear Duke. Samantha here is a remarkable companion during crunch time. You’ll barely even notice her.”
Duke sucked in a breath. There was never any arguing with Pegasus. Once he told you to do something, that was it.
“I guess,” they said, “if it’s just for the afternoon.”
“Marvelous!” He kissed his dog again and set her on the pillow. He slung a pink tote from around his shoulder and held it out to Duke, who took it reluctantly. “There’s her midday snack in there, along with her spring water–she just won’t drink from the tap–and her harness and leash for when she needs to take her afternoon walk. She usually goes around 3. Just around the block should be fine.”
“Walk?” Duke opened the bag and stared in horror. “But–”
“Her little baggies and booties are in there as well. She’ll be a dream, Duke. You’ll see.”
Their mouth dropped open, but they couldn’t come up with an appropriate protest. Pegasus laid a hand on their shoulder, and they stared up at him.
“She’s more precious to me than anything,” he said. “Except perhaps this company, or my home, or my oodles of money. But still very high on the list. There’s no one else I’d entrust her too.”
Duke swallowed. “Of course, sir.”
“Good.” He flipped his hair back and blew one more kiss to Samantha. “Be good, darling. I’ll be back in no time. Toodles!”
Duke waved a hand at his back and offered a weak, “Toodles.”
13.favorite writing song/album
i don't really have a go to album for writing i tend to make playlists that fit the mood/tone/vibe though i do think this year i relied on the crypt of the necrodancer soundtrack to drown out distractions

this one is not actually yugioh related i also have a sims tumblr and mostly for myself i started a series where several premade sims go to magic high school together. i wrote a sort of episode one for it and was surprised by an incredibly sweet comment that highlighted one of my favorite things to write, which is a dynamic. i expected minimal response and to get such an excited comment for something so silly made me really happy.
and all of this has reminded me how ugly my blog is lol so new year new me i suppose. thank you for the ask!!!

i know it’s Iconic in jk fandom to keep kaiba rich but we need AUs of them starting a business together and jounouchi getting cold feet as it expands beyond his wildest dreams and kaiba aggressively wanting to see his products on every corner
Ooooh yes, that could make for some really interesting stories in the childhood friends AU area, or other AUs of normie Kaiba attending school with Jounouchi.
So as a quick riff on one of the many possibilities, imagine Kaiba and Jou as next-door neighbors, maybe they're childhood friends who were both raised by single parents who struggled financially or maybe they know each other more recently and casually. They recently graduated from high school and are trying to make end's meet for themselves and their families. Kaiba may or may not be going to college at the same time. Jou is working part-time gigs and has been trying his luck with "get rich" schemes (he's not above shortcuts as we see in the manga, especially if debt is still a major part of the financial picture).
One day, one of them jokes about a business idea they have. The other takes it seriously. No, we should do it. We can make it work. But it's something that needs both of their talent and grit to succeed. It's hard, especially at first while Jounouchi is still working and Kaiba still goes to classes. Sometimes, it even feels impossible. But they keep going. They have each other. And they're getting even closer as they pour all their spare time and money and sweat and tears into their joint venture.
It's theirs.
I can see them nursing deepening crushes and feelings for each other. But they're both hesitant to say something, not wanting to risk losing each other as friends or business partners.
Eventually, their hard work starts to pay off. They're succeeding. They want to celebrate that with each other. Grab the other and give him a kiss. Because he appreciates him and cares about him. Because he's sent so long wanting him too. All the doubts fly out the window, for now, riding the high of their success. They did this together.
Then like you said, their business gets legs. Jou maybe starts to bulk under the pressure, get cold feet because he's not used to anything going well for too long. He's waiting for the other shoe to drop. Kaiba's throwing everything he has into it, but that means he's starting to neglect other things in life. Other people. One wonders if their partnership, business-wise and romantically, will hold up under that strain.

Jou’s been my favorite ever since I was little, when the series first started airing in the states. That hasn’t really changed over time, haha. I love Kaiba a lot more now than I did tho.
As for the other question…if he thought he could get away with it, Jou would sure try. XD I’m not sure how affective it would be, tho. XD

19. Do you enjoy creating OCs or do you prefer to stick solely to canon characters?
I only really write OCs if I really need them for the story. I will try to fill as many roles with canon characters as I can first, and then I’ll make an OC either because I have no other options, or because I’m trying to expand an aspect of canon. For the sake of a slightly less boring answer: there’s this Joukai fic I wrote like four years ago where I wanted to write in the power dynamics of the service staff in the Kaiba manor, and I ended up making a whole bunch of OCs for that, with relationship charts included. I've also written takes on more generic "y/n" MCs, to make them more of a character than an audience stand-in. Not that there's anything wrong with those. It's just a fun exercise.
20. Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics?
I try to write as much canon fic as I can think of (although I take a lot of freedoms when it comes to respecting canon) and then I move on to AUs. I don't actually have a preference for either, but canon helps me get a grasp on the characters so that they’re easier to write when you’re giving them a costume and putting them somewhere else.
21. Do you prefer writing chaptered fics or one-shots?
One-shots are soooo much easier... Really though, I just don’t have the attention style that makes me good at writing long stories in a reasonable time ahahaa;;; I'm prone to taking really long breaks, although I think part of it is that I don’t typically have anything besides my own thoughts to keep me interested and I get distracted too easily for those to be effective.
22. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?
Titles are one of the things that I pay the least attention to tbh. It's an afterthought I decide on when I'm done, usually. The closest I have to a process is considering my main conflict, my themes and/or my imagery for a second, and then start I thinking of things that are semantically in the same realm. Usually it's a noun, or noun+adjective??? If the result doesn't roll off the tongue too awkwardly, then that's it, that's the title.
