If HBO is putting Kit and Emilia together for a Comic Con, it could be yet another “feeler” for whether they want to go through with Snow. The show has not been greenlit yet and while everyone was expecting Kit to make his announcement during the LA GOT con back in December, nothing was said about it to the point that fans weren’t even allowed to ask.
Now they’re sticking these two together for another Comic Con… it could have been any duo from the show. Could have been Kit and Peter or Kit and Sophie, Kit and Lena. But no. They got Kit and Emilia. Regardless, I’m super fucking interested to know what they’re going to say during that panel. Can it be July already please?

Look how long that hair is getting! I’d say it’s halfway there to the length it needs to be for the SNOW show.

Crack theory: The Jon Snow sequel is an elaborate scheme for Kit Harington to get Longclaw from HBO.

Do you think the show Snow will be coming out soon?
I'm not sure.
On the one hand HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys said this:
Tumblr media
He didn't mention SNOW in particular, but basically said that no other show except Dunk & Egg has been greenlit.
But, on the other hand, HBO Nordic posts things like this today:

So, who knows???

Though HOTD will be an excellent TV show, I feel it is yet another account of how House Targaryen was unable to come together as an unified force.
A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing, as Master Aemon once said, makes me wonder when this saying came to be.
Following Dany's breakdown in GOT S8 Ep5 as a result of losing two dragons, her closest friends and allies, as well as being rejected by the North and Jon, this comment struck a particularly raw nerve.
I don't think the Jon Snow sequel can truly explore the concept of "a Targaryen alone in the world" because Jon doesn't feel like one. He wanted to get away from that part of himself. I can't say I blame him.
The Tale of the Targaryens is tragic.

Reporter: Hey, is there a sequel for GOT in the works?
GRRM: (knowing there is) No comment.
Reporter: Would an original cast member be involved if there was one?
GRRM: (knowing there is) No comment.
~~~Back in the day~~~
Reader: Is there something going on with Jon and Sansa? Are they going to be together to unite their paternal Houses?
GRRM: (???) No comment.
I really enjoyed the dialog between you and Dot about the Snow sequal. I feel there is a huge disconnect between what we see in the final work of the GOT program, what is said in panels and interviews, and the books. I think Kit is very careful when he talks about Jon’s relationship and killing of his aunt.I think it’s out of clear understanding of the backlash the SNOW sequal could face before even getting off the ground. I take GRRM’s advice. The show is the show and books are the books.
Hello, and thank you for the ask. I always love reading @esther-dot's takes on things to do with Game of Thrones, and the books as well. She writes things that are very insightful, and really provide so much food for thought.
Yes, it seems like there definitely has to be a disconnect between the show and the books for many of the characters. I suspect, for example, that episode three of season eight, as presented, is probably a major departure from the books, especially the big moment of Arya killing the Night King, and also because of the absence of the Direwolves other than Ghost (I think it was leaked somewhere that Martin wanted the Direwolves to figure heavily in the battle, and we know the Night King seems to be more of a show thing). Although Arya killing the Night King provided a dramatic moment, it did not seem to make sense in terms of Jon's past encounters with him, and for that reason it fell flat for many viewers.
However, I still think that it's likely that many of the major beats of the show's ending are going to be the same or very similar in the books. We do know that Benioff and Weiss were told the planned ending by Martin, so I think a lot of it is probably more or less accurate in a general sense. The twists and turns leading up to the ending, and the character development will be better in the books and will make more sense, but I think the major endpoints will be about the same: Dany burning King's Landing, Jon killing her, Bran becoming King, Jon being exiled; probably Sansa revealing Jon's identity and Sansa becoming Queen in the North. I also think that much of the Jon/Sansa arc in general is going to roughly follow a similar trajectory as the show and is going to be very important in the books. I'm looking forward to reading it.
But talking more specifically about Jon Snow, and in light of the recent panels with Kit Harington, I think what was said in those panels has only done more to confirm that Jon's show ending will roughly be the book ending. In the panel, KH said that killing Dany was the right thing to do. It was obvious that when he said it he knew that this plot point was unpopular with a decent portion of the show's viewership. At the same time, it's probable that he said it because he is heavily involved in developing the new Snow show (he is rumored to be the executive producer). Therefore, he has to set this show up accurately, necessitating for him to speak in general terms about the premises for the leading character's backstory.
I read somewhere that Kit's writing team, whoever they are, have visited GRRM to discuss the Snow show, and Martin himself blogged about it, so it's fairly obvious that it will be a premise of the new show that killing Dany is Jon's arc, and that Jon is coming to terms with it being the right thing. Somehow, this was Jon's fate all along, even given the vagaries and misreadings of the "prophecy" which is also figuring heavily in House of the Dragon. So in my mind at least, there is some hope that while Jon is haunted by his past, he won't be depicted as being hopelessly entrapped by his "love affair" with Daenerys Targaryen.
Another interesting thing that Kit said in the panels was about Jon having an "internal conflict." He said something like, "Jon doesn't know who he is, and we didn't have time to see how being a Targaryen sits with him. He's been told who he is (by others), but he's quite far away from knowing." Kit also said that he thinks Jon will remain "Jon Snow." This may imply that the show is going to explore Jon finally finding his identity in some way or another? Maybe there is even a hint here that KH (perhaps like GRRM?) was not entirely pleased with Jon's story in season eight?
Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but I do think Jon's aforementioned internal conflict is going to be a theme of this show. I think that there will be "third chapter" for him that will to some degree heal and resolve the traumas that haunt him.
GoT sequel being worked on with Kit returning, supposedly. What do you thing the chances are of Jonsa being canon in some capacity if this thing actually happens?
Hi there!
🤔🤔🤔
You want my real opinion?
Zero.
If they had wanted to do Jonsa, they would have done it.
And I'm really not sure what they want anyway. I mean they butchered Jon's character until he was unrecognisable. Is this supposed to be a resurrection?
Jon come again as a Wight?
I mean this might be an attempt to salvage some of the mess they made in season 7 and 8 but imho it is more likely that they just want to milk the cash cow - even if D&D aren't involved.
We probably get Jon moping over Dead Dany and if we're lucky he'll be over her finally at the end of the series. If Sansa even turns up it probably will be to order Jon around like the bitch (tm) we know her to be.
I was deeply disappointed by Got 7 and 8 and I'll give that sequel a pass - as much as I like Kit, I'm not going to hurt myself.
Thanks for the ask!
“I would be talking in riddles if I go any further.” Says Kit about him reprising his role.
Kit Harington also said of Sansa Stark in his HBO Jon Snow highlight that “She talks in riddles.”
Hello, I'm sure you've heard the Jon sequel news. What are your thoughts on it, and are you keeping up with the news or trying to block it out? Will you be watching?
If you don't want to answer, here's the alt ask I guess? How's your real world social life going? Befriend anyone new recently? Or and new hobbies you'd like to share?
Ciao!
I did hear about the Jon sequel, and I am tbh a bit torn, I do hope they don't butcher too much the characterisation. I am not actively blocking news of this possible sequel, I do hope we'd get to see more of the Starks or that at the very least they give the wildlings, if they are involved, a better development.
I have my own theory that both Arya and Jon are supposed to come back home, due the crypts trailer of s8, since there we had the statues of both Arya and Jon beside Sansa.
One could think it was another parallel between Sansa and Ned since Ned had his father (as his right) but also his brother and sister given statues in the crypts to show how much he loved them... but as Sansa herself said in the last episode of the series she loves Bran, and in the books she thinks often of him, so indeed she does love him, if the statues were meant to be just another parallel between Sansa and Ned, they would've put a statue of Bran as well (and not only the raven looking at them), instead the absence of a Bran statue suggests to me that both Jon and Arya will come back home to Winterfell before their stories are over. But tbh it's possible we won't see much of either Arya or Sansa as it might depend on if Sophie and Maisie have decided to be involved and to which degree.
I have decided to see this sequel, which apparently Kit wanted particularly much, as a proof of devotion of an actor to his favoured character, a love letter of sort, and I know Martin seems to be involved as well, but we know he started out being involved in Game of thrones as well and yet they butchered many storylines anyway, so there is little guarantee that that won't happen for this sequel as well.
And, in this spirit I mean to watch it. I'll be treating it exactly like this, like a love declaration for a character, though I, foolishly perhaps, hope we'll get more of bookJon. I hope we get more of his motivations as he continues his life after the finale.
I say often that I think Martin will approach the whole Jonsa matter as something unspoken, something we'll have confirmed because in the book we have the POVs, and there was a terrible lack of Jon's POV i the last seasons of the show, and this theory of mine is corroborated by how they shot the last seasons...there was this unspoken tension and apparent hidden or not so much motivator (why else would Tyrion bring up both Arya and Sansa, but push very much on the Sansa button otherwise?, why would they show us Tyrion studying Sansa and noticing she's clearly distressed at the idea of Jon and Daenerys beyond what a sensible ruler would be? why else show us Davos noticing Jon's violence being spiked and muted thanks to Sansa?). Do I think they will approach the Jonsa matter? No. I think they might hint or tease at it (because they know it's what we expect and what we'd like to see) and because it's possibly what Martin means to do in the books, or they'll go all the way with it as a way for Martin to gently let the audience in, on his book twist with a romantic-oriented Jonsa.
I try not to have too great expectations about where they are taking this...hopefully, since I love bookJon as a character even unlinked from the whole idea of Jonsa (which I like so much only because it is literally the answer to all of Jon and Sansa's wishes) I hope the show gives him, in any form, the kind of closure he would need in the books. Even if the show did take away most of what would've moved him beyond his Stark loyalty.
[I refuse to believe that Jon's inner thought of ‘what kind of brother would let his brother burn alive’ is all for nothing. There's gotta be a reason why Martin wrote that, and that reason has a name and surname: Aegon Martell Targaryen and the end he'll possibly make at Daenerys' hands; and I hate the show-runners took that away from us. Jon's whole identity is that of a defender, he is the shield of the realms of men for heaven's sake, and the first time we see him in the books in when he self-sacrifices his own wants — only to have them satisfied later as a gift for his sacrifice by the Old Gods — to defend the wants of his siblings for the direwolves pups. He is the one who convinces Ned, his uncle, and saves the pups, the pups who are the Starklings. It narrows it down to Jon defending the remaining Starklings, and Aegon whom he'll think is his brother, from his aunt. And I hope this sequel doesn't butcher his identity in that aspect]
So, yeah, I'll be putting on my clown hat (because I know my expectations will most probably be disappointed) and watch the show and hope for the best.
Now onto your alternative questions, I haven't befriended anyone recently, though I've reached out to a friend who'd been feeling poorly, though I hadn't initially noticed, and helped him a bit. Tbh I am a bit burned out, and I am very anxious for my vacation time to come in the second part of august, because I really need to unplug a bit from work and study and just relax. A change of air might do me good actually.
No new hobbies sadly, though I am thinking on taking up some sport in September and I'm still trying to decide on what.
What about you? Are you excited for the JS sequel? Will you be watching HotD? And what about your real social life? New hobbies or befriended anyone recently?
How are you enjoying your tumblr experience?
Hope you have an amazing day!
