As Americans around the world sit down to meals with friends or family today...
Let us all take a moment to remember those who can no longer say "Thank You" for anything another day, hour, minute, or second.
Those who have had their life stolen by the actions of another, reckless or calculating.
Those who have had their lives ended in a cruel moment in time by a trusted acquaintance, or dare I say, 'friend'.
Those who have been removed from the living, almost erased from history, by their roommate, and for what? Money? Monet? Love?
No. Murdered in coldest blood because he was the one thing standing between the greedy, violent eyes of Jon Arbuckle and his own most beloved dog, Odie.
Let us remember on this day that while the wicked Jon Arbuckle walks free, celebrating this day with his despicable family, Lyman, who trusted him enough to share a living space, can no longer join us around our tables, no longer feast on Turkey, no longer savor gravy, no more taste the greenest of beans in a casserole.
Join me in setting aside a seat at your table this day, one for those who cannot be with us on this day, yet left an impact on our lives for which we can give thanks.

Soo as a big Garfield fan the Garfield Movie trailer looks soo good the visual art style is amazing and as close as we’re probably ever gonna get to the shows and comics, though i have to admit that crispy rats voice is definitely off putting for me but i guess i can tolerate it.
It seems pretty close to Garfield origins from the comics with how he met jon though having his dad be there will be uh interesting, also kinda hoping to see lyman appear and not just in jons basement chained up or some weird reason of him being lost in the jungle like please he needs to be shown more.
Also damn to baby Garfield i want that as a plush hes soo cute to not be one and odie looks soo much better than the promotional images we got, like who ever chose to show him like that did him soo dirty.

Reading All of Garfield (Up Until This Point) The 1979 Post
I've already made the first post and so I must continue to march on, even though I do not think that I thought this through before I started this Journey. There are a LOT of Garfield comics. I hope to see more of Lyman this year. Check Out The Garfrield Archives To Read Yourself!
Oh boy, now I have had to look up two different things just for understanding a Garfield comic. I did NOT know that Gucci was this old. I'm going to be honest when I say I thought that Gucci was a 2010s invention. Turns out it is over 100 years old and I am a fool that does not pay enough attention to a fashion brand. Side note that everyone already probably knows, but Gucci does not make a scratching post, but if they did it would be roughly 1,000 dollars. Wtf, Jon.
YOU PUT HIM IN THE SWEATER, JON!! I love that Jon's mother canonically made Garfield a sweater. I'm assuming that Jon is an only child and she is throwing her all into her only grandkid. Also, good job, Lyman! You made it one more year!
Garfield and me think alike. When I was a small child I also would have eaten a mailman if I had caught them.
Well, he did say take a bite to be fair.
I'm sorry, does he eat Lyman and absorb his powers later on?
I imagine that this is what I looked like to my mother when she asked why the hammer was missing.
LYMAN SPOTTED!! I was getting worried a moment there!! When will this man be eaten? When will his essence become part of Jon?
How did the cat convince Lyman to go along with this joke? Or did he come up with it independently?
OHOHO, THEY BROUGHT IT BACK FOR 1979?! HELL YEAH, BABY!
I have to assume that Garfield took this as a threat. Sidenote I do love this poem actually, Jon should take that up as a side hobby!
While we appreciate Garfield's talent right here, I'm not sure that Jon is buying that he has a Garfield shaped pot. Btw a lot of garfield pot planters do exist, so really perhaps he was too early to get away with this.
I already thought this comic was funny, but getting the added context of where "I have a bridge to sell you" comes from is so good. I really encourage everyone to please check out the story.
I am exhausted, my brain is trying to eat away at my conciousness, and yet this comic has brought a smile to my face. Do the charms of Garfield ever have an end?
YES, THAT IS EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE!! I love that you know this means Jon threw her out, not Garfield.
This was like a jumpscare in a horror movie. But particularly the one that occurs when something innoculous is going on; friends are talking on a bed, not even about the plot and in the corner of screen you can see a clawed hand slowly reaching up from the side of the bed. The music has not changed, the tone of the conversation has not changed, but the implications are there. And you are helpless to do anything to change the inevitable.
My moirail has actually answered this one for me before! Because it came up about a violin strung with catgut. Turns out it is made from the walls of intestines of animal, but mostly sheep and cattle! No kitties were harmed for this racket! Also, Lyman, dude, that is such a weird question to ask, my guess is that he knows nothing about tennis and he panicked.
ANOTHER CLASSIC FROM GARFIELD AND FRIENDS! I may be tired, but not too tired to laugh so audibly that I have frightened my own cats.
Curse Tumblr's 30 image limit, I'm starting to think that I'm going to have to make a part 2 to this post. Also, there is a similiar series of strips in the cartoon where Nermal comes up to Garfield and a bunch of people arrive to save him. But they leave Garfield up there. Jon eventually comes and gets him with a ladder and at first it is cute until Jon admits that he's been watching Garfield stuck in the tree all evening. Garfield appropriately takes out the ladder and leaves Jon in the tree for the night.
Liz is a fantastic doctor just for the shit she has to put up with. Also, it has been a month since we have last seen Lyman, we usually seen him at least once a month. Where is my special boy?
OH THANK GOD, THERE HE IS! OUR SPECIAL BOY IS STILL ALIVE AND WELL, JUST WENT I HAD GIVEN UP HOPE! IT WAS AUGUST THAT PULLED THROUGH FOR US!
W-wet nursing???? Garfield, do you know what that word means? Because either you do and I am horrified, or you don't and I am worried.
Unfortunately Jon does not meet the quality that Liz is looking for: silent.
It had been two months, I was beginning to lose hope. Lyman is finally seen again at the end of October, but he doesn't have a speaking line. Fortunately he does have his own chair at least? (P.S. They thankfully made up for this tragedy by featuring him in a few more comics after this one! Via La Lyman!!)
You know that Garfield saw Odie playing on the piano and decided that he couldn't be a one dog band.
Listen, Jon, totally valid, but also consider this: do you really want the chicken back now? It has cat spit all over it, it belongs to the cat,,,,
Now this is an excellent way to round out the year! We have all the successful elements, Garfield inflicting bodily harm, Jon showing off a perfect talent, and Lyman is here!!

OK SO THE TRAILER FOR THE NEW GARF MOVIE CAME OUT (and of course youtube didnt tell me about it until now) AND!!! ITS SO CUTE!!!!!! so here's me yelling and screaming and fanboying about how much i love how this movie looks so far :D
ok first off, BABY GARF!!! HE IS A TINY BALL!!! LITTOL GUY!!!! :D
he's so miniscule! so microscopic! an atom! he's tiny!!! but he's just living in a box who would abandon such a little guy :( (his dad probably. yeah he's in this movie and i hope Garfield's mum is also in here because she appeared in a classic Garfield special and she's so lovely)
after this scene we see our first look at Jon (my beloved) eating alone at an Italian restaurant, and like, this means so much to me. look at these shots:
i'm not sure if they're in order or not but like. look at the way he watches the family! he has a look of bittersweet love and sadness in his eyes and i'm just,,, 🥺 he just wants to be a dad.... i love how Jon has always kinda been portrayed as a father figure to his pets, in classic shows and specials he calls Garf and Odie his boys, in Garfield Gets Real he calls them his kids and now here, he wants to be a father so bad i'm going to burst into tears i love this man
the garf appears!! the littol baby has arrived!! the tiny little miniscule microscopic molecule atom of a cat has approached the window!!!
the way Jon puts his finger to the window, the way he cuddles baby Garf with so much tender loving care and adoration..... he's so sweet i love him!! how can people hate this man?? look at him!!! look this sweet and loving father figure in the eyes and tell him you hate him. you cannot. he's too pure for this world
also i haven't mentioned this yet, but it's commonly accepted in the Garfield fandom that Garfield was born in a pizza shop and then was transferred to a pet shop where Jon then adopted Garfield in 1978, but to be honest, i didn't really like the pet shop part of that backstory. the pizza place part was great but i dunno, Jon just going to a pet shop and buying Garfield isn't as heartfelt to me. this backstory though? i LOVE. two lonely creatures meeting each other and forming a family is so adorable and sweet, especially for modern Garfield. i feel like we need less cynicism in modern Garfield and more stuff like this i love it so much,,, also this movie looks fucking beautiful holy shit
i really like this part because like, Garfield didn't develop his bizarrely huge diet over time. dude was BORN with it. and like look at that look on Jon's face, he looks like he hasn't even finished processing what just happened yet and is just staring into the mist wondering what and how and why that happened. beautiful. also that second image is really funny to me it should have a silly ominous text post caption on it
also this shot, i didn't notice it the first time but holy shit the look of absolute HORROR on Jon's face!! he is witnessing the TRUE extent of Garfield's powers and he is NOT ready for it man i love this shot so much
okok so what i REALLY LOVE about this specific shot is that it reminds me of a classic Garfield strip where Jon is attempting to give Garfield a bath!! here's the strip it reminds me of:
Jon doesn't actually wear anything but like. the fact that he has to go through so much preparation to give Garfield a bath so he doesn't claw him up in the movie, it just has to be a reference to this strip it's gotta be man i'm betting money on it. also hiii Lyman :)
this scene is so fucking pretty!!! look at the warm colours! it feels so homely and it's exactly how i feel reading my dad's old Garfield comic books! all the warm bright colours and gentle lighting, all the freshly baked lasagna that i really wanna eat because it's so delicious looking.... how can people say that Jon doesn't feed Garfield when he is RIGHT THERE grating extra cheese for him because he knows Garfield likes extra everything in his lasagna. such a sweet adorable man :') i'd like to see ihatejonarbuckle make a good rebuttal to THIS
there's some other neat little references in this movie too, like the Stuck On You plushies made by Dakin being referenced with Garfield smacking into a car after his dad throws him out of a train,
and a reference to the giant Garfield balloon at a Macy's Thanksgiving parade that makes me think that 'Garfield' the comic is canon in this movie, it's created by Jon (cause y'know he's supposed to be a cartoonist) and it's based off his own stories with Garfield and it is now an international phenomenon like in our world. neat!
the question is though, does Garfield know he's a worldwide sensation or does he have absolutely no idea? it'd be funny if it was the latter option honestly cause he'd be extremely confused yet flattered as to why there's a random giant balloon dedicated to him in the city
so the big dude on the left is Garfield's dad, but also, this reminds me of this other Garfield comic where Garfield meets his former self from 1978 and they proceed to eat all the food in the fridge together. thought that was cool :D
(it'd be really funny if this was Garfield's dad and he was messing with Garfield by telling him they are one in the same haha)
oh yeah and here's the two of them eating everything in Jon's fridge from the movie:
see what i mean? there's a similarity there and i think it's really funny. also Jon's probably thinking "wtf there's two of them now???" like Garfield got so fat that he just split into two cats or something lol
so! does it look like a good movie? abso-fucking-lutely yes!!! i am SO excited to go see this one! i think this is the best Garfield media we've gotten in YEARS! i love the colours and the shots, i love the slight modern redesign they gave Jon, Odie looks a little weird but he's still super fun and adorable, and while i do find it odd that the Garfield balloon looks more like Garfield than he does, i do like how expressive the characters' eyes are and it's miles better than the previous 3D Garfs we got! i really wanna see this movie and boy am i going to be RAVING about it for WEEKS this blog will be FILLED with Garfield for the next few weeks when this goes digital!! super jazzed to see it!!

Some nights I sit in front of the fire,
my drink in one hand, his picture in the other. I stare longingly at his handsome face, stunning mustache.
I glance up at the seat across from me, on the other side of the fire. I can almost, for the most fleeting of seconds, see him still sitting there, smiling that charming smile of his.
Lyman, my old flame.
A tear comes to my eye.
Taken far, far too soon by his trusted roommate, the abomination of twisted flesh and bone known to the world at large as the charming, lovable goof Jon Arbuckle.
Known to me (and those who follow) for the true monster he is.
The monster who would be Lyman’s undoing, the tormentor of his much loved, good natured dog, Odie, the master (or perhaps minion?) of the beast known as “Garfield”.
And still this abomination walks our streets, stalks our pets, our husbands and wives and children. Roaming free as the day he was wrought from the screaming void from which he must surely have come.
Unfettered by the laws of our land, heeding no minds but his own uncaring whims.
This beast must be brought to heel, and one day I pray that he is.
That Lyman may be avenged, that perhaps one day Odie may be freed of his torments, brought once more into loving arms, preferably before he returns to the great squeaky toy in the sky.
But alas, as it stands I should probably be calling the fire department. I shouldn’t have had a few drinks before starting the fire, or I might have remembered sooner that I don’t have a fireplace.
