jo koy was fucking awful at the golden globes.
Barbie was a movie that celebrated girlhood and womanhood while also managing to acknowledge the difficulties of being a woman. the rant by America Ferrera’s character says it best - to be a woman is to be everything all at once and never be good enough. and jo koy saw this movie and decided “nah fuck this shit” and declared it a movie based on a “plastic doll with big boobs!” after emphasising the importance of Oppenheimer? that completely undermines the statement that Barbie put out there, the relatability it found with its female audience and the hard work of everyone involved. it ignores all of that, and it is disgusting to see this blatant misogyny, especially towards a movie that tackles that very topic.
the Taylor Swift joke was unnecessary. you cannot deny that Taylor Swift is an incredibly influential woman, and it is so annoying seeing her still being dragged down for a low joke. all she did was attend the awards ceremony and her love life was dragged up - not to coo or celebrate - but to laugh at. to make fun of her. it’s been a repeating theme of her career - being asked about love when in fact she is, on her own, more influential than any of the men she’s dated. but it’s never about her, it’s always about them, because men can’t comprehend that women can and will exist without them. Taylor Swift deserves better, she had the right to be at this awards ceremony without being dragged into this misogynistic shit.
so fuck you, jo koy. you never deserved such a high-profile platform and should never have one again.

whoever was sleeping on the job approving that golden globes script was asking for trouble. it was the year of barbie and an insanely successful film concert and you had your host insulting the whole thing by reducing it to big boobies and male nfl butthurt? that was the best you had? REALLY?!

there’s a lot of controversy going on with the host of the golden globes and i think this could have all been avoided if we let the muppets host every award show ever

I don't want to defend Jo Koy at all (never liked his brand of comedy), but I'm so frustrated over how White women were so quick to recognize Jo Koy's brand of humour as misogynistic when the target was them while they had made Will Smith out to be a violent Black man for defending his wife because Chris Rock was targeting a Black disabled woman.

I don't know if it was my type of humor or maybe the cultural differences, but the presenter in the Golden Globes tonight was so unfunny. His monologue was boring and basically just pointing out who was in the room.
Reducing the impact Barbie had this year, to the physical attributes of a plastic doll. For real??
The joke about scientifics getting laid, like, that could had been funny in the 80s, now is just stupid.
Not to mention the attempt to joke about who Taylor Swift was dating, so original!!!

The golden globes host was a mess every celebrity in there looked so uncomfortable
But people saying Taylor swift was “overreacting” which she was she just took a sip of her drink and moved on but when Ryan Gosling didn’t make a face during the Barbie joke people are praising him for doing the bare minimum like what??? (No hate to Ryan whatsoever)
Also both jokes were incredibly bad it was Taylor swift biggest year breaking records with her tour and then movie being nominated but the host just went lets mention the NFL and Barbie being the most successful box office movie last year which was directed by women but let’s just ignore those achievements and let’s make and sexist jokes about it
Like wtf disappointed but not surprised

See what is most fantastic about Barbie is that its not about feminism. It seems like it is, but that's not what its About.
Barbie is about the experience of personhood. It's about existing as a person, living- truly living. It's about answering the question, "why am I here?" The Barbie Dolls describe these concepts much in the way that dolls are commonly used in cinema- to represent us, and what it means to BE us.
The difference being that these existential questions have always been asked from men's perspective. Men are asked why they exist- women are told. Through the lens of feminism, Barbie points this out and explores it. It does more, even- it centers the question entirely around a woman's perspective, outright shunning the man's ON PURPOSE.
You can't talk about a woman's experience without using feminism, as those things are intertwined tightly. It's necessary to include, and important to framing the greater theme of existence in the narrative. This is why the commentary directly addressing Feminism is so "surface level"- because you only need to understand that surface to understand what Barbie is trying to say.
And Barbie's answer to that question is, quite frankly, beautiful. That we- women and other human beings- exist to experience. We exist to feel, bad and good, and that gives us the freedom to do whatever we want. Its a gentle, honest "I don't know why we exist, but isn't it beautiful anyways?"

Hot take but I never find Jo Koy funny. He always mocks our Filipino culture like how a typical Filipino speaks. I don't care if he's half-Filipino his jokes are never funny.

saw the golden globes !!!! :P
can we all agree to just..... NOT let Jo Koy back onto any kind of stage after the kinds of jokes he made about the movies and the people there and stuff?? Honestly, his jokes were distasteful and disgusting and lets all be fr here nobody knew he even existed before this and his first impression on people who havent seen him before the golden globes... not good. at ALL. to sane people at least.
Like, his "joke" about oppenheimer being so good and based off of something so big and historical and then going to say barbie is a movie of a doll with 'big boobs'? HELLO???? literally thats the one reason the movie was made, to touch on the topic of men being misogynistic and objectifying women and stuff of that kind.
And his slightly kinda rude joke about Taylor Swift? I mean I personally am not a swiftie but Tay's face after he said the joke... if someone dissed me like that I would be like that too girlie. He doesnt even make good jokes at all like HELLO ??? seventh grade comebacks and insults, yet still SO INFURIATING and SO disgusting.
AND THEN HE HAS THE NERVE TO SAY THAT HE MADE ONLY SOME OF THESE JOKES AND OTHER PEOPLE MADE THE REST OF THEM????? BOY QUIT FUCKEN LYING NO WAY SOMEONE MADE A JOKE THAT GROSS FOR THE LITERAL GOLDEN GLOBES BRO GET TF OUT OF HERE !!!!
someone should create a petition to never let Jo Koy step foot on another stage ever again because I would sign that shit in a HEARTBEAT.
I am rightfully pissed, am I not?

"I didn't write the jokes" wah wah you delivered them, you agreed to deliver them, you rehearsed them, and you had the power to say no to all of that but you're only showing remorse now bc girls and women who were excited for the past year of actually good media being celebrated in an awards show was ruined by your bad performance and now that's all you'll ever be known for

Cheap jokes easily reveal your incompetence
"Sexual jokes from a man about women were inappropriate."
"Sexual jokes from a woman about men were iconic."
No. Both were disgusting, unnecessary, childish and we should stop making sex and cheap jokes at large social events.
Shouldn't be these shows high class events? Not a freaking high school house parties. A good and funny monologue can be created without cheap jokes. And it should be! This just shows how mature the presenter or writer is. Jo, you weren't hilarious. You were just a disappointment for your age. Then Chelsea. I mean, it all started out funny, but were these sexual jokes necessary? Within a second, she fell to her ex's level.
Pedro was finally nominated after so many years of hard work. And what did he get? Just a sex joke about his (once again) daddy whatever persona.
Barry Keoghan showed his incredible acting range and was finally recognized by a larger audience. And what did he get? Just a sex joke about his penis. Twice.
The Barbie movie was the movement of 2023. It healed so many childhood traumas from the past and also had the right influence on the younger generation. And what did it get? Another "plastic big boobies" sex joke.
Taylor and the camera one? Oh, dear...
And there are so many more. We listen to this every single year.
Listen, I'm not a conservative or a prudish person. I love a good humor, especially bitter and sarcastic one. Even the inappropriate is my fave. Yes, I use it, but only at home or with my friends. Not at grand and noble events where you should be presenting talents, not the horny scale of the population. Thank you.
Sorry, if I wrote something incorrectly. English is not my first language and I am at the rage right now, so…
