howdy! erin here🤠 with na chorong. i know i know, i have a plethora of ims to respond to, sorry about that! i’m putting jinri on a brief hold as i’m tweaking some stuff, but have my muse in the meantime. more about chorong below the cut. yk the usual: feel free to dm me @ myjinri for plots/like this post for me to come to you. discord is available upon request! (patience will be needed with me </3 i should still be out at the time of acceptance, but will get back to everything when i get home )
i’m going to keep the background brief until i fully type out her backstory bc i really don’t wanna have to read whatever i write again to make edits
it always seemed as if na chorong had it easy in life. an extremely supportive family backing her dreams, along with getting scouted to a big agency and meeting quick success with her tv and film debut. it all seemed like the easiest path was handed to her
the fact that she came from a struggling family and faced the numerous rejections before she struck gold with adagio often forgotten. or the unexplained break she took in acting
growing up, she always loved performing skits in front of her family. she was often the center of attention with whatever production she had ready. this led to her joining drama clubs and participating in local plays put on around her.
scouted by adagio at a school play. auditioned and got in, trained for a while before she made a public appearance in a music video. her official television debut was a year after that, and her film debut was the following year after the tv debut.
she was rising in popularity but a sudden personal issue arose! and she couldn’t accept any scripts as she couldn’t fully commit to the long scheduling that came with filming anything.
still did work during that time, usually in things that required less time, such as appearing in magazines, walking the runway, or even just making an appearance at a fashion show.
finally made her return to acting and it was almost like she never left. quickly got back into the swing of things and started steadily building up her popularity again. now including more modeling gigs in her schedule, but acting was something she prioritized over anything else.
2021-2022 was the busiest timeframe in her life, filming projects back to back. thinks she’s done enough to not have to film for another two years at least. hasn’t filmed anything or picked up a new script since the glory because she needed a break badly.
so here she is now, in 2023 enjoying as much of her break as she can because who knows when the company will come knocking at her door with another project for her to look at.
 currently
loves her career but the recent string of projects she starred in back to back left her begging adagio for a hiatus. was not granted, but was met in the middle with another “unofficial hiatus” from acting. ( l o l let’s see if this lasts long )
focused on her brand deals and promoting them in the meantime. really? doesn’t consider herself to be an actual? model? feels more like a fraud if you ask her, but yes she has walked in shows and appeared in magazines. most of those opportunities came because of her status as an actress, anyway.
searching for a new avenue to explore. she needs something different to spice her life up! something to give her a real challenge since she’s been doing this stuff for years.
deep down she wishes one of her projects would flop so the projects can shift to someone else, but her pride doesn’t let her half-ass anything. she’s always all-in.
personality
dont let the public image fool u, chorong is not as uptight and “serious” as she makes herself appear. typically the mood maker on set / seen goofing around with costars. the act is just to suit the adagio rep.
she still has a level of professionalism to her though. formalities until she considers you close enough to be a friend.
think she’s pretty approachable?? but may be a little bit intimidating  bc of her seniority? dont worry she doesn’t bite.
always up for new experiences and open to trying out new things. can be spontaneous and act on impulses.
ambitious, that’s how she got to this point in her career. wants to do everything to the best of her ability.
a little irritable, but has mastered controlling that feeling. for the most part. can be a bit snarky and argumentative once irritated though.
quick plot ideas since my plots page likely isn’t finished lmfao
are you looking to take acting more seriously / just wants some advice? well it’s your lucky day, chorong, a well known name in the industry, is coincidentally right there.
industry friends <3 long spanning career, i envision she may have more friends around her age/older but she’d also extend herself out to younger people as well, it just might be a little harder for her to do so?
random friends bc she loves meeting new people. good luck on trying to get close to her though.
close knit circle of friends that’s not really publicized.
someone who dislikes chorong for whatever reason. maybe they think her quick rise to success or the way she manages to skirt her way out of any rumors / potential scandals suspicious.
or vice versa chorong dislike your muse for whatever reason. maybe it’s a bad first impression or the reputation that follows them?
++ potentially having chorong star in ur music video ( girlie hasn’t done that in over 10 years, but she found her 1 experience fun and wouldn’t be opposed to doing it again )
past relationships / flings. she’s a very passionate and intense partner, and busy schedules often do not bode well for her. we can come up for numerous reasons for a separation.
her current flavor of the week. or maybe the month? really, any potential current / more recent love interests. longevity varies depending on how she feels about the other.

third time's a charm, am i right? hi again! i'm erin ( or e ) and here is ahn jinri 3.0 (honestly a 2.5). a few little tweaks but overall still the same. as you will soon see for yourself, i'm actually completing a biography and plots page this time around for easier future plotting lmfao. leave a like if you're interested in plotting with jinri, and i'll pop into your ims throughout the night. i also use discord so if you prefer that, just let me know and i'll be more than happy to add you.
1996-2008
february 15 1996. jinri really doesn't have that complex of a backstory. her life was as normal as it could get. jinri was born as the only child to a set of workaholic parents. while they were very present in her earlier years, she doesn't remember many fond memories including the both of them. she quietly kept to herself and placed her focus in doing well in school. along with any extracurriculars she may have been partaking in at the time.she was basically raised under the care of her grandmother, therefore was heavily influenced by her.
in fact, her love for dancing came from her grandmother, who was a dancer in the past. she took up dancing lessons as a hobby and as a way to connect more with her grandmother. she ends up loving it even more than she expected, and tries out many different genres until she finds the one she likes the most. favored the hiphop genre in dancing, which was up until she became a trainee.
offered to audition, she nearly didn't go because of the implications of leaving her familyand being surrounded by strangers. at the encouragement of her grandmother, she auditioned, passed, and soon signed with everlast.
2008-2014
having been used to the toxic environment she was in with dancing, jinri had assume that this would be no different. accustomed to success in her dance pursuits, jinri was determined to remain at the top, even if it meant resorting to tactics that were less than admirable. she isolated herself, believing that success was an individual achievement. she had gained an infamous reputation amongst trainees due to her cold demeanor at a young age.
by the time the news of a girl group debuting within the company was spreading, jinri thought that she was more than ready to make her debut. Having trained for over five years, the thought of her debut being close brought a glimmer of hope to jinri. however, she soon discovered that the ability to work with others was considered for groups. she wasn’t even considered for the lineup at all because of her lack of ability to connect with the other trainees and just the plain fact that she didn't fit the image in mind for the group.
it was a major blow to her ego and she started to lose hope, fearing that her chance might never come. if she wasn’t good enough after four years, then would she ever be? realizing that her behavior had hindered her chances of debuting in angelic, she was quick to right her wrongs. she had apologized to those she had wronged and started slowly changing for the better, even helping others, rebuilding her reputation amongst trainees. she slowly began to embrace her true self once more, and not the facade she had made to protect herself all of those years ago.
however, her confidence in her chances of debuting did no come back. jinri began considering a different plan to fall back on just in case she had ruined her chances for good. while it would’ve been easier for her to resort to being a choreographer or even just a dancer for the company, she wanted something new to explore. she turned to writing lyrics and jumped into the world of music production and directly her energy towards it.
taking her newfound interest seriously, what started as rough drafts consisting of a few lines slowly evolved into fully fleshed-out songs. however, Jinri was highly critical of her own creations, doubting her abilities and whether her work would ever be good enough by the company for an official release. that didn’t stop her, in fact, it fueled her even more. she continued to write various songs and learn from others around her.
her talents in this field quickly became evident as she was having songs picked up for other artists by the next year, proving to herself that she's an asset outside of dancing.
2015-2020
she secured a spot in the debut lineup of the girl group mirrorworld, and even gets a number of her songs picked for the debut album.
she dove headfirst into refining her skills and creating more music, driven by her desire to continually improve and make an impact with her work.
just her luck that mirrorworld would undergo a hiatus following their debut. it irritated her to see how much traction they were losing with each passing month, and she was just itching to take control of the situation and just make music that satisfied both parties.
that is not exactly what happened as it took months until mirrorworld's comeback was settled, but jinri had been involved with writing five of the songs on that album.
released a portal song a few months after, but went unpromoted and most fans do not know about it. it's one of those releases that you stumble across in your recommended after binging a bunch of mirrorworld releases.
opened a youtube channel the following year, also had her solo debut. her solo debut is something she doesn't like to think back on due to the mass amount of hate she received for it. she does acknowledge how popular the song was/is. 24 hours has not been performed by her since 2017 when it was released and the fans ask for its return.
a lot of rumors about her started circulating around this era, and some were straight up defamation of character. a little sensitive with all of the backlash and false accusations she was getting, she requested the company to take action, which didn't really happen because the rumors weren't big enough to actually hurt the company, but it did tarnish her reputation while it was circulating because of the company's inaction. this continued to be a common cycle throughout the years, making jinri's dissatisfaction with everlast slowly grow with each incident.
released another single the following year, which got her her first music show win as a soloist, along with a few photoshoots for magazines, and the public is a little wary of how many opportunities she's getting as a solo artist. imagine the anger when she released a full length album the year after that.
2019 was a interesting year for her. released her solo album which she didn't have much involvement in. learning choreography and recording four music videos for four different songs was draining. also wrote and produced for a group that she was not in for the first time in years. true north was like a breath of fresh air for her, sparking her interest again. even released a japanese single that is also often forgotten about.
2020 was a year. shooting for two separate calvin klein campaigns opened the door once again for criticism for being too sexual. worked with true noth twice this year, and did her big one with mirrorworld's album. was literally putting her all into that album as a last hurrah because she was going to ask the company for a break and contemplate fully leaving the company. surprise surprise, she goes into a meeting and finds out they want her to have another comeback early next year so she wouldn't be getting that break just yet.
2021-2023
jinri releases her second album near the beginning of 2021, and this was a work that she had her hands all over creatively. instead of feeling happy with its release and the amount of involvement she had, she was just tired. mirrorworld had released and promoted a full length album 2 months prior that she had always worked on, so she really had no chance to rest.
the following months just drained her more, filming an artist of the month video for studio choom and doing a shoot and interview for dazed korea. her final straw was the album repackage that she also had to promote. jinri felt as if she was working herself to the bone again.
she had a number of disagreements with management about numerous things over the years. the recent topics including decreasing her number of activities. the relationship between jinri and everlast was soured by late july which is when she came to the decision she was going to file for a contract termination.
heavily contemplating whether or not to continue being an idol during the year the lawsuit is going on. she had been losing herself and her passion for it over the last two to three years, and this was an opportunity to step away from the limelight.
after the contract lawsuit was announced, jinri was not heard or seen publicly for six months. during this time she was seeing if she truly wanted to step away from the limelight and just utilizing the break she had.
plays around with music a little bit, focuses more on dancing. eventually she started posting dance covers (and a selfmade song) on her youtube again, but still hadn't spoken out publicly. which she wouldn't do until the contract signing with secret garden was announced.
honestly, jinri's just letting each day pass by. currently in one of those phases in life in which she just takes a backseat with writing/producing, focusing on other things instead. as of right now, it looks like she's easing up on the control she felt like she needed to have over the group's discography.
she's more comfortable with just making sure it sounds like one of their songs? this is leaving a lot of room for her to actually not like a mw release at all. (spoiler: she kinda doesn't like omg and ditto despite being a producer on those songs)
PUBLIC IMAGE;
from a public image standpoint, you either love her or you hate her. most love her for her contributions in myworld but cannot stand the sight of her if she's missing the other four members. she's a little controversial for an idol, and it's obvious with the way the public opinion is always divided in anything she does. the #jinrihatetrain is always up and running, and at this point in her career, it has become part of her identity.
well known for her songwriting and producing. in fact, it is one of the very few areas that jinri receives a lot of praise for. although, it seems that she's extremely hard to work with at first glance, as she tends to stick to creating songs for either herself, her group, and her group members. working with true north came as a surprise to many, as they were the first group she wrote for since her debut. her continuous working relationship with the group over several comebacks made her signing with secret garden not a big surprise to fans.
and no matter what she may be criticized for, she cannot called a talentless idol. with performing and dancing being two of her strongest aspects, a few viral moments have sparked from dance covers uploaded to her youtube channel in the past couple of years. jinri always makes sure to show everyone that she deserves her spot on the stage, and shows no signs of slowing down nearly eight years in.
fans would call her an icon (a little much in jinri's eyes), but she just views herself as an ordinary person that has a lot of ideas and uses music as one of many outlets. she's definitely looking to branch herself into different avenues career wise because she simply just does not want to be confined into one little box as an artist.
what you may see in the public eye is an extremely watered down version of her. intended to seem very boring at first glance because that's what keeps the people away! somehow (through talent and genuinely being somewhat likeable and funny) still managed to build a small but strong personal fanbase for herself. may also be due to the fact that she's also very good at making others think that they know more about her than they really do.
she's extremely protective over her personal life because frankly, nobody is entitled to it. it's to the point where she barely has any childhood photos circulating online, and the only predebut photos are from the three-four years leading up to her debut. to give another example, it is known she is very close to her grandmother, but that is it. she has done her best to protect her family from the public eye.
PRIVATE IMAGE;
this time around, jinri's wayyy more friendly and approachable. which isn't much because she's still a hermit at heart. she's willing to talk to people (most of the time others will have to approach her first), and can carry on with small talk like no other if the conversation is not going anywhere interesting. she has the tendency to stick to what's familiar to her because that's is what's predictable and comfortable.
she still accidentally ghosts and leaves people on delivered/read for days at a time. DND warrior, type of person you have to press notify anyway to get her to read it. forbid its a phone call, because if it isn't one of her emergency contacts, she's not picking up. she may not respond quickly but she will get to it eventually! jinri is unfortunately just one of those people you have to catch in person.
takes work way too seriously. still a workaholic unfortunately. jokes that she gets it from her parents but she loathes the fact that she spends so much extra time working seemingly cant step away from whatever she's doing. perfectionist when it comes to music, sometimes spent nights in the studio working on songs, and it's safe to assume it's worse with the amount of songs she's working on for a project. the mirror festival and perfect world im looking at you
[ alcoholism trigger warning ] while she was always liked drinking, that along with other life events had led to it developing into a drinking problem. very few amount of people would pick up on this because she's often drinking in private, which also works best to prevent any more rumors about her character from leaking. gets a little concerning in periods of inactivity, so her little web show was a quick solution that lets her indulge in this vice.
"do not tell me about ur problems if u do not want to hear my thoughts, or at least start ur monologue with the fact u do not want feedback" type of person. she has the desire for everything to be sorted out and on it's way to being fixed, so while she is willing to lend an ear, she cannot handle her own problems + the group + whatever additional problems other may have esp if its unresolved. really doesn't help she can be a little opinionated with little to no filter sometimes
very open and honest. honesty is something that's also shown publicly, as she has been open about her experiences with mental health for a few years now. has been called a comfort person by fans (which confuses her but makes sense). she's kind of like a caring older sister if you get to know her. can get on your nerves occasionally, but no matter what, you know she has your back.
soon will find out she has some flaws that would demote her likeability status, but she has been working on herself and has made humongous progress. still has her moments where the ugliness slips through the cracks, esp if she hasn't been in the best mood, but has learned self-restraint and how to control her tongue from saying the first thing that comes to mind.
basic plots
creative friends, aka people she likely responds to the quickest. whether it's in music, film, fashion, or any other form, jinri always likes to pick the brains of other people and their creative processes. and if a good friendship comes out of that? just a perk of things.
close friends. whether it was her who reached out first or the other, they clicked well enough for jinri to view them as an important figure in her life.
casual friends. seen each other's faces frequently enough to recognize each other and may have had a few conversations. not enough for jinri to truly consider the other a close friend, but enough for her to consider tacking on the title of friend.
people who guested on her little show? she has a web drinking show funnily enough, and it's more on the casual side.
the inspiration behind her songs, good or bad.
relationships, past or future. past relationships were lasted a while or were flings. currently, she's supposedly in a "healing" phase but who knows what she's actually healing from.
people she's a fan of, i'd likely mention this in plotting if stuff ur muse does something up her alley.
those a fan of her, although she might be a little skeptical if u tell her that because who actually listens to her music?
dancers. she loves dancing even if that's overshadowed by her producing / songwriting. maybe those she'd hit up to dance with or even film a cover with???

so long and goodnight.
featuring @deliacate & weineries.
"hey, i'll be careful not to hit your cat with my car." he remarked at the tremor brought on by the speed bump, hoping it wasn't a living thing that he just passed despite knowing the road pretty well. "no promises though." he joked, painting a kooky smile on his face.
he missed messing around with chaeseol in more ways than one. this is nice, he thought to himself. helping her was a good excuse to see her again. even if the words 'i missed you' or 'let's get back together' wasn't uttered, this was better than the distance they inevitably had before.
hours and hours of driving around to no avail and the sun has set; the dusk had swallowed the empty streets.
later that day he was supposed to meet with jinri. the two hadn't been able to see each other for a good while, what with their distance and the fact that they had missed each other literally. hyuk came back to seoul from the middle east just as soon jinri flew off to milan. it felt like the universe playing tricks on them, he pointed out to her during an exchange through text.
zoning out of the awkward silence that suffused the atmosphere during the car ride, hyuk started to think of ways to tell jinri he might not be able to hang out. what would he say anyway? something came up. my ex, you know the one we were just talking about, hit me up. what's more, it was completely out of nowhere.
when he said they checked up on each other every now and then, he'd meant once in six months. maybe even once a year. who even knows anymore? it was as infrequent as hyuk staying in one place without any errands to run for the kingpin.
it felt like a strange twist of fate once again.
uneasy in his seat, hyuk couldn't find a good opportunity to pull out his phone but what makes it worse was the spluttering that was surfacing subtly, softly.
"my cat is missing!" she blurted out. hyuk, overcame with panic from the mewling next to him, abruptly pulled up to the curb. it didn't stop the querulous crying. if anything, it made it even worse.
"i know, i know..." was all he could say, which might have been the least comforting thing to say in response. it was cumbersome how wary he was of upsetting her even more. he wasn't sure where to put his hands or what to do with it that it started shaking. he followed up with an apology.
she looked so fragile, contrasting the tough cookie exterior she often put on view. at this point, any rational thought had been thrown out the window. it was hard to withstand an onslaught of tears from the person whose boundless love filled his life once upon a time, no matter how ugly their history was.
finally relaxing into his senses, he squeezed her into his arms. he had no reason to feign nonchalance anymore so he let himself melt onto her. this was the only way he could think to console her, since he was terrible with words, so much so that he would borrow other people's voices for his personal expression of artistry.
upon realizing their proximity, the pair avoided each other’s gaze as if their arms still weren't wrapped around each other. warmth was something baby always craved. hell, both of them. it's very likely the reason they were ever together. in fact, his squeeze on her shoulder tightened even more as his stream of consciousness became occupied with the predicament that they were in.
he cared for her immensely, even at present. that never changed throughout the years. he knew deep down that it'll be that way for an undetermined amount of time that may even surpass this life.
"you think you'll be fine at home?" he asked but the lilt in his voice was suggestive. he doesn't hesitate to voice out what he was implying by the question. "i can stay over and keep you company for the night, then tomorrow we can try to find your kitty again."
normally he'd pull this line for when he needed shelter away from his own. it was often that it happened. if truth be told, his recent sexual affairs were seeded by this habit. perhaps chaeseol knew it too. they did spend a good amount of time together after all. so she extended a home-cooked meal on top of his offer, practically the whole hog, even though the objective of this meeting wasn't achieved yet.
on the surface, it felt like everything was falling into place. this was what he'd always wanted for years, in spite of his denial, and he's pursuing it, undeterred by the past that had haunted him for as long as he can remember. the past that had trickled into every other relationship that came after.
maybe his life was designed so that he may never be truly happy and at peace.
bone-tired from the overnight search, hyuk and chaeseol succumbed to their narcosis. in an embrace, unbeknownst to either of them. perhaps that subconscious act was the subdued primal desire within them; only time can truly tell.
the tranquil was quickly disrupted by a distant scratching, so inconsistent in its rhythm it was almost straight out of a horror movie. there was chattering too if it wasn’t creepy enough. “what the fuck...” he mumbled lowly in a stupor, rousing from the bed suddenly. he checked to see if he had disturbed chaeseol in her sleep, a knee-jerk reaction from old habits, then lazily walked up toward the door where the strange noise was coming from, hoping it wasn’t some eldritch terror waiting on the other side.
“fuck, fuck, fuck...” he whispered, cautiously unlocking the door to find no one in sight. before he could scurry away in fright, however, a meow rung in his ear like a feedback. “ow!” he exclaimed, jumping slightly while his hands pressed at his ear instinctively. at his feet was the infamous pet who had decided to go on a journey on his own without letting his owner know. hyuk snatched at his chest and sighed in relief, mouthing ‘jesus’ before picking up the feline. “where’d you run off to, matcha? got your mom worried sick.”
hyuk lets the cat down on the bed where chaeseol still laid, sleeping soundly. matcha the cat sauntered toward his owner, coiling under her arm and settling beneath, atop the quilt. it was a polaroid-worthy sight that never fails to awe, differing from the turbulence of the night before.
“my job here is done.” he quipped as he grabbed his coat from the rack, taking a final glance at the room; the serenity of it all bringing the synapses of his brain to a standstill. part of it was a pain, yet one he can endure, one he can sleep through night after night without the anesthesia of false hope. this was once a place of solace to him, to both of them, prior to the long story filled with sighs. so much of it has changed. as she has, he hoped, for the better. so it seemed.
the lack of sleep left hyuk exhausted but the day wasn’t over for him. there was much to explain and he wasn’t looking forward to it. evidently, the thought of it on its own dampened his mood. he doesn’t even realize it.
several hours past the time agreed, hyuk arrived at jinri’s place. it was no surprise that no light was lit in the house anymore. how he had the balls to even show up was a wonder, but he was determined to keep to his promise. he has had too many no-shows with friends recently, he had to correct it in some way. and admittedly, jinri wasn’t just any friend to him. regardless of everything that had transpired within the day, it remained the same. it showed in how perturbed he was over jinri’s hypothetical reaction to him meeting with his ex just moments ago. he would have felt slighted, especially considering their conversations as of late.
“it must suck to be a rebound.” he recalled. the thought even stopped him in his tracks—how he had vehemently defended the notion, claiming nuance and such. howbeit, he knocked. he’s greeted by jinri seemingly ready for bed or perhaps having been in it already. “sorry...” a lot of apologies today, he thought. “i got caught up helping someone.” he said firmly, a little bit of his temper showing in his face. he let himself in without thinking too much about whether he was welcome. his train of thought was that, she opened the door so that must mean she still wanted him to come.
she doesn’t hesitate to express just how she felt every time. i missed you, she would often say. hyuk envied this emotional eloquence. he was never intentionally tight-lipped. he detested that he was, as a matter of fact. he wanted to feel freely. it’s one thing he still hasn’t learned how to do. it cripples him to think that he might never, because he’s lacking in a fundamental piece that most kids received from childhood; a family to love him, one he could love back.
he doesn’t utter anything anymore apart from “cool if i stay, right?” to which she responded in her usual manner. the silence almost felt cruel. and this kind of silence to hyuk always resulted in the whizzing noise in his ears. it was the reason for the music he’d play 24/7. jinri prods him. not in a prying way, but as a form of concern for someone that was meant to enjoy this night with her. still, he was too overwrought to hear reason.
then it happens, hyuk’s capacity to cope falling to bits and pieces. “i met up with my ex before i got here. i didn’t want you to fucking know but you wanna poke around so fucking bad.”
not so tight-lipped anymore.

hey, hey! this is a little late but i’m min (she/her, 20+) and i’m really excited to be here!!! thought it’d be fun to bring a little chaos with two-faced, aspiring announcer, baek jinri! close friends would know her as someone with a bit of a princess syndrome, while others might recognise her as the emcee for most campus events! i’ve included more info about her below the cut. if you’d like to plot, like this post and i’ll drop you a message! i’m also available on discord if you prefer it there!
BACKGROUND
born to old money, practically has her life set out for her but she wants none of that
ever since she was a child, she knew she wanted to be an announcer and dreams of working at south korea’s biggest broadcasting companies
there was just something about talking in front of people, using words to paint a picture, that she really enjoyed
she is majoring in broadcast journalism (for obvious reasons) and minoring in public relations (because she thinks pr is important and she’s really good at building relations, or faking it at least)
she’s also in the broadcasting club (first club she joined in her freshman year, again, for obvious reasons), kyungwon volunteer service (only because it looks good on her resume) and the student government as the representative of the department of social sciences
somewhere in her second year, she started up the emcee club which she is highly passionate about, that and she thought it would look good on her resume if she had started a club lol
this is why she might be a familiar face to most, because she’s seen hosting campus events (like the ongoing summer festival!)
while she is adamant to make a name for herself, she is admittedly very privileged; her parents pay for her dorm rent, which is why she doesn’t need a part-time job and can take on all these responsibilities
PERSONALITY
very career-driven, will do anything to succeed
but is also very good at putting on a fake front; most people like her when they first meet her (has more superficial friends than real friends)
believes that being two-faced will take her further because “that’s just how reality is”
is so used to getting what she wants that she can hardly take no for an answer
rather uptight when it comes to her work because she takes it very seriously (not a good team player tbh)
struggles with opening up and talking about her feelings, is used to putting on a perfect facade and hiding her flaws
acts like she has her shit together but really is just a girl who has many fears and worries
can be manipulative, has no qualms about using people to get what she wants
thrives on the attention, pretty much why she wants to be an announcer and why she enjoys hosting so much
flirty and is good at it too; has the tendency to make you feel important when you’re with her
WANTED CONNECTIONS
fake friends; she’s friends with you because there’s something she can benefit from and vice versa? that or you’re clueless and genuinely sees her as a friend
likewise, someone she’s flirting with or going on dates with because there’s something else she wants from them
exes? toxic relationships that ended badly; either she neglected you because of her work (which she deems more important) or a personality clash? i feel like it would be fun to have someone she really fell in love with before but screwed it up because of the way that she is
enemies to lovers/fwbs? enemies that are secretly attracted to each other?
the handful of real friends that she has, people that know her for who she really is but somehow still accept her? (she definitely needs people she can be vulnerable with)
north wing neighbours; she really sucks at living on her own because she was a literal princess back at home so she’d need a lot of help
people that dislike her (and for good reasons lol) maybe you’ve worked with her on a project before and realised what a little bitch she can be
fellow kyungwon volunteer service members who know she only joined to look good, not because she genuinely enjoys volunteering
people that know of her because they’ve seen her hosting for events on campus (maybe you’ve developed a little crush on her, or have always wanted to be her friend and got disappointed when you found out what she’s really like?)
a friend she often competes with, kind of like a toxic friendship that somehow gets her going? and maybe she actually likes this person but just can’t help but want to one-up them because of the way that she is
one night stands she regrets lol she’s not a good drinker and that leads to a lot of bad decisions she usually wouldn’t make when she’s sober
emcee club members! slipping in a little promo for her club lol pls join if you like having the attention on you too (or if you’re just generally good at talking/hosting)

verse  fairytale skeleton  rogue curse   WHITE RABBIT CURSE,  upon being cursed, JINRI’s experience and perception of time is perpetually out of sync and usually delayed, affecting her reaction times and speed at which she functions. this lateness will increase as time flows past her, slowing her general functioning until a year later, when even her heartbeat is late for its appointment. in the silence she prefers to keep, she can sometimes hear the ticking of a windup watch. the curse can only be broken if JINRI is able to set all clocks around her forward by the exact amount of time she is missing and in synchronicity with each other.
TIMELINE
jinri grew up in chaekhwa-dong as one of the lost children, left at the door of the church to be cared for and fostered out when she’s old enough to have taken her first steps
her girlhood is spent running, that ever-present feeling of something on her heels, like consequences for actions she hasn’t committed yet. the streak of mischief in her means that, sometimes, the urge to run is very much warranted, with her sticky fingers and a penchant for havoc that has the townspeople ready to skin her like a rabbit
it catches up to her, eventually, jinri running fast and far away enough at age fourteen to find herself in a different city, taken in by people who seemed kind ( unintentionally at first, since she was a kid, and as she got older she got better at identifying the bleeding hearts who would let her in )
and this is how she learns to survive on the streets and off them, with a disarming charm that opens doors that shouldn’t be, light on her feet and sleight of hand as she takes what she needs ( and sometimes, what she doesn’t )
at least, until her biggest con to date comes crashing down like a house of playing cards earlier than she expected, chasing her back into the humdrum, idyllic town of chaekhwa-dong to lay low for a bit
it’s been a year since she’s been in chaekhwa, although it feels less time than that to most with how reticent she is about herself, somehow a permanent fresh face around town. few know her well, and even fewer know that she grew up here, although the way she navigates around town is far too familiar to be just a visitor
( and, well, she might be a little more acquainted with your house than she ought to be, too )
NO TIME TO SAY HELLO, GOODBYE I’M LATE, LATE, LATE!

authors note - In this story the main character will be portrayed by Kim Chaewon, but I do NOT ship any of the idols mentioned. I only used Chaewon as a representation of the main girl, because I am not good in writing 2nd pov stories, I mainly shine in 3rd pov. And for that I realized that I needed a set character and persona. And most of the layout for this was inspired by @/lqfiles

today, yilong wakes up without a hand. there is a familiar ache where his knuckles should be, but his wrist instead fades into transparency right where the end of his palm should begin. it sets his day off to a lopsided start, a stuttering pause in every action when he forgets and thinks himself whole, and is the catalyst for how harsh he is on miss go jinri.
which is… well, harsher than he might normally be.
hidden within the facade of a casual pose is his missing hand, shoved away in the pocket of his suit jacket. he smiles at her - something perhaps vaguely threatening, as he approaches from between the cluttered aisles. mirroring him is jinri’s not-so-deft handful of an antique-style watch right into her pocket. a thief, in his shop? the gems inlaid in the watch’s cover may be faux, its brass washed with artificial wear, but still… yilong’s curiosity has been piqued, amusement glinting in his eyes until his expression turns to severity.
“i’m sorry, are you trying to leave without paying?” tsk, tsk. he crosses his arms, vanished hand tucked into the crook of his elbow. go jinri’s a bit of an enigma for him - he has only heard of her by name, could only make assumptions from afar. and now, she’s on his turf, being a thief? he leans into the act a bit more, an irritated huff masking his urge to grin. “that’s called stealing, if you weren’t aware. i could have you behind bars for that.”

+ … // STUDENT PROFILE … LOADING
BAEK JINRI, is 21 YEARS OLD and currently enrolled in kyungwon university. she is in her 3RD YEAR of the UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM, majoring in BROADCAST JOURNALISM with a minor in PUBLIC RELATIONS. she is notably a member of the BROADCASTING CLUB, KYUNGWON VOLUNTEER SERVICE and is the STUDENT GOVERNMENT REPRSENTATIVE (DEPT OF SOCIAL SCIENCE). you may find her in the NORTH WING DORM (ROOM #10).
                       + ... // LOAD STUDENT BACKGROUND . . .
most children don’t know what they want to be when they grow up—baek jinri was different. every time she was asked that question, she answered with absolute certainty, “i want to be an announcer.“
perhaps it’s because she has always enjoyed having the attention on her, she grew up yearning for nothing more than a mic in her hand and a camera in her face. it definitely helped that people thought she had the face for it too.
her parents thought it was a phase she would grow out of when she got older. what they had planned for her was very different—they wanted her to help out with the family’s business, much like her older brother. however, not even they could tell her what to do with her life. once she has set her eyes on something, she would stop at nothing until she gets what she wants. it started out with toys she coveted at toy stores, to boys she wraps around her finger—anything baek jinri wants, she gets.
it’s easy because she knows the right words to say; coupled with a coy smile, the kind that makes you think you’re more important than you really are. just like that, she has people falling at her feet, paving the way for her to obtain everything she’s ever dreamt of.
the path to success is rocky, but she cushions it by stepping on people in her way. if the only way up was to step on you, she’d do it, with her fanciest boots on at that.
the art of manipulation isn’t the only thing she excels in. from a young age, she was taught to wear a mask, one that presents her in the best possible light. she spends every moment perfecting her facade, just as she spends her time building the resume for her dream job. kyungwon is the final hurdle before the moment she’s been waiting for; everything that happens here is crucial to her end goal. she might bare her teeth towards anything, or anyone, that gets in her way, but you wouldn’t be able to tell with it hidden behind her saccharine smile.

Today is the birthday of our dear Sulli ❤️. I didn’t make any gifs for her last year, I guess it didn’t feel right since it was her first birthday since her passing, but I don’t want to focus on the negative and instead share how bright and talented Sulli was. So happy birthday Sulli, I hope you found happiness ❤️.

JIN !
jinri
jin & cheri are very similar personality wise.
they both care for the members immensely and only want what’s best for them.
despite being social introverts, they’re very reserved with each other.
they usually spend their time together while eating or writing.
they rarely say “i love you” but they always always show it.
YOONGI !
suri
cheri adores yoongi.
they’ve acted like siblings since the day they met and even call each other their sibling.
before cheri had her own studio she would spend so many nights with yoongi in his studio helping him work and vice versa.
cheri is yoongi’s “muse”; not in a romantic way, but in the way if she’s in the studio he can do so much more.
cheri feels incredibly loved by yoongi and yoongi always lets her know.
chaeseok
cheri and hobi are each other’s fuel.
cheri and hobi are each other’s fuel.
they keep each other going whenever things get rough.
hoseok has a great understanding of cheri because cheri has never been able to put her thoughts into coherent sentences.
these two love each other so much and they make it known.
NAMJOON !
namchae
namjoon is cheri’s designated hyung.
cheri is namjoon’s twin flame.
they push each other constantly but are so incredibly gentle with each other.
they always say how proud they are of each other and they mean it; they’ve been through so much and they’ve overcome even more.
JIMIN !
chaemi
these two are so pretty.
like, fans look at them together and are just in awe.
their relationship is so important to fans because they used to fight. a lot.
there was a point where cheri was thinking about leaving the group because she had seen how many “fans” hated her for no reason other than being in a group with seven men.
jimin and cheri fought tooth and nail at that point but he was dead set on keeping her in that group.
they still play fight and are just all around petty with each other but they love each other so much.
TAEHYUNG !
vaerin
two words: aesthetic bitches.
they do have very different aesthetics, but they’re aesthetic nevertheless.
these two talk for fucking ever about art and fashion.
tae really likes stealing chae’s jewelry because it’s “prettier than his”.
she bought them matching jewelry because of this.
they’re love language is gifts.
he gives her vante exclusive clothes and she gives him cheri class jewelry.
JUNGKOOK !
chaekoo
chaos babies.
they refer to each other as “bf” & “gf” for no reason other than people always think they’re dating (they’re not).
they’re so loud when they’re together. especially when they play games.
they’re both sore losers and both pouty but they plot against the hyungs so it makes losing more fun.
they like prank wars so much. first against each other, then they go for hoseok, and then they go for vmin, and then the rest group joins in and yoongi always wins ???
they’re both so cuddly.
jungkook is so delicate with everything and especially chae.
he goes to her for advice or just when he wants to talk about his day. they love each other a whole lot.

@leewalberg @his-mochi-cheeks @changshapatrol
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you left Cheongsong, you’d left for good. Or so you’d thought.
Ten years later what brought you back was not your family, for you had none left, but the murders of two young women that had left the quaint little town, surrounded by hills artistically contoured by apple orchards, shaken and distraught.
Everyone knew each other in Cheongsong which should have made Superintendent Kim Minseok’s job easier, but he was caught in an ugly snare of emotions which seemed to have clouded his critical thinking faculties. These were people he knew closely, people he’d grown up with. For him, pointing fingers at any of them meant carving permanent cracks in relationships that were stronger than most familial ties.
“Off the record, then”, you shoved your scratchpad back into your purse, turned off the recorder with a click and looked at Minseok square in the eyes, only to find the amiable, portly, catlike footballer you went to school with hidden in their farthest, darkest depths - reduced to a mere whimsy. The memories of the man who sat before you, now seemed abysmally distorted by the colossal burden of the unknown.
“It never is.” He chuckled darkly, took a measured sip of his bourbon and rolled it around his tongue before swallowing. “Never thought I’d see you here again.”
“That makes two of us. Write about killings in your hometown...it makes an impact because it’s personal, my boss says. We’re to...exploit the fact that nobody substantial is covering this.” You recited, eyes trained on the sliver of grime on the coaster.
Minseok clicked his tongue in disapproval and enquired, “Where have you been staying?”
“A guest house by the Country Club.”
“So, not the Mansion”, he remarked callously.
Wounds that had barely healed came undone at the mention of your family home. Your throat tightened and you felt as if you had been shanked with a broken bottle in the stomach. The ill fated house reeked of misfortune, grief and loss. Its inhabitants had fallen one by one like lined up dominoes. This curse had forced you out to start a new life in Seoul.
“It’s still quite well kept, you know.” Minseok stated matter-of-factly.
Taking a deep swig of your bourbon, you explained earnestly as the burn of the liquid blazed down your throat, “Minseok, I want nothing more than to get out of here. So, please, give me something. A nugget.”
“I don’t want to be quoted on this. Or misquoted. This is all new to me as well. Two bodies in three months? Can you imagine?” Overcome with emotion, he ran a hand through his hair and squeezed his eyes shut.
You put a comforting hand on his and offered in a voice laced with empathy, “Listen, from where I stand, all you need is a new line of inquiry and linking these two murders would give you one. I’ve seen the pictures.”
You swiped through images of two dark haired women on your phone - Park Soojin and Seo Jinri. Both of them were in their late twenties. They lay in their own beds as if soundly asleep, modesty protected only by sheer white blankets, crimson tinted lips parted ever so slightly, freshly painted nails shining in dim lighting. And roses. There were a couple of red roses placed by their side as if in condolence. The blood curdling strangulation marks around their necks made them look like dreadfully divine paintings.
“They could be sisters”, you observed with moist eyes, voice hushed to a whisper.
Contemplating on the images with pursed lips, Minseok responded with a tight nod and waved a 50,000 bill in the waitress’ general direction.
“Where’d you find these?” He asked in a threateningly calm voice, averting his eyes from your apparently disagreeable gaze.
“You know that’s confidential”, you replied, half-shrugging, nonchalant.
“I’ll drop you home”, he muttered, and shoved his wallet in the back pocket of his jeans.
With a defeated sigh you grabbed your purse and phone and proceeded to follow Minseok out of the only bar in Cheongsong, “No, it’s fine. I could use a walk.”
Suddenly, he turned around, searched your eyes for a fleeting second before admitting begrudgingly, “Kim Jongin. He’s the prime suspect in the first case. The murder of Park Soojin.”
Your legs froze. “What?! Why?”
You knew Kim Jongin, like you knew everyone else in this town. His family owned one of the biggest apple orchards in Cheongsong but Kim Jongin never manifested that in his behaviour. He was known to be friendly, kind, sensitive. Almost too sensitive some would say.
“That’s it. That’s your nugget. Here.” He handed you a business card bearing the name ‘Dr. Doh Kyungsoo’. “He’s been informally assisting with offender profiling. He’ll talk to you. Seems like he’ll talk to anyone, really. Now get in the car, it’s freezing out here.”
.
.
.
“Dr. Doh, thank you for taking the time to meet with me.”
Dr. Doh Kyungsoo’s home office was a detached unit with a separate entrance, distanced from his main residence. It was exactly the way you’d imagined a psychologist’s office to be - light coloured walls, comfortable chairs, soft pillows, insipid artwork. Neat and clean, fostering a sense of comfort for visitors.
The Doh family had moved into Cheongsong shortly after you’d left for Seoul. Coming from old money in search of some peace and quiet, they invested in agricultural distribution, Cheongyang Pepper farms and assumed one of the more significant estates to live in while their only son, Doh Kyungsoo, was sent abroad to pursue higher education.
“Please, call me Kyungsoo.” He took your hand in his, gave it a good, firm shake and gestured you to take the chair opposite his.
“I think ‘Dr. Doh’ should be fine”, you stated plainly and he acknowledged with a curt nod.
“What brings you here?” Asked Kyungsoo, holding your gaze, hands folded in his lap as he leaned back into his chair with a soft sigh.
Grimacing, you waved your recorder at him, “They say you’re my ticket out of this godforsaken place.”
Minseok had helped you set up the meeting so you thought it proper to waive cumbersome introductions and niceties and Kyungsoo seemed very much in sync with your line of thought.
He smiled, “I’m merely a bystander, Miss Jung, with slightly more informed opinions, maybe.”
“Informed opinions are what I’m here for, Dr. Doh.” You smiled back, “Superintendent Kim Minseok doesn’t seem to like you very much.”
“He’s a man shackled by bureaucracy and I’m a constant reminder of his team’s staggering incompetence, If I were him, I wouldn’t like me very much either.”
“Do you think there’s a link between the two murders?”
He nods. “I’m fairly certain there is.”
“But the police won’t look into it? Why is that?”
“Nobody likes a serial, Miss Jung. Besides, there’s no way the team could cope with the increased workload of linked inquiries. There are over a hundred statements, documents, officers’ reports waiting to be read and actioned. And the case of Park Soojin is a peculiar one.”
“Kim Jongin’s girlfriend? How so?”
“She was the ex-wife of a member of the parliament. This case does absolutely no favours to his image so he needs it solved immediately.”
The word solved was treated to air quotes.
“So, they’ve ruled him out as a suspect?”
“His alibi checks out. They suspect Kim Jongin.”
“Why? Just because Kim Jongin fled immediately after her body was found? How did the police react to that?”
“Because Jongin fled, his brother was asked to provide DNA which turned out to be a familial match to the DNA gathered at the crime scene. But that does not necessarily mean it’s the killer’s DNA. Miss Park was in a relationship with him. There’s no surprise his semen was found in her esophagus.”
“Do you rule him out as a suspect then?”
“I prefer to reserve my comment.”
“Why do you think he fled?”
“Grief drives us to do irrational things, Miss Jung. Maybe he just needed a breather from everything that was going on here. Can’t say for sure.”
“You’re certain the perpetrator is male?”
“Yes, I am. The perpetrator is male and an athletic one at that. Probably in his late twenties or early thirties. While the strangulation marks may be different, the pathologists reports suggest petechial haemorrhage in both cases which means he strangled and released and then strangled again, over and over. He’s either a sadist, or his hand lacks strength. You try it, grab my wrist.”
He extended his arm towards you and you politely declined. So he wrapped his right hand over his left wrist and held firmly for a few moments.
“Forty seconds. It’s amazing how quickly the hand tires!” He exclaimed as if awestruck. It was the maximum emotion the inscrutable Dr. Doh had displayed during the course of this interview.
“Victims of strangulation are known to make a mess of themselves. They defecate and / or urinate..”
“That is correct. The bodies were both found posed and clean. Which means he spent hours after, washing them and cleaning the sheets, even. There could be a religious angle to this. Washing away their sins...maybe his own, considering he probably gets into the bath with them.”
He pushed a cup of long gone cold tea towards you, but you shook your head. As a crime reporter, you thought you’d seen it all but the possibility of this being the work of a serial killer was a first for you. Also the fact that it was happening in the place you grew up in was starting to gnaw at you a little more aggressively than you’d liked.
“I’m not going to lie, Dr. Doh, this gives me pause for concern. Do you think there is a sexual angle to these killings? As far as I know, the victims have shown no signs of any such abuse.”
Kyungsoo sipped on his tea and worried at his lower lip briefly before responding. “I believe he’s the kind to take pictures, momentos from the scene. They sustain him between killings.”
“And the roses? There were..”
“Three next to Park Soojin’s corpse and two next to Seo Jinri’s.”
“Does it indicate -”
“- a countdown? Perhaps.” He studied your face intently and offered you tea again. This time you complied and then proceeded with the interview.
“There was no sign of forced entry in either cases. The police think the perpetrator was known to the victims.”
“Maybe. Maybe not. You see, Miss Jung, the problem is that these cases were treated as self solvers from the get go and that’s where it all went wrong.”
His smile at the end of that sentence was one of finality, somehow indicative that you’d overstayed your welcome. To be able to milk him for all he was worth, you were going to let him loose for the time being.
Clicking your recorder off, you tilted your head to the side, smiled politely, “Well, thank you for your time, Dr. Doh.”
“It’s been a pleasure.”
While he was walking you to the front door, you couldn’t help but ask, “Dr. Doh, if I may, were the victims known to each other? Were they friends? Acquaintances?”
“That’s for the police to investigate. They were both in their late twenties, highly qualified -  one was a solicitor the other a botanist, both tan with double eyelids, a little over 5 feet”, He took a step closer to you, instinctively you took an uncomfortable step back but found yourself trapped between him and the front door. His burgundy turtleneck smelt like warm, sweet gingerbread mixed with the contrastive redolence of something woody. He put his hand on the clip that held your hair in a bun, an elusive smile dancing on his lips as he allowed your hair to freely ripple down to your waist. “...and they both had dark, waist length hair”, he whispered into your ear, sending a frisson of fear down your spine.
You looked at him like a deer caught in the headlights as he slowly retracted. Eyes locked with yours and face contorted in a fierce frown, he concluded grimly, “You fit his profile.”
.
.
.
Unable to sleep well that night, you went for an early morning run the next day and took a detour to Minseok’s residence. After discussing your findings with him, he offered you a close protection officer who’d moonlight to provide you security just until they’d made an arrest. Which meant you’d have one uniformed officer standing guard outside your guest house all day. You knew that they wouldn’t have done this for you if your family name wasn’t Jung.
“Kim Jongin’s back in town.” Relief seemed to have smoothened the lines on Minseok’s forehead and there was a boost of confidence in his voice when he broke the news to you.
“Are you planning to take him in?” you asked, sipping on coffee in Minseok’s kitchen while he made you some eggs.
He looked victorious and his brows shot up to his hairline as he explained animatedly, “We have enough evidence to put him on trial. I’ll get the warrant in two days.”
“Hand to your heart, do you think he did it?”
“Yah, I’d never be able to make an arrest like that. If you promise not to quote me, I will say that -”
He peered at you questioningly and you eased him with a reassuring nod, “Go on.”
“This looks like the work of an outsider.”
.
.
.
Later that evening, you found Jongin seated alone at a table in the bar. Beaten, as if overcome with exhaustion he was crouched over a glass of scotch, a silent tear sliding down his cheek. You sat next to him and ordered him another drink.
“I killed her.” He stated simply, eyes trained on the empty glass in front of him. To see a man whose taste buds didn’t even agree with coffee back in the day downing hard liquor effortlessly, broke your heart.
“What?” you enquired, sparing no effort to lay the edge off of your voice.
“That evening, we’d had a huge argument. She- she’d been wanting to move out of here for the longest time and I never agreed. It was as if she knew!” Burying his face in his hands, he broke into full blown sobs. It was a while before he composed himself and spoke again, “Here, you have your story. Following a trivial spat, a small town chaebol kills his girlfriend.”
Shaking your head furiously in disagreement, you held him tightly by his shoulders, “This is your chance, Jongin. Speak your truth. Tell them that you didn’t do it. They’ll need to hear it from you!”
Jongin looked you in the eyes, his own brimming with tears, “I was twelve when my puppy died and I couldn’t seem to get over it. My mother gave me this book which said the only way men can get over grief is by showing indifference, I tried that with Soojin.”
Brows furrowed, you asked, “And?”
“It worked for an hour.” He chuckled darkly, “I loved her and I always will. At this point I just don’t care. I should’ve listened to her. Maybe I even deserve this. I see the way people look at me, I- I feel written off, ostracized. A goddamn parliamentarian wants me in. My truth won’t survive their might.”
Letting out an exasperated sigh, you started to talk him out of potential suicide, “Jongin -”
But he raised his forefinger to silence you. Trembling, he asked, “I just find myself wondering, can you die from a broken heart?”
.
.
.
Kim Jongin had turned himself in.
Acquiescent to the slow wheels of justice, moderately satisfied with the first draft of your article, and concerned about your safety, your boss agreed to call you back to the Seoul office, at least until there were further developments in the case.
During the course of your stay in Cheongsong, you drove past the little street leading up to the Mansion several times but not once did you glance in its direction. Before your flight the next morning, you decided to pay the house a little visit to say a final goodbye. The first snow had laid a fleecy white blanket on the ceramic roof that gleamed from the light of the astral light of the night sky. You were flooded with memories of chasing butterflies in spring, climbing the only mango tree in town which still stood proud in your backyard, the stories of monsters and ghosts your parents would read to you in the blanket forts you’d build together… blissfully unaware that in a not so far future this was all your life would entail - monsters and ghosts.
The great oakwood front door turned on its hinges and a familiar aroma of caramel apple hotteok invited you in. They say every house has a peculiar smell and yours smelt of caramel apple hotteok, even after all this time. Your lips curled upward at the strangeness of your sentiments. The demons you tried so hard to escape all your life seemed like bad dreams and what was left of this place within you was just the good. The pure, unadulterated joy that was once your childhood.
You proceeded to the kitchen to fetch yourself a cup of hot water, and that’s when you heard a knock on the front door. You ignored it at first thinking it was just the wind but the knock came again. Louder, this time. You left the kitchen to answer the door.
“Dr. Doh!” you exclaimed, utterly surprised to see him here at this hour.
“Miss Jung”, he smiled sheepishly, “I went by the guest house but the guard said you were at the Mansion. I just wanted to say goodbye, I’m leaving for Gyeonggi in the a.m.”
“Oh, yes, of course. Uh - I’m sorry, please, come in.”
He followed you to the kitchen and said apologetically, “I hope I’m not imposing.”
“No, not at all! Never quite realised just how massive this house actually is - It was starting to eat me up. Gyeonggi, you say?”
“Oh, it’s a cursed life as an independent consultant, Miss Jung. I’m mostly living out of a suitcase..”
“I wish I could say differently. So your presence here was requested by Minseok’s team?” You asked as he took a seat at the kitchen table.
“No, I arrived just about a month before the first murder. My parents passed in a car crash three years ago. So I decided to sell the estate and the pepper farms.” He explained, taking a seat at the kitchen table.
“Would you like some tea? I brought some tea bags with me. I don’t know which tea it is, though.” You offered, mindlessly pouring hot water into two cups.
“Sure” , he nodded.
“So did you?”
“What?”
“Manage to sell everything? And I’m sorry - uh about your parents.”
You didn’t feel sorry. What you felt was an inexplicable weight in your chest rendering you breathless. Your heart started pounding erratically and your mind clouded over with a sense of impending doom as you went about the mundane task of making tea.
“You seem a little out of it, Miss Jung. Is something bothering you?” He got off his chair and guided you to yours as your legs threatened to give away.
You sipped on some warm tea to steady yourself and said to Kyungsoo, “Oh, no it’s … It’s just this house. Maybe you were right, Dr. Doh. This isn’t a good time. I’m sorry but I might have to ask you to leave.”
Kyungsoo didn’t react. At all. He stood still, eyes fixed on your trembling frame.
“Park Soojin wasn’t his first kill”, he whispered.
“What?” you asked feebly, still trying to get a hold of yourself.
Kyungsoo sauntered over to the kitchen counter and brought you a glass of water. “Pay attention, Miss Jung. Park Soojin wasn’t his first kill. He was sloppy with the first one and it was only by a stroke of luck that he managed to get away. So he planned better with Soojin. Got even better with Jinri.”
Startled, you looked him in the eyes and he gave you a smile that raised goosebumps on your skin.
Unperturbed Kyungsoo continued, pacing leisurely in the kitchen, a spine-chilling hint of exhilaration in his voice. “His criminal sophistication indicates that he understands criminology and knows police work. Unfortunately, Miss Jung,”, his voice dropped and you suddenly felt shackled to your seat. Squirming, but unable to make any big movement like reaching out for something that was heavy or sharp or both, “The tragedy is that he’s always believed he’s inferior to these women. But -”
Kyungsoo levelled his face with yours and grinned with a glimmer of victory in his eyes, “for every tragedy, there is a happy ending.”
It took all you could muster to hold it together and dash for your purse to retrieve your cell phone. But you didn’t find it in there.
“Is this what you’re looking for?” asked Kyungsoo, teasing as he pulled your phone from the inside pocket of his overcoat and handed it to you.
You tried to turn it on to no avail. Voice as steady as could be, you said to him, “Please, please just leave!”
He took two easy steps towards you and you found yourself encased between his body and the wall. “Well then you shouldn’t have let me in! Tell me something, how could the close protection officer have given me your whereabouts if you dismissed him immediately after Jongin’s arrest? Haven’t you learnt since you were a little girl - always keep your guard up. Think before you speak. Did you think you were invincible?”
He took your hand in his and guided you back to the kitchen table. Eyes brimming tears, body trembling, and mind overcome with dread you followed him as if he were the pied piper. The familiar scent of gingerbread wafted up your nostrils making you nauseous.
As soon as you took a seat at the table, he put on his gloves, and lay a bottle of red nail polish and a red rose before you.
“Just think about how you can be with them again, Miss Jung. And don’t worry...I’ll be gentle.”
