So @journey-to-the-au showed us WuKong and Willow babies and called him broody.
My only thought was broody chicken, and this was made. This is not meant to be taken seriously. XD it just popped in my head, and I couldn't do anything until I drew it.
I hope you enjoy chicken WuKong keeping his babies "warm." I apologize for my brain for this XD.

Do you know all of Sun Wukong's children? I understand that King Paramita is Lady Iron Fan's son with Wukong(?). and that Yuebei Xing and her brothers are maybe children of Taiyin xing (the theory). Obviously I understand that they are not like something canon, however, it is interesting to know about them.
I can’t say that I do know every iteration that Wukong has kids but I can try to make a list of what I got at least! There are the non-canon kids of Sun Wukong that I know of at least right now. I'm sure there is more but these are the ones I know from media at the moment.
A Supplement to the Journey to the West (1640) 西遊補 (this is just a dream) Paramita 4 other unnamed sons
Journey to the South (1570) 南遊記 (unnamed partner) Jidu Luohou Yuebei Xing
Later Journey to the West (17th-century) 後西遊記 Sun Luzhen (adopted)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (2000) マーヴル VS. カプコン 2 Sonson
Westward Journey Online II (2002) 大话西游2经典版 Mind Monkey (unintentionally contributed to new Rock Monkey)
High School DxD (2008) ハイスクールD×D Bikou
The Monkey King's Daughter (2009) Meilin Cheng
New Journey to the West: Unexpected Jingxi (2017) 新西游之意外晶喜 Unborn child (with White Bone spirit) (also might not be his)
Adventure in Journey to the West (2018)大闹西游 Sun Wuyuan (disciple, but like it's obvious he adopted)
God of High School (2020) 갓 오브 하이 스쿨 Park Taejin (adopted)
DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration #1 (2021) Sun Marcus (hair clone treated as child)
The Chronicles of the Ranger (2021) 游侠战纪 Hou Mo (stone monkey, hard to say if direct descendant)
Monkey King (2022) 悟·空 Sun Xiaosheng (disciple, might be adopted)
American Born Chinese(2023) Sun Wei-Chen
Honorary mentions:
Monkey King: Hero Is Back (2015) 西遊記之大聖歸來 Jiang Liu'er Anan
My Dad is Monkey King (2021) 我的爸爸是齐天大圣 Li Yiyi (this is more symbolic than real dad)
Lego Monkie Kid (2021) 悟空小侠 Qi Xiaotian / MK (stone monkey, possibly related)
So this is NOT ALL of the children I'm sure but I'm sure as I keep posting media that the list with increase!

which of swk's kids do you think would be his heir? and what roles do you think the others would take on?
Uh. Well with the Monkey King's whole 5+ immortality and enlightenment deal, probably none of them XD. As is--and while I am very much aware that this is going against macaques' usual structure of most young directly inheriting their status-- I imagine that SWK would take a little more of a background role to the politics of day-to-day living on Mt. Huaguoshan after he becomes the Buddha Victorious in Strife, and spends more time on that side of things ensuring that the relations between the monkey yao and other beings in heaven and earth stay amicable. So who's officially "in charge" of Mt. Huaguoshan is a pretty fluid thing that can't be completely pinned to one specific individual, but is rather made of a loose coalition between SWK, the immortal monkey generals and marshals Ma, Liu, Beng, and Ba, and a large collection of frequently shifting yaoguai and even a number of humans who specialize in different necessary fields like agriculture, masonry, and medicine.
That said, SWK IS Mt. Huaguoshan's official figurehead, mostly because of his long history as the official communal grandpa and protector of the Fruit and Flower monkey yao, and because of his status as a being who's both monkey, man, and buddha all at once. But less fortunately, there's also the fact that his raw power more or less makes him a living WMD, as proven to heaven all those centuries ago when he havoced through the ranks of the deities and other immortals. So while most are on board with keeping up a good or at least civil relationship with the Mt. Huaguoshan yaoguai now, there's also that background threat of what could and did happen when they're attacked.
So with that kind of situation, Quidou, Luohou, and Yuebei Xing are left in this kind of weird and sometimes frightening place. They have a lot of freedom to choose what they want to do with their lives since Sun Wukong had them not because he needed heirs but because he wanted biological children to love and encourage in their passions. But they are also living in the aftermath of the war with heaven, the burning of Mt. Huaguoshan, and the years-long massacre of monkeys at the hands of hunters which only stopped because SWK massacred said hunters in turn. Things have stabilized significantly since the days of war, genocide and famine, and their father constantly emphasizes the need for diplomatic solutions. Yet there's also always that sense that things could in fact go very bad for them and their loved ones if they aren't able to back up their words with legitimate threats. And they only have to look at the human world to see how often that's the case, even between nations :( Plus while they may also be stone monkeys, Quidhou, Luohou, and Yuebei Xing are also a LOT less immortal and invulnerable than their famous father.
Tumblr media
But to give a quick summary, as adults Quidou does find contentment in acting as a Mt. Huaguoshan guard and a shifu for many young monkey yaoguai in the martial arts (he's actually the most skilled fighter out of the three), Luohou becomes an interesting mix of a court painter/traveling diplomat who's frequently on the move, and Yuebei Xing, while more of a homebody and scholar than her brothers, out of the three Sun children ends up gaining the most fame and notoriety mainly because of her vast knowledge of curses, especially one that can condemn even immortals to a painful death.
It's no wonder that a number of deities are regarding the existence of even more dangerous stone monkeys with concern and fear. But the truce between Heaven and Mt. Huagushan still holds.

I love how Yue is like “they’re so little” when it comes to her brothers, but they’re already older than she was during part 1 lmao
now she understands why her parents doted on her so much, she really *was* a baby
I mean, things are a lot clearer when you’re in the other person’s shoes, right? Now that she’s no longer teeny tiny and (mostly) out of her survivalist mindset, Yue understands now why everyone treated her so gently and dotingly.
Her brothers are so small to her and she was even smaller - especially with the malnutrition before she landed in FFM.
Yue also saw how her brothers grew and developed and wonders why her family never thought she was strange. She definitely didn’t act like a normal toddler, even by yaoguai standards. (No, Red doesn’t count. He’s a natural prodigy and he still had some toddler-typical immaturity.)
The answer to that question, by the way, is that FFM as a whole are used to weird foundlings and don’t really have a normal measurement for the child development of a monkey yaoguai. Wukong popped out of an egg walking and talking and shooting laser beams. Macaque was forced to grow up quick when he was small. Shanzha was just relieved that Yue had the skills and smarts to survive (She also grew up alone and wasn’t literate until RinRin came into her life).
RinRin is the only one out of all of them who kinda was taken aback by Yue’s intelligence at first. But then, she just went with it since this was the child who caught her Master’s attention so of course she would be special.

The Mother of Sun Wukong's Children in Journey to the South
In my previous articles "The Monkey King's Children" and "Yuebei xing, Daughter of the Monkey King," I revealed that Sun Wukong has three children in Journey to the South (Nanyouji, 南遊記, c. 1570s to 1580s). These include sons Jidu (奇都) and Luohou (羅猴) and daughter Yuebei Xing (月孛星). The novel never explains who the mother is, but an educated guess can be made for the purposes of fan fiction.
Each child is based on one of three lunar deities appearing among the “Eleven Luminaries” (Shiyi yao, 十一曜), which comprises planetary gods from both South and East Asian astrology. The specific deities are:
Jidu (奇都, “Ketu”) = Represents the southern (descending) lunar node, or the point where the moon crosses the earth’s orbit around the sun. Associated with eclipses.
Luohou (羅睺, “Rahu”) = Represents the northern (ascending) lunar node. Also associated with eclipses.
Yuebei Xing (月孛星, “Moon Comet Star”) = Represents the lunar apogee, or the furthest point in the moon’s orbit.
Given their close connection to the night time celestial body, it would make sense for the mother to be Taiyin xing (太陰星, “Great Yin Star”), goddess of the moon from the Eleven Luminaries.
Tumblr media
A detail of Taiyin xing from a Chinese depiction of the Eleven Luminaries (larger version). A full version of the drawing appears in the Ink Treasure of Wu Daozi (Daozi mobao, 道子墨寶, c. 13th-century) (larger version). She is the fourth person from the left on the top row.

Incorrect quotes for most of my AUs
Primate Brotherhood AU
Wukong: You lying, cheating, piece of shit!
Macaque: Oh yeah? You’re the idiot who thinks you can get away with everything you do. WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!

Shi Hou reborn AU
MK: So, what, now I’m just supposed to do anything that Shi Hou does? I mean, what if he jumped off a cliff?
Macaque: If Shi Hou were to jump off a cliff, he would’ve done their due diligence regarding height of the cliff, the depth of the water, and the angle of entry, so yes. If you see Shi Hou jump off a cliff, by all means, jump off a cliff.
MK: You jump off a cliff!
Macaque: Gladly. Provided Shi Hou did first.

Villain Tripitaka AU
Tripitaka: I’m a reverse necromancer.
Tang: Isn’t that just killing people?

Hi! I don’t know if you happen to know, but I’m trying to research Journey to the South (as I am currently reading Journey to the West) but I can’t seem to find any translations of it available to an English speaking audience. Would you happen to know of any translations?
Thank you
Funny enough I happen to know quite a bit! I helped create and edit the JTTS pdf together and it is publically available thanks to @journeytothewestresearch
Feel free to enjoy!

Here are the other two Shadowpeach kids I designed. These two Jidu and Luohou, the other two children of Monkey King's from JTTS Link. Face markings are based on the lunar node symbols. For the AU I came up with they would be born sometime after Wukong and Macaque reconcile, so either after season 3 or 4 (haven’t decided which yet).
Jidu is like the Lunar Eclipse. He's an optimist that likes to bounce from one thing to another when it interests him. Even if he's not good at something he'll continue trying it as long he enjoys it. Looks mostly like Macaque but with Wukong’s gold fur.
While Luohou is like the Solar Eclipse. Usually great at anything he tries but tends to hyper focus on minor mistakes. Gets easily frustrated when something doesn’t go his way. Looks mostly like Wukong except with Macaque’s dark fur.
When it comes to powers I haven't really decided yet, except that Jidu has Macaque's hearing and Luohou has Wukong's gold vision. I made the twins younger than Yuebei Xing but l actually don't know which of them are older.

Saw the expression meme. How about 2 7 11 and 15 for Wukong and his kids? You can decide who gets what expression between them. :3
Incredibly sketchy, but here's the immediate Sun family in all their expression-filled glory! From top to bottom we've got Sun Wukong, Luohou, Yuebei Xing, and Jidu. And thanks for the request anon; this is messy, but it was very fun :3

I made a fanfic about the non-canon kids for Supplement JTTW, JTTS, and PJTTW!
I do wanna say that I started the chapters with Wukong being mostly inspired by 1996 Xiyouji dynamics and who Wukong is mostly based on. The first chapters are about Paramita and the four unnamed kids in Supplement! All named after paramitas in buddism.
I try to base each kid off one of Wukong's inspirations in media! I hope y'all enjoy!
Tumblr media
I'm not the best artist but I did have fun trying to draw them
Pink - Jnana, fifth born
Red - Paramita, first born
Yellow - Bala, fourth born
Green - Pranidhana, thrid born
Blue - Upaya - second born
