Life Update Nobody Asked For

So...

If you have taken the time to check out my little profile blurb you'll know that I am a wife to a beast of a man and mother to 3 little monsters. Well this time of year is always chaos filled (more than our normal chaos).

Very important life things are taking place this month, that need my full attention. Not to mention that I am dealing with some health issues of my own in both the mind and body. Yay me.

Softening the Reaper [Jax Teller]

Unbeknownst to you, Jax was awake, but he kept his eyes shut so he could continue revelling in your soft touch. He was still in this blissful, half-asleep state where his mind was peacefully empty but he could still process your warm fingertips running over the bare skin of his back. Occasionally your nails would make an appearance and send a calming sensation down his spine that trickled throughout his entire nervous system. He was taking a break from the urgency of picking between fight or flight. Although you couldn’t see his face because it was lying on your chest, Jax was fighting back a smile when he felt you tracing out the letters tattooed onto his upper back and the top half of the reaper.

Last night had been a rough one for him. Club business had gotten out of hand and tensions were running high throughout all of the members. The second he collapsed into bed in the early hours of the morning, you woke up and without a sound, turned over onto your back so Jax could wrap an arm around your waist and let his heavy head finally rest. Sleep found Jax as he felt all the tension of the day seep out of him when he was finally in your arms. Your touch was always gentle and it threw Jax for a loop because he was used to rough groping, grasping and clutching. He forgot how a gliding touch could make his skin erupt in goosebumps faster than any heavy handed motion could.

Your hand left the skin of his back and disappointment evicted the ease in his muscles. However, your touch returned to his cheek, cupping it before your thumb ran back and forth across the expanse. It ruffled his beard slightly but Jax’s eyes were getting heavier and he couldn’t find it in him to care. Jax took in a deep breath and let it expand him like a balloon before he let it out in a steady stream. His groggy mind almost convinced him that all this time he’d been living in the dream realm. For years, the same skin you were soothing was the target for a lot of the women in his life. Jax had been on the receiving end of many slaps from Tara, Gemma, and other women that he had pissed off in one way or another.

You never raised a hand at him, not even in your worst fights. The only way your hand was this close to his face was during times like this. Your touch was enough to eradicate years and years of hurt, not just topically, but internally. Jax remembered the first time you did this. It came after an accumulation of underlying tension with Clay, pressure about what to do with the information in his father’s manuscript, and regular everyday business. He had come home and let his body collapse onto the couch so he could finally rest his body the only way he knew how. It was okay, his legs and back got some tension eased off of them, but it returned when he stood up again. However, you came over and sat next to him and that’s when everything changed. You grabbed his hand and he was okay with that, but you sat closer and began to caress his face and pull him into your arms as you lay back on the couch.

All of this was so foreign to Jax and he resisted your touch because he felt childish being coddled like that. He didn’t know what to do with it, but you were persistent because you knew more than him that he needed this. When he settled in your arms, Jax decided it was kind of alright. You didn’t force him to talk, you didn’t ask to know about club business, you just supported him and took his mind off of it for a while. When your hands began moving and soothing his body, he realized he never knew bliss quite like this. He was sort of dreading coming home in a bad mood because he thought you might try to get him to talk it out with you. Jax could barely form a coherent sentence in his head because he was so mentally exhausted so he couldn’t fathom doing it out loud to you, another person he had to protect from all of this. You didn’t ask though, not when he could barely keep his eyes open or make it to the bedroom to rest.

His forehead that was always scrunched up with tension, worry, and anger unwound under the gentle coaxing of your thumb. All of this was enough to put Jax to sleep again, but the sunlight was streaming in through the window and trying to penetrate his eyelids and sleep was slowly disentangling from him to make way for another form of bliss: you. Jax wasn’t ready to get up and get back into the whirlwind that the club brought with it. He spent so much of his life on the defensive, constantly looking over his shoulder, tense with worry, stress, and agitation and it was starting to get old.

When dread was becoming apparent and flashbacks to all the fighting within the club that occurred last night flashed through Jax’s mind, your hand slid up through his hair and brushed it back with your nails to softly coax him awake, effectively quieting his mind. Jax indulged in the feeling and let out a heavy sigh of relief as his body sunk further against yours. His sigh would’ve been accompanied by a groan if his voice wasn’t thick with sleep. Still, you breathed out a laugh at his reaction, your chest rising and falling quickly, and it made Jax smile too, partially because he was picturing your smile and because he was so high on the tranquility flowing through his veins like a river. You leaned down and pressed a kiss onto the top of his head and Jax decided his act was up, so he wrapped his arm tighter around your waist to pull your closer to him.

Opening his eyes was easier than it had ever been despite the sunlight coming in through the window. He felt rejuvenated, although he still wanted to lay in bed with you for the entirety of the day. Your touch was a bit heavier now as you used your whole hand to rub up and down his back in languid motions. The warmth of your palm spread through Jax’s body and was effective in combatting the cooler air in the room. He let his thumb run up and down your bare waist that was peeking out from between your pyjama top and bottoms and his smile grew as he felt goosebumps raise in the wake of his touch.

Your touches communicated for the two of you: his thumb caressing your waist let you know that he was working his way into consciousness and your touch was offering him the help he needed to do that. It was still early so Abel was still asleep and not running into the room yelling and jumping onto the bed and neither of you had to rush off anywhere yet. Even if either of you did, you always took the time to coax Jax out of sleep instead of forcing him out of it like a drill sergeant. Jax finally understood what people meant when they described the morning as peaceful. Ever since he joined the club, Jax had lost that peace, but you brought it back. Upon realizing that, Jax finally spoke, saying, “No one’s ever done that before.”
