It really seems like you think James would jave just been Jake+, is this true or do you think Jake has any qualities that put him over Jamea?
It's complicated, because comparing Jake to James is always going to be comparing apples to oranges. Jake has a wealth of experience, the trust of his team, willingness to please authorities, military expertise, and a personal stake in the final battle. James has idealism, no need for his friends' approval, willingness to piss off authorities, fresh energy, and an original perspective on the final battle. They work best when they work together.
However, if Jake's plan in #53 - #54 hadn't worked, then I think command might have shifted to James. By #53, Jake is openly fed up with leadership and has burned the goodwill of most of his allies (Erek, the YPM, the Auximorphs). Jake still has people in his corner, most notably Eva and Toby, but he can't keep his own Animorphs from in-fighting and nearly comes to blows with his aunt. Everyone knows that Jake's goals for the war — save Tom, protect his team, save the world, in that order — are slipping out of his grasp.
By contrast, James is a lot more idealistic and still has his eye on the ball. Unlike Jake, James isn't naïve before the war and doesn't expect to escape with everyone's lives. In spite of a lifetime's abandonment and abuse and ableism, James loves humanity and thinks that there is hope for this imperfect little species. Jake thinks everything's going to turn out okay because everything always has so far. James knows that kids die all the time — he's watched friends die, knows he'll be watching Kelly and Pedro within a few years — but James will face God and roll backwards into hell because he can still control what he does with this crapsack life he was born into.
So James and Jake have a lot in common, in that they love their friends and would personally fistfight Crayak over the tiniest excuse. They have ironclad belief in the basic goodness of people, and a refusal to admit when they're beat. But Jake's hope for humanity is precious and delicate as gold, while James's is as fire-forged and relentless as diamond.

He’d not lied to Lily, saw no point to lies most of the time. He did think she was beautiful, and James too, and Remus and Barty and Pandora. He thought Evan was beautiful as well, and Wilhelmina Lavrentyeva, with the curls so prominent in her hair that he could feel them when she let him muddle through braiding it, and Jisoo Cho in Hufflepuff, with her carrying, cackling laughter. He thought plenty of people were beautiful, once he knew them well enough to decide they were.
He didn’t… have any frame of reference, any more, for what other people classified as ‘beautiful’. Regulus was reasonably sure his mother had been thought to be so, but the only lasting image of her that he could conjure up was that final one, with her brow scrunched and her mouth twisted into a sneer.
But with Lily and James it was also different.
James, once Regulus had managed to move past his defensive anger at the other boy stealing Sirius from him, had been the first person Regulus had ever thought of as beautiful. His laughter was hiccuping and helpless, and he leaned all of his weight against Regulus when he talked to him, and his gait was bouncing, ever so slightly, unmistakable whenever he walked toward him. His palms were stocky and square, and rough with callous, and he smelled like broom polish. He was beautiful, in the way hope was beautiful. In the way steady, soothing things were beautiful.
Lily was beautiful in the way Regulus imagined forest fires were. It was impossible not to know that Lily Evans was beautiful. To know her was to be consumed, or devoured, or- overwhelmed, he supposed, like getting caught in a riptide. Words didn’t do her justice. She took Regulus’ hands in hers when he made her blush and held his fingers to her cheeks so he could feel the warmth of it. Her hair smelled like lavender, and when she was annoyed she clicked her tongue against the backs of her teeth, and she hummed under her breath when she wrote her essays.
Much as Regulus could - and did - judge the way he’d gone about it, he couldn’t judge James for how infatuated with her he always had been. Really, the greatest mystery to Regulus was that it was taking her so long to feel the same way in return.

for the sad hc- his biggest fear was not being able to do anything about his loved ones hurting or dying. always in constant worry about them, which only dramatically increased as both his parents died, then regulus, then marlene, then dorcas. everyone was dying and everyone else was sad and pissed and hurting and he was helpless to stop it all. his death brought the tinest bit of relief because at least he wouldn't have to see another friend die, to go to another loved ones funeral and expect to still walk out of there and get on with life. it was the tiniest bit of relief that flashed in his mind just before the spell hit and his heart stopped.
for the appearance hc- very very messy black hair which he likes to put coloured hair clips in, thick eyebrows, a fairly muscular build and height roughly 6'1, he doesn't jave any piercings or tattoos but does like those temporary ones and would get like glittery unicorns or whatever all the time, in his school uniform he wears trainers or converse, black suit trousers or sometimes brown flares, school shirt and the tie loose, but does try to wear his quidditch gear to lessons all the time, not in school uniform is usually patterned shirts or crop tops, tight flares, corduroy jackets or quidditch merch.

ok I'm keeping all my my infinity pool rewatch thoughts to one post this time SOOOO god at its core it really is all about power. a second watch is NECESSARY there's so much foreshadowing & shit that just hits different when you Know things. like the husband in the scene w the sausages "we're fattening you up for dinner" when you KNOW how they make james their plaything AAAAAA. & the shot when they arrive at the beach where you see their shiny new car & the destroyed old ones in the background when they park. so fucking good & so easy to not really notice the first time around.
& it's so interesting to focus on gabi when you know what she's reay up to like it's clear from the very beginning that she's seducing James but when you know the MOTIVATION behind it god. it's so much more predatory. like the scene where they have james attacking 'the detective' hes circling around him like a predator stalking their prey & everyone else is standing around watching EXCEPT gabi who is circling around james. she's the real predator all along!! & then she pulls the hood off eyes trained on james to watch his reaction I didn't notice the first time but she does NOT blink even once. insane!!!!
there's also much to be said about masculinity and strength & what gabi and James's ideas of those concepts are but that's like. an essay topic I'll have to save for a later day when I can watch at home and get super analytical. but it is fucking fascinating
also the cherry spitting scene at breakfast.... undeniable shitty douchebag frat boy kind of sex appeal to the whole thing. like the MEDAL on display like that. and knowing that gabi & the rest aren't laughing with him like you think at first. also have to wonder since even tho their intention was always to fuck with James and laugh at him it seems like killing the dog was an initiation which he passed (yknow the breastfeeding the 'hope to see you next year'l so like. do you think their group ever took in one of their "sucky babies" or do you think they all failed or worse.
oh and ALSO was the toe sucking cut out of the r version or something??? bcus I definitely didn't notice it the first time but then Alex mentioned it in that one interview & I was like wait fr??? I'll jave to keep my eyes peeled for it this time wtf. but I still did NOT see that happen. maybe it was just obscured by all the insane hallucinatory lighting & all that.
OH YEAH one more thing definitely interesting to watch again knowing behind the scenes stuff like I've always known Brandon says he tends to put some of himself into his characters bcus of an antiviral interview about syd & the egg salad and its sooooo interesting to think about how that applies to James w the timing of writing and all.

Shaan," released on December 12, 1980, is a Hindi action crime movie. It was directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by G. P. Sippy. The story was written by Salim-Javed, who were also behind the hit "Sholay." The film stars Sunil Dutt, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Raakhee Gulzar, Parveen Babi, Bindiya Goswami, Johnny Walker, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. R. D. Burman composed the music, which was well-received.
At first, "Shaan" was not a big hit, but it did better later on. It features some of the last songs sung by Mohammed Rafi. The villain, Shakaal, was based on a character from the James Bond movies. The film was shot by S. M. Anwar, edited by M. S. Shinde, and the lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi.
