Lily wrings her hands, ignores her urge to hide in the back of the crowd. At that moment, he opens his eyes and looks down at the scene before him. She might have been invisible to the men who guard the scaffold, but not to him. Her hair makes her stand out in any crowd and she knows he has seen her when his eyes lock with hers. A horrible thought pops in her head, what if he thinks she's here to enjoy this, that she wants to see him hang? That makes her feel even worse, she wants him to think well of her.

To her relief, he does not look at her with reproach or disapproval. Instead, he looks at her as if she’s the one who needs comforting. He smiles at her. 

Lily didn't think she could feel worse, but she does. 

A hush runs through the mass of people and she knows the priest and the executioner must be on their way.

January Of Joy

Starting a new year is often a mix of emotions. Plenty of talk of projects and hopes, but they can feel unattainable and lofty, and looking back on the past year can bring disillusionment.

Well, I'm starting a project that aims to start the year off on a joyous note. I am beginning my #JanuaryOfJoy

It's a simple idea: Every day in January (for as long as have songs), I share a song that either brings me joy, feels joyful, or that I somehow associate with happiness. And I get to share cool music with others.

As an extra challenge, every song will be from a different musical artist!

I will be posting a YouTube link to every song, and do my best to talk a bit about why I feel each song is part of this collection.

I do not have 31 ready just yet, but having 15 prepared is good enough to start with.

Also, people are free (and encouraged!) to do their own version of this project.

01: "Since I Left You" by The Avalanches www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3YR... An odd choice to begin, since this song sounds so bittersweet, but it is the one that inspired this idea. To me, it represents finding happiness and good spirits after losing people and experiences that were once so meaningful.

I got potential news (not happy, but I mean not sad). Latest justice in the dark (rumor) updates: was taken down due to legal issues (likely copyright) and they do plan to re air from the beginning at a later date once issue is taken care of and cdrama airing timing is right. Rumor is actors were requested to rake down their farewell letters. Meaning... the show is back in hiatus. Like the past several months. Except now the 8 episodes can only be watched on unofficial sites in the meantime.

Schrodingers cat isn't probably the right comparison but like. It's the potentially perpetual unknown status show. ToT

Anyway I saw 2 posts on weibo which were rumor only, mentioning airing later, and one post on weibo mentioning the reason for taking the show off was copyright issues.

On mydramalist comments someone mentioned a Twitter thread on why it was taken down, but I can't see shit on Twitter right now so im just going by what the comment said. The Twitter thing they quoted: Cao5903 (@cao5903) Staff Youku said: "Due to some unexpected reasons that could not be controlled in time, we had to take down #JusticeInTheDark to handle it. Wait for it to be okay and then replay it from the beginning."

WHATS UR FAVORITE RYOMINA MOMENT FROM THE MOVIES I NEED TO KNOW!!!

HI FELIX!! thank you for the ask i am always happy to take more opportunities to talk about ryomina they are so special to me o7

it is VERY tempting for me to answer, "every fucking time ryoji showed up on screen!" ok this might be an exaggeration, i like 90% of his screentime, december 2nd ryoji should've been portrayed more like a pathetic wet dog imo but i digress. but hm... favorite moment.

while the helper's club montage has a very strong place in my heart (it permeated my braincells without my permission)!! i think my favorite part of ryomina's portrayal in the movies is the whole sentence finishing thing they got going on. i feel like that's a cop out answer but like.

there is something so so gut wrenching to me about how they start off by making it so that ryoji is the one finishing minato's sentences. always ryoji. BUT THEN!!! when they meet again at the top of tartarus to do battle on judgment day!! they turn it on it's head!! and it's minato!! who finishes the sentence!! and fuck man does it make me feel like i'm being kicked down a staircase.

and to have the sentence finishing happen again for such an important day?? god idk im gonna tear up and someone needs to like. give me like. a chew toy or something this makes me so fucking insane (blows up) (blows up).

so basically my favorite moment is really like, january 31st, but a lot of my attachment to it is BECAUSE they have that set-up in november with ryoji being the silliest fucking guy to have ever walked at gekkoukan. and oh man oh man the fucking. THE. when. WHEN THEY FOLLOW IT UP WITH MINATO SUMMONING THANATOS AFTER THIS?? yeah man. that's the fucking shit.

like i don't think the english language is enough to convey how much i love the artistic choice to have the flash frame of ryoji when minato summons thanatos. it's the hesitation and rebellion babey!!! the whole scene afterwards is so fucking juicy as well.

honorable mention to when ryoji jumped off the fucking roof at iwatodai station to tell minato that he has kindness in his eyes and that he doesn't like seeing him alone. what kind of guy does that. that's so fucking hilarious to me like actually. he was insane for that.

anyway that is my answer i HOPE u enjoyed reading it, god, ryomina still makes me eyes watery (it's been almost 2 years since i've met them??? what the fuck). i feel like others have echoed this sentiment before but nevertheless i was super happy to type it out :D

made up by sarcangel - josh manson/kurtis macdermid, colorado avalanche. you ever read a summary and go there's no fuckin way the author pulls this off....and then they do??? hoo boy i read the summary for this and if i weren't bored out of my mind waiting for my cookies to freeze, i would not have taken a chance on it. BUT I DID! AND I'M SO GLAD I DID BECAUSE IT WAS SO FUN!! what if josh manson was a secret cosplay tiktoker of geralt from the witcher and what if kurtis macdermid found josh manson's secret cosplay tiktok and he had to just suffer in lustful silence in the avs locker room knowing josh manson had a secret witcher cosplay tiktok and is really hot. does this sound deranged? yes it does. but the author pulls the concept off with such charm and joy and with such an obvious love and care for these players, i was captivated the whole way through and left my cookies longer in the freezer than i was supposed (the cookies were fine.)

maybe so (and maybe not) by sarcangel - matt nieto/alex newhook, colorado avalanche. friends and enemies and lovers, i fear not all of you appreciate matt nieto as much as you should, but thank god for alex newhook bc he does!! chris macfarland you will not see heaven. anyway this is a wonderful slice of life that is tagged pwp but it's actually more like....early twenties career anxiety with porn. what if i was on an entry level contract struggling emotionally, psychologically, sexually, and you were matt nieto. what then. the sexual pay off for newy's emotional agonies is so good - often when a fic is like, 80% feelings ending at 20% porn i just end up really dissatisfied because it never feels like a logical conclusion. but this was just pitch perfect right up until the end, the smut felt earned and moved the emotional arc forward. i would also like to add that i was forcibly reminded in this fic that nieto had a mustache but it was unfortunately terribly erotic for me. oh wow.

NOTE BEFORE THESE NEXT TWO RECS: i am fully planning to do a @theresonly1u rec list specifically now that i'm finally nutting up and reading so many of them, and now that eleven people explicitly and/or tacitly gave me permission to holler. but while i work on that, here are two recs from that fest that got me howling this week

My enemy, please stay close to me by planesandtrainingwheels, igor shesterkin/ilya sorokin, new york rangers & new york islanders. while i abstractly understand the circumstances around why fandom is so fucking weird about russian players besides ovi and geno, i think that's an incredible stupid bias FOR AMERICANS SPECIFICALLY bc i swear to god if these guys were canadian white boys, there'd be skywriting. anyway this fic whips ass, it makes wonderfully economic use of the constraints of the challenge while still managing to add perfect color and life to the scenes...it's a very fun take on red string of fate and soulmates and i just had an absolute blast thinking about two people tying themselves together because they're competitive teenage morons and then fall in love about it. it's soooo good

sign by frausorge, thomas bordeleau/william eklund, san jose barracuda. i initially had a rule for myself that i wasn't going to rec fic by personal friends and mutuals but i decided to break that just for the 1u recs bc so many mutuals participated. also because i need to start discourse: i truly believe the only people who understand the san jose barracuda on a soul level are trans people. case in point - this drabble that captures past/present/future anxieties and possibilities that spin out in front of you when someone makes an off-hand comment and someone else decides to be brave (NOT in the way you think!!) it's a perfectly and expertly executed 100 word moment that had me both so tense and emosh that i read the last sentence and had to go stare at a bowl of spaghetti about it. would i read 20k of this, yeah??? but i'm also so thoroughly satisfied by knowing it's a small moment that opens up two very beautiful lives to so many different futures. i love thinking about all the ways it could end. when william eklund makes the sharks opening night roster and i sit in the stands and have feelings disproportionate to the situation, know that it is because of this fic.
