PSA/FAQ: The Kybalion is Not a Hermetic Text
Whether you love me or hate me for my routine reminders that The Kybalion isn’t a Hermetic text (as I’ve said abundantly both on my blog, witter, Reddit, and elsewhere), I beg your patience for my making yet another post about it.  Hopefully, this will be the post-to-end-all-posts about the subject for me, since not only do I want to supersede my other post I made about it some time ago (which I…

"In at least one instance Kelly, after a night of drinking, threatens to cut off the head of the Polish Lord Laski’s, their host, servant Alexander. After a momentary apology, Kelly finds out that Alexander spoke ill of him, and seeks to attack him with a rapier in the street. It takes Dee and two other men to stop Kelly, now sobered up, from killing the man."

Okay I wanna hear your recs for when you just wanna get lost in another world!
xoxo MJ/kiwiana-writes
Oh hey, @kiwiana-writes! These are multifandom, because there are so many good fics out there in so many fandoms that just provide such good escapism catalysts! They're also, to nobody's surprise, all epic AUs. (And also, hopefully you're not surprised that one of your fics is on the list. 💕)
RWRB: Where the Spirit Meets the Bones by milowren [WIP; Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor, E, 48.7k words] I rarely, rarely start WIPs; this AU is one of few exceptions. Alex's mom buys a Victorian era mansion after the end of her second Presidential term. Part murder-mystery, part romance, part modern magic, all fantastic.
RWRB: A Practical Arrangement by you!! (kiwiana!!) [Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor, E, 19.8k words] I'm fairly certain that I yelled at you over multiple platforms when I got to the end of the first chapter of this arranged marriage AU... Henry and Alex have been betrothed for three years, and the big day has finally arrived. Just... a phenomenal story.
RWRB: But I love him, whether or no. by @leaves-of-laurelin [Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor, E, 77.1k words] Henry moves to NYC to help Pez open a bar. He falls in love with firefighter Alex, who works at the fire station right across the street. Super great friends-to-lovers AU. RWRB: All the Old Showstoppers by @cha-melodius [Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor, E, 20k words] This was one of the AUs that really stood out to me when I first started my deep dive into reading fic in this fandom. Alex skips the royal wedding, and three years later he and Henry meet as competitors on The Great Celebrity Bake Off. Delicious.
Five more multifandom recs under the jump; ask me more sleepover weekend stuff!
MCU: A Story We Must Tell by AHM1121 and MissyRivers [Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes, E, 166.2k words] An epic AU in which ex-military author James Barnes and ex-military lumberjack/fisherman Steve Rogers meet and fall in love. This one took me a couple days to read, and I'm glad I took my time because it's beautiful.
Boyband RPF: The Way You Know Him by Kaelie and Bethann [JC Chasez/Justin Timberlake, M, 191.2k words] This is boyband RPF, but it's so AU that you'll have to squint to recognize the pop stars' personalities. Justin is new to a publishing house, and JC is on the board. I remember when this was first being published, I waited with bated breath every month for The Way You Know Him Day because I loved it so, so much. That has not changed.
Star Trek: Take Refuge in What You Know by CorpusInvictus [James T. Kirk/Spock, E, 120.3k words] Kirk is new to his apartment building and wants to get to know his neighbors. He meets his neighbor, Spock, a loner who suffers from extreme agoraphobia. Kirk thinks he's a beautiful enigma. This one will hurt your heart in the best way. Mind the tags, though.
The Pacific: The History Books Forgot About Us (And The Bible Didn't Mention Us) by callmejude [Mariell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge, E, 116.9k words] A canon (history?)-divergent AU in which Eugene and Snafu bond in a different way after one of their squadmates is shot.
Smallville: Family Portrait by tzigane and zaganthi [Clark Kent/Lex Luthor, E, 130.6k words] An AU in which Lex Luthor is orphaned at a young age, and his mother's will stipulates that she wishes for Martha and Jonathan Kent to become his guardians. Slow, slow burn.

hey just really quick because im seeing this happen across multiple blogs i follow.
as a satanist and as a fan of Helluva Boss, please don't go into actual religious (theistic and atheistic) satanist blogs, or artists who make references to demons assuming they're into the show.
i love Stolas the character as much as the rest of yall but please don't conflate him with the demon of the real world Lesser Key of Solomon/Ars Goetia. it's incredibly insulting and annoying and honestly you have no idea how gentle and polite people are being in asking you to stop.
as someone who likes the show and the characters if someone asked me if the Vivziepop Lucifer and Asmodeus are the versions i worship, or assumed my religious blog is a fan blog i would be ready to rip out your goddamn throat at the assumption.
yeah, characters like Blitz and Stella are OCs. but a lot of the big guys are based on *actual demons that people like me look to for guidance. please take a step back before jumping into ask boxes asking if people are fans because they post "content" of your favorite blorbo on there.
*actual as in they have existed in literature for a lot longer than vivzie's shows. belief in their literal existence varies from person to person.
even as a writer that writes horny stories about demons and plans to include some of the big guys, not only are they going to be my personal interpretation, but they will also be completely fictional as they interact with my OCs. the versions in my own stories will be based on and not literal depictions of my personal interpretations of demons i worship. me including Lucifer does not automatically put my work in the Hazbin Hotel universe any more than someone with an online altar is a fan blog to my version of him.
if you're at all interested in the history of the demons these characters are based on, multiple PDF versions of the Ars Goetia as well as the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum are available online for free, and Dr. James Justin Sledge has some wonderful videos on the histories of these and other books, as well as the history of demonology in general on his youtube channel, Esoterica, that i highly recommend.
if you want something a little less daunting here's a link to a list of theological demons so you can learn about where your blorbo comes from.
i'm not going to tag this because i don't want to be immediately nuked by the toxic fandom, but i will leave reblogs on for this to spread in my little sphere of influence. please be civil in the replies and my ask box.

Currently reading: @eyeofpsyche recommended some books about Jung (Jung - The Key Ideas by Ruth Snowden and The Essential Jung by John Beebe but lately i've been swamped with work + school. earlier this year i was reading Big Dead Place because Antarctica is strange and miserable and Malleus Maleficarum to better understand a Euro-medieval/early modern notion of the supernatural. i skimmed through a bunch of Ekirch's At Day's Close - Night in Times Past for a course over the summer
Sweet/spicy/savory: food isn't really a thing for me. ask me when i have more money
Relationship status: the person i talk to the most online is someone that i don't even use words with
Current obsessions: i had a week where i was looking at weird things to do with Windows 3 and trying out linux distros in a virtual machine
Last googled: i was trying to find a magazine cover from the early/mid 90s that depicted a man wearing unusual shoes in a photo-realistic style and it was intended to illustrate how developments in digital image manipulation had made the notion of "the camera never lies" obsolete
Currently working on: lab report busywork for a microbio course, or i spent nearly all day setting up a biochemistry lab which involved making a lot of 1% solutions of a variety of amino acids
anyone that follows me that wants to do this feel free to have a go at it

If you’re interested in the history of Britain, occultlore, the witch trials, or just works in Original Pronunciation, here’s a theatrical production of James I &VI’s Demonologie by Atun-Shei Films. I just finished it and think it’s amazing; it’s very barebones, just a dialogue in a dark set, but that simplicity really FOCUSES the performance, and (in my case)the Audience on the Sheer Horror hiding beneath James’s words. Behind this one-sided, challengeless “dialogue” lie the brutal torture and unjust execution of thousands; the victims of early-modern Christian paranoia.
EDIT: OH! Also Dr. Justin Sledge of ESOTERICA does a introduction for this film, and I really can’t recommend his channel enough. I’ve mentioned it once(or maybe twice?) on here before but it’s just such a wonderful resource for anyone interested in occult, esoteric, and religious lore, and the history thereof ^v^ ^v^ ^v^

An Origin Story.
I'm maybe about halfway through Tim Hitchcock's English Sexualities, 1700-1800 which is not a terribly long book, and I've already bookmarked about 36 citations I intend to follow up on after I finish reading. So begins the journey. The pandemic has done strange things to all of us. Besides a heinous case of long COVID that left me on the couch for a year, family crises, and now an uncertain future in terms of where I'll be living next... it also brought me one hell of a Youtube habit. I'd already been a Buzzfeed Unsolved fan, but when that ran out I branched out into true crime more generally (don't worry I'm also watching Watcher, and yes Ghost Files rules). From there I branched out into aviation and engineering disasters, then into more general weird creepy real-life shit and internet lore. Internet lore somehow led me to mythical and religious lore, and from there I ended up finding Dr. Justin Sledge and Esoterica (if you like learning about the history of mysticism and the occult, you need to subscribe to his channel RIGHT NOW it's so dope). Dr. Sledge collaborated with Atun-Shei on a film adaptation of King James' Daemonologie and when I watched it, I realized I needed to binge everything on this dude's channel. Something about Andy's work is just so deeply, unapologetically, inspiringly weird. Not sure how this works, but I think it broke the seal on some kind of cursed artifact in my brain. And THEN I found his collabs with Brandon F.—which, in addition to the joys of ho-yay have also rekindled my childhood love for the material culture of the 18th century.
I was a strange child growing up (FFS I'm on Tumblr, of course I was a strange child growing up...). Being neurodivergent, queer, and not-especially-binary in a conservative household meant I learned early on to shut up about who I was and what I liked as a matter of survival. Something about the excessive, sensual aesthetic of 18th century Europe calls to a lot of people, clearly, but oh boy did it call to me back then when I was suffocating under the weight of my parents' hopelessly unrealistic, hopelessly boring expectations.
I've heard people talk about the fear/awe-to-kink and comfort-to-kink pipelines, and I think it was a bit of both for me. I got really engrossed in reading about the AWI during elementary school and the images of the Founding Fathers and the Redcoats somehow got lodged in my brain a little sideways. Inevitably, you get a little older and more capable of comprehending how much war sucks and how many sins these countries have to answer for, and FFS why are we being loaded up with a bunch of bullshit propaganda instead of the far more sobering and relevant actual history, etc. But I'm still just fascinated by the 18th century and especially by what we don't talk about when it comes to that time period. What sorts of fascinating and queer possibilities did later generations try to retcon out of their own culture? What sorts of narratives have we missed out on?
What I'm trying to say is that watching Brandon F. and friends do a takedown of Jimchi's Redcoat ASMR video brought up a whole bunch of feels and it sent me on a quest to understand myself better. That's really it.

Two small updates: an interview with "Way of Hermes" and a Discord event with some big names!
It’s been a quiet time around here, hasn’t it?  I admit, it’s been quiet all around generally for me.  I’m just keeping up with things on my end as the seasons turn from hot to cold, and I hope you and yours are doing well on your end, dear reader.  Still, besides the usual happenings over on the Hermetic House of Life (HHoL) Discord server and keeping up with leading the weekly Hermetica…

Karen Lorene Godshall Hicks passed into eternity on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. She was born May 22, 1949, in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. At the time of her passing, she resided in Justin, TX.
Psalm 37:23 declares that a person's steps are "ordered by the Lord." Certainly, this was true of her well-spent 72 years.
Karen grew up in Telford, PA. In grade and middle school, she won numerous singing and athletic events, as well as competing on the Souderton Swim and Diving Team. As a Souderton High School beauty, she was especially known for her sewing and cooking prowess. She received her high school's Crisco Award for Outstanding Student in Home Economics, the Junior Women's Clothing Contest Winner, and Membership on the prestigious McCall's Magazine National Sorority of the Teen Fashion Board. She graduated with honors in 1967.
She attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, from 1967 to 1971, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education and a minor in science. While there she met Darryl Hicks, a student from Oklahoma (He has often said, "We met in a psychology class. She made an A+, and I made a C, which pretty much explains a lot!) They married in Sellersville, PA, on August 14, 1971.
During the next years, Karen and Darryl taught school (Big Oak Christian Academy near Biscoe, NC; and Temple Christian School in Rockingham, NC). For eight years she was a featured singer with The Servants and The Darryl Hicks Trio, touring extensively across the United States, recording four albums, and featured in churches, auditoriums, music festivals and national television programs. They appeared in concert with numerous major artists. Three songs featuring her solos hit numerous regional and national radio charts, and were featured in The Singing News (Southern Gospel music's equivalent of Billboard Magazine).
When they moved to Charlotte, NC, Karen continued teaching at Heritage Academy near Fort Mill, SC, while Darryl began a new career as author and television writer/producer. She also attended Winthrop University Graduate School in Rock Hill, SC.
Major changes came when the couple started a family with the arrival of daughter Charnee and son David. Eventual career moves to High Point, NC, Galveston, TX and the DFW area of Texas saw the family tree flourish with seven grandchildren. Karen's teaching career continued in Texas until she retired in 2004 to travel with Darryl and to enjoy her children, grandchildren, cats and original jewelry designs.
From 1983-2018 she served as an advisor and contributor on a variety of nutrition and recipe books for noted authors and publishers, and from 2010-2020 she hosted Karen's Kitchen, a popular internet recipe and back-story feature.
She was known in jewelry, fashion and shopping circles as "The Purple Lady" for her stylish fondness for wearing clothing and accessories in that color.
For several years she also enjoyed being a member of two Red Hat Society chapters and was immortalized in the song, "Red Hat Woman," performed at the society's 2009 international convention in Dallas, Texas.
During 2021, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Karen is predeceased by her mother, Mary (Nase) Allebach, her father, Harold Allebach, her maternal grandparents, Herbert and Olivia (Price) Nase, paternal grandparents, Ellis and Mabel (Schurr) Godshall, and parents-in-law Gifford and Mabel (Sledge) Hicks.
Left to carry forward her notable legacy are her husband of 50 years, Darryl Hicks, daughter Charnee (James) Barker, son David Hicks, sister and brother-in-law Sharon (Sheri) and Michael Curry, seven grandchildren -- Daniel Hicks, Richard Bennington, Adam Hooper, Kevin Hooper, Taylor Moreno, Dylan Hicks, and Jacob Hicks, as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Psalm 116:15 declares, "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." Certainly this is now true for Karen Lorene Godshall Hicks as the celebration of her home-going continues among the golden mansions and the heavenly throne room, the inheritance of every believer, to which Karen looked forward many times as she read or heard John 14.
And while her family mourns the unthinkable loss of this remarkable, talented and beloved woman, we also celebrate her reunion in heaven with the Lord Jesus whom she served so faithfully, even as we cherish her memory and strive to fulfill the noteworthy heritage she left us to follow!
A Celebration of Karen's Life will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the First Baptist Church Youth-Fellowship Hall, 101 South Highway TX-156, Ponder, TX 76259. Dress is casual., but you are welcome to wear something purple as a tribute to the Karen's favorite color. A lunch buffet will be provided beginning at Noon, with the memorial to take place afterward. A time of dessert, coffee, tea and fellowship will follow the service. To allow the family to prepare for food and seating, please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to attend (and how many will be in your party). The response to your RSVP will include lodging options.

Corrections, Notes, and Sources:
Air misspoke when saying Pope John XXII’s declaration of witchcraft as heresy in 1320 took the form of a papal bull. Though the pope eventually described witchcraft and announced that anyone who engaged with it would be excommunicated in his 1336 papal bull Super illius specula, his initial 1320 judgment was outlined in Cardinal William of Santa Sabina’s “Letter of 22 August 1320, to Inquisitors of Carcassone and Toulouse”
In the episode, Air stated that Matthew Hopkins charged around £20 per town, in reference to how much he was reported to have charged the town of Stowmarket in A.G. Hollingsworth’s History of Stowmarket (1844). According to the records, he charged £23 plus traveling expenses. Hopkins himself, however,  stated that he only took “twenty shillings a town” (A History of Witchcraft In England from 1558 to 1718)
Please note that some of Air’s sources are primary documents, and tread carefully. There are a lot of hot stoves in this source list.

FAQ
Hi guys! This is just so that you don’t have to send in asks for everything when you want to know something about my blog!!
Do you take requests?
I do! My blurb requests are pretty much always open but my fic requests are open a lot less of the time, but the info for that will be in my bio :) also for requests I’ll only write them if they’re specific and not just like “Write some fluff please” because I have little imagination whoooo
Do you do tag lists?
The only tag lists I do are for individual series, I don’t do general ones for characters/actors as a whole and I also only accept tag requests in my inbox and if someone does not respond to loads of chapters of my fic then I will remove them bc upholding tag lists is hella hard work
What’s a tag list?
It’s a way of letting certain followers know that I’ve posted the next part of a series that I write
Whats your name/age/sexuality/pronouns/nationality?
I’m Courtney, I’m 17, I’m not straight and I’m still trying to work out what exactly I am, my pronouns are she/her and I am English!
Can I tag you in my writing?
Of course you can! Please, please tag me I love reading what you guys have written and I don’t read anywhere near enough as I used to
Why don’t you respond to work?
I do respond! However because this blog ( @writingfortoomanyfandoms ) is a side blog, I have to respond with my main ( @ijustreallylovezebras ) so that’s why that blog is constantly replying haha
Do you write smut?
I don’t! I’m sorry! If you request smut I will not write it, though if it’s embedded in part of a request then I will still do the request I will just not include smut :)
What does your tracked tag mean?
My tracked tag is usercourt and it basically means that whenever someone posts something under that tag I see it! I made it so that you can tag me in your work without tagging my blog directly bc I often don’t see it when that happens so by using a tracked tag I’m somewhat more likely to see your work (whether it be fics, art, playlists, moodboards or whatever) and that way I can reblog it onto my blog and try and get more recognition for your work if that makes sense! So please always feel free to tag your work with usercourt so that I can see it :)
