Everyone is talking about how Jace is Kit's closest living relative, but ...

...that's not true!

First of all, in general his closest living relative is the Seelie Queen and even if you don't count her because she's not exactly Shadowhunter friendly, it would be Ash, because he's basically Auraline's half-brother and the First Heir's influence into his family is more recent than the Herondales.

Even if you look just at the Shadowhunter side of his family, Kit's closest relative is not Jace. Why?

Well, firstly Jace is a descendant of James Herondale, who's sister Lucie probably gets married to Jesse Blackthorn and is therefore an ancestor of the current living Blackthorns. Which means that both Jace and the Blackthorn siblings have common relatives: James' and Lucie's parents Tessa and Will. Now here it would be important to know, if James' or Lucie's line has more generations between them and their current living descendants.

But the Blackthorn siblings and Kit are not only connected through the Herondale family, but because Kit's ancestors were Tobias Herondale and his wife, Eva Blackthorn, also through the the Blackthorn family. Which means that Kit's closest living Shadowhunter relatives are the Blackthorn siblings, not Jace.

And that means that Kit is more related to his own future boyfriend (Ty) than to the person he considers his cousin (Jace).

So it hit me that we will probably never see city of ashes as a movie and we will never see Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace again.
