New Manager

A/n: I haven't written for the HQ boys in a hot minute so I was sUper hyped for this! Thank you for the request, dear 💕

Nekoma

Nekoma has been manager-less for so long that literally the entire team was dumbfounded when they spotted you chilling next to Nekomata

Like hello??? Who are you and what are you doing in their gym???

There's a good few seconds of silence when Nekomata introduces you

Despite being cats, they greatly resembled their Fukurodani rivals as they blinked back at you with big curious eyes

That is until Yamamoto slumps to his knees and starts tearing up, blabbering on about how they've been blessed with a manager while a quiet Fukunaga pats his back in an almost humouring manner

Yamamoto's out burst is what loosens up the team and they start making their way to introduce themselves to you

The first is Kuroo, who approaches you with a welcoming smirk which was quickly followed by a gentle smile from Kai and a reassuring pat on the back from Yaku

The first years are VERY eager to meet you! Lev and Inouka are bouncing around you spewing out questions to the point where Yaku has to kick them both and send them off to warm up

Sweet Shibayama very nervously bows at you and thanks you for taking care of the team (what a baby 🤧💕)

The entire team absolutely loves you by the end of your first day (yes even the aloof creature that is Kenma, though he'll never admit it)

Nekoma's inner team dynamic is very familial and you're immediately sucked into the little family vibes they got going on

The first years love to be around you! (Specifically Lev bc you're not as mean to him as everyone else)

The first years are always volunteering to help you carry equipment or water bottles

You once caught one of the jokes Fukunaga muttered during practice so now the two of you bounce little puns and jokes off of eachother to see who can get the other to laugh first (he is currently winning. although, you got him to tear up from laughing so hard once which you've been counting as 10 wins)

The third years tend to mother hen you a bit, specifically Yaku and Kuroo

Kuroo made it very clear to you that you're apart of the team even if you don't play on the court, so as captain it's his job to make sure all his players are ok (mentally, physically, socially, you name it! He's always looking out for you and is basically your big brother)

You and Yaku bond over the fact that you're both the unofficial team moms. The two of you are very organized and have a whole ass check list that you BOTH go over at least twice before the team leaves for a game or training camp

Kai is like your calm in the storm that is Nekoma. The two of you have had numerous conversations about anything from books to cafés and he's always willing to lend an ear if you need to rant

Kenma is a fairly distant person but he warms up to you when he notices how caring you are. He even let's you play his DS on the train rides to and from Nekoma

Inarizaki

You're a brave soul if you are willingly becoming the manager of Inarizaki

Kita is actually the one who asked if you wanted to be the teams manager

He saw you cleaning the board in a classroom during lunch break and was impressed by how well of a job you did

It doesn't matter if you said yes out of fear from Kita's blank stare or because you were genuinely interested bc now you're standing in the volleyball gym, clad in Inarizaki's signature maroon tracksuit

The team notices you instantly, particularly a certain blonde Miya

Before Kita even got a chance to introduce you to everyone, Atsumu had wandered over to you with a lazy smile tugging at his lips

Atsumu introduced himself and then started asking what you were doing here

"Are ya lost?" "Ya here to admire me?" "Ya dating one of the players?"

You didn't get a chance to answer his questions as Osamu lovingly threw a Volleyball at Atsumu, cutting off any moment you had to respond

The only problem was that Atsumu noticed the volleyball rOcketing towards him and scrambled out of the way like a startled cat, leaving the ball to hit you instead of its intended target

The silence that hung over the gym was deafening as the younger team members watched Kita and Aran rush over to assist your now bloody nose

Just as quick as it had started, the silence was broken by Atsumu yelling at his brother for hitting a helpless person in the face and the gym quickly descended into madness

Aran held a towel to your nose and gave you a few encouraging pats on the back as the both of you watched Kita chew out the twins (safe to say Kita was hard on them during practice)

Osamu approached you during a water break to apologize and, to the surprise of the entire team, gave you the extra pudding he had as a peace offering

Since that incident Osamu and Atsumu stopped throwing volleyballs at each other's heads (at least when you were around that is)

The team is also surprisingly protective of you

The glares people get at tournaments if they try to flirt with you are terrifying

You become pretty close with Suna as the both of you tend to sit back and watch Atsumu and Osamu fight (you tried to step in once but they literally only respond to Kita so it didn't do much)

Suna also pats you on the head whenever he passes you

(it's something he does to his little sister to show some form of affection/appreciation and now he does it to you for the very same reasons)

This goes with out saying, but the twins love you

Osamu still feels bad about the whole hitting you in the face thing so he always shares any snacks he's got on him with you

Atsumu truly just likes being babied by you

Any ounce of praise or happy smiles directed at him has him acting like a puppy

(does 'Tsumu have a tiny crush on you? Yep he totally does!)

Kita and Aran are absolute sweethearts!! They are both very grateful for all the work you put in and treat you to boba every other week as a thank you :))

Seijoh

It was a new school year and you decided to push yourself out of your comfort zone a bit

What better way to do that then be a manager for a sports team!

Apparently one of your classmates let it slip that you were looking to be a manager for a sports team because you were approached by a very buff and very attractive guy a few days after asking if you'd be interested in helping the volleyball team

You happily agreed to do a trial day that afternoon, to which the player, who you now know as Iwaizumi-san, breathed a sigh of relief and said he'd pick you up after school to take you to the gym

So the school day is over, Iwaizumi meets you outside your classroom and you're off!

As you walk to the gym he fills you in on some of the tasks the manager would have to do

The job didn't sound that terrible so you were a bit confused as to why Iwaizumi was having such a hard time finding a manager

"Let's just say that the applicants were more interested in staring at our captain than the actual job." He had told you

Ok so first unofficial rule....don't stare at the Seijoh volleyball team's captain? A bit odd but who were you to judge, maybe the guy was shy and didn't like attention

Your thoughts were cut off by the crisp slap! Of a ball hitting the floor followed by a few short yells from the players littered across the court

Your attention was then caught by the sensation of someone draping their arm over your shoulders and a tangy apple smell invading your senses

"Oh? I didn't know you were dating someone, Iwa-chan~"

Iwaizumi shoved the brunette off of you and quickly explained that you were just here to test out being the manager for the day

The player's eyes lit up and he turned to you with a bubbly smile, introducing himself as Seijoh's captain, Oikawa Tooru

Ah, Captain.... Now you knew why they were having trouble finding someone who didn't stare

Your first day went fairly smooth, just a few blunders that were quickly forgotten by the team after Oikawa cheerfully told you: "Everyone has to start somewhere, (y/n)-chan!"

After the first week you had to admit that the Aoba Johsai volleyball team were quickly becoming some of your best friends, you all fit together like a dysfunctional family

Makki, Mattsun, and Iwa would always agree/praise you when you joined in one the daily Oikawa roast session

Oikawa (when he wasn't pouting about how "mean" you are to him) was fairly sweet to you

He spent the first month helping you learn the rules about volleyball and explaining the lingo the team often used during plays

Although, he does jokingly flirt with you about 40 thousand times a week so...

Kindaichi is a nervous wreak around you the first few weeks. Eventually his nervous demeanor melts away. Now he goes to you whenever he needs someone to toss the ball up for him so he can practice his spikes

Kunimi likes you simply because you let him get away with napping during water breaks

Kyotani acts like you annoy him but if anyone made you cry or hurt you in some way he would burn the entire gym down in a heartbeat

Did I mention that Seijoh are also very protective of you?

When at tournaments they travel in a small pack with you in the middle to reduce the chances of you getting hit on

Shiratorizawa

Shiratorizawa is a very nice and prestigious school so you thought why not participate in an extracurricular that would be beneficial for, not only your resume, but you yourself as well!

Out of all the clubs you chose volleyball which you're starting to regret a bit since one of your friends informed you that the team is a powerhouse school

Which means you can't make a bad impression or silly mistakes.....at all

That entire philosophy is thrown oUt the window on your second day as the official manager

You somehow managed to trip over your own feet and slam into a cart full of spare balls AND spill the water bottles you were carrying all over yourself

You were hoping that the team, by some miraculous reason, didn't notice but the stifled giggles from a certain red head said otherwise

You would give anything for the ground to just swallow you up and disappear forever

But then you saw a pair of gym shoes standing in front of you and when you looked up you were met with THE Ushijima Wakatoshi, captain and ace of shiratorizawa, offering you help to stand up

You hadn't seen Ushijima be more than a stoic and intimidating guy so you were even more surprised when he gave one of his spare shirts to change into now that you had spilt water on yourself

I guess you could say your little clumsy episode was what broke the ice for you and the team

Tendou loves talking with you

You're an interesting person to him and he finds great pleasure in teasing you (in his own words it's "out of love")

Ushijima ended up not being as intimidating as you originally pegged him to be. Instead, he was just a quiet guy who surprisingly could say some pretty funny things (whether or not he intended it to be funny)

Goshiki just loves you. Period.

You praise him and give him head pats so he couldn't be happier!

Tendou and Shirabu tease him all the time about how he has a case of puppy love for you (which Goshiki aggRessively denies no matter how red his face is)

Semi is someone who is grateful for your assistance with the team and does his very best to get Tendou out of your hair when you're trying to do your manager work. He also shares his headphones with you on long bus rides so you can listen to music together!

A Insomniac S/O who's always up when they are, functioning when they are. And always seems to carry eyebags despite hardly looking tired. But one night the boys accidentally wake up only to see there S/O on the balcony playing with there phone to pass the time before they take a 4 hour rest since there body is so used to it.

I'm an insomniac and it's a weird clock my body sticks to and even if I sleep for days on end I'm still tired.

You don't have to do this request but I love your work :)

Iwaizumi Hajime

~ He would have rolled over in your shared bed, his arm reaching to wrap around your waist before it just fell and slammed into the bed. He would sit up so confused and grumpy, a big ole pout on his lips as he groans and sits up.

~ Iwa would slowly roll out of bed, a frown settling on his face when he didn't see you in the bedroom or in the bathroom attached.

~ He would simply walk out and into the kitchen, seeing a single light flicked on by the fridge and a package of Oreos on the counter. He would walk over to it, looking for any indication of where you would be.

~ His attention would be grabbed by the sound sounds coming from the living room, where he saw the illumination of a phone light dancing around the room. His voice would scare you when he asked you to return to bed, and despite being totally awake and not tired, he would pull you in with the gravelly tone of his voice.

~ He would let you talk him to sleep, your soft words ringing in his head as he falls asleep to you. Iwa knows that you won't fall asleep for another few hours, but he would sleep better knowing that you are in his arms.

Kita Shinsuke

~ Kita would be on you the second you roll out of bed, but he would let you go, thinking you just need to use the restroom and that you'll be back. He would drift off back to sleep, and then wake up again around 4am, not knowing where you were.

~ He would lumber down the hallway, tugging a sweatshirt on because you weren't next to him. His eyes would immediately flick to the open window, his heart jumping a little at the thought of it being open.

~ Kita would relax when he sees your favorite chair outside though, and then he soon catches the lingering sounds of your favorite game. He would walk out slowly and say, "My love, you should be resting."

~ I think he would honestly scare the crap out of you, but not on purpose. You would clutch your phone tight to your chest, eyes wide as you turn to see a sleepy and cuddly-looking Kita behind you.

~ If his pull on you is strong enough (which it totally is), he will scoop you up in his arms, snuggling his face into your neck while you tap away at your phone. He will grab it from you, put it on charge, and then drag you off to sleep for real.

Sakusa Kiyoomi

~ This man is a light sleeper, so he would feel you shift around in the bed for a while before finally getting up, moving over to your balcony for some fresh air while grabbing your DS to play on.

~ You had been playing Animal Crossing for a few hours when Sakusa finally groaned and rolled over to your side, smushing his face against your pillow with a frown. He would grumble, "Why are you up? We should both be asleep."

~ You wouldn't look up from your game but would whisper. "I couldn't sleep and I need to finish weeding my town. I forgot to get on and now there are plants everywhere."

~ Sakusa would just groan and roll his eyes playfully as he blinks off his sleep. He would prop himself up on the headboard, and pat his now open thighs. "Well at least cuddle me while you play, I'm cold."

~ At his needy words, you would get up, and crawl into the bed. You would nestle into his chest and between his parted legs while continuing to play. Sakusa would watch you play for another half hour or so before telling you that you should rest, and you listen to him.

Haikyuu!! Sentence Starters #21-30

A collection of the Haikyuu sentence starters I've done, compiled for the sake of ease. These are all stand-alone stories.

21) Lee Iwa, Ler Hinata

“I’m not asking for…it,” Iwa muttered the last word under his breath, looking away.

Hinata hummed thoughtfully, grinning, taking a step closer. “Are you sure?”

Iwa didn’t usually get flustered, so this was a foreign sensation to him. Karasuno’s little redheaded decoy was getting under his skin in ways he didn’t expect and making him fight back with his words in ways he normally reserved for Oikawa. But it seemed as though Hinata was enjoying it, and if Iwa was honest with himself, he was enjoying it, too. This banter. This battle. This pushing against each other to see who would break first.

But now Hinata had pulled out his trump card, and Iwa suddenly felt cornered. “If I’m asking for it,” he finally managed, summoning a brief moment of confidence, “then what are you waiting for?”

Hinata beamed, throwing himself into Iwa’s arms for a giant hug from a little decoy. As soon as Iwa wrapped his arms around him in return, the redhead found purchase on his sides and dug in.

Iwa jerked and laughed, already regretting calling Hinata on his bluff, but there was nothing he could do about it now. He struggled for a moment before giving in to the urge to fall to his knees, and as soon as he was down, Hinata went all out, tickling him from head to toe, laughing along with him the entire time.

Iwa may have lost the battle, but he certainly felt like he’d won something that day.

22) Lee Oikawa, Ler Iwa

“Say it to my face!” Iwa snapped, getting right up in Oikawa’s personal bubble.

Oikawa smirked. “All right. I said, you suck at this.”

“It’s not my fault the branches are so dang high!” Iwa glared up at the tree he’d been trying to climb with Oikawa, frustrated and embarrassed that he couldn’t reach even the first branch to get started.

“It’s not the branches that are the problem,” Oikawa reasoned. “It’s that you can’t jump high enough to reach them. We play volleyball, Iwa-chan. You should be able to reach that lowest branch, no problem. What kind of ace are you, anyway?”

“All right, let’s see you get up there, wise guy.”

“Sure, easy.” True to his word, Oikawa leapt vertically into the air and grabbed onto the lowest branch with ease, adjusting his grip a few times and swinging his body to get into a better position to continue his climb, but first he smirked down at his angry friend. “See?”

Iwa grabbed Oikawa’s hips. “Let’s see you hang on when I’m tickling you, you jerk.”

“Ah! No! Iwa, nohohohohohoho!” Oikawa giggled frantically, his grip on the branch loosening. He kicked his legs, but Iwa successfully avoided any injury while continuing to tickle the setter’s weakest spot. “Nahahahahahahaha! No fahahahahahahahahair!” Finally he couldn’t take it anymore and dropped to the ground in an ungraceful heap, glaring up at his oldest friend. “That was mean.”

“That was deserved,” Iwa shot back, grinning. “Plus, you left yourself wide open. You kind of set yourself up for that.”

“What?!”

23) Lee Kenma, Ler Bokuto

“You know I can’t play in a bad mood,” Bokuto said, waving his arms for emphasis. “Help me out here!”

His teammates rolled their eyes and looked away, while the boys from Nekoma stared on in confusion. Bokuto’s eyes glanced over everyone in the room and finally landed on his victim for the day.

“Kenma!”

The Nekoma setter blinked, surprised that he was being called out by someone from the opposing team. “What?”

“Get over here.”

“No.” Kemna had a bad feeling about this.

“Fine, I’ll come to you.” Bokuto ducked under the net and strode toward the blonde, who looked up at him with a mix of disinterest and nervousness.

“Bokuto, come on,” Kuroo said. “Leave the poor guy out of this. He’s not your toy.”

“He is today!” Bokuto declared, grabbing Kenma around the waist and squeezing. “Tickle, tickle!”

Kenma gasped, digging his nails into Bokuto’s arms sharply, trying to twist away. But the ace from Fukurodani held him firmly, and soon the little setter couldn’t keep a smile from twitching on his lips.

“S-Stop it,” he pleaded, trying valiantly to get away. Where was his fighting strength when he needed it?! Being zapped out of him from the gentle tickles along his waist, apparently.

“Come on, giggle for me, buddy,” Bokuto teased.

“N-No!” Kenma bit his lip and looked to Kuroo with wide, begging eyes. “P-Please, s-stohop it!”

Bokuto gasped dramatically. “There it was! I heard a giggle! Come on, Kenma!”

“N-N-No…no, I c-can’t…s-s-s-stahahahap!” Kenma finally gave in to the urge and sputtered out a few snickers. “P-Plehehease, stop it!”

Bokuto grinned and did just that, ruffling Kenma’s hair. “Good job, kid. You put me back in a good mood. Thanks!” Then he ducked back under the net and rejoined his team as though nothing had happened, ready to play.

24) Lee Kenma, Ler Kuroo

“But if I spoke more, you wouldn’t be able to hear yourself speak twenty-four-seven,” Kenma muttered under his breath, eyes on his Nintendo DS.

Kuroo looked at him, astonished. “I know you’re perfectly capable of speaking up, Ken, so do you feel like repeating that?”

“No.”

“You’re sassy today.” The Nekoma captain smirked. “Pretty bold words for someone who’s so ticklish, don’t you think?”

Kenma froze in his tracks and looked up at him, eyes wide. “What?”

“Sorry, don’t feel like repeating myself.”

“I-I’m not…I’m not that ticklish.”

“Oh? Shall we test that?”

“No-!” Kenma tried to protest, but Kuroo reached for him and pulled him against his chest, drilling his fingers into the setter’s left underarm. “Nohohohohohoho!”

“You’re talking back way more than normal today,” Kuroo commented, teasing right into his friend’s ear. “Did you want me to tickle you?”

Kenma’s cheeks flushed bright pink. “N-Nohoho! I-I mehehean…m-mahahahaybe, b-but-!”

“Aww, you could have just asked, giggle bug.”

“Dohohohohohon’t call me that!” Kenma squealed, giggles turning hysterical when Kuroo tickled both underarms at once. “Ahahahahahahahaha!”

Kuroo smiled at his adorable friend. “If you really wanted to get away, you could, you know. I’m not holding onto you anymore.” When Kenma didn’t reply – just kept laughing – the captain chuckled. “Don’t worry. I’ll tickle you as long as you want me to~”

25) Lee Hinata, Ler Kenma

“You’re so bad at this.” Hinata was giggling, but not really from Kenma’s poor attempts to tickle him.

“How can I be bad at tickling?” Kenma argued, poking and prodding gently up and down the redhead’s side.

“I don’t know, but you’re managing it.”

Kenma sighed and withdrew his hand. “Forget it, Shoyo. I’m just no good at physical affection.”

Hinata chuckled, kissed Kenma’s nose, and grabbed his wrists, guiding his hands to his ribs. He fought not to shudder from anticipation. “You’re being too gentle. You have to be firm if you want to make me laugh. Try again. Harder this time.”

When Hinata removed his hands, Kenma kept his where they were, hovering over his boyfriend’s ribs hesitantly. Then, after a moment, he mustered up the courage to make contact, curling his fingers and trying to dig in with purpose, like he was squeezing something firm.

This time, Hinata yelped and burst into actual, tickle-induced giggles, fighting not to push poor Kenma away. “Thehehehehehere you gohohoho! Like thahahahat!”

Encouraged, Kenma allowed himself a small smile, digging in even harder, feeling a rush of happiness wash over him when he successfully got his boyfriend laughing. “Does it tickle?” he asked, teasing even though he didn’t mean to.

“Yehehehehehes!” Hinata squealed, grabbing his wrists again to push him away, but to his surprise, Kenma fought back, determined not to let up this time. The redhead let out a shriek that was both panicked and excited when he suddenly found himself pushed to the ground, fingers deep in his ticklish ribs, laughing even harder. “Wahahahahahait, Kenma!”

Kenma smiled – a real, full smile. “You know, maybe I can get the hang of this tickling thing after all.”

26) Lee Kenma, Ler Hinata

“That isn’t true and you know it!” Hinata cried, blushing. “How could you say that?”

“It is true, Shoyo,” Kenma replied in his monotonous voice. “I was there. I saw you doing it.”

“I was not staring at Kageyama all day.” The redhead was indignant, crossing his arms. “That jerk is such a…a jerk.”

“Wow, way to land it.”

“Shut up!”

“You like him.”

“I do not!” Hinata’s heart was racing so fast in his chest he was sure it was about to burst away and run a marathon or something. The more Kenma spoke, the more he panicked that he’d been so obvious about his crush. So there was really only one thing to do – get Kenma to stop talking. He tackled his friend to the floor and grabbed his ankle, ripping the sock off and scribbling over his foot. “Take that back!”

Kenma shrieked – actually shrieked – before bursting into crazed giggles, gripping the front of his shirt so hard his knuckles turned white. “Nohohohohoho! Shoyohohohoho!”

“Take it back!” Hinata demanded, grinning despite himself. He peeled back Kenma’s toes and dug in there. “Tell me you were wrong, and I’ll let you go.”

“B-Buhuhuhuhuht I’m nohohohohot wrong!” Kenma protested, throwing his head back with uncontrollable hysterics when Hinata started tickling both feet at once. “Shoyo!”

“If you won’t take it back, that’s fine,” the redhead teased, smiling at the cute mess he’d made of his friend from Nekoma. “I��ll just tickle you until you do.”

27) Lee Kuroo, Ler Daichi

“Who knew it would be this easy to take you down?”

Kuroo was a complete wreck, head tossed back in throes of laughter while his shoes squeaked on the gym floor as he dug his heels into the ground, Daichi straddling his waist and tickling his sides. The most hilarious thing to the Karasuno captain was that he was barely squeezing at all, yet he had Nekoma’s captain in stitches anyway.

“STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!” Kuroo screamed, his face red from laughing so hard. “DAICHIHIHIEHEHEHEHEHE!!”

“What’s the matter? Can’t handle a little tickling?” Daichi laughed with him. “If I’d known this was all it took to knock you off your high horse I would have done it a long time ago.”

“STOP, STOP, PLEHEHEHEHEHEHEASE STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!”

“Why don’t you tell me where you’re most ticklish. Then I’ll let you go.”

“Y-YOU’RE AHAHAHAHALREADY T-TIHIHIHIHICKLING ME THEHEHEHEHERE!!”

“Really?” Daichi squeezed even harder. “This tickles you worse than any other spot?”

“SHUT UP!! I CAHAHAHAHAN’T HEHEHEHEHEHELP IT!! OH GOD, PLEHEHEHEASE!!” Kuroo tapped on Daichi’s forearms weakly, laughing so hard he thought he might die. “STOP PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE I CAHAHAN’T BREHEHEHEHEHEHEATHE!!”

Suspecting Kuroo wasn’t joking, Daichi finally let up, grinning down at his friend who was now gasping for air, chest heaving. “Dude, does anyone else know you’re this ticklish?”

Kuroo groaned. “Kenma, maybe. I don’t know.”

“Don’t you dare!”

28) Lee Iwa, Ler Oikawa

“D-Don’t look at me like that, you jerk!”

“Like what, Iwa-chan~?” Oikawa purred, placing both hands against the wall on either side of his maybe-more-than-a-friend’s shoulders, trapping him there. “What do I look like right now?”

Iwa growled, trying to cover up the fact that he was blushing. “Like you’re going to…I don’t know…do something. It’s freaking me out. Knock it off.”

“Aw, but why should I?” The team captain leaned in to brush his lips gently over Iwa’s neck, pleasantly surprised when the ace giggled. “Ticklish here?”

“S-Stop it, I’m…I’m not…Toru.” Iwa bit his lip to stifle his giggles, cursing himself for being so sensitive in such a vulnerable spot. “Don’t do that.”

Oikawa hummed. “I could tickle you somewhere else, if you’d prefer.”

“No!”

“Then deal with it, Iwa-chan.”

Iwaizumi scrunched up his shoulders instinctively, reaching up to push Oikawa away. But the instant his hands shoved against the captain’s chest, his wrists were snatched up and pinned there while Toru’s free hand drifted lazily up and down his side, still pressing light kisses to his neck.

“You’re cute when you giggle like that,” Oikawa murmured, a smile in his voice.

Iwa blushed even harder. “Shut up.”

“No, I don’t think I will.”

29) Lee Ennoshita, Ler Tanaka

“Please, teach us!” Tanaka cried, clasping his hands together as if he were praying.

“Yes, teach us!” Ennoshita added, awkwardly mimicking Tanaka’s stance.

Noya stared at them both, stunned, then donned his confident smirk and said, “All right, I’ll teach you how to do rolling thunder – on one condition.”

Tanaka perked up. “Name it!”

“You,” Noya pointed at him, then to the future captain, “tickle him.”

Both of them froze.

“What?” Ennoshita stammered, taking a step back. “Wait, why?”

“Because it’s hilarious,” Noya replied, shrugging. “And to prove you’re serious about it.”

“H-How is that – wait!” Ennoshita held up his hands when Tanaka turned to him. “You’re not seriously going to do it?”

“The master has spoken,” Tanaka intoned, reaching wiggling fingers toward him. “And I must obey.”

“Wait a minute – hey! No! No!” Ennoshita wanted to run, but he knew he’d never get away – not when Tanaka was like this. And he really did want to learn rolling thunder. “J-Just…take it easy!”

Tanaka grabbed onto his sides and dug in, grinning when Ennoshita squeaked and giggled, curling up instinctively but trying to stay on his feet all the same.

Noya watched on in amusement, arms crossed as though he were judging how well they followed his orders. “Yes, that’s right. Show me how much you want me to teach you, my students.”

Ennoshita was laughing for a long, long time.

30) Lee Noya, Ler Kageyama

“Uh-huh. Wait…” It hit Kageyama then, what Noya had implied. “What did you just say?”

Noya let out a huff, averting his eyes as best he could with Kageyama over top of him like this. “I said you…you didn’t have to stop.”

Kageyama blinked. “You…like it?”

“Yeah, so?”

“That’s…unexpected. But adorable.” The setter grinned, resuming his tickling on the libero’s hips, squeezing and kneading and making Noya giggle hysterically. The sound was music to his ears. “Really? You like being tickled?”

“Shut up,” Noya half-snapped, half-pleaded. “I knohohohohow it’s weird.”

“It’s not weird.” Kageyama grabbed his arms and shoved them above his head, leaning in so close that Noya had no choice but to look up and make eye contact with him. “I think it’s the cutest thing ever, Yuu.”

“Stop…stop teasing me,” Noya whined, squirming half-heartedly, heart hammering in his chest. Kageyama had never been this close before. It was exhilarating and terrifying at once. “Just…”

“Just shut up and tickle you?” Kageyama chuckled, kissed him briefly, and did exactly that. “As you wish, guardian deity.”

sometimes i remember how when iwas a child my bestfriend said the password to her ds was her favorite movie (lion king) . but no matter how many times she typed in Lion King it wouldn’t work.so i finally said ok let me try and typed in Loin King instead and it let me in and i told her all i did was capitalize something because ifelt bad for the child version of her that spelled lion like that

Since you asked for origin of interactions for them, here it is, with added extra content. I just had to add characters from other animes to fill in more of their social circles, but i don't know if their year differences in canon would match with the ones in this AU, as i forgot to take them into consideration, and focused on the character similarities for their dynamics.

I like the idea of kisumi being bffs with the divas from every other sports anime, like say, oikawa from haikyuu and kise from knb. They were like, the plastics of med school, except they're a lot nicer. They immediately hit it off at med school, except for oikawa and kise, who were trying to shade each other at the beginning, with kisumi as the mediator. They all pledged to be dermatologists to maintain and bring beauty into the world.

One day the three of them were catwalking to the cafeteria, on the way to get papaya juice and carrot cake (because why not) when oikawa's hunk radar immediately alerts up like *sniffs* "hottie at 20 ft away"

Then they spot makoto around the corner and kisumi goes "if tooru can have a brunet green-eyed beefcake of a boyfriend, then so can i"

"Wait, did you just call iwa-chan a beefcake?"

"Oikawacchi, you're not the only slut around here. We all call your boyfriend a beefcake"

"Yep, even the straight guys. Iwaizumi-sensei has arms that can bend straight men and make lesbians question their sexuality. Anyway, enough about your boyfriend, let's talk about mine!"

"But doesn't he have a boyfriend? That's tachibanacchi, a psychiatrist. The other interns talk about him and the other guy who keeps cockblocking any other person who tries to hit on him"

"Well, how unfortunate for him then. That stud is mine before he gets his next blowjob"

Makoto and haru are bffs, of course, or more. Makoto shed his athlete persona after high school and is fulltime nerd mode throughout his med program. He probably first met nao in his rotations, as nao would have been in residency by that time, and that's when nao helped him choose his specialization, after observing him during the rounds. Sasabe begged him to join family medicine, but makoto kindly refused him, seeing his department as too stressful, and as much as he wants to help, he doesn't want to suffer.

Of course, what's a college au without haru trying to gatekeep makoto from other lurking potential partners. He gets pissed that so many people try to claim being makoto's best friend. He just held back when mochizuki literally stuck like a leech to makoto during uni, and was glad when he shifted courses from a pre-med to med tech so they now go to different campuses/school buildings?? (In my uni, different departments are arranged by different campuses, so a university is like several schools together). Then by med school there was another who belonged to makoto's block/section (they are in different sections) and stuck with makoto for notes in exchange for lunch (and who was makoto to refuse? More food). Haru felt like a third wheel though he wasn't supposed to. Haru was thankful when that guy had to remain a year because he got low marks from his rotations (let's just say he's also not going into the same hospital as makoto and haru, given he failed) even though it saddened makoto.

Of course, there was the issue with mochizuki again upon employment, but haru was able to let that go, as they seem to be only friends. Kisumi, who haru thinks is a professional hoebag, is a bigger threat to him and makoto.

One time makoto whips out his phone in the lounge and plays a mobile game, then kenma, a pathologist, also playing but on a DS, raises his head and attention is piqued. Kuroo from hematology then asks how makoto is able to engage conversation with kenma via gaming topic alone, without kenma being shy. Of course makoto would know how to engage with a cat-like person. His bestfriend is one.

Kisumi has befriended rin when rin entered the cafeteria eyeing the selection of bachelors like some auction and spotted him, inviting him to join their slut cult. He sat rin down and put out his binder full of their potential "targets" and made rin choose a guy, which were catalogued.

"So, here. Matsuoka-sensei, choose your guy."

"Uhm, this one looks hot."

"Oh, you can't, Matsuokacchi. Aominecchi is straight. He's obsessed with boobs and has a porn magazine collection."

"Then why the hell is he in here? What about this guy? Looks so delicious."

"Ushijima-sensei? The hospitalist? That's Tooru's ex boyfriend. And exes are off-limits. That's just like, basic brocode."

"Brocode? 🤨 right. Anyway, this one?"

"Oh, kisumi-chan got his eyes on that one. And he's already competing with someone. You can't join in the mess."

"Then, this one? I hope he's gay and single."

"Oh, yes, an ortho. They say he's quite good handling "bones", if you know what i mean."

With kisumi's "help", Rin tried pursuing sousuke since then, but his flirtations get him nowhere. He's as antisocial as the bitchy nephrologist, and probably doesn't get innuendos.

"Hey, yamazaki-sensei. I bet with that body of yours you can break my spine."

"I think that'll get me charged with malpractice."

"Your face is really a sight for sore eyes, you know?"

"You're the ophthalmologist, you should know better."

"Say, i can't help but get lost in those eyes of yours."

"I got lost in the left wing and i told nobody. Quit complaining."

Rin just had to grab his face and kiss him in his office because he's had enough. He explained how he's been trying to flirt with him the past weeks, and sousuke replies with "why didn't you just tell me I'm hot? That should have made things easier to see."

Rin never talked to kisumi and his cult ever again.

The matsuokas and mikoshibas attended the same uni (that has a med program) and rin spent his entire post high school life chasing away the two male mikoshibas away from his sister. Isuzu promised to keep an eye on gou and chase his brothers away from her, acting as her bestfriend. Years later and rin, momo, and sei find out that the girls are dating, much to momo and sei's chagrin, and rin doesn't know whether to feel relieved or betrayed. But hey, at least it wasn't any of the "readhead rats", as what rin likes to call the brothers.

Nitori tried to finish a pre-med course and get into med school, but switched courses and went into nursing on his 3rd year. By the time his batchmates (gou, nagisa) enter the hospital, he's already been employed for 2 years. He befriended yachi hitoka and sakurai ryo, also nurses, both in ER and him in ICU, and are called the anxiety bundle. They always get get criticized by other nurses, except for sugawara, nitori's senpai in the ICU. They are always teased as "mother and son" for obvious reasons. Nitori only got close to rin because he always drags himself to the ICU when nitori releases a false alarm when the surgeons are occupied (of couse they are, surgeries take hours; sousuke doesn't give a damn, 'cause why should he? He's an ortho). Rin keeps explaining to him that he cannot and will not operate on patients in critical care, and even if he can, from his rotation experiences, nitori's calls are almost always false alarms.

One time momo tried to hit on Yachi while they were in the nurses' station, which makes yachi fear for her life (she always gets startled by his loud energy) and nitori tries to persuade momo to lay off from her since she might not be interested. Momo, thinking that nitori was just being the protective bestfriend, befriended him in order to be favored to get closer to yachi. Momo and Nitori become close until he discloses that yachi is not interested in men, leading momo to find another single lady in the hospital to pursue, while maintaining his friendship with nitori.

Nagisa met hinata during rotations, coming from different med schools. They got accepted together and immediately became friends. Hinata goes into primary care. Nagisa chose to be ob/gyn because all of his sisters are. People tried to discourage him since he's a guy, but then nagisa goes "screw that I'm gay. Your vagina won't turn me on". He hangs around the pharmacy, a place where there is always a person all the time. The only ones there are rei and Tsukishima. Tsukki's salty attitude doesn't relent to nagisa, so nagisa had no choice but to pester rei. Rei finally gets annoyed with nagisa's vulgarity and lack of filter so he asks yamaguchi, the only other person who frequents the pharmacy, Tsukki's bestfriend

"Hey yamaguchi-sensei, you're from psychiatry department right?"

"Yes, why?"

"Who's the best doctor in that department, if i may ask?"

"Well, i would be lying if i say myself, given I'm just a newbie, but i would say tachibana-sensei. He was a great mentor during my rotations and-

"Hazuki-sensei let's go. We're going to book you an appointment to fix that improper behavior"

Rei drags nagisa to makoto's office, tries to convince him that nagisa's lack of tactlessness must be a form of mental health disorder, but makoto amusingly lectures rei on mental health and nagisa on proper etiquette. Nagisa has found another person to chat with, often using an excuse that they are simply doing wellness exercises, much to makoto's exasperation. The only reason nagisa leaves rei or makoto alone is when hinata is vacant, or murasakibara, a gastroenterologist, whips out his sweets. He is possessive of them, but somehow nagisa manages to ask from him as they bond over their love for sugar.

Asahi and Ikuya met in med school, coming from different colleges, and through asahi did ikuya meet hiyori. Hiyori always insists to treat asahi his next meal since he's the only anaesthesiologist he could approach (or rather, the only one who isn't evasive enough to avoid the surgeon), and since asahi spends his breaks with ikuya, hiyori gets adopted into their friendship.

Ikuya avoids his brother's presence at the hospital at all costs. Whenever someone asks him "oh, are you the brother of-"

"Nope! I don't know any kirishima Natsuya. Maybe a distant relative, I'll be going, have a nice day."

Hiyori and kinjou were bestfriends??? from high school to med school, and kinjou really thought hiyori would pursue neurosurgery with him, as it is the hardest specialty and they would need all the support they could get- namely each other- not knowing hiyori would withdraw and switch to general surgery. Kinjou resented hiyori, which since he's in neurosurgery, doesn't get their friendship mended, as he slowly becomes one of the edgelords of the hospital, as all neurosurgeons are.

Apart from ikuya, asahi also hangs out with the other ENTs, like the hedgehog cousins (ìwaizumi and kasamatsu, oikawa and kise's boyfriends, respectively). Asahi, hiyori, the ENTs, and the derma Plastics go out together on occasions. During the time that kisumi finally gave up on makoto- knowing that haru will not back down and makoto will not take his hints as flirting rather than nicety- oikawa and kise push kisumi towards asahi in hopes of finally getting the bubblegumhead a boyfriend.

"But shiginocchi, senpai said that shiina-sensei is bi, so you definitely have a chance!"

"Yaass! And have you seen those pecs? Are you giving up the chance to be able to press your face into those? Go for it bitch before some other slut takes him first!!!"

Kisumi annoys asahi so asahi does some sort of "threatening" gestures, like messing up kisumi's hair, or shoving away his face, and locking up his arms around his neck. It's weird but kisumi finds it hot. He swears that in less than a month asahi's hands will be on his ass and those tits will be his pillow.

Sousuke probably hangs out with natsuya and Seijuro as their works overlap with each other. One time they hang out in sousuke's office (so that he doesn't need to move and not get lost) and rin saunters in, sei goes "you know each other?!?!" Sousuke goes "yeah, he has a crush on me"

"I do not!!!"

"Didn't you tell me to break your spine 😏?"

"Oh yeah? And didn't you say you'd rather check out my bone first?"

Sei and natsuya just stand there and mouth to each other "they're fucking..." "love the confidence"

Nao is friends with kita shinsuke from haikyuu, an oncologist, and akashi from knb, in critical care medicine. With their field requiring scans every now and then, they often frequent the radio tech lab, but is often empty, much to the other two's annoyance. Only nao is persistent enough to search for the radio technologist, which makes him search the entire hospital just to order the scans. Natsuya then deliberately makes nao chase him, until they get closer.

Makoto and haru get introduced to rin and sousuke's friend groups, as well as ikuya's, when makoto checks up nao's patients. People in palliative care are also sometimes under makoto's care, for mental health care. It was towards the end of their schedules so they had no longer charts nor patients to attend to. Natsuya happens to be around, trying to mess up with nao, when he sees haru, then makoto with nao, and asks if they are first year residents. Nao tried to shoo Natsuya away, but he insisted to introduce everyone and voila! The rest is history.

There is an "Anti-Volandel" gc among the doctors who albert has brushed the wrong way. Recent additions include haru and kinjou. Most of the GoM is there, as well as ushijima himself, the director's son, and miya atsumu from infectious diseases. Tbh they all just backstab him there for different reasons, ranging from wounded pride to pettiness (yes, that was atsumu, as he was offended when albert sidestepped him at the hallway).

Crossovers? Drama? Branching storylines? So much happening! Loving the hiyoiku and asakisu interactions; seeing Kisumi go from surrounding himself with people deadset on gossip/drama/etc to this milder but still fun group is nice. Makoto’s story is fun as well (me? attached to Makoto?? shocker) and it’d be cool to watch how Haru’s jealousy develops (either getting worse or waning in time until everything comes to a head — even if Makoto isn’t as introspective on his own relationships and mental state, he’d probably pick up on something going on with them eventually). A and Un, Knight and King, Ace and Setter: a love letter to IwaOi

An attempt at somehow explaining what I adore about this ship.

Spoilers & personal interpretations ahead

IwaOi is my fave Haikyuu!! power “couple” - hard-working, competitive, passionate, charismatic, stubborn, driven, strong, a great team, always moving forward and relatable in their struggles and insecurities. They care deeply about each other and it shows.

- Opposites attract: Iwaizumi and Oikawa aren’t really the people you’d think of as friends at first glance. They are, in some regards, very different people. Where Iwaizumi is honest, Oikawa throws on a fake smile. Where Oikawa calculates carefully before acting, Iwaizumi is more impulsive and straight-forward. Iwaizumi is genuinely kind while Oikawa can be quite petty and even mean. Oikawa is totally self-aware whereas Iwaizumi is shown to be surprised when his team cheers for him. Their differences are the reason why they complement each other, probably not only on the court as captain and vice-captain.

a (quite hilarious) example of their differences: dealing with Kyoutani

- “With 6 people the strong are even stronger, you dumbass!”: I thought it was really fitting that Oikawa’s backstory was told by Iwaizumi in the anime. He understands Oikawa has a problem that runs deeper than just being really into volleyball:

please look at their expressions.. *emotional overload*

After de-escalating the situation with Kageyama Iwaizumi more or less tells Oikawa that he isn’t alone on the court, that winning depends on the strength of every player, essentially laying the foundation for Oikawa’s setter “philosophy” (drawing out the maximum strength of every player). With a few new year’s fireworks added, most likely to enhance this feeling of a new beginning for them, especially for Oiks as a setter. I also really like how Oikawa and Iwaizumi don’t hold back around each other. Oikawa shows his “ugly” side: self-centered, jealous, desperate, lashing out at Kageyama. And (this is the important point) Iwaizumi doesn’t reject him, doesn’t turn away (so it’s no surprise he trusts Iwaizumi that much). Their fight is immediatly followed up by teasing (”Is dumbass the only insult you know?”), maybe because it makes Oikawa more secure in their connection? Or just to lighten the mood. I love that Iwaizumi’s words had such an impact on Oikawa (”All of a sudden, I feel invincible”), that he thinks about them years after they were said.

- Teasing: I like Iwaizumi’s dry comments (Oikawa: ”I can pass as half-foreign! That’s incredible!” “What’s really incredible is your ability to think so positively about this”) and creative name-calling or Oikawa’s full blown teasing that sometimes contains compliments (e.g. in the DS game: Oikawa: “Well~ Really, having Iwa-chan here is a relief~ On top of being the ace, his defense is also right on the mark!” Iwaizumi: “Ah, what are you saying suddenly?” (lol) “But, it’s such a pity that no matter how good Iwa-chan is, no girls will notice you~ But even if you don’t get noticed by the girls, only Oikawa-san knows!” (source)). Another of my faves is Oikawa calling Iwa-chan “mother” because of his caring attitude. Their competitiveness can be quite adorable as well (remember the speed walking competition?).

- “The immense level of trust between you and me”: Oikawa as a captain is always encouraging his teammates, pulling the strings for them to play at their best (e.g. Kindaichi in ch. 50 who jumps higher after Oikawa talked to him, very cleverly setting him up, “you must be sad that your place as Kageyama’s partner was stolen”, Oiks, you sly bastard). No need for that with Iwaizumi. He gets teasing and a backhanded compliment instead of straightforward encouragement (“Iwa-chan, aren’t you trying too hard? You don’t need to show off, you know! There aren’t any girls who’d watch you, after all!”). Their interaction after a successful attack furthers this point: Iwaizumi says how he’d like the toss a little differently and Oikawa replies: “But you can generally get there to hit it anyway, Iwa-chan”. There are no special adjustments necessary with Iwaizumi, setting for Iwa-chan is more or less a no-brainer for Oikawa.

It’s also known to Kageyama that Oikawa will toss to Iwaizumi in a pinch (that means he already relied on Iwaizumi like that in middle school when Kageyama could observe it) which Kageyama used to Karasuno’s advantage. Iwaizumi is Oikawa’s “pillar”, his and the team’s support in times of doubt/trouble (examples: ”don’t dwell on it” when Oikawa failed his new power serve, wise words in times of need like the one with six people on the court or “Oi, you better not say you’re ‘no match when it comes to tosses’ again”, ch. 53, showing faith in Oikawa’s abilities). And with Seijou’s loss we get to see Oikawa comforting Iwaizumi about not scoring on the last play (”You should be praisig yourself for hitting that with perfect timing, Iwa-chan”). All of this (and their deep understanding of each other) makes IwaOi stand on more equal ground than just captain and normal team member (another example is the time when Iwaizumi demanded a change of playing style: ”Let me take this challenge”).

It’s canon that Oikawa listens to Iwaizumi, not only to what he says but often “obeying”, too. In the Haikyuu!! DS game it’s stated that he doesn’t do what his coaches tell him but rather what Iwa-chan tells him to do. Examples are the iconic scene where Iwaizumi throws a volleyball at Oikawa - one look into Iwaizumi’s (scowl-y) face and Oikawa is going, away from his crowd of fans, or when he answers to Iwaizumi with “Yessir” when he demands a change of playing style. This is obviously also true the other way around. In a lot of situations Iwaizumi does what Oikawa tells him to do without discussion (“Iwa-chan, go! Scold him [Kyoutani]!” and well.. he just goes). It’s probably a lot more likely that you do what someone tells you to do if you trust them, trust them to have your best interest in mind (or, in a volleymanga, also the best interest of the team).

This scene made me go GUUWAAH (to say it in Hinata-speech): Oiks pointing across the whole fucking court, super dramatic, setting the ball to the person who is inconveniently the furthest away and Iwaizumi spiking that set just so..!! I’M !! (+ Iwa-chan’s expression before... ).

- Silent understanding: The term A-Un, often used to describe the two (Haikyuu!! Light Novel 7, translation by loveclouds), refers to an inherently harmonious relationship with non-verbal communication. This is apparent in Iwaizumi’s and Oikawa’s smooth team work, they “share a brain on the court”.

They also demonstrate impressively detailed knowledge of what the other is thinking/feeling without direct verbal communication, whether it’s Oikawa messing up his serve (ch. 66) because he lost his concentration thinking of Ushiwaka and Shiratorizawa or Iwaizumi being upset, blaming himself for their loss and questioning his role as the ace (ch. 148). They can both detect that much about the other with a single look.

On top of that both of them pretty much know what the other needs in response to their inner turmoil in these situations (”Someone who can’t see the opponent right in front of him can’t defeat the one that lies beyond.” and Oikawa makes his best serve yet or a backslap and later: “You should be praising yourself for hitting that with perfect timing” and Iwaizumi is in the emotional space to throw Oikawa down the street). Also, how Iwaizumi is able to see through Oikawa’s act like no other: “A genuine smile, how rare”. Iwaizumi is often shown to remember what Oikawa said and asking him further questions about it (the reader’s way into Oiks’ mind) or calling him out when his behaviour and what he says aren’t matching up. Oikawa holds Iwaizumi’s words in high regard as well.

What also makes my heart squeeze is how the Seijou coach is all like “wow, Oikawa, I didn’t know you were this good” when Oikawa does that amazing toss across the whole court but Iwaizumi never comments on it because he really believes in Oikawa, I think, as can be seen by him getting pissed about Oikawa putting himself down about his setting abilities in comparison to Kageyama. This is probably also true the other way around: the whole Seijou team going nuts (like me) over Iwaizumi crushing the Iron Wall while Oikawa just makes this weird half-pleased face, not seeming surprised at all. But they can still do or say things the other doesn’t expect. Oikawa as someone who succesfully plans ahead and calculates people’s (re)actions, who likes to be in control, who “conducts” his team quite perfectly is still sometimes surprised by the stuff Iwaizumi, his lifelong friend, does or says (amazing!). For example when Iwaizumi declared Oikawa “a partner he can boast” and that (volleyball?) partnership independent of them staying on the same team. And it also happens the other way around: Oikawa choosing Iwaizumi for that toss and showing support to Iwaizumi after their loss (why he didn’t expect to be supported, shown by a “?!”, just makes me sad.. more back slaps for him!!). I love their surprised faces, especially Oikawa’s wide eyes and his “Fufufufu” (whatever that may mean).

- Romantic potential? You can read Oikawa’s teasing, especially when girl-issues are involved (which happens with no other Haikyuu!! ship like that, as far as I know, correct me if I’m wrong), him being dumped by his girlfriend and Iwaizumi being brought up after in that conversation, Iwaizumi’s immediate denial as Oikawa talked about their “perfect trust” (”Like hell we have something like that!”) and Iwaizumi’s annoyance at Oikawa’s fangirls (“Boys who have girls going kyaa kyaa over them irritate me even more!” ) one way or another. Their bond is definetly strong, no matter if romance is involved or not (if you’re interested in a more detailed meta on romanc-y implications in all types of Haikyuu!! media: IwaOi checklist by rozeart).

I’d like to add one point to the romantic implications: Oikawa’s character is probably kind of based on Alexander the Great (”oikawa the great”, meta by ironspiders). They share their birthday, Oikawa’s the “Grand King”, he has the opposing personality traits and... a Hephaestion by his side. Hajime/Tooru and Hephaestion/Alexander share a few common points. Hephaestion was the chidhood best friend of Alexander, his general and bodyguard. Their friendship lasted a lifetime and was compared by the men themselves to Achilles’ and Patroclus’ relationship. They were described as “one soul sharing two bodies”. It’s not clear if Alexander and Hephaestion were lovers or not (though one letter mentioned that Alexander was “ruled by” his best friend’s thighs (back then intercrural was more a thing than other types of sex between two men) and they married sisters so Alexander could be the uncle of his best friend’s children). (Yes, when it comes to my ships I really do my research thoroughly..)

But even if we come to the conclusion that there is nothing in canon pointing at romance, does IwaOi meet the requirements for a “successful” romantic relationship? Canon!IwaOi already fulfills a lot of needs a romantic relationship would satisfy - companionship (they “walk the same path”, Haikyuu!! Light Novel 7), the desire to love and be loved (they care for, respect and inspire each other and I’d even go as far as saying they have mutual admiration, “You’re a really amazing setter” for example) and an emotional support system (they stick together through the tough and the good times plus Iwaizumi is the embodiment of reliability, in my opinion). They already have trust, friendship and emotional intimacy built up from years together; there is nothing about their relationship as it’s presented in the manga that I’d seriously consider problematic. At the core of romance is so called psychological mirroring - gaining self-awareness and psychological visibility through interaction with and reflection through/in another, equally aware consciousness. I’d argue that Oikawa and Iwaizumi find this to quite a great extent in their relationship - they know each other (otherwise for example the silent understanding adressed earlier wouln’t be possible). It is mentioned that they are “linked mentally and physically”: they connect on multiple levels. No other character is shown to relate to one of them on the level they relate to each other (this post by thisisgospelforthefandoms states how Iwa-chan is a friend to Oikawa in a way Ushiwaka and Kageyama cannot be because they see him only as a superior/competitor). The chance is high that they feel seen wholly by the other, also due to the longevity of their friendship. There is not a lot to say about the sexual aspect of romance. Haikyuu!! addresses plenty of things but I don’t think sex is among them (as opposed to attraction in general). So that’s basically headcanon-territory. (The definition of romantic love that I picked is the one author and psychotherapist Nathaniel Branden describes in his book “The Psychology of Romantic Love” (definitely recommended!).)

- Different universities: I know a lot of people were sad about this but it made me ship them even more.They encourage each other’s growth even if it’s not on the same side of the net anymore. They don’t hold each other back, they are seperate people who choose to be together, not out of habit or whatever, but because they still want to after all these years. In Haikyuu!! Light Novel 7 it’s even said that their relationship definetly will never change (translation by loveclouds). That old-kawa Iwa-chan is talking about? Canon says they’ll be together then, too.

tldr: Canon!IwaOi is the best: mutual support, trust and love - I wouldn’t want it any other way

- Angst-y bonus: Haikyuu!! Light Novel 7 (the day after Seijou’s loss to Karasuno): “[...] his [Oikawa’s] head was somewhere else completely. That time, that play … no. Not that. The last ball…while he thought about these things, he felt suffocated and the pain shot through his body.” (translated by bungoustraighthome). AAAAH what the actual hell Take that as you wish (I’m not sure how to take that, really. Ouch).
