I saw a tiktok about the covey assuming Lucy Gray and Snow ram off together only to later witness his rise to power as president. And as someone who stands by the “Maude Ivory is Katniss’ grandma theory” im just imaging baby Katniss sitting with grandma Maude Ivory cursing out Snow on the TV like how a modern day grandma hating on Charles for doing Diana dirty over 30 years ago

There’s an ongoing joke that this random man punching Snow is Katniss’ grandfather. It’s so hilarious that I choose to believe it is CANON.
It’s true. It’s all connected. 🤓👆
It’s a joke where the punchline is delivered first and Katniss is the one that ends it.

So, I already posted this, but I'll give it one more shot:
I think the view that the reality of The Hunger Games is literally happening right now is so right and probably way scarier than people even realize. When we talk about The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins literally just reflected real capitalist-caused issues to fit into a dystopian world, but it's literally here, from the most obvious thing to the simplest detail:
How the riches and concessions from the Capital to loyalist Districts made people from 1, or 2, or so on, think of themselves as closer (in nature) to people of the capital than people in the poorest Districts? That's middle-class thinking, stopping them from realizing they're just as pressed by the Capital as the poorest Districts (the guy from 2 in the last movie, saying he wasn't Snow's slave when WE KNOW he is, everyone is?)?
How the electric fence around 12 is THE ONLY THING stopping people from starving to death since they could very well USE the land? That's literally the argument for legalized occupation movements on unused land, like MST and MTST in Brazil.
The use of addictive drugs and the idea of a "war on drugs" in District 6 to control the population and quite literally render them useless to weaponize such an important thing as medical supplies against the Capital (not that this should happen, but still)? That's literally happening in most poor countries in the world, just as much with legalized drugs - like the COVID vaccine (which Africa had and is still having trouble acquiring because of the Global North) - as with illegal drugs like weed, which is used as justification for police to invade favelas in Brazil, kill innocent people (children especially) and brutalize dozens more each time in a war against poor POC in special.
What they did to Finnick, Cashmere, and Gloss? Lemme tell you two words: Epstein Scandal.
The control of the media? Comms people can tell you: media always has a side, it's not bad in itself, but most of the mainstream media is right-wing and/or conservative, and I'm not talking just regionally, but globally, hence what we're seeing at mainstream media trying to hide important news, manipulate or maintain the narrative of equivalence between Israel and Palestine when we know what is happening is a genocide, an ethnic-based genocide.
The dehumanization of the people from the Districts suffer by the people of the Capital? How billionaires see the working class, how white people view POC, how the North looks at Global South countries - that's exactly there, people.
It's literally there.
But we're not the Capital, not entirely at least. It's true that we live in constant alienation caused by the overwhelming amount of content we have to swallow on a day to day basis — Brave New World, hello? — but we, the working class, are also the ones who pay the price of the "Capital's" need for profit without wanting to actually work — we work so they don't have to, even though we should be the ones to benefit from the result of our own work.

my personal theory is that lucy gray died in the woods. snow shot her, and she bled out among the flowers and snakes she loved. the covey found her wagon, they put together that she was leaving to go North, and they decided that, as their own goodbye to Lucy, they’d go to the lake for a picnic. They found her there, not Maude, but one of the older kids. they said their goodbyes and they buried her right next to the lake bed, a few meters away from the katniss.
the covey swore they’d never speak of what became of lucy gray. she was one of them, and her story didn’t belong to anyone else. but they never forgot her, or her music.

Lucy Gray in the afterlife when her fuckass ex-boyfriend shows up after getting trampled by rebels thanks to getting defeated by Maude Ivory's granddaughter from 12, who turned Lucy Gray's song into a rebel cry after playing on the Capitol's love of drama and romance to survive the games TWICE

whatever you do, don't think about how heartbroken the covey would have been when lucy gray disappeared. how they just got her back and just as quickly, she was gone.
don't think about how sad maude ivory would have been to lose both lucy gray and coriolanus, her older sister and older brother figure both gone at once.
how they all would've thought that she left them behind for the north, and how none of them would have suspected coriolanus being the reason why she never came back.

Lucy Gray is free. No, she’s lost, gone.
Tumblr media
I know we all want her to be free. She’s surely free from Coriolanus but being forced to live in exile is far away from freedom. Lucy Gray could never come back to 12 and reunite with her family. It would be too dangerous.
I’ve seen people who claimed Lucy Gray Baird was the only victor who got to experience peaceful life after the Games. Even if she escaped totalitarian regime, being banished without possibility to ever return to your beloved ones is nothing like the Life of a Victor…
There is a corelation to Wordsworth’s poem. Young Lucy Gray got lost in the forest. She was all alone, living only by herself - just like TBOSAS heroine. We don’t know her faith, only the loneliness accompaning her in the woods.
Freedom means being able to decide for yourself and Lucy Gray was forced to run away. If she never did, she’d be arested by the mayor or worse- by Capitol. A choice between survival and death is no choice at all.
Moreover, not only her persona was „imprisoned” but also her art. Any musical performances were prohibited (in D12) and Hanging Tree went on a black list.
The memory of Lucy Gray faded over the years. Yet, this oblivion was the closest to freedom.

Okay but imagine your cousin/friend is dating this guy and he kinda gives you the ick (in a c**ty fascist kinda way) but your girl swears he's okay and you're like not my circus. And then one day your girl and the guy both disappear. Years pass and you see the fascist and he's now the fucking President?? But your girl is nowhere to be found??
.
And that's why I feel like Maude Ivory was like OH HELLLL NO to Coriolanus Snow. And decided to pass down The Hanging Tree song

I honestly don’t care if this is a hot take or not. If you are willing to excuse everything that Coriolanus Snow did because he’s HOT now, you are the same type of people who would be susceptible to propaganda or the people who would be complacent in the face of the oppressor. One of the biggest assets to Snow both in the book for Ballad and for the film was his looks. He was attractive to people, and he knew this would play into his advantage in winning people over. Mix attractiveness and charisma and people are willing to listen. It’s a cheap trick, and when reading you could even find yourself laughing at those who fall for his very obvious malicious intents. However, the movie did not give the viewer Snow’s monologues. They did not have the same voices in the film. They just had to rely on Snow’s body language through his actions and his dialogue. In a sense, that only makes Snow’s manipulation much more potent in its execution. You shouldn’t NEED a book to tell you that Snow was being manipulative the entire time. You shouldn’t need the oppressor in your head telling you what they’re thinking to recognize that their plans are nowhere near GOOD. People who are willing to excuse Snow for his actions because of his smile or for his Slim Shady buzz cut need to reevaluate themselves. This is the same Coriolanus Snow that killed over 1,500 kids in the Hunger Games alone, not including the people killed in the shadows or during the active resistance itself. This is the same Coriolanus Snow who is responsible for SELLING CHILDREN into PROSTITUTION to others in the Capitol. He is the reason for the creation of the avoxes, for making being able to live a fraction of a stable life a prize to be won, and more. Snow is EVIL and he always has been. He mentioned Tigris selling herself for their sustainability and calling her ugly in response. He shows disdain towards his own grandmother. He uses Sejanus to his advantage and kills him when it benefits him. Lucy Gray angers him because she is the one person that he cannot control. His love for power is the thing he ogles at the most, and when someone poses a threat to that power, he’s enraged. Everything that Coriolanus Snow does is for his own gain and his own approach to or reaffirmation of his power. Every choice he made in Ballad was for his own self interests. I saw someone on TikTok say that it was “survivalist instinct.” Yes, he had survival in mind with some of his actions, but his overall goals in the novel were centered around his rise to power and what can possibly bring him there. Snow has always been centered around himself. The fact that you are able to watch that movie and still walk away kicking your feet and twirling your hair over CORIOLANUS SNOW shows me how fickle you would actually be in places of resistance. You bought into his manipulation and are giggling about it when you should be concerned. Some people are willing to JUSTIFY what he’s done. I have NEVER seen so many people go around in circles trying to justify the actions of PRESIDENT SNOW since this movie came out and it genuinely scares me. Simping over TOM BLYTH is one thing and THIS POST IS NOT FOR THOSE PEOPLE. But the people who BOUGHT into Snow’s manipulation, you’re fucking dumb as rocks. Remember Finnick? Everyone in this fanbase was all over Finnick and how attractive he was in the movies and how badly they wanted him. When the fandom finds another pretty boy, they gravitate towards him knowing he’s the one that murdered their first. One of the biggest tragedies about Snow’s character is that you see who he could have been, and then you see who he CHOSE TO BECOME. People forget the latter part. He chose to become who he did, and you’re trying to tell me everything he did was for survival? The public clearly has beauty trump critical thought, and you SHOULD be scared.

Imagine:
Meeting Snow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Request: Yes or No
~~~
After a long, drawn-out, and exhaustive game, your beloved friend was back home in District 12 where she belonged. She'd returned looking tired and almost fearful in her slightly torn homemade attire that still had the grime and blood from the game she'd participated in. Dirt, blood, sweat, and tears coated her tawny-brown cheeks but the minute her eyes found the Covey awaiting in the crowd, a wide smile appeared on her dry lips and she flew toward them with arms extended. They'd each embraced her, long and hard, tucking her in the safety of their arms as Maude Ivory cried out words muddled down to gibberish from the overwhelming emotions.
After getting cleaned up and into fresh clothes, Lucy Gray recounted how helpful her mentor, a handsome young man by the name of Coriolanus Snow, had been all throughout. She spoke of him with a gentle, longing smile, the same smile that'd adorned her face during her relationship with Billy prior to his pathetic relationship with the mayor's nasty daughter. No one made any attempt to ask about the games, for the look on her face had been telling enough.
It'd taken a day or two for Lucy Gray to settle back into the old routine and with the people's favor and love, the Covey returned to playing at The Hob. It hadn't felt right to perform without her, without their singer and closest friend. Countless nights were spent with members pacing or quietly humming to keep themselves occupied from the knowledge Lucy Gray had a slim chance of returning home. But with her return and a guitar in hand, she sang through the night and everything finally felt normal again, until Billy shoved his way through the crowd and escalated things until fights broke out and they were forced to leave before on-duty Peacekeepers arrived. Lucy Gray had pulled on your arm on the way home that night, excitedly telling you about how she'd seen Coriolanus in the crowd.
So, you weren't surprised when Maude Ivory called your name out the following morning, exclaiming a Peacekeeper was at the door asking for Lucy Gray's whereabouts. You approached the front door and nodded for Maude Ivory to head back inside, eyeing the young man from head to toe. Lucy Gray had described him as a handsome pale, blue-eyed kid with blonde ringlets. Like all Peacekeepers, he'd taken to shaving his hair but he otherwise matched the description.
"I'm here for Lucy Gray. I was her mentor-"
"I know. She told me all about you." His posture straightened and the ghost of a grin passed over his lips. You would've found it endearing had it not been for an odd feeling pricking at your gut. "Coriolanus, was it?"
He gave a firm nod. "Yes, that's right."
"Pleased to meet you, Coriolanus. My name's (Y/N) Everdeen. Come inside. I'll take you to Lucy Gray after breakfast."
