this is a fancam made by twitter user fleetwood_wac. the background song is skechers by dripreport, and i think it was a tiktok song? (i don’t have tiktok) in 2020/2021, it became famous on ryan ross stan twitter. i don’t think the original tweet is still up, but aryn has it in this reply.

in 2021, it became a meme in the ryan stan twitter community, and people tagged gordan ramsay in the tweet, asking his opinion on ryan’s cooking.

first male model for mac:

the story goes that in the fever era, the makeup company mac offered ryan a spot to be their first male model. unfortunately, he declined. according to the comments on a livejournal post i found, ryan discussed this in a 2006 spin magazine interview [i]. there were scans of the interview, but sadly, they’re not available, like most pictures on lj. it hasn’t been archived either.

the same commenter says that article doesn’t specifically mention mac, though. mac did offer ryan free products, but he doesn’t say if he accepted them [i].

so, it’s unsure if ryan was offered to be mac’s male model (unless there’s another source i’ve missed) or another brand’s. either way he turned it down. my guess is that the mac idea came from the fact that he used mac’s products back then.

beef with pete wentz:

after the split, brendon got pete in the divorce.

in a MTV interview that ryan did in 2009, it says “…he wishes Urie and Smith well and still considers them both to be his friends…The same cannot be said, however, about his former boss -- Decaydance Records honcho/ Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz -- who seems to have clearly aligned himself with the Urie/Smith camp following the split" [ii].

in the same interview, ryan specifically says:

"I haven't spoken to him in a while, since this happened. I guess I've been meaning to call him back. He called me, but I've missed a lot of phone calls this week," Ross said. "We're not sure [whether Ross' and Walker's new band will be on Wentz's Decaydance Records]. I'll have to talk to him, but obviously from what's happening online, I think he's ... he's written a lot about them. I don't know if they're working together on their stuff. I'm not really sure, but it's been awhile since we've spoken. It's strange. It's kind of weird" [ii].

the author of the article speculates that ryan and pete’s friendship is over [ii]. i can’t find the source for this, nor can i remember what the specific comments were, but i swear that pete did make some shady comments about ryan at one point.

however, it does seem that their relationship is not on negative terms currently. in 2016, pete tweeted this and this about ryan [iii] [iv]. also, this year (2023), pete mentioned ryan in a video fall out boy posted of pete reviewing his old fashion! you can watch it here:

in the fever era, panic did interviews for a japanese magazine. someone ran ryan’s portion through an image translation, and it brought back something about hentai.

eta: update, twitter user givememallce bought the actual magazine from japan and provided us with translations of this image and the questions the band was answering! they also included the answers from the rest of the band if you're curious about those [vi]. so the biggest shoutout to them and their service.

fake wedding with z:

in 2009, ryan and z pretended to be married. ryan tweeted a picture of z with a wedding ring, called her his wife, and also tweeted a quote of her calling him “the best husband ever” [vii].

later, he tweeted that his wife left in the middle of the night. he then had a revelation:

the best part is that all of these events took place within a single day.

not actually 5’11:

this is a conspiracy that ryan is lying about his height.

one piece of evidence was that brendon is 5’9, meaning ryan would be 2 inches taller than him. however, in a lot of photos they look to be relatively the same height.

the other piece is that multiple fans who have met ryan said that compared to their own heights, he can’t be 5’11. i don’t have specific sources of people saying that, but i know it was discourse on twitter at one point.

next is the final entry in the iceberg, where we get into the most obscure stuff the iceberg has to offer and finish this thing up.

[THIS IS AN OLD POST. MATCHUPS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED.] i’m opening match ups again!

so as you just read, i’ve been thinking about it and decided to reopen my matchups. i had so much fun doing it last time and just yesterday, i reread some of the matchups i did, and genuinely some of those are the best works i’ve published on here so far. laurie encouraged me to do it as well, and like, obviously then i cant pass up on the opportunity.

this time though, i will do things differently. which means please read the rules before you request!!! also, the list of fandoms for which i’ll do matchups has changed as well. you’ll find that one at the end of this post.

I. please name the pronouns/gender you’d like me to use for your request

II. i do not write nsfw

III. if you don’t (want to) put your sexuality in the request, that’s totally okay! it just means that it’s possible i’ll ship you with any character of any gender. so if you have your preferences, tell me!

IV. i may also match you with more than a single person if i cannot decide, but those occasions will be rare unless you ask for it. you can definitely request a matchup for two people (i.g. of different genders) for a single fandom - i value all of your creative input

V. you can absolutely request for more than one fandom in a single ask though or send another one. do keep your fandoms in just one ask at three or less though, but feel free to come back around whenever

VI. your matchup may vary in length and quality. i too have my good and bad days, and some of your asks will inspire me more than others. i always do my best though and usually i’ll find a good many things to tell you

have i ever seen a moose - god i wish. i dont even think moose live in my part of canada? (just googled it and they dont. very sad day for me)

temperature over here - rn its 6 degrees, in the summer it gets up to like 30 degrees, & winter usually gets down to around -10 at most.

favourite fic of all time - oooh this is a hard one. now i dont really read fics for any other fandom, its kinda for marauders for me so. my wip favourites are disintegration by moonymoment, crimson rivers by zar, edge by pinkpalaceapartments (another agent-james assassin-reg fic, based on killing eve), kill your darlings by messermoon, and ofc dead or alive (i guess i have a thing for assassin reg and agent james LOL) now for finished fics... the winner is gonna have to go to just lovers (like we were supposed to be) by zar. (and intermission by zar too since it fits in there) its just perfect and i feel like ive reread it a billion times.

fav golden trio era ship - probably luna and neville (do they have a ship name? i cant think of it if they do) they were my favourite characters as a kid so they have a special place in my heart. OH i also love romione because theyre just a classic and i love them sm.

do i write fics - sadly no. ive tried and failed. im not a creative writer at all, in fact im literally the opposite, call me the grammar police. im essentially the designated paper editor among my friends because im fantastic at technical writing and stuff like that, but i cant write for shit. i truly envy people who can create such beautiful stories.

tea or coffee - coffee always. i do love tea and have it probably just as much as coffee but i will always be a coffee girly.

go to outfit - hmm. well i basically live in my doc martens and leather jacket (very sirius of me i must say) and i do love a good baggy jean and band tee look. but on my off days you cannot find me out of my sweatpants or pajamas. its simply not happening.

how many piercings - 4, two on each earlobe. (2 i did myself with a sewing needle, dont recommend) i really wanna get my septum or just the nostril, but i havent decided yet. although id probably never get it, i do love the look of the medusa piercing too its just cool.

area of study - im studying classics and anthroplogy in uni rn! ive always been a history/humanities girly and i love ancient history and languages so much so thats what i decided to do. (plus i was a greek mythology kid so) i think my ideal career path would be archaeologist but that could change at any given moment, so im just seeing where uni takes me.

fun fact about me - hmmm. im left handed! kinda not a fun fact but for some reason i dont know very many left handed people (i swear have we gotten rarer or something??)

This is a request I did for the amazing @strawberry-caffeine -- she’s been so kind to me and it was an absolute joy to do this request!

A few things: With the length of the request, while I still included friendship matchups, I decided not to write out descriptions/explanations along with them. To (hopefully) make up for that, I put the #1 friendship choice in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS with two other bonus characters I think you’d be good friends with in regular bold type (except for the Harry Potter: Marauders era because there aren’t many choices haha). Seriously though, one (out of many) of the reasons Jack loves you so, so much is how you’re able to talk him out of a slump. This idea was given to me by @mypureessence and it was just the thing to get me out of my writers block funk.

So please enjoy this ride. 😌

Cold, it was cold day when the elders came to visit Hakoda and Bato in their hut a year after the passing of Kya. Hakoda was hesitant to welcome them in but they insisted it was important. Once everyone was seated they pulled out three sacks, one no bigger than Hakoda's own head and the other two closer to the size of 10 year old Sokka.

"What are these?" Bato asked with confusion evident on his face.

"These belong to your children" Elder Skola said with a firm gaze, she took out the smaller item and held an ancient egg the color of the sky with deep brown specks all around "this belongs to young Katara, normally we would wait to give her the egg until she turned 10, but with the war its dangerous already to travel once. She is connected to a soul who has somehow managed to survive for a long long time. This egg will hatch when she meets them" Skola frowned "we fear that the creature inside might not have survived, but Tui and La instructed us to deliver them now"

Hakoda looked to Bato and then back "and that one is for.."

"Young Sokka" elder Tinuel said as he removed the much larger eggs, on was a deep reddish brown with a golden glow at the top and bottom and the other was a mossy grey with bronze specks all around. "He has been blessed with two soulmates of this era"

"Thank you elders, is there anything else?"

"Yes, Young Katara's egg connects her to a powerful and dangerous journey. But with the help of her mate she will overcome many struggles. And young Sokka's connects him to both independent and powerful futures. They will journey later, but they will never be alone."

That day was cold. But the promise for their children was warm.

Now here Sokka and Katara stand on broken ice block staring at a beacon of blue light shining into the sky and a boy stumbling over the edge of the exploded iceberg. "Stay back!" Sokka shouted but then the boy collapsed and Katara rushed to catch him.

He woke up and they soon ventured back to the village with GranGran questioning about the beacon only to stop when she saw the egg attached to Aang's back. "Huh" she managed out

"What? What is it?" Aang said with a raised brow

"That egg of yours looks pretty fuckin old... katara, doesn't that egg look pretty old? And about the size of a grown man's head?" Kanna gave a cheeky grin and Katara blushed

"Give me a second, I'll be right back" she darted off and Sokka pouted with his arms crossed when she came back with her egg in hand "say, would you mind holding my egg?" She asked with a smile "and... can I see yours?"

Aang gave a confused look but shrugged "sure, but Ive already tried this before" sure he tried before but when Katara took hold of his egg and Aang took hold of hers they both glowed and hatched, releasing a blue parrot mouse and a white parrot mouse, the white mouse taking refuge on Katara's shoulder and the blue mouse taking refuge on Aangs. All the while they hatched there were glowing lights all around them, circling around them until the beings took their place and the lights then made swirling patterns on Katara and Aang's palms.

"Woah" Katara said in a whisper

"Yeah, woah" Aang said with an even softer whisper.

Sokka felt jealous in that moment but he pushed it away to give his sister the moment she deserved. He smiled as he watched them hug.

That day ended in a different way than it began, they found themselves thrown into a cat and mouse chase while searching for a waterbending master. A few days later they were on Kyoshi island and Sokka was training with the warriors after being put in his place. "So you have an egg?" Suki asked after she got the upperhand

"Yep, I have two of them actually" Sokka said with false confidence, the truth was he was terrified of that fact, two people he'd have to protect and he was terrified of them getting hurt.

"Oh cool, so do I" Suki said with clear pride as they separated and dusted off their uniforms

"You do? Wow, that sounds fun" he turned to her and smiled "can I see them?"

"As long as I can see yours, its not everyday you meet someone else with a soul egg, let alone two!"

And thats how they found themselves at the center of the town with everyone surrounding them because 'no! Eggs are rare! The likelihood of you being soulmates is too high to not test infront of everyone.!"

Both of their eggs were matching and they reached for the warm red and gold egg first, nothing happening when they held eachothers so they handed them back, then came the mossy stone. The instant they took hold of the others they cracked open and two blue deer jays one with a bronze feather on their tail and the other with a silver tail, the Silver finding Sokka's head to be the perfect perch and the Bronze finding that Suki's hand was an optimal perch.

All the while the hatching happened they were surrounded by bronze and silver glowing lights that ended up making swirling patterns on their right palms that seemed to resemble flames. A clue.

Of course they didn't realize that this was a clue just yet. It took all the way until Zuko joined the group for Sokka to catch on.

When he led Zuko to his room at the temple he watched Zuko gently place two eggs on the ground surrounded by small blankets recognized both of them, the firey one and the mossy one. His eyes went wide at the sight and he cleared his throat "well, make yourself comfortable.. home sweet home and all that"

And when Zuko turned to him, only showing his clearly partially blind scarred side and smiling. His heart fluttered. Oh no... that man that he feared for so long only had to send him a soft smile and he couldnt talk "right... yeah" and he scurried off with Aang who, thankfully asked no questions.

When Sokka and Zuko managed to get Suki, Hakoda and Chit Sang back, with Suki's remaining egg being in a cage and her blue deer Jay in a smaller one, Toph metal bent the cages open and. After that Sokka pulled them all into Zuko's room, Suki still holding her egg and he ran off to grab his own and came back into the room.

"Zuko, look" he lifted his egg and tilted his head towards both Suki's egg in her hands and Zuko's two on the ground "give it a try?"

Zuko stammered and flushed a bright red but noddedand they took the eggs out to the group where Zuko handed them his mossy egg which upon being held by both of them opened to reveal a small blue deer jay with a golden tail feather that nestled up right on his shoulder and cooed at him. All three of them were surrounded by the glowing lights until they landed on Zuko's hand in swirls forming a flame. "Now.. these"

The trio sat on the ground in a triangle formation and set their own red and gold eggs in their laps. Carefully they each rested a hand on the other twos eggs and the ttio were surrounded by golden flame like lights while three little cat dragons emerged from the eggs, one a shining bronze with deep green horns and whiskeres, one a deep ocean blue with pale silver horns and whiskers, and one a dark black with red horns and whiskers. When the three dragons found their place curled in each of their laps, the black in Zuko's, the blue is Sokka's and the Bronze in Suki's, the golden lights found their way onto their palms, finishing the symbol on their right and creating a swirling koi on their left.

Oce the lights settled the entire group stammered for words until Aang hopped up and excitedly exclaimed "dragon cats!!" To which the scaly cats meowed in unison at him. "Awwwww!!!!"

During the battle one the day of Sozins Comet their animals kept a close watch over all of them and once the battle ended and the trio were back together on the day of Zuko's Coronation they pledged to never be too far apart from one another. The animals were certainly a fun every day event for the staff the dear jays being named Floofy, Una, and Li while the cat dragons were named Kya, Gi, and Ursa.

On their wedding day the animals behaved their best, but once baby Izumi was born Kya attached herself to the baby, instantly imprinting on her. Then came baby Yue 3 years later, and it seemed that all but Una and Gi imprinted on this beautiful baby. After that came little Koda and Tanni 2 years after, these two were instantly Una and Gi's favorite duo.

If you're comfortable sharing, who are anula, lavie, tabby, rosie, and bourre? Im guessing their ocs but Id love to hear more about them! And what work they feature or are planning to be featured in 🥺🥺. But if its something personal, i didnt mean to pry

lmaooooooookay so you opened pandoras box and im sorry, but i loooove talking about my characters. those are all OCs ive created in like... the last several years. anula, lavie, and rosie’s fics are unlikely to ever see the light of day unfortunately.

anula was meant to be for an mcu fic that would follow the story from avengers 1 to endgame. mostly found family, i always waffled on whether i wanted it to be a romance or not. she was found as a feral child in india, previously having been experimented on (in a round about way, kind of like deadpool? ish).

lavie and rosie were for marauders era HP fics. rosie is a muggleborn who doesn’t really see the magic in magic-- she wants to get her studies done and go back to the muggle world to live in peace. it was meant to be a lovebombing fic with sirius. lavie’s was a time travel fix it where somewhere around the beginning of book seven, lavinia lestrange accidentally falls back in time while running from her family AKA death eaters who think she knows where her friends, the golden trio, are. so now shes stuck in the past, surrounded by idiots (the marauders) and useless old bastards (dumbledore) while she tries to prevent the second wizarding war from even starting.

those three are old lore. like, i started those fics at least five years ago and its unlikely i’ll ever manage to write them out, but i love the characters i created and didn’t want to abandon them. weird probably.

tabby is much newer, for a stranger things billy hargrove fic. this one i might actually continue to write, if i can manage to figure out whether its going to be a dark fic or not. also. a plot would be helpful.

bourre (boo-ray) is actually going to be the name of a new fic im starting, bc i haven’t quite decided on the characters name. but she’s gonna be for a kylo ren biker au fic, heavy yandere/lovebombing themes but not necessary “dark”.

you might also see tags like sanctioned inspo and posie inspo floating around too-- those are the fics i mentioned like twenty billion years ago when someone asked about upcoming projects; the 1920s clark kent mafia au and the poly!avengers a/b/o fic respectively.

it was originally callista but im 2 lazy for 2 syllables so call me cal! i’m 21 and use she/her pronouns !!

ii. Tell us about your roleplay history! Have you roleplayed for a long time, and have you had any unique experiences?

oh wow i’ve been roleplaying since..... my friend and i decided to continue the twilight series over texts back in the sixth grade so uhhh yeah a long time!!! i’ve been writing in general since 4th or 5th grade and i probably started roleplaying on tumblr at some ridiculous age like 14 or 15, but i really found my home here. i’ve had so many great experiences and can’t wait to make so many more.

iii. Do you have a favorite character from the Golden Trio era? If not, tell us about your favorite character from another era!

my favorite golden trio era character is definitely neville. i’ve always been a sucker for the more underrated characters and the fact that if just one small thing had been different, neville could have been the chosen one always gets me. i’m also obviously so friggin weak for his parallels to peter pettigrew and how he overcomes the same struggles that were peter’s downfall. i used to play a game reading the book called “are they talking about neville or peter” and its a lot harder than you’d expect.

iv. Favorite book or movie from the series? Feel free to tell us about your favorite scenes!

woof, i’ve always been such a big fan of prisoner of azkaban but i feel like we’ve all already, as a fandom, accepted that as the best of the harry potter books?? obviously your opinion is valid if you enjoy another one more but everyone i’ve ever talked about it with seems to agree with me on that aspect, so instead of saying the obvious answer i’ll go with the obscure choice: ootp, solely for the scene at st. mungo’s with neville’s parents.

v. What’s the best song for you to write to or that you can listen to on repeat?

ANYTHING HAYLEY KIYOKO, no but also this is gonna make me sound so basic but NOTHING gives me muse like halsey’s entire badlands album, hi i’m still stuck in 2015. i’m also really digging you should see me in a crown by billie eilish.

vi. Tell us a fun fact about yourself! Anything you want!

when i was in the sixth grade i finished my first novel, it was 16 chapters long and a complete rip off of twilight, but still i was very proud of myself. i also wrote some uh lily luna fanfiction on wattpad that got.... Pretty Popular, if any of my fans are reading this, i’m sorry i haven’t updated in 5 years.

Marauders Era: Peter Pettigrew

“So wait… hold on, you’re telling me you are an unregistered Animagus? An actual Animagi?” You asked, searching his face for any signs that he was joking.

He seemed embarrassed as if by him having the ability to change at will into an animal would have a great effect on your feelings for him. You and Peter had been friendly since around second year, started dating in fifth year and more than half a year on in your relationship he felt the need to tell you his secret.

“Well you see, Merlin, Remus is going to kill me for this, but he’s a werewolf (you gasped slightly) and James, Sirius and I became Animagi to help with his transformations.” He explained.

He still looked embarrassed, but you didn’t think that there was anything for him to be ashamed of. He had done all this to help his friend. Peter Pettigrew, the boy who had taken a full month to perfect ‘Wingardium Leviosa’ in first year had worked out how to become an Animagus.

He was always the underestimated one of the group. He wasn’t as intelligent as Remus, not as charming as Sirius, not as funny as James, but to you that didn’t matter; he was just Peter, Peter Pettigrew, and by your standards that was plenty.

He stood in front of you, thumbs twiddling, his breaths coming closer together than before. He was just a little, pointed faced man, you couldn’t believe that within a second he could become an animal.

Part of you wanted to know what animal he would become, wanted to see him transform into it, but he looked anxious enough and you decided against it.

“You really did all that just for Remus?” You asked, taking a tentative step toward him.

He nodded, eagerly awaiting what would happen next. You pulled him in for a hug. You had never truly realised, until this moment, how far Peter was willing to go for his friends.

Golden Trio Era: Neville Longbottom

You and Neville had been sorted into Gryffindor together. He wasn’t as popular as most of your other friends, being in the Quidditch team meant that you were quite friendly with the extroverted, popular Gryffindor’s, but you could always count on Neville being there for you more than anyone else.

Christmas time came around and you knew how difficult it was for Neville; he would spend the day in a ward at St Mungo’s where he would be around his parents, who he loved dearly, but had never had a proper conversation with his entire life. So instead of going home for Christmas in your sixth year, you decided to join Neville and his grandmother at St Mungo’s.

“Mum, Dad, this is my best friend in the entire world, Y/N, she’s in Gryffindor like me.” He said but their void eyes and translucent smiles gave no recollection that their son was talking.

You introduced yourself, gently shaking their hands and placing the small, carefully wrapped present you got for them under the enchanted tree which floated, rotating in between their armchairs.

You could tell that Neville felt sad but didn’t want to show it. Healers sprang around the room, trying to lift the Christmas spirit, but nothing could bring Neville’s mood up, and you didn’t blame him. You held his hand, a sign of comfort, compassion that told him you weren’t going anywhere.

When it was time to leave you saw a different sadness in Neville’s eyes, it wasn’t the sadness of his parents not being able to talk to him on Christmas, it was more of an ‘I’m going to miss you’ sadness.

“I love you, you know that right?” You said as you took his arm and guided him out the ward after saying goodbye to his parents.

He smiled, acknowledging he had heard you but his mind was still focussed on other things. You weren’t sure if he knew exactly how much you loved him, but you knew, maybe when the time was better, you’d tell him how you really felt.

And then you felt a tap on your shoulder, surprised you turned around hastily. Alice stood behind you, a vacant smile on her face, but she handed you something before turning around and heading back to her ward. You looked down and inside your cupped hands lay a crinkled, candy wrapper.

We had to start things off with a classic from the Queen. This 1971 single from the "Young, Gifted, and Black" album isn't short on legends, with Donny Hathaway on electric piano and organ, and Bernard Purdie doing the business on the drums. A much covered and much sampled record, all trying to get just a hint of the flavour of the original.

Pete Rock : Aretha

A perfect instrumental for me to come across this month, drawn from the golden period in which Pete Rock was on production for InI's unreleased (but heavily bootlegged) debut album. This beat wasn't used, but it comes to us courtesy of the 2017 "Lost Sessions" release alongside nine other previously-unreleased instrumentals.

[DJ Premier] Gang Starr : 92 Interlude

I just had to include this - an interlude beat from the "Daily Operation" LP that built around just a tiny incidental piece of a famous Aretha Franklin track and put other producers on notice when it comes to how Primo picks gold!

JR & PH7 ft. Chuuwee : Meadowview Morning

Thank you Spotify for dropping this one into one of my playlists! The German producers JR and PH7 have made a brief appearance on the show previously, but their work on this track from "The South Sac Mack" is really something. They come up with a jazzy but sombre instrumental which perfectly fits the trio of Sacramento MCs telling tales of life in their corner of the world.

Hieroglyphics : Oakland Blackouts

Keeping it over on the West Coast, the Hiero crew have always been reliable as a source of bars upon bars. The "3rd Eye Vision" album is creeping towards twenty years old, but is still an excellent listen! Opio of Souls of Mischief is on production for this one.

Termanology : Are You Sure?

We don't hear Erick Sermon's name brought up enough when it comes to some of the greatest producers, so I'm glad Termanology linked up with him for this head-nod groove on his latest album "Bad Decisions". This is almost Term's version of Gang Starr's "The Planet", with him telling the story of coming to New York from Massachusetts and having to work to establish and hold his position. I won't give away the hook sample in case it's uncleared, but it's also a quality record :)

Sean Price : Director's Cut

This one has an unusual structure - a series of short two-bar "scenes" separated by two-bar sections of commentary. It's raw street business with a dash of humour as you'd expect from Sean P, gracing the Khrysis beat with some classic jewels. If you like this track, then the "Jesus Price Supastar" LP is a must in your collection.

DJ Agent M : Keeping Me In The Dark

Agent M is a producer and DJ from Leeds whose 2018 beat tape "Closure" is the sound of him working through a period of loss. This track is based around a classic sample, which is not just flipped for the sonics but also for the title.

Kev Brown : Voltron

It's been an extremely long wait for a proper follow-up to Kev Brown's 2005 debut LP "I Do What I Do", but finally he returns with "Homework" - twenty-nine tracks for a grateful audience! It's a partly vocal and partly instrumental album, with many tracks clocking in at under two minutes long. This was an initial standout for me, and while it's tickling my head as though there's a familiar sample, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that everything was played from scratch - Kev certainly has the capability.

The Game ft. Faith Evans : Don't Need Your Love

I've got to be honest - the lead-up to the release of The Game's debut album, "The Documentary" felt like one of the first times I felt as though the industry was really trying to force-feed an artist into the scene. He'd only been rapping for a relatively short time (for that era) before this LP came out, and has to be credited for building his skills in such a short time, but the Dr. Dre co-sign and G-Unit affiliation was of course what put him over the top. He's still active nowadays though, and has absolutely earned his place. Anyway, the first album had two tracks I really enjoyed - "Put You On The Game" and this, a track straight from the heart with Faith Evans blessing the hook. Havoc of Mobb Deep is on production with a beat that isn't what you might expect from him in terms of sound, but is right there at the standard of quality that he'd set.

DJ Cam ft. Cameo : Love Junkee (Dilla Remix)

You may or may not know it, but you cannot deny that this is a serious tune! The original was cool, in a relaxed and organic way, with Cameo an extremely welcome guest to proceedings, but Dilla turned it into a banger. Incredibly minimal on the surface, but packed with lots of little subtleties if you listen closely enough. If you can hear past that thumping low end! Get yourself a digital copy of both versions, and thank me later.

Zapp : Computer Love

I've said it before, but Zapp were something like fifteen years ahead of the advent of internet dating! This is a stone classic record, sampled and flipped countless times, and one which I'm glad to have enjoyed as a new track when it was released back in 1985! Shirley Murdock features as half of the lead vocal duet alongside Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band, and the great Roger Troutman (RIP), who also wrote the song, comes in on the talkbox. Apparently Charlie Wilson's record label thought this wasn't going to be a hit...I assume much crow has been eaten since! You can find this as a single, on the "The New Zapp IV U" album, and on many compilations.

Onra : Wait A Minute

This needed a bit of additional looping to be long enough to fit here, but it fit so well in terms of sound that it had to be done. It's taken from the new "Nobody Has To Know" album, the instrumental story of a secret relationship.

Sean Price : 60 Bar Dash

Sean P again with a stream of the disrespectful lines we love him for, on a record from relatively early in his solo career - you can find this on the B-side of the "Boom Bye Yeah" 12" single. PF Cuttin is on production, working a break you might know from the first Diamond D album.

De La Soul : The Art Of Getting Jumped

I always enjoyed this one and the 80s Aretha sample that makes up the hook! Underrated but big tune from the "Art Official Intelligence : Mosaic Thump" album, all about those times when the pack strikes and isn't concerned with fighting fair...

Eric B & Rakim : Set 'Em Straight

If you don't have the "Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em" album, then you probably don't know this track - it wasn't a single, it's not a club track, but my goodness, it's dope. The title is perfect, as Rakim takes the time to primarily put other MCs in check, but also correct one or two false rumours of the time, including that that he was supposedly locked up on Rikers Island for selling drugs. Pure heat from the very early 90s.

Blade : Rough It Up

Long before his union with Mark B (RIP) that many of you will know him for, Blade was an MC who absolutely personified the grind and the real DIY attitude. His first LP, "The Lion Goes From Strength To Strength", was in my opinion the original crowd-funded album, and the determined and defiant nature required to undertake such a task in 1991 is evident on this early 12"! He's talking about his real life right down to washing dishes to pay the bills, over a soup of funk cooked up by his own hand alongside the underground legendary engineer/producer "No Sleep" Nigel. I learned about this record when Pete Tong played it as a brand new tune on Radio 1, and it made me a Blade fan for life.

K-Def : Get A Clue

I needed something funky for this spot, and with the help of a bit of looping to make it a suitable length, I found it on K-Def's "Willie Boo Boo" collection, which is one that the beat heads should definitely have in their collections.

Aretha Franklin : Young, Gifted, and Black

What can you say? I thought this soaring anthem would be a great record to end the episode on. Nina Simone was the original writer (with Weldon Irvine) and performer of this song, back in 1969, but just three years later Aretha released this incredible version as the title track of her eighteenth (!) studio album. I certainly remember hearing many versions of this track as a child, and this is the perfect time to bring it out for all of you. Turn up the volume and take in the mastery.
