ur so right that totally makes sense. i am such a hopeless romantic and i swear that’s one of the things that makes me so attracted to hyunjin. like he’s just so emotionally intelligent yk ?? he just gets it. and i love that he shows his love for things (love itself specifically) through his artwork. i’ve always done the same so it’s so nice to have an idol that i feel like is so similar to me yk? he’s 100% a man written by a woman

Just saw some posts about how all the recent irritating changes at tumblr were made for the purpose of chasing growth.

hi copper!!! this is a fantastic question!

so obviously typical irl rats have far shorter lifespans than the average irl tortoise. according to google (yes, be awed by my spectacularly in-depth wealth of research) the average pet rat lives between 2-4 years ish, and the oldest on record lived to be about 7. meanwhile, an African spurred tortoise (Splinter's species) averages more around a 50ish year lifespan in captivity, tho is suspected to possibly exceed 75 or more in the wild.

Now, the mutation does give us a lot of wiggle room for playing with these numbers. For the rat sons boys, id say their natural lifespan probably clocks in at about 45-55 years old? definitely not old by human standards, but not young young either. (though, its also important to note that the boys were exposed to the mutagen just days after being born.)

For Splinter, meanwhile, aging is slightly more complicated. He lived the vast majority of his life as a regular normal African spurred tortoise (well, non-mutated at least. there were perhaps some shenanigans of a more mystical variety going on before he was mutated, but thats a separate matter) He was about 70ish i think? when the boys were born and they were all exposed to the mutagen. so he is already distinctly an old man turtle papa. id guess he'd probably still have another eh lets say 25-30 years after his mutation. he could probably push it a little farther even with some mystic nonsense, but when push comes to shove id say his 'natural' post-mutation lifespan would put his death like a solid decade or two before his sons.

of course, the tricky part of the matter is that theres no way for Splinter to know any of this. theres no way for him to know how the mutation affected them all, or if it even affected them all in the same way. especially since the boys dont show many physical signs of mutation for the first few years, and just kinda look like normal rats, (albeit with a more human sort of intelligence) — what sort of health standard do you hold them to? what if they simply dont show external signs of sickness or old age anymore? how do you actually know if something is wrong?

for a while there Splinter is very worried that one of his babies will just essentially reach the end of their normal rat lifespan, fall and not get up again.

so mostly, he just tries to live in the moment, enjoying whatever time he does have with his little ones, taking each day as a gift <3

It would be so funny if the one dish that Dottore could cook only healed reader. What it does to other playable characters is...questionable, to say the least. It always turns into his signature dish, possibly a small dessert (for the sake of the drabble below + I could imagine reader teaching Dottore to make some cookies), so imagine:

"Affection": Dottore's signature dish. It's a simple plate of cookies, nothing more and nothing less. While you're a bit skeptical of the slightly charred edges, [Name] looks proud of their lover's work, and the piercing red gaze of the Doctor convinces you to try at least one...

...you end up choking immediately. Before you can question what Dottore put in those cookies, [Name] tries one for themselves, muttering something about how they were just fine and that you were being mean. Perhaps it was for the best that you let [Name] devour his cooking, for everyone else's sake.

The cookies would look really amateurish, especially compared to what [Name] can make, there's not even a glass of milk with it, not to mention how he had to throw out a few because the bottom was burnt to oblivion... Also, it seems that there are way more chocolate chips in them than there should be...? But that doesn't matter, [Name] reassures you! They love these cookies and have tried them many times! Looks are just deceiving!

The contrast between [Name]'s bright, hopeful expression and Dottore's less-than-amiable one is enough to convince (force?) you into taking a bite of a mysterious cookie. Unfortunately, it does not live up to [Name]'s hype. Far, far, from it... Thankfully, your will to live another day overcomes the sensation of nearly succumbing to the cookie.

Meanwhile, [Name] snatches the plate from you and huffs as they bite into another cookie with no hesitation, then kisses the Harbinger on the cheek, complimenting him on how far he's come on his cooking journey. Perhaps [Name] can only taste the sweet love from their beloved imbued within these cookies rather than the actual taste.

They seem to be a couple that you should stay away from...

when toshiro got on laios ass for being inconsiderate and never thinking about how his actions affect others like he was mean abt it but hes not wrong. Thats a pretty major character flaw and a pattern of behavior for laios — w not choosing jobs that made money for namari who is in a pretty dire financial situation where she cant even get off the island and has to go adventuring in the dungeon to get out of debt, who even explicitly brought this up, eating marcilles familiar immediately even tho she was attached to it, kidnapping shuro into his party and putting him in life threatening situations without like really checking he wanted to be there…?, wanting to see if izutsumi has more than one set of nipples when dehumanization is a HUGE huge issue for her the list goes on and on and on. Like when a friend does this to you its just kinda annoying but when ur the leader u really should be checking if everyones needs r met without them telling u. Like the autism plays a factor for sure, his cultural upbringing plays a factor for sure, but as ppl regardless I think u gotta step up to meet the needs of ppl in the moment or realize u shouldnt be calling the shots. just bc its influenced by factors out of ur control does not make it not a serious character flaw. And its written as such in the story.

#It makes him an interesting character w nuance and i like him for it #its a pretty big flaw dungeon meshi hits over ur head several times #And part of his character arc to grow as a leader who can communicate and take other ppls needs into consideration effectively so he can #be an effective king (an ending im still like kinda confused abt like i get its thematically full circle moment and a love #letter to the genre but like WHAT)#Granted ppl in glass houses shouldnt throw stones since shuros also a poor leader (worse than laios)#to the point that i think its a stretch to say it wasnt maizuru leading that party like “shuros party” i mean he sure was in their proximit #but his opinion does actually matter to laios and gets him to listen so ig it had to be said 😔#dungeon meshi spoilers #Laios touden #But like it was not the first time this was brought up to him… cmon man #Toshiro is a sheltered rich kid with no conflict resolution skills who at least was kept materially comfortable his entire life #tho on the other fronts… genuinely he wouldve been happier if he wasnt born into that family #and when hes angry his actions become vicious and targeted to a shocking degree #but his assessment of situations tend to be accurate to a degree thats surprising for a person from another culture thats only been there #For 2 yrs #toshiro nakamoto #in da tags i suppose #Shuro
