HGPC 17 - 21 | Koi to Producer 2 - 6 | Appare 5 - 8 | Fugou Keiji 4 - 6
...only just realised I was missing some tags. They should be there now or soon.
HGPC 17
Why do I get the feeling the Sawaizumi family will be held hostage one day…? (Maybe I’m just being negative?)
The episode title mentions Chiyu by name, so I wonder why the translation didn’t…
Customer service! You can’t get away from it, even in COVID times…! (Impressive!)
Hmm…you can actually read part of the booking for the Smiths in the book if you know the kanji.
I thought the Smiths would speak in English, but they actually speak in fluent Japanese if the word “susume” was any indication.
Ah, Sukoyaka sweet buns! (from the other episode about the festival)
HGPC 18
Don’t burn down your house with scented candles, kids!
Also remember to use your knees when lifting heavy boxes! (<- says a charity store volunteer, who does this stuff on the regular)
These days the mascots usually have a human form. I wonder if this is implying that particular direction…? (I woke up today and was craving a certain oneshot I’d read during my scanlation days…if it is, it would fill that niche nicely.)
I wonder if the kids will recognise this Ashita no Joe parody…?
HGPC 19
“…since you were young?”
Oh! Element of Wind again!
Koi to Producer 2
This almost feels like Victor is assigning a school project to Protag-chan…it’s a bit sad, really.
It’s nice they let Protag-chan have a personality.
It’s fine if you can’t read the katakana, but Gavin’s name is Haku in Japanese, so it throws out the immersion somewhat…also, I know I shouldn’t be complaining – I’m the target audience here – but do these guys look kinda similar or what…? (partially kidding)
High school sweethearts, huh? “Childhood friends” is my favourite angle of a romantic relationship, but it gets so overused by harems it comes around to being boring…!
I-Is this Stand My Heroes…?! (LOL…?)
Can we not with 1st person cam…?
As cute and dorky as this stuff gets…how does Gavin never get found?! Does nobody ever look up in this city?!? (I thought Evolvers were meant to be a secret…?)
GPS tracker? That’s no better than large corporations using your location data…Isn’t that creepy…?
Hold on, when did she get his phone number? You would assume it was before this entire chase after the boy happened, but still…?
LOL, the English on the board.
This anime is gonna cause me some frustration, but it gives the good stuff in roughly equal measure. It seems to omit the fact you interact via phone with your bois for intimacy (in the game).
Koi to Producer 3
LOL, that’s so clearly Gavin…
By googling, you find out Uptown and Queens are in New York.
Ohmygosh! Did the creators know I love the trope where only people with superpowers can move in certain circumstances?!
Uh…his name is Kira in Japanese? Did someone read the katakana wrong?
Pictured: Depressed bishonen eating bad pudding. (…That joke sounds better in my head. I forgot what meme I was meant to be parodying there, but I had a meme in mind.)
Lemme guess…this man (I dunno if it’s one of the previous bishies with an identical face or a new one) is looking for MC-chan. *sigh* Update: Yep, just Victor again. To be honest, I don’t like anyone who calls harsh words “their sign of love” – love should be honest and upfront. That’s how it becomes heartmelting.
Koi to Producer 4
Okay, in order, it seems to be hexadecimals, Javascript (you can tell from the “const”), some kind of profiles which are apparently for human lab rats (which seem to have some kind of nonsense filler text), a DNA model and DNA bases (ACGT).
The text on the screen says something along the lines of this being an official broadcast of this man’s arrest and this man was a genetic researcher. Obviously, if I wanted to put more attention into what it meant, I would, but I won’t sweat the details this time (because it doesn’t seem to impact the plot).
The guy’s name is Minor because minor key (geddit?)…that’s my guess.
I started playing the game due to this anime, if you didn’t know, and I unlocked an expert in ch. 2. I thought he was Minor, but turns out his name is Spine (an older man).
The diary, true to form, contains details about either one case or several cases, two involving children. The bottom of the 1st page says “if it’s fake, I’ll laugh”.
Hey, I once told Crunchyroll I wanted an anime about hacking (so is this a dream come true? I reveal all in the next sentence!). Hackers don’t congregate like this…they’d be too conspicuous, even with the secret hideout!
The code in the top left appears to be…C? I think? (Note they declare “unsigned int”.)
Kiro sometimes reminds me of Masayoshi (SamFlam)…it puts a derpy smile on my face.
*blah blah blah I’m Key* - Wuh…? F*** you, Kiro!!! (There is such a thing as piling too much cool stuff on to a character, y’know – I’m guilty of it in my own writing.)
3684 isn’t a very safe password (says someone who once aspired to be in cybersecurity).
What bugs me is that Simon is a perfectly fine name…it’s just a bit boring. Kiro/Kira I get (a bit), but Lucien/Simon…? *shrugs*
Ohh! Based MAPPA! Thank you for making this adaption look great!
Koi to Producer 5
Oh, I got an SR in the game recently and it has a line like, “Only a fool stays up all night to do others’ work. Victor talks like that a lot…
The sign so obviously says “Renka”, meaning “love flower”. “Loveland” really is a step down from that…
Where’s Gavin’s guest badge…?
“Happiness Noodle Store”…?
“…the end of our first year…”
If this weren’t a Chinese work by origin (or Japanese work by translation), I’m sure Protag-chan would have gone after Gavin, despite being told the contrary.
Kanya = Minor. I’ll take a note of that.
One of the books behind Minor says “Gale Start”…hmm…
That GPS tracker is still unintentionally creepy, IMHO.
Koi to Producer 6
…oh. (dejected) Probably a beach episode or something.
What the actual heck was going on with Lucien…? It’s like he was having a tiny stroke there…
Lucien’s power is listed as “???” in the game. I thought he was an aura-reader when he said “show me your colour”, but that shield thing he did means he might just have various psychic powers…? *shrugs* We’ll find out eventually.
Running in heels is hard…
LOL, that’s so clearly recreating a CG from one of the cards.
This is the 2nd time this has gone pseudo-isekai. As much as I like to joke about it…I fully expect someone to be sent to another world at this point.
I couldn’t possibly see Victor on any kind of game show, come to think of it.
Appare 5
This guy’s middle name is “Rich”! That’s silly!
A boombox from the 19th century…makes sense, somehow.
I only just (?) realised Al has a tiny tie on his usual outfit.
Back to the beginning already…just start!
Appare 6
…I just realised Appare mouths “I got it!” in the OP.
Al Lion (sic…?)
Isn’t Sofia in that train…? Update: She might have been, she might not. Hard to tell when they don’t confirm.
This series seriously could’ve done with a dub…Even with weird hokey Hetalia accents, it would be good stuff.
These bunches of people at designated points…reminds me of the book I was reading while in Japan. The Long Walk by Stephen King (part of a compilation). It still gives me shivers down my spine when I remember it.
This “leave in the middle of the night” thing reminds me of the Amazing Race.
“Valley of Despair” is made-up, but Death Valley exists. It’s one of the hottest places on earth, hence the name.
LOL, Kosame scores himself one (1) prarie dog and two (2) Hototos.
I thought Appare was being inconsiderate at first…but he’s being considerate, in his own way.
Oh! I didn’t realise, but Saito Soma is Al.
Appare 7
“It’s not one plus one, but one times one!” – LOL.
Hybrid engine? In the 1900s? Hmm…
LOL, I think Al just did a hadouken.
This stuff’s like an animated Galaxy Brain meme! It’s amazing!
I managed to successfully predict – without watching ahead – Appare would catch himself with his traps.
Kosame with his hair down…is rare. Not exactly attractive because we have to care about the racers rather than lust after them (and the artstyle actually prevents me from doing so, because it’s deliberately quite cartoony), but it’s rare.
Appare is surprisingly childish…that’s what makes him more than a Sheldon Cooper, I think.
The spelling of the place is actually “Ely”, if Google-sensei is any indication. C’mon, subbers! You’re American (most likely)! Can’t you put in the legwork (or the Google-fu) to discover what place in Nevada this is?!
Subbers make characters say “shit” a lot in this show, hmm? (contemplative)
Now this evil guy here *points to screen*…that’s hair I like.
Appare 8
I just love this OP…don’t you?
I like how the steam/gas boat/car has Chinese numerals on its dial.
Kosame means “small rain”, so “heavy rain” is obviously to contrast that.
The Hototo joke never gets old.
I thought I just saw someone leave the saloon…
Nice hair + terrible face = bad equation.
I can almost imagine the wee-oo-wee-oo-ooooooo…wah-wah-wahhh…(You know the one sound snippet, right? The one theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - or whatever movie it is – that maybe involves a tumbleweed rolling across the screen, and then a huge shootout? If you don’t know it, play a sample on this Wikipedia page!) playing in the background.
It’s convenient the prarie dog didn’t appear when Hototo (old) had his revenge spree.
I noticed there’s a bit of a mark under Kosame’s left eye…it suggests that he’s been crying (or maybe it shows tiredness from the race…?), but it’s not that noticeable.
So that’s the real Gil…and tose were his henchmen that threatened to hang everyone bar Kosame. Got it.
(notes to self) So, for charting a course with Appare Ranman!, it’s Los Angeles -> Death Valley -> Ely -> Denver -> ??? -> New York. Got it.
Fugou Keiji 4
“Daisuke-sama” isn’t “Lord Daisuke”, it would be “Sir Daisuke”, I think…but “lord” has a proper translation in Japanese.
The truck has a Shinagawa licence plate. Anime really does like Shinagawa, huh? (Based on ID: INVADED and this.)
I think it’ll be interesting to see Kambe handle this without HEUSC.
The board for Sanchome (which is equivalent to a suburb…or a county, I guess?) has posters saying stuff like “take your dog poop home” and “let’s protect the environment!” (technically, it says “let’s protect the region/area!”, but that doesn’t translate right. There’s even a flea market. Still, those posters don’t have any big hints…not that I know of so far.
I kind of forgot that dude was the gardener for Kambe’s house…er, mansion.
I noticed a poster in the kouban says haru (spring) on it. That’s probably the same one that Haru’s name is signified by, assuming that’s not in combo with another character or few.
Oh great…the sister is an overbearing one.
Ahh…he doesn’t like natto. So that’s the problem. Daisuke is childish (like Appare)…Note I don’t like natto either, but I wouldn’t run away from home (or similar) because I was fed natto.
I noticed Kambe uses shinseki (which doesn’t refer to close family). “Relative” is a correct translation of that word, I just wanted to check that word was the right one for the context.
There’s a green tea bottle by the sink…I don’t think I’d mistake that shade of green for anything else.
LOL, I didn’t think we’d actually get to see Kambe with his hair “down”, so to speak. It’s…an interesting look, for sure.
Oh my gosh! It cost him (Haru) $15!!! (LOL, cheapskate…says the cheapskate…*suddenly droops and stops laughing*) Update: Sorry about the sudden downer there. I was having what the kids these days call a “woke moment”…at least, I think that’s how they use that term.
…I’d watch that crime drama. It’s funny.
Just realised Kato has an older model of phone than Kambe does.
This episode was kinda like a Tokyo Sonata kind of thing, huh? The sensational in the middle of the not-so-sensational…”sensational” for this show, anyway.
Those kids look like the ones from Erased.
*lightbulb goes off in brain* What if the dog went to Kambe’s…?
Can Suzue actually hear HEUSC while Kambe is using it…? $2.46 though…that is cheap, in comparison to the ham.
This was the cheapest episode so far (about $550)…probably because it was an insight into Kato’s life, more than Kambe’s.
Fugou Keiji 5
The flag seems to be based on Cameroon’s (which is in Africa, not America) and the “Arita Kinen” seems to refer to Arima Kinen, meaning this episode is set around Christmas-ish. Credit goes to Kambe Zaibatsu on this show.
I-It’s a Humvee!
Polyadoll (sic)…?
The Poliador guy speaks perfect Japanese…(?)
The star! It’s a key thingy!
I thought Kamei was the 1st Division dude with the reddish hair. Turns out it was the blonde…? Update: Redhead is Hoshino.
Ummmmmm…he was reading porn…? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh…okayyyyyyyyyyyyy…
…oh, the costs for Kambe’s tuxedo are on there. So’s the cost for repairing the bike Suzue rode.
Fugou Keiji 6
I never knew there were so many money proverbs to be used as episode titles…
What is Kambe doing with his hands…? He’s not even using the computer.
Imura seems to use a Windows 10 with Cortana on the taskbar.
HGPC 20
What’s with all the Naruto running this episode…?
HGPC 21

Vampire!Roman headcanons
So, this is part of my Being Human AU, based on the awesome show Being Human. This one focusses mainly on Roman and a bit on his relationships with the others.
This turned out much longer than I originally intended oml
Warnings: Mentions of blood, death, the plague, that's it, I think
He was bitten when he was around 20
It happened at night, when Roman was alone in his chambers
It’s a miracle the intruder snuck into his room, but it’s a vampire we’re talking about so what’s more miraculous?
After that, he just… disappeared
He travelled across England at first
But there were too many memories, and after a few decades it got painful
So many people died
And then the Plague came and even more people died
He just had to get out
So he did
And he travelled the world after that, watching how society changes
He would stay somewhere for a while and then leave if staying got too risky
Either because he went a little too far with his blood-drinking needs, or because too many people close to him had died
Sometimes he’d leave if all his friends were dead, and staying around just hurt him too much
He was in Rome when the Renaissance started and he still loves every memory he made there
Seeing the world changing like that… it was fantastic
Loves ancient mythologies
He probably knew a lot of famous painters let’s be real
I also really like the thought of him knowing Hal (an awesome vampire in the show who’s cool)
Maybe he was the one who recruited Hal? I’m not sure if it fits in the show’s canon though
He has at least heard of him because every vampire has
Roman is a hella gay vamp
Goes to pride every year he’s able to
Is so happy pride exists because he needed that when he was a young 100 vamp
Rome was probably one of the best periods of his life and he never wanted to leave
But after a while, when everyone he knew was dead and he couldn’t stand to be there for much longer
So he continued his travels
He travelled through Europe and Asia
Somewhere in the 1880s/1890s he briefly joined the Old Ones
The Old Ones are a group of vampires who are… well… pretty old
They’re also super powerful, immune to religious symbols, and they’ve got more cool perks
But Roman wasn’t too fond of their way of living, so he left them and returned to England in 1915 to fight in the war
After the war, he went to America
He didn’t want to stay in England anymore
Too many painful memories
That was when he decided he wanted to stop drinking blood
Or try at least, because it is fucking hard
And he started to remember the people he killed and he couldn’t stop thinking about it and he hated it, but he hated blood more, even though he needed it so much
At first, he went to New York first and travelled a bit
He met Logan in 2011
It was in Michigan somewhere
He saved Logan from being beaten up by asshole vampires but that’s a story for another day
They weren’t super close at first, but Roman helped Logan find his way in the supernatural world, Logan helped Roman find his way in the modern world, and they grew pretty close
Logan tried to help Roman with his resolution to stop drinking blood but he didn’t know how to help
Roman appreciated the help though
After a pretty bad relapse, Roman decided he had to move and Logan insisted on going along, even though Roman protested this
But Logan didn’t give up so they moved in together
They moved to Florida
Once they moved into their house, he really had to get used to Patton being around, but he warmed up to the ghost pretty quickly
It was strange, though
He has a lot of nightmares
About the night he was turned into a vampire, about the people he killed, about the wars he fought
It’s not unusual for him to wake up in the middle of the night, convinced he is in the middle of a war, or back in medieval England
At first, Patton tried his best to comfort Roman. He didn’t need to sleep anyways
But it was difficult because Patton had no idea what it was like, and Roman hardly told anything about his nightmares
Roman liked having someone around at night, though
When Virgil moved in, he grew more open about his dreams
He wasn’t planning on it, but he plans on spending the rest of his life with Virgil and he can’t exactly hide his nightmares for all of eternity
And once he does, he’s glad he opened up to Virgil
Virge seems to know exactly what to do to help him out and his presence is a comfort
Sometimes, Roman will wake up thinking he is in the middle ages and he will be disoriented for a while, before Virgil reminds him that it’s 2018 and everything is fine
Roman is so intrigued by modern technology
I mean, phones can fit entire portraits in them, and it takes just a few seconds to make?
You can contact someone on the other side of the world in mere seconds?
Witchcraft, that’s got to be it
Smartphones don’t always work well for him, because his touch is pretty cold but that doesn’t stop him
Huge space geek
Believed the moon landing was fake for a little over 50 years, though
He just couldn’t believe that something was out there and that people can walk on that something
Still in denial about it
But Logan knows
In fact, he was the one who told Roman it was real
He still teases Ro about it every now and again
But yeah space geek Ro
Can't believe there are things out there other than small dots of light
Gets defensive when people make flat Earth memes because he believed that for ages
“I mean, it’s not that unbelievable, right? You can’t see that it’s round, what else are we supposed to believe? How were we supposed to know it was round?”
Every time he brings it up, the others reassure him that it's a joke and it's not meant to ridicule him or whatever
Still forgets the concept of round Earth sometimes
Same with the heliocentric model
"You can see the sun moving! How can it move across the sky if it isn't actually moving? It doesn’t make any sense!"
He has had a lot of discussions about this with Logan
Still doesn’t understand it
Loves Candy Crush
“It is so colourful and cute! How does one come up with this ingenious design?”
The others don’t tell him that there are tons of other games like it
He texts like parents
You know, using correct grammar, lots of emojis
I’m looking forwards to the movie *tons of emojis but for some reason I couldn't get them to work*.
He used to start every text he sent with a “hello (…),” or something similar and he used to end them with a signature thing
But the other convinced him that everyone knew it was him sending the texts and that it was only more effort for him
So he stopped that
The emojis and correct grammar still stand tho
Ok.
Virgil and Patton still haven’t convinced him to give up the ‘Ok.’
It’s agony
He is adorably naïve when it comes to spam and phishing mails
He’s lucky the others are there to stop him from clicking the damn link
“But it says right here that I still have to pay-”
“That’s a lie, darling, they just want your money.”
“But-”
“Just delete the mail.”
Always goes to Logan when he has a problem with technology
Constantly mixes up the slang he learned across the ages
“Don’t flip your wig, Lo! Everything is going to be fine.”
“I had a gas tonight, guys.”
But no one knows what it means
The fifties slang are his favourite. They’re just so fun.
He also uses medieval words a lot, as that is what he grew up with
Keeps calling water Adam’s ale
One time Logan got hurt and he requested an ‘acopon’
No one knew what he meant and it took him ages to explain because he couldn’t come up with the modern equivalent of the word (which would be a plaster)
Sometimes he’ll be stuck in like medieval language for an entire day and no one will understand what he’s saying
Like, it sounds kind of familiar, but not familiar enough to be sure of the meaning
It’s really frustrating to all of them
Also misuses modern slang a lot
“Would you look at the weather outside? It is so bright, and not a single cloud! How wonderfully lit!”
“I… I’m not sure lit means what you think it does, buddy.”
It is hilarious
When he starts dating Virgil, he finds out about Vine and because Virgil loves vines so much, he starts watching them too so he can understand the references and surprise Virge by making references himself
But he gets them wrong a lot too
One day, Logan and Patton are talking in the kitchen
Roman just looks at them and turns to Virgil with a
“And they were roommates”
Virgil almost chokes on his drink
“Oh my god, they were roommates”
Roman’s favourite vine is the croissant one
“I could have dropped my croissant” becomes his thing
It’s cute, but it starts getting annoying when he says it to everything
The others just let him be, he is a 700-year old dork, he needs this
He is upset he doesn’t show up on camera, because otherwise, he’d be all over vine
He had so many great ideas for vines
He has definitely seen some of his old stuff in museums
“Oh my goodness, my old sword!”
For a 700+-year old vampire, he doesn’t know when to chill
But he just gets excited when he sees his stuff
At one point in his life, he has definitely seen an old portrait of him in a museum
And someone definitely saw him looking at it
And they definitely saw the resemblance
And they definitely told Roman about it
He just nodded and told the person that his friends told him about it too
Wishes he could just steal the portrait because it makes him look so good and handsome
He thought about it, but quickly realized that telling staff of the museum that “he wants this portrait because it is him” would sound just a tad… weird
He’s really upset about it
Gets really nostalgic a lot
He has experienced so many things and seen so many amazing things
Met so many people
He misses them a lot
It just hurts to know that you’ll outlive most people you will meet in your life
He has always tried not to get too attached to people because they’re going to die anyways
But somewhere along the way, he let this attitude go
One way or another, he always grew to like a few people
He likes to tell his friends about what he remembers of his travels and experiences
Especially Logan, cause that man is a fucking history nerd
Roman loves Logan so much, because he’s so smart
They have the best conversations
A lot of them are about some event in history, or about modern-day society, cause that still confuses Roman
Loves cartoons
They’re just so cute and so amazing and sweet
He and Patton watch a lot of them together
As a ghost, Patton doesn’t need to sleep, so sometimes they will stay up until four am binge-watching some cartoon
Virgil and Logan try to tell them to stop – especially Roman
But it doesn’t work
Roman is very protective over Logan, because he is the only mortal of their group
Of course, he and Virgil can still die, but there’s a smaller risk of it happening
Patton is already dead
But Logan can still die
And Roman wants to keep Logan around as long as possible
So every time something even remotely dangerous happens around Logan, Roman is there to safe him.
Can’t have their favourite werewolf die
He is scared to lose Logan, but he knows it is inevitable
He just wished it would be different
Roman has quite a few of vampire contacts – they need to work together in order to avoid being discovered, after all
I mean it would be weird to have a passport that says you were born in 1296
So there are vampires to take care of that
Roman knows quite a lot of them personally and they always question his scent
It’s blood-like, as it is supposed to be, but there is a hint of dog
Roman mostly says that it’s because he has a dog, but there are a few people who know he doesn’t have a dog
There’s one or two who know about Logan and they don’t understand him
Why would a vampire be friends with a werewolf? That is unheard of
Roman is also friends with a few vampires who like to organize dog fights
Where a werewolf – during full moon – is caged with a human, who has a knife. At the end of the night, just one survives
And Roman lives in constant fear that one day, they will go after Logan for their sick forms of entertainment
Roman has seen a few dog fights when he was younger, and it is absolutely horrible
He doesn’t want Logan to have to go through that
And then there’s the risk of Logan dying, which makes it even worse
He thought about asking them to not capture Logan, but he feared that they would do it on purpose, just to spite him
So Roman thought of a system
If Logan was ever out and vampires came up to him, he would call Roman, but not say anything
Roman is in his emergency contacts, so that works well
And if Roman heard what was going on, he would track Logan’s phone to see where he was going – taking a few wooden stakes with him – and save his friend
There’s no way he would allow them to put Logan through something as horrible as a dog fight
Sometimes, the age difference between him and Virgil is quite… difficult
They’re both from different generations, obviously, and their experiences are just totally different
They try their best to understand the other, but it’s difficult sometimes
Virgil doesn’t know what it’s like to fight in a war, to see your best friends dying, to wander the earth, knowing that you will never die. He doesn’t know what it’s like to see half your city dying to the Plague
Virgil tries
But he just doesn’t understand
But it’s fine, because Roman loves him and they will have an eternity together to understand each other
He really loves Virgil a lot dude
On multiple occasions, he’s written Virgil a super romantic love letter
You know, one of those extra ones
Super extra
Lots of “my love”, “my darling”, lots of romance
But it’s cute
Virgil has kept every one of those letters
Roman listens to classical music a lot
But he also sort of likes rock
Nothing too heavy though
He can handle most genres though, but rock and classical music are some of his faves
Tries to headbang
But he can’t do it
Virgil says it’s because he’s to old for that crap
Roman doesn’t believe him
He’s young at heart how dare Virgil
Yeah Roman is v cute

Awesome Fic Writer! Congrats, you rock! So that all of your readers can shower you with some extra love today, please tell us your five stories of yours and why you like them and then send this to another five fic authors you think deserve this title!
hhhhhh ilysm,,,, i’m gonna send it to four bc u would be five and u have already done it
Legacy of Power - PR 2017/TV crossover; i mean, OF COURSE,,, i love this bitch just as much as i hate her,,,,,,, lovingly, of course. god, she’s so stressful. i have done SO much to work her tv/movie ass into continuity with each other but she’s ambitious and high maintenance by default so it makes sense. the amount of research i’ve put in for legacy - whether it’s with “did this meme exist in 2016 so the reboot kids can reference it” or with “does this plot point make sense and is in-character” - is so GRAND like,,,, honestly,,, it has to be me. it HAS to be me writing this, it wouldn’t be right with anyone else. that’s slightly conceited but like. i’m such a detailed-oriented person like my mind is just LIKE THAT,,,, legacy has to be mine, it’s only mine. i love it. i love it so much. i mean i hate that i thought i’d be further along after a year’s point but i LOVE where i am with it now because i’ve changed it from the original outline so much, for the better. it’s going to be beautiful when i finish it. it’s going to be SO beautiful, i can’t wait. (i mean, obviously, i have to wait because i’m like only fucking halfway, but.)
you know the two of us are just young gods - PR 2017/Shattered Grid crossover; i wish ryan parrott would come fight me in a denny’s parking lot bc i had such HOPES AND DREAMS like I FUCKING WROTE THIS FIC IN EIGHT HOURS AFTER GGPR #9 DROPPED,,,, and HERE WE ARE,, MONTHS LATER WITH GGPR #11,,,,, and BOY I WANNA GO BACK TO WHEN IT WAS EXCITEMENT INSTEAD OF DISGRUNTLED TOLERANCE,,,,, i can’t fucking believe ryan parrott did this to me but ANYWAY god i love this oneshot so much, it’s a little rough because i wrote it while sleep-deprived and like. you know, in ten hours straight. but god we could’ve had it all with ranger slayer. give me all that kim/kimberly content.
well, i’ve been afraid of changing - PR 2017/TV crossover; this is like one of the few legacy oneshots i truly truly love tbh,,,, she’s old but i still love her also mostly because i’m not a fan of writing 5+1 fics and she turned out SO GOOD i love kimberly/trini so much let me die
do i wanna know - PR 2017 AU; my most popular trimberly week bitch (until… i fucking… write day 5 smh dsfljkahfj) a coffee shop/college/fake dating au,,, she’s a little rough bc most of my trimberly week stuff was but she’s so pOPULAR,,, also like the first trimberly fluff i’ve written in a long while lmao
you taught me the courage of stars before you left - MMPR/PR 2017 crossover; reincarnation au is just the BEST my dude i love it so much and i love playing with og trini vs. reboot trini ideas so much,,,, so good. i said i’d write her a sequel but i never did whoops dlsfkjhfj
Honorable mentions:
the dawn of the resistance - PR 2017/Star Wars crossover; i just love star wars so much and power rangers so much but this didn’t deserve to be on the main list bc she’s only got one chapter flkdsjahf
Option 833,333 - Person of Interest canon continuation; this isn’t on the main list bc she’s like three years old and abandoned bc i’ve clearly moved on from the fandom but,,,, she’s my most popular fic ever and i didn’t even write that much for her lkdfshjfj it took me like 5x the amount of words and a whole year just to get legacy to even CLOSE to the same amount of kudos (and legacy’s still behind by like a full 40) tbf tho i posted her during the Peak of POI’s s4 hype so like fandom was REALLY active,,,, rip

I predicted it, but I still can’t believe they did it. And man, did they do it.
I knew Loki was gonna die, but it was still a bummer. Right at the start of the film without even getting to see any of the other Avengers again. What happened to Valkyrie though? I don’t think they showed her in a shot of all the dead Asgardians but I feel like if she were alive, they would’ve said something. So she probably bit the dust along those other side characters who tagged along with the Asgardian refugees at the end of Ragnarok.
They almost got me with the Tony fake-out, but I was right; that’s not the way to end his character arc. It’s also not really surprising in retrospect that Captain America didn’t die. If he was gonna, they’d have given him more screen time to build up to it. But he was pretty much just a supporting character. If you could point to any individual characters who stand out as the main protagonists in Infinity War, the ones the story is actually about, it’s Tony, Thor, and Gamora.
What did surprise me were the deaths of EVERY SINGLE GUARDIAN OF THE GALAXY, sans Rocket and Nebula of all characters, (Also, what happened to the Adam Warlock tease at the end of GotG2? Doesn’t he have the soul stone in the comics? WTF was up with bringing back Red Skull?) as well as Spiderman (poor Aunt May, if she isn’t dead too...), Black Panther, and Doctor Strange (after teasing a sequel with one of his allies turning evil at the end of his film).
It’s honestly a bit strange how it all worked out. I mean, half the universe is half the universe, so really there should be a 50/50 chance any character could die, so it makes sense that around half the Avengers would die... Unless you look at it on a grander scale; the Avengers are composed of a couple dozen people among trillions, yet that many of them ended up on the wrong side of the coin toss? Also, I did a little counting, the death toll in this movie is actually more than half.
Although we know from the Ant-Man 2 trailer that Scott, Hank, and Hope are alive and Captain Marvel is obviously alive since she was teased at the end, of the characters shown in Infinity War who are Avengers/Guardians or closely associated with them, only 9 are confirmed to have survived the snap;
Tony
Steve
Bruce
Natasha
Rhodey
Thor
Rocket
Nebula
Okoye
16 Avengers/Guardians died. However, four deaths were unrelated to the snap.
Vision
Gamora
Loki
Heimdall
So the total killed via “cointoss” is 12;
Wanda
Nick Fury
Maria Hill
Starlord
Drax
Groot
Mantis
Dr. Strange
T’Challa
Bucky
Sam
Peter
There are 6 Unconfirmed Status Heroes;
Clint
Sharon
Sif
Nakia
Shuri
Wong
Valkyrie (presumed dead)
Unconfirmed Status Supporting Characters;
Pepper
Happy
Jane (presumably dead since she’s unlikely to be brought back after Ragnarok dropped her like a hot brick)
Everett Ross
Thaddeus Ross
Aunt May
Ned
MJ
Erik (presumably as unlikely to return as Jane)
Darcy (same)
Ian (same)
Some of the choices were quite strange. Why did Rocket and Nebula live while Gamora, Starlord, and Groot died? Why did Falcon die instead of War Machine, who’s more or less redundant when Tony’s still alive? Why did so many Guardians die, but 0 members of the original Avengers? Unless you count Nick Fury, or if Hawkeye turns out to have been killed offscreen. Why Spiderman? The worlds most popular (and lucrative) superhero?
However, even if the Spiderman, Black Panther, and Guardian’s sequels turn out to be unsubstantiated rumors, I still think it’s not going to be permanent.
Doctor Strange told Tony there was a single scenario where they succeed and that he wouldn’t trade Tony’s life for trillions. His final words to Tony were “It was the only way”. Clearly, he saw a scenario where somehow this all works out to being undone. Most likely he saw that Thanos needed to get the stone, but at just the right moment so that Thor would have his axe and be ready with it in time to deal a blow that would weaken Thanos so that he could be defeated later and the gauntlet used to reverse the damage. Captain Marvel will probably be the key to this. I don’t know much about her, but it sounds like she’s the Superman of this universe, so she’s probably the only one at this point capable of defeating Thanos and wielding the insane amount of power in the gauntlet. I also read a little thing mentioning that the solo Captain Marvel film would take place in the 90s and probably involve time travel, as that’s supposedly part of her power set. I’m wondering if there won’t be a connection to Doctor Strange involved. Like, maybe he used the time stone to set in motion events that would lead to CM getting her powers and that’s the reason why someone that powerful is only now being called upon; she literally didn’t exist until she was retconned to life in this film. Either that, or maybe before the start of Doctor Strange the stone was discovered and used for shenanigans involving CM before being put away for safe keeping.
{EDIT} I can’t believe I forgot to mention that the meme about the Avengers exchanging sad backstories actually happened with Thor and Starlord.

Jordan Peele Calls ‘Nope’ on His Next Horror Movie
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
In the several years since Jordan Peele released his second directorial effort, the twisty and wicked Us, the marketplace has been inundated with more than a few imitators of Peele’s unique blend of socially conscious horror and seemingly contradictory bleak humor—essentially inserted nervous laughter. Yet even after multiple other films and projects on that wavelength, no one has been able to replicate the unique blend which won Peele on a Oscar for the screenplay of his first movie, Get Out, and which made Us one of only a handful of original 2019 efforts to be among the highest grossing of that year.
So news about his third movie was exciting even before we knew anything about it beyond its cast, which includes Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. But now we at least know the title: Nope.
Revealed alongside its poster and release date by Peele on social media (which you can see below), the title is a cheeky and amusing nod which follows in the tradition of 1960s and ‘70s horror movies like Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now. Edgar Wright famously homaged that style of horror titling as well in his fake trailer for a Grindhouse movie that doesn’t exist: Don’t.
Nope of course updates the gag by framing itself around a popular phrase and meme, often used to characterize Black audiences reacting to movies where on-screen characters make questionable if not outright stupid decisions in horror movies—like, say, petting the sexual snake-dragon in Prometheus.
☁️ pic.twitter.com/iiDRwVLmbr
— Jordan Peele (@JordanPeele) July 22, 2021
Nope also marks Peele’s first collaboration with Kaluuya since Get Out, which netted Kaluuya his first Oscar nomination alongside Peele, who picked up nods for Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. Kaluuya of course went on to win an Oscar earlier this year for Judas and the Black Messiah. Yeun, meanwhile, has also seen his clout rise recently after producing and starring in Minari, the unexpected VOD sleeper success of early 2021, which generated critical raves and gradual enthusiastic word-of-mouth despite opening during the COVID-19 pandemic’s award season. Yeun also received an Oscar nomination for his starring role in that movie.
Not much else is currently known about Nope other than its July 22, 2022 release date. However, judging by the trailer there appears to be something faintly alien about its image which involves a giant cloud and a streamer that could signal it’s either attached to a kite, a car dealership, or some type of holiday decorations. Could Santa be a UFO? Probably nope! But who really knows at this point?
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });

The 15 Funniest Memes of All Time
INTERNET HUMOR ISN'T ALWAYS EASILY EXPLAINABLE, BUT IT'S USUALLY PRETTY HILARIOUS.
Tumblr media
If it wasn't for funny memes—you know: quips and pictures that exist solely for straightforward entertainment—Facebook wouldn't be entertaining enough to steal such a lot of some time. Instagram, too, would be little quiet selfies and stylized pictures of food. And Twitter? Don't even get us started. In short, the web would be a joyless barren of constant news alerts, questionably reliable research, and self-aggrandizing social media posts without a number of the internet's funniest memes.
Fortunately, that's a nightmare you do not need to imagine, because of the very fact that funny memes are everywhere—and not going out of favor anytime soon. Herein, we've gathered the funniest memes of all time. Don't worry: We've kept it all SFW. Because if there's one ironclad rule of the web, it's this: Never search for memes on the bad part.
1- Baby Yoda Sipping Soup
Tumblr media
Baby Yoda, the unofficial name for "The Child" from the Star Wars television program The Mandalorian, was the most important and cutest meme star of 2019. He's had tons of gif-worthy moments, but this adorable image of him sipping soup takes the cake.
2- is that this a
Tumblr media
You don't get to know the anime series this screenshot was taken from to understand the meme. within the original iteration, the person (who's apparently an android within the show) mistakes a butterfly for a pigeon, so this format works for anyone who's ever tried to suit a square peg (coffee) into a round hole (a balanced breakfast).
3- Woman Yells at Confused Cat
Tumblr media
The woman in question is Bravo Housewife Taylor Armstrong, and no, she didn't really scream at an innocent cat. But internet magic was made when someone put this screenshot side-by-side with a pet named Smudge who doesn't enjoy a vegetarian diet.
4- Success Kid
Tumblr media
Success Kid is for celebrating all those little wins which will give your day a significant lift. So keep going—this little guy is cheering you on.
5- awkward moment seal
Tumblr media
This little guy is that the cutest possible meme to accompany all of life's horrible awkward moments. If you would like to cringe until you literally implode, the Awkward Moment Seal possesses your back.
6- Doge
Tumblr media
If you're keen on dogs, you'll love the one and only Doge. This Shiba Inu-inspired meme is all about celebrating the great boys and rare puppers in your life. It's no wonder he went viral—who could resist this face?
7-Change My Mind
Tumblr media
Political commentator Steven Crowder set down at a table with a symbol challenging people to vary his mind, and a fresh meme was born. If you've got an unpopular opinion you're keen on defending, this is often the meme for you.
8-Drakeposting
Tumblr media
Drake didn't twiddle my thumbs on the moves within the video for his song "Hotline Bling." And thus, he inadvertently created the right meme for expressing that you simply like one thing far better than another.
9- Evil Kermit
Tumblr media
Every light side features a dark side—even Kermit, as evidenced by this series of funny memes. Fun fact: Evil Kermit is really a personality called Constantine from the movie Muppets favorite.
10- Philosoraptor
Tumblr media
All jokes aside, Philosoraptor asks some pretty compelling questions. Maybe the dinosaurs would still be around if all of their big existential queries were answered.
11- Kim Kardashian in Bed
Tumblr media
The Kardashians have spread themselves everywhere on the web, so it comes as no surprise that they're the source of the many hilarious memes. This one, with Kim Kardashian staring blankly, is beneficial any time you're really not curious about something somebody else wants you to mention or do.
12- Condescending Wonka
Tumblr media
Condescending Wonka is sweet to tug out whenever somebody is getting a touch too big for his or her britches. it is also good to tug out whenever you would like to ascertain Gene Wilder smiling.
13- Crying Dawson
Tumblr media
Years after it first aired, a crying scene from the '90s teen drama Dawson's Creek became a vehicle for nostalgic feels and just generally overreacting to things. Even better, the man who gave us Crying Dawson, actor James Van Der Beek,is enough of a good sport about it that he fake-wept again to give us an updated version for our meme files.
14- Arthur's Fist
Tumblr media
Whenever something causes you to mad, you'll use Arthur's Fist meme to properly express your emotions. Singer John Legend, who's been mocked by his own wife for his resemblance to the PBS character, even recreated this one.
15- Confused Nick Young
Tumblr media
If the guy during this meme looks familiar, that's because it's basketball player Nick Young, last of the Denver Nuggets. Whenever someone says something too absurd for words, you'll just send them this meme—they'll get the hint.

Wholesome Questionare Tag Meme
Tagged by @80sglamcowboy Rules are: -Post the rules -Answer the questions given to you by the tagger -Write eleven questions of your own -Tag eleven people
This is long as Hell, friends and I apologise.
One inquisitive bitch has asked me:
1. Name one person (real or fictional) that you think you could 100% take on in a fight
Foaming mouth guy from Avatar. He’s got no stamina, barely any health, no skill. He’s unfocused and weak and my noodley nerd-ass could take him. (Though I am a little concerned he has rabies.)
2. What’s your favourite snack rn
Grilled cheese w veggies, mustard, and grilled tofu w a side of ketchup made by my roommate. It’s honestly the purest thing.
3. Which apocalypse do you think you’d do the best in? (i.e. Nuclear winter/ robot uprising/ Too many vampires, etc)
O man. I love apocalypse movies and I love survival horror (that one episode of the X Files where they’re trapped in a cabin, anybody?). I also genuinely love camping and I’m a bit of a medical hobbyist. I also watched an unreasonable amount of prepper videos on YouTube. That said, as mentioned above, I am a couch potato weekling. Furthermore, I don’t do well in conflict so if the world hierarchy collapses into a power vacuum where you have to Orange is the New Black-style intimidate ppl for supplies, I would melt and die quickly.
My best bet, it would seem, is an Arrival-esque alien apocalypse where the ones who have enough patience and sci fi knowledge to communicate w aliens are at the top of the food chain. And worst case scenario it’s better for my ego to die at the hands of an alien than a human.
Sci go apocalypses are just cleaner y'know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

4. Best and worst fandom you’ve been in? Or have you somehow managed to avoid fandom completely?
Worst has to be Steven Universe. I regret not just moving on after I got bored. Ah well.
(I also think celebrity/real ppl fandoms are a dead end.)
My other fandoms all have various pros and cons and it’s hard to pick a favourite.
Adventure Time has great fanart, great meta and ppl have yet to descend into Homestuck-ian chaos. That said, they’re quiet af. People also fixate way too much on the fake fanfic AU Fionna and Cake. I have yet to read a really good Bonny/Marcy fic and that is a tragedy (a few have come close tho). Bottom line for AT tho is that it’s my go to wholesome cartoonist fandom. I like that it has depth but that it’s generally very simple and fun and that the fans are mostly shut in animation adults.
AtLA/LoK fandom’s biggest pro is that it’s huge and you literally never ran out of quality content. I’ve even made a few friends via this decade old franchise. It’s also enjoyably rich and complex. One of my favourite (now inactive) blogs was one that connected world building and little background Easter eggs to real Chinese history and culture. That wAs so cool!! I defs think as a Chinese person it allowed me to connect to non-western culture in a socially acceptable way.
The downsides tho are many: it can be overwhelmingly complicated (esp as someone who knows jack shit abt Chinese history), people take it too seriously, The Great Shipping Wars, it’s so big it’s a little lonely, the show itself has so many flaws upon greater inspection you wonder why you wasted your time on anything related to it, it’s an Asian themed story created by white dudes who make fun of their fans, the best parts of the show were written by other writers but those same white guys get k the credit. Also as w any fandom related to POC culture, racism happens. Anyways most of you know this already. IMO the best thing to have happened do the fandom is korrasami. Now it’s just abt Asian lesbians ruling the world.
(Though I also thoroughly enjoy the Family Rivalry part of the fandom. There are so mNy dysfunctional families to choose from!)
Rick and Morty is technically speaking my newest fandom. It’s got a lot of obvious cons (pickle Rick sexists, Szechuan sauce racists, asfhkkh incest) but one other con is just how pedantic and overly analytical people are abt the world building. I can’t breathe wo being corrected. RM has a misleadingly complicated high sci fi aesthetic that begets the kind of overanalysing my brand of overanalytical nerdiness can’t handle. Too many alternate universes. It’s just too complicated.
However one thing I like is that conversely I can overanalyse the writing and characters’ psychology/relationships (which I LOVE) and ppl take me very seriously. (At least they used to.) it’s kinda validating to have your 3k word essay on an old man’s bedroom and what that signifies for his depression get over 1k notes.
Rm also attracts the fun, super talented animation crowd so there’s boundless fanart and memes. I never knew I would like a gravity falls crossover retirement home AU btwn Rick and Stan so much but the art is objectively gorgeous?? So ??
I really dislike the lack of attention the female characters get from fandom bc they’re all really great? Female rep is limited but both canon and fic really do their 2-3 tokens justice. Also the jerry hatred is getting old (that male aggression… Like… Calm down, Jake) but it’s a refreshing departure drom when Megg from family guy was the butt of the joke.
Harry Potter, one of the pillars of nerd society, has both changed my life and irreconcilably annoyed me to death. (W no thanks to the racist creator herself!) One can’t underestimate how huge the hp fandom is which offers you as many reasons to love it as reasons not to. Harry Potter’s canon has complex world building that’s also charming enough not to take itself too seriously and much the same could b said of fanon. To a degree. Certain corners of the fanbase are fantastic shitposters and meme-ers and can draw you back in like a black hole. Casually enjoying Harry potter imo is where it’s at. The fanfic is probably one of the most impressively vast. Strangers at Drakesaugh, believe it or not, still updates and not only that, I still read it.
Not casually enjoying Harry potter is, um, yikes? HP and Hunger Games love to insert themselves appropriately in real life political traumas and honestly the dedication of the fandom can be overwhelming.
The HP fanart corner of deviantart circa 2010-12 and @flocc HP comics however are the best.
Meet the Robinsons, Ye Olde Fandom, still stands to this day. (Thanks in part to me ngl) As Iroh might say, they are a proud people. MTR is so bizarre and tiny it’s the only fandom I was able to read EVERY fic summary in existence (ones published on obscure sites excepted). The fandom has never ceased to surprise me for better or worse and mostly due to its age range. The original movie was intended for 8-12 yr olds and their (jaded) parents which means that now, ten years later, the fans are anywhere between 12 and 25. It has approximately 20 pieces of professional-grade fanart and fic and I am downright serious abt the quality and thoughtful complexity of this minority of fanart. Like I shit you not some of it’s almost too dark. However, tragically, one can’t talk abt obscure Disney fandoms wo also mentioning the incest ships (this is what happens when middleschoolers have to resort to cartoons to explore their sexuality in an anti sex ed world), the disorganised crossovers, and the blinding lack of imagination. Nonetheless, that a fandom of any kind could sprout from a 90 min cgi movie before the recession, based off an obscure but objectively fascinating children’s book, is still impressive. The fandoms smallness can in many wars work to everybody’s benefit: it’s a tightly knit community w little to no drama. And lots of memes (that I mostly make) to enjoy sincerely or ironically.
I’m also going to mention, very briefly, the Twin Peaks fandom, most of whom, even the die hards, are v casual when it comes to fan content (I need more fic damnit). Nonetheless it’s a decidedly cool art kid crowd for an art house show and I really enjoy befriending twin peaks watchers.
5. What’s one hot food that you prefer cold? (or, alternatively, one cold food you like hot)
Is it snobby to say I like food to be the temperature God intended?
Like I like cold pizza and salad-y pasta but I wouldn’t mind if everything were room temperature as long as the food itself was well made.
6. ya like jazz? What music do you enjoy listening to? Can you recommend any songs/ artists from that genre?
I think in some contexts I can like jazz. It’s very cosy and nostalgic, it can make you feel like a grand dame stepping out of your limo into your martini filled mansion as records pop around you and your fur carpeted living room. I also occasionally like jazz covers and alternate genres of jazz like electro swing etc.
Generally though I also think jazz is a little antiquated and a little all over the place. I lean more towards the ambiguous minimalism of mellow techno music like Jonna Lee, Grimes, Björk, early Lorde, Yasmine Hamdan, Austra, TRST, etc
I mean I don’t stick to just one genre (I imagine most ppl don’t). I like alternative (Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Joanna Newsom) and some musicians who seem to completely exist outside of genre like iMonster and the Gorillaz. Not to mention straight up pop like broods, Ellie goulding, lady gaga and Lana del rey. (I mean technically Ldr isn’t pop but u get the ideer)
7. What binge worthy show do you like?
So many man. There are so many out there! Twin peaks, Transparent, Love, Grace and Frankie, Adventure Time, House of Cards, Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty, Mad Men, Girls, Broad City, Black Mirror, Avatar TLA, 6Teen, Chowder, Over the Garden Wall, Flapjack, the first season of Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, etc
The list goes on. I’m a TV fiend.
8. What’s an old meme that you miss and wish would be brought back?
Always liked the Gothic [x town or whatever] meme. It was like a text post version of the cursed images meme. Currently I’m really enjoying the song from another room meme and I hope even after it gets old it’ll make a comeback.
9. Tell me your aesthetic

O man. That’s a can of worms! Okay. Deep breath.
I like futurism, of all kinds. I like strong lines and clear shapes. I like colour blocking and minimalism and glass and holographic LED neons. I like white Japanese urban tiled buildings. I like aliens and ruins and cubes and white and colour blocking and black. I like technology and aliens and Comme des Garçons and Issey Miyake. Rooms that are empty but for one light and one window and one plant. Love that.
I like the midcentury cubism and Mod and 30’s futurism. Clear and strong industrial shapes and curves and post modernist abstractionism.
I also love nature, I love most every Björk and Iamamiwhoami music video. I love the mountains and the forests and the desert and the winter tundra and most of all I love the water. A vast expanse of sky and sea w so many colours and textures. I love the 2000s and funny blob shapes and y2k’s obsession w secondary colours and shiny round things. Love pink. I am a grown adult who will never tire of pink. (Though I don’t really like when people overdo pink.) I love cursed image family photos taken with flash in a suburb. I love the grime and the sanitary aesthetic of suburbs and hospitals and brutalist office spaces. The fluorescent lights of the institution but with purple carpeting!
I love 70s mod and I love colorful 80s brutalism I like it when houses are shaped weirdly and they have carpets and polished curved wooden countertops and spacious nothingness where everything looks clean and cosy and bizarrely ugly and it all looks like an art gallery w too many plants.
I also really love maximalism and wood and detail and fur and velvet and embroidery and silk and windows and wood carvings.
I love 70s kitsch like John waters movies and Shrimps designer fake fur CDG17 where they just piled on knickknack after knickknack onto white dresses w food long trains. Toys and novelty items and lamps shaped like a woman’s leg in a fishnet stocking. (See also: most Tim burton movies, wes Anderson, Carrie fishers house)
An overwhelming mishmash of wool patterns with clean cubic 70s architecture and so many plants and windows and wallpaper and candles and cobwebs. Also really like witchy mourning jewelry and essentially every house in Harry potter. Love the unfortunately racist boho/hippie aesthetic. Any house designed by bill kirsch is a masterpiece. Woven baskets on the ceiling piles of hats and art supplies everywhere. Stuff!! Everywhere! Hidden passageways reading nooks fireplaces the Pink Palace from Coraline!
Everything!!!
I’m a cartoonist who’s a nerd for design so I like when concepts are taken to the extreme in a humourously charming and clear-minded way. Whatever aesthetic someone chooses, they should go all out and really dedicate themselves to the highest form of that aesthetic. It has to be perfect without being sanitary of fake. It has to be alive yet beautiful, frozen in one perfect moment.
10. Favourite time of day and why?
Dusk. I think it’s a nostalgia thing. I loved the hours before bed time as well the hours before dinner when it was getting dark and the sun was reflecting freaky colours along the horizon while I ran around the grass. It’s cozy but it’s spacious and adventurous. So many things can happen at dusk!

11. You have the choice to live in any fictional universe - which one do you pick and why?
Harry Potter!!! You get the best of both worlds: magical, over-romanticised Victorian/medievalism, wish-fulfillment surrealism and wifi. It’s great. Likelihood of dying is so low, medicine is so advanced and even then ppls n°1 choice of lethal weapon (Avada Kedavra) is painless. Me and Luna could hang in her garden. I’d never have to pay for the subway again. I could live a nomadic life in a tent w infinite space. If you chose to live as a wizard amongst Muggles you’re basically god and you can cheat capitalism. Gravity is my bitch! And I’m not gna lie my dream house has always been a combination of The Burrow, the Lovegood house, and Shell Cottage.
My turn to pick your brain:
1 Favourite texture?
2 Favourite smell?
3 Favourite children’s book/children’s TV show? (I’m talking about the bizarre abstract ones for toddlers)
4 Best and worst prank you’ve ever pulled?
5 Weirdest beginning of a friendship?
6 When you’ve been in fandom for a while you start to notice you’ve a habit of staying in the same corners. What corner are you in? Are you part of the fluffy ship corner? The intense world building spec meta corner? The shitpost comic fanart corner? Etc
7 If you could invent a class that would be obligatory for all high schools across your country what would it be?
8 What’s the weirdest thing you’ve gotten at Halloween while trick or treating?
9 Weirdest family tradition of yours?
10 Describe your significant other (or your crush, or your dream partner or if you’re aromantic your fave person) through only TV references.
11 Favourite piece of dialogue in a movie?
I don’t know 11 ppl but nonetheless tagging: @that-guy-in-the-bowler-hat @skairheart @nochangenohope @eventheslightestrayofsunshine@autistic-jaredkleinman@phoenixkluke
…and YOU (if you were not mentioned above and so choose to accept this mission)

Note
ok, so the writer as memes. I want all the answers. ALL. OF. THEM.
Here you go, @everlarkingjoshifer! Thanks for the ask, I loved doing this!
I answered some of the questions in previous asks so, to simplify, I added the links here.
1. Favorite place to write.

2. Favorite part of writing. Plotting and outlining. I just let my mind wander, coming up with scenarios and possibilities.

3. Least favorite part of writing. Second guessing the choices I make, followed by all those pesky questions that sometimes creep into my mind.
4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most. THG trilogy, obviously, that’s the universe that got me into fan fiction in the first place. But Graham Greene has also had a great impact on my writing.

6. Favorite character you ever created.
I haven’t really created many original characters, but there’s this girl from D1 who will make an appearance in WIWTTW. I like her a lot. I might even write an outtake from her POV.
7. Favorite author.

8. Favorite trope to write.

9. Least favorite trope to write.
10. Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about. I’d love to write something with Mary Hoffman. I love her “Stravaganza” books. It would be awesome to work on something like that. In the fan fiction world, I’d love to do something with @notanislander. Yes, Carrie, you! I think we’d have a great time figuring out a story. Probably something about Everlark not getting together right away ;)
11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.
A. Have an idea (usually these come when I’m watching/reading something that inspires me, or while I’m in the shower.
B. Write down the basics.
C. Fill in the gaps in the plot (sometimes I even include bits of dialogue into this step)
D. Divide de plot into segments (chapters). E. Write, aka develop each one of the points in the outline.

12. How do you deal with self-doubts? Depends on how much of the story I have. Sometimes I ask someone to read my stuff and comment. But mostly I just clench my jaw and hit the “post” button.

13. How do you deal with writers block? Sometimes I go back to reread stuff I’ve written, or I go over the plots I have stored to see if something catches my eye. I also ask for prompts from other blogs or participate in writing challenges. @promptsinpanem, @everlarkficexchange, and  @everlarkbirthdaydrabbles have all been great for me, having an idea and a due date pushes me to get my act together.

14. What’s the most research you ever put into a book? I haven’t done a lot of research yet. But I always try to check small facts here and there.

15. Where does your inspiration come from? Most of my inspiration comes from THG trilogy. Everything I’ve posted so far is fan fiction and most of it is either canon compliant or in Panem. So that entire universe has proven to be a great source of inspiration for me.

16. Where do you take your motivation from? Have you ever reread something you wrote and wondered where those words or ideas came from? I’m constantly surprised by some of the passages I’ve written and I’m curious to see what else I can come up with. That curiosity is what drives me to keep on writing. And, on the days when that isn’t enough, the comments and reviews from my readers also stop me from giving up.

17. On average, how much writing do you get done in a day?

18. What’s your revision or rewriting process like? Slow. Basically I read and reread what I have. This is where most of my insecurities creep up on me. Sometimes I’ll change a single sentence many times, only to discover that the best version was the first one.

19. First line of a WIP you’re working on.
Gale Hawthorne couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Her blond hair, loosely tied in a messy bun at her nape, shone like spun gold under the relentless summer sun.” (Strawberry Swing my submission to this year’s @mores2sl collection)
20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on.

21. Post the last sentence you wrote in one of your WIP’s.

“It looks great. The ground floor looks like one of the houses from the old merchant quarter.” Looking out into the street, Haymitch added, “I hope you’re prepared for a big shock, a lot has changed since you left.” (Why I Went to the Woods)
22. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied and a project is ultimately done for you?
Depends. Usually, my first draft is little more than a simple outline. Sometimes my second draft fells complete but, most times, it takes three drafts to add all the details and points that I want into a story.
23. Single or multi POV, and why? I like multi POVs because they give you allow a deeper understanding of what’s happening in the story. I like exploring the different sides of every story.

24. Poetry or prose, and why? Prose. My brain simply doesn’t compute poetry.

25. Linear or non-linear, and why?
26. Standalone or series, and why?
27. Do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it’s all polished? Sometimes I share rough drafts but I try to polish as much as possible before showing my drafts to anyone.
28. And who do you share them with? I have a handful of betas I rely on from time to time.
@burkygirl, @xerxia31, @thegirlfromoverthepond, @everlarkingjoshifer, @titaniasfics, @pinksnailsaver, and @randomnoteforfuturereference have all come to my aid at one point or another.
29. Who do you write for? Me!

30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.
Wow, that’s a difficult question! This is the first one that came to mind:
Anyone watching would have noticed how they mirrored each other, flustered and humming with nervous energy. But no one was watching, and they were so consumed with each other’s presence they failed to notice the reciprocity in each other’s gaze. (One Victor CH9)
31. Hardest character to write. Gale Hawthorne.
Maybe it’s because I’m nothing like him, or because Gale’s Window was my very fist fic. But I’ve always had a hard time channeling him.
32. Easiest character to write.
It depends on the day and the story. For the most part, I enjoy writing Peeta. He’s usually easier than Katniss. And I absolutely loved writing Haymitch! Can’t wait to do it again.
33. Do you listen to music when you’re writing? Not if I’m alone. Sometimes I write during my commute, or while the hubs is watching TV, so I use music to block out the noise.

34. Handwritten notes or typed notes? Typed. Always.

35. Tell some backstory details about one of your characters in your story Capitol Life. Both Katniss and Peeta are recruited by Haymitch to become spies for the rebels.
Peeta has to fake his death in order to escape District 12.
36. A spoiler for story Why I Went Back to the Woods. Peeta and Katniss will run into each other in the woods.

37. Most inspirational quote you’ve ever read or heard that’s still important to you. Here are two:
Procrastination is the thief of time. Charles Dickens. It’s simple, but it reminds me of what I’m losing when I just let time slip by.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde. A beautiful reminder that we have to look beyond what’s there and strive for something better.

38. Have you shared your outline of your story One Victor with someone? If so, what did they think of it? Yes, I have. They thought it was good but suggested a few changes for the ending. I haven’t reached that part yet, but I’ll probably follow the advise they gave me.

39. Do you base your characters of real people or not? If so, tell us about one.
I always try to keep my characters as close to canon as possible, but my version of Peeta in Weekend Getaway is heavily inspired by someone I met when I was a teenager.
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why? As a reader I love both. As a writer… Fanfiction, at least for now. Who knows what the future holds.

41. How many stories do you work on at one time? Honestly, I can’t really focus on more than one story at a time. That’s why my WIPs progress so slowly. If I get distracted by a new project I put everything else on hold while I finish the new thing.

42. How do you figure out your characters looks, personality, etc. The characters I’ve created so far exist within THG universe, so I’ve based my descriptions on information from the books.

43. Are you an avid reader? YES!

44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten. “Describe what the character is feeling as if you want the reader to feel the same thing.“

45. Worst piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten. An anonymous comment from someone who clearly didn’t even finish reading the chapter and who had issues with the relationship portrayed in the fic in question. The truth is that I shared the reviewer’s POV. If they had finished reading, they would have seen that the characters were discussing those exact issues.
The way it was the review was angry and useless.
46. What would your story One Victor look like as a tv show or movie? Here and Here are two inspiration boards for it.
47. Do you start with characters or plot when working on a new story? Since I always use the same characters… plot.

48. Favorite genre to write in. Romance, humor, suspense.
49. What do you find the hardest to write in a story, the beginning, the middle or the end? The middle. The beginning is always exciting and the end feels like you’ve accomplished something. But the middle is no man’s land.

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had. Honestly…. I’m drawing a blank…

51. Describe the aesthetic of your story Capitol Life in 5 sentences or words.
Let’s see… cold, dreary, desolate, opulent, soft. I know it sounds a bit contradictory, but the story is divided into two sections. It’s probably easier to check out my inspiration board for it.
52. How did writing change you? It’s made me happier. It’s allowed me to get in touch with myself. I get to explore my thoughts and my imagination in a way I didn’t before. It’s liberating.

53. What does writing mean to you? It’s a challenge. The challenge of finding the right words to tell a good story. I don’t always succeed, but I really enjoy trying.

54. Any writing advice you want to share? Write to find peace, to find freedom, to fill your life with fantasy and adventure, with romance. Write to make yourself smile.

Kamen Rider 45th Anniversary File:Drive
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2014-2015:
Godzilla returns for his 60th birthday to theaters in an American film adaptation reboot simply titled Godzilla. Unlike last time America did this stunt, the film was well done and was a success.
Fans celebrate and sing with Moon Pride with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, a modern reboot that fully adapts the original manga for the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
Ultraman Ginga got a sequel season on TV, Ultraman Ginga S. Ultraman X would come the following year and Tsuburaya would sign an exclusive streaming and simulcast deal with the California-based internet streaming company Crunchyroll to broadcast entries of the Ultra Series legally on the web. (despite Chaiyo being jerks and trying to stop the deal with the fake “We own Ultraman” thing again)
Zing Zing, AMAZING! As long as there is love in the world, Cure Lovely is invincible! Pretty Cure celebrates its 10th Anniversary with HappinessCharge Precure, which introduces the concept of non-super mode form changing to the shoujo series thanks to Kamen Rider writers on the staff.
The Super Sentai Series hits a rough patch with ratings and toy sales as ToQger and Ninninger come and go. Super Sentai celebrates its 40th year of existence on April 5, 2015 and for the first time ever, a Power Rangers actor cameos in a Sentai!
Japan finishes switching to full digital HD TV broadcasting. Now we can see all the pretty lasers, sparks and explosions in glorious high definition!
Shout! Factory shocked Ranger Nation with a bombshell, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger was coming to DVD in the United States! Due to positive reception by fans and sales, the company would become the official distributor of Super Sentai DVDs in America!
Power Rangers celebrated 20 years of the franchise. The Mighty Morphin’ Red Ranger gets a spot in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as a balloon!
Power Rangers Super Megaforce frustrates longtime fans of the series, with reviews ranging from “meh, it’s okay” to fan rage of the highest caliber for the mishandling of such a special occasion as the 20th anniversary. It really is a divisive season.
Kikaider Reboot attempts to relaunch Kikaider for its 40th anniversary, but later Shotaro’s son and president of Ishimori Pro Akira Onodera would put the Kikiader’s licensing to Japanese filmmakers under indefinite lockdown as he was unhappy with the direction the film took.
Cyborg 009 comes to America again with a graphic novel adaptation in 2013, intended to be the first of a series of graphic novels featuring Shotaro Ishinomori’s super heroes (”The Ishinomori Universe Books” as they were to be called). After a year of waiting for the next one, fans are disappointed to hear from F.J. DeSanto that the next set of books were put on hold and then cancelled indefinitely due to Ishimori Pro’s “cultural issues” with the project. Thus, the planned Skull Man and Kikaider novels are cancelled during their early draft phase.
The Garo Series turns 10 years old and a vast array of projects are announced and debut on TV, video and in theaters, increasing the franchise’s media output to levels never seen before.
The Patlabor franchise gets a series of live action films with Erina Mano (Kamen Rider Nadeshiko) as one of its stars.
When Drive was being planned; the producers had an idea of utilizing aspects of another cult favorite “Rider” show: Glen A. Larson’s cult 1980s TV show Knight Rider. In an interview, producer Takahito Omori even outright stated that Drive would be “Kamen Rider meets Knight Rider”.
Now imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but you need to be subdued to avoid lawsuits when you are dealing with TV. (Especially with tyrannical copyright strikedowners and suers like NBC Universal if you are simply doing a tribute). But the overall feeling is there in some regard: Rinna is Bonnie, we have a KARR expy on two accounts and a sentient A.I. in a car that accompanied a law enforcer. But that is where the some of the Knight similarities end as Drive tries to be its own thing, a quirky, sometimes goofy, sometimes serious show with sentient Hot Wheels cars, special tires that give the heroes super powers and a talking belt.
The planning involved Riku Sanjo, who fans remember from the beloved Kamen Rider W. He wanted a police procedural drama integrated into the action. Oddly enough, the original concept was to make the hero a former criminal and then revised into a crook turned cop!  This idea was bounced around before the TV Asahi network executives got into a hissy fit about an anti-hero as a lead and said/demanded that the hero should be “pure”. So they decided to just make the show about cops with the main hero being an officer of the leu. (as Peter Sellers used to say).
A second concept idea was the use of games but the staff thought the age demographic they were aiming for was “too young for that”. This will still come... eventually in another Rider show years later.
Tumblr media
Another aspect that chose the direction of the show was a more somber one, the choice of a car as the main Rider Machine. Ishinomori famously claimed in an SIC story that “cars didn’t work” for Kamen Rider the last time they tried it. But according to the Asahi Shimbun in 2014, with the dwindling population and low birth rate of Japan, motorcycles are becoming less and less common in number on Japan’s roads. No extra babies being born means less future rebellious youngsters and some of those who have bikes registered are getting older and greyer.
So the staff chose a car as 1: Cars are steadily beginning to rise in number on Japan’s roads and 2: small car toys like Hot Wheels are and always will be popular with the young male demographic. Plus the staff thought it would be “innovative” as unlike with Black RX, the car would be the main hero’s sole vehicle. Also helping the car motif was Carranger director Ryuta Tasaki being on the show as a consultant and episode director, who wanted to “break a few conceptions about Heisei Kamen Rider”.
So after the decision, the production crew took a used 1992 Honda NSX, got some custom seating, racing style safety belts and trim from TS Tech, took her to a body shop and went to work. Several months of hard labor and custom parts made in-house and spare/modified parts donated from Honda later.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got a souped-up custom super machine! Sure, Tridoron doesn’t have a style that is to everbody’s taste, but in the show it can fly like a certain Delorean, turbo boost, shoot lasers and can go a little over 340MPH and drive itself!
The cars and speed didn’t stop with the main hero, as we got a TRON-lined high tech Mercedes-Benz AMG GT (the first non-Japanese manufactured car in the Kamen Rider series) and a modified Mazda Miata with machine guns as villain cars for the movies.
Another cool aspect of Drive is the indirect Marvel connection, the main lead actor Ryoma Takeuchi is a fan of Marvel Comics. This shows as his portrayal as Drive is a sometimes Spider-Man-esque snarky superhero. But Ryoma also studied hard to learn English really for one purpose: To meet Stan Lee and tell him how much he loved Marvel. A year after his show ended, he did!
Tumblr media
(Yes, even in other superhero fandoms, Stan ”The Man” Lee will make that cameo! 94 and still awesome and kicking, God bless him!)
Word is Ryoma’s now trying to get into Hollywood to be a Marvel superhero on the American big screen or TV. If that doesn’t prove Ryoma is One of Us, what will?  (Good luck Ryoma! We’ll be cheering for you and we hope your dream comes true!)
Chris Peppler, a Japanese-American radio DJ was chosen to be the other half of Kamen Rider Drive: the KITT-esqe Mr. Belt. Since he was fluent in both Japanese and English, it gave him room to play around as an actor and his performance even spawned a Rider meme or two.
But now, let’s START OUR ENGINES! Cuz’ ALL WE NEED IS DRIVE!
DRIVE! TYPE: 45 File!
Tumblr media
The First Kamen Rider (Proto) Drive
Real Name: Roidmude Proto-Zero
“Those who are about to die do not need to know my name”
A scientist named Dr. Krim Steinbelt was working on a device called Core Driviars which he hoped could be used to benefit mankind.
His colleague Dr. Banno had borrowed his invention when his own research on advanced A.I. androids called Roidmudes hit a dead end. Krim wanted to help his friend and aided in the development of Banno’s research. But then Banno had other ideas and used the androids human mimicry ability to enact his revenge fantasies of destroying those who mocked or didn’t support his research without Krim’s knowledge. But Krim found out about Banno’s petty and sadistic behavior and ended their partnership.
Banno then intended to implant the negative emotions of humans into his creations so they would understand the concept of hate and violence and be used as his military force to conquer the world.
However, Banno’s plan seemingly went awry as the 108 Roidmudes he built gained sentience and rebelled against their cruel creator and like so many films and TV about AI, they decide we fleshy meatbags are not worth protecting or keeping around.
However, Krim had a contingency plan if Banno’s evil work bore fruit. After his home was attacked and he was killed by a Roidmude, a protocol was activated to download his consciousness into a belt-like device and he reactivated an early Roidmude that didn’t have Banno’s programming installed into him. The evil Roidmudes initiated a disaster later referred to as the Global Freeze, where a large quarter of the Earth was slowed down by the Heavy Acceleration phenomenon the Drivairs in the Roidmudes created. Many people were hurt or died and thousands of buildings were destroyed, but then a savior came in the form of a black Kamen Rider. The Rider drove away the evil forces but could not destroy the Cores that keep them alive. The Rider eventually fell in battle when one of the stronger Roidmudes defeated him and discarded a helpless Krim aside. Some say he is dead....but is he really?
Tumblr media
The second and current Kamen Rider Drive (Officer Tomari circa 2015)
Real Name: Shinnosuke Tomari
When all the Global Freeze ruckus was about to go on, two police officers were in pursuit of a suspect of the terrorist cell Neo-Shade. When one of the suspects tried to ambush Officer Tomari’s partner Hayase by cornering him, Tomari panicked and pulled out his gun intending to disable the crook. But then the Global Freeze wave hit and slowed Officer Tomari down, causing his bullet to miss and hit a flammable generator near Hayase. The generator exploded and Hayase fell with steel pipes threatening to crush him after he fell. Tomari tried to save his partner but was slowed down again unable to reach him. Thankfully, due to the slowdown, Hayase was still alive after the pipes fell but was badly hurt. But being the cause of his best friend’s injuries haunted Officer Tomari and he became a broken man, unable to focus on work and losing all motivation.
He was transferred to a special investigations unit as Krim had a friend in the Police force who could pull the strings to find a candidate worthy of being the next Kamen Rider and formed the unit. Half a year later, Shinnosuke is still in that department but has a lax motivation to do anything at first, constantly being scolded for his slacking by his co-worker Kiriko. Upon hearing there may be a Heavy Acceleration case, he gets interested at first but is easily discouraged by his low self esteem. He keeps hearing a voice coming for the red car he drives telling him to not give up and offers him a chance to be a “warrior”. Shinnosuke is a bit weirded out by this but tells the voice he still refuses as he is a has-been. But the voice tells him he knows he has greater potential and then when Shinnouske finds where the voice is coming from, Krim attaches himself to Shinnouske which freaks him out. After investigating another attempted murder with Heavy Acceleration in the area, they find the suspect: Roidmude #029. Unable to save a bystander as even with the Shift Cars help, he cannot do much as he is ambushed by more Roidmudes.
Kiriko tells him he must use Krim and transform and the Shift Cars give him a brace and a red car to go with the belt. He uses it to become Kamen Rider Drive Type Speed.  After a bit of a learning curve, Drive makes quick work of the Roidmudes using his new powers. (though at least one survived the attack via his Core escaping to antagonize the hero next episode)
When the day is saved, Kiriko shows him their base of operations under the Kuruma Driver's License Center: the Drive Pit. She tells Shinnosuke they must keep the base a secret from the Special Investigation Unit and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. So Shinnosuke must investigate the cases of the Roidmudes to stop and eliminate them as the secret Kamen Rider of law enforcement and supported by his allies in the Special Investigations Unit.  Many twists and tuns happen along the way, with new allies, new powers and new dangers and mysteries around every corner!

The Drive Driver aka “Mr. Belt” - Krim’s current form and Shinnosuke’s partner. Unlike KITT from Knight Rider whom partially inspired his character, Krim can leave the car and be mobile to help his partner whenever and wherever he is needed and is a vital part of the Drive System’s functions.

http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Door-Ju
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Trailer-Hou
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Ride_Booster_Set - Go karts which combine with the Tridoron to change into hover conversion tech! Best of all, they were a free gift from Rinna, no $39,999.95 worth of body work needed!
Powers:
Super Speed, enhanced strength and reflexes, weapons proficiency, Immunity to singularity events such as Heavy Acceleration if Shift Cars are on his person or his Core Driviar in his Rider Suit is active.
The Shift Cars give a wide variety of powers:
Flame Generation and projectiles
Ninja based-powers such as cloning jitsu and throwing shuriken construct projectiles
Spike projectile shooting
Entrapment of an enemy via a cage.
Twin Shields, Playing card projectiles and smokescreen/Coin projectiles, the coin ones depend on Drive’s luck though.
Teleports a fraction of Drive’s Body to another area or creates portals.
Enhanced power and defense
Gives Drive analytical power, enhanced reflexes and the ability to multitask and detect enemies from behind him.
Enhanced Super Speed with rocket boosters and more power. Able to resist Super Heavy Acceleration.
Healing Factor, albeit a very painful one.
Self-repair to Drive’s armor
Nitro power boost to enhance speed
Hologram projections
A Drill that can pierce the Roidmudes!
Light projection to blind enemies
Grappling hook!
Spanner fist
chomping claws and elastic “tongue” on the claws.
freezing blast ability
Cement gun
Fire extinguisher and extendable robotic arm
Acme 10 ton weight and gravity distortions
lifting jack
Able to fuse the power of 3 Shift cars into one super ability or all of them. Able to resist all forms of Heavy Acceleration. Energy Shield
Also, like Fourze, Wizard and Deacde, Drive’s powers are compatible with Super Sentai powers as he can use a Ninninger Nin Shuriken to turn Tridoron into a Zord. Though that was just a one-off thing.
Signature Finishers:
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Full_Throttle_(finisher)
Weaknesses:
A big one is Shinnosuke needs Mr. Belt to transform and given that he is an A.I., that means he is vulnerable to hacking or tampering to make the once friendly scientist into a violent killing machine via evil programming and use Drive’s body in Type Tridoron to hurt others.
The Shift Cars can be captured, immobilized or damaged. In some cases, the villains could even control them and use them against Drive.
Shinnosuke can be killed, even when in Rider form as the battle with Freeze seemingly showed. Meaning a more powerful opponent with devastating firepower can kill Drive if enough effort is put in or he somehow has no access to his defensive abilities. Despite being protected from singularities, he is not entirely immune to distortions in time and can be affected by them. (Though this was a bit inconsistent as he somehow remembered being a hero later when this happened.)
Stronger Heavy Acceleration waves can severely damage Drive or slow him down. But modifications and successions to his base Core Driviar system thanks to Dr. Hendrickson and Rinna in newer forms slowly negates this weakness to the point it is not an issue as he can maintain his movement.
Enemies:
Roidmudes:
Tumblr media
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Category%3ARoidmudes
Androids created by Tenjiro Banno and Krim Steinbelt who possess sapient, advanced level intelligence, human mimicry abilities and a wide variety of powers as well as the ability to generate Heavy Acceleration.
In a nice nod to the original Kamen Rider, the low level types of Roidmudes are divided into three of the classic Rider mythology monsters: Bat Type, Spider Type and Cobra Type.
Roidmudes are capable of evolving to even stronger forms: Advanced, Giant, and the rare Super Evolved State, which grant Roidmudes new abilities and greater power and stronger Heavy Acceleration effects. Their goal is to create a utopia for their race by attaining The Promised Number of evolution.
Among the Advanced Roidmudes are several generals/leaders:
Heart
Brain
Medic
Freeze
And their enforcer/reaper: the mysterious Mashin Chaser.
And secretly pulling the strings of these events from the shadows is.....
Tenjuro Banno/Gold Drive:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The KARR to Krim’s KITT)
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Tenjuro_Banno
Tenjuro Banno was a horrible and insane human being and even worse as an A.I.. An abusive, petty, cold, manipulative, ego-driven, sadistic and narcissistic black soul who believed the world owed him tribute to his “genius”. Seeing those that help him as nothing but pawns, even his own family as his two kids need a therapist after all the stuff he pulled. He is the cause of the first Global Freeze as a “ test experiment” and planned everything, as the rebellion of the Roidmudes was no accident but planned by him.
Like Krim, he uploaded his consciousness into an A.I. after being killed and slowly let his schemes come to fruition, even faking helping and reforming when reunited with his son and Krim to steal more tech Team Drive used and render it useless against him. He even managed to kill a Kamen Rider fans came to like over the course of the series. (I won’t say who though.)
He truly was a villain fans loved to hate for how dirty he played and demented he was, helped by the fact he was played by voice actor Masakazu Morita whom anime fans know can play crazy in a way that gives you shivers. He also was formidable as an evil Kamen Rider as he could pull off a wide array of powers, including swiping the weapons of the heroes away from them via teleport!
Neo-Shade:
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Neo-Shade
A Terrorist group that Shinnouske was trying to track down before the series, they resurfaced in the final episode and were dissolved as their leader was captured. No seeming relation to the real Shade from Kamen Rider G other than its name.
Remember, the world has a drive that goes faster than ever, but as long as you yourself have a drive in life, you can be in Top Gear and go along for the Ride!

2016 retrospective (writing)
I am once again shamelessly stealing @defeateddetectives‘ year end fic review meme. :D
Total word count: 95,357 including various attempts at original fiction, or probably around 28 - 29k for fics, counting one-shots + some hand-waved amount representing new words added when editing the last few Finding Home chapters.
(The rough drafts of which were finished during November last year, and thus don’t count towards the total.)
Fandoms written in: Natsume, Their Story, Chihayafuru, Books of the Raksura, Shirobako, Bodacious Space Pirates, Suisei no Gargantia
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
Hmm, looking at my list of goals in last year’s retrospective, I’d say probably less? I participated in more fic exchanges than I expected, but essentially didn’t write any fic outside of those exchanges, and the ofic story-a-month challenge petered out around, uh ... March. :’)
What’s your own favorite story of the year?
I feel like I should say Finding Home, for reasons of 250k XD
If we’re talking fics I wrote this year, as opposed to just edited, hm. Probably all these years? It was certainly the most blatantly self-indulgent. XD And probably overall the most fun to write, too.
I also have a huge soft spot for the ridiculous fake anime references I came up with for step by step, though, and Proposition was a delightful opportunity to write for my favorite pairing in that show. <3
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I dipped my toes into romance a lot more frequently and tbh rather deeper than I expected. It’s still not something I’m comfortable writing, but I at least am less likely to spontaneously combust in the process. XD
I’ve also poked around in a lot more new fandoms than last year, which probably felt a lot riskier than it actually was.
Do you have any fanfic or ofic goals for the New Year?
Hahaha. XD Well, this year was the year of being tired and generally lacking motivation re: writing, so. I’d really like to figure out how to more consistently enjoy writing again. Not sure whether that involves more rest or some soul-searching or what. :P
I’d also like to start writing ofic short stories more seriously, but my inspiration for those has generally been even lower than for fics. :P
So let’s just say: participate in a few fic exchanges, have some sort of plan for NaNo by the time that rolls around, and take the rest as it comes.
My best story of this year:
I honestly don’t know? This has also been a year for enjoying what I write, but feeling completely at a loss as to what it’s actual quality is. :P
Well, Finding Home, if I get to count that, because I think it came to an end more cleanly and satisfyingly than it had any right to. XD
Otherwise ... maybe Promise? I thought it did a pretty good job of building a missing scene that had been referenced in canon.
My most popular story of this year:
Finding Home by a landslide, if we’re counting that. XD  Otherwise, all these years by hit count / kudos, or Promise by comments.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I’m going to continue with last year’s theme and say step by step, Proposition, and Dance, on the theory that Shirobako, Bodacious Space Pirates, and Suisei no Gargantia are the canons that I think are most under-appreciated by the universe. :D
Most fun story to write: all these years. Self-indulgent HP AU, what else would you expect? :D
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Pffft. Well, at least there are contenders this year, weak as they are. XD
all these years, Proposition, and Dance all had kissing. all these years was probably the ‘hottest’ of the three, but Proposition was probably my favorite.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
This year I wrote a bunch of characters that I’d never written before, but I don’t think my perception of any of them shifted all that much -- deepened, perhaps.
Hardest story to write:
All of them? :P
a date(?) at the movies probably fought me the hardest, but I think all these years and Performance were the only ones that were easy-ish.
Biggest Disappointment:
Not managing to scrape enough motivation and ideas together in time to write something for Asexual Awareness Week this year. (I did belatedly come up with some ideas, so I’m still hoping to write a very late contribution, but we’ll see if my motivation ... exists. XD)
Biggest Surprise:
The fact that Finding Home’s kudos count still occasionally increases?
Probably, from the perspective of broader trends in my writing, how many of my stories this year were female-centric or outright femslash. (~50%)
I also didn’t really expect that I’d jump between quite as many fandoms as I did, but I’m not sure I’d necessarily call it a surprise, either.

One Punch Man 13 (S2 Ep 1) | Afterlost 1 | RobiHachi 1 | Kimetsu no Yaiba 2 - 3 | BSD 25 - 26 (S3 Eps 1 - 2) | King of Prism - Shiny 7 Stars 1 | Shield Hero 14 - 16 | Double Decker! EX 3 | Sarazanmai 2
The shows that have made it this season will be getting their tags...soon. Because I fell behind early in the season, trying to read ahead is nastier than it really should be...
Update: I forgot to roll out the tags...! Sorry about that.
One Punch Man 2 1
This season’s name…sounds counterintuitive, to say the least.
I love how Genos is carrying a box of hijiki (which looks like hair) and Saitama’s wearing a shirt that says “hair” (in kanji) all over it. It’s funny for a bald man and his “work of modern art”.
I never knew Genos was so blunt. Maybe because the last season was a good 2 – 3 years ago…and was by Madhouse and Shingo Natsume, and so this feels slightly different.
Oh, Sonic…! I didn’t realise how much I missed you! (Not to mention, you look hot with the off-the-shoulder shirt, y’know?)
“Enoki” is a type of mushroom.
Oh, Garou!...Oh wait, there isn’t much more of the episode left, is there…?
Afterlost 1
Oh great…this is the second time the subs don’t work on my device of choice. Then again, it seems to be a problem with the ad blocker and not the video…Okay, fiddling with the ad blocker worked.
Let’s play Spot the Main Character Amongst All the CGI Guys! Yay! (obviously sarcastic)
Without the volume…this OP is, to not put it lightly, s***.
Shoumetsu means “extinction”, not “lost”.
And the reward for Jankiest CGI this season belongs to…
Okay…this is stupid…if it f**ks up even more, I’m out of here!
I know the horned owl is your mascot, but that doesn’t mean you needed a real owl.
Waittttttttt…how did the scientists know Yuki’s father was responsible for this stuff anyway?
I feel like Takuya was shoehorned in. I mean, there’s a better example of this character type in Naofumi (Shield Hero).
This guy’s name, as we know it, is Geek. Wow (sarcastic). Also, I find it funny Takuya has a “ta” on his licence plate.
“…she’s just a package.” - Welp, you don’t get any more blatant than that for female denigration! I think Anime Feminist had a field day with this one.
Come to think of it, I saw some helmets back at Geek’s place but Takuya never seems to use one…
You had one job, Takuya…*sigh*
I swear I said a few previews ago I don’t like 1st person cam…no one ever listens to me, do they???
Not dis shitto agen!
Okay, enough complaining. It seems Yu-no wasn’t bad enough, so they had to produce something like the Chaos Dragon and Seisen Cerberus of old…
RobiHachi 1
It’s Takamatsu being Takamatsu again. Also… I forgot to mention this earlier, but…Taiga Umatani seems to be related to Kurari Umatani (who is credited for Boueibu), so…I wonder if it’s a collective writer’s name for Studio Comet, like Izumi Todo for Toei? The only thing that goes against that is the fact “Kurari” existed during the Diomedea days of Boueibu. Also Isekandar seems to be related to Yamato’s Iscandar (which Takamatsu seems to like, based on the fact he once used Matsumoto metres as a shorthand for being in space). If you don’t understand, Yamato’s endgoal contains a place called Iscandar and that’s by Leiji Matsumoto.
Okayyyyy…what are these rabbit creatures…? But yes, it does smack of Boueibu simply because the episode layout’s the same.
Hmm…? So Robby seems be En (the do-nothing life) in spirit, but Kinshiro in background, but also he runs away from his fortune. “Hmm” indeed.
Oh! That’s what this string of misfortunes reminds me of! The monsters of the day from Boueibu.
Acrymalide.
Hatchi is a Kinshiro in looks but an Atsushi by being a goody-goody.
Hmm…they actually bother to show girls now…apparently Takamatsu went to a boys-only school, which is why his original works focus on dudes (as in, you can pick out when Takamatsu is adapting someone else’s work because it has a heavier focus on girls as supporting characters).
Mechs and spaceships are probably two of the only ways I accept CGI…and you, Takamatsu sir, have just done it (the latter)!
Aw! Lookit his (Hatchi’s) face light up like a Beppu’s! It’s cute!
Hatchi getting out the hatch…lame, but still somewhat effectve on me (because that’s my wordplay game you’re playing, Takamatsu…!).
LOL, it’s a transforming mech. It seems my words from a few comments earlier were basically foretelling the future.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 2
Yikes, “Sakonji Urokodaki” has a lot of strokes…
My Little Sister Lives For Headpats…hey wait, don’t all anime kid sisters do that(?)
For some reason, I know the “Don’t Lose Your Way” meme from Kill la Kill and yet I’ve never…watched KlK…?(!)
I swore that was Giyu (it’s the haircut, I swear), but it’s a random demon…
When all you have is a hatchet…use your head. (LOL)
Ooh, nice eyecatch!
This is really black comedy, in a sense. (I remember this demon fight from the manga which is why I say that.)
Hmm…this wispy stuff wasn’t in the manga.
Come to think of it, I don’t know how Tanjiro got his scar…
If you squint really hard, you can see CGI Urokodaki and Tanjiro…
He probably has no footsteps because of his shoes. Or the fact he’s a ninja. Were there ninja in the Taisho era…? Update: Tanjiro has the same kind of shoes…oops.
Come to think of it, Daisuke from DN Angel had to dodge traps every day before he became Dark…(thinking of this because I reread the first volume of DN Angel recently)
Oh! Manga panel preview! That’s quite fun, really.
Kimetsu no Yaiba 3
I just really like how Tanjiro’s eyes grew larger with what was clearly resolution before he closed the door.
Why do the non-descript hunters look like Giyu too…?
I’ve never seen KnY so comedic…and that’s coming from someone who thought the Head Demon fight from last episode was funny.
Welp, this is…kinda interesting (<- says a fan of Touken Ranbu).
This letter writing…it reminds me of Kekkai Sensen somewhat.
This realistic water…it’s beautiful, but it looks like it came straight out of Niagara Falls. Is that…too realistic for anime?
“No matter…”
It’s a fox version of Speed of Sound Sonic! Then again, the real Sonic is around this season and probably won’t be happy about that comparison…
Is “that guy”…Giyu? Or the demon who slaughtered Tanjiro’s family?
Spider lilies! I didn’t mention it last time, but the symbolism of the spider lily makes the ED real cool.
Bungou Stray Dogs 26
I’v read the wiki page for Chuuya enough to know the next few eps involve the LN Fifteen, so even though I haven’t read a translation of the source material, I know some of the ins and outs of it already.
Ooh! Kitty! (If you’re a manga reader, you’ll know the cat’s significance.)
I think at this point in time, all viewers are used to Dazai’s bulls*** by now.
Is it just me…or did Bones use CGI for the city? It actually looks kind of good…! Sasuga Bones!
I have a fic that predates Fifteen and could be set in the same period (the fic’s vague enough that it could’ve been them at 15, 18 or even 12)…and basically the only thing I got wrong was the fact Chuuya doesn’t have his hat (because I wrote Chuuya as having his hat in the fic). Also, the banter is tenser than I imagined it, but that’s subjective and something only I, the fic writer, can compare.
I wonder who the yellow-tinted Ability holder is…? Update: That’s Randou. Spoke too soon.
There was a box in the subs…I wonder what symbol that might’ve been.
“…closest to the explosion.”
BSD 3 2
Oh, so that’s what Randou was for! I see now.
Chuuya may be OP, but he’s one heck of a fun character…also, he’s not as OP as Saitama, so…yeah.
Oh, the ED from last time is the OP. I should’ve known.
I like the almost storybook-style of this episode!
I thought Dazai was faking releasing the hostages…I was wrong.
Face-stealing aliens return! (They were around last ep too, I think, but they were harder to see then.)
Again, watch for the cat!
Well, with only one suspect (or 3, if you count the Sheep kids), it was quite easy to figure out one of them was behind it. I kind of suspected Randou, anyway, considering what I’ve learnt from all the mysteries I’ve read.
Because I was watching this episode with the volume down low (so I could hear the OP and ED), the volume really did work wonders for the plot this ep…!
King of Prism – Shiny 7 Stars 1
This is the final debut of the season, so basically how this and Shield Hero perform will decide what will stay and what will go. Oh, yeah…apparently this is the companion to a movie, but the movie and TV series have slightly different content.
This dude’s (the one at the very start’s) so grumpy.
…welp, I didn’t expect it to be that much CGI.
This chunk of exposition…makes me feel like I missed something. It was probably in the previous movies, come to think of it…
Basically, this is…uh, Makura no Danshi or Room Mate all over again??? I’m noping out of here…! Bye!
Shield Hero 14
I’m putting this on the chopping block…just so you know.
…uh, age gap romance? It’s hard to tell at this stage, but they (Filo and Melty) sure act like it is romance.
Welp, this survived the chopping block. “Raphtalia backstory” is a good enough reason to stick around for, isn’t it?
Double Decker! EX 3 (FINAL)
I always miss the OP when I’m not watching Double Decker, but I miss the ED even more…
I can’t believe they tried to get away with a Spirited Away parody…!
I can’t believe I get to see Dr Apple all buttered up like this…
I love how Kirill is censoring himself. (At least he can prove he’s not a girl, unlike Valery/Milla, whose entire shtick is the confusion between genders.)
Oh! I think I know the answer to the case already! It was Kirill’s soap, so Doug is the “killer”. But then…why is it Derick, of all people???
LOL, the angles were so reminiscent of Detective Conan…
Underwear-stealing sextuplets…? Why does that kind of sound like Osomatsu-san…?
Ahh…I really am going to miss this ED. See you next time!
Shield Hero 15
I never thought Raphtalia would be so angry…that’s Naofumi’s job.
Okay…it’s the age-old question: do demis listen with their animal ears or their human ears? Do they even have human ears??? (That’s 2 questions, isn’t it…?)
Uh…CGI dinosaur, much?
Shield Hero 16
…and of course, the Queen is a loli. Of course (<-sarcastic).
“Why’d I even have to feed this KFC farm?” – LOL, but I wonder what it sounded like in Japanese…? (i.e. I didn’t listen to it and when I try to do that, there’s always something over the top of it…)
Sarazanmai 2
I wonder if I’ll ever get used to watching Ikuhara on a weekly basis…?
Kappamaki…geddit?
Wait…y’mean, Keppi’s breath smells like cucumbers? Uh…okay, TMI.
Enta’s Japanese house kind of looks like the one in Mawaru Penguindrum.
Wait…why does the Japanese word for “Fish Buffet” (Osakanazanmai) end in –zanmai? Does that mean Sarazanmai is…Dish Buffet?! (LOL)
Notably, one of the signs said “Union” in katakana. It must be an English play on words…y’know, trade union and union = connecting with each other? I’m surprisingly enjoying myself a lot with Sarazanmai, by the way. I didn’t think I would, but I am!
I think that might be Irohassu water. Or Dasani. I saw both those brands in Japan, but I don’t remember which had the green flowers.
Oh…my goodness! Nekoyama (Cat Mountain) Mokichi (written with kanji for “hair” and “luck”). It’s a Boueibu monster! Frick, I’m laughing too hard!
It’s very small and very thin, but the word next to the cat in the eyecatch is neko.
“…Meow God!” – It’s a pun on “Oh, My God!” but with a “meow” in it. It’s pretty forced, but it does get the nuance of the joke across…
Why the heck did the subbers choose “herb” as the word for weed in this? “Weed” is sufficient, right? Right…?
Well…if that spurt of water wasn’t symbolic…I don’t know what is.
The title translates better as “…but I want to steal”. Y’know, add a little force into it.
The two As and the “sara” below it seem to make a zombie face, huh?
Ooh, that ending…

What Will the 2020s Be Like?
DEC 13 2019
I focus a lot in this blog on technology, because it’s something I understand, and also because it does very much transform society and civilization. The cotton gin made slavery sustainable, and the Civil War, therefore, inevitable.
Tech made WW1 the deadliest war ever, and many believe that the advances of tech in the 1920s (radio, telephone, automobiles, etc) was so disruptive, it made the Great Depression inevitable.
WW2 wasn’t so much brought on by advances in technology, but more than any other event before it (or arguably since) it catapulted technology forward. From the first rockets and computers, to the first atomic bombs.
I grew up in the 1970s, which was the peak of the analog world... the world of newspapers, and three-network broadcast TV.  There was an antenna on every roof... a pay phone and a mail box on every street corner. Cameras used film, recorders used tape, and electric typewriters had ribbons.
Your watch and your clock were analog, as was your record player. Your electric guitar had pick ups that fed an analog signal to an amplifier with a tube inside it. And your car... well all the gauges on your dashboard had needles. Any feedback systems it had, such as the automatic transmission, power steering, or the carburetor, relied on fluid dynamics or vacuum pressure.
Tech-wise, the 1970s wasn’t much different from the 1960s or the 1950s, other than doing all these things more cleverly... as one would expect after several decades of honing techniques.
Politically, however, the 1970s was a lot different from the 1950s, because of all the upheaval and transformation that happened through the 1960s. Civil rights were finally being taken seriously. The Draft had disappeared in favor of an all volunteer military. Social conformity was out the window forever. Secularism was on the rise, abortion was legal, and divorce was becoming more common and more acceptable.
Conservatives have never gotten over these political changes, which is why they have, in every succeeding decade, fought dirtier and more desperately to regain control of society... still dreaming to this day of overturning Roe V Wade, for example, but also longing to bring back racism, the subjugation of women, the persecution of gays, and state sanctioned Christianity to the exclusion of all other religions... and of science.
Not that I want this entry to be a screed about conservatism... so let’s just acknowledge that they’ve always been out there, through the 1960s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and teens... struggling like hell to claw us all back to the 1950s any way they can... and move on...
Having grown up in the 1970s, I became of teenager of the 1980s.  So I can recall clearly that what made the 1980s different from the previous three decades was the advent of, “electronics.”
I put that word, “electronics,” in quotes to emphasize that this was still a world that did not have computers as we know them now, and nobody thought of their electronic devices as being, “digital”.
Yes, home computers existed in the 1980s... for hobbyists. I even had a very crude home computer, the Timex/Sinclair 2000 in the early 80s, but there wasn’t much you could do with it, and after it flopped, all support for it vanished.
This was the story for a lot of home computers in the 1980s. If they were useful for anything, it was teaching you how to program in BASIC, and learn the fundamentals about how these analytical engines worked, but many people saw them as kind of a fad.
Only super hardcore computer geeks really stuck with them through the 1980s.  The rest of us just kind of lived our lives, knowing they were out there, but not really thinking they would ever matter much.
Electronics, on the other hand, was seen as a different kind of tech that really did revolutionize our everyday lives in this decade before the World Wide Web came into its own.
The term, “electronic,” was for any device from the analog days, that now had a circuit board inside it... with transistors on it... maybe a chip?  People didn’t talk a lot about chips in the 80s, even if they did exist inside our devices.
A Telephone, for example, was an analog thing in the house, with big curly cords.  In the early 70s, they still all had analog dials on them.  By the late 70s, they all had all become, “touch tone,” with a keypad that sounded, “electronic,” tones to do the “dialing.”  But the first truly electronic phones, were the magical cordless phones... with the stubby antenna on the handset that you could amazingly take all the way out to the front stoop!
This same kind of transformation happened to everything... from digital clocks, to electronic tape decks, cameras, speedometers, and even typewriters with little LCD screens on them, that could save what you were writing to little discs... which they called, “word processors.” :O
There were a million hand held devices... I remember owning an electronic dictionary and thesaurus, about the size of a small tablet today, and twice as thick, with a tiny LCD screen.  It allowed you to play a few shitty word based games like hangman.  It seemed like a modern marvel.
Video arcade games, of course, had a massive impact on our lives in the 1980s, as well as the first home game consoles, for those who could afford them... usually the upper middle class families that also could afford cable TV.
And after video games, the other huge tech that really transformed our lives was the video recorder.  Again, you had to have some money to own one back then, but those giant, klunky camcorders of the day were a massive improvement over the old Super8 film cameras that only recorded video, with no sound.
With a camcorder, you not only could capture both video and sound, but on magnetic tape, rather than film... which meant you could watch it immediately. No need to have it developed... or rent a projector!
I could go on, but the point here is that the 1980s was a time when the analog world of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, was being magically transformed by electronics, and we really felt like electronics were going to allow us to do anything... and  yet nobody imagined home computers, networked together, would be a part of that.
The original Ghost Busters movie from 1984 is a wonderful example of this, because it’s set in the real world... which is beset by the supernatural problem of ghosts, spirits, vengeful gods that range from nuisances, to existential threats, but heretofore have never been tangible, touchable, or provable.
But three, clever, modern men of the 1980s have developed an arsenal of electronic devices to deal with these ghosts.  They can detect and analyze them, track them, attack them, trap them, and hold them in a containment grid... all with state of the art transistorized tech.
The movie really captured the feeling of the times, like no other... that we can use electronics, here on Earth (rather than in a galaxy far far away) to deal with problems in our everyday lives (rather than hacking into NORAD to teach an AI that nuclear war is pointless) and be heroes in our home town.
Young people did take that message to heart, embracing electronics to do what young people like to do... create stuff.  In 21st century parlance we would say they were creating, “content,” but at the time, the big problem was in publishing said content.
Garage bands recorded songs and albums. Others recorded videos, both long, short, and very short form videos.  People wrote poems and prose on their word processors... started, “zines,” which were published using photocopiers, in stapled booklets.
All this stuff we attempted to shop to big publishers, who’s gate keepers ignored it, so we tried to sell zines, and indie tapes in local record stores, or showcase local videos at get-togethers in coffee houses.   We developed an, “underground,” of indie music, video, writing, comics, etc... which relied on a network of high school and college students disseminating copies of content from hand to hand, throughout the country, and across the pond.
Most of the greatest musicians and other artists of the 1980s... the ones who did get signed to indie studios to produce more professional material... were never acknowledged by the mainstream media... which by the 80s was under the control of 30-something baby-boomers whose only agenda was to celebrate their own youth, and crank out cheep garbage pop for commercial consumption.
So, when the 1990s arrived, and the World Wide Web came into being, with cheep, but reliable home computers that had dial up modems to get anybody with a paycheck online... that underground movement from the 80s took it over immediately.
Most of us had at least some prior experience with BASIC, as mentioned above, and knew the fundamentals about computing... even if we hadn’t used that knowledge much for several years.
Now, those skills were suddenly relevant, and most of us were still young enough (in our twenties now, rather than our teens) to take on the learning curves necessary to do everything from code HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, but learn how to work on and upgrade our machines, how to master operating systems and all the big applications... the word and graphics processors, the animation tools, the video tools, the audio tools... how to get freeware... how to make freeware... you name it.
The teens of the 1980s, including those hard core computer hobbyists mentioned above, who helped build the primordial backbone that would become the WWW a decade later, built the internet.  We pioneered it, formatted it’s culture... of memes, piracy, boundless creativity, and the free sharing of ideas and technology.
And we did it all in the late 1990s and early 2000s before the mainstream media had any real clue that this silly internet thing could be come kind of a threat to their carefully curated analog kingdom.
Flaming and trolling were things back then... conspiracy theories, fake news, and disinformation were problems back then... but they were manageable. Nothing like what they are now, at the end of the twenty-teens.
The problem there, is that in the twenty-teens, the old conservative farts finally left the safe confines of AOL and began to slowly populate places like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter... as did all the AM radio shock jocks they listened to.
At the same time, “Big Media,” began to take the internet seriously as a threat, with YouTube and Netflix stealing so many of their captive eyeballs and earlobes, and launched a hostile takeover of the internet that continues to play out to this day... with Disney buying up every franchise and attempting to shut down Netflix, and net neutrality itself having been destroyed by the Trump administration two years ago now, allowing ISPs to partner with big media outlets and throttle competitors content, as they all attempt to stamp out independent, original content altogether.
YouTube’s on life support, for independent creators. Tumblr is a zombie husk of what it was just two years ago. Twitter is a hellscape.  Facebook is for lifeless mannequins. Vine is dead. Blogger and LiveJournal are forgotten to time. MySpace, Geocities and AngelFire... all ashes now.  All destroyed by blind corporate greed and the same  army of bigoted killjoys we’ve been trying to beat back since the dawn of civilization.
Still, technology continues to evolve, and the internet of 2019 is not the desktop computer based internet of 1999.  Twenty years later, it’s become a wireless internet that’s expanded to include very powerful handheld devices which can do everything every, “electronic,” device of the 1980s did, and much more... all in a thing that fits in your shirt pocket.
This changes the game going into the 2020s, as smart phones settle into their final form factor... and slowly begin to assume their ultimate role as the, “mission brain,” for an individual’s life.
In the 2020s, my phone will not just bluetooth to my watch, and be the thing I bank and shop with, as it is today.  It will talk to my car, if I still own a car.  It will talk to my house, if I own a house.  It will talk to my smart glasses, overlaying my view of the world with augmented reality. It will be even talk to me... and work with me to solve any problem I might have... from finding a dog walker, to complex legal and financial issues.
From a political perspective... it will represent me in polls... the way today’s smart phone and land line phones have never done.  And it will register me to vote, remind me when to do it three weeks early, and clear my schedule, and get me a ride if necessary... meaning voter turnout will be far higher than ever before among the younger demographics... from 18 to 55... or GenZ up to GenX... with aging Boomers still sitting on Facebook at their desktops, paying their bills with paper checks unable to understand why even primaries and midterms are largely decided by the time they show up in their walkers to vote straight Republican down the ticket, like what’s worked in their favor for many decades.
The bigger picture here, if you zoom back... is that, with the form factor of smart phones having been worked out in the twenty-teens, the big advances in the 2020s will be in the AI those devices have.
And that coming level of AI, will allow individuals to continuously circumvent any roadblocks the corporate and political behemoths of old try to lay down for us... from bureaucratic red tape and voter suppression, to monopolization of media and markets, to censorship and the moderation of free speech.
I know all of that sounds idyllic and Utopian... and loudly echoes the original view of what the internet was gonna do for humanity, back in the 1990s... but much of what we have today would have seemed overly-futuristic and impossible just twenty years ago.
I’m sure there will still be a dark political backdrop to deal with, as today’s upsurge of racism and fascism around the world struggles to stay relevant.
And the effects of climate change through the 2020s will be another big source of darkness and drama like we are only beginning to see at the end of the teens... which will trigger major transformations in the way we all live.
Homes will get smaller and more efficient. Car ownership will dive to new lows. Families will get smaller, and suburban sprawl will ebb backward, creating, “ghost subdivisions,” haunted by the spirits of Karen and Craig.
They will follow the trend of today’s abandoned shopping malls, which will also only get worse.
Meanwhile, weed will come to be legalized nationally... as it is already doing state by state, leading to an eventual end to the War on Drugs, and much of the gang violence related to drug trafficking... as well as an influx of tax money, even before we’ve figured out how to tax the rich at a fair rate.
The 2020s will not be without their tumult and tribulations, but I believe that on the whole, compared to the twenty-teens, they will be a lot less crazy, and a lot more hopeful.
Time traveler traffic... also... won’t be nearly as heavy.... which will ease the craziness considerably.
As for aliens?... well... Trump might just get his Space Force so...  they will probably be taking the brunt of the trolling from the aliens, rather than the Air Force... for whatever that’s worth.
Time for bed.

Maybe it was the combination of all those colorful, kid-friendly movie posters against the backdrop of a bright blue sky and a warm easy-listening soundtrack. Maybe it was Gabriel Gundacker’s pure sincerity as he somehow channeled a whimsical combination of James Marsden, Noah Centineo, and that one neighbor of yours who never leaves home without a skateboard. Or maybe it was the sheer magic of the refrain, as if the words themselves contained an untapped power to elevate the consciousness: Zendaya is Meechee.
Whatever it was, Gundacker, a former Vine creator best known for writing good fake Wii soundtracks for silly fake Wii sports, instantly created the meme of the moment with his 47-second viral hit song:
Gundacker is singing about the upcoming animated film Smallfoot, about a clan of Yetis in search of proof that humans exist. Early reviews of the movie (which comes out this Friday) suggest it’s a fairly middling effort, but Gundacker has homed in on the essence of its marketing appeal: big-name actors playing ridiculously named characters.
As a veteran internet comedian, Gundacker clearly knows his craft. The song doesn’t just rest on the merits of Zendaya playing Meechee — no, Smallfoot’s cast yields a litany of nonsensical Yeti names for him to play with, including LeBron James as “Gwangi” and Danny DeVito as “Dorgle.” (Seriously, person who came up with the name “Dorgle,” millions dream of having your job, stop phoning it in.)
This is a familiar marketing gimmick, and it works. In the era of celebrity voice actors, how you bill the actor is just as important as having them to begin with. For example: The Emoji Movie cast Sir Patrick Stewart as Poop to double down on the thematic joke of trying to dress up a turd. The presentation is crucial, too: You announce the celebrity, like so:
Sony Pictures/IMDB Paramount/IMDB Warner Bros./IMDB Dreamworks/IMDB Dreamworks/IMDB
Of course, most of these character names sound more or less normal; it’s the combination of the familiar name with the Dadaist jangle of Smallfoot’s character list that’s truly inspired: Gwangi, Meechee, Kolka (Gina Rodriguez is Kolka).
You’ll note that Gundacker’s song skips over James Corden, who plays the boringly named Percy, and Yara Shahidi, who plays the lackluster Brenda — both human characters and therefore not deserving of a silly Yeti name like Dorgle. They don’t fit the meme, which is all about rejoicing because lo, our beloved stars have humbled themselves to play these abominable snowmen with their abominable snownames. And they’ve done all of this for us!
Okay, for the paycheck and for us.
Zendaya loved Gundacker’s meme, and so did everyone else, including Danny DeVito (he’s Dorgle) who retweeted it.
It’s going to be so confusing in 20 years when people are watching The Making Of His Dark Materials and in every shot of Lee Scoresby, he’s singing “Zendaya is Meechee…”
— Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) September 25, 2018
Zendaya is Meechee have 4.7 million views but only 109K likes, which leads me to believe everyone who liked it has watched it at least 43 times, which tracks. pic.twitter.com/XwINHZoxqs
— Sometimes I Fear You’re Touched (@doenahld) September 25, 2018
And within hours of “Zendaya Is Meechee” storming Twitter, there were already covers and variants:
This is yet another of many recent examples of memes going viral in part because they’re wholesome, silly, and fun, with no political agenda — just the thing we need to get us through these dark political times.
Gundacker seems to realize this, too, which is why the expanded Soundcloud version of “Zendaya Is Meechee” includes a lighthearted verse that basically says, “Let this song help you feel better about life.”
Of course, the ultimate winner here is Warner Bros., which will be raking in the profits next weekend from people who are now planning to see the movie because of the meme. But this song is so peppy, and Gundacker’s enthusiasm for the cast so infectious, that maybe just this once, we’ll let capitalism defeat us. After all: Zendaya is Meechee.

Marvel’s Loki Episode 4: MCU Easter Eggs and References
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains Loki spoilers.
“Marvel, you’ve done it again!”
OK, but seriously…this is the best episode of Loki yet, and one of the best examples of the MCU’s Disney+ TV strategy full stop. Plenty of drama and action, to be sure, but also packed with surprises, some of which are very much things that Marvel Comics and MCU fans will be excited about, and others a little more subtle.
Here’s all the good stuff we’ve found in Loki episode 4 so far. If you spot anything we missed, let us know in the comments!
Valkyrie
Young Sylvie (young Lady Loki? What’s the correct nomenclature here?) is playing with her toys, and is reenacting (or imagining) a legendary battle involving one of the Valkyrie.
The Origin of Sylvie
This episode makes it pretty clear that Sylvie is 100% a Loki, and had at least part of a childhood on Asgard.
There are some subtle touches with how we see her booked into the TVA. The pile of papers indicating “everything you’ve ever said” is much smaller than the one presented to Loki in episode one. The camera lingers on the scorched floor to indicate the real danger (and the one a child would feel) of that checkpoint disintegrating you, etc.
Considering the extremely traumatic and messed up way the TVA just stormed in and took Sylvie away, it pretty much explains her habit of never wanting to sit with her back to doors.
Not Natasha!
Hey, remember when the trailers for this show were hitting and everyone (including us) thought there was a shot of Loki talking to Black Widow’s soul on Vormir? Whoops! Turns out that was just Loki and Sylvie on Lamentis-1 after all!
Blade is Coming to the MCU
Mobius talks up all the different types of beings that they’ve dealt with, including “Kree, Titans, and vampires.” This is the first confirmation of vampires existing in the MCU, right? Blade reboot, here we come!
The Eternals Connection
When Mobius mentions “Titans” he isn’t talking about the team of DC heroes. Instead, the Marvel Titans are Eternals who primarily inhabit (wait for it) Titan, the homeworld of Thanos.
Kree
Any self-respecting MCU and Captain Marvel fan knows who the Kree are at this point, of course. But remember that we also saw a member of their rival species, a Skrull, being booked into the TVA in the first episode. The TVA’s jurisdiction is truly boundless.
Lady Sif
Loki is tortured by the (justifiably) abusive words and punches of Lady Sif, as played by Jaimie Alexander. Previously, Sif was quietly forgotten due to her notable lack of appearance in Thor: Ragnarok and the lack of any reference to her since then. In real life, it was because Alexander was busy with her TV show Blindspot.
As for the in-story reason, according to Kevin Feige, the official explanation is that after her appearances on Agents of SHIELD, Sif was banished from Asgard by Loki (disguised as Odin) in fear that she could expose his ruse to the rest of the realm. She was one of Thanos’ victims during the big snap, but was brought back five years later.
Interestingly, this encounter with Sif seems to be referencing a story from Norse mythology, although in a slightly skewed fashion. Here, Sif is annoyed with Loki for cutting her hair without her permission. But in Norse mythology (and at least one Marvel Comics story), Loki was the reason that Sif’s hair was black and not blonde, having magically changed it while she slept as a joke.
The Time-Keepers are Fake!
In the first Avengers movie, Nick Fury compared Loki to the Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of Oz, giving us the famous, “I understood that reference!” Captain America meme. This episode keeps the Loki/Wizard of Oz connection going with the way the Timekeepers are merely a fake identity meant to scare and grandstand. I guess we’ll have to wait to see who’s really behind the curtain, though.
Considering the way they’re laid out and dressed, the Timekeepers are most definitely supposed to be reminiscent of the Three Most Important People in the World, the futuristic utopian rulers who set things in motion in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure to keep the correct timeline intact.
#47
Sylvie is held in Time Theater 47. The number 47 has a strangely deep connection to science fiction. The number occurs frequently in Star Trek: The Next Generation. This is because writer Joe Menosky attended Pomona College, where 47 is something of a meme, due to two students in the ‘60s researching whether the number appears more frequently than others. The nameless protagonist of the Hitman videogame series is also named Agent 47.
The Variant Lokis and the Post-Credits Scene
Loki wakes up and we get an homage to that famed shot in Avengers when Loki finds himself on the ground, surrounded by hostile heroes. Except this time they are Lokis. And…is that a crumbling Avengers tower we see in the background.
Of all the variant Lokis, the most significant of these is…
Kid Loki
Kid Loki made his first appearance in Thor #617 in 2010. Feeling he had hit a dead end as the God of Mischief and was too distrusted for his schemes to matter, Loki set up his own death in the event Siege, where he was killed by the Void. He was reborn as his child self, from back when he was beloved and still relatively innocent. While mischievous, Kid Loki tried to break the chains of what his previous self had become and used his powers to help Asgard and his brother. By the time he proved himself heroic, the soul of the previous Loki was able to overtake his body and ride on his reputation.
The conclusion of that story suggested that the status quo wouldn’t allow for a heroic Loki for too long, but instead of going full-on evil again, the new form of Loki instead fell into bouts of guilt over his actions. This led to Kid Loki joining the Young Avengers and eventually aging himself up to a young adult.
So hey, Disney+ shows are three-for-three on introducing Young Avengers characters!
Alligator Loki
The alligator Loki doesn’t exactly come from the comics, but it does seem to be a nod to the incident where Loki transformed Thor into a frog during the Walt Simonson run of the Thor comics. While the adventure was short lived, Frog Thor was such a beloved concept that it’s been revisited various times, including making it a separate character (real name Simon Walterson, because of course).
Classic Loki
Richard E. Grant makes an absolutely perfect comics-accurate Loki. Not only is the costume a perfect version of the way the character was portrayed in the pages of Marvel Comics for decades, where Loki was far more evil than MCU fans might be used to and…also kind of looked like Richard E. Grant now that we think about it.
Also, folks who have been rightly noting the Doctor Who parallels on this show will also note Grant has played the Doctor in a couple of forms in his time, as well.
“Boastful Loki”
We don’t know who that cool looking armored Loki wielding what looks like Mjolnir is exactly, but he’s credited as “Boastful Loki.” He sounds fun.
Miscellaneous Time Variants
Even though they’ve been around since the first episode, the “So… you’re a variant,” posters on the desk in the end credits certainly hits differently, doesn’t it?
The Moonlighting energy that we were getting last week with Sylvie and Loki seems to have been transferred this week to Loki and Mobius. Not that we’re complaining.
When Loki wakes up during the post-credits scene, he wonders whether he has arrived in hell. But of course, the closed captioning reveals that Loki is speaking of Hel, the Norse underworld overseen by the goddess Hel.
