"this is duchess satine whom i have an intricately crafted and decades-old rivalry with to see who can pick up the most morosexuals in our personal entourages" the crowd goes wild. satine herself is 200% more interesting when writers allow her to stand on her own and not just as a prop to obi-wan. also ppl who ship obtine are missing out on the most illustrious joy of padme/satine.

MINAH — objectively, herself. not even from an inflated ego perspective or anything just in the sense of like, she's the most important person in her own life. it's kind of a pragmatic egoism I guess. VESPER — her inner inner circle. the handful of people who are truly closer than close, who make her feel like a person again when she gets caught up in the mask of the inquisitor (or even just the mask of a mage). she'd go to bat for any of the inner circle without a question (and a few of the outer circle; looking at you scout harding), but there are a few who are just Her People and mean more to her than she does to herself LIRA — on the one hand, the People of Ferelden(TM). on the other, her family. so much of what she does it for the grief of losing her family and the way that forever changes her. nobody else quite fills that hole inside her, though a couple of the companions come close.

VESPER — really, truly, at the end of the day she's just a teacher. it's how she leads and it's how she interacts with her friends and it's how she touches the world. all she's ever wanted to do has been to share what she knows and make the world better for the people coming after her. LIRA — warden. she closes herself off to everything else after her recruitment and no matter what else happens that's always going to be at the core of her being.

MINAH — being a shifty little thief. there's a lot of emotional baggage that goes into her petty crime lifestyle and she refuses to be sorry about it and if you have a problem with it that's on you. she doesn't super care what moralizing gets heaped on her; surviving is surviving VESPER — not to go with the obvious answer but it's gonna be the treatment of mages. she'll be polite about it for sure but she won't be shut down, no matter what. whatever else the circles might be—educational, structured, protective—they weren't kind. she has no problem saying that. LIRA — the atrocities committed by howe and loghain. she respects the importance of making allies, but she's seen too many people killed in their name to be quiet about it.

Are there any Soriku / sasunaru parallels in particular that make you lose it?

Okay there’s at least 15 that have been rattling around in my brain for months, but this post would be a mile long. So I’m gonna pick out the 7 that slapped me across the face the most upon first going from Naruto to KH. Let’s start with this one cause I sorta mentioned it not long ago:

My Riku / My Sasuke

If I had a nickel for every time a usually cheerful protagonist searching for their broody best friend who tried to kill them snapped because some slimy scientist who likes to play god spoke possessively about their best friend, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

Screenshots cannot do this justice. You have to see Sora literally bent over shaking in rage to understand why this is a remotely applicable comparison to Naruto going 4-tailed Kyuubi mode on the bridge… I hit the 10 pic limit, so iykyk… Also interesting how both boys have a demon form that’s triggered by rage, though Sora doesn’t have Rage Form yet in CoM.

The Dark Margin / The Valley of the End

Honestly, what beats finally starting to share your feelings and understand each other after so much conflict, which is meaningfully reflected by the setting — a place where two opposing but complementary forces meet and reconcile? Saying, “I love you,” without having to say it? At peace with dying because you’re finally together? Nothing. Nothing beats this. Together at the end of the world. Together at the end of this life, to walk side-by-side into the next one.

Yin and Yang, babey

Naruto and Sasuke quite literally possess the powers of Yang and Yin, respectively, to save the world. They get these sick sun and moon tattoos. Their chakras — yellow, hot, bright/purple, cold, dark — also reflect this dichotomy. Sora and Riku have the whole Symphony of Sorcery, which is very day, sky, warm/night, ground, cold — visual representations of their complementary heart songs. Their [light and darkness are] Eternal Session. The Gayblade.

What’s nice about Sora and Riku is that it’s more obvious that they work in yinyang, though. During Eternal Session, for instance, they switch between who uses light and dark abilities, whereas Naruto and Sasuke’s chakras are strictly light and dark, respectively.

Taisetsu [na hito]

“When a person has something precious to protect, that’s when they can become truly strong.” Riku and Naruto actually share this parallel — becoming strong to protect their precious people (Sora and Sasuke). This is a core aspect of their characters and respective arcs. It’s pretty self-explanatory.

But this theme applies to Sora and Sasuke, too, as the ones who first show Riku and Naruto this strength of heart — they “save” Riku and Naruto, literally and figuratively, and this is part of what drives Riku and Naruto to return the favor when it’s Sora and Sasuke in need of saving.

Additionally… Sasuke has to kill the person most precious to him to achieve ultimate power but can’t no matter how hard he tries because he loves Naruto more than anything. This is the final tie to his heart, his humanity, that he just cannot sever… Sora spends all of CoM trying to find his most precious person. His memories are completely scrambled by the end and, amidst the chaos and lies, he clings to a singular truth, the only tie he knows is real — a promise to protect his most precious person. A promise, as it would turn out, he exchanged with Riku… Naruto and Riku are the final ties to their hearts and selves. That’s what I’m saying.

Riku and Sasuke laughing

…because of Sora and Naruto :) The two’s earnest foolishness, like making a funny face or still caring about a childhood rivalry on their deathbed, breaks through Riku and Sasuke’s doom and gloom, and for the first time ever we see them laughing! Despite everything that’s happened, everything they’ve done, there are truly some things that never change and some bonds that are unbreakable… It’s unconditional love, Sora and Naruto’s stubborn refusal to treat their beloved friends any differently, that warms Riku and Sasuke’s cold hearts.

Kakkoii

A Japanese term used to describe someone as cool/handsome/good-looking… and the word both Sora and Naruto use when they let slip that Riku and Sasuke are attractive.

Sora does this when he remarks that he’s not as handsome/good-looking as Yozora (though the clothes kind of match), to which Goofy is quick to point out Yozora looks a lot like Riku. In the EN dub, Donald simply agrees — but in JP, Donald actually teases Sora, “Very good-looking, huh?”

In early Shippuden, after Sai is introduced to the team, Sakura remarks that Sai looks a lot like Sasuke. Naruto, who wants nothing to do with Sai, is quick to scoff that Sasuke is way better looking than Sai, before he realizes what he said and quickly tries to backtrack.

It’s also worth noting, in earlier concepts of Sasuke’s character introduction, Naruto’s initial reaction to Sasuke (in this case, after being saved by him) is blushing and thinking, “Sasuke kakkoii…”

“Your hearts are always in tune, so they’re free to sing.” / “I know your heart, and you know mine.”

Homoromantic quotes that more or less mean the same thing… and more or less reveal how both pairings can sense/feel each other in different worlds, dimensions, etc… things that make me crazy. The Naruto series uses chakra connections, while KH has connected hearts. Naruto/Sasuke and Sora/Riku take those connections a step further… basically giving you the series’ equivalent of soulmates.

Each relationship is also the heart of their series. They embody the themes, the messages. They are the emotional core. They are what the story is about… And that story is undeniably a love story, regardless of what kind of love you see it as. ❤️ While there are many parallels between Soriku and SNS, they are by no means the same. But I adore both relationships.

I do have a question for you: I know how you feel about Jacks and Eva (and that whole disastrous spin-off), but what are your thoughts on the original trio (Scarlett, Tella, Julian… and Dante/Legend too I guess!)? Thoughts on the ships, the characters, the plot itself?

(Also, I’m glad your surgery went well, wishing for a speedy recovery and nothing but good news from here on out!!!) 💗💗💗

OH, EVERYONE WILL B HEARING THEM… i am annoying, babey!!!

((we don’t talk abt that fucking spin-off on this blog.. love and light <3 need to send eva back to her pre-algebra class fr.))

BUT THE ORIGINAL TRIO…. scarlett is honestly one of my fav ya mcs still… she’s got that eldest daughter syndrome burned into her + she’s so refreshingly sheltered and anxious, but has the strength at the core of her that feels so human and mundane … that said, i think maybe she should’ve smacked tella for killing herself and coming back to prove a point. as an elder sister, i think scarlett should be a bit more ruthless, don’t you agree?

and julian is also a nice departure from the typical ya male love interest, wherein he’s, like, actually respectful, omg?? and kind and sweet? i find him much more interesting than dante (though maybe that’s bc legend being his brother is important to his character development. i will accept legend for this reason and this reason alone.) honestly, out of all of the characters stephanie’s written, i think scarlett and julian are the most soulmate-coded out of all of them. i mean, they have matching white streaks in their hair bc they died together for a day <3 need i say more? the DEVOTION!!! even in the small things!!

i will forever mourn the fact that stephanie felt she wasn’t mature enough to write their love story in legendary… be soooo serious. i want to see it!!! instead we get, like, two scenes with scarlett and julian when actually i deserve a thousand of them. on top of that, it defs feels like lazy writing to ignore all that development that occurs in that book. many issues with this (>jst wants to see them kiss a bit more, ithink.)

((also they were quite possibly her strongest-written charas with the most compelling storyline… WHERE are they!!! i deserve to see more of them!!!!!))

OH ALSO, THEY WEREN’T A LOVE TRIANGLE (legend tried for,like , half a chapter, that doesn’t count), and that, my friend, is what i like to see in a soulmate couple. or in more ya couples in general, bc i literally can’t do this anymore. (>will make exceptions, as always)

i found tella to be fun, it a bit like most of the ya mcs in fantasy novels… but again,, you can’t tear a character that’s a bit of a bitch away from me. go harder. make her a feral bitch too. but, oughhh, the ya fantasy series doldrums… the love triangle… :// maybe i want tella to be meaner to jacks (and also i think jacks wants tella to be meaner to him too. many things to think of.) rather than running off with legend.

whiiiich brings me to legend. i kinda hate that he’s the way he is. he’s jst super up his own ass in a less engaging way than jacks is (i also want jacks dead. we all know how i feel about him. killing him with my mind.) not only that, but he’s boring. oh my god, he’s so boring. the romance with tella felt like stephanie chickening out / making the sisters fall in love with the brothers to make it nice and neat.. honestly, finding out she hadn’t decided who tella would end up with while she’d been plotting out the novel made me all the more enraged. we have a boring ass bitch here??? instead of jacks?? instead of an actually more engaging plotline? i want ppl that are horrible !!!! i’m here for an interesting time, not a wholesome one!

that said, i want jacks left out in the cold, where he’ll die alone. love him to bits. i hope he’s mauled by a wolf <3 i’ll also stick him in a little terrarium, if need be.

anyway, i… won’t lie, i think finale is probably the most interesting book (mostly bc we actually get to see mistress luck, god bless!!), but the scenes with tella and legend had me rolling my eyes. when has he ever been interesting enough to pine after? maybe tella should’ve jst remained single (and honestly, with that travesty of a scene in once upon a broken heart wherein all of the original characters had their personalities mauled to bits, it certainly fucking feels like tella’s single). but alas.

(yes, it defs did!!! my hand’s bruising a bit and my stitches are stinging like a bitch rn, but such is the nature of having a healthy hand in the end, i guess ;;;; )

okay post for completely me only. but it's been interesting thinking about AH men in the context of absolute nightmarism. that's a role I always associate slightly more with femininity (in very misogynistic ways lol bc of jealous/possessive/high maintenance common traits, and also bc universal recipient) but undeniably if I'm putting the Ali men on the axis it's top corner for sure, not all the way to the left tho - absolute nightmare-boy. the things that especially stick out to me beyond the possessiveness is being top of the field, generally uninterested in others opinions, specific and repetitive about personal appearance (Levi's black henleys LMFAO). and I think obviously pathological people pleasers are easy sweaterboys, but these women are on much more of a spectrum bc they have a lot more variety (as max pointed out last night, the women might just be better written). definitely Elsie most sb of all, universal donor babey. anyway this is fascinating to me for gender reasons, ie what does it mean to map this dynamic onto straight people and what does it do to their gender. it also proves the strength of the model; it is at its core "opposites attract" and you can sort of mold it like playdoh with anything fitting that trope. of course, opposites attract is 10x more interesting when it's not relying on assumed gender differences. I need a third axis for the absolute/sweater/boy/nightmare graph, for adherence... I wonder if I could somehow combine the pairings graph and the individuals graph. actually breakthrough this is why a lot of the AH sexual dynamics don't work great for me bc it's dark fuck prince. wow. wow. dark fuck prince will always always always come back around to haunt you... the tumblr sexyman will never die. kylo.ren is the fucking onceler. okay and with that, post over!

You close your eyes and reflect on your situation. There’s a lot to unpack.

An image of the two of you sitting with your new core hovering gently between you fills your mind. “So, are we the same person now?” you ask.

Humphrey ponders. “I’m not sure. I still feel like me, I think.”

“Are you ok with us being like this?”

“I think so.. this is all really new and weird. I didn’t even know I was a missing piece. Or, maybe you’re the missing piece?”

“Yeah.. I guess we were missing each other..” you quietly respond.

You sit together in silence for a bit.

“I’m not sure which of us is driving,” you say after a bit, “I’m not even sure if I’m really just in your mind or if you’re in mine.”

“Maybe it’s both?” they say thoughtfully, “I think I’m still me, and you’re still you, yeah? But, maybe we can still be one unit here. We’re a team, and we can still work together like this.”

“Maybe… What if you wanted to leave?” you stare into the soft light of your new core, “I don’t know if we can do that now.”

“I don’t think I want to leave. We’re stronger together, and.. it’s silly, but I’ve never really traveled much. It sounds like you’re gonna be seeing a lot of the world, and I wanna come with.”

You sidle over to them and give them a hug. You feel an immense amount of affection for this goofy little slime. Something about this feels familiar. Tears well up in your eyes and you don’t know why. You hug them tighter.

“If we need anything, I’ll be right here in us to help us remember, or think about, or give us the strength to do whatever we need this body to do,” Humphrey says as you break the hug.

You open your eyes. You feel Humphrey’s memories filling in the gaps of your own, and you feel yours being shared with Humphrey. You know what they know, and vice versa.

(Humphrey has some amount of knowledge of Slime Culture, as well as limited knowledge of the world outside this island. Consider the queen and Humphrey’s minds one and the same when making suggestions.) (Your new core is still broken, but with this fusion it is Reinforced. You now have greater control over your body, and have learned Basic Shapeshifting! You can adjust some of your physical features and redistribute mass to some small degree, tho you will always return to a neutral form when no longer concentrating.)

You also take a moment to luxuriate in the increased size of your tail. You’re not sure why, but something about it makes you feel more attractive. Probably just a slime thing, Soot doesn’t seem affected.

“Well, you’re back. Doc is working on the medicine,” Soot crosses their arms, avoiding your gaze, “You did your part, so you have my thanks. I’ll help you get past the mushrooms.”

“How’s Bramble? Is she gonna be ok?”

“She’s stable. Doc is working on the medicine now. She’s strong, I th-, I know she’ll pull through. She has to.” They turn to leave the room, “C’mon, we better get going.”

Oh oh! Flint, Zima Vulcan, the Nearls, Red n Ethan?

(Bonus Conviction?)

Flint: Pure lean muscle, absolutely shredded. She's light and quick as hell on her feet, so she's not going to have much bodyfat, just enough to keep her fueled, but not enough to slow her down in any way, same goes for muscle. Flint hits hard and quick, but the insane speed means she sacrifices some power, since she can't pack on as much muscle. Her arms are just going to be like tightly wrapped rope, pure lean muscle that feels like steel. She's got the most shredded abs of all the operators. Though she also has a huge sweet tooth and is almost always snacking on something light cause of her crazy fast metabolism.

Zima: Zima is strong as hell, but doesn't have a single showy muscle. She trains under Nearl, so as she gets older she's going to wind up with a very similar build. Right now she's quite lean with healthy layers of fat building, since she's likely going to be bulking. But as she gets older she's going to keep bulking and wind up even more jacked than Nearl. Her proudest muscles will always be her arms and shoulders.

Vulcan: She's a blacksmith, so that means just the most wonderfully burly arms ever, she puts 90% of the other operators to shame with her godlike arma. She's also a defender, so that means thick legs to keep her planted and sturdy. But her arms and shoulders are the true highlight, they are just stunning. She's got a good amount of fat, would have more if she remembered to eat more often, but it means she's far from slim or having a flat stomach and that's a good thing! Long hours working means she needs lots of energy, so she's not going to have visible abs or a flat stomach, but if you put a hand on her stomach it's gonna be really damn firm.

Maria: She's a true jock. Her muscles are a little more showy than practical, which means her stomach is gonna be a bit more trim with visible able. She has awesome shoulders, arms, back, and legs. She's built more towards being a traditional defender, so her legs are especially strong, to keep her planted. Maria is action star buff, but as she goes to RI, she's going to put on a bit of fat because Nearl will tell her she needs to eat more.

Zofia: Zofia is least buff Nearl. She's got a some good curves to her, and definitely carry's a good amount of fat because she's a very intense trainer and would know exactly what her optimal body ratio's would need to be. Her main weapon is a whip, which means optimally keeping people at a distance. She's incredibly coordinated and thus has just amazing legs since fighting with a whip is kind of like a dance. Her arms and shoulders are going to be more slim, gearing towards endurance and control as opposed to power. Her most proud of areas are definitely her legs and butt, which as we all know is amazing.

Red: She's an assassin and her build reflects that. She stays as compact as possible, packing as much lean muscle onto her frame as possible, while avoiding bulking. Her primary weapons are daggers, both for throwing and melee. She's going to have great muscles all around, with very well defined forearms and abs. Though her legs deserve special note too, with her ability to just walk on walls and ceilings, she would need excellent core strength and leg strength to keep her steady against gravity.

Ethan: (I had to look him up just for this so might be a little off) He's going to be super wiry, not much muscle on him at all, apart from his legs. He's all about hit and run so he needs to be light on his feet as possible. He'd have decent core strength from using his tail so much, which would require great hip flexibility and strength. His strength really comes from his arts/tail. He's a scrawny lil guy but he's also a good boi and we love him.

As for Conviction, I don't really know how to do them? Since they apparently have no set physical form. What we see in game is a child? So can't really say much there. Is a babey.

I know I skipped Margaret, but I'll be doing her with my other fave defenders soon.

ok and I GET the concept of attachments leading to vulnerability and therefore weakness but to impose that on a CHILD who so desperately needs a family, someone he could bond with, its honestly tragic. and since qui gon isnt there to do it anymore it falls on obi wan, whos basically a kid himself, whos dealt with rejection his whole life, and how can you expect him to provide anything, much less mentor a padawan?? idk i just have so many FEELINGS abt this and can’t put it into proper words lol

okay you know what i think that’s on qui gon because why!!! would you make the decision to rip a child away from his home like that so quickly!!! i get that they were making a movie and thus needed to speed things along for pacing reasons but COME ONNNNN

i feel like if it wasn’t restricted for movie reasons it would have gone down very differently. difference being: hey, maybe we don’t rip anakin away from his mom and leave not only his mom still in slavery but also punt a tiny child directly into a warzone.

so assuming qui gon decides not to take anakin with him (at that moment in time because anakin is still going to be heading to the order just in a more meticulous fashion) right after meeting the skywalkers on tattooine, he still needs to get off planet. so he does the whole race thing yadda yadda he gets the engine and they take off

so here’s where it diverges: anakin stays on tattooine and never goes to naboo.

(bro this got so long i had to put it under a cut omfg)

but cindy!! you might say, leaving anakin on tattoine??? stuck in slavery??? how could you!!!

YES, but this is a temporary thing, just stay with me for a second

padme disagrees but relents because qui gon says he’ll come back for the boy when he’s not, you know, neck deep in the middle of tense wartime negotiations that could trigger a full scale onslaught at any moment. that’s no place to bring a small child into no matter how powerful in the force he is.

qui gon heads back to the council, gives his report, and then mentions anakin. mentions his fuckin. midichlorian count. which is still so ridiculous to me oh my god the midichlorian is the powerhouse of the force i GUESS

anyways

the council still disapproves, but qui gon makes the case that even if they don’t believe him about the chosen one thing it’s still dangerous to leave such a powerful force user out there untrained and vulnerable to the stresses and traumas of slavery. what if he turns to the dark side??? he’ll have ample reasons to if he’s stuck there, and the amount of destruction he could unleash by being untrained and powerful is unspeakable!! qui gon, being the master diplomat he is, even if he is constantly butting heads with the council, could probably convince them of the importance of at least meeting the child. hell, it’s not as if they haven’t broken people free from slavery before it’s honestly jedi basic training at this point

so the council agrees on the condition that qui gon is not allowed to personally mentor the boy because as it stands now he’s too close to the situation, too eager which honestly??? might have been a good chunk of the reason why the council was so against it in the first place. qui gon pushed for it too hard and for no real solid reason. and for fuck’s sake qui gon your padawan is right there

obi wan, awkwardly shuffling on his feet like..... yeah i’m here too master

imagine how gutting it must be to hear that your master wants to get rid of you for the newer, younger model. like at this point obi wan is so used to this shit. abandonment? by qui gon??? it’s more likely than you think,

and obi wan’s ALLL ready to be like “yeah okay. i’ll just. go over here then i guess. fuck me for thinking that you respected me as a person or anything lmao right”

and qui gon’s just “ah fuck. i can’t believe i’ve done this”

anyways hand waves qui gon explaining his reasoning to obi wan and saying that he just wants to ensure that the boy gets the training he needs and obi wan understanding but asking if he really thinks he’s ready to be a knight genuinely or if he’s just saying that to get him out of the way and wow that thought actually hurt a bit lol!!! no problem though qui gon whatever you want haha i’ll just... be in pain. over here. and qui gon being like, “honestly obi wan the only reason you’re not actually knighted is because i cherish your companionship and i don’t want to let you go” because ANAKIN ISN’T THE ONLY ONE WITH ATTACHMENT ISSUES CASE IN POINT: MY MANS JINN

let’s be honest obi wan could’ve been knighted ages ago. the only reason he hasn’t been is because the master dictates when that step should be taken and qui gon wasn’t ready to let his surrogate son go.

anyways RECONCILIATION WHOO kicks that insecurity off of obi wan’s already weary shoulders because that gnarly bit of tension could’ve been avoided so easily with just a simple conversation!! wow!!! communication can do wondrous things who! would! have! known!!!!!

they get to naboo. how do they beat the trade federation without anakin? the force works in mysterious ways alright it happens they win boom.

now, onto qui gon. in this au qui gon lives because of that healthy bit of communication up there that went down. see that conversation? where they affirm how important they (qui gon and obi wan) are to each other? and how that bond was repaired and confirmed between their leaving coruscant and fighting maul on naboo and thus their harmonious fighting wasn’t impaired by that underlying resentment and betrayal and tension??? TELLING YOUR KIDS THAT YOU LOVE AND RESPECT THEM CAN DO AMAZING THINGS WITH YOUR ABILITY TO COORDINATE WITH THEM IN THE FIELD IMAGINE THAT

so they fight maul and maul gets turned into maul 1 and maul 2 and qui gon almost gets got but is saved just in time by his padawan who is!! right there with him!!! because qui gon WAITS 5 SECONDS FOR HIM TO CATCH UP so they can F I G H T T O G E T H E R. qui gon has a permanent limp and an ache in his spine that never really goes away but he’s ALIVE TO SEE THE NEXT SUNRISE BABEY

celebrations happen. and the most important bit of all here: palpatine never meets anakin on naboo.

why would he? anakin’s not fuckin there mate!!! maul wouldn’t even know anything about anakin because qui gon never bothered to take him with them to coruscant and maul was chasing the delegation from naboo, not going hunting for babies in the tatooinian sands

/kicks the palpatine was anakin’s experimental force daddy theory to the curb because. i don’t like it that’s why. suck it dickpatine.

ANAKIN NEVER MEETS PALPATINE!! ripples in the fucking pond babey

qui gon and obi wan ask a boon of padme, that boon being “hey can you give us truly disgusting amounts of money so we can go free those delightful people we had to leave behind on tatooine due to the fact that we were on a time crunch and also ripping people away from a familiar environment without a stable plan of action to provide them a better quality of life is actually called, as the professionals say, a dick move.”

and padme’s like “um fuck yeah here’s some cash let me know how this goes and give anakin and shmi my love”

SO OFF THEY GO TO TATOOINE TO FREE THE SKYWALKERS. shmi tags along to the temple because why wouldn’t she. she wants to see where her son is going to be going. she also pesters qui gon and obi wan constantly about the order and its philosophies and etc. etc. and subsequently gets a crash course in jedi doctrine that anakin also gets to sit in on and you know, educate himself on.

“we want you to know that being a jedi is a choice. being a jedi is a religion unto itself.” they say

“but it’s a set of philosophies that are meant to at its core help others live happy and free lives?” anakin (and shmi) ask

“that’s a very very very large generalization but i guess for the purposes of this conversation that could be seen as true. from a certain point of view,” they respond. qui gon then lets obi wan loose on his musings about the code because the code is simple, and complex in its simplicity, and how the beliefs of the jedi should be taken very seriously because it reflects their connection to the force and by extension the world around them etc. etc.

anakin makes it to the temple. anakin knows (at least a little) what it means to be a jedi. it’s not all light sabers and noble battles and fighting the good fight. it’s about sacrifice and humility and nobility and above all kindness and empathy and loving all things, great and small, and not letting your personal hatreds cloud your judgement even if it takes all your strength to do so

and most importantly to anakin: no attachments.

and that’s what anakin struggles with the most. that never changes. but this time shmi is there to explain it to him, and coming from shmi, the most important person in the world, makes it stick

“it doesn’t mean you love me less,” shmi explains. “it just means you don’t love everyone else less because you love me. it means not loving me to the exclusion of all else. it means love, but for everyone. for everything.”

and then the two jedi reaffirm that it’s a choice. it’s always about choice. you can’t be a jedi without choosing to be one, it’s not something that can be forced. either you believe in the lifestyle, or you don’t. simple as that.

“can i leave if i want to” anakin asks.

“yes. of course you can, any time.” qui gon responds.

“not sure why you would want to though, being a jedi is kind of super cool” obi wan adds, with a wink.

but anakin isn’t a jedi yet. he’s not even an initiate. he doesn’t want to leave his mom, not until he knows she’s safe. he wants to be a jedi he burns with the need to be a jedi, but he’s not sure if he can be a jedi. not the way that was explained to him anyways. but that’s okay because he has the time to decide!!! there are no sith lords breathing down his neck!!! he has two (2) in the flesh examples of what jedi can do, what jedi are, what they can accomplish in the world!!! most of all he has his mother there, supporting him either way!!!

maybe he does go into the order. maybe he does ultimately choose that life for himself. maybe he does manage to untangle himself from the snarls of attachment and apply himself wholeheartedly to the ways of the jedi. he might even succeed this time since palpatine has no fucking CLUE anakin’s even there!!! he’s not nine years old and freshly braided and attached at the hip to a mourning brand new knight, he’s nine years old and trying to figure out how the fuck you levitate off the ground with your legs crossed under you while his crechemates balance things onto his nose!!!

and you know what!! maybe he chooses to leave the order because it’s not for him, but this time he’s got enough stability in his life, in the way that he manages and examines his feelings, that he’s not a threat to himself and those he loves. maybe he becomes a mechanic and lives a nice, simple life with his aging mother and becomes penpals with a pretty girl from naboo. WHO KNOWWWSSS

and that’s important for anakin: knowing that it’s always a choice always his choice and that he never has to have anyone tell him who he can and cannot be because he is his own master now he has full autonomy and the jedi cannot and will not take that away from him

hotness scale: extremely tall (over a foot taller than me! this is Very Important to the scale) and he seems to be a mere thread’s width away from Unhinged at all times, which i love. i also think it’s very sexy of him to still have such a monstrous way about himself (what with the roaring and the growling) 20something years post-curse.... makes me wonder very vividly if such energies carry to the b*droom........ *clears throat* 10/10

quality of character scale: it eternally amuses me that beast seems to learn almost Nothing over the course of this trilogy. he’s literally pro-isle the ENTIRE time jsjdndjdjd..... not great considering it puts him directly at odds with his son (and, like, with social progress) but he Does seem to act the way he does with the kingdom’s safety in mind! plus when he’s not accidentally supporting magical fascism he’s super dorky. i love his goofy dance moves 7.5/10

hotness scale: i hate his party city clown wig but i’m a total sucker for guys in makeup (EVEN THOUGH A DECENT SHADE OF LIPSTICK WOULD HAVE BROUGHT HIS ENSEMBLE TOGETHER. quality of character scale: he literally sings a song about how cool he thinks it is that he’s a shitty dad............ but he DOES come through when his kid needs him, so that’s nice i guess. i would have liked to see more of him but i’ll settle for reading and writing intricate fan works that delve into a hypothetical personality for him that’s mainly conjecture 7.25/10

hotness scale: i wish i had nicer things to say about this man. he just....... bears so little resemblance to the original jafar it makes me :( maybe if he was more gangly, or if he carried himself w the same potent gay energy that og jafar has? itd also help it he wasnt a racist caricature. 4.5/10

quality of character scale: again, very much a racist caricature. jafar doesnt steal!!! why would This be what he chose to do with himself! but he does seem to be, perhaps, the least bad of the core four’s parents, which counts for something i suppose. 3/10

quality of character scale: he just loves his daughter and wants to make sure she’s getting what’s hers!!!!! his dynamic with celia makes me really happy they seem so fun! though i guess you could argue it sucks that he’d send his darling babey dohter to do errands for big mean scary hades considering that Everyone on the isle seems to quake at the sight of him. but im sure facilier only does that to ensure that celia can hold her own! 8/10

quality of character scale: he seems to be SO kind and sweet to his baby sons..... holding their little hands and such!!! and judging by how nervous the kids are i’d imagine it was primarily smee’s idea for them to go to auradon. extremely noble sacrifice for their benefit even though he’ll miss them 10/10!!!!!

hotness scale: every time i look at this man i think of this post. he’s the perfect amount of frumpy for my tastes and his voice is so unique!!!!! i’d let his z-band malfunction so he could *** ** ***** * ******* **** 9/10

quality of character scale: really really cares about his kids and wants them to be safe!! he raises his voice once which im not a huge fan of but i suppose it was justified given the circumstances. also that shot of him goofing about with d*le in the end scene shows remarkable capacity for forgiveness after decades of trauma and discrimination! what a guy. 9/10

quality of character scale: obviously he grows as the series progresses but i feel like jack is Always in the way of troy getting what he wants, which sucks. i like that he’s kinda goofy on his off hours with his family exactly as much as i Hate how much he yells when hes on the job. i do wish we lived in the timeline where he and miss darbus actually had that duet about their disagreements, though. 5/10

hotness scale: listen, i’m a simple guy. i see a basic-looking man pursuing age gap romance in the midst of a mid-life crisis, i support him unconditionally. also i am just Really vibing with that oversized denim shirt on him!!! there’s an egregious amount of arm hair poking out that just works. good for him! and this is a small moment but i’m very flustered over his natural Touchy Feely instinct after wen pokes out his eye... however: man has no eyebrows. 8.5/10

quality of character scale: i’m not a child of divorce so i don’t know how this stuff works, but i feel like he springs a lot of major decisions on wen? not ideal. on the other hand, we DO stan that he has sydney move in before they’re married. this is not a christian home!!!! 6/10

total score: 14.5/20 probably my favorite lemonade mouth dad, but mostly because he’s like the only one paid any attention by the narrative

hotness scale: men really have beautifully sculpted noses and we just let them, huh. i’m definitely overusing the word Handsome in this list, but in this case? i’m justified. mr banjaree’s beard suits him SO well and his hair looks so soft...... and we love the implicit cleanliness of a man who wears socks in the house! 8/10

quality of character scale: i love that even when he doesn’t remember the kids he still maintains a little dadly rapport with them? the instincts...... it’s also incredibly good of him to relive his decision to give up his magic without hesitation once he realizes the severity of the situation :’0 10/10

hotness scale: handsome....... mr morris makes me feel simultaneously like a sapiosexual AND a morosexual because although he completed enough schooling to become a dentist, he also threw it away for a writing career like an absolute champ. also i find it unbelievably charming how Along For The Ride he is about the idea of being kidnapped. a man after my own heart 8.25/10

quality of character scale: this is a tricky one...... neil DOES show active concern for his daughter’s safety when push comes to shove, but he also has my least favorite type of redemption arc: “you THOUGHT i was neglecting you, but actually i was thinking about you the whole time and just never expressed it! we good?” so like. bleh. but he’s pretty mild mannered which i deeply appreciate in a man! 6.5/10

hotness scale: prime dad bod, very believable for his line of work. also he has such a Gentle Way about himself when he’s around princesses....... i love all the hand holding when he’s escorting rosie. absolutely my type 8.75/10

quality of character scale: gosh.... where do i even BEGIN!!! his whole dynamic with carter is so ideal... i was apprehensive at first because his job would require him to be Absent a lot of the time, but upon reflection it’s clear that he’s raised carter well enough that he can totally trust her to be on her own, and also she’s only sad to see him go because she sincerely enjoys his company. everything about his profession is so noble and i love the way he can carry himself as casually or as politely as a given situation calls for. worst thing he does is say “i might have to stop calling you ‘pal’” because his daughter is wearing a pretty dress. i wish he was my dad but i’ll settle for him being my husband 9.75/10

quality of character scale: ok i know the whole point of this movie is Boys Bad but i hate men who are loud and i hate dads who get Weird about the inherent femininity of their daughters. when he calls zoey “sport” and then cringes like he’s made a mistake? dumb and unnecessary. HOWEVER all of his efforts to bond with zoey are really really sincere. like when he fixes her music box? that has NOTHING to do with the app he just Does It!!!! the movey mightve rubbed off on me a little too much but there are multiple ways to show love and just bc im not used to his way doesnt mean it has no worth! 6/10

quality of character scale: it’s nice that he goes to such a Public and Corporate effort to connect to his stepdaughter! even if it’s in a way that financially benefits him, it’s pretty clear that he cares about this family and wants to do right by them. nothing exceptional, though 7/10

hotness scale: THIS. this idea takes me in two Very Different Places. allow me to elaborate.

firstly, this ask already presupposes that minerva will, in fact, move out of duck’s apartment eventually. which, honestly....idk if she will. like, i have an idea if she might, but i think minerva just Cannot live by herself anymore. spending so many years surrounded by absolutely no one can rlly get to a gal, yknow? and i think it’ll take a lot more than a few months on earth to get rid of that sort of trauma. so, wherever minerva goes, she has to be near friends. or anybody, really, she makes friends real easy. which is why i think, for my First Thot, sheeeeeeeeeeeee

moves into amnesty lodge!!! bc obviously there’s gotta be some vacancies there (especially after they give s***n the boot bc Fuck That Guy) with all the moving around of sylphs after The End (which im still hoping ends w sylvain giving exiles the opportunity to move back if they do so choose, or to cross between worlds whenever). and mama isn’t gonna say no to an eager set of hands (and biceps and muscles and core strength) to help rebuild shit around the lodge. plus, everyone sort of ends up hanging out there anyway, so minerva will always be around loved ones! and, if she’s feeling particularly lonely, she isn’t too far away from duck and leo’s apartment complex for some good ol Chosen Squad Hangs.

but, of course, im Gay and Have Ideas so that isn’t my only Thot for this (but this one should be obvious so):

minerva moves in w mack. yeah, yeah. i said it. Fight Me. Macknerva Canon, Babey!!!

if times fell under any other circumstances, and things were less Apocalypse and more Casual, mack would’ve taken foreeeever to ask minerva to move in w her. she would’ve thought it over for a while, overthink it too many nights laying in bed alone, asked Every Single Willing Party for their opinion before finally popping the question during some romantic movie night.

but half a mountain nearly crushed the whole town and alien abominations almost Killed The World, so suffice to say only a few short moments after the battle ended and everyone reunited (mack throwing herself into minerva’s arms and vowing to never let go until she promised she was done w the hero business) mack immediately blurted out “can you live with me im very traumatized and love you a lot”.

of course, minerva Does Wanna, and so they move in the few things minerva collected in her few months staying w duck and piles it all into the house of Overflowing Junk that mack has accrued from several Years of living in kepler. they have to buy a bigger bed bc minerva is just Too Tall to be staying in macks little full-sized bed every night, and mack puts minerva’s Big Sword That I Forget The Actual Name Of on display over the mantle like some sort of prized buck. they’re very domestic and happy, despite only dating for A Little While.

Crown likes Gank a lot! They only met like, once but they rlly got along. She feels a bit bad for them bc they seemed to think she was rlly nice and instead of considering she Might genuinely be nice she jumped to “oh shit the bar is fucking underground for this guy” skvjfnksjfvn. So she’s surprisingly attached. She wants them to have an actual friend bc it seems like they need it

I’m headed straight for the castle

Currently, no. She has a lot of dangerous shit to do and is too caught up on being A Free Spirit That Actually Gets To See The World to like,, consider settling down. And she hasn’t given any thought to what life she’ll have after her goals have been fulfilled.

But I’ve actually given some thought to this and I think she wants to make a family one day. Idk if it’ll include children (probably adopting older “problem” children tbh) or a spouse but she definitely wants to settle down with at least one pet

Going for Love since I talked about Gank already. He bedrudgingly admires how cunning and People Smart Love can be. Absolutely hates how much of a Bastard he is and how hot he is

Why is your character’s lowest stat their lowest (the in-character reason, not “because there’s no reason for a wizard to have 16 strength, duh”)?

Both int and wis are at a -2!

Wisdom: he wasn’t uh. raised in a way where he rlly got to learn the ways of people’s minds, or do anything but repress his own feelings. and once he was out on his own he was so focused on being a reckless fool he never even tried to change that

Intelligence: He has big adhd and always had a hard time learning. Instead of being supported he was yelled at and punished for stupidity. He retaliated by refusing to keep trying. So now he’s dumb

I have an entire playlist for him please look at it I worked so hard on it-
