Okay soo I can't exactly help myself bcuz I wanna info dump so badly abt my AU again because I just am so fixated on it and I love coming up with ideas for it sjdjJSJ please excuse me, long post with long tags because I am opening the floodgates rn
I just can't stop thinking abt it and putting more story and details into it y'know y'know? It's my guilty pleasure
(I kinda changed some things in it *cough* and am still changing stuff)
---
Kyle wasn't really scared but was moreso interested in eteled when first meeting him, and of course being the little kid he is, he kinda messed with the guy a whole lot, when eteled doesn't like most kids all too much, (except for his bro and cousins, and later on Sam) and would ask Kyle to leave him alone, eventually after enough of being swung around in the air, being poked and all around harassed for an unspecified amount of time, eteled blew up at the guy to just leave him alone for good, he does have the axe in this scenario but it's for defense against being picked up again with that stupid ass Wii remote (although he isn't sure if it would work) and also to kinda get the point across to Kyle, so he's basically swinging his arms around a lot as he's yelling, and to sum it up quickly, pretty much what happens is that Kyle's Mii comes up behind eteled on accident, following it's programmed walk cycle and that just scares the shit out of him, causing him to swing his axe to fight back, and you can kinda guess how that goes
^ To add, the thing with eteled being deleted, and then banning Kyle temporarily from the Mii Channel did happen before all this, and Nathan was present during eteled's last straw being ripped from him, but he had less involvement in what pissed the guy off, and basically was invited over by Kyle, nonetheless he still witnessed the accident
eteled feels horrible for his actions, even though what had happened was entirely an accident, he's angry with himself, so he doesn't blame the kid one bit when Kyle decides that he has had enough mental damage and just throws the Wii in the closet, and yes Austin definitely knows about what happened, and he knows Kyle, so you can deduce from that how pissed Austin is, not only because of the fact that a poor kid has probably been traumatized, but it was his damn nephew
Kyle, some years later, does go back to check on eteled, because he's curious even though he doesn't wanna be, and is terrified, but he doesn't put anything on his computer because he is not about to have some scary ass Mii haunt his computer when he can just keep him in the Wii and throw it back in the closet or even in the trash if needed, so he reluctantly sets the Wii back up, not even sure if it works or survived the throw from all those years ago, almost hoping it didn't, but it does work and it turns on, and after some thinking and searching for the Mii, Kyle finds eteled, and they talk, they explain some things like their sides of the story without coming off as uncaring, and etc, and eteled allows Kyle to delete him to show him what happens to him and other Miis and you get the idea (eteled has pretty good control over the camera and other system stuff so it's not hard for him to just take it in there with him)
^Kyle notices that eteled looks a tad different than what he remembers, he certainly doesn't remember the guy looking kinda roughened up and having some marks on his face, which unbeknownst to Kyle, is a hint that there's another sentient being in this Wii but he doesn't catch onto it at this time
It's after the original events that happened with eteled and Kyle's Mii, that eteled starts learning more and more things about his digital body and the things he can effect inside the Wii, like he never realized how disturbing some of his facial expressions could be, especially when upset, so he figured that's why people have reacted the way they did when seeing him make certain faces, and he eventually learns to use this to his advantage, which he tries on Austin sometimes to get him to go away, and later coming into play when he feels the Wii turn back on after some time, and sees some random girl instead of the usual face he expected to see again
Sam, finally getting her hands on the console she wanted, is excited to get on the Wii, she discovers eteled, and is understandably confused at first, eteled wants nothing to do with her and any other kids, period, but he might as well try to scare her away if he has to, so it kinda turns into a scenario where he plays completely normal at first like just some random left over Mii, but then starts to mimick her movements and looks where she moves, to try to freak her out but she just thinks it's cool, Sam is into horror and all sorts of ghost type material, and the possibility of AI life, so it's more fascinating than anything, and when eteled finally drops the smile in a mix of frustration and being unamused, he just plainly goes "Boo" as a last resort, and Sam watches with her eyes lighting up like "Whoa, oh damn you guys talk?", with eteled staring and thinking to himself 'wth is wrong with this kid', he continues to try and push her away, even trying to freak her out with glitches or spooky faces but none of it works, Sam like "Omg that's so cool that you can do all that, you're a funny little guy" and wants to learn more about him and claim him as her new friend officially
^And as time goes on he softens up to her because she's very nice and caring, and he begins viewing her as someone he needs to protect as well, almost like a dad, while simultaneously seeing her as a friend, and even a mother figure in some ways
The situation with Will was a lot more tame cause nobody got hurt, except for eteled being deleted again *cough*, that and if you wanna also count the mental spook Will got when trying to fuck with Sam's Wii, no there was no axe, eteled pretty much crawled back out of The Hallway in pain, and scared the crap out of Will with his spoopy Mii faces, and that was enough for the kid to be like "Oh hell no" and then leave back out the window he came through (mf came through the window I still can't take that seriously in the canon story jsdjJSJ)
^Will got hit with the emo white man jumpscare
Oh, and the main reason Henry died was because of Austin, aka the guy was super pissed off and made sure that he would get his revenge by taking the guy down with him, hopefully causing him to be stuck in the same situation Austin is in by being a spirit confined to a digital body, that way he can continue to make him pay, even if he couldn't guarantee it, still worth getting back at Henry
^Haven't figured out yet how he would do this and if I should change how Henry exactly died but yeah that's pretty much what happened, also yes Todd was at the very least present during the aftermath of Austin's murder, but being the boss and with the amount of pressure Henry was under, it was kept a secret, especially for the console sales blah blah blah, and honestly Todd had a little more respect for Austin and his death, whereas he had much less for Mike when he tried telling the boss about what happened, along with the fact that Mike had to see that whole mess, and even less respect for Henry since he just showed his entire death to the whole workspace, which understandably made nothing much better and made Mike feel horrible, yeah Jonathan's not too happy either and you can guess why
I honestly don't know how Kyle manages to get Sam's contact info in canon, maybe I forgor but I just ?? But we'll go with it, I was thinking for this AU that maybe Jonathan had some sort of yard sale or something, trying to get rid of a bunch of old stuff him and Kyle don't use or don't need, or items that have memories attached to them that he no longer wants to hang around, and he gets Kyle's Wii cause he assumes he no longer wants the old thing, considering he now has another Wii and a Wii U amongst other consoles, and Kyle finds out later on, after it's already been sold to a mother and her daughter who saw the Wii and begged her mother to get it, needless to say, Kyle isn't happy, idk but I guess he could somehow get names and info from that but yeah, anyway, he contacts Sam, he tells the story, from his view, which is portraying eteled as some reckless or anger filled monster, and Sam doesn't believe it or see it, Kyle says he wants the Wii but doesn't say why, cause he knows she'll decline, but she declines anyway because she finds Kyle to be untrustworthy and tells him that "Well, not my problem that you decided to give your console away, it's mine now, I used part of my money to pay for it, and I honestly don't feel that I can trust your story right now" before eventually blocking him
^And then we know how that goes because she later wants them to talk and all that jazz
Sam had made her own Mii in the Wii so she could not only play as herself, but so it could possibly be comforting for her friend, especially when she had to leave like going somewhere or needing to go to school
^eteled kinda finds the other Miis to be uncanny at times but wouldn't admit it, and he lowkey feels panic go through him when he sees Kyle's old Mii still sometimes popping up and around whenever eteled goes and plays some games in Wii Sports, as if it's messing with him
And ah yes the moment of truth when Kyle is invited over to talk with eteled, and it goes how you'd expect it to, eteled tries to explain himself again, Kyle stands his ground, a fight ensues, eteled starts getting pissed and then Austin shows up, so the whole situation is almost exactly the same, Austin wants to get his ultimate revenge, not caring if the Wii will die because of it, and bam, it goes as planned, except for the fact that Sam manages to save the Wii from permanent damage, (idk if I want it to still be the ice method or maybe another way but she gets the job done) and you can understand the shock (no pun intended) when eteled and Austin are kinda in there just waiting to fade away and nothing happens at all, like "Uhhhh.. we're still here?"
^Also it's because of this event that not only does eteled lose some bits of his memory either permanently or for a long while, he also gets pretty corrupted, you don't see it when he's just chilling normally, but it shows whenever he gets really scared, and only becomes worse the worse his fear is, like fight or flight levels is a full on corruption mess, messy textures, (often) twitchy movement, along with a stuttery/distorted voice and all, so it's why his SF state is kinda all over the place if you know what he looks like in it, he's usually pretty vulnerable and hides away when like this but there's times when he can get aggressive and almost zombie like if he's too deep into it so ya never know, yes he has chased Austin before while like this which is funny but I mean it makes sense, imagine the person you're stuck with just starts acting weird in the dark ass space and starts running around and even chasing you, not even mentioning that they were your murderer, absolute nightmare for the big guy, it's like having a raccoon raid your home, imagine exacting your revenge on someone and because of that they have random chances to just become much more scary and maybe even more powerful than you are
^And yes the corruption is painful so eteled is just in more pain than what's normal for him, and it is possible for him to just fuckin lose his eyes or parts of himself while corrupted cause the code just goes absolutely bonkers during this form, he usually doesn't carry his axe with him if he's in ultimate locked on target mode, but sometimes he will and that is just ten times more dangerous for Austin, but it's not often at all cause he mostly carries it when he's more clear headed or scared and is using it for defense
After lots and lots of time, after the events of the Wii being saved, and Sam getting to know Austin, Kyle and Nathan a bit better, she tries to at the very least have everyone make peace with each other and get along, especially eteled and Austin, even though she is still unaware of their past (not for long), but it does start working, Sam, Nat and Kyle all start forming a friend group, and the two Miis, while struggling, do start getting sorta better, and even hang out sometimes on their own, when they feel comfortable enough to do so, they got some sort of connection going on there that they themselves can't even understand, they usually play sports together when the other three are out or are doing some form of work
^They technically knew each other longer than they originally thought since they were around each other and even talked a little as young kids, but even they forgot most details of that and when they switched schools they quickly became strangers, so yeah, childhood friends to strangers to coworkers to enemies to whatever the hell they are now
^Austin is gay as hell so yes the flirting never stayed in the days that he worked in the office, because after many, maaany years in the Wii, after getting along pretty well and having some sort of friendship grow between them, Austin of course starts doing it subtly again, not even sure why he's doing it himself, and eteled still doesn't understand or pick up on any of it, feeling like the guy is trying to gaslight him or some shit "Nah uh I know what you're up to, I've been through that same song and dance many times before"
Will and Sam make up and become pretty cool hang out buddies, Sam even reintroduces eteled and Will, by request of Will, cause he wants to talk and apologize for messing with the guy, and in turn eteled apologies for scaring him, but Will, now that he's older and looks back on it with more of a laugh, he actually thought it was pretty cool, that fact that the guy could pretty much just spook people outta the blue, although he was a little creeped out by it even now, overall they're on good terms
Jonathan is obviously torn so he's got the board in his basement and everything, and he works on it all the time, but each day he just grows more and more frustrated, not understanding why some of the evidence isn't making much sense, he knows Henry is guilty but some things aren't lining up perfectly or are just missing
Mike and Henry were literally close besties for years, worked by each other's sides, and even invited each other to their apartments, sometimes Henry would stick around and chill at his bestie's place for a few days, although Henry lives alone and usually likes it that way so it's not all the time, one big part being because of noise since he's learned to become very sensitive to it, he jumps and shivers at the sound of footsteps and creaking floors, hell even his own sometimes scare him, but Mike and him are very close, and have been through a lot together
I haven't figured everything out yet but somehow someway Mike finds out about Sam, and how she wants him to come over after hearing that he's eteled's old buddy, and when he comes over he learns everything, and him and eteled/Henry have a moment of being reunited and knowing that the other is okay, or at least kinda okay, Sam knows that Mike is trustworthy and obviously knows eteled from a different and much wider perspective than she does, so she allows him to come over and for the guys to talk and just update each other on things, as weird as it may look with some grown man talking to a little figure on a television, she can tell that they're happy to see one another again, they did talk about what had happened, about Austin's death, without Sam around, even though she knows everything already at this point and had already talked to Kyle, Austin, Nat and especially eteled about it, and while the news did definitely hit Mike straight in the gut, he also knew that it wasn't something Henry had planned or did without some sort of influence, he just felt it, not that it made it any better, but it had been years, no point in getting angry, he kinda figured Henry had something to do with it, but knew that it wasn't just that alone, and was too scared to say anything much sooner, so he sorta sympathizes with him, knowing they were both pushed beyond limits from their job and especially their boss, and that they're both in the wrong, although still holding Henry accountable for doing what he did, especially to Jonathan's brother, he wasn't gonna let him go off easy on that, but he doesn't hate Henry, and it shocks eteled that Mike even still cares about him after everything the guy went through during those times, but he appreciates it, and it seems like they still have a friendship going on
Jonathan is also informed about his brother, but this is done at a different time, later on after Mike and eteled reunited because Sam knew that this was gonna be a whole lot harder, Jonathan was Austin's brother, so it's needless to say how heavy this was gonna be, unbeknownst to Sam that Jonathan was already trying to get all the evidence to finally prove Henry guilty, even though the guy was dead and gone, at least as far as he knew, she also knew that this was gonna be hard for Austin and Kyle, who would both be present when Jonathan would come over, Sam debates whether she should even say anything and potentially reopen an old wound, but she goes ahead and only informs him about Austin, not eteled because she fears how Jonathan will react, especially if he connects the dots and realizes it's Henry
eteled is the only damn soul who knows exactly, in detail, what had happened after Austin's death and how he was talked down to and also threatened into keeping it on the down low, he and Mike are also the only ones who know just how bad they've been treated and how worse it can really get, but eteled hasn't told anybody, not a single person about any of it, other than when him and Mike used to comfort each other and talk about work issues, back when eteled was alive, he just tells no one now, not even when explaining himself and the past and what had happened between him and Austin, he just takes the full blame, half because of heavy guilt and the other half because he's terrified, even though the guy is miles away from that work building, is literally dead, is nowhere near his boss, his boss not even thinking about him anymore most likely, he still had that fear driven into him that if he said something that he'd be in trouble or that something terrible would happen, even though he's in a Wii and nobody can or would really do anything to him besides Austin, he still fears people in his past life, he also wouldn't wanna bring up all of the hidden info like "Hey my boss had a part in this" and have it turned down as if he were trying to take away some blame from himself, which he wouldn't be but is scared to come off that way
^Literally nobody would think like that or would treat eteled that way if he brought it up, but the guy thinks they would
A bit of a more light one, eteled and Austin have sort of made a day and night cycle for the Mii Channel, the light is more tame cause it can become blinding normally, and when people are resting or when it's around the time it would be dark outside, judging by the console's clock, then it would get darker and be more comfy
^Not to be confused with when the Channel just goes full on feral mode and gets pitch black dark or starts changing color cause that's usually Austin or eteled fucking with the atmosphere, like eteled causing it to go super dark like in SF sometimes when he's super upset or even "I'm gonna hunt you down" levels of corrupted
Henry had pretty great relationships with his bro and cousins, and he just hopes now that they're all okay, which they are, his cousins, Jane, Faith and Ellie are actively looking into the info and trying to figure out what really happened to their cousin, and his bro I haven't exactly figured out what to do with him yet aside from trying to do the same thing, but maybe being more exhausted and considering moving on cause living in the past is painful for him, and he is just not getting the right leads or ones that are pleasant, and doesn't wanna face the truth that his older sibling could've killed someone
Oh yeah, in current time, with the Wii already being saved years ago, everyone sorta getting along now and everything following after, everyone is pretty much grown up and are adults, so they work and are a tad less energetic as they were as teens, a tad I say because Kyle and Nathan are still hyper guys but they are having fun
Kyle and Nathan are besties to lovers, Will is gay but just hasn't found someone right yet so he vibes around, Sam isn't even sure what she is, she just feels happy on her own and likes spending time with the group she considers a family, Mike isn't sure what he is either but he does like Jonathan a little bit, Austin is bisexual and you can just tell by his energy alone /lh, first person to ever know about him being bi was his mom who is also bi so she just immediately is very accepting of him, and Henry/eteled seriously doesn't understand romantic love or how it works or what it truly looks or feels like, he doesn't even understand general love that much and is trying to learn it, so he doesn't even know what he would really be attracted to, he's just a trans guy sitting in his corner, only people he ever told about him being trans to was his mom when he was trying to understand himself (and she was a great woman so she tried to help him in his journey, while she was present at least) and Sam later on when they both got closer, other people had to kinda figure it out, aside from Austin who never knew for the longest time but was told by eteled later on when they've been in the Wii for a while, so Austin was one of the last ones to know
Mike had taken care of young Kyle from time to time, like when being invited over and/or if Jonathan had to go out real quick to attend to business or grab something
Sam does sometimes take eteled and Austin out to places when she learns to transfer them across devices, she also lets them occasionally mess around in Tomodachi Life whenever she comes back to play on it for memories, it always ends in some funny chaos and it's all around a nice time for everyone, or mostly everyone
eteled tries to play fair but sometimes he lets himself slip and accidentally go god mode again, or will get bored and just do it for fun, and Sam will cross her arms and look at him like "eteled I told you no more cheating" and he'd just roll his eyes saying "I'm sorryyy, it was an accident"
Henry immediately regretted what he did after he murdered Austin, and couldn't think of anything else for days and was miserable over it, even though Austin had seen him multiple times by watching from computer screens, the guy being in such a miserable state, he felt it was an act or something, and it only fueled Austin's anger, he wanted the guy dead, more than just dead, he wanted him to suffer endlessly, just when Austin was finally getting somewhere and was about to prove to the world that he existed and that he was special, it was taken from him, so he's gonna take something from Henry, Austin can't accept that Henry is sorry at all, he doesn't believe he is, and so he brings the guy down with him, making sure that it hurt (they're both assholes your honor)
Also yes Henry's mom was a bit emo, with some punk baddie in the mix, like mother like son
Wow this is long and I didn't even talk about everything else or go into more detail, but yeah I don't wanna make this overwhelmingly long so I'll stop here before I go on all night long because I've already been typing for some hours now
If I think of anything else I might edit this or make a different post about it but yeah thx for listening to me ramble on and on and on
#You are BANNED from the Mii Channel !! Security alert security alert !!#Sam: *holding some creepy ass mf in her hands* this little guy is my friend look at him dance#eteled: listen kid I know you think I'm like cool or whatever but please leave me be#also eteled: Anybody who messes with my friend/daughter dies. no exceptions.#Austin is sentenced to Gay Baby Jail#if you squint you can probably see the inspiration from Security Breach in parts of this#eteled: They all hated me because I was too real for them#eteled running around blindly because his eyes either glitched outta existence or are filled with so much crap that he can't see#that or they like. start melting. again#mf just starts running into things#Kyle was a little bit of trouble for Mike since he'd always go 'Father said I can't do this' 'You shouldn't do that' or 'I can't eat this'#so you can understand his frustration like 'Aye you eat this mac and cheese or not I ain't making ya anything else'#and Kyle admits defeat. looking away 'Okay..'#eteled sees his mom in Sam quite often#I would say what happened to the mom but I am suddenly a gatekeeper and as such am gatekeeping that info until further notice#Henry wants to move away from home the moment he legally can and run with the opportunity but he needs to be there for his little bro#they grow a bit distant especially into adulthood so they go separate ways. and that's another reason Henry lives alone.#Will is like 'Ayoo when you jumpscared me? that was sick man pfft just please don't do it again' *sweats*#Probably the only ones who aren't effected by eteled's/Henry's deathly glares and anger is Sam Mike and sometimes Austin#Sam and Mike are kinda obvious since he never is upset with them to that degree so they get the safe pass#and they were/are usually the ones to help him settle down if they catch him getting really angry#Austin after realizing he was murdered just filled with so much hurt and rage#Austin's revenge arc coming in like 'You're sorry? You're sorry ! hah ! .. you're not sorry. but that's okay. you don't have to be.'#The world hates Henry Morris#okay I think I am done for now I'm gonna go play Splatoon ty for reading I now take my leave#wdy#wii deleted you#au

Four-Year Anniversary
Fandom: Sanders Sides  Characters: Logan, Virgil, Roman, Mentions of Patton Rating: General Relationships: Romantic Analogical Warnings: None that I’m aware of Word count: 3017 Summary: Roman is determined to make Logan and Virgil will enjoy their anniversary, even if they don't seem to be particularly interested in it themselves. Other Notes: Analogical Week Day 1: Debate/Anniversary @analogicalweek
Read on AO3!
Virgil was the first one out of the two to awaken. It was an odd but welcome occurrence, and one he celebrated by shifting over and cuddling into his partner, wrapping one arm over Logan’s waist, and kissing the side of his neck.
There was a soft mumble from the other person. Virgil kissed him again.
“I don’t wake you up when I happen to awaken first,” Logan grumbled. “Besides, I require abnormal amounts of strength today.”
Virgil frowned. “Why?”
“Roman.”
Right.
Today was their anniversary. It was their four-year anniversary (that thought alone had Virgil pulling Logan a little closer) and while to them, that meant… not a lot, to Roman it meant much more than it should, especially considering he wasn’t even in the relationship.
“20 bucks says he’s made the kitchen look like a really fancy restaurant.”
Logan's only response was a quiet groan.
“What things do you think we’ll see the moment we open the bedroom door?” Virgil nudged him. “I’ve got rose petals, a basket of chocolates, and a radio playing the sound of Roman singing love songs.”
“Teddy bears,” Logan yawned. He curled closer into the blankets and Virgil suddenly wished to grab his adorable boyfriend and squish him. He settled to push himself up for a kiss on the cheek. “On Valentine’s Day when Thomas went to CVS Roman kept looking from the giant stuffed bears to us. He probably summoned some.”
“He summoned some yesterday during the “First Time Thomas had Mac n’ Cheese” anniversary. Do you really think he’ll do it again?”
“He used those frilly streamers for a full week for “The First TV” anniversary, “The Steven Universe” anniversary, “The First Time Liking Broccoli” anniversary, and “The First Time Hearing the Evan Hansen Musical” anniversary.”
Virgil’s head flopped onto Logan’s shoulder. “Maybe we will have teddy bears then.”
“I’ll burn whatever stupid bear he gets me.”
“What if it's a unicorn bear?”
Logan’s cheeks tinted a very light pink and he opened both eyes to glare at the man hanging above him. Virgil gave a cheeky grin and Logan rolled his eyes before re-closing them and settling back into the pillows.
“You didn’t answer my question,” Virgil nudged playfully.
“Shut up.”
Virgil flopped back down and pressed his face into the back of Logan’s neck. He had barely been there for a second before he was peppering kisses down the back of it, triggering a loud sigh and then a rolling from Logan’s so they were nearly nose to nose.
“You have a lot of energy today,” Logan remarked.
Virgil reached up and kissed his nose.
“We could say in bed forever,” Virgil told him. “Then we get to avoid Roman.”
“That would hurt Roman’s feelings.” Logan’s expression turned more sheepish. “I’m trying not to do that anymore.”
Virgil’s heart bloomed with love for this man in front of him, who could accept the fact that he had made mistakes and who worked so hard to improve them.
“Still,” Virgil pressed. “We can stall.”
Logan shrugged and Virgil took that as permission to lean forward and fully capture his boyfriend’s lips within his own.
__
Roman was positive he had forgotten something. Something important. Something they needed.
He ran down his checklist.
A path of red and white roses petals, leading from Logan’s bedroom (which had pretty much become Logan and Virgil’s bedroom at this point) to the kitchen.
Baskets, filled with chocolates, fruits, flowers, and a coffee maker. Two large teddy bears, one white, one grey.
Then in the kitchen…
Waffles, cooked to perfection by Patton. Hot syrup, berries, whipped cream, and then there was the fact that the entire kitchen had been shifted to look like one of those fancy diners.
He had created an entire ballroom, filled it to the brim with random facets of Thomas’s personality, added music and snacks, and then closed it off for later.
His room was open to go outside and eat at the picnic he had set up, on a blanket completely covered in hearts.
What had he missed?
Crap! There were supposed to be chocolates at the picnic! Roman hurriedly snapped his fingers and felt himself relax.
Wait.
Music.
With another snap of his fingers, radios appeared at every single one of the spots he had set up for Logan and Virgil, all filled with the sound of his voice singing a variety of love songs.
Now, everything was perfect, as it should be for Logan and Virgil’s fourth anniversary.
The bedroom door opened. Roman could tell because the sound of him singing “You Matter to Me” from Waitress slowly started up, followed by Roman’s loud singing.
I could find the whole meaning of life in those sad eyes
They've seen things you never quite say, but I hear…
Logan came into the kitchen first. He blinked at the fancy diner and offered Roman what was probably a smile- Roman wasn’t quite sure, but admittedly, it wasn’t like the logical side smiled much anyway. As Logan gingerly took a seat, Virgil appeared behind him. His hands flinched slightly at the sight but he did smile at Roman before moving for the coffee machine.
“No!”
Virgil blinked. Had Roman turned to look at Logan, he would’ve noticed the side putting his head in his hands, but his gaze was fixated solely on Virgil and the mugs he was reaching for.
“I’ll do that!” Roman stepped forward and shoved Virgil towards the table. “It’s your day!”
“I um…” Virgil licked his lips. “I don’t want-”
“We appreciate it, Roman,” Logan interrupted. He fixed Virgil with a look. “Just breakfast, right?”
Roman nodded eagerly.
Virgil pursed his lips before moving back over to the table Logan was already seated at and taking the spot across from him. The two of them leaned forward, probably to tell each other how pleased they were with Roman’s efforts, while Roman reached for the coffee.
He had been setting up things like this for the past four years, every time their anniversary hit, and he had never seemed to get it quite right. Somewhere along the line, one or the other always disappeared and everything fell to shambles pretty quickly.
It didn’t matter. Roman would make today so enjoyable, they would wish everyday was Anniversary Day.
He placed two coffee mugs in front of them. “What would you like to eat?” He asked.
Logan and Virgil looked at each other, then over to the obvious stack of waffles sitting on the counter.
“Toast,” Virgil deadpanned.
Logan hid his smile with a single hand. He nodded vaguely in the waffles direction and Roman skipped over to the platter and then placed it in the middle of the lovebird’s table.
“Thank you, Roman.” Logan met his eyes and gave a quiet nod before reaching to grab a waffle with his fork.
They ate in relative silence, now and then raising an eyebrow or flickering their eyes in a direction to communicate some sort of message Roman didn’t understand. He waited patiently for the two of them to finish eating before snapping his fingers and clearing the table in an instant.
“Right! Now, I have an outdoorsy activity plan for you including Swan Boats-”
“I can’t!” Virgil interrupted.
Roman paused. “Why not?”
“I’m… allergic to water?”
There was a beat of silence. Logan stared open-mouthed at Virgil but Roman nodded knowingly.
“Okay, then we can skip the Swan Boats and go right to the theater.”
Logan winced at that.
“Don’t worry,” Roman said quickly. “It’s gay.”
“Look, Roman, I’m sure your play is very good… who’s in it?”
“Me!”
Virgil closed his eyes and Logan licked his lips.
“Right. I’m sure it’s… adequate. But I’m not very fond of theater-”
“You’ll like this one,” Roman said. “Come on! I promise it’ll be fun!”
Virgil and Logan shared another one of their looks. Their hands laced together and both of them nodded over at Roman, who was all too happy to lead them out of the kitchen and towards his room.
When Roman glanced behind him, he found Virgil raising his eyebrows at Logan, an expression that Logan seemed to be purposely ignoring. Roman wasn’t quite sure what to make of it but he chose to leave his strange nerds to whatever they were up to and concentrate on the performance he was about to give. It would be a bit difficult to give, as for some reason, none of the other sides that preferred acting had liked the idea of acting for Logan and Virgil.
“Logan hates theater,” Courage had said, “and Virgil is scared of being the only audience member clapping. Besides, you know they don’t do anything for anniversaries anyway.”
Roman did know that, which is why he had set up this show for them. In his opinion, it was important to celebrate the big moments. Especially four years of being together.
His performance began with a song about feeling lost and alone. The moment the song began, Logan began shifting in his seat and Virgil muttered something in his ear.
During intermission, Logan went up to Roman and gave him what could’ve either been a smile or a grimace.
“I have work,” he said simply. “Virgil says he’ll watch the rest of your performance and tell me about it, because I don’t want your efforts to go unwatched, but I do really need to go.”
Roman stared at him. “It’s your anniversary! You should be relaxing!”
Logan just shrugged. “I don’t see an anniversary as an achievement.”
Before Roman could even begin to unpack all that, Logan gave him a tiny wave and left Virgil to watch the rest of Roman’s performance alone.
__
Okay, so the theater and the swan boats were a bust. That was fine. Roman had plenty of other things planned for today.
Except, then Virgil wanted to go work, so only he and Logan went to Patton’s cooking class.
And then Logan saw a book he hadn’t read in the library, so Virgil did the escape room by himself (he did manage to complete it though.)
And then both Logan and Virgil were busy, so the picnic was completely ruined.
By 3 o’clock, Roman had all but given up trying to get Logan and Virgil to do fun things and was sitting by the kitchen table, head firmly planted on the tabletop, and letting out quiet moans as if he were a fish that had just been gutted.
There was a creak from the chair beside him. Roman turned his head to the side and blinked rapidly at Logan. The side’s expression was unreadable, but Roman sat up and glared fully at his stupid friend.
“Why don’t you just enjoy the stuff I make you!?” Roman threw his hands up in the air. “You’ve been together for four years! You should celebrate that!”
Logan sighed quietly. “Would it make you feel better if Virgil and I did one of your… date ideas?”
“No!” Roman crossed his arms over his chest. “It would make me feel better if you wanted to celebrate.”
“So we can’t make you feel better then?”
It took Roman a second to figure out what he was insinuating. That the only reason he would do anything Roman planned was for him and not their relationship. “Why don’t you want to celebrate!?” he practically shouted.
Virgil appeared in the doorway. Roman’s eyes flickered between the two of them but it was Logan who answered his question.
“Virgil doesn’t like the over-attention, and I don’t see an anniversary as an achievement.” His voice was casual as if they were discussing how the sky was blue or that water made things wet. “The true achievements in a relationship are when you compromise, help the other through obstacles, show your interest in their interests. It’s not an arbitrary date.”
Roman stared rather blankly at him.
“The achievement,” Logan continued, “is just being in the relationship. It doesn’t matter to me how long I’m with Virgil, so long as I am.”
“You fucking-” Virgil spoke from the doorway, voice a bit more muffled than usual.
Logan glanced behind him, eyebrows knit together, and barely had time to ask “what?” before Virgil had hauled him out of his chair, waved at Roman, and pulled Logan out of the kitchen.
Roman snapped his fingers, and all of the plans he had made for the day- the party, the trivia game, the Disney movie marathon- vanished into thin air.
__
Logan walked into his room later that night and was not at all surprised to find Virgil laying across his bed, computer open to Disney+, and Virgil browsing through it in an attempt to find a movie they could watch together. It was a common sight- although normally, Virgil wore his hoodie instead of the skeleton onesie on at the moment. And normally, there wasn’t a unicorn onesie spread out off to the side of him in a very obvious message as to what Logan was to wear.
He scooped the onesie up.
“Dinner?” Virgil glanced over at him. He smiled widely at the sight of conjured Chinese food and then rolled his eyes. “Utter sap.”
Logan was still trying not to melt from the mere look on Virgil’s face and wasn’t able to find his tongue before Virgil had sat up and given him a soft kiss.
“We’re not eating on the bed,” Logan managed when they broke apart.
“Then you better set up the beanbags.” Virgil stuck his tongue out and then instantly went back to browsing. “Are you against musical Disney movies?”
“I suppose not.” Logan grimaced at the thought of the show Roman had put on. “However, I’d prefer it to not be a romance.”
Virgil’s gaze laughed back at him, as if he too was remembering the oddity of watching Roman play all parts of a romance play- although Logan had managed to escape before watching Roman passionately make out with… nobody.
And while he was sorry he had left Virgil alone for that, he was also incredibly happy he missed it.
Logan set the Chinese food down on his desk and headed over towards the hamper set off to the side of his room. It took him less than a minute to strip from his earlier dress clothes, slip into the onesie Virgil clearly wanted him in, and tie a blue tie around the front of it.
“Moana doesn’t have any romance in it,” Virgil said aloud. Before Logan could respond he muttered, “I’m in the mood for a classic though.”
Logan left him to it (Virgil would figure out what he wanted eventually) and made his way over to the ridiculously large bean bag usually set up in the corner of the room. Virgil had insisted they get it practically the moment he moved in, and Logan had to admit, the thing was quite useful.
At the moment though, it was completely covered in graphic novels Virgil read while listening to his loud emo music.
Logan sorted them onto the shelf as quickly as he could, ignoring the little “hmms” and “I hate that movies” coming from his bed. Once the beanbag was completely cleared off, Logan snatched their favorite blanket- a weighted galaxy one and sent it fluttering over the top.
“Have you picked a movie yet, Virge?”
“No.” Virgil sighed. “Yes. Maybe. I don’t know.”
“I think you’ve given me every possible meaning to that question.”
“Fuck you.”
Logan smiled softly at the familiar nonthreatening words. He tapped the back of Virgil’s legs as he walked back over to grab the Chinese food, as a quiet friendly reminder that everything was ready for him.
“Mulan,” Virgil said aloud. He twisted to meet Logan’s eyes. “Mulan? Not the hideous new one, obviously. The old one.”
“Satisfactory.”
Virgil's answering smile is bright and not for the first time in their relationship- or really not for the first time that day, Logan is reminded exactly why he fell in love with him. He said nothing as Virgil jumped up and settled into the beanbag, holding one arm out for Logan to curl into before dropping the weighting blanket over both of them.
Virgil balanced the computer on his knees and Logan used the tension of the blanket as a sort of table Chinese food. He curled into Virgil’s side, letting out a quiet breath.
“I can’t believe Mr. I-Don't-Care-About-Anniversaries got my favorite takeout for our anniversary,” Virgil teased lightly.
Logan ignored the heat rushing into his cheeks. “You still enjoy them, even if you don’t like grand gestures. I’m not above pushing aside my opinion to make you happy.”
“You are annoyingly sweet, Logan.”
Logan smiled and leaned up to kiss his boyfriend’s cheek. Virgil’s answer was to shove fried rice into his face and click the start of the movie.
“Did you know,” Logan said over the music of the opening credits, “that the true story of Mulan is a lot more feminist than what Disney was going for here?”
“Yeah?” Virgil supplied.
“Yeah. In the real folktale, Mulan’s family knew she was leaving and supported her. Plus, when the army found out she was a woman, they didn’t care and just let her stay because she was that strong of a soldier.”
Logan glanced over at Virgil and found that he was facing him, barely even an inch away. Their breath mingled and Logan's eyes darted down to his boyfriend’s lips.
“I expect you to rip this movie apart with me,” Virgil whispered.
“Obviously.”
He wasn’t sure who leaned forward first, but by the time Shan Yu had come on screen, Virgil’s lips were soft against his.
He did know that Virgil was the first to pull back and shovel another chopstick full of fried rice into his mouth.
“This guy sucks,” Virgil said, jabbing a single finger at Shan Yu. “I hope that when he goes to charge his phone, it only works at a certain angle.”
“He’s the villain- I- wait. Virgil, they don’t have phones-”
Virgil stuck a dumpling into his open mouth.

Blue Neighborhood Series: EASE (Jan-centric) - Mac
AN: Again, nothing I do would ever come to completion without Meggie being my rock and betaing this monstrosity. I love her and I hope yall like this one!
Summary: The students of Eastview Highschool are still reeling from a post by their school drama account. Jan is too busy with auditioning for the school musical to pay much mind to a bit of teenage angst. Jan is too busy in general. But she’s not overworked. She’s totally fine. She can handle it. She has everything under control.
6:00am: Wake Up
Jan’s eyes slowly adjusted themselves to the morning light just beginning to peek through her curtains. She didn’t groan, didn’t add five minutes to her alarm. She rolled up and out of bed.
She pulled the sheet taut where she had messed it up while sleeping and tucked it back under her mattress, doing the same to the blanket. She fluffed her pillows and set them upright, and finally placed her little stuffed bunny in the center of the pillows.
She knelt down to pull the drawers from under her bed. She selected a random combination of shorts and t-shirt before queuing up her morning run playlist. She noted a text from Gigi and about eleven other people.
G: no idea.
G: u sure it’s one of our girls?
J: Looks like our uniform.
7:00am: Shower
Jan didn’t fuss too much in the shower, rinsing herself down quickly, but making sure to apply her favorite body soap generously along her legs and arms. It smelled like peaches and always reminded her of summertime.
She brushed her teeth in the shower too. When she mentioned offhandedly to Jackie one day the older girl had looked grossed out. Jan didn’t mind.
It was more efficient that way.
7:20am: Breakfast
Jan kissed her mother on the cheek as thanks for another delicious meal.
She fussed after Jan, telling her to be safe on her way to school and to text her when practice was over. Jan assured her mother that she would and skipped out the door, bookbag in tow, without another word.
7:30am: Walk to School
Jackie had taken to walking in the morning with Crystal and her weird art friends recently, so it was just Gigi and Brita that met Jan at her door.
Jan greeted them with a warm smile and made it about halfway down her porch steps before Brita launched into her many theories about who on the cheer team was sleeping with a basketball player.
The picture had made the rounds last night. Jan was up doing an online lab for her college chemistry course when she got the notification.
Yes, she had her notifications on for the school drama account. Sue her, but she liked to be in the know about things.
She immediately recognized their cheer outfit and hadn’t hesitated before contacting every single girl on the team to inquire about who was making out with Eastview High’s All Star basketball player.
No one on the team fessed up.
Jan wasn’t concerned per se. It was their prerogative to make out with whoever, but if this was about to be a scandal, she’d rather be ahead of it.
“When I first saw it I thought it might be you, J,” Brita said, turning to shoot a look at Jan.
“Oh my god, Brittany!” Jan shook her head as if it were the wildest idea she’d ever heard.
“I’m just sayin’.” Brita held her hands up in surrender. “My first thought was good for her. She needs some stress relief.”
“I don’t need that kind of relief.” Jan chuckled.
Brita just hummed skeptically.
Jan turned to look at Gigi who was being awfully quiet that morning, “Who do you think it was, Gigi?”
“I have no idea.” Gigi just shrugged.
Jan wasn’t convinced. Gigi was staring at her shoes like they were the most interesting shoes on the planet. She clearly knew something she wasn’t telling them. Jan made a mental note to prod her for details later.
“Well, the tall one was definitely Hall. That’s for sure,” Brita continued rambling.
“Why do you say that?” Gigi asked innocently.
Now Jan was sure Gigi knew something. Everyone with two eyes and half a brain cell knew the person not in the cheer uniform was Hall. Jaida was the damn captain of the team. The most lauded person in their highschool. Everyone knew what she looked like.
Brita looked at Gigi confusedly. “Besides the obvious, it’s her truck in the picture.”
“It could have just been someone else on her car,” Gigi spoke quietly, clearly losing her nerve.
“I doubt it. Did you see how tall the other person was?” Brita shook her head. “No, it’s definitely Hall.”
The conversation lulled a bit as the three made their way into the school building, through the metal detectors, and headed down the hallway to their lockers. All conveniently located next to each other.
When Gigi had asked how that had happened Jan had just shrugged and said that being student body president had its advantages.
As they sifted through their lockers for their books, Jan mused. “But which one of our girls would be sleeping with Hall?”
Brita thought a moment before holding up a hand to count off her fingers. “Well, start with which ones are gay. Jackie, Gigi-”
Jan cut her off. “You don’t have to be gay to wanna sleep with Hall.”
“Okay, true.” Brita giggled.
“For straight girls, you both sure talk about how hot Jaida is a lot.” Gigi gave them both pointed looks, before continuing. “Besides, half the squad is gay that doesn’t help.”
Brita and Jan agreed and gave up theorizing for now as they waltzed into homeroom with their arms linked.
7:40am Homeroom/Announcements
Jan shot their homeroom teacher a smile before excusing herself to the front office.
While being the student body president did have its perks, it also had its responsibilities. Namely, the announcements every morning.
Jan greeted the ladies at the front desk and spent the better part of ten minutes cooing at pictures and videos of their young children that they always insisted on showing her. Jan never minded. It always made them smile and it made her smile, so it was a win-win.
Principal Visage came by a few moments later. She gave Jan a warm smile and ran her through the announcements for the day, handing over the slip of paper with the same information.
Jan took it eagerly and attempted to strike up a conversation with her principal. But Mrs. Visage wasn’t one for small talk and excused herself shortly after the homeroom bell rang. She gave Jan an encouraging smile, though, before disappearing into her office.
Jan readied herself by the microphone and smiled as a couple of students filed into the office to make announcements for their various clubs.
Bryce showed up at 8:00 on the dot and Jan chastised him for giving her a heart attack. Her VP slash boyfriend of two years just smiled. “You know I’d never leave you hangin’.”
Jan didn’t have time to retort before the bell rang. She took a deep inhale and exhale before pressing down on the intercom and putting on her cheeriest voice.
“Good Wednesday morning Eastview High! I hope you guys are ready for the football game this Friday. Get excited! Go Eagles!” Jan paused to look over at the students in line. “We’ve got quite a few student announcements this morning so I’ll let them take it away.”
Jan moved back and allowed each of the line of students access to the mic to plug their after school activity or club. It was still early in the semester so there were quite a few. Jan herself made plugs for both the cheerleading and soccer teams.
“Now to your VP for the most important announcement, lunch.”
Jan turned to Bryce who smiled goofily. “That was a Jan-mazing joke there!”
Jan could hear groans from the nearby homerooms. She just smiled. Early on in their relationship, Bryce had somehow decided that making puns out of Jan’s name was peak comedy. Although, he had a weird grasp on what counted as a pun. She had tried to explain to him that the joke wasn’t funny unless the word already had an ‘an’ in it. He still didn’t seem to get it.
He even got her a necklace for the anniversary that said Janmate. Like soulmate… but… her name.
She took it all in stride though and forced a laugh anyway.
“For lunch we’ve got chicken and pizza-”
Jan spaced out for a bit as Bryce went on about the menu for today. He cracked a few jokes and the ladies at the front desk practically swooned. Jan rolled her eyes fondly. Bryce had that effect on people.
She closed out the announcements with her encouraging quote of the day and a reminder to get tickets to Friday’s game.
8:15 - 12:20: Classes
Jan was taking all AP classes this semester which meant she had to work ten times harder to keep up with everyone else. Yes, she was still in line for salutatorian, and yes, she could probably get As in every class without lifting a finger, and yes, she was taking college courses in addition to her current course load, and no, she wasn’t overworked.
12:25: Lunch
Jan threw her pile of books in her locker with little regard to how they tumbled against each other at the bottom. She grabbed her purse and Gigi’s hand and the two made their way down to the lunchroom.
Jan waited until they were in line, trays in hand, boxed in by students on either side of them before finally asking, “So what aren’t you telling me?”
Gigi tensed immediately and tried valiantly to keep eye contact with Jan, “What are you talking about?”
Jan grabbed a yogurt from the fridge and turned back to face Gigi. “You know who’s in the picture don’t you?”
“No,” Gigi answered too quickly.
Jan wasn’t convinced. “Well, you know something.”
Gigi grabbed two slices of pizza while shaking her head, “I really don’t, J. Honest.”
They made their way up to the register and Jan smiled warmly at the lady running the machine. She gave her a glare in response. Jan paid for her lunch and waited patiently for Gigi to do the same.
Jan knew she wasn’t going to get anything more out of Gigi. They had grown up together and Jan knew better by now than to keep pushing.
But a little part of her did wonder. “Who are you covering for?”
“No one. I’m not covering for anyone!” Gigi exclaimed.
“I know, I’m teasing.” Jan gave a giggle.
Gigi huffed but allowed a small smile to grace her face.
The two sat down at their usual table. Bryce, Brita, and Brita’s boyfriend Bruno all came and joined them a bit later.
Lunch passed in a blurr. Jan half-listened to Bryce talk about the football team and their upcoming game. The rest of her time was spent worrying her bottom lip between her teeth and mentally running through her lines for her audition tomorrow.
1:25-3:30: Classes
The afternoon always seemed to pass slower to Jan. She noticed three times that her mind had drifted off and away from the work in front of her. She really needed to get a grip. And maybe some more sleep tonight.
4:00pm: Cheer Practice
Jan led the girls through another grueling practice.
Ten laps to start, stretching exercises, pyramid clean up, full routine until they got it perfect.
It was nowhere near perfect when six o’clock hit, but there wasn’t time to dwell on that. There wasn’t time for much of anything.
Roll up the floor mats, change for soccer practice, eat a granola bar on the way to the field.
6:10pm: Soccer Practice
Jan had been playing soccer since she was 5.
Her parents swore she came out of the womb juggling. Jan always laughed and told them that was anatomically impossible. Her father then would say she got her mother’s humor.
Practice was fairly uneventful. Tiring as hell, as usual, but it always left Jan feeling accomplished.
8:00pm: Dinner and Homework
Jan was thankful for the light load today. When the spring musical started up, she would really be stretched thin. Luckily for now she only had cheer every school day and soccer three days a week and soccer games on weekends and her college class every other day and being student body president every day and keeping her 4.0 GPA…
It was manageable. For now at least.
Jan scarfed down the leftovers her mother had set aside for her and started on her pile of work. She was usually good about keeping on top of homework, so it only took a few hours to get everything done. She checked in on her college chemistry course to make sure she had turned in her lab quiz. She had.
When Jan looked up it was already 11pm. She sighed and knew her parents and brother were most likely asleep by now. She would have to practice her audition song outside.
Jan hopped in the shower and rinsed herself off, hoping the steam would help her vocal chords and the grime coming off her like a sheet would help her feel better.
She tiptoed down the stairs and out her back door. She walked to the edge of her backyard and perched herself up on the fence, trying to get distance away from the houses so she didn’t bother anyone.
She shivered as the cool air bit at her exposed ankles.
She started humming softly, reaccustoming her voice to its own music. She took her time, running through warmups softly until she felt secure enough. She let herself get a bit louder and heard their neighbor Rock shut her window pointedly.
Jan sighed. She needed to practice.
She kept going, letting the notes extend past her mouth and fill the night air around her. She counted off in her head and hit each beat perfectly on cue with the music forever spinning in her mind.
A window opened from a nearby house, but it was too dark to see who it was or where it was.
Jan kept going, getting into the chorus and letting her control slip and her voice do what it wanted to. The air around her seemed to crackle with electricity and her heart rate increased as she hit the high note and this… this was what Jan lived for.
The crickets, an appreciative audience continued their chirping as Jan finished the last lyrics.
Somewhere, much closer than was comfortable came a soft clapping. It startled Jan at first.
She looked over to see none other than Jaida Essence Hall leaning over Jan’s fence to applaud her. Jan, ever the performer, gave a mock curtsey and Jaida chuckled lightly.
“Hey, Jaida,” Jan said in greeting.
“Hey, Jan.”
They didn’t do this. They didn’t talk like this. Like friends.
Not that they weren’t friends.
They had grown up together.
Although, Jan grew up with everyone in this neighborhood so that wasn’t really saying much. Although they had all grown up playing games in the middle of the street, running around in the heat slick sun and scraping their knees on solid concrete. And that meant a lot as a kid. It still sometimes meant a lot.
“How are you?” Jan asked.
Jaida’s demeanor suddenly changed and she let out a bitter laugh. “Oh you know.”
“I really don’t.”
There was a pointed pause. “No, I guess you don’t,” Jaida mused.
The silence stretched between them and the once calming air of the outdoors suddenly felt stifling.
“I’m sorry.”
Jaida looked up. “Why? You take the picture?”
“No!” Jan shook her head. “But still. I’m guessing this isn’t how you wanted things to go.”
“You’d guess correct.” Jaida sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “You gon’ ask me who it was? Has she told you yet?”
Jan bit her lip. She wasn’t going to ask, no matter how much she wanted to know. “No. And no. No one told me anything.”
“Hmm. Weird. I woulda thought you knew from the start.” Jaida seemed almost… shocked. Like she figured Jan already knew. Like she figured Jan had this dirt on her and oh, now Jan understood what this was about.
“I don’t know who it was. And even if I did, it’s none of my business.” Jan spoke firmly. “Is that why you came down here then? To make sure I wouldn’t tell?”
“No! Well yes, and no.” Jaida looked down at her feet guiltily. “I knew you weren’t the type to go spreadin gossip, but I wanted to make sure.” Jaida looked back up to meet Jan’s eyes “plus I hadn’t heard you sing since we were little.”
At Jan’s confused expression, Jaida laughed a bit, “You tellin’ me you don’t remember when we were growin’ up and you and Jackie would put on these elaborate plays and keep us all hostage til we clapped?”
“We did not keep you hostage!” Jan exclaimed.
“Roxanne nearly pissed herself one time!”
“She did not!”
A voice rang out above their heads. “Did too!”
Jaida and Jan looked up and over to see Rock leaning out her window to gaze down at them.
“Rock, what the fuck?” Jaida asked in between confused chuckles.
“Sorry, I was just listening to Jan singing and I heard my name so I thought- I just thought I’d- I’ll just go now.” Rock made a show of closing her window, but the shadow of her head was still visible through her curtains, making it clear she was still listening in.
Jan just laughed at the ludicracy of it all. She found Jaida doing the same.
It was strange. That after all this time. All the ways life had changed them, they still stood here, laughing in spite of it all.
Jan and Jaida’s eyes met and for a brief moment it felt a bit like lightning. A bit like they were supposed to be here right now. Together.
Jaida must have realized she was staring because she coughed a bit awkwardly. “Well, I should let you get back to it.”
Jan felt her stomach drop at the notion, but she nodded. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah.” Jaida smiled before turning on her heel and disappearing back into her yard. Jan found herself surprised to be missing the other girl’s presence.
She shook it off and went through her song a few more times before deciding to call it a night.
She made sure to shout a goodnight to Rock, who she was sure blushed at being caught out, but returned the sentiment nonetheless.
Jan tiptoed back up the stairs to her room and set her alarm for the morning.
7:22am: Wake Up
Jan woke up like a flash. As if her body instinctively knew something was wrong. The light filtering through her curtains was way too bright for it to be 6:00am. She looked over to her phone and her heart leapt at the time.
She bolted out of bed and threw on the outfit she had laid out the night before. She didn’t have time to do her makeup, a pre-audition ritual she always partook in. She didn’t have time at all before she heard a knock at the front door.
She raced down to see Jackie, Gigi, and Brita all looking at her concerned. She looked a mess probably. Jan tried to give them a reassuring smile and said she’d be right down and she just had to grab her bag and her sheet music.
She closed the door lightly and sprinted up the stairs, grabbing the aforementioned items and giving herself one last onceover in the mirror.
Jan knew this wasn’t the end of the world. In reality, she had only missed her morning run and shower, which was fine. Everything was fine. It didn’t feel like her world was suddenly crashing down around her.
7:35am: Walk to School
The group walked in relative silence. At least for Jan’s part. She was running through her lines over and over and over in her head, while Jackie encouraged her softly and Brita and Gigi talked in hushed tones all the way to school.
Jan hardly even registered the fact that Jackie was walking with them today. When she asked about it, the older girl just shook her head and said not to worry about it. Jan agreed to drop it, if only for the fact that the nerves in her stomach were making it hard to talk.
Jan bid Brita and Gigi goodbye at the auditorium doors. Jackie hung back, clearly sensing that something was wrong.
“Are you okay?” she asked, genuine concern creeping into her voice.
Jan nodded. “Yeah, I just woke up late and it freaked me out.”
Jackie nodded but seemed unconvinced. “Well, you got this.” She gave Jan’s hands a squeeze. “Don’t worry.”
Jan gave her a small smile and nodded.
She did. She totally had this.
She walked into the auditorium, greeted the director and the stage manager and got all the way up on stage before she realized that she actually didn’t have this. That maybe for the first time in her life, Jan really wasn’t going to do well at this.
It was a stupid thought. A silly voice that she could usually shut out.
But now it was the only thing she could hear.
She couldn’t hear the lines being read out to her or the start of her music. Something inside her had snapped and she couldn’t shake the feeling of dread creeping up on her.
As if to further rub salt in the wound, right as she was about to hit the high note, her voice cracked.
Jan wasn’t delusional.
She had known this balancing act would come to an end eventually. She was doing too much. Everyone said so.
But she couldn’t seem to stop herself either. She just had a lot of love in her heart. And she needed to show it somehow.
Or maybe she just wanted to be good at something. So she had tried a bit of everything and when she found that she wasn’t truly exceptional at any one thing she just kept doing everything. Maybe she had been hoping that no one would realize how lost she truly was if she just did everything.
Because Jan felt lost.
And it hit her like a truck everytime she stopped moving. So she hadn’t stopped moving.
She had known this balancing act would come to an end eventually. She just didn’t think everything would come to an end now.
Jan ran out of the auditorium and into someone. She opened her mouth to apologize but a familiar voice cut her off before she was able.
“Hey, I was just gonna come wish you luck-” Jaida took in Jan’s frazzled appearance. “Are you okay?”
Jan looked up at her, tears blurring her vision that much more. “I-I-” Jan could hardly speak, let alone explain all that was wrong with her at that moment.
“What do you need?” Jaida said seriously.
“I don’t know.” Jan’s voice sounded strange in her own head and she couldn’t stop gasping for air. She hardly noticed the crowd that was quickly forming around them.
“Okay, come here, people are starin’.” Jaida grabbed Jan’s hand and led her out the nearest doors and out to the back parking lot.
Jan was still breathing heavily and doing her best to articulate the fact that she still had to go do the announcements.
“Nuh-uh, baby, you gonna stay right here till you can breathe again,” Jaida asserted.
Jan tried to insist that she had things to do, places to be. Jaida just sat her down against the cold brick wall of their high school and assured her that everything was going to be fine. Jan went to argue, but the sight of familiar red curls coupled with unfamiliar dark ones caught her eye.
Bryce, Jan’s boyfriend of two years, came stumbling out from under the bleachers with a petite brunette following close behind him.
Jan recognized her immediately. Dahlia.
Bryce had this giddy smile on his face and looked to all the world like he had just had the time of his life. Dahlia was just laughing at him and clutching the strap of her book bag like it was a lifeline. The pair didn’t see Jan and Jaida at first.
If Jan had any more pride left in her; she’d feel remorseful for yelling at him.
But she didn’t.
She stood up and started screaming at the top of her lungs about how much of a scumbag he was. About how he never really cared about her and was only ever in their relationship for the VP position. It made perfect sense to Jan why he would cheat. And with Dahlia no less. A girl she looked nothing like.
Jaida had to steer her away from the pair of lovebirds or Jan was going to do something really stupid.
“Hey, hey, it’s not worth it.” Jaida tried to speak calmly.
Jan wasn’t having it. She pulled out her phone with every intention of recording her cheating boyfriend and his side chick when she saw a notification from the school’s drama account.
She had been tagged in a picture.
Before she could think too much about it, Jan clicked on the post. She felt dread seeping into her stomach. The picture was of her and Jaida standing awfully close outside the auditorium. Jan’s heart nearly gave out at the caption.
A player on and off the court.
Before Jan could process what the hell that meant her phone lit up with notifications.
She managed to single out Brita’s name from the bunch and opened their conversation. Jan could feel hot tears pricking the edges of her eyes, which only served to blur her phone screen more.
B: y didn’t u tell us u were the one making out with Hall?
That was the final straw.
Jan broke down.
She broke down. At 7:58am on a Thursday morning, leaning against a dirty brick wall with a girl she hadn’t spoken to in years dabbing at her eyes with the edge of her shirt.

Since we didn't end with jealous Dennis and Mac with a boyfriend in TGGR, I'm prepared to settle back in for a normal, silly season of classic MacDen shenanigans. Which is perfect! That's exactly what I want! I want each episode to be just a little more cute and a little more clear about how comfortable and deep Mac and Dennis's bond has really become. I want insight into how their texting relationship has regrown since Dennis came back from North Dakota. I want homoerotic tension ala the old Hollywood Noir films in TJAMT. I want explicit, over the top, on the nose metaphors in Solves Global Warming with Dennis making faces in the background because he's the only one who notices only for those faces to fade into little shrugs and nods and maybe even smiles to himself because it doesn't scare him anymore. I want little domestic moments all through the whole thing, references to the movies they watch and each others' opinions on coffee.
And then I want them to play laser tag in Waiting For Big Mo. It's dark, and the adrenaline is pumping, and they've been waiting forever for this Mo guy that Frank insists is going ti be here any second but clearly is never going to show. They started a game with the promise of restarting should the mysterious man actually make an appearance, and they've all been joshing around and pissing each other off to pass the time, teams forming and breaking every few minutes, and it feels natural. Classic Gang stuff.
I want the atmosphere to get to Dennis, the annoying but familiar sounds of the arena pinging off in the background, and the constant, comforting presence of Mac at his side. A noise a few yards away puts them on high alert, and without a word, Mac yanks his arm, and the two of them duck to the side, finding a short lived safe haven behind one of the stacked-cube obstacles. When Dennis looks up, the neon lights break through the shadows and paint Mac's face in slices of inhuman colors, blue and green, exaggerating his cheekbones and putting a synthetic shine in his eyes. His hair is all ruffled from the gameplay, and they're both panting from running around so much.
It makes Dennis's eyes go wide and he starts to get that feeling he's been fighting for a while - the same one from the restuarant and the RPG and... he starts to lift a hand to Mac's face. It's so easy, even though before it always seemed so hard. Maybe that means he's finally ready... for whatever comes next... Then the lights go up, and he freezes, and they whip around to find Frank walking up with a big cheesy grin, Charlie and Dee grumbling furiously on his either side.
"Hey, assholes! Look! I told you he'd show any second. We're starting again - with real teams this time. Hope you losers are ready to get your ass beat!"
The three of them part, and a moderately fit and attractive man in his forties steps through from behind to apologize for being late, it was a family emergency or something, when he stops short. Dennis follows his eyeline to Mac, who stares back with his mouth hanging open.
"Mac?" The man starts to grin, a little taken aback.
"Wait," Frank interrupts, waving his hands around. "You know this homo?"
Just the look on Mac's face alone confirms it. Mac and the random man that Frank found on craigslist who knows his name - Big Mo, according to Frank, Morgan according to Mac - marvel over running into each other for a second, before Dee gets the bright idea to cut in and demand to have it explained how the two jerkwads know each other anyways. Mac stops short, fumbling for a moment, and the two men lock eyes. It's weird and obvious and Dennis is starting to lose feeling in his legs.
"Well," Big Mo says, looking to Mac, who immediately flushes.
"Right... so..."
"Well?" Dee prompts.
"I mean..." he starts, but doesn't get any further.
"Oh!" Charlie claps, looking between the two, then scrunches his nose. "Ohhhh..."
"Oh! Woof," Dee grimaces. "You and him?"
Mac glares at them.
"What?" Frank narrows his gaze, looking around at each of them. "I don't get it."
Charlie turns to answer his troll-like roommate, voice sliding a bit higher as he uses made up terms to explain that Mac and Big Mo are, in fact, gay lovers. Dennis can feel his brows furrowing, and his scowl deepening but he can't do anything to stop it. Something, a feeling, an impulse, is clawing at his ribs. Dee corrects Charlie's terminology with a sick combination of glee and repulsion contorting her expression, and Mac practically trips over himself to correct her and then tell all three of them to shut up because that's not it, okay?
"Actually," he says, "we didn't just hook up, okay? We went on a date. We dated. I'm dating material now, so."
The response he gets is a chorus of "Oof," and "Awkward," and "Wait, Big Mo's a gay? I hired a gay guy off Craigslist?"
Mac scowls, agitated. "No, no, not awkward! Not oof, because it didn't end badly!"
"It didn't end at all," Big Mo notes, linking their hands. "We're still dating"
"Exactly!"
"What?" The word rips from his throat like it's been waiting impatiently to escape. Dennis can't even appreciate finally finding his voice, as everyone stares at him. He only has enough eyes to stare back at Mac.
Big Mo nods, oblivious to the tension. "Yeah. We've been seeing each other about - what was it, babe? Three months?"
The entire gang balks before losing their shit. "WHAT?"
"No! No, we. I mean, our first date was..." Mac's eyebrows jump. He clears his throat awkwardly, before untangling their hands and wrapping an arm around Big Mo's waist. "Okay. So... guys... I guess I have something to tell you."
"Oh, do you?" Charlie drawls.
Mac swats at him with his gun. "I have a... boyfriend, now. And, uh, this is him."
Dennis feels the gun slip out of his fingers. The others have already processed the information, are responding and poking fun and telling him his boyfriend must be an asshole for making them wait so long, and arguing with each other about the game they've already played and whether it's Mac's fault seeing as it's his boyfriend that Frank hired who ended up late, and all Dennis can think is, seriously? That's it? They're just going to nod their heads and except this massive, earth-shattering shift to the status quo as if they were in any way prepared for this to happen? Seriously? Seriously?
"The laser tag arena will be closing in fifteen minutes," a voice interrupts their thoughts over the loudspeaker. "Please wrap up your games and return your guns to the stations, located at the front desk, or to any of our standing attendants by the arena exits."
The words echo in his head as Charlie starts yet another fight with Frank, and Dee complains over the top about being undervalued as a player because she's a woman. He can't seem to stop staring at where Mac's hand rests on Big Mo's hip. Nobody else seems to have heard the overhead announcement. They have to go soon, but nobody else seems to even realize. They can't stay, but nobody is moving. Only Mac's brow furrows, and he turns to look at Dennis.
"Hey, did you hear that? Should we get going?"
Dennis blinks before forcing a smile. "Right, yeah, of course. No, of course. Actually, you know what? You two go on ahead."
"You sure?" Mac's mouth turns down.
Dennis keeps his smile pinned. "Course! We'll catch up."
He nods, brow furrowed, shrugging and taking Big Mo with him through the exit, leaving Dennis to stand there, like an idiot, watching after him as their three other idiots blow his ear drums out with their incessant screaming.

  ---(y/n) POV---
Ahhh, lunchtime, one your favorite times of the day. Breathing deeply through your nose as you entered the cafeteria, your eye caught the baked macaroni and cheese, just calling your name, along with the cornbread and chicken legs near it.
Oh!! (favorite beverage) sounded good too.
Erza skipped next to you, babbling about what she was going to eat. “im in the mood for something strawberry~ oh!!! Strawberry shortcake yum!!”
You snorted at her antics, “erza, real food before dessert, remember?”
Erza pouted before nodding, following you into the line of meals, glancing wistfully to the desert line. You rolled your eyes, patting her shoulder “don’t worry erza, it'll still be there when you're finished.”
The amber-eyed girl huffed, following your lead of the food choices, mac&cheese, cornbread, but getting sliced mutton thigh instead of chicken.
You turned, looking around for seats, before spotting gil waving you over, you smiled, bumping Erza then making your way over to the corner table.
“Hey guys” you cheered, sitting next to harry, erza plopping next to Uma, “ hows it going?”
Uma hummed, dipping a fry in her ranch, tossing it in her mouth. She shrugged, not really having anything to say.
“notin mush” she talked through her food, you snickered, the teal haired girl blushed and swallowed her food “hated goodness class though, it's nauseating.”
Erza snorted, “I would think so, I full hour stuff with FG and her baby talk? Just kill me now”
Uma sorted, looking down at her food. Erza wiggled her brows at you, you huffed and tossed a crumb of cornbread at her.
“Ewwww?!?! What the fuck!?!?!” Mals voice screeched, across the mess hall, Uma, gil, and harry jumped when she screamed and turned, seeing mal making a disgusted face at her oreos. You and Erza glanced at each other, before covering your mouths to prevent Mal hearing you laugh.
Harry blinked, surprised, what the heck? Glancing at Uma, he raised his brow, confused.
“Uma?” he mumbled “wha’ the hell is goin on?” Uma snicked, finally realizing what happened.
“(y/n) and Erza played more than one prank” Uma whispered, not wanting Mal to figure out anything or accuse her of the pranks.
“they also replaced the filling in Mals oreos with blended up baby wipe jelly beans~”
Harry was lucky he wasn’t drinking anything because if he was it would have squirted out of his nose, he snorted loudly, luckily not loud enough to overpower Mals screeching.
Uma reached under the table and low fived you, grinning as Harry began to wheeze. Gil was biting his lip to stifle his laughter, and you giggled, glad they enjoyed your prank so much.
“well,” Uma smirked looking at her boys, “I think that’s a good enough prank for her to be into our group, right boys?”
Harry was still wheezing, so he just gave a thumbs-up as tears ran down his face. Gil nodded, you would be a great addition to the group, you were fun!!
“thank you~” you hummed, taking a sip of your (favorite beverage), eyeing Evie as she turned to look at Harry confused, she raised a brow at you, you just shrugged, the blue-haired girl huffed and turned back to her food.
“what the hell happened’ and why is Harry wheezing?” Harriet had arrived, and she is baffled by Harry's laughter, raising her brows at her little brother.
Uma snorted, shaking her head, “Mal got pranked” Harriet nodded, slapping her bother on the back, she made her way to the food lines.
Harry finally regained his breath, “I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, lassie, yeh just keep surprising meh”
You giggled and gave a small mock bow, seeing Harriet returning and sliding to the side slightly for her to sit.
Harriet hummed thanks and glanced around the table, raising her brow at Erza.
“who are yeh?” Erza’s eye twinkled and she leaned forward towards Harriet, you rolled your eyes, dear god erza is such a disaster lesbian.
“me~? Erza, Erza Scarlet, pleasure ta meet ya.” Erza gave a flirty grin and Harriet huffed through her nose, looking down at her food.
“sorry lassie, I got meh eye on another lass”
Erza pouted but leaned back, respectful of Harriet.
You turned to look at Uma, seeing her glance between Harriet and Erza. She locked eyes with you confused.
Ah, she's confused by Erza’s obvious gayness. “Erza’s gay, she's known that since we were kids, big ol gay crush on wonder woman as soon as she saw her”
Erza turned to you, unbothered by your easygoing outing of her sexuality as she had given you permission to do so before, “bitch don’t lie and say you didn’t have a crush on her either,  you literally said you want her to crush you between her thighs”
“I’m not denying that” you teased, still grinning “I’m just saying that she was your sexual awakening”
“true true” erza nodded, Uma looked at her boys shocked, they looked back, shocked as well, they didn’t know sexuality was not really bothered with, accepted without a thought, they thought it would be like the isle.
“well,” Uma coughed, gaining yours and Erzas attention. “since we seem to be announcing our sexuality, I feel like I need to get this off my chest” you quickly interrupted, not wanting Uma to feel pressured.
“ you don’t have too, Erza and I are just comfortable with ours and pretty much everyone at the school is chill with that kinda stuff, but you don’t have to feel obligated to share your sexuality, that’s your business, your privacy.” Erza nodded rapidly, wholeheartedly agreeing with you
Uma stayed silent for a moment, glancing at her boys.
“well,” she mumbled, your mini-speech actually making her want to tell you guys even more “im okay with telling yall, as you seem to be people I can trust with it.”
You nodded, Erza grinning along, Uma softly smiled, Harry and Gil following her lead
“um alright okay…” Uma took a deep breath “Im Bi”
“sweet” you grinned, making Uma’s shoulders relax “im demi”
Uma raised her brow, “what does demi mean?”
“oh!” you didn’t know that on the isle, there were few known sexualities on the isle, I mean they were known, just not by the VKs “demi is the shortened term of demisexual, its when a person who does not experience sexual attraction unless they form a strong emotional connection with someone.”
“ah” Uma hummed, that made sense
“I think im demi too them” Gil spoke through his fries “I've never really been super attracted to somebody till I've known them for a while”
You hummed “well if you don’t know then you don’t know, there are lots of people who don’t know where they are on the spectrum and that’s okay, you don’t need a label for what you feel”
Gil brightened, wow you gave really good pep talks.
“im pan” Harry blurted, blushing slightly as you giggled, Erza joining you “wha’? why yeh laughing?”
“be-because,” you snickered “because you must have a fucking time with being attracted to anyone regardless of gender!”
Uma groaned, along with Harriet, “Oh my fucking god you don’t know the half of it!!! He's such a fucking disaster!!! He flirts with anything and everything that moves!!!”
Harry was turning scarlet, slamming his head on the table, covering his face with his arms. “oh really~?” you laughed, feeling slightly bad for Harry.
“yeah,” Uma groaned, “he's flirted with Carlos, evie, jane, Audrey, ben, everyone!!!” you burst out cackling but calmed down quickly when you saw Harry glaring at Uma.
“sorry” you coughed, Harry just nodded pouting, face still red. Uma was about to go on but you flicked her shoulder, causing her to realize she was making harry slightly uncomfortable.
“oh, sorry har” Harry just hummed, his face finally cooling down. “Is alright’ “
“well” Harriet hummed, stealing one of Harrys apple slices, he growled and swiped at her, she just snickered and brushed him off.
“That was an interesting conversation, but I’d rather we stop talking about Harrys fanatics and just go back to normal conversations”
The rest of the group agreed and continued on talking. From classes to sword-fighting styles, the six of you were quickly gaining a bond.
Then the bell rang
“well,” you stood, gathering up your tray, Erza following your lead, “time for the next class, see you later guys”
The four pirate teens nodded, standing as well and tossing their trash away.
You bumped fists with Uma and walked off with erza at your side.
“sooo~” Erza hummed, a shit-eating grin on her face “Uma's bi~”
“yep” you mumbled, tapping on your phone, texting your mother. “that means you have a chance, don’t fuck it up”
“I won't I won't”
“that’s what you said last time when we were taking the history test, and look at your score, 25 out of 100”
“fuck off hood!!!”

ooh 13 or 18 macdennis for the prompt 👀
original prompt post
13.   “No, that’s not how you do that”
18.   A new mattress
i’m something of a loose canon and so combined these two prompts into one fic. enjoy this utter chaos.
fic after the “keep reading” break but i would prefer if u would read here on ao3 because tumblr fucked up the formatting and got rid of all my italics, which imo add to the tone in important ways
Mac and Dennis Buy a Mattress
“So you’re telling me,” Dennis says. “That your mattress just spontaneously caught on fire?”
Mac shuffles awkwardly in his seat. “Yes.”
“And you expect me to believe that?”
“I’m not lying, dude. I was just minding my own business, thinking about God, checking out our new flamethrower and –”
“Wait, so you were using the flamethrower inside?”
“No, that’s –”
“You realise that you actively doing things to cause the fire doesn’t make it spontaneous, yeah? You do understand what the word spontaneous means?”
“Yeah, but I didn’t do it, Dennis!”
Dennis raises an eyebrow and Mac glares at him.
“I’m just asking you to check the bank account to see if we’ve got enough for a new one. Also, my room smells like burnt mattress so I’m gonna crash in your room tonight.”
Mac suddenly can’t look Dennis in the eye, but simultaneously pushes himself further towards Dennis’ end of the couch.
“Check it yourself, asshole.”
“You know that I always forget the password for the internet thing.”
“My god!” Dennis is getting increasingly exasperated. “My god, fine! Also I know we don’t have enough, because you spent all our goddamn savings on the flamethrower, which you then used to set your mattress on fire!”
Mac pouts, and fixes Dennis with a look that is completely and utterly pathetic, but still has its desired effect, making Dennis give in and say, “Fine. Fine, I’ll ask Frank. Also, we’re getting the new one today, because I don’t want you sleeping in my bed.”
Two hours later at the mattress store, Mac and Dennis stand facing a rows and rows of beds. Mac’s hands are resting on his hips and he’s glaring at the overwhelming number of options in front of them like he’s resisting the urge to whip out the flamethrower and make the entire store spontaneously catch fire. Dennis slings his arm around Mac’s shoulder, to make sure he doesn’t run off and do something dumb.
“Where should we start?” he asks Mac.
Mac’s frown deepens. “I didn’t think it’d be this complicated. Last time I bought a mattress –” he pauses to think. “Actually, my old mattress was just your old mattress when you upgraded.”
“Okay, well,” Dennis starts to lead him toward some of the mid-range queen mattresses. “My personal recommendation is this one. Perfect balance of hard and soft, and optimal bounce for banging.”
Mac ducks out from under Dennis arm and sits down on the mattress, bouncing gently to test Dennis’ assertion. “I don’t know dude, I feel like it needs more bounce.”
Dennis chortles. “No, no, no, Mac. Trust me, when you’re plowing a chick, this mattress is perfect.”
Mac hums, but doesn’t seem convinced.
“Okay, let me show you,” Dennis says, because it’s really the only option left. “So I’m the girl in this situation,” he says as he climbs on and lies in the middle of the mattress. He pushes himself up on one elbow and looks at Mac. “Now come straddle me.”
“What? Why, dude?”
“Trust me.”
Mac shrugs and moves towards Dennis. When he’s kneeling beside him, he grabs Dennis’ waist and tries to roll him over. “What are you doing?”
“Rolling you over, duh.”
“Why? That’s not how you do this. What are you –”
“Well if you’re a chick I’m gonna roll you over,” Mac says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “I don’t like seeing their front. It wigs me out.”
Dennis blinks. “You don’t like seeing the faces of the girls you bang?”
“It’s not the face so much as the,” Mac gestures vaguely at his own front, and Dennis thinks it’s maybe meant to indicate tits and things that make it clear that Very Gay Mac is fucking a woman.
“Okay, whatever. Just don’t roll me over, okay.”
“But if you’re the girl –”
“Then I won’t be the girl, I don’t care. Just straddle me, it’s important.”
Mac does as he’s told and swings his legs over Dennis waist, settling comfortably at the top of his thighs.
“Now,” Dennis instructs. “Feel how easy that was. And notice how the mattress gives way just the right amount under your knees.”
Mac nods. “Dude, you’re right.”
“And then, when you thrust, the girl – the uh, the other person –”
“A hot chick.”
“Yeah, whatever. The other person, they also get a fantastically sensual experience, because the physics of the mattress are perfectly in tune with the thrusts of an expert sexual partner.”
Mac places his hands either side of Dennis’ head, lifts his hips, and then thrusts down, and repeats several times. “I can see that.”
Dennis notices Mac’s boner, but doesn’t comment on it, because he’s kind of used to that shit by now.
“Um excuse me, sirs,” a voice says from behind them. Mac’s head twists to fix the stop assistant with a scowl. “You can’t, uh – do that on the display mattresses.”
“Buddy, I’m doing your job for you right now,” Dennis rebuts. “Do you want a sale or not?”
The shop assistant doesn’t reply, and just sort of gawks.
“Well, do you? Do you?”
“I mean – I guess so?”
“In that case, you’re welcome. A good mattress needs to be good for plowing, and that’s what I’m perfectly demonstrating to my friend right now. I’ve basically sold him on it, you know?”
“And he’s right,” Mac adds.
The shop assistant doesn’t seem to know how to respond. “You still can’t – I’m going to have to ask you to dismount – to, uh, to get off the bed.”
Mac rolls his eyes, and pushes himself away from Dennis, flopping down next to him.
“Can you believe this asshole?” he asks.
“I know right,” Dennis responds, turning his head to meet Mac’s eyes.
“I think you’re right about this mattress though, dude. Could definitely get some plowing done.”
“If you’re going to make a purchase can you please do so and leave,” the shop assistant begs.
So they buy the mattress, and after an extended argument at the till decide to waive the $100 delivery cost (which is quite frankly extortionate), because there’s no reason they can’t just strap it to the roof of the Range Rover and drive it home. It turns out it’s harder to secure a mattress to the top of a vehicle than initially thought, but after several attempts, and Dennis taking a trip to the hardware store to buy more rope, they’re relatively confident it’s fine.
“So, I was thinking –” Mac starts, staring up at the mattress.
“You’re not riding home on the roof,” Dennis cuts him off, and Mac frowns.
“Why not?”
“That’s so unsafe, on so many levels. And illegal, probably. And not a thing that grown men do.”
“Think of the core strength I’d need to stay holding on. It’s totally manly.”
“I’m not – we’re not having this argument. Just get in the car.”
They’re half way home, and crossing a bridge over the river when Dennis has to swerve to avoid some piece of shit old lady who obviously shouldn’t be on the road.
“Die quicker, you bitch!” Dennis shouts after her red Toyota, for good measure.
By the time either of them realise what’s happening, it’s too late to stop it. There’s a creak, and a snap, and then the mattress is sliding off the roof of the car, and falling into the Schuylkill River. The whole thing seems to happen in slow motion, but Dennis just sits in the driver’s seat of the car and stares like an idiot as his money (Frank’s money) bops languidly under the bridge.
“Oh goddamnit!”
Frank refuses to give them more money for another mattress (I’m not gonna keep bailing you out every time you throw a mattress in the Schuylkill River!) This is how Mac ends up sleeping in Dennis’ bed.
It’s about two weeks into the whole arrangement, when Mac rolls over to Dennis and asks, “So when you fuck in this bed, are you normally on top or underneath?”
“What?” Dennis asks, blinking and looking up from his phone screen.
“I mean, where does the chick normally go.”
“It – it depends. Depends what we’re doing, what role –”
“But you are on the bottom sometimes?”
“Yes. What does this have to do with anything?”
Mac shrugs. “Was just thinking about it.”
The next night Mac asks, “So what about blowjobs?”
“What?”
“Is the mattress any good for getting head?”
“Yes. For giving head too, but – What are you doing? What is this?”
“I miss my mattress, dude. I bet some homeless dudes dragged it out of the river and are going at it right now.”
Dennis frowns, because not only is that an unpleasant image, but Mac’s questions are also completely bizarre.
The next night, Mac restarts the line of questioning. “And so, for handjobs?”
And then the next night. “Do you ever do butt stuff?”
And the next. “What about just for making out, you know?”
It’s then that Dennis can’t fucking take it anymore. He screams, and then he’s kissing Mac. It’s hot and furious, and he isn’t surprised when Mac kisses him back, arches up against Dennis, breaks the kiss to push Dennis’ shirt over his head.
Afterwards, Dennis’ head is resting on Mac’s shoulder, and Mac’s fingers trace the outline of his spine. “The bounce was pretty fucking great, dude.”
Dennis hums. “I told you so.”
“Gotta try it again though. For the scientific method.” Mac’s words are complete nonsense, and Dennis kicks at his ankles to shut him up, but their legs just end up tangled together.
“And facing you was okay and shit too. I didn’t even know dudes could do it facing each other.”
“Oh my god, will you shut up for one second.”
“I’m just saying it wasn’t how I thought it’d be. Also, I’m pretty sure I’m gay.”
“I know you’re gay, Mac. Everyone knows.”
“Hey, you have no way of knowing for sure that I’m gay.”
“Your dick was in my ass like ten minutes ago.”
“Okay, but that doesn’t prove anything, that –”
“Just shut up and go to sleep or I won’t let you fuck me again.”
Mac is silent for a moment, and Dennis thanks God and Jesus and all of Mac’s Catholic Saints because he just wants to go to sleep.
“You so will let me fuck you again,” Mac says.
“I’m not replying to you anymore.”
“I’m gonna give you a blowjob tomorrow morning, so be ready for that.”
“If you don’t let me sleep I won’t be ready.”
Mac seems to find that argument compelling, because he hums and lays a kiss to Dennis’ hair, and whispers goodnight, before mercifully shutting the fuck up. True to his word, Mac gives Dennis a blowjob the next morning, and they’re late to work, because Dennis drags Mac into the shower with him and returns the favour.
By the time they’ve saved up enough for a new mattress, it’s no longer a priority, or even a necessity really, because even with a second bed, there’s no way that Mac is going to extricate himself from Dennis’ space. And that’s just how it goes.

So gay
Pairings: Pipabeth, and minor Caleo
Word count: 1567
Summary:
Basically, it’s just a cheesy Prom AU which I wrote after getting way too into Teenage Dirtbag
Piper was so gay.
That was her only thought as she observed the pretty girl with the curly blond hair sitting a few tables away. She was not staring. No many how much Leo wants to say she is. She's just observing.
“Pipes, this is getting creepy,” Leo said, interrupting her thoughts.
The blonde looked at Piper and she quickly turned her head away.
Piper glared at him “Am I not allowed to look at a pretty girl?” She asked “You are, but you've been staring at her since we sat down” Leo responded, “I bet you’re already planning your wedding.”  Piper blushed
“Oh my god I'm right” Leo laughed.
“What flowers are you gonna have at your venue?” Piper scoffed “You're ridiculous” Leo simply kept looking at her “And I was thinking that she'd have a bouquet of red roses and I'd have one of white”
Leo laughed “You haven't said a word to her!”
“Thanks for reminding me,” Piper said, taking a bite of her mac and cheese.
She looked back up at the girl, she was running her fingers through her curls and her hand got caught in a knot. She tried to untangle the knot but she gave up and braided it. The guy sitting next to her, Percy Jackson, handed her a hair tie.
Piper wondered if they were dating. It made sense, the few times Piper had seen her in the school she was with Percy, and sometimes Thalia Grace was with them before she graduated.
“Do you think she's dating Percy?” Piper asked Leo.
“Why don't you ask her,” Leo said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“I can't do that” Piper responded, also as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“Then I guess you could ask Percy”
“I don't know him, it'd be so awkward,” Piper said, defeated. She rested her chin on the table.
“Well Percy knows everyone, maybe you could ask one of his friends,” Leo suggested.
“Who do we know who's friends with him?” Piper asked
“Jason, Nico, Hazel, Frank, Rachel, Reyna… Calypso” Leo listed, blushing a little as he mentioned his crush.
“Well, how am I supposed to ask someone that” Piper lamented.
“Like this” Leo declared as Jason started walking by their table. “Jason, are Percy and that blond girl dating?” He asked, pointing in Percy's direction.
“Um, I don't think so, that's just his friend, Annabeth,” Jason said.
“Ah, she has a name,” Leo said, turning to Piper, grinning. Piper looked at Annabeth, it suited her.
“She's way out of your league, Leo” Jason stated.
“Trust me, I know. I'm not the one who's interested” Leo replied, wrapping his arms around Piper's shoulders.
“You're the worst,” Piper grumbled.
“Yeah but you love me,” Leo said. He kissed her on the cheek.
Piper snuck a glance at Annabeth. She was watching Piper and Leo. Piper turned her head to get a better look and make sure her eyes weren't playing tricks on her and Annabeth suddenly looked away. Piper grinned
.
                                                      ***
It was prom night and Piper felt desolate. She had tried for to work up the courage to ask Annabeth Chase to be her date for weeks but every time Annabeth so much as said “Hi” to her she'd stiffen up and start awkwardly stutter her way through some small talk.
Piper just stood, leaning against a table. She saw Leo and Calypso talking across the room. At least Leo had the courage to ask her out. Piper walked over to them.
“Hey, Pipes” Leo greeted. “Hi Piper” Calypso greeted. “I like your suit,” Calypso said.
“Thanks, I like your dress” Piper responded. It was true, Calypso made it herself and it complimented her skin tone.
“Any sign of Annie?” Leo asked. Piper shook her head.
“Annie?” Calypso asked.
“Annabeth Chase” Leo clarified. “Oh, the pretty blonde girl, I think I saw her earlier” Calypso said.
The three of them talked another ten minutes and Piper decided not to bother them. She started walking around aimlessly and herself at a table covered in h'orderves and drinks. She was getting herself some punch when a voice behind her said “Piper?”
Piper turned around and there was Annabeth Chase, looking as beautiful as always. She was in a white, floor-length dress and her blonde curls were in a braid. She looked quite elegant compared to Piper, who just wore a suit with the blazer folded over her arm
“Hi” Piper squeaked
“Listen, I wanted to ask you to this dance for weeks and it seems like I was maybe a little late so I'm asking you now,” Annabeth said, way too quickly.
“You want me to be your date?” Piper asked, gob-smacked.
Annabeth nodded. And Piper had the biggest smile growing on her face, she was probably blushing too.
“Okay,” Piper said, “Do you wanna dance or something?”
“Yes but first,” Annabeth said, grabbing something from her bag. “I wanted to give you this,” she said, holding a plastic container with a corsage inside. White ribbons and white roses.
“Oh my god it beautiful” Piper exclaimed. Annabeth took her hand and put it around her wrist, it took a few attempts before it would stay.
The two girls walked to the center of the room and started dancing clumsily, both of them kept trying to lead. Annabeth put her arms around Piper's neck and Piper got a good look at her muscular arms. She almost died right there.
“You're really pretty,” Annabeth said, out of the blue “I was so scared that if I didn't get my shit together someone else would snatch you up.”
Piper blushed “feeling’s mutual.”
The two danced for what felt like hours, talking, getting to know each other, asking stupid questions like “do you believe in Bigfoot.”
Neither of them knew how to dance, they just did what everyone around them did and when the songs started to speed up they were completely lost. They started to wander together, looking for their friends. At one point they ran into Drew Tanaka and Piper used her eyeliner to write her phone number on Annabeth’s arm.
“Piper, I have a phone you know, you could just make a contact,” Annabeth said.
“Shh, this is more romantic” Piper argued. She handed Drew her eyeliner and the girls sat down at a nearby table. Annabeth took a look at her arm.
“I can't read that, your handwriting is terrible and I have dyslexia”
“Well maybe if you didn't squirm so much it'd be clearer.”
Annabeth flipped Piper off, but she was smiling while she did it so it lost all effect. Piper smiled and kissed her cheek.
“Seriously though, us that a one or a seven?” Annabeth asked. Piper looked at her arm “that's a nine”
“see what I mean?” Annabeth asked, placing her phone in Piper's hand. “I'm gonna go get us some punch,” she said, kissing Piper's cheek.
Piper smiled and started typing in her phone number. She tried to think of a silly name to give the contact as Leo and Calypso approached her table.
“Pipes, there you are, you disappeared,” Leo said as he and Calypso sat down. “What have you been doing?” He asked.
“Dancing, drinking shitty punch, normal school dance activities,” Piper said.
“Dancing? With who?” Leo asked.
As if on queue Annabeth arrived as soon as he asked. “I'm back,” she said in a sing-song tone, placing a cup in front of Piper. “Hey Calypso,” She said. Calypso waved.
Piper handed Annabeth her phone and Annabeth raised an eyebrow “Hot-piece-of-ass-McLean?” She asked. “You caught me, that's my real name,” Piper said.
“Wait, you asked out Annabeth Chase? When?” Leo asked.
“I actually asked her out,” Annabeth said.
“And you didn't come tell me immediately? I thought we were friends, Piper” Leo said dramatically.
“It took you like a day to tell me when you asked out Calypso” Piper argued.
“That's irrelevant, this is like Nico not telling me he was dating Will, it's like no one wants me to know they're happy,” Leo said.
“Nico didn't tell you he and Will are dating?” Annabeth asked.
“Not for like 2 weeks, how long did he wait to tell you?”
“Like a day…” Annabeth said.
“I'm telling you it's a conspiracy!” Leo declared.
“Did someone spike the punch?” Calypso muttered.
Near the end of the dance, Piper and Annabeth were discussing going on a date and Piper was officially dead. “How about Monday after school? We can go get dinner or watch a movie or something” Annabeth suggested
“That sounds amazing” Piper replied, although, Annabeth was so mesmeric she could suggest they go to a grocery store and watch the lobsters and Piper would probably say yes.
“I’ve gotta go soon so we'll just sort out the details via texting okay,” Annabeth asked.
“Okay, I'll see you Monday,” Piper said, with a huge smile.
Annabeth reached for Piper's hand and leaned forward and kissed her. Piper thought she would melt into a puddle, it felt so good to kiss Annabeth. Better than she had ever imagined. Piper's lips tingled and she had butterflies in her stomach. Somehow, when they broke apart, Piper's smile grew even bigger. She couldn't wait for Monday.
Piper was so gay.

Agatha is Visiting
Rating: T
Genre: Fluff
Word Count:  2504
Summary: Agatha comes for dinner at the Snow-Bunce flat over a year after the Christmas Incident. Based on the sentence prompt "I was really hoping someone would state the obvious" from @xyalovegood
Read on AO3
AN:  Crowley this is way longer than I expected! But it sort of spun out of control. So this is my take on the "Agatha finds out" story. Hope you all like it :D
Simon
I'm furiously cleaning the flat, Penny is making dinner, and Baz is being absolutely no help.
He’s lounging, with his feet on the coffee table and hands behind his head. I stand between him and the TV on purpose.
“Hey! I'm watching that, Snow!
“Exactly,” I say. “You're watching the news instead of helping me.”
“Keeping up with current events is important, love.”
I kick his feet off the table. He pouts at me in that adorable way he knows I can't resist. I falter slightly, smiling a bit, but no. I will not be budged by my adorable puppy looking boyfriend.
I toss a rag at his face. “Wipe the table, please.”
Baz huffs, but complies. He does it lazily, completely uninterested in the activity.
“I don't know why you're panicking, Snow. You power cleaned this place yesterday. I don't think a single dust mite survived your massacre.”
“Because it has to look spotless! We haven't seen Agatha in over a year and I want stuff to look nice for her.”
Baz raises one eyebrow. “If I were the jealous type, which I'm certainly not, I'd say you were trying to impress your ex. Not looking to win her back, are you Snow?”
He says it with a smirk, but I hear a hint of genuine concern in his voice. I hate seeing him like this, I really do. I lean the mop against the wall, then walk over to him in three long strides. I grab his stupid pretty face and kiss him firmly. He gasps initially, but quickly melts into it. His eyes flutter shut as he moves his mouth against mine. I pull away but I don't let go of his cheeks. His face is a bit flushed and his perfect lips are hanging open. I can feel heat spreading across my own face.
“No, absolutely not,” I say flatly. I'm trying to look determined. (I hope I don't look stupid. Penny says I look weird when I'm trying to be serious.)
He smiles the way he always does when we're being soft. “Good. Glad we've cleared that up, Simon.”
I let my hands fall down, tracing his sharp shoulders and thin arms until I'm holding his wrists.
“Besides, Penny already told Agatha. So she won't even think she has a chance.”
“Um,” Penny yells from the kitchen, “about that...”
“Oh Crowley,” Baz mutters. He gets it immediately. It takes me an extra second.
Then the utter dread sets in.
My blood goes cold. I think my face turns actual sheet white. “You didn't tell her, did you Pen?”
Penelope sticks her head out, fiddling with the “Feminist” apron I got her for Christmas. She smiles sheepishly.
“It never really came up when we texted. And we text so infrequently to start with. So yeah. I'm pretty sure I never told her...”
I lean back against the table and run hand through my already pretty tangled hair.
“Fuck,” I whisper.
“I'm really sorry, Simon! I should've told her, I know.”
“I-It’s fine, Pen. We just...we won't tell her.”
“What?” Baz’s tone is surprisingly flat. He's less angry and more confused. Penny quickly retreats back to dinner. I turn to face him.
“I mean...it's a pretty shocking thing. And Agatha had enough shocking things last time she was in England. So maybe we don't tell her, at least not tonight. If we keep in contact after this, I'll definitely tell her. But this is the first time I've seen her in so long and I really don't want her rage stomping out of here.”
Baz’s lips twist slightly, but he sighs and nods. “Yes, I see your logic. I would prefer her not leaving either, for your sake.” He looks away nervously. “Should...should I leave then?”
I immediately grab his hand, lacing his long fingers with mine. “No! No, I want you here. We'll just say we've become friends after Watford.”
He smiles, and I think my heart melts into my shoes. Or socks, really. (Who wears shoes indoors?)
“Alright,” he says softly.
I lean forward to kiss him again, but a sharp knock jolts me upright. My blood goes cold again. I look at Baz panicked.
“Please put the mop away,” I whisper. Then I kiss his cheek and rush for the door.
I don't know what I was expecting when I opened it, but this seems pretty close. Agatha, still blonde and pretty, but with sun kissed tan skin and wearing a nice sundress. She smiles, and I remember how I use to melt at that. But not anymore. Though I'm still happy. I have missed her a lot.
“Hi Simon,” she says.
“Hi Agatha.” I lean forward and hug her. She hugs me back, but I feel some awkwardness in her embrace. I don't blame her. It's weird seeing your ex after over a year of no contact. Especially considering the circumstances in which she left.
I lead her into the flat, shutting the door behind me. She looks around and nods at it.
“Nice place,” she says.
“Thanks. Pen and I really like it.”
“Where is Penelope?”
“In here!” Penny pops her head out through the kitchen door, grinning ear to ear. “Hi Agatha!”
“Jeez, are you actually cooking, Penelope? I thought you hated it.”
“I do. But letting Simon in the kitchen is asking for a disaster.”
“Hey!” I snap. “I'm a brilliant cook.”
“You make boxed Mac & Cheese most of the time, Simon.”
I turn up my nose. “And it's brilliant Mac & Cheese!”
“My taste buds would disagree, Snow.”
Baz emerges from the utility closet, thumbs hooked in his jean pockets. Crowley, I forgot how hot those jeans are. But I resist the urge to go over and wrap my arms around his torso and sneak my hand into his back pocket, like I usually do.
“Ah,” Agatha says, “hello, Baz.”
“Right!” I sound far too frantic, fuck. “Baz and I have become friends after Watford! Without the Humdrum and civil war, we uh, found we had a lot in common. Thought it'd be nice for you to see another familiar face.” I chuckle nervously. Both Baz and Penny glare at me, telepathically sending the same message. You're fucking up your own plan, you idiot.
Agatha raises an eyebrow, but nods in agreement. “Well that was nice of you to think of that. Pleasure to see you again, Baz.” She offers her hand, and Baz takes it like the amazing gentleman he is.
“Likewise, Wellbelove.”
Their hands fall, and an awkward silence hangs. Crowley this is bad. Agatha is standing between her ex boyfriend and ex crush, who are now dating each other, but she doesn't know that. I'm living in a bad romcom.
“Dinner's done! Simon come help me serve! Baz, please set the table.” Penelope's voice is a wonderful relief
“Thank Merlin,” I whisper. “Coming, Penny!”
Baz and I exchange and meaningful glance. This is not going to be easy. For either of us.
“So how's California?” I make an effort to not talk with my mouth full. Though I'm not exactly succeeding. Penny's glare tells me that.
“Oh it's great,” Agatha says as she gingerly cuts some chicken. “It’s sunny all the time and we eat tacos for lunch a lot. Despite it being ‘frantic’ America, I find it all very clam, actually. I like it a lot.”
“Glad to hear!” I really am. Agatha deserves to be happy.
“How about you, Simon? London treating you well?”
“Pretty well. School has been interesting. I think I might go into social work. Y'know, help kids like me.”
“That's exceedingly noble.”
I point my fork at Baz next to me. “That's what he said. Baz helps me with the maths part of the courses.”
“Going to the London School of Economics makes you pretty good at maths,” he says from behind his hand. He's eating a bit. Just enough so his fangs don't pop out. But he's still cautious.
“And that's why I keep you around.” I smile smugly at him. He rolls his eyes in a very exaggerated way. I really want to lean over and kiss him. But I don't want to spook Agatha. So I just touch his knee against mine. I see some red appear on his cheeks. I hope I'm not blushing as much, because-
“Alright!” Agatha lightly slaps the table, enough to make us jump a bit. We all turn to look at her. “I was really hoping someone would state the obvious.”
“W-What do you mean, Agatha?” Fucking Merlin and Crowley fuck we're screwed.
“You,” she points at me, “are not at all subtle.”
Baz chuckles a bit, (the prat.) Agatha turns her accusatory finger to him.
“Don't act smug, Basilton. You aren't much better. You're blushing like a lovestruck schoolgirl. So tell me, when did this,” she gestures wildly to the two of us, “start?”
I look down at my plate, picking at my nails under the table (nervous tick according to my therapist.) “Around Christmas. Not the last one, but the one before. Y'know...that one. It's a long story. But that's when it started.”
“Before or after Penny and I showed up at Hampshire?”
I sink further into myself. “...before. I know it's shocking but I promise, Baz and I are very happy together. Please don't be upset!”
I expect her to stand up and storm out. Or to yell at me for not telling her. Or worse, to scold me and say I'm a madman. (Which I am, just not about this.)
Instead, she laughs a bit.
I look up. She's chuckling and shaking her head. “Upset? Why would I be upset?”
I'm fucking stunned, obviously. I look at Baz. He looks just as confused. Same for Penny.
“Because, I'm your ex-boyfriend and he's your ex-crush and now we're dating each other and we haven't seen you in over a year!”
Agatha sighs. “Simon, we broke up ages ago. And even when we were together, it's not like we were happy. And Baz was just a silly schoolgirl crush. Sorry Baz.”
“Quite alright. I only flirted with you to get under Snow’s skin. I'm incredibly gay.”
If I were Agatha, I'd be pissed at being used. But Agatha just nods. Just accepting his statement with ease. Maybe it’s a mutual acceptance. They both used each other, I guess.
“So,” I start, “you don't think it's weird?”
“Well, of course it's weird!”
I frown, and Agatha waves her hands back and forth.
“No no. I mean, considering your previous relationship, solely at face value, it's weird. But I guess looking back, I can see how it could end up like this. You were bloody obsessed with each other. It makes sense.”
Penny slams down her fork. “That's what I said!”
Agatha smiles at Penny, then at me. “The most important part is that you two are happy. And you definitely are, right?”
I look at Baz. I think of all I've been through the past year and a bit. Every movie night, every long walk, every lunch, every lazy cuddle, every “sleepless” night, every breakdown and recovery. And how Baz has been there every time, and I want him to keep being there. I can look at his gorgeous face and feel resounding relief, utter joy, and simple contentment all at once.
And from the look he has, I have no doubt he feels the same.
I reach to grab his hand on the table. “Yeah,” I say, “absolutely.”
Agatha gives one solid nod. “Good.”
We all resume eating our food. I haven't let go of Baz’s hand. It makes eating more difficult but I don't care. I'd rather be holding his hand than anything else.
“Besides,” Agatha says, mouth filled with chicken, “I found out about your relationship months ago.”
“WHAT?!”
We're like a bloody choir of simultaneous shock. Penny has dropped her utensils. I choke on some rice. Baz even stands up to slams his hands on the table. Agatha throws back her head laughing.
“Oh the looks on your faces,” she sputters out between giggles. “Priceless!”
“What, the fuck Wellbelove?” Baz is absolutely seething.
“Yeah what the fucking hell Agatha?” I say hoarsely, having nearly died by rice asphyxiation.
Agatha wipes a laughing tear from her eye. “I've known for awhile now. I expected you guys to be open about it. But no, Simon (I assume), cooked up some scheme as to not upset me or something. So since you decided to be cagey assholes, I decided to mess with you a bit. Only a bit though. I’m not a monster. Also I wanted to get some information. I was genuinely curious as to when this all started.”
“B-But how?! Penny, you said you didn't tell her!”
“I didn't!” Penny retorts.
Agatha rolls her eyes. “How else? The internet. I saw your cute pics on Instagram. You're sickenly adorable.”
I furrow my brow. “But, my Instagram is private and I'm sure you didn't follow me.”
“Your's is. Baz’s isn't. I followed him out of sheer curiosity. Lo and behold, there was a photo of you two out for ice cream, with the caption 'best boyfriend got me a waffle cone.’ And seriously Basilton, do you need that many sprinkles? Your sweet tooth is out of control.”
“Baz!” I shout. “Why didn't you tell me she followed you?!”
Baz throws his arms up. “I didn't know! I have over three thousand followers! I don't always check up on new ones.” He slumps back in his chair with a humph.
I hold my head in my hands and groan. “So sorry, Agatha.”
“Oh don't apologize, Simon.”
“But weren't you upset?”
She shrugs. “I mean, I was shocked at first. But what I said before is 100% true. It's a seemingly weird outcome after Watford, but it really does make sense. You two were like fucking magnets. And I'm really glad you're happy. Both of you. You deserve that, after everything.”
I sigh and grin. Even Baz is smiling a bit. I reach out and place my hand over her's. “Thank you.”
She grins back. “You're welcome, Simon.”
Baz merely gives a nod, but she nods back, so I think he got the same message across.
“Now,” Agatha says, “I want to finish this lovely chicken. It's really quite nice, Penny.”
We eat in comfortable silence for a bit. Then Penelope slams her fork down (again).
“Wait,” she says, “why didn't you mention you knew over our texts?”
Agatha shrugs. “It never came up.”
Penny’s mouth hangs open, but Baz and I just burst out laughing. The two girls start arguing about the merits of discussing serious information over text. I let my head fall onto Baz’s shoulder. He puts an arm around me. I feel warm and safe next to him. And I'm glad I can do this in front of both of my oldest friends now.
Crowley, I did not expect the evening to end up like this.
Big thanks to @xyalovegood for the prompt! Had way too much fun with this lol.
I think Agatha is just cruel enough to make them squirm but not enough to actually be mean. Plus she's smart. Even if she didn't know it's not like she wouldn't notice how Baz and Simon act.
Also I like to think Baz has one of those edgy aesthetic Instagrams with tons of followers that gets occasionally (honestly frequently) interrupted by cute photos of/with Simon. Simon's Instagram would be a lot of pretty photos of/with Baz, sometimes of Penny (she hates it), and really artsy pictures of food. May create those in the future :)
