in my mind there lives a suburbs au of mac and cisgirl!dennis where they are trapped in a toxic heterosexual marriage with each other. dennis makes youtube videos about her 20 step housewife morning routine and her paleo diet where she convinces her followers its feminist to not work a 9-5. mac comes home and they dont talk to each other over a bland loveless dinner. dennis cheats with the poolguy. mac also cheats with the poolguy. in this au barbara is still alive and dennis is constantly trying to prove to her mom that she is soooo superior to her gross ugly unmarried failed-actress of a twin sister. she invites her parents over for thanksgiving even though theyre divorced and hate each other and barbara brings her dog that tries to kill mac and frank brings his new best friend charlie (who was macs best friend before dennis forced them to stop hanging out) and dee crashes the event even though dennis didnt invite her and its an absolute disaster that ends with food on the walls and dennis and mac drinking themselves to death in separate corners of the house

Hi! I’m in love with your Gilmore Girls fics, and I was wondering if you could shed some insight into your writing process/how you write fics, such as the most recent one that was 100k+ in word count? Huge fan! Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Usually I’ll get an idea - either by coming up with one, one being suggested to me, etc. - and it’ll nag at me for a while, which typically involves pestering @marlahey with comments and questions and research until I inevitably realize I’m invested and need to write it out.
In the case with the Yale AU, I had a rough idea of how I wanted to start from the jump: Rory and Jess never meeting back in season 2, which helped with figuring out what that meant for the start of the story (Rory and Dean likely never break up without having Jess be a catalyst, how Jess while remaining in NYC managed to not only get through high school, but succeed enough to get a full ride to Yale). After that, and this is something I’ve done will all my AUs - Sense8, Cisgirl!Jess, Chilton, Yale - I’ll rewatch the seasons I need to in order to refresh my memory and also inspire me. Usually there's spite involved in some capacity, which I think is most evident in Yale AU in particular with changing Lane's trajectory.
I’ll form a sort of outline using canon events as a guide, write in order for a while until I inevitably skip ahead and write future scenes that I work to bridge them. Then it’s just about rereading, rewriting, and adding bits to flesh out the story.
Then I send to @marlahey and apologize for my grammar and also, over the last few years, for the word count I dump on her.

Not really my favourite stupid bullshit but defo a stupid bullshit discourse!....actually it's just me blabbering here because I am too shy to spam my friends in DMs and discord servers....
Dying and coming back wrong. Gosh, I LOVE this trope. So much. Eyris did that, Airell did that, my Trahearne lives AU did that. And it's all Airell's fault. I love tormenting my sonboy (gender neutral) ok. Also fun fact Freya would be the only one to survive 1v1 with Balthy. Nia survived only because it was 2v1 (2 means her and Eyris)
Also this is a joke: brb im making Airell a cisgirl because the number of people who mistake him for such keeps growing at a worrisome rate.
Also fun fact, I used in-game Eyris to change my nickname because previously I was known as [redacted], which was pretty weeb-y. And I have some really bad associations with that group, sadly... so I used her to rebrand. And tbh... I never felt more comfortable in a "new skin" than I do now.
Next! I absolutely fucking love AUs. The drama but make it in a different setting. The drama but this character is somebody completely different. I mean, whatever you can think of - I have it!! Mostly I subject Airell to this hell. My fictional child must hate me, lol.
Speaking of fictional children (am I the only one to whom this sounds wrong?), I think I will somehow get my [redacted] Risha into some different setting so I can have more fun with him. Develop him some more. For now I am rotating him around like a frog on a vinyl. I want to talk about him but all the people who know his source universe (this is how badly i dont want that community to think im cringe so i dont mention the name hhhh) already know everything about him and I am not going to spam them with the same shit over and over, right.
I mean i already do that with Airell with some people and that must be annoying.
MOVING ON, I am expecting my bow to arrive SOON. like... idk. Between 13-18 July. Or so the store told me. Im so excited. Life is good. It also seems im going to get this job I applied for so aaaa life is good. Now I only need to go back to my comic....which turns out harder than I expected. But hopefully I will have it finished by the end of July.
So...yeah. stupid bullshit time over, i guess.

Hi, this is not to cause trouble but as a trans person I find it harmful to erase queens identities, even in works of fictions. Don't make a trans woman cis or otherwise not how she identifies. I just think it's harmful and quite honestly, a bit hurtful
Hey anon! I don't think most authors do that? At least not intentionally. But writing fanfic is also intended to be a fun hobby, so not everyone does tons of research. Additionally, many fics are written in a way that doesn't explicitly say what the character's assigned sex at birth is, which leaves things open to interpretation. That's why, for example, we use the tag "lesbian au" exclusively now and not "cisgirl au" anymore, because most of the time it actually has no bearing on the story and so people are able to imagine the characters however they wish.
I would also ask you to keep in mind that identities for most people, including queens, are not fixed and unchanging for their whole lives, but rather get updated periodically to reflect their current reality. A fic that accurately reflected someone's identity/pronouns two years ago can easily become "wrong" later on, and we (well, I) don't have the resources to police that even if I wanted to. Which I don't. Instead, I always just assume that every writer is doing/has done their best with the information they have and is telling a story that is personally meaningful to them.
Also, as someone who's been in this fandom for almost 7 years, I can honestly tell you that I've never met a writer here who doesn't have the very best of intentions and a sincere love for the queens we write about. On top of that, this is a queer fandom where people often (almost always) infuse their writing with their personal struggles and experiences with gender and sexuality--so making rules that they can't do that feels a lot more restrictive and potentially hurtful than asking you to scroll past a story you don't like.
That said, if there is a current or very recent fic that you're specifically concerned with/feel is hurtful, feel free to DM me @veronicasanders and we can discuss it more. (Or, if the author has written "concrit welcome" in the tags, you can of course send in another ask, as long as it's phrased constructively.) 💞

The Course of True Love (Jalaska) - Puppy
A/N: Wow, this was fun. I’d like to thank the mods for this challenge for me to dip my toes into the world of fic writing for this fandom. Back to logistic things. The title comes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as do most of the quotes in this story. This is a high school AU where Alaska is a cis girl who uses she/her pronouns, while Jinkx is nonbinary and uses they/them. Bold and italicized words under quotations are direct text from the script.
“You realize laying your face in the book won’t make the information come faster, right?” Alaska was met with a grumble and a middle finger thrust in her direction from her redheaded friend. “It’s not like we have to be off-book by tomorrow or anything…”
Jinkx sat up from their slouched position and was tempted to throw her copy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at their scene partner, but they refrained from doing so. “But it FEELS like it, Lasky.”
“We can meet Sunday too if it makes you feel any better?”
“That might help, but I thought you mentioned something earlier about babysitting earlier.”
“Cory texted me a few minutes ago saying he could cover for me. I’m glad he listened this time when I told him I had a big assignment due.” Both students let out a sigh of relief as they delved back into Shakespeare. “Wanna start now?“
“I guess so.” Jinkx responded, hopping out of their chair. “And we’re on…”
“Act 2 Scene 1. We can start at my line again.” Alaska followed her and leaned on the wall opposite Jinkx. “Ill met by moonlight, proud Titania.” She followed with a laugh befitting a king of the fair folk.
“What, jealous Oberon?—Fairies, skip hence. I have forsworn his bed and company. I’d never forswear your bed or company…” They added under her breath, but loud enough for a certain someone to hear.
Alaska’s face temporarily turned beet red. By gods, they said that with such confidence and… energy. And the additional comment She thought nothing more of it as she continued with her lines. “Tarry, rash wanton. Am not I thy lord?”
“Then I must be thy lady- Yes! I got through that without cringing! Woot WOO!” Jinkx did a small happy dance then stopped, realizing Alaska had been watching her little spurt of energy. “I mean considering I’m… not a lady and all.”
“Jinkx! I think I figured out why you’ve been so off book so lately.”
“I’m not that bad, give it a bit…”
Alaska playfully rolled her eyes and went back to the text. The blonde was a little surprised at how off-book she was the more they rehearsed, and a little more about how her friend was completely out of it. She’d seen them in class. Their scenes with the actor playing Bottom went swimmingly, but when it was just them two, things went awry. There was a lot more banter between them, like a contest to see who can break character the fastest. These two were unstoppable.
“..No night is now with hymn or carol blest. Therefore the moon, the governess of floods, pale in her anger… pale in her anger… pale…” Jinkx hesitated for a while, then grabbed their script again to look over what the next lines were, “Goddammit, I got it last time! Why now? Why did I have to screw up two nights before we’re supposed to be off book?!”
“Have you tried dissecting what Shakespeare was trying to say with that?” Alaska picked up her own script and glanced over Titania’s monologue. “Damn, I didn’t realize how much you had your first scene.”
“As if you don’t have anything longer. At least I spend a few scenes asleep…”
“Well, at least I’m offstage for those scenes.”
“Touché… “
“So anyway, back to this Shakespeare shit. What did he mean when writing these things?”
Jinkx stared at the page a bit before formulating their answer. “Well, my whole monologue is saying climate change is immanent and it’s all your fault. Oberon’s, not yours as in Alaska’s.”
“As if there’s a difference,” The horse-faced girl joked, wanting to bring her shorter friend into an embrace.
Jinkx wiggled their way out of the embrace, stepping out of the way. “You shouldn’t have said that; it’s making things worse. I don’t want to think of you as this shitty person.”
“Wait a sec… does this mean-”
“Alaska Honard, I like you. Romantically.”
“Really?”
“I was flirting with you just a while ago, and you say I’m the dense one?!”
Alaska was speechless. Things were starting to come together in her brain, but what if part of this was temporary? Maybe it would go away once they weren’t romantic leads anymore… She took a deep breath and stepped away from her scene partner. “Let’s continue with the scene. Where were we?”
“We can skip my monologue if you want… Get back to it tomorrow?”
“That sounds good to me.” She tightened her ponytail and slipped back into the role. “Do you amend it then. It lies in you. Why should Titania cross her Oberon?” The girl snaked her arms around Jinkx and lightly swayed them to and fro. They leaned into the touch accordingly. At that moment, Alaska froze. “Why should… Why should I cross you?”
She let go and faced her scene partner for a minute or so. They couldn’t stop staring. Even as she stepped towards Jinkx Monsoon, she couldn’t stop staring at them. How could she have been so foolish?
Sooner than later, she closed the gap and their lips met.

is it just me or are the words “biological woman” when referring to queens positively like.. mildly transphobic, at best? like “she’s a BIOLOGICAL WOMAN!” “nothing to see here, just a biological woman!” like ok maybe i’m reading too much into it (also i am not a trans woman so pls correct me if this isn’t right) but like. the implication that that is the standard to strive for? both in terms of the weight placed on “passing,” whatever that means, as well as the idea of cis women being “real” women. i dunno. thoughts?
