can we make jack to the future a copypasta
Hey guys! Very excited about today’s video. A huge thanks to Lenovo for giving me their amazing brand-new phone, the Phab 2 Pro: The world’s first phone with Tango*. Which kinda feels like a piece from the future just dropped right here in the present. And that’s exactly why I decided to make a very special time-travel episode of jackask.
Question 1: “Do you believe in the possibility of time-travel?” I literally just said that this is the time-travel episode of jackask. Please try to keep up. punches ground beef
Question 2: “If you could go back in time, what’s one thing you’d change about your childhood?” Well, I would probably confront my middle school bully and tell him I grew up to be a big YouTube star. Of course, then he’d be all like, “what’s a YouTube?” You know what, that question sucks, next question.
Question 3: “Would you travel to the past of the future?” Listen up, HoOLiGanLLaMA, I’m about to blow your mind. takes bite of burger Mm, that’s good meat. So I’m taking my Phab 2 Pro with me to travel through space and time in my own personalized, home-built time machine. Purple, red… Oh yeah, green one, that’s good, I think that’s good… Lemme measure with my phone real quick. Okay, measuring the dimensions with Tango’s AR measurement tools to make sure everything lines up. Looks good. OPEN! throws chair against tree Let’s go! Just so you know, time travel is not instant. So while we’re waiting, how about I just answer some of your questions?
“How do I tell my parents that I’m goth?” What you can do is travel to the future where, uh, you outgrow your goth phase. Boom, problem solved.
“How many stars are in our galaxy?” Good question. To find out, we’re gonna go all the way back to 1590 to ask the man himself, Galileo. screams Galileo: If only we could see the heavens instead of relying on our mind’s eye. Jack: Whoa, shut up for a sec. I think I can help you guys out. Galileo’s Associate: ¡El diablo! J: No, it’s actually called ‘augmented reality,’ it lets me see a fully scaled model of the solar system. The sun, the Big Dipper, the Little Skipper, the Unicorn, the Unicran, some other ones… Oh, really quick, do you guys know how many stars are in our galaxy? You know what, I’ll just look it up. Thanks anyway, bye! G: He was a bit of a jerk, wasn’t he?
“What is your favorite video game?” Not really a fan of the new ones, I don’t really have the fingers for ‘em, so let’s go all the way back to 1972 to play the first video game.
J: Hey guys! What are we working on?
Guy with Glasses and Mustache: Well, I don’t mean to brag, but we’ve created something revolutionary. You see, this rectangular paddle hits this round circular ball, and then that ball travels across this empty black space where it meets up with… another paddle! Haha!
J: That’s really tight, guys, and you’ll be happy to hear that you helped pave the way for AR games. Check this out
Woman with Glasses: What is it?
J: It’s the future. So, you’re trying to hit this target.
WG: Where are the cords?
J: No cords. Here, look.
WG: Honey, we should get one of these!
“What do you think it will be like in the year 2150?” Ugh, finally! A good question! Let’s go to the future where people can finally wrap their minds around this crazy technology! It’s time to go Jack to the future! record scratch Get it? Uh, Jack to the future, it’s-it’s a pun on a famous movie, uh, where Simba loses his dad, um, wait… yeah, that’s right, yeah.
J: Oh my gosh, you must be my great great grandson!
Jacksfilms Look-Alike with White Hair: Get out of my home.
J: Let’s grab a picture of the handsome boy, huh?
JLAWH:
No. J: Just gotta add a dragon, and boom! It’s pretty cool, right, little dragon popping up and everything. You body language says ‘yes’.
JLAWH: No.
J: Not a little?
JLAWH: Nuh-uh.
J: Not even a little?
JLAWH: …No.
J: Yeah, no, I-I’m busy too, I gotta get back to my time machine. It was really cool catching up, hehe! Call me! Or, you kn- aw, it doesn’t work like that. Uh, call me anyway, man.
All in all, that was a pretty good trip. Oh, and Lenovo, thanks for the free phone, not giving it back, hehe. runs into lighting equipment Not paying for that! Not paying for that! Not my problem!

3 whumpy anime to check out this spring!
Tumblr media
Go Go Loser Ranger is a heroes vs. villains anime where the villains are the good guys and the heroes are downright evil. Having wiped out all the powerful monsters more than a decade ago, the heroes keep the weakest monsters captive, to parade around and torment on a weekly basis while the public believes otherwise. Because they're immortal when hit with most weapons, they'll always reform to be hurt over and over again, despite feeling all the pain.
Footsoldier D is one of those weak monsters, an immortal shapeshifter made of dust, called a "duster". After escaping the heroes' arena, he forms a plan to kill the heroes and steal the few weapons they have that can permanently kill dusters, freeing the rest of his kind. Given that he has the constitution of a porcelain doll, he can't use strength to fight: he has to rely on wits, stealth, shapeshifting (despite knowing very little about humans or the outside world), and a shaky alliance with a double-agent ranger who seems to be taking advantage of him for her own gain.
Whump tags: villain whumpee, hero whumper, immortal whumpee
Watch it on Hulu, Disney+, or any unofficial anime site.
And if you don't have time to check out a whole anime, the Go Go Loser Ranger opening theme video is also really good, with fantastic visuals symbolizing D's struggles!
Tumblr media
An Archdemon's Dilemma is a romantic comedy stuffed to the brim with popular whump tropes. Zagan is a demonic sorcerer who attends an auction for the possessions of another recently-killed sorcerer, when he sees that one of those "possessions" is an elf slave, Nephelia. Having had a destitute, harsh past himself, he feels a rush of sympathy and buys her way out, vowing to ensure her safety. However, Nephelia is terrified, believing she's about to be used as a sacrifice in a dark magic ritual. And unfortunately for both of them, Zagan is a socially awkward loser who sucks at communicating.
It's surreal seeing something that looks like it could be a caretaker-new-master whump fic as an actual, fully-realized anime. It definitely doesn't take itself too seriously despite the premise, leaning heavily on the "comedy" part of romantic comedy, and is mostly just a silly time with lots of whump-adjacent stuff thrown in. Fanfic-y to the point of "there's only one bed" being an actual line.
Whump tags: fantasy slavery (very pet-whump-esque in its tropes), caretaker new master
Watch it on Crunchyroll or any unofficial anime site.
Tumblr media
The Grimm Variations is an anthology of horror retellings of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales. With each episode being written and directed by different people, it varies wildly in quality, with episodes ranging from laughably bad to incredibly good, but I'm here to talk about episode 2: Little Red Riding Hood.
The Little Red Riding Hood takes place in a dystopian future where the upper and middle class use virtual reality technology to augment their reality. One man, Grey, is tired of this and craves the real: specifically, the feeling of real blood spraying him as he murders countless women, his wealth and connections protecting him from consequences. But when this serial killer makes the mistake of targeting a woman called Scarlet, he finds himself on the other side of the knife. This episode is a complete and utter gorefest with multiple onscreen torture scenes.
This isn't even my favorite episode of the series, it's like my 3rd favorite. But episode 2 is the one with the gruesome torture scene, so it's the one that goes in this post.
Little Red Riding Hood whump tags: whumper-turned-whumpee, torture, gore
Little Red Riding Hood warnings: sexual assault, eye gore, fingernail gore, violence against women, major character death
Watch it on Netflix or any unofficial anime site. Orrrr if you just wanna watch the big torture scene without any of the context, it's on Youtube.
that's all I have for now :)
(P.S: Dungeon Meshi, while not really whumpy as a whole, is also currently airing and very very good and I might write whump fanfic for it at some point in the near future. Netflix or any unofficial anime site.)

Yo, good luck with your new blog! Can I have a short scenario about David Martinez being rejected by his obsession after he chromed up? After Maine died and all?
------------
Thank you! I hope I won’t disappoint with this little scenario. I hope you like it none the less!
-------------
David Martinez
Tumblr media
The rain fell relentlessly, each droplet weaving a chaotic melody on the streets of Night City. In the midst of this downpour emerged a mysterious figure, a presence with an allure that bewitched David Martinez from the moment their paths crossed. The city's rain-soaked streets painted a vivid backdrop to their meeting, amplifying the intrigue and danger that characterized the cityscape surrounding them.
David recalled that encounter vividly, as if etched into his memory like a permanent scar.
He approached you first, asking you out for a drink out of the blue. Against your instincts, you accepted his invitation for a drink, although demanding your choice of venue. He accepted.
Soon, friendship blossomed, kindling his protective instincts and igniting emotions that ran even deeper.
Not long after that however, Maine died. You don’t know how, but what you could tell was that the way he’d died had a great impact on David. And it eventually showed as he suddenly disappeared out of the picture for about a year. He quickly delved into the darkest recesses of a certain underground clinic as the days passed by, trading pieces of his humanity for the cold embrace of cybernetic enhancements.
But with all the pain he’d lived through as result, he never though that pouring out his confession to you would actually be the one thing that’d eventually torment his mind the most after he’d suddenly called up to meet up with you. Even more so than the deaths of any of his loved ones.
“I do not want to be with you.” the words reverberated louder in David’s thoughts than the clamor from the familiar crowded bar behind them, drowning even the persistent rain that had characterized every moment since he met you. But the words that follow were even worse.
“You think you’re special, but you’re really not,” you downright growled at him, your voice tinged with an otherworldly blend of anger and concern. David's eyes widened, caught off guard by your harsh words. He stammered, searching for a different kind of response, but you continued instead, your frustration palpable.
"You've made yourself an unchangeable, ticking timebomb, David," you sighed heavily, your frustration giving way to a hint of sadness. "One day, somewhere, triggered by something, you'll start losing it. Gradually, and then all at once." Your glare returned to the same intensity it had before. "And I don't want to be there to witness that."
David was speechless, the weight of your words sinking deep into his soul. The rain continued to pour, a relentless reminder of the harsh reality. You turned and disappeared through the rainfall, quickly disappearing out of his sight. He didn’t find the voice to call after you.
The chrome upgrades, the Sandevistan at the very center of it all, finally consumed him as your words sunk in to the deepest point, twisting his once noble intentions into something sinister. As he emerged from the shadows about a month later, David confronted you near your home, his body exuding an intimidating aura. His eyes glowed with an unnatural hue, an eerie reflection of the cyberpsycho he had become over that period of time.
The tremble in your voice resonated through the cold air as you confronted him on your doorstep. "Why are you here?" you inquired, eyes fixed on the cybernetic man who lingered just beyond the porch's edge.
"To make you reconsider," David responded, his voice tinged with desperation.
"I can't," you assert, a shiver coursed through you. "There's blood on your hands, David."
"[Y/N]," David's voice quivered, a haunting blend of longing and desperation, "Everything I've done, every augmentation, every sacrifice, every life taken, it was all to prove my worthiness of your love. But I see it now. You never comprehended the depths of my devotion."
His words lingered in the air, a chilling revelation echoing between you both.
Fear flickered in your eyes as you stepped back, realizing the extent of David's transformation.
Sensing it, he reached out, his mechanical grip closing in on you. Your heart raced with a mix of terror and regret, realizing the monster you had inadvertently created.
He grabbed you by the arm and pulled. You screamed in shock, in frightened awe by the little strength it took for him to lift you up from your feet before hauling you towards the back of a van he parked at the back.
He threw you inside of it, hitting your back with a dull thud as lines of code started to blur your vision.  As he loomed over you, his voice held an eerie determination and a disturbing certainty of future love.
“I don’t care that you’ve rejected me today as well. But one day, you’ll see I’m different. Better. Prove to you that I can handle the chrome, and that I can protect you from any harm that may come your way.”
His chocolaty eyes drifted downward towards your lips, and he ran a finger alongside the curve of your jaw. You’re too shocked to even move.
“You’ll learn to love me back eventually. I’ll make sure of that.”

Drama Gossip: The Spirealm (致命游戏)
Tumblr media
Source: Google Images
It started off peculiarly; first, his domestic cat refused to let him cuddle it. Lin Qiushi soon found that a sense of disharmony and incongruity began to pervade everything around him. Then, one odd day, he pushed open a door, and he discovered that the hallway he was familiar with turned into a boundless corridor. At both ends of this corridor were twelve, identical iron gates. Thus, the story began.

Action, Adventure, Augmented Reality? Sign Me Up!
I do not consume everything that has the 'entering a virtual game with real life consequences' plot-line but when I do, I more or less will enjoy them. The Spirealm is exactly that plot-line and after just finishing 19th Floor (another Chinese drama with similar concept), I was expecting more and hoping for lesser disappointment.
This drama did not disappoint at all. Lets first talk about the roles and the cast. Brilliant job on the casting, everybody pulled off their role so wonderfully, it felt like they were made for their roles. As for the characters these actors portrayed, wow. I haven't been obsessed with a fictional Chinese character in such a long time but Ruan Lan Zhu is so easy to be obsessed with. The writing was brilliant because I very quickly grew attached to the main people and when shit hit the fan, yeah, I felt everything as if I was a part of them.
Spoilers going on from here so if you haven't watched the show, go and watch it now, please?
As I was saying, I was so attached to some of the characters, I really, wow... Say Li Dong Yuan first. I actually already was spoiled with his death, I even knew which door was going to cause his death yet when it happened, I physically gasped. Then his farewell scene came about and goodness gracious, Xiao Zhuang's reaction was absolutely heart-wrenching. It really did not help that right before getting stabbed, the door Dong Yuan went through for Ling Ling was one of the most entertaining and comedic doors.
After that Zao Zao's death? She was already trying her best in the real world, she tried her best in the spirealm. She gave one of the best speeches ever. Yet that chandelier... I never hated chandeliers as much as I do now.
That's the thing about The Spirealm. This show has plenty of heartbreaking scenes but at the same time, it has a bunch of hilarious scenes too. You really can go from laughing one second and then depressed the next. Exactly like when Cheng Yi Xie sacrificed himself for his brother? One second I was laughing at Lan Zhu begging for Ling Ling's forgiveness and suddenly I was pissed but before I could even get real mad, I was hit with a broken heart. This may sound like a complain but the roller coaster of emotions made this drama ten times more interesting than other dramas.
Moving on to the game or doors or levels (however you want to call them). I really, really enjoy shows with this concept but many a times, the stakes just aren't high enough. Not The Spirealm though. I mean, look at Dong Yuan, Zao Zao and Yi Xie. They are part of the main leads and that world did not go easy on them. As much as I hate that they died, I really appreciated the high stakes in this drama. It made watching the show so much more worth it.
Anyhow, despite thoroughly enjoying this drama, I have so many questions. First things first, did I miss the significance of the necklace Lan Zhu gave Ling Ling during the first door?
Also (this is not that important by the way), when the time comes, the players have no choice but through the door. We've watched Ling Ling enter his doors plenty a time. Now tell me how did Wu Qi survive?
I may be someone who loves an ambiguous ending but if the theory that everything was not real is in fact real, I hate it. Yet, everything being a part of Ling Ling's dream or "hallucination" does make sense, as much as I hate it. Remember where Ling Ling walked into upon completing the first door? He entered the door in the middle of the road and exited it into his house? The discrepancies started right from the beginning. Which (if I did not miss anything) might explain the lack of significance behind the necklace. It will also explain why Ling Ling's time between each door is never long yet Wu Qi's not worried about his next door when he witnessed Dong Yuan's death? Or that Chen Fei's advancement is so much slower than Ling Ling. Furthermore, I'm supposed to believe the crew learnt about a mysterious man who helped Xiong Qi reunite with Xiao Ke in the spirealm and they did not investigate more?
I really do hate the everything was not real theory but I also cannot deny it's the most reasonable one. There was another theory I chanced upon on Douyin a while back and have since forgotten most of the information. However, I like that theory a lot even though it was quite farfetched. Long story short, the user theorised that after Lan Zhu walked into the portal and cleaned the program, Ling Ling woke up and regained consciousness after being hit, right? That's not reality but the 12th door and the door god for this last door is Lan Zhu. That was all I remember but the user did provide explanations and timestamps for their theory and upon reading it, it did make sense too. Therefore, if I ever come across that video again, I will link it here.
In the meantime, let's wallow in the conclusion of The Spirealm. It was a quick and short ride but an extremely memorable one.
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5/5)

Game Review: Crosscode
Tumblr media
Imagine if you were playing an Augmented Reality Multiplayer Online RPG but instead of actually playing an Augmented Reality Multiplayer Online RPG you played as a character who was playing an Augmented Reality Mulitplayer Online RPG? Welcome to Crosscode, an absolute BANGER of a RPG and the single game I’ve been obsessed with for the last two months or so.
Story:
Tumblr media
Meet Lea, an amnesiac playing through the Augmented Reality game of Crossworlds to relearn her memories. Through the story, you meet incredibly fun characters and explore a gorgeous futuristic world, uncovering the secrets of your past and figuring out who you are in the present. This game’s got some twists and turns that kept me gripped the whole way through. I wanted to squeeze every dialogue option out of all the characters I met to learn everything about them that I could. Man this game has a story that’s so rich and plentiful I feel like I’m wallowing in a five-star course. I love a good lore-filled game.
Gameplay and Controls:
Tumblr media
As Lea, you travel through a 2D RPG, exploring new places, solving puzzles, and fighting monsters to level up! The world is vast and well-designed, the puzzles are immaculate, but one of the most fleshed out parts of this game is its combat system. I’m usually more a puzzle gameplay person than a combat one but man the combat just feels good. The enemies are interesting and varied, you’ve got an extensive amount of control over how to build the character that you want to play, and its super satisfying to go back to earlier levels that you’ve toiled through and just fucking disintegrate every enemy in your path. And there’s accessibility options too, for both the combat aspect of the game and the puzzle aspect!
Sound:
Tumblr media
The music is a treat and is very intuitive to the mood of the story and the environment, But also, past that, just the sounds in general are great too. I didn’t realize what a treat it was for certain attacks to sound so nice until I was using them. There are places in the game where the waterfall effects are a bit too loud, but other than that, the game is just really nice to listen to.
Art:
Tumblr media
Crosscode’s got a nice pixel style which lends a special charm to the game, almost calling back to older games with its style while making a story about a futuristic gaming environment. The only gripe I have with this style is that, due to its 2D nature, it can be hard to gauge perspective sometimes which can make platforming a bit tricky.
Playable, Replayable, or Unplayable?
God, there is so much in this game to do. It’s worth playing it, it’s worth going back and replaying it. For an indie game, it’s so richly made and there’s so much love put into it that I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re looking into this game, I’d HIGHLY recommend also yoinking the “A New Home” DLC, which offers a whole-ass epilogue chapter. And if you’re not sure if it’s the right game for you, try the free demo out! Man, I love this game. 10/10.

I talk plenty about how much I like r/AskHistorians, but have I talked about how much r/AskPhilosophy bugs me sometimes? Well basically it's full of people who are extremely -brained of various sorts. I don't even mean the question askers; yes, the sub is full of -brained pattern-believing received-narrative-implicit-accepting askers who couldn't suspend judgement on a proposition if they were hanging over a bottomless pit and judgement was a counterweight and the proposition was a rope swung over a sturdy oak branch and hooked to their lapel, the only the thing holding them back from falling to their inevitable demise. BUT that's not what I take issue with. I take issue with academics who actually respond there, they are very frequently deeply uncreative, and appear thoroughly enmeshed in the worst aspects of academia's managerialist culture.
"A flatworm doesn't have a concept of personal identity"...
First, how can you know that? I mean, yeah, my guess would be that it probably doesn't, but I'm not gonna go around staking metaphysical claims on it.
Second, man, I have a concept of personal identity and I'm looking at a flatworm. So I can apply my concept to the worm and get interesting results. That's called fucking around with ideas and it's what your whole field is supposed to be.
"Let's try to make the thought experiment more elaborate, that will help. Imagine a person who has been augmented with flatworm DNA [...]"
No, no! The interesting thing about the flatworm example is that it's real, one flatworm cut in half actually can regenerate into two. So your ideas are forced to come up against actual reality, or admit they don't have anything to say about actual reality (well, at least in this case, which I suppose is a priori not a problem but is disappointing). It's not a thought experiment, it's an actual experiment! That's what makes it especially interesting!
All in all, OP's initial question was admittedly somewhat -brained and framework-having and thing-believing, which is to be expected. But I thought it would at least prompt some interesting discussion! But no, alas, the academic is too feeble a creature for that.
No one is going to really get me on this I think, really feel me ya know, but if yorick was here he would understand I'm pretty sure.

I like your writing it makes me feel a certain type of way.
Also what's your FNAF au about?
Tumblr media
Thank you anon!
@chisksblog my FNaF AU isn't too unlike canon, though it has a lot of focus on the Afton family because I'm crazy about their story. The big things changed are generally more accuracy to real life animatronics of the era, with each animatronic character having written-in personalities and lore that then intersects with the missing children. Fazbear Entertainment has "lore" of its own (akin to the CEC characters) in universe that kind of blurs the missing kids' reality at the edges.
Speaking of which, the missing children's info is as follows:
Charlotte "Charlie" Emily, 9 years old, died 10/31/1982. Possesses The Marionette. Elizabeth Nora Afton, 10 years old, died 4/13/1983. Possesses Circus Baby. Cassidy Blair Afton, 9 years and 6 days old, died 6/28/1983. Possesses Fredbear. Susie Ann Miller, 10 years old, died 7/02/1985. Possesses Chica. Jeremy Young, 5 years old, died 7/23/1985. Possesses Bonnie. Gabriel Lowe, 7 years old, died 7/23/1985. Possesses Freddy Fazbear. Francesca Claudette "Fritz" Oliveira, 11 years old, died 8/01/1985. Possesses Captain Foxy.
The other three who died and possess the other Funtimes I'm not certain on, or if they even really exist. I'll.. I'll figure that out.
When it comes to Security Breach and stuff, that's where things get very, very different. Technically, my main fnaf AU doesn't involve HW/SB/Ruin, that's a different thing entirely (I call that au "security-singularity breach" or scsib for short).
In ScSiB, Gregory isn't entirely a . y'know, homeless orphan. Actually, he has a full family- parents and two older sisters- twins, actually. His parents split before his birth though, and his father left with his older sister Vanessa, leaving him and Valentine. After losing Vanessa, their mother became the person that she was said to be by their father to get custody of Ness- neglectful, emotionally abusive, and suicidal. Valentine and Gregory both became self-sufficient, and Gregory became cold and bitter where Valentine became irreverent and overly positive to mask a sense of insignificance. Once Vanessa moves out of her father's house, she tries to become a part of Gregory's life, to little success due to Gregory's very avoidant attachment style and suspicion.
Valentine is the one to get taken over by Glitchtrap, but she ropes both of her siblings into it subtly. As Valentine starts appearing more like Vanessa, Gregory becomes completely lost in who and what he can trust. His only comfort is spending all his time at the Pizzaplex, because he has a couple of friends there and he gets in free on a family discount. He considers Freddy his friend, and this is vitally important. As he becomes more uncertain of his safety in his home life, he tries to reach out to Freddy, who is just receptive enough for Gregory to keep trying little by very little. Valentine models her persona after both herself and her sister to continue implicating Vanessa so it stays between them, and she names it V.A.N.N.Y.- Virtual Augmentation Neural Network Yield. The suit is partially mechanized and works off of the V.A.N.N.I. system from Ruin.
On Halloween of 2020 (I don't like that SB canonically takes place in like 2045. sorry), V.A.N.N.Y. is forced to really start acting out Glitchtrap's will, and to cut her off from any emotional connection, Glitchtrap instructs her to kill her parents and Gregory. She successfully kills her parents, but Gregory escapes. He is presumed by most to have killed his parents and run away. Glitchtrap is not happy that she fucked up, but this was partially a move to protect her brother by putting him in a place where Vanessa would feel she had absolutely no choice but to protect him for her, even though they're not close. She puts the responsibility of Gregory's safety on Vanessa, but Gregory doesn't trust her.
The only person that Gregory trusts- aside from Cassie, who doesn't believe Gregory is a murderer- isn't really a person, but Freddy. Freddy is the only person Gregory feels like isn't hiding something from him. This turns out to be very wrong, as Freddy isn't really Freddy, but Michael Afton, trying to stop anything awful from happening again by protecting Gregory at any cost.
Which is a difficult task when the kid you're trying to protect keeps insisting on putting himself in the way of a murderer with the intention of "saving" her.

Well, since I was named in a branch off of @max1461 's post,
[ @tropylium ]
I even keep wondering, is it just because I'm here and the actual seriousness only happens on other platforms? e.g. the ratsphere has EA sites and LessWrong and Wordpress blogs and so on. but it's then unclear to me about many other people if they have any interest in being serious, in the sense of having skin in the game and goals not yet achieved, anywhere at all. Argumate Disease, I could call it — he's clearly the most prominent example, even if probably not the most egregious. also fwiw the most prominent counterexample that occurs to me might be Mitigated Chaos, they've a style that's still shitposty at times but at least not making it their main axis and clearly trying to achieve things even here. (but in the end, I wouldn't know, nobody ever tells me anything; which I kinda resent but I'm not sure how much I should exactly, if it's me specifically for some reasons, or the same for most of us)
[ @the-grey-tribe ]
Both ContraPoints and DigiBro are explicit stage personas. Tom Scott is a guy. Natalie Wynn is a person. ContraPoints is an act. Argumate is an act. MitigatedChaos is an act.
The #augmented reality break posts are art, often deliberately multi-layered, and often satirical (as in a certain infamous post in which the punchline to decolonization is Mobile Suit Gundam), or intended as a moral puzzle for the reader to chew on (as in the recent Moon Prisons poll) to aid in their philosophical development.
Mitigated Chaos is "authentic" in that it's based on aspects of my real self that have been multiplied to a higher magnitude - even some of the more outlandish stuff like "product of the US Military Industrial Complex." Mitigated Chaos is "fake" in that it's a specific production with a particular voice as part of its overall strategy (and specific rules and commitments are part of this).
The overall strategy involves a mix of posting types, partly to lighten things up on what is a rather political theory-heavy blog. The 300-500 word blog format and presented level of seriousness fit according to the intended level of epistemic rigor.
Mitigated Chaos is not an article in a scholarly journal of microeconomics, and in addition to the philosophy and political puzzle aspect of it, polling readers about hypothetical space prisons helps to establish that.

Tumblr media
He codes exclusively in B++!
Tumblr media
The mental image of a software pirate who physically raids people’s houses for their data is pretty great.
Tumblr media
Prince sounds like a ‘leader’ or ‘controller’ class. I hope it allows me to change Homestuck’s time rules, because I have ideas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In other words, if we do get nine new characters, as I theorized a few months ago, the new Pesterchum letter will probably be U.
I did miss the Karkat-carcinogen thing. I forgot that was his original theme, since he has a lot more going on now than just his ‘cancerous’ personality.
Tumblr media
You guys said these ship names were good, and you're delivering.
Tumblr media
That's a good point. I haven't really played any point-and-click games myself. I guess Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright both have point-and-click elements, but they fit more neatly into other genres.
I didn’t think the point-and-click genre had any analogue to RPG classes, but it is a lens that I haven’t really viewed Homestuck through up to now, since, like I said, I haven’t played any. Totally open to anyone else weighing in, though!
Tumblr media
I'll put it on the list!
I might need to compile an actual recs list for the blog at some point, because I’ve got a good few by now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a very Felt-themed thought experiment. they’d probably love it, and so do I.
It’s definitely possible to simulate simple time-loops, and extrapolate them to more complex scenarios. The problems kick in, like you said, when you try to factor in human choice, or ‘free will’.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Tavros had a human name, it absolutely would be Martin. Kind of fits him perfectly, don’t you think?
Tumblr media
Looking back at the pre-Hivebent troll appearances, this does indeed seem to be the case! Plus, I noticed one thing I hadn’t picked up on before:
Tumblr media
An Act 4 cameo from AG!
Tumblr media
Lusi works for me. I don't know any Latin, and since there’s no canon answer, I’m just going for whatever feels right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dangit, you're right. I was saying Meg-ee-do in my head, but just typed it wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The narration called it inelegant, but Sollux’s name for the game works on multiple levels. Elegance ain’t everything!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus, it seems to be fully functional. I wonder the Alternian Exiles aren’t as far in their planet’s future as the Earth Exiles?
Tumblr media
I personally doubt that a session would abide two identical Titles. They’re surely different - and maybe my Title, as a liveblogger, is different as well...
Tumblr media
To make an 'alien' race, they don't remove this photoshopping, of course. They just layer a second bad photoshopping onto the horns, to clumsily erase them.
Tumblr media
We’ll wait till I’m finished the liveblog, and see what state the game’s in then. This blog ain’t going anywhere for at least another year, so maybe we’ll see some movement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aradia's - specifically, the ones in her main sprite. Its just a cool spiral pattern!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right? I had a minor revelation in the tags shortly after I posted that.
AG is Troll Captain Hook, it's definitely on purpose, and now that her relationship to Tavros has come to light, it’s starting to make more sense.
Tumblr media
Guys, these puns are killing me. You're killing your liveblogger, guys.
Tumblr media
I’ve played a lot of tabletop RPGs, and it does seem like I let it seep into my admittedly tenuous understanding of LARPing. I did know it was live, but I was under the impression that you were still acting as a party in a campaign, working collaboratively.
I guess I didn’t think about who’d be playing your enemies. They can’t all be played by the DM unless she can mind-control people so I should have guessed it’d be party-vs-party - or augmented reality, which is what we got.
Tumblr media
Quitting my job to make the crOSby a reality.
Tumblr media
Yeah, some of them aren’t exact matches. Maybe the color balance on this image was changed, at some point - or maybe these colors represent the ‘default’ blood for their caste, and each individual troll has different minor variations in their blood.
Tumblr media
I've played once or twice. It's fun, and I’d love to get better, but the meta is so complex that I wouldn’t really know where to start!
Discard and Draw, though, is a kind of obscure TvTrope. I like the trope, but I like the phrase even more. It really encapsulates a lot of ideas, and I like the sense of change it evokes.
Tumblr media
Hell yes! Enjoy the ride!
Tumblr media
Wow, that's getting close to that one Super Smash Bros fanfic. I thought Homestuck itself would be longer than any of its fanworks, but I, as always, underestimate fanworks.
Tumblr media
For what it's worth, I'm increasingly confident we have got to Vriska -  just not officially. Who else is going to do it like AG?
Tumblr media
Oh, that makes sense. I wonder if this implies my trollsona is yellow-brown colourblind?
Tumblr media
The list I was working from didn’t have many meaningfully different options for Leo - most of them were just variations of ‘Lion’, and most of them were less than six letters. I saw the Finnish ‘Leijona‘, liked the look of it, and cut off the last letter. Voilà - we have our catgirl!
Tumblr media
Don’t worry, true Derséheads will always find each other. It's like those Jojo things.
Tumblr media
Gotta practice character voice while I can. The 1.8 million word Sahlee fic will drop one day, whether y’all like it or not.
Tumblr media
Yup. Like with the humans, they often act like they’re older or smarter than adolescents, but that’s just Homestuck’s writing style. They’re just kids, which makes Alternia’s culture so much worse.
Tumblr media
[ I never had a kidsona actually 🤔 the trollsona may show up some day, Sal, you have full permission after I show you her xD - C]
We shall have to see what happens, once Sahlee gets to her Land...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d say the resemblance is vague enough to be a coincidence - and it probably is - but you never know for sure, when your author is a CS major.
NAND gates always output 1, unless both of their inputs are 1. Thematically, that’s kind of similar to Sollux’s dual-universe deadlock virus, but if we pull that up again I’ll be here all day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’ve talked a lot about what Homestuck categories I’d fall into, but we’ve just locked in the most important one of all: my fursona.
Tumblr media
Silly rules like this really give Homestuck a distinct identity - just like the trolls’ silly quirks do the same for them.
Also - a couple replies from a few weeks ago that I thought I posted, but it seems were eaten by tumblr:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah Davesprite says he’s supposed to be vague, so it’s definitely intentional on the part of Sburb, and not just when your sprite is a capricious jester. The implied reason is that solving Sburb’s riddles yourself is part of the game’s challenge.
It could serve multiple purposes, though. Vaugeness about Titles, specifically, could be so the Players can make their own judgements about what their Title means.
Tumblr media
This mythology is ‘hyper-flexible’, and Players decide what form their enemies take - so maybe they also decide what form their Titles take, too. Maybe what the game is ‘tailoring’ itself to, here, is the Players’ own interpretations of its lore.
Tumblr media
That's a good point - and Jade lives in a big empty island, so she has more Space than any of the other Players! That’s the sort of thing that may or may not be deliberate.
She still hasn't displayed any Space powers, though, of any flavor. Jade - who spent years as a pseudo-Seer - certainly seems to have a funny relationship with her Title.
Tumblr media
That's true - although their Trollian handles, plus the spectrum of their colors, are arranged in the correct zodiac order, so there must be some in-universe meaning to it.
I'm pretty sure the purples are the highest of all. Plus, AG is apparently 'aristocracy', and, more intriguingly, Karkat is seen as ‘gutter blood’, despite his anonymity. The plot thickens.
Tumblr media
Yup, GA is as Jadelike as they come. Maybe the game always assigns a Player as the Frog Temple’s custodian - which makes me wonder if GA has her own Bec, too. He’s still a huge question mark.
Tumblr media
Absolutely locked in as my headcanon.

Hey, genuine question--why do you not think any nonbinary people exist? Like, very genuinely curious, not trying to "call you out" or anything. I'm someone who experiences gender dysphoria over both purely "male" and purely "female" appearances; I've worked with a few different gender therapists and we've come to the conclusion that my dysphoria requires me to have a mixture of both in order to assuage it, and I've worked with several doctors to achieve a body with mixed sex traits after coming to that conclusion. I've never actually heard of any medical science that says mixed-sex-trait dysphoria doesn't exist--I'd be interested in looking into it to be honest, while I feel very comfortable with my body these days and I'm quite mentally healthy, I'm willing to consider that I may have been misled as to the reality of the world.
(Obviously, I'm not supportive of "non-transitioning" "nonbinary" people, btw. You have to transition to be transsexual, and I share skepticism of the people who claim to be "nonbinary" and never undergo hormones or surgery! I'd just never seen any science that disproved mixed-sex-trait dysphoria before--all the science that I've seen has disproven the idea of "non transitioning" transsexuals, but not touched on the existence of real transsexuals with mixed-sex goals, properly supported by multiple therapists and doctors of course.)
Like you say in this ask, there just doesn’t seem to be any actual evidence towards nonbinary, and a lot of defense of it as an identity relies heavily or even purely on self identification and conflating gender with gender roles or masculinity/femininity.
Gender dysphoria does exist on a spectrum of severity and a lot of trans people will want to maintain certain features of their body from their birth gender. I think it depends on what “mixed sex traits” you are referring to, because a trans man not wanting facial hair or a trans woman not wanting chest augmentation seem to be pretty normal trans experiences and I would say is just more indicative that very few people are purely masculine or feminine rather than a mix of the two to some degree.
I do recall a recent study about the effects of misgendering between trans and nonbinary people that had some interesting results but I don’t think there’s really been all that much research into evidence to support the identity itself like there has been a decent amount of for the gendered pattern of trans people vs their cis counterparts brains.

Hfkxktdyifyogig! Hi, Quiet! There are a few of them, so buckle up!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dread (he/they)
A nasty little Lasombra vampire that tells everyone he's a Malkavian. He measures at 5'2.5" and keeps getting shorter as the size difference kink dictates. He's nearly 250 years old and originally born in France. Despite his age, he's taken a liking to modern goth culture and has gone through the painstaking process of changing his body to match his new aesthetic.
He's supernaturally beautiful and in an incredibly unhealthy relationship with his sire. He's a little pervert that uses sex to hunt and is a sweet little submissive masochist. Despite being a goth vampire, he's still a practicing Catholic... which makes the fact that he has a bleeding stigmata kind of weird. He doesn't think highly of humans and sees them as little more than food and tools, so he also tends to be quick to kill the ones that get under his skin.
We have lovingly decided he gets to date one of Inky's vampires. Their ship name is Dralala.
Tumblr media
Father Géroux (he/him)
Dread's sire who is even older than he is by quite a large margin. He's a priest by name, but a monster by practice. Every terrible thing about Dread was inherited from this man. He uses religion for the power it grants rather than any actual belief, even though he still seems to genuinely follow the practices to a degree.
He is a genuine sadist with a trail of blood in his wake.
Tumblr media
Marcus (he/him)
Dread's little human who can somehow keep up with a vampire and has a not so small crush on Dread. He questions himself everyday about why he's chasing someone so much younger than him (as far as he thinks). He does not know about the existence of the supernatural.
His job is questionably legal at best and is how he and Dread met. He thinks Father Géroux is a creepy pervert priest who is clearly after Dread and would gladly take the man out boating wrapped in a cement suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
William (he/they)
The leader of a pro-augmentation cult in a cyberpunk society. His nickname is "The Mouth of God" because he spreads the word of God and communicates to the cult. They believe that augmenting your body brings you closer to God.
In reality, the Great Old Ones are real and he is one of the proxies of one such god. He is called The Mouth of God because he is literally the god's mouth. When people augment themselves he will devour the part they have given up as a sacrifice to his god. All these sacrifices hasten the awakening of the god, there by bring the cult closer in a way they didn't expect.
Is so sexually repressed it isn't funny. He blushes at every little innuendo and gets easily flustered.
Is poly with Nataliya and Ears.
Tumblr media
Nataliya (she/they/xe)
The Eyes of God. Her sight goes both ways, meaning she sees what the sleeping god does and vice versa. It's a lot for a single person to handle. Sometimes she sees the future, which is why she wears all the stickers. Every day has a different sticker arrangement so that when she sees herself in future visions she knows exactly when the vision takes place based on what stickers she's wearing.
She is a bitch. Will insult you to your face and pick at all your insecurities, but is also the most shy and needy person when it is just her and her partners. She's a complete and total submissive bottom.
In a poly with William and Ears.
Tumblr media
Ears (he/she/they)
The Ears of God. Real name unknown. The god listens to the lamentations of humanity and praise him through Ears. He is mute and partially deaf, so he speaks exclusively in sign language.
He is very kind but straightforward and blunt. He is not the leader of the cult, but he is the top dog amongst the throuple. He's a soft Dom that will love you deeply and passionately but also make you love yourself.
In a poly with William and Nataliya.

One thing I've been saying since wwe got AI images is this: it's the same thing as CGI. The more we are expose to it, the better we can discern it. Most AI we'll find are chatbots that won't feel human, hologrmas we know aren't human or images that look like a too-smooth human.
In the same way nowdays we can tell when soemthing is CGI on a movie because most CGI is not polished, the uncanny valley sense in our minds will still be triggered.
These are all valid points, but I was imagining a scenario in which perfection had been achieved past the uncanny valley threshold.
Which, now that I write it, is SciFi territory even with advanced technology. The intricacies of the human face are absurd to the point that pulling it off in an android would require a Fallout 4 style "we literally grew a human and put things in their brain" style "androids" (which would more accurately be called "artificially grown cyborgs").
Where we MIGHT get past the uncanny valley is with adequately advanced CGI and augmented reality.
I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility for a headset to eventually make what appears to be a genuine human, complete with accurate lighting, seem to be in the room (potentially with simulated shadows cast on the room that are just convincing enough to trick the mind).
I'm not saying that's just around the corner. I doubt the tracking and sensors are close to what's needed, nor is the graphics technology.
But we can already simulate a floating menu existing in a fixed physical space, and people are hungry to improve CGI humans. I'd say it's in the realm of "this is reasonably possible in the actual future."

Feytouched Companion (Animal Companion Archetype)
Tumblr media
(art by Rock-fairy-art on DeviantArt)
We’re back again with another one of those “not quite an animal” archetypes for your animal companion (the last of them, I believe), and this time we’re looking at one for the fey creature type!
These so-called feytouched companions might have been altered by the primal energies of the first world, or they might have been born there as one of the strange animals that never made it to the final draft of reality. Either way, they are beings beyond the natural, yet inextricably part of nature.
Such beasts might sport unusual colorations, exotic or eccentric-looking features, and more, or they might even look entirely different, being a strange animal that fulfills the same ecological niche with the same adaptations, but be from another world or never having existed on the material plane at all.
No matter their appearance or origins, however, these animals gain more than an odd appearance from their origins, having minor magics and surprising power despite their size.
Indeed, it’s something of a curiosity that these companions always seem to take the forms of animals that start as Small or smaller creatures, though they need not stay that way as they grow and mature.
Regardless, they have plenty of curious abilities up their sleeve, which we will detail now.
These beasts have a natural love of attention and otherworldly features, making them easy to train to perform. However, this otherworldly nature makes them more difficult to train in other areas.
They universally appear among creatures that at least start out small, but they are stronger than they look, all of their physical abilities bolstering when they come of age, though they remain small.
What they get in exchange, however, is a wellspring of magical power. On their own, they can only create floating lights, but if they team up with their master, they can combine their master’s spellcasting power with their fey nature to cast a variety of spells, ranging from illusions, mind-warping effects, and the like.
Their fey natures also make them resilient to mortal harm, though cold iron pierces it like any fey.
This archetype differs from the other blurred creature types with the addition of spellcasting, which it makes up for by always remaining smaller than normal. As such, these companions are likely not going to be front-line fighters, though they can hold their own thanks to their physical enhancement. Instead, you’ll probably want to use them for mostly utility roles, focusing on stealth and agility. In combat, you’ll likely keep them close so you gain access to the additional spells they grant. It goes without saying that you’ll probably only ever see this archetype paired with a class that actually gets spellcasting.
Perhaps one of the more interesting questions that arises with any of these blurred creature type companion archetypes is the story of how the character came across them. Some like the augmented archetype are easy, but feytouched and other more supernatural ones have more options than deliberate changes. It may have been a fateful encounter, a gift from a powerful fey, and so on.
The Balsyaman Jungle is well-known as a primeval place. Not only do dinosaurs roam it, but portals to the fey realms are common. Poachers seeking rare beasts often come there, in particular feytouched archaeopteryx are popular targets now, but the lizardfolk druids that watch over the jungle make sure they pay dearly for every beast taken.
Though she is called the “Sea Enchantress”, Mikvana the azarketi (gillfolk) is actually trained as a ranger. Her anglerfish companion, however, has the touch of the fey, and through it she can manifest mind-bending spells to entrap the enemies of her people.
Terrorized petitioners, the victims of the sahkils, have little hope on their own, but there are those who dare to venture into Xibalba and rescue them. One such figure is Ilfixi, a gathlain hunter and her plane-hopping companions. Alongside her giant ant companion, she raids the monstrous ethereal pyramid at great risk to herself.

Please tell us more about the journalling game you’re working on! It sounds really interesting.
It's a few different things, because I'm a Slack-addicted solipsist:
A bot that (presumably) follows you around anonymously, logging information about you and sending it to a central server
A game, played by a group of people, which tries to explain who the bot really is
An interactive "social environment" which is rendered in a sort of "window" within your browser. In this environment, you may meet and interact with people who are also playing the game, and chat with any of them. You may also chat with the bot anonymously.
(1) is probably the least interesting, but it needs to be done to make (2) work.
(2) and (3) can probably be summed up as "social interaction with people who are both real and fake."
(3) is the one that's closest to finished. In this state, it can be played locally (using an in-person game / telephone game) or by people in different physical locations, using text chat (which is like an IRC or MMO channel). It runs using a language called Elixir, which is based on Erlang.
The bot is in a sense the "creator" or "moderator" of the game, which is run by a group of itsa players. As the game starts, the bot tells the players about each other. In this early state, the bot's characterization of each player -- their "demographic profile" and "lifestyle" -- is based only on the bot's own logging, and is necessarily incomplete. (Anyone in the game can send chat messages to the bot that are saved as data.)
The bot's computing environment is provided by a cloud service called Heroku. This allows players to operate on the bot from anywhere, and lets the bot harvest data from anywhere. I am not "in charge" of this environment, I am merely a subscriber.
Over time, as the game progresses, players get more data about each other, plus some "special abilities" from the bot. The bot's data is supposed to increase in accuracy as it gains new data about people. Somewhere around 10-15 people should be able to play at once, except that this depends on what sort of environment they're in.
The game spontaneously ends when a player receives 100 "dots" from the bot. The bot says, "You have been fitted for a Helmet of Damnation." The game now officially begins. The Helmet of Damnation is supposed to track players so that everyone can see each other's movements. So far, the Helmet of Damnation has worked via a poorly-implemented copper wire solution, but it works. I'm not making an actual "augmented reality" environment, because a lot of the fun would depend on local, face-to-face social interactions.
What actually happens after the Helmet of Damnation is yet to be decided. But the Helmet's presence should at least have some disruptive impact on players' relationships with each other.
A final state, which is still imaginary, is that the game would be played in an augmented reality environment -- using, say, Kinect and maybe some sort of messy motion-tracking software. This would allow the bot to move around players' physical space, but I

Hello! I wanted to tell you that was an incredible dissertation over the evolution of ARGs, from the Traditional ARG style games to the now modern ones where the locations are more digital and web-based than physical, especially since the most famous Traditional ARGs were, ultimately, marketing campaigns for Games/Series/Films.
I do admit I was ready to jump on the inclusion of Doki Doki Literature Club, only to realize it is a culmination of other small games where the Alternate/Augmented Reality aspects were self-contained digitally within one's computer files and-or sites (one example being the IMSCARED remake, that although is mostly known for 4th Wall Breaking, has ARG-like elements when it comes to engaging with aspects of the story)
I used to know a bunch more of them, and participated a lot more via scouting and initial investigation to discern whether something was more of a Meta story or a legitimate "needs players badly" ARG, but the complete loss of the Unfiction Forum made a dent in my motivation to continue pursuing them. I wonder what kind of discussions they would've gone in terms of the evolution of the genre.
Thank you! You know, I was worried I was spinning my wheels a lot since there's really so so much I could talk about with analog horror, unfiction as well. You definitely shorthanded my words way more eloquently, lmao.
Man, I can't believe I forgot about the Unfiction Forum, see that's exactly what I mean when I say there's so much. Another interesting topic to get into - and my apologies that I'm about to severely digress - being how youtuber's like Night Mind, Nexpo, Wendigoon, etc., have become to modern ARGs what Unfiction Forum was to traditional ARGs. It definitely adds to the overall conversation on how the differences in environment, between the Then and the Now, changes the way an audience learns to engage with works of unfiction. By no means do I mean it in a bad way, either, forums just bring a different energy out of you, I feel like. A collaborative kind of energy. Our approach to the genre most certainly would have been impacted by the loss of the Unfiction Forum as a hubspace, but so to would an artists enthusiasm for making these types of ARGs. With nowhere for people to properly gather at like they used to, barring reddit I guess, you have to alter your creative perspective to fit the changing landscape. A rather fascinating observation you've brought up that I didn't take into account.
People are certainly testing the limitations of the genre, perhaps in part due to this, in ways that continue to be exciting to see and hard to actually define. I hesitated to include Doki Doki as well - in my first draft, I didn't - but it's an example a majority of people would have "learned" off of and base their knowledge of ARGs on. As you said so aptly, it utilizes a culmination of ARG elements enough to make itself mnnnntechnically an ARG. Technically, Doki Doki is a creepypasta, nobody (including me) is going to call it a creepypasta, but it's technically a creepypasta when you take into consideration things like Catastrophe Crow 64 and Petscop, which it's closer in relation to. Taking the extra mile to really fuck with your local files, place hidden messages, and whatelse is what places it squarely in augmented reality territory. Never again do I want a video game to speak my god given name at me, that shit rules.
One thing I didn't mention, mostly because it is and was irrelevant, was Hypnospace Outlaw. I feel like that game does a really good job being an alternate reality game simulator. Like, it evokes that kind of feeling out of me whenever I play it. No clue how popular it got by comparison to others I might name sooner, definitely not trying to claim it had a hand in the evolution of the genre as a whole.
I do think about that game a lot as more people explore website based unfiction as a medium for storytelling, though, because it reminds me so strongly of what I see happening in the analog horror scene now.
Thank fucking god for neocities too, because this is my favorite flavor of analog horror, I want more of it. Welcome Home is such a breath of fresh air in terms of web based horror and makes me very enthusiastic for more projects to venture the same. I want every website to be weird cosmic horror with a shiny enamel coat. Freak me the fuck out in HTML my dude and I will be your biggest fan forever.
