i was at a show last night for a band that’s been a staple of my city for like. 30 years? theyre the ones who played at my parents wedding and shit. but it was odd bc like. it was the most. like. my parent’s scene inside of my city show ever like. oh my goddddd.. like i mentioned before that my parents are well known where i live but like. im talking like. 30 years ago so like. everyone is like 55-70 in this crowd and i havent seen any of them since i was little. ppl were coming up to me like omg hi!! i used 2 babysit u/cut ur hair/etc and it was like. hi. i um. i transitioned. you may have heard about that. yeah my sister? well um. um. would you believe if the same thing happened to him.

#so. heres my description. the show was inside a video rental store that is beloved by the community #they have a small coffee bar so i got a lavender lemonade #the only ppl my age were the children of one of the guys in the band #also artists.#everyone knows everyone. even i know everyone #theres one dude who is famous for setting up an easel in clubs and painting with no hesitation. he did not do that but he brought a painting #to display during the show. he did tai chi in the corner during the show (which was a rock band.) while his girlfriend- who i’ve known since #i was very small bc she used to run events at the local bookstore- who is dressed very goth is crocheting and not paying attention to him #another guy famous for dancing at shows (often wearing a carrot costume.) was there. he was wearing a colorful blouse that was very ripped #and two pairs of glasses he glued together so one is upside down and the other is rightside up. he dances. intrestingly. and he was filming #himself. not the band. himself. the whole time. He brought a friend who was not wearing shoes. (it was pouring rain outside? and this venue #is literally not somewhere comfortable to walk on barefoot?) who tried to dance but wasnt very good so he kept lookin at the carrot guy for #help. pretty much everyone in the room got a shout out. ppl who havent seen me in years recognized me for some reason #god it was. tiring #we went with my dad’s best friend. who has the same name as my mother so ppl. still seem to confuse them lmao #esp bc my mom doesnt like to go to as many things to its often. my dads best friend my dad and me. which does look like a family ig

i think my hottest one piece take is that oda's artstyle is really sexist and racist, even though the writing is fantastic and most of the messages of the story are great. i enjoy this story because of what it says and how the characters are written, as well as the worldbuilding and the magic system and what have you, but i cannot find it within myself to blame someone for being turned off of it by the fact that oda knows how to draw one woman and that he does the minstrel lips for every black or black-coded character. literally one of the straw hats has these lips and he's the one who, when oda was asked what country each of the straw hats would be from in the real world, was given the entire continent of africa. all the others have a country. so like oda definitely holds some racist and sexist biases and those will stop a lot of people from enjoying the series and i think actually that it's fine for those people to dislike those things and a lot of OP fans need to chill out about that

#i saw a youtube comment recently where someone said oda is one of the only artists in the game who doesnt suffer from same face syndrome #like what fuckin manga are you reading pal bc it aint one piece #the men can look really distinct but most of the women are Literally Just Nami #im still catching up with the series so i'm going to post and reblog more one piece stuff in the future #just for now i'm trying to avoid too many spoilers as best i can so i dont even follow the tags #i do truly love this story and the world in which it takes place but it also has flaws and it feels important to recognise those #huge fan so far im on thriller bark in the anime and water 7 in the manga. brook is my favourite straw hat i think

still can't believe grid method is an actual legitimate accepted tool in art like im literally just putting some silly little lines over my reference pic and then suddenly my painting looks photorealistic now what the hell is up with that

so if i wasnt stressed enough about applying for jobs yet, now i have a requirement of applying for minimum of four places a month or risk losing my benefits 👌

a weird little thing abt me is i will definitely mock shitty ai art but it never feels right doing it about the hands simply by virtue of the fact that a lot of them look indistinguishable from the hands i was doing years ago when i first got a drawing tablet

BE NICE #static.soundz #sorry that last post was so directly inspired by seeing someone go can u guys be nice he is on a fucking nutbag schedule. which he is.#i dont think some people understand the insanity of comic production. and how much it takes a toll on you.#many have said and i will say it too: comics is a killing industry. it is a beautiful fun job. it is fulfilling. it will also destroy you.#the most common and easiest to use example is in fact the manga industry. they want chapters in a week. 20 page type chapters in a week.#A WEEK!!! and currently look at things like webtoon as well which also expect the same amount of pages. in a week. an issue in a week #is an insane demand. it is an unreasonable demand. it is scheduling that leads you to a crash and burnout and health issues #because it is fully finished polished pages. as much as i poke and complain about how some things look there #i am also highly aware of production schedules. even if some styles are not my taste that still doesnt mean it isnt insane work #and it's the same in american big industry comics too. it isnt weekly demand the way those are. but it's still an intense schedule #you are working on pages and can get behind years before those comics even hit shelves.#and as it becomes more individualized too as we lose the team element and work becomes more one person doing all pencils and inks #that schedule is a lot. it just is. it doesnt matter if theres more time in comparison to other parts of the industry #the point is that it is all very demanding and exploitative. there is a drive yourself to your grave mentality here and i've had ppl try #to shove that mindset onto my and my peers which is the worst thing possible to encourage. highly alarming and disheartening to encourage #impressionable students already so worried about making it to drive themselves to an early grave. abuse substances to get through work.#work excessive hours while you still can because when you hit your 30s youre gonna lose that ability #become bitter and prepared for rejection as opposed to success because this industry sucks!#it's just such an unhealthy depressing mindset. i've had more artists preach the exact opposite as that and more ppl have been trying to #shift over to valuing your time and health. but still a lot of people are in that other mentality. and it's very very very sad.#i am only a student doing very low stakes homework for classes. i have no industry experience. and i still get it taken out of me #to do fully fledged out pages in my style in one week. this is also just a thing for me bc certain personal factors just make it hard #but still. comics are fun. they are fun. they are fulfilling. they will lead you to so many fucking issues if you are not highly careful #there is a reason why so so so many fucking comic artists have very well known issues. why you hear about so many ppl with substance issues #artists with very poor mental health. when you are in comics this is how it is.#i am glad there has been a big shift in recent years towards taking care of yourself as an artist. and that more ppl try to value it so tha #things can hopefully change at large in a broader sense. but please remember. we are an exploited chew up spit out industry too.

Okay so this is going to seem like its coming out of left field but I have to say something about this. Has anyone noticed that when White people make art they always do at least 1 of these 3 things to their Black subjects?: - Putting them "beneath" everyone else in the frame (or placing them on the ground while everyone else stands) - making them a "servant" to the white people in the art (handmaiden, service worker, "helpful friend", etc) - Literally hiding them behind the other people in the frame* I notice this in everything and its weird as hell. The only exception to this is when they make the Black person in question a baby- like a literal infant or very small child. And funny thing about this: I have often seen said black babies depicted with WHITE PARENTS lol! fucking weird! Btw I'm specifically talking about short-form media such as drawings, paintings, and videos under 5 minutes. Not talking about Films or Television... At this point I wish that White people would just leave us out of their fucking art. Honestly. *I am not talking about "extras"/background characters btw. Im talking about characters in small groups being unnaturally placed behind everyone else- which is strange when you have a small set of subjects (and frankly makes no sense from an artistic standpoint). Perfect example of what I mean:

Why. Why would they bother hiring the Black model for this close-up shot, if they weren't going to bother showing her face or her body.

#I swear they do this because they subconsciously can not bare to see black people on the same “level” as white people.#and they wont just “leave us out” of their work because they like portraying us this way- as stepping stools and servants and shadows #They always need to feel superior over us #and that insecurity is so strong that they can not even stand fictional depictions of Black people as equals.#when a white and black woman are depicted in the same painting. the black womans always braiding the white womans hair #or kneeling at her feet #or serving her tea #or at the very least looking at her admiringly- while the white woman doesnt pay her any mind ofc #its honestly really nauseating and obsessive behavior. the more i think about it the more my head spins.#they are so fucking obsessed with racial hierarchy that they cant even like. make loving art.#its so rare to see a black person depicted in art as “equal” to the people around them when the artist is a white person #that i literally can not think of/find any examples of it.#personal #indigenous rights #African sovereignty #indigenous sovereignty

Price got hurt. It was a terrible hit, and everything happened so fast. You were there, at the crime scene, as everything unfolded right before your very eyes.

His injury, however, wasn’t the result of a mission gone wrong; no. Some idiot forgot to put the warning sign on the wet floor, which caused the poor man to fly into the air and crash to the floor.

The good news is that he's recovering quickly and is now being held at the medical centre until he's ready to be released.

The bad news? Without a captain to guide the team, there was no mission to undergo. And, without a mission, none of you had a clear direction or purpose, leaving you all floating in a sea of mundane tasks and boredom. So, for the past few days, you and the rest of the team have been doing mind-numbing chores ranging from scrubbing the kitchen’s greasy ovens to meticulously organising the cluttered armoury.

While Soap and Gaz are on patrol, you and Ghost are taking a break in the mess hall. He’s cleaning his gun by disassembling it and wiping all its metal components with an alcohol solution. You sit across from him, working on a different kind of project: making a get-well-soon card for Price.

Last night, you snuck into HR’s office and “borrowed” some supplies to help you with your craft: a piece of white paper from the printer, some markers, and a pot of blue-coloured glitter dust you found in one of the drawers. It was a mystery as to why the military’s Human Resources department possessed glitter. Still, it will undoubtedly prove helpful with your "crafty" mission.

You also went to the doctor and requested some “normal-sized” bandages to help with your secret project. The doctor leaned back in his chair, raising one eyebrow. He asked why you wanted the bandages, but you were so vague with your answer that he became suspicious of you. So he pulled his desk’s drawer and gave you one fucking bandage—just one. So you had to make it count.

You folded the white paper in half and carefully attached the bandage horizontally to create the outline of Price’s body. The only thing left is to paint his face on the bandage and draw a hospital bed underneath it. That, and getting the team together to write some kind messages on the card.

Ghost looks at you every now and then, mildly intrigued by your artistic creation. You catch his eye, and he quickly turns away.

“Do you like it?” you ask.

“It’s a bandage on a piece of paper,” he says, shrugging. “What is there to like?”

“It’s not just a bandage on a piece of paper,” you explain and gesture to the figure on the paper; “it’s supposed to be Price lying in his hospital bed, recovering.”

His response comes in the form of a lengthy, dismissive snort. He points to the glitter pot in front of you.

“Why the glitter?” he asks.

“It’s for the bedsheets,” you murmur.

“I didn’t know they transferred Price to a love hotel,” he mocks, turning away from you to resume his task. You roll your eyes in response and shift your focus to your craft. This is the same guy you’ll later ask to write a few pleasant words on that card. Fun stuff.

You can still feel his gaze on you as you work on the captain’s card. Despite his best efforts to appear apathetic, you notice him leaning in slightly, pretending to stretch or yawn while sneaking peeks at your project. His body language betrays him; even though he tries to be tough and keep up the act, you know that deep down, he’s a huge softie who can’t resist a heartfelt gesture. He coughs, pretending to clear his throat, and you stifle a laugh at his failed attempt to seem disinterested. You roll your eyes and slam your hand on the table.

“What’s your problem, Lieutenant?” you ask with an amused smirk on your lips.

“I just don’t understand,” he says as he wipes the gun barrel. “Why bother making a card from scratch when you can buy one?”

“Because it’s more meaningful,” you explain. “When you take the time to create something yourself, it shows that you care. It’s not a generic card; it’s a heartfelt statement.”

He lets out a sarcastic scoff.

“I’d do the same thing for you, you know.” You whisper.

He puts down his rifle and looks at you. “You would?” He asks, surprised.

You nod. “Of course, I would,” you reply, “but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that; I’d rather you stay injury-free.”

He chuckles and turns to look at the mess hall doors as they open, with Soap and Gaz carrying a large box and approaching you both.

They slam the box on the table without assessing its weight, causing the entire surface to shake. The impact knocks Ghost’s alcohol solution over, spilling it all over the table and, even worse, all over your hand-made card.

Your heart sinks to your stomach as you helplessly watch the liquid soak into the card, smudging the ink and warping the paper. Ghost throws the gun on the table and grabs your card as quickly as he can. Soap curses under his breath, and Gaz grabs some paper towels from another table, attempting to rescue anything he can. But it’s too late; the damage is done.

You look up to see Ghost standing there, pinching your card between his fingers.

He is livid.

“What the fucking fucking shit, sergeants?” He murmurs.

“Apologies,” Soap replies, utterly unaware of what he’s done, “Hope we didn’t ruin anything important.”

“This,” Ghost says quietly as he raises the destroyed card, “was a get-well-soon card for Price.”

“Sorry guys,” Gaz apologises as he wipes the table off. “Soap and I will go buy another o-”

“SHE MADE THIS!” Ghost yells at him, “SHE MADE THIS WITH HER OWN HANDS!”

Soap furrows his brow. “Why would you make a card when you can buy one?” he wonders.

Ghost slaps his thigh, muttering profanities under his breath. You try to convince him that it’s alright and that a store-bought card will do just fine, but he cuts you off and looks at the sergeants.

“Why make a card instead of just buying one?” He asks and brings the tips of his fingers together, waving his hand back and forth in front of the two sergeants. “Because a hand-made card is more meaningful and personal than buying a generic one, you dimwits,” he lectures them and turns to you.

“Can you make another one, Y/N?” He asks softly.

You lower your head to the ground. “I’m afraid I’ve run out of banda-”

“SHE DOESN’T HAVE ANY MORE BANDAGES, YA PRICKS!”

“And I had only one sheet of paper.”

“AND SHE HAD ONL-” he pauses. “How come you only got one sheet?” He asks, and you explain that you weren’t supposed to be on the HR premises, so you had to act quickly. Ghost lets out a deep sigh as he looks at the ruined card.

“Sergeant Mactavish, go get a few sheets of paper from my office,” he instructs before turning to Gaz. “Sergeant Garrick,” he orders, “go to the medic; tell him that your new boots have caused blisters on your feet, and you need a few bandages to patch them up.”

They both nod and leave to go fetch your supplies. Ghost turns to you and crumbles your—already—destroyed card.

“Don’t be sad, kid,” he comforts you, “I’ll help you make another one.”

“Really, Lt.?” You ask, grinning.

“Damn right I will,” he says as he takes off his gloves, “and it’ll have bandages and bedsheets full of fucking glitter and everything nice on it.”

i need to see who the director and animators and storyboard artists are for these episodes its absolutely insane. its seriously insane. everything has me speechless. if the narrative told you she only provided support and cover fire in himmel's party, the very party that slayed the demon king, you would never believe it.

literal chills the clone so coldly glared (keep in mind this is a clone, just a thing that's imitating memories and doesnt have a mind of its own. so the real deal's glare must be harsher) after it was backed into a corner by frieren and fern forcing it to use a spell where even fern couldnt sense any mana from that attack. its not even recognized as a spell. fern couldnt see what hit her when the clone was forced to use something so powerful enough to fern, frieren's apprentice thats been said by time and time again to be a monster of her own right against demons and even fellow mages.

the fight also near the end literally shows how capable frieren is even without her staff. just like when she was imprisoned, the demon that came in to dispose of her was literally nothing more than small fry. actually, that guy probably was even nothing to her. it took her absolute zero effort to kill draht so she's absolutely still capable of killing someone without a staff just like flamme.

from the literal black hole spell, a spell of hellfire where even being in contact in the same room with it would damage a normal human, a spell that seems more like terrifying version of zoltraak- which looks like plasma itself and strong enough to destroy frieren's barrier, to a spell that even shatters the fabric of reality, they really went all out for these fights since the manga was fairly fast paced when it comes to this part. but these displays were amazing in showcasing how terrifying frieren can be when backed into a corner.

CHARLIE

Its canon that Charlie herself is an artist, she makes her own presentations and everything! Shes very open to sharing her supplies with you, though a lot of the colors she has are very bright and saturated. You might inspire her to have an artsy based exercise in the hotel, you... may get a few groans and looks from some of the other hotel residents.. whoops.. gushes and goes insane whenever you make something for her or really show her anything, she can go on for hours and hours about how lovely your work looks! Woukd put it on the fridge/hj

VAGGIE

Not at all an artist, and she doesnt... exactly know techniques and terms. She is proud of you and shes trying her best to show that, but... her compliments seem to fall a little flat when praising you thanks to her voice as well as her just not knowing terms. A lot of the time its comments like "oh, this looks good," whereas other characters can say WHY it's good. Though is that really that important when seeking validation? Keeps all the art you give her in a folder somewhere, neat and away from harm

ANGEL

It should be a given that hes going to ask if you can draw something... rather inappropriate. Were you really surprised? He might likely also ask you to draw fat nuggets, he even offers to pay you. Keeps some of your doodles pinned up on his vanity mirror on his room. Hes an artist, just not in the way you are. He has an appreciation for your work even if it's a different genre! It doesnt matter what your skill level is, hes going to be a little interested. He offers to pose for you if you need a quick reference, he can offer something interesting thanks to his flexibility! Free of charge, too!

ALASTOR

Similar to Angel, hes an artist just in a different way! Angel is a dancer and an actor, and Alastor uses radio as his medium! Hes.. interested enough in your work, though he can be a little more.. critical in his criticisms (but only if you ask for it, hes not rude!). He doesnt intent to fully stamp out your excitement, hes simply trying to get you to reach your fullest potential as an artist. It is balanced out by elements he enjoys in your art. Watches you like a hawk when you work. Dont try to be sneaky and try to draw him, he already knows what you're doing.. but he might just allow it, it's not like you're using a camera

HUSK

Hes indifferent, at least.. mostly.. he listens when you talk about your hobby and he makes sure you know hes paying attention. But you can tell that hes not sure how to keep the conversation going thanks to him just... not being into art. Sure he can tell when something has talent and had work put into it, but hes not the type to sit down and really dissect a piece. Though... his appreciation for art does grow thanks to you. Keeps the doodles you slide to him while he's working the bar- gets a little pissed at himself if part of the papers get wet from the condensation from the drinks

SIR PENTIOUS

NIFTY

She draws! As a hobby and when shes not warring with the bugs in the hotel! Sometimes the two of you sit and draw together- though Niftys more.. scribbling on the papers. Shes just excited is all! Don't ask where she got the red paint from. Hoardes the art you give her, very possessive of the drawings. Probably attempts to stab someone if they get too close to her stash

Hes a bit artistic himself, being an inventor and all! He draws his own blueprints and as well as his own designs. It may not be the same as the things you may create, but it's still a bonding point between the two of you. He let's you use his fancy pens and stuff, just please return them! Will praise you to heaven and back whenever you show him something, he knows some art terms and you can bet hes going to be using them to really push his praise! If you ever draw him anything hes going to keep it, likely framing it as well!
