That is not commonplacing that's just journaling . what you are doing is keeping a journal

Hi, very random question - would you have advice for naming and organizing files? I saw your reblog of how to turn off the Windows 11 internet search thing and had my eyes bug out at the amount of files you have. I struggle to keep things organized after like....twenty...
Sure thing! Before I got into 3D, I didn't pay much mind to my file names or where I saved things. After getting into 3D, where those things have an impact on your ability to work on your projects, I was forced to tighten up! 1. Folders are your friend. However you want to organize things is up to you; depending on what I'm working on, I group things by project or subject first. So, for example, on my computer I might have a folder titled "DND". Inside that folder, I have a sub-folder for each campaign, and inside that folder I have a sub-folder for things like maps & documents, and then another for character art with sub-folders divided by character. 2. Decide a naming convention for your stuff. This could be something like "projectShortName_pg#_MMDDYY", or "characterName_portrait_MMDDYY". Having an identifier that makes it clear it's different from other files with similar names is really helpful, and keeping it in the name itself (instead of relying on "last modified" can be a good move. 3. Keep it short, but keep it useful. This is something you might not want to implement-- I use it all the time because it's part of the 3D pipeline, but shortnames are big for knowing what files are "at a glance". Like instead of something like, "Legend of Zelda Link Fanart 112123", I'd go with something like "TLOZ_LFA_112123". This is most useful when the folder structures are in place; if you have a Legend_of_Zelda folder, TLOZ will likely click as "The Legend of Zelda". 4. Don't be afraid to clear it out. Every few months, I gather everything I'm finished with into a folder titled "DSKT_CLEAR_MMDDYY". All of my folders are moved into the core folder, that folder gets moved to my external(s), and I move on.
Doing this when you've never done it before is a hard habit to establish (again, I was only able to do it because it was required while I was in school and now that I'm teaching the same subject), and going back to organize old stuff can be really intimidating. For that reason, I'd suggest gathering everything you currently have, moving it into a "Folder_Holder" folder, and then trying to implement these tips in future file management.

Hello, hello, could you please say more about how you use Microsoft OneNote in your professional life? I need all the help I can get to stay organized & on top of things, so I would love to know.
Sure! I use it less than previous because there's less randomized stuff I need to do now, so I don't need such robust management, but I can talk about how my use began/evolved. I started using OneNote because it was less finicky than Word but still had an autosave function and basic formatting, so it was useful for initial drafts of documents, taking notes on meetings, and keeping track of information I needed at my fingertips frequently.
OneNote's largest "unit" is the Notebook. You can have multiple Notebooks but I've never bothered; still I can see how if your screen was public a lot, you'd want to put some things in a separate Notebook. The Notebook then breaks down into Sections which look like tabs, which I would assign to broad things like "Meeting Notes", "Assignments", "Templates", "Personal" and "Excel Hacks". Sections break down further into "Pages"; each page is a document stuck into place, which you can title so that you can have a list of "pages" on the sidebar and find the one you want easily. Text in Pages can be formatted to some degree, and if you copypaste from websites, it'll tag on the URL of the site you pasted from, although you can also turn that off if you want. You can drag and drop Pages from one Section to another pretty easily.
So, for example, I'd have a "Meeting Notes" Section, and when I clicked the tab for that section I'd have a list of Pages, each of which was notes from a meeting I'd attended. Every time I went into a meeting I just made a new page, gave it a meeting title and date, and took notes on the meeting into the page window. The "Meeting Notes" Section thus became a fully searchable record of meetings I'd attended and what was said. When meeting notes were no longer relevant I'd drag them to an archival Section to retire in peace.

You can see "My Notebook" up in the left top corner, my current Sections as tabs at the top, and the pages list on the left (I think more modern OneNote skins put the pages on the right, I moved mine back). Each line on the left is a separate "page" that tells me how to do something in Excel, something I need to do a lot but can't commit to memory (or couldn't but now have, it's a trifle out of date). So we're in My Notebook, section Excel, page Formatting Stripes, and on the right you can see how to format an Excel sheet so that it has alternating colored rows (there are other ways to do this but this way the stripes always stay alternating no matter what moves where). In theory I could dump all this stuff into one Page and call it "Excel" and put it somewhere else, but I liked having an easily-visible list so I don't have to scroll a single document to find what I want.
There aren't nearly as many tab/sections as there used to be; "Assignments" covers "all work that is not excel formulas" and includes stuff like instructions for how to pull a query in our database, a list of what everyone does at our company, a yearly guide to our events program, a few other things. I don't have a "Personal" section any more but I do have 2-3 pages in the Assignments section that are personal notes.
There's no inbuilt tagging function but because the entire notebook is searchable, if you're really into tagging you can simply add keywords to the top or bottom of a page.
I have OneNote pinned to my taskbar in Windows, and it's basically always open but it autosaves, so adding stuff is super simple; if I find a bug in our database or a quirk I want to remember I just click over to OneNote and add it to the database file, or similar.
I don't use it on my phone or tablet, because if I'm at work I have access to my laptop generally, but OneNote does sync across devices as long as you're logged in, so if you have OneNote and a Microsoft login you should be able to access it in multiple places.

Hi, random q. I saw in your tags that you swear by Scrivener for original fic. I’m still plugging away in ye olde Word and now I’m intrigued to know what about Scrivener you like so much. I’ve def heard about it but never used it, so I’m curious :)
YES I would love to tell you about my lord and savior software Scrivener. I hope you don't mind I published this long, long answer publicly.
So. The main issue I have with Word and Google Docs is that you hit a certain length/word count, and it starts to lag and load kind of jerkily. You know? Also, navigating chapter to chapter or scene to scene is awkward for me--you either have to have a whole bunch of individual documents and multiple windows open, or you have to use headers and the table of contents...which is fine for quickly finding chapters but less so for scenes within those chapters.
Messy, basically. Does not spark joy for me.
Enter Scrivener.
Now, before I evangelize a bit, I will say that Windows Scrivener and Mac Scrivener are not 100% created equal. They are both better, I think, than Word or Google docs, but the Mac version is a bit slicker and a little nicer to look at. I only say that for if you're using Windows, because if so my screencaps below won't exactly match what you see if/when you download the program.
ONWARD.
So, the #1 thing that Scrivener has over Word is that it's a one time fee, not a subscription. So while it is a little pricey (Just went and looked, $59.99 USD), it's only the one payment. All updates and such are covered and available as free downloads. I will also say that Scrivener gives you a 30 day free trial. That's not 30 consecutive days, but 30 days of use--if you only use it every other day, you'll have the trial for 60 days. They make it really easy to figure out if it's for you or not.
This is also going to feel like a lot, but there are built in tutorials and it's actually pretty intuitive, depending on how your brain works. Anyway! The basic gist of Scrivener is that it's a digital binder. You can keep all your book stuff in one place:

As you can see, there's the manuscript (aka my book), notes, research, more. Tbh, I mostly just use notes and Manuscript, but if it floats your boat, you can store maps, place names, worldbuilding, playlist links, moodboards, a whole ton of stuff, all in one menu that's easy to access and in a single window. You can organize it however itches your brain the best way.
But like I said, for me, the best is that Manuscript part, which I'm going to go into now. I use a three act structure for books (but break the big ol' middle act into two pieces because it makes my brain happy), so each act gets a folder.

When I click and expand that act, each chapter has it's own folder. However, it also shows quick-reference index cards, so I can have an at-a-glance at what's going down in each chapter. (I'm using a outline system called Save the Cat for this book, which is why all my chapters have titles like 'Catalyst', feel free to ignore those...I also have a very compact timeline, so to help me stay organized, I labeled each chapter with when it happens.)

You can do the same with each individual chapter and the scenes, where when you click on the chapter folder, each scene gets a card. If you don't type in a summary, it'll just auto-populate the start of whatever content you were writing. You can see this in the 'Copper's Candids NEW' card.

And, of course, it is writing software. When you click on the individual scene, it opens the blank document, and you can get cracking.

So. This system is nice for a few reasons. My favorite is that it makes navigating, reorganizing, and/or rewriting scenes extremely easy. It's just point and click, drag and drop. You can also open two docs in the same window at once, like this:

Which is a nice feature for several reasons--you can work on a new version of a scene with the old one pulled up next to it, or if there's something you wrote earlier or that comes later that's important to what you're working on now, you can have them both up for quick referencing.
Another slick thing is each doc has a notes section off to the right side of the screen--which is optional! I use it for future revision notes/descriptions of how I want the scene to go:

My other favorite part of Scrivener is that it makes it very easy to hoard your deleted scenes like a deranged dragon in case you want them later. My garbage looks like this:

There are SO MANY FILES hanging out in my trash, and you know what? I so rarely actually need them, but my god am I glad they're there on the rare occasion that I do. Word, again, can make it more difficult. I always had a massive 'cut' document that was longer than the actual project and again, awful to navigate. This just makes it easier.
Scrivener also makes it easy to compile the manuscript into other doc types--pdf, doc, docx, etc--for easy printing and sharing.
ANYWAY. I'm sure there are approximately 1 million other things I'm missing, but basically Scrivener takes all your book/long project bits, puts them in one centralized file, and makes it super easy to navigate. I've also found that outlining is easier, because I can just make the folders and scenes and drag them around while I noodle through the plot.
10/10, would recommend to any long-form writer. If you have any other questions, please let me know! If anyone has read this far and has a thing about Scrivener to add, please do! I love Scrivener, and a lot of my writing buddies love Scrivener, and it really kinda has revolutionized the way I write original fiction. I'm always happy to yell about how great it is.

“Buggy, go to bed. I’m not going to fight you.”
Why?! Why is it the one time Buggy finally gets to say what’s on his mind, he’s instantly being dismissed? Why does he have to go to bed when his heart is pounding and he has so much adrenaline that he feels like he can run a full marathon? “You fight me all the time. Wait, no, no no, we don’t fight. You just beat the shit out of me because i’m beneath you. What’s different this time, huh? Why don’t you want to deal with me now?” 
((A/N: Trust in the process. also manga logic applies to everything in this story. My boy could get thrown into a volcano and walk out fine. which is why he isn't like in a coma rn.))

As soon as Cross Guild really starts to gain notoriety and they receive funding from various underworld organizations, Buggy makes sure to have weapons sent over to the island. After all, that’s one of the many things Crocodile wants, and if Crocodile is happy, then Buggy…Well, Buggy gets to live a little longer if Crocodile is at least content, and that has to count for something. 
 
The summer sun is high in the sky, and Buggy’s men are happily chattering and unloading the crews’ new weapons from one of their supplier's ships, some are even trying out their new toys, while Buggy’s stuck in the crew’s armory with Mihawk, uneasy from just being around the other man, not that being surrounded by weapons makes things any better though.
The guns, canons, and various other weapons, don’t get criticized or even really looked at, but the swords they receive end up getting inspected by Mihawk. He goes through every sword, scowling, and making sure Buggy knows that he hates them all.  “Garbage...” he repeats after lifting up every sword, yes every sword, and carefully examining it, and Buggy can’t help but groan internally because he doesn’t get what’s wrong with them, they seem perfectly fine to him.
“These are too fragile and dull. They couldn’t even cut a slice of bread, it’s disgraceful.” Mihawk glares at Buggy as he says those words, making the other squirm slightly, and it’s as if it’s his fault the swords are of such poor quality and not their dealers.
Okay, but Mihawk is supposed to be a great and experienced swordsman, surely he can figure out how to make the best out of the swords they have, right? “Okay, I get that, but… There’s got to be some way we can put them to good use, right?” He asks. 
Mihawk scoffs at him, “The best thing we can do is dispose of them so they can’t fall into someone else’s hands. I doubt anyone around here can use these… Your men’s swordsmanship is at a subpar level, and they’ll break these within their first use, I guarantee you that. Have them destroyed.”  What the hell? First of all, how dare he insult Buggy’s children, and secondly, does he know how expensive those damn swords were? “Hawkeye, we can’t just have them destroyed, do you know how many berries these things cost?” Buggy groans. Surely Mihawk knows that even if they have money coming in now they can’t just afford to throw away millions of berries worth of swords.
Mihawk clicks his tongue in response, “Are you so useless that you can’t even dispose of a few swords?” That’s…that’s not the problem! The problem is that It’d be a waste of money… “Have them destroyed and order new ones, or else.”
Buggy bites the inside of his cheek. There’s a weird concoction of fear and irritation brewing inside of him. He’s too much of a coward to actually stand up to Mihawk, but…But he’s so frustrating!…he wants hundreds of swords just destroyed…such a waste of time and money.
In the end though, Buggy decides that he’s going to just go along with what Mihawk wants because what else can he do? He gives his weapons dealer hell after Mihawk literally has him destroy the crew’s new swords, beyond frustrated that he’d have to wait another week for more weapons to come in because the last thing he wants is for Crocodile to get pissy at him again for someone else’s negligence.
A week later though, and the new shipment of swords is being inspected by Mihawk, who seems at least content with the new batch of weapons, but he has other complaints now, ones about Buggy’s children, again. “I was watching your men training earlier,” he states, putting a sword back into the wooden crate it belongs in, “You should be ashamed to call yourself their leader. They’re as useless in combat as you are.”
Another day, another insult that goes straight to Buggy’s chest. He can never do anything right. Never. And Mihawk and Crocodile have made sure to quickly teach him that painful lesson, everything he tries to do either leads to them cruelly insulting him or worse, kicking his ass, and Buggy’s getting tired of it all.  
These days it feels like he doesn’t have much pride left in him…”Ah, about that…” He replies softly, but he’s not sure what he can even say to defend himself. Yeah, his men aren’t exactly the strongest, but…they’re his kids, Buggy loves them regardless.  
“If we didn’t need men, I’d tell you to get rid of every last one of them.”
But his men…Those are his children…And Mihawk…Mihawk thinks he can just ‘get rid’ of them? Buggy grimaces slightly. It's not the comment about his own incompetence that hurts. Well, okay, that hurts, but it doesn’t hurt that much. It's the fact that Mihawk said he’d get rid of Buggy’s kids that really hurts and leaves him feeling like he’s been stabbed in the chest. Mihawk sees his crew as worthless and replaceable… and if Mihawk gets rid of Buggy's crew... If he takes his only shred of happiness away from him…
...Then what?
“…I’ll have them train harder…” Buggy mutters, and now he has another thing to worry about.
Buggy’s still trying to recover from Mihawk’s harsh words after he leaves the armory, and of course, Crocodile has to come along and make things ten times worse by yelling at him, and it’s over the most trivial thing ever. It’s not even worth mentioning, Buggy just forgot to do something, and Crocodile just…He’s Crocodile.
“Fuck what Hawkeye says, you’re not worth keeping around.”
Yeah…Yeah, he knows.
These days Buggy doesn’t feel big and flashy, these days he feels more like a mosquito than anything. Mihawk and Crocodile make him feel tiny and useless, like a pest that they can get rid of at any moment, and just…
It hurts. 
He finds himself utterly drained after each and every interaction he has with either or both men, often just wanting to be alone after he’s dealt with them. Things are usually at their worst after meetings, he quietly returns to his room after them typically and just… thinks about the things that they’ve said to him. it’s really like they don’t see him as a human being with actual emotions, and their words often come back to haunt Buggy until late at night.
Mihawk thinks he’s a sniveling coward who is undeserving of the title of emperor of the sea. He also thought he was undeserving to be a warlord to be fair…and He thinks he’s a fake and a fraud…And…he’s apparently disgusted at the fact that Shanks considers Buggy such a close friend when he’s a gutless wimp…
As for Crocodile…Well, some things are better left unsaid, but he doesn’t think too highly of Buggy either and makes sure to tell him that every time he comes into contact with him. Buggy doesn’t get why the other two are so hostile towards him when he’s literally never done anything to either of them… 
Plus, It’s not like he hasn’t tried to improve his relationship with the other two because he has, several times actually. Crocodile and Mihawk just have no interest in having even a somewhat normal, healthy work relationship with him because they hate Buggy’s guts and think he’s undeserving of their respect and friendship.
But Buggy can’t figure out why! It just sucks…This whole Cross Guild thing sucks. Mihawk and Crocodile make his life so miserable, but, ahaha, that’s fine… 
Once the flagship Crocodile wanted so badly is finally finished, Buggy’s men excitedly grab him, pulling him towards the docks, and Buggy loves their excitement...he just wishes he could share it. He doesn’t care about that stupid ship. Crocodile has screamed at him so many times over it, impatient and not seeming to understand that you can’t just make a ship overnight, and Buggy just… he hates this thing already without having seen it.
 “Chairman Buggy, you’re going to love it!”
“It’s a ship fit for a king!”
“Close your eyes, close your eyes! We want you to be surprised when you see it.”
Buggy closes his eyes like his men tell him to, feeling a little nervous, but he pushes that feeling aside because he gave his crew specific blueprints to follow, so hopefully they were able to build a ship that satisfies Crocodile (if that’s even possible.)
“Okay! You can open your eyes now, Chairman Buggy.”
“...” Yeah, he sure is surprised when he opens his eyes and sees the ship his men have made for Cross Guild. C-clown…There’s a clown figurehead… he thinks, utterly horrified. Now if his men would have made him a giant ship that was circus-themed and used his likeness as a figurehead in the past, he’d be ecstatic. This is the exact kind of ship that he’d want, however, this couldn’t be further from what Crocodile wanted. He…He swears that he gave his men blueprints for the ship that Crocodile wanted to be made, and yet they still…
“Over here, sirs! Look at the ship we built!”
Buggy doesn’t even have the energy to run anymore at this point. He knows who’s behind him without having to look, and… here it comes, Buggy thinks, sighing to himself. It’s not like he asked for this ship, in particular, to be built, his men just worship him like he’s a god, and, ironically, at times he can’t control what they do. They must have thought the original design for the ship was boring and needed to look flashier…Which it did… but, fuck.  
“For fuck’s sake!” Crocodile gasps, “I gave you fucking blueprints!” And Buggy gave those blueprints to his men, who obviously ignored them and wanted to make a ship that looked just like Buggy instead.
“...That thing is hideous…” Mihawk comments quietly.
“I’m so fucking tired of you fucking everything up!” Crocodile yells, “Get your ass in the meeting room, now.”
Crocodile literally grabs him by the hair and drags him away from the docks, his men see all of this, and yet… they somehow still remain oblivious. Do they think it doesn’t hurt Buggy to be grabbed by the back of his head? Or do they think Buggy and Crocodile are playing some kind of cute game?!
The same men who say they’d give their lives to protect Buggy and blindly follow him are high-fiving each other and bragging about the ship they just made for him, either oblivious or uncaring towards the fact that the very man they worship is being pulled away to his doom.
There are tears in Buggy’s eyes long before they even reach the meeting room. He doesn’t think he’s going to make it to see the day the marines come after their heads because he’s pretty sure today’s the day he’s going to die. Crocodile throws him into the meeting room, and he stumbles slightly, almost falling, but Buggy catches himself at the very last moment and sighs shakily, awaiting Crocodile’s wrath. “You really like getting on my nerves, don’t you?!” Crocodile asks, still yelling at him. No, Buggy does not like getting on Crocodile’s nerves, if anything it’s the complete opposite. “Why’d you do it, huh?” he asks, raising his hand high up in the air. 
“I did-..” What Buggy wants to say is: ‘I didn't tell them to make that fucking ship. My men just do what they want, I'm fucking sorry.” but he of course doesn’t get the chance to say that. Crocodile brings his palm down, striking his cheek, and Buggy knew it was coming but he’s still left stunned as his tears start falling down his cheeks.
Buggy didn’t do anything.
Buggy never does anything to deserve this bullshit.
 
Why does he always take all of his frustrations out on Buggy, especially over things that he can’t control or over things that don’t even make sense when you stop to think about them? Buggy’s a coward, right? Since Buggy’s a coward, why would he do something like have a ship that looked like him built? Surely he wouldn’t want to anger Crocodile more. Surely, he wouldn’t have that ship made if he was really trying to make Crocodile mad and then turn around and beg for mercy afterwards…
That just doesn’t make sense. 
Why does he always hit him?
“Look at me when i’m speaking to you.” Crocodile orders, grabbing Buggy by the face roughly and turning it towards his direction. Buggy didn’t even realize he wasn’t looking at him... “I gave you fucking blueprints, why does the ship look like that?” He asks, but he doesn’t wait for a reply before he strikes Buggy in the face again, “Are you trying to fuck with me?” 
“No!” Buggy whines pathetically, trying to get just one full fucking sentence in, “I-”
“Bullshit!” 
Why does Buggy even bother to defend himself? He won’t listen. They won’t listen. They hate him, they want him to suffer, they want him dead. If it weren’t for his status as an emperor, they would have killed him ages ago and fed him to the fish. “I’m so fucking tired of you, clown. You really can’t do a goddamn thing!” Yeah, Buggy knows. 
Crocodile grabs him by his collar and yanks him forward, and he knows what's coming next. Crocodile is going to beat his face in with that cold metal hook of his again. He closes his eyes and braces himself for Crocodile’s punch, but it never comes.
Before Crocodile can punch him, Mihawk grabs Crocodile’s upper arm with a sigh, “I’m tired of listening to his insufferable crying, leave him alone.”
“You telling me what to do?”
The mood in the room was already volatile, but Mihawk somehow made things worse. Mihawk and Crocodile glare at each other while Buggy continues to weep, afraid that at any moment he could get hit again by Crocodile. 
Maybe he should be happy right now. If he’s lucky Mihawk and Crocodile will take all of their anger and frustrations out on each other instead of Buggy, but Buggy is still shaking, weeping, and at his limit…And He’s not sure what pushed him over the edge. Maybe it’s from being hit, or maybe it’s from being screamed at, or maybe it’s all the stress he’s been under lately, maybe it’s all three. He doesn’t know, he just…
He can’t stop crying. 
“Leave him alone. You said you wanted to have a meeting earlier, so let’s start it.” Mihawk repeats, and Buggy wishes he had a fraction of the courage Mihawk has, and that he could just stand up to both of them. “You know i hate having my time wasted.” 
“Like i give a fuck.” Crocodile coldly replies, but he lets go of Buggy a moment later, shoving him to the ground, and Buggy’s unsure what to do next. Just like always Crocodile's going to just scream at Buggy and hit him, and then act like he did nothing…Actually, they’re both going to act like nothing’s happened. They want to actually have a meeting after all that...
Crocodile and Mihawk are so…
“Have a fucking seat, clown.” 
“Quit that crying while you're at it, you’re giving me a headache.”
Buggy picks himself up off the ground, doing what he’s told and having a seat in his usual spot at the meeting table. He’s usually well put together and at the very least he can hold his emotions in until he’s out of the room and far away from the other two. Today’s a little different though. His tears continue to fall as the meeting gets started, and he can barely pay attention to what Crocodile is saying. 
Crocodile sighs as he sits back in his chair and lights a cigar, “Back to the topic of Prickly Pear Island. We aren’t ready for a full takeover, but i’d like to take a little trip there, meet with a couple of people, and see if we can get things moving.” 
Buggy leans forward, resting his head against the cool surface of the table as Crocodile continues to talk. His heart hurts. He hates this all. His home is going to be destroyed, and if his men aren’t killed then Mihawk is going to get rid of them as soon as he finds someone better suited for Cross Guild. Not to mention Buggy himself is on death row, and could be killed by anyone or anything at any given moment. He hates Cross Guild. He hates Mihawk and Crocodile. He hates his life. 
“It’s going to be a pain in the ass, but we have to bring the clown with us,” Crocodile announces, adding to Buggy’s despair. He doesn’t care about that stupid island. He doesn’t want to go, the only reason they’re bringing him is because he’s basically a human shield at this point and the government won’t attack them if he’s around. “And as much as i hate that fuckin ship, it’s all we got for right now.” Does Crocodile think he’s the only one who hates the ship? Buggy fucking hates it too, he doesn’t even want to go near it. 
“But i say we get some more supplies and recruits just in case, and leave in about a month and a half.” He pauses, “I’m giving you one last chance, clown. Get the ship and men ready, and If you fuck this up, it’s over. We don’t need you as much as you think we do.”
Those harsh words echo in Buggy's head as soon as they leave Crocodile's mouth. We don’t need you as much as you think we do… 
If they’re going to kill him, they might as well get it over with. “Just kill me already.” Buggy sobs, but he has no idea if either of the two can even understand him, he’s pretty much a blubbering mess at this point. What’s the point in waiting a whole month and some change? Crocodile’s going to find something, no matter how trivial, to get mad at him about, so why doesn’t he just kill him already and get it over with? His life means nothing, right? They want him dead, right?! 
Crocodile chuckles cruelly, “What do you think, Hawkeye? Should I finish him off now?” So this really is all just a sick game to him, huh? Buggy figured as much. Whatever. If he’s dead then at least he won’t have to deal with these two…
“You’re going to do whatever you please regardless of what I say,” Mihawk sighs, already getting back up from his seat, “I’m growing tired of you both, honestly,” he says, and as soon as he says those words the air in the room grows thick again.
“The fuck is that supposed to mean?” Crocodile frowns. 
“He’s useless and you’re an overconfident fool.” 
“You wanna fucking fight?”
“I don’t. I’m not going to let you waste anymore of my time. Have a good evening, gentlemen.” 
Crocodile looks irate as Mihawk leaves the meeting room, “Arrogant prick,” He complains. He glances over at Buggy for a moment, “You aren’t even worth my goddamn time right now.” He mutters cruelly before getting up from his seat, “Fucking Hawkeye, ruining my meeting…” he grumbles as he follows after Mihawk, or at least that’s what Buggy assumes he’s doing, but he doesn’t really care. 
He stays in his seat, and his vision is blurry as he stares at nothing in particular in front of him, sniffling here and there. So just like that he gets to live another day in terror, huh? Another day with them? He doesn’t get it, why does he have to live and die by their hands? 
“Captain!”
“Captain, Are you okay?!” 
Cabaji and Mohji suddenly burst into the room, catching Buggy off guard and yanking him out of his thoughts. They pull him out of his chair, embracing him tightly. Oh, he doesn’t deserve this kind of warmth…  “Those guys are…” Mohji trails off… 
“Yeah, they’re…are you sure we have to keep them around?” Cabaji whispers, finishing the other man’s sentence. Yeah. Yeah, unfortunately, Mihawk and Crocodile are here to stay, and even after Buggy’s long gone, who knows how long they’ll keep Buggy’s men in their grasp. They could get rid of them in an instant, or keep them until they’ve worked them to death, depending on who gets a say in things.  
“Captain Buggy…Every time I turn around, I see you crying these days.”
“Yeah, Captain, are you sure you’re doing okay?” 
No, of course, Buggy isn’t okay. But he’s…He’s Buggy. He’s a clown, he’s their leader, he’s like a father (or sometimes a God) to his crew… he’s supposed to put smiles on their faces and their fears to rest, he… He forces himself to smile, though his voice is still shaky as he speaks, “A-are you kidding me?! I’d never let those two get to me…” He tells them, but his voice is small, broken, and full of insecurity. 
“Captain…” They both call out at the same time, expressions full of worry as they stare at Buggy and continue to hug him. 
“Hey, forget those guys! It’s getting late, let’s go have some fun!” Mohji suggests with a grin.
“Yeah! We’ll put a smile on your face captain.” Cabaji nods. 
...
Buggy stumbles out of Mohji’s tent, intoxicated and muttering things to himself. Turns out drinking doesn’t always make you feel better, who would have known? Just kidding! He’s well aware that alcohol can’t solve all his problems, or any of them, really. It sure never made the pain he felt once his captain died or Shanks left better…But whatever, he doesn’t want to think about either of them because thinking about them makes him sad, well, sadder, haha.  
He’s always been a rather…emotional drunk and alcohol has never comforted him, and he knows that. He doesn’t even know why he agreed to drink in the first place…But whatever, it’s too late. He’s got whiskey in his system, and he feels worse than he did before he agreed to drink with Cabaji and Mohji as he tries to remember which direction his tent is in. His tent is…Hm… He thinks it’s just south of the docks…Where are the docks again? 
...and what way is south?
Whatever, he'll figure it out. It’s so hard to see around the island during the night… he swears he ordered more lights to be put up…. Or maybe he thought he made that order, Buggy can’t remember right now. Whatever, he’s tired and sad, and he kinda feels sick. No, actually he feels really sick and he can’t tell if he should lie down or find a trash can. Who cares though, nothing matters because…
I’m gonna die soon... 
Tonight might be the last time he ever gets to see Cabaji and Mohji, and Richie too, and he made sure to hug all of them before he left. Crocodile is going to kill him. He’s going to stab him in the chest with his hook! Or throw him into the ocean and let him drown! Or maybe he’ll dry him out like a piece of jerky and leave him to die a slow, painful death! Who knows, there’s just so many things he can do! Maybe he’ll get Mihawk involved. Maybe they’ll both beat him to death and leave him to succumb to his injuries. 
Ha, what a pathetic life he’s lived! He didn’t even get to see the one piece once, but all well, maybe his captain will tell him what it’s like once they meet up together again. He stares up at the night sky. Sweet, there’s a full moon out, he thinks as he takes in his surroundings. The earth seems to tilt and spin as he tries to walk without falling over, and he laughs to himself. if Crocodile and Mihawk saw him right now, they’d call him pathetic and tell him he should just die now before he disgraces his crew further.  
He should just die…?
He should just shut up and die. After all, he’s pathetic, he’s worthless, he’s a sniveling crybaby who can’t do a goddamn thing! Buggy chuckles bitterly again. Oh, man, they’re right. How did he become one of the four emperors of the sea? Surely that title should have gone to one of them instead, or perhaps one of the members of the worst generation? They’ve been causing quite a stir lately… man, even a child would have been more deserving of such a title than him. 
Buggy does make it to his tent, despite the world being wobbly and all, but he pauses before he can go inside. Hm. He turns back around a moment later, heading toward the docks instead after a rather grim idea pops up in his head.
It’s been a fun life or at least the first…fourteen years were. Everything after that one thing was kind of… He doesn’t want to think about it. Orange Town was fun, kinda, he had a fun time running things and making people tremble in fear… What the fuck happened? He used to be so…intimidating. Now he’s a coward who spends the majority of his time crying and hiding from his problems. Fuck, his captain is going to be so pissed at him for letting two assholes come around and ruin his life.
“I’m so sorry,” Buggy mutters quietly. His feet feel heavy as they make contact with the wooden docks below him. Now that he thinks about it, things are quite peaceful right now. He thinks that this is how he’d like to remember Emptee Bluffs Island; as either a beautiful, peaceful island or a cheerful one bustling with life. He doesn’t want to know what'll look like once the Marines get their hands on it nor does he want to imagine it.
As he heads towards the end of the dock, his eyes suddenly notice a large figure that he didn’t originally see, sitting quietly in the moonlight. He sniffles, wiping his eyes slightly and trying to figure out who could possibly be sitting at the end of the dock in the middle of the night. Tall, Broad shoulders, spiky hair…Hawkeye? But…He doesn’t have his sword with him…No, it doesn’t matter, it’s still him, and he realizes that fact a little late because of his current state.
 
“Still crying?” Mihawk asks without even having to look back. How does he know it's him without having to look? Is Buggy really that big of a crybaby that everyone knows it's him crying without having to so much as look in his direction? “I didn’t think that Crocodile had that big of an effect on you.” 
Is he serious right now?! 
Why doesn’t he fucking get it!
This jerk doesn’t even know what it means to be human, he has no idea what Buggy’s feeling right now. He just judges him and criticizes him, and-- Buggy hates him, he hates them. He hates himself. He hates Cross Guild. He hates his fucking life! “You’re really awful,” Buggy blurts, and once he starts airing his grievances he can’t stop, no longer remembering why he even came to the docks in the first place now that he has Mihawk in his sights, “You treat me like a piece of shit and expect me to be fine with it. I hate you.” 
“Are you drunk?” Mihawk asks, glancing over his shoulder at him. 
Yeah, maybe Buggy is drunk? So fucking what? “I’ve never done anything to either of you, and yet you treat me so horribly, and i’m sick of it. I’m so tired of living like this. So, if you’re going to kill me, just do it!” he tells him, voice slurring and raising slightly, “You want me dead so bad, don’t you? I’m worthless and cowardly, aren’t i? You’re sick of me, aren’t y–”
Mihawk sighs, and if Buggy were sober he would be able to recognize the signs that indicate that Hawkeye is growing irritated, and get the hell out of there but he’s piss drunk and he just doesn’t care. “Be quiet, will you?” Mihawk orders him, turning back around and looking up at the night sky.
“No! I’m tired of being quiet. I’m tired of being bossed around, i’m tired of being told i’m useless, i’m tired of being beaten within an inch of my life. You do know that i’m human too, right? Or do you just not care?” 
“Did you come here looking for an apology?” Mihawk asks, a hundred times more calm, cool, and collected than Buggy could ever hope to be. 
“Who gives a fuck about an apology!? I just want it all to end. I hate you so much.” 
“You’ve made that clear.”
You’ve made that clear? That’s all he can say? No apologies? No arguments? No beating him? Nothing now? Now Buggy's unworthy of even getting his ass beat? “I fucking hate you.” Buggy repeats, this time with more emotion in his voice. Mihawk might not care, but Buggy still wants him to know how much he hates him and how much he’s ruined his life. 
“...”
“What did i do to you?! We hardly know each other.” 
“...”
“Oh, so now you’re not going to say anything? After everything you’ve said, now you want to be quiet? I hate you, i hate you, i hate you.”
“Buggy, go to bed. I’m not going to fight you.”
Why?! Why is it the one time Buggy finally gets to say what’s on his mind, he’s instantly being dismissed? Why does he have to go to bed when his heart is pounding and he has so much adrenaline that he feels like he can run a full marathon? “You fight me all the time. Wait, no, no no, we don’t fight. You just beat the shit out of me because i’m beneath you. What’s different this time, huh? Why don’t you want to deal with me now?” 
Mihawk gets up from where he’s sitting with a groan, “Just go to bed, you’re drunk and i don’t feel like dealing with you.” He raises his hand, and Buggy’s drunk brain starts screaming that he’s going to get hit again, and he closes his eyes, flinching, waiting for Mihawk to hit him or punch him. 
But he doesn’t.
Mihawk puts his hands on Buggy’s shoulder and spins him around, shoving him forward, “Go.” he orders sternly, and Buggy listens this time, sniffling and crying as he returns back to his sleeping quarters for the night.  
He just hates him so much…

WeHeartIt: How to Save Your Hearts
Hi everyone! I’ve put together a multi-step comprehensive guide on how to save your hearted collections and articles from WeHeartIt. If you have any questions after reading this or need someone to walk you through it, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
The information I’m using here is compiled from my own knowledge and uses links provided from Reddit user NTataglia, who is the real MVP here.
Please do this on your PC web browser, I don’t think it will work on your phone browser and it’s not possible to do anything in the app!! If you try this on your phone, it will not work!!! It might be possible on a tablet, but if you can, please use your laptop or desktop to do this. I used my Lenovo YOGA 7i with Windows 11 and Google Chrome to do this, but any PC and browser should be able to do this.
How to Save Your Images
Step 1: On  your PC, go to www.weheartit.com and log in to your account. Hover your cursor on the arrow next to your icon, and you will see a drop-down list. On this list, click on settings.

Step 2: From here, you will see the settings options for your account, including a tab beside settings titled “Download Your Images”. Don’t click this, it will only save the images that you yourself have uploaded and has nothing to do with your collections. Instead, go to the tab titled “Privacy”, and you will see an option saying Download your data. Click this.

It’ll take you to a button titled “Download Data”. Click it, and your data will download to your PC.

Step 3: The data should download as a .json file. Your download should look something like this:

This file alone is basically useless, just a notepad file showing dead links and data, so to access the information on it we will be using the links shared by NTataglia.
First, we are going to go to the We Heart It data explorer. Open a new tab in your browser and go to https://whi-data-explorer.vercel.app/
It should look like this:

Click on “Choose File”, and select the .json file that you just downloaded. Now the Data Explorer should look similar to this, only with your images and collections:

All of your uploaded images, your saved images, and your collections and articles are now here. Unfortunately, this is where it gets time consuming. There’s no way (that I’m aware of) to mass save every image, so you have to go through individually and right-click save each image to your PC. I recommend you to make a specific folder just for WeHeartIt, and to keep it organized have subfolders titled to match your collections and save your photos accordingly. Not every image will show up, as a few are already being removed from the site, but you’ll be able to save most of your collections and images.
How to Save Your Articles
A fair warning with this one: the articles show up in the Data Explorer as the images that they’re displayed with. There is no easy way to see which image is an article, or which is just an image. Hopefully you have a collection made specifically for your articles, or you can remember by image which is an article and which was just an image, or you have the patience to test each image one-by-one, otherwise this will be tricky for you. I do have a few tips for identifying some images from articles though: right-click it to open the image in a new tab. Does it look smaller, or like a different resolution than typical images do? Might be an article.
Here's how to access your articles and how to save them as a PDF.
Step 1: Right-click on an article image from your collection or that you have hearted and open it in a new tab. Check the web address for the ID number, as seen in this screenshot:

Highlight the numbers and either right-click or Crtl+C to copy them.
Step 2: In a new tab in your browser, go to https://weheartit.com/entry/(articleidnumber)
Go to the web address and where it says (articleidnumber) highlight it, and replace it by pasting in the ID number you copied from the image article. You can paste by either right-clicking and selecting paste or by hitting Ctrl+V.

Hit enter and the article will load on WeHeartIt. From here you will see the full article as normal, however the only links you can click on are links to other articles; profile and collection links no longer work.
Step 3: To save the article to your PC as a PDF, hit Crtl+P or manually go to print the webpage. Do not actually print!! Your screen should look something like this:

Where it says “Destination”, click on that, and find the option “Save as PDF” or something similar.

Now, the “Print” button should be replaced by “Save”. Click that, and you’ll have the article (albeit badly formatted) saved as a PDF on your PC!

Big updates can be overwhelming when you have a lot of mods, so I thought I would make a guide about how I keep track of things with google sheets!
As always, remember to back up your saves and take your mods folder out before you update! (taking the folder out is not necessary, but a good safeguard). Playing with unconfirmed and not updated mods after an update is at your own risk! If you want to wait until your mods are updated, turn off automatic updates and play in offline mode.
Even if you don't want to do a google sheet, it's still good to know where you can find your mod updates!

Deaderpool Discord Server (public server)
Google Sheets (you can use any excel-based program but this is what I use and it's free) I'll be giving some tips but this is not a google sheets tutorial.
Scarlet/Sims VIP Broken/Updated Mod List (edit: Scarlet changed it so the list is not on google sheets but displayed on her site. It's the same link and you can still search with ctrl + f so nothing has changed in this tutorial. I use the filtered views list).
First off: I will always recommend sorting your mods into folders. At the very least, a separate folder for your mods away from your cc. Remember that script mods should only be at most, one folder deep. This is how I personally organize my mods. Note that they all start with "mods" so they all appear together alphabetically. I group big mods on their own and smaller mods into these categories.

2. The first thing to do is to create a template sheet. This will be a list of your mods formatted in sheets that you can duplicate when an update happens. If you have any new mods, add them here and not to your update sheets. I do not include every single mod. The mods I include are my script mods and large tuning mods that are updated by their creators. Some mods, like for example the no blu by luumia, are small enough to not worry about and do not receive compatibility confirmations so I leave them out.
3. This is how my template is formatted:

When an update happens, I will cross reference my sheet to the Scarlet's List and input whether it is broken, compatible or updated. Once a broken mod is updated, I will change the status accordingly.
The creator's name comes first so that way if you decide to sort the sheet A to Z they will be grouped by creator. (You'll see why later). Do this by left clicking on column A. If you sort by A to Z the column titles will be sorted too, so freeze that row.
Edit: I also recently added a column for the links to the mod pages! I suggest wrapping the text in that column to keep it neat.
4. The Scarlet/Sims VIP Broken/Updated Mod list is updated in real time by tons of contributors and modders. Additionally, you can look for updates regularly with Scarlet's weekly update and changes list (found through the same link above) or with the mod news channel in Deaderpool's Server, which also gives updates. For now we'll only be looking at the main patch list.
There's tons of mods on here, but don't be alarmed! You can simply search the mod list with Ctrl + F. I recommend searching by creator so there is no confusion on the mods' names.
When an update happens, I will go down the list on my new, duplicated sheet and search for the creators on the Scarlet's List. I then label it on my sheet whether it is listed as broken, compatible or updated. Once a broken mod is updated, I will change its status to "updated".
Mods are listed as "unknown" if their status hasn't been confirmed any which way. After some time, I'd say a small "unknown" mod is safe to go ahead with, but do that at your own risk. I mainly am looking out for the big script mods, many small tuning mods I am willing to give the go ahead if it is still unknown after my major mods are confirmed.
I recommend sitting down and reviewing your mods after a day or so has past after the patch, or you can keep up and regularly update it with Deaderpool's server. You can also use google sheets on your phone for convenience.
Optional:
I do some conditional formatting as well to keep things more clear on my mods sheet. This is optional, but I do recommend it! Do this all on your template sheet so you do not have to redo it later on.
First, I go to Format>Alternating colors to make the rows clear from one another.
Go to Format>Conditional Formatting and select "add another rule".
Click on the top left square as shown here to select the entire sheet. The data range popup will appear. The data range should be something like 1:1000 (or whatever number of rows you have). Click ok.

Choose "is equal to" for your format rules. Type in the one of the status names into "Value or Formula", I'm using "compatible". Select the color you wish the cell to highlight with. You can choose additional formatting styles as well.

Repeat for "updated" and "broken" using different colors for all. I use red for broken, green for compatible, and yellow for updated. I leave mods that are "unknown" blank. Now when you type one of the status names into its column, the cell will highlight the respective color!

“Good morning, my Y/n! How was your night?” He wrapped himself around you as you organized paperworks at the student council room. “Were you thinking about me?” He asked playfully, wiggling his eyebrows.
You scoffed and chuckled. “Maybe.” He awed “You definitely did! Bet I was your knight in shining armor. And you were my damsel in distress.” Rolling your eyes, your mind immediately came up with an idea. You slightly leaned onto him as you looked up to meet a curious pair of eyes.
“Oh my knight in shining armor, please do help me, your damsel, in distress.” You added sarcasm to the last words. He grinned, now playing along. “Oh my lovely princess, what can I, your knight, aid you with?”
You handed Hanako a huge pile of papers and sat on your chair, filling out some paperwork. “Can you place them on the President’s desk?” You gave him a sweet yet smug smile. He groaned. “You baited me! Again!” He complained, pouting at you. You laughed, waving your hand. “You are going to help your damsel right? Well, off you go! I’ll give you a reward when you come back~”.
“Oh and greet Teru for me!” You exclaimed, giving him a kiss before continuing your work.

Hanako continued to frown as he fled towards the said president’s office. ‘I hate this.’ he grumbled to himself, before remembering he could teleport. He called out his haku-joudai and sent it to Teru’s office. It failed. “Huh?” He said confused. Then it dawned on him. “Right, that ‘School Prince’ placed a barrier. Great.” 
He continued to float towards the office with a grumpy face.
Once near the destination, Hanako put on a happy facade and quickly knocked the wall, knowing that electricity was flowing through the door. “Come in!” A smooth male voice said from the other side. “I would if you take out the barrier!” Hanako exclaimed back.
A woosh was heard before the President himself came out with a faux smile on his face. “Come in. Hanako.” He said the name with venom that Hanako immediately obliged. Once inside, Teru frowned and crossed his arms, watching the ghost’s every move. Hanako scoffed then smiled. “No need to be rude, jeez. I’m just here to give you the paperworks from Y/n. She said hi.”
The blond male sighed. “Just place them on my desk. I really have to tell her to bring it herself next time..” He muttered to himself.

Hanako teleported back to your office to see that no one was there, he looked around. Were you hiding? Where did you go? He went around the hallways trying to find you and call your name.
“Y/n? Y/nnnnn- where are you?” He whined. “I sent the papers to him as promised. WHERE IS MY KISS?!”
Hanako looked left and right for you in the hallways. Each second, getting more and more worried. His worries were changed to relief then annoyed. You were with a student, who was close to you as he chatted with you. The student waved and bid goodbye after he needed whatever he asked from you.
You stood there, going back to the office until you noticed Hanako in the hallway. You sheepishly smiled and held his hand undetectably, then went back to the office. “Who was that?” He asked, as soon as possible when the two of you were in the room. “It’s a student asking for help about something.” You answered. He crossed his arms. “Asking you on a date?”
“What- No! He was asking for help with his assignment. We’re classmates.” He let out an ‘oh’, his arms falling beside him. You sighed and slightly shook your head. “I’m not going to dump you for someone else, Hanako. I only have eyes for you.”
He immediately smiled and tackled you to a hug. “Awww, I knew you wouldn’t cheat on me!” You hugged him back, smiling as well “Of course I wouldn’t.”. As a reward for helping you, you gave him the long awaited kiss, which he immediately warmed up to. After a long moment, you thought it was time to let go, once you did, Hanako whined, the warmth gone.
You sat back at your desk and began to write down on another worksheet. “Ugh, you’re always writing something.” He pouted, his translucent body resting on the table trying to cover the paper. You paid no mind. “I have to. It’s my college application.”
He shot up. “C-college?” You nodded. “Y-Y/n- you don’t need to go! Don’t go. You’ll have everything here- you can live here, you can- Tsuchigomori-sensei will teach you! You don’t need to leave..”
“It’s my last year here, Hanako. But don’t worry. It’ll be a few months more before I leave. I’ll visit you too if that makes you happy.”
He sighed, a frown still in his face. “You have to promise me that, Wouldn’t want your oh-so-lovely boyfriend alone do you?” You shook your head smiling, you and Hanako intertwining pinkies to bound the promise.
“I promise.” Hanako’s lips turned upwards to a grin.

Time skip to after school. Hanako hugged you from behind. “Finally! We can be together.” His voice was cheery. You gave him an apologetic smile. “I can’t Hanako. I have to continue to fill out my college application-”
“It’s always ‘Paperwork, paperwork. I have to finish my forms!’” He impersonated your voice. “I just want to hang out with you, is that too much to ask?!”
“I-”
“I just want to be with you! Since the start! I wanted us to be close! I thought that maybe after we got together, we’ll be together and you won’t leave me. Isn’t that how relationships work?!” Tears threatened to fall from his eyes, while you watched him guiltily.
“Hanako I’m-” You reached for him but he slapped your hand away. He looked down. “I’m gonna get some fresh air. Give me time to cool off.” Before he could teleport away, he dared to look at you. Seeing the hurt and guilt in your eyes, he closed his eyes shut.
A moment after he left, you muttered his name. ‘I didn’t know this was affecting him that much.. I’m such a bad s/o..” You decided to do the form later and went to the bathroom, hoping to see Hanako there and apologize.
“Ah, Y/n-senpai!” Yashiro exclaimed, she stopped sweeping and noticed your sad expression. “Is everything alright? What’s wrong?”
You both sat on the cleaned floor, as you vented your feelings to Yashiro. She patted your shoulder for comfort as you sulked. “I’m sure you and Hanako-san will solve this problem soon. I know you both love each other so much.” She smiled, but her heart ached as she spoke.
“I guess.. But we’ve been a bit... We don’t hang out much anymore. I guess that’s mostly my fault because I’m always busy with work.”
“I’m sure he understands.”
The door opened to see Hanako. You quickly stood to your feet and tackled the ghost, muttering apologies. You felt Hanako slowly wrapping his arms around you, mentioning Yashiro and the mokkes to leave.
Once the door closed, he spoke up. “I’ve been a jerk to you too. You’re not the only one who’s regretting their decisions.” He stopped for a while, playing with the hem of your uniform. “Just please stay with me.”
“I will.”

After that argument, everything went back to normal. You continued to spend time with Hanako, and still managed to do your student council duties. With the help of Hanako, you managed to finish all your work for the time being.
But even after that, that doesn’t mean the other students won’t ask you for help.
“Why won’t they ask that school prince for help instead?” He waved his hand in front of the student, who was oblivious. “Maybe Teru’s busy. I’ll hang out with you later, Hana.” You muttered to Hanako.
“Did you say something?” The student looked at you from his paper, briefly pausing.
“Nope! Nothing.” You blurted out.
“Fine! I’ll hang out with Yashiro then.” Before you could bid him goodbye, he was out of your sight. You told the student to focus on his work while you thought about Hanako. ‘I hope I wasn’t too mean.’ You thought to yourself, brushing off the heavy feeling, as you told Hanako you’d hang out with him later.

You bid goodbye to the student before parting ways. You stretched your back, hoping to go back to your sweet-sweet bed and lie down. You yawned. “Going somewhere?” You jolted at the voice, turning around to see Teru smiling. “Yeah.” You quickly answered. “It’s late, you should rest. I’ll let Akane take care of the current work you have.”
You shook your head. “No need, I already finished all of them.” You turned your back, waving. “I have to go. You should go home Prez.”
You paused, before continuing. “And at least give Akane a break.”

You opened the door, expecting to be greeted by Hanako’s arms. Instead, the room was empty. No one was there. “Hanako?” You called, looking around. “Where are you?”. Looking out the window, you saw Hanako and Yashiro at the garden making flower crowns. You focused your eyes on Hanako, seeing him smile, flowers on his head, and having fun.
You smiled, going down to join them.
“You guys seem to be having fun.” You grinned. Yashiro’s eyes widened in surprise as she didn’t notice you. Hanako jolted, before smiling wider and pulling you beside him. “I made a flower crown for you!” He took a flower crown of your favorite flowers and gently placed them on your head.
“A crown fit for a queen.” You felt heat rush up your face, smiling widely that you can’t control it. “Thank you, my king.” You tackled him and filled his face with kisses. Hanako laughed and tried to return the affection.
Unbeknownst to the two of you, Yashiro sat there with her arms crossed. A frown on her face.

“What?” You said, staring in disbelief at the piles of paper in front of you. “I gave Akane a work off, as you said. But I’m really busy today so I can’t do this myself. Can you do it for me? Please.” You were one of the two people Teru would give work to. The other one is Akane, of course.
“I-” Looking at his eyes, he seemed a bit desperate. You sighed. “Fine.” His eyes shone brightly. “I knew I could count on you! See you!”

You started going back to your habits- not like you wanted to anyway. You didn’t have time for Hanako. He felt as if he was just thrown to the side as you continued drowning yourself in work.
Another person Hanako would go to was Yashiro. She wasn’t in the student council. She was free. She and Hanako met way longer than you and him. She was the one he could trust when you weren’t there.
As he hung out with Yashiro, going on adventures and missions, you were at school stressing yourself out. You yearned to at least rest with Hanako and cuddle with him. The thought briefly calmed you.

“Yashiro! Watch out!” Hanako yelled as a monster began to raise its weapon. Before it swung, Hanako managed to pull Yashiro to his chest as he threw the knife to the enemy’s weak point. He sighed in relief, looking at the girl.
“Are you alright?” He asked, looking for injuries. She nodded, heart beating fast either from adrenaline or by how close she was to him. “That was fun!” He exclaimed. “Too bad Kou and Y/n weren't here.. Just you and me.” Yashiro muttered the last part of the sentence because she felt flustered.
“Yeah. I know Y/n would’ve liked being here..”
“Hey! We’re here. Don’t be sad. We can still have fun!” Yashiro’s words seemed to cheer Hanako.

As time passed, Hanako noticed that Yashiro liked spending time with him, so he took advantage of her to make you jealous, hoping for you to pay him more attention. So they continued to hang out more, Hanako hoping you’d notice and do something about it.

Days turned to weeks. You finally noticed that Hanako slowly stopped coming to visit you. This was the last month before school ends and you wanted to hang out with your boyfriend before you have to enroll in college.
‘I don’t think I have seen Hanako for so long. Is he alright?’ You muttered a curse under your breath for being too absorbed in finishing everything and not caring for your boyfriend’s wellbeing.
You decided to visit Hanako and plan to spend your last moments before graduation.

“Hey Hanako. Are you and Y/n still dating?” Yashiro blurted out of the blue. Then, her eyes widened, thinking Hanako might’ve thought the wrong idea. “W-well. I thought of it because I haven’t seen Y/n with you. So I assumed you both broke up.”
“We haven’t broken up..” He answered. “But we haven’t been together either. I don’t know what phase of the relationship me and Y/n are.. She keeps ignoring me.” Hanako frowned, trying to remember anything you and him had done over the past few weeks.
“You’re such a great guy, Hanako.” Her confidence seemed to skyrocket. “When we go on adventures together, with or without Kou and Y/n, you’re the one who keeps us safe and the one who makes us happy.” Yashiro smiled, as a blush spread across her face. “If we’re together, I’d...“ She stopped for a brief moment, intertwining their fingers and staring at his eyes with something he was familiar with. The same look you gave Hanako when you first started dating.
“I’d stay with you as long as I can.” She muttered sheepishly. His eyes only widened. His heart palpitating. He sat still when she slowly leaned onto him, chests touching, nose brushing each other.
With all the confidence and bravery Yashiro had, she closed in the distance she and Hanako had left. Hanako’s breath hitched when they kissed. But he soon melted into it as he craved for the feeling you couldn’t fill no longer.
Hanako tilted his head to deepen the kiss. Yashiro let go of his hands and sat on his lap, her hands on his shoulders to support herself.
For Yashiro, she thought her feelings were reciprocated. That Hanako had loved her while they were on their adventure.
For Hanako, he wasn’t thinking about Yashiro kissing him. He loved the attention and affection she gave him. But he was imagining you making out with him instead of Yashiro. 
Too absorbed making out, they failed to notice a figure on the door watching. You clenched your uniform as your heart pounded crazy. Tears quickly blurred your vision as it fell down your cheeks. “I can’t believe you..” You sobbed. “You cheater!”
Your loud voice seemed to break the two’s moment. When he noticed you, he pushed Yashiro off him, going his way to you in panic.
“Y/n, It’s not what it looks like! She kissed me!" He tried to hold your arm, only for you to yank your arm away from him. “And you kissed back!?” You exclaimed. “I can’t believe you!”
“Y/n I was thinking of you that whole time! I swear.” You scoffed at his excuse, roughly wiping your tears. “And yet you kissed her? Hanako, what’s wrong with you?” You cried out. Yashiro quickly stood up and stayed there sheepishly, feeling guilty.
“I love you Y/n, you know that! It’s just because you’ve been so busy with everything that we can’t hang out anymore. My heart hurts because of it!” He gripped his clothes where his heart was located to show how hurt he is. 
You were conflicted if it was your fault that this relationship didn’t work, but you told yourself that Hanako had cheated behind your back, anger quickly clouded your emotions. “Then why don’t you crawl to Yashiro and make yourself feel better?! Huh? You seem to like her more!” 
Yashiro flinched when her name was called. Hanako became irritated. “Fine! I love Yashiro too. There, I said it! Leave her out of this.” Your heart broke. “Maybe I’ve developed feelings when you weren’t with me-” You slapped him, not wanting to hear another word. Hanako hissed out in pain as you screamed at him. “Don’t pin the blame on me!” You choked a sob, tears became uncontrollable as it continued to pour down your cheeks. 
“You were the one who got feelings. If you do love me, you won’t fall in love with any other girl. I trusted you, Hanako.” You clenched your fist, looking away from him to something else. “Maybe we aren’t meant to be.”
He froze. Hanako wanted to move, to hug you and tell you to not leave him, that he still loves you, but his body was stunned. He was forced to watch as you walked away from his life.
Yashiro reached out a hand for the heart broken ghost, but pulled back. “Hanako, I-”
“Leave me alone. Get out.” His shaky, despaired tone didn’t help much for Yashiro to leave. She wanted to comfort Hanako from the breakup she had caused. When Yashiro didn’t respond, Hanako turned to her, showing his teary eyes and irritated expression. “I don’t want you here, I said get out.”
Without another word, Yashiro obeyed him. She walked to an empty corridor and leaned on the wall, sliding down to the floor. “What have I done?”

february was a really good month for music!!! i enjoyed so many projects from both artists i've loved for a long time and some i haven't enjoyed in the past at all. there were a few disappointing ones too, one album in particular spawning some of the most irritating discourse in a long time, but i'm trying to look at the positives!! here are my thoughts on some of the most notable projects that dropped this month!!! to check out my thoughts on some of the songs that dropped this month click here!!! also feel free to follow me on rate your music and twitter <3

What Now - Brittany Howard
🥇 ALBUM OF THE MONTH
◇ genre: psychedelic soul
When Brittany Howard dropped her first solo record, Jaime, back in 2019, I was absolutely obsessed with it. The shift from the blues rock-centric sound of her other work to the world of psychedelic soul worked extremely well. However, as with most new music I was obsessed with during that time, it feels like it was so long ago. I think the pandemic made me sort of forget a lot of these albums I once loved. For some subconscious reason, I don't revisit many of the new records I loved from late 2019 to early 2020. Jaime was unfortunately one of them. When I heard this new album was on the way, I was excited and listened to like one of the singles, but nothing more. When I finally sat down to listen to What Now, it felt like meeting up with an old friend and hitting it off almost immediately.
The opener "Earth Sign" shook me to my core on my first listen. It's spacey, slow-building, but when Howard emphatically sings that third "out thereeee" in the third verse it acts like a call to arms for the drums to come booming in. Such a cool moment moment. The next track "I Don't" is one of the more straightforward psychedelic soul cuts on the album and it's so gorgeous. I can't get enough of it. The title track picks up the pace a bit and is almost funk rock. I adore Howard's fuzzy guitar on this song. It's probably also a good time to mention how the rest of the musicians on this project do an amazing job. "Another Day" and "Prove It to You" are really interesting detours into a more dance direction. They simultaneously sound out of place while also fitting right in. I would love to hear these sounds be explored further on future albums. The album's home stretch kicks off with "Samson" which might be Howard's most intimate moment from a musical standpoint. Very bare guitar parts, organ, and some saxophones peppered in. Stunningly beautiful. She immediately fires back up for "Patience" which features some of my favorite instrumentation across the whole record. Mixing together those funky basslines and guitar licks before shifting into some sweeping keyboards on the later half of the track. "Every Color in Blue" is a phenomenal final note. Again, mixing together some subtle jazz instrumentation with Howard's awe-inspiring vocals. You just have to hear this. I've listened to this album a ton since it dropped. I'm still uncovering new things I didn't appreciate on the last listen. Please don't let this album fly under your radar!!

SCRAPYARD - Quadeca
◇ genres: art pop, experimental hip hop, electronic
I'll be honest, I didn't know who Quadeca was before his last album I Didn't Mean to Haunt You. I learned after the fact that he was a YouTuber and that many were shocked he had made an album that good. The quality for "YouTuber music" is nearly in the dirt, but that record kind of pushed Quadeca out of the label of "YouTuber music." I enjoyed the album a good bit, although I found him to be a bit overhyped by many following its release. I don't know if that's where my lack of knowledge on Quadeca comes into play, but it's just how I felt. Then comes SCRAPYARD and I'm forced to eat the biggest crow ever. This new mixtape from Quadeca has him showcasing his range as not just a producer, but a rapper, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist as well. Opener "Dustcutter" is an emo-rap track with elements of art pop mixed in and it's amazing. His exasperated, frantic delivery at various points throughout the track creates this very anxious tension that feels almost palpable. The next track, "A la carte" with brakence, picks up the pace a bit and the two work very well together. "Pretty Privilege" veers heavily into the art pop and it's so great. Hits pretty close to home as someone who has struggled with body image issues and Quadeca handles these themes in a tactful way. "Easier" shows another switch-up as he delves into some folktronica. He shows so much more depth as an artist here and to think this is the "scrapyard." One of the more no-frills hip hop tracks here is "Guess Who?" and it's a fun listen. The final three tracks are extremely poignant and offer some of the most intimate moments on the record. "U Tried That Thing Where Ur Human" reminds me a bit of a Xiu Xiu track except a bit less ... Xiu Xiu. "Guide Dog" is a really emotional indie folk cut and one that grows on me over reoccurring listens. "Texas Blue" is the most I've enjoyed a Kevin Abstract feature since like high school. Quadeca and Abstract have an incredible chemistry here. It really feels like the perfect way to end this project. Quadeca, I'm sorry for thinking you were overhyped. This SCRAPYARD mixtape is exceptional and I can't wait to hear what you do next.

Where we've been, Where we go from here - Friko
◇ genre: indie rock
Many reviewers have drawn a clear line of influence from Where we've been, Where we go from here and indie rock of the 2000s. Those reviewers would be absolutely correct too. If you told me this was an indie rock staple of that era with a Pitchfork Best New Music review to its name, I might believe you. However, this is a band's debut album in the year 2024. One of the most exciting in recent memory, made even more so by Friko being relatively unknown before this project. It's like it appeared out of thin air. Randomly here's one of the most polished indie rock albums in a while that puts a modern twist on an old formula. An old formula that I have a soft spot for, for better or for worse. Even by the opener, "Where We've Been," I knew this album was something special, at least for me. Vocalist and guitarist Niko Kapetan absolutely steals the show here. His voice is shaky, but effortlessly melodic. "Crimson to Chrome" has one of the most memorable choruses I've heard in a minute, it's been stuck in my head for days. Drummer Bailey Minzenberger really kills it here too. The energy keeps up on the next track "Crashing Through." Those first three tracks alone are a hell of a statement for a debut record. "Chemical" veers into the post-punk and shows the band's range very well. Even when the band get a bit quieter like on "Until I'm With You Again," there's still just this ... energy to it all. Friko sound so confident here, like they know they're gonna be a big name in the genre in a very short time. I hope I'm right about that because this album is amazing. I was a bit floored by how much I enjoyed this. Incredibly excited to see what Friko have in store for us next.

PHASOR - Helado Negro
◇ genres: indietronica, neo-psychedelia
Similarly to Brittany Howard, Roberto Carlos Lange's music has escaped me over the last few years. I enjoyed his 2019 album This Is How You Smile, but I just kind of lost track of him. However, I saw his new album PHASOR getting some buzz and I decided to check it out. I'm glad I did! It's a gorgeous album full of sweet, borderline ambient songs. "I Just Want to Wake Up With You" is such a simple song, but it's so enjoyable. The repetition of the chorus never feels irritating because the production and instrumentation are so nice. It almost feels like you're swimming and the little synth flourishes remind me of early electronic music from the 70's. The whole album is full of stuff like that too. It's such an easy listen. Each song just breezes past you so gently. It doesn't demand your attention, but if you decide to give it some you will be rewarded. "Out There" sounds so cool and more complex than some of the other songs here while not losing the subtlety of the album. "Best For You and Me" is similar in this aspect too with its driving piano chords and fuzzy synths bubbling up underneath Lange's soft vocals. The most raucous track here is the opener "LFO (Lupe Finds Olivieros)" which is a cool mix of indie rock with the rest of the album's spacey synth work. This album has really grown on me over multiple listens. It's so easy to throw on whenever. It fits nearly every mood and doesn't overstay its welcome at all. It's also reminded me to go back and revisit more of his work from the past!

She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She - Chelsea Wolfe
◇ genres: darkwave, post-industrial
Chelsea Wolfe is a name that sounded vaguely familiar to me before I listened to her new record She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She, but I'm pretty sure I've never heard any of her stuff before this. Upon listening, I have a strong desire to dive into her back catalog. This album is excellently produced and wonderfully written. These songs are dark and often chilling. Both due to Wolfe's unique vocals and the production. You're thrown right into it with "Whispers In The Echo Chamber" as Wolfe sings about seeing things "beyond reality" and the dark synths really accentuate that feeling. The song eventually builds into a big industrial burst with a ripping guitar part towards the end of the track. I loved the range presented here and it's present across the whole album. Wolfe shines in both the softer moments and the louder moments. "House of Self-Undoing" is more straight-forward industrial rock. Even amidst the wild drums and guitars, Wolfe's vocals stand out. The lyricism here strikes a nice balance between substance and style. The majority of the tracks here have at least one lyric that is razor sharp despite the ethereal vocals. "The Liminal" is a really great trip-hop cut and an unexpected, but welcome change of pace after the slow-burning "Tunnel Lights." As was "Eyes Like Nightshade" which blends elements from dance music into this dark world Wolfe is creating. It's such an easy album to get sucked into. Even with the sonic shifts, these songs immerse you in their weird world. The album ends with one of its most fiery moments, "Dusk," as Wolfe aptly sings "and I will go through the fire" as the heavy industrial guitars and drums almost drown her out. I really loved this album. Wolfe managed to balance both the chaos and relative tranquility on the album just by her performance alone. Really need to listen to more of her stuff!

All Life Long - Kali Malone
◇ genres: drone, holy minimalism
My first introduction to Kali Malone's work was through her 2022 album Living Torch. A really interesting two part, 33-minute drone piece that had a really dark atmosphere to it. Her last album, Does Spring Hide Its Joy, was way more expansive at three hours. I had to listen to it over multiple days. It played on a lot of the themes of the previous, except grander. This new album is trimmed down a bit, but it has some of her strongest material. Opening the album with the choral "Passage Through the Spheres" is a very interesting choice. It doesn't really sound like much of the album musically, but it sets the tone very well. All Life Long sounds like the album art suggests. Everything feels cold. Maybe not the standing the snow kind of cold, but a really strong, uncomfortable chill. The title track, split into versions both for organ and voice, is a big highlight here. Malone's plodding organ on the former feels like you're stepping into somewhere you shouldn't be. It sounds haunted. "No Sun to Burn (for Brass)" lightens the mood just a bit and is a really striking minimalist composition. "Prisoned on Watery Shore" is a mellow drone cut and it keeps you hooked the whole time. Just by the first four tracks Malone has taken us down so many avenues and flexed her range as a composer. I love the dark droney synths and little organ flourishes on "Fastened Maze." I do like when Malone works with a brass quintet and the choirs, but they really shine with the drone stuff. She's so good at creating distinct atmospheres in each of her compositions. All Life Long might be my favorite project of Malone's yet. The majority of the songs here are really well composed and evoked some kind of reaction from me. Not sure if I would recommend starting with it if you're new to Malone's work, I would say Living Torch is still the best entry point, but definitely give this a listen after.

Prelude to Ecstasy - The Last Dinner Party
◇ genre: indie rock, glam rock, pop rock
I mentioned this in my singles & songs post from last month, but I have been loving the singles leading up to this album. Even if the entire debut from the London glam rock band didn't live up to the hype those songs gave me, I would still be pretty satisfied. Luckily, Prelude to Ecstasy is a really good debut. The band dives into themes of gender, generational trauma, and toxic relationships accompanied by some catchy, cathartic songwriting. The best example of this is the band's biggest hit thus far, "Nothing Matters." I touched on it briefly in the aforementioned post from last month, but I just adore that song. One of the most well-crafted rock songs of the decade so far. That chorus sticks with you for days. I wish I could be a bit contrarian and say that the biggest hit isn't the best song, but I just can't here. That isn't to say the rest of the material here is weak, far from it, this album is loaded with great songs. "Burn Alive" veers into a more post-punk sound which fits the band so well. The lyrics discuss turning pain into art and lead vocalist Abigail Morris has defined it as the band's "mission statement." Very strong start to the record. I wrote about how great "Caesar on a TV Screen" was last month, but I enjoyed it even more in the context of the album. "Sinner" is another great example of the band's glam rock sound. It sounds so classic, but not in the extra-derivative Greta Van Fleet way. They use these sounds from the past and put their own spin on it. All in all, this is a very strong debut album. Occasionally the band can drift into the generic, but those moments are few and far between. They're even more forgivable when you compare them to what other new stuff is playing on your local alternative station. I'll definitely take it over any son of Mumford.

Loss of Life - MGMT
◇ genre: neo-psychedelia
Nearly 6 years removed from their stellar previous album, Little Dark Age, MGMT have finally returned with Loss of Life. An album that sees them leaning away from the synth-heavy sound of the previous in favor of a more organic sound. Guitars and the occasional piano are usually the driving force behind these songs. The psychedelia present through all of their work is also here which is to be expected. The album opens with "Loss of Life Pt. 2," which features some of the most electronic instrumentation across the whole record and a lot of it would be reprised for the closing title track. Lead single "Mother Nature" follows it and it really was the perfect choice for a lead single. It introduces this "era" of the band perfectly. More organic instrumentation, more mature lyrics, while still having those hooks that really stick with you. I think this is one of the best songs the band have ever made and while a lot of the songs following don't reach those heights, plenty come very close. "People In The Streets" follows the same formula as that song, but way more mellow. I love the bass on this track, it's so prevalent in the mix. The next track "Bubblegum Dog" is almost glam rock and they pull off that sound pretty well. The lyrics feel like a meditation on the creative process and moving forward. Interesting themes that I'm interested in hearing from them at this stage in their career. A lot of the songs here, as good as most of them are, just leave me wanting a little bit more. I often found myself wanting the band to take a few more risks and get a bit wilder on the musical front. I feel like you could've explored these more mature themes while also getting a bit crazier with it. As this album dropped only last week, I don't feel like my opinions on it are fully formed. Maybe I'll enjoy it more over more listens as the year rolls on. For the most part, Loss of Life is a really good return for the band and an interesting release in their discography.

Still - Erika de Casier
◇ genre: contemporary r&b
Erika de Casier had been on my radar for years, but I never got around to listening to any of her albums in full. I was inspired to listen to her new album due to her incredible single from last month, "Lucky." A really sleek, atmospheric drum and bass cut with a killer hook and production that still wows me even after multiple listens. It's probably still my favorite track on the album, but that's not to say there aren't other amazing tracks on Still. The reggaetón undertones of "Home Alone" were a very welcome surprise. "ice" is has a very funky bassline and a nice feature from They Hate Change. "Believe It" has a subtle bit of trip-hop thrown in and some of my favorite hooks on the whole record. The album's sounds are deceptively eclectic as de Casier blends them together so well. The incredible production across Still can sometimes be to its detriment. On a few tracks, the production feels let down by some weak songwriting. Not bad by any means, but I just wish there was a bit more of an edge to them. de Casier is a very good pop songwriter and pretty much every track has a good hook, chorus, etc., but it doesn't leave much of an impact beyond that. "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Twice" are examples of this. Really nice beats, but I feel like they never reach the heights they have the potential to. Even with those gripes, Still is a really well-crafted record and there is no shortage of great stuff here.

Other Rooms - Adriaan de Roover
◇ genres: ambient, electroacoustic
I don't know much about Adriaan de Roover at all. I found this album on the front page of Bandcamp and decided to check it out because the genres looked appealing. Sometimes you need a good ambient album and Other Rooms is a satisfying listen. There are some gorgeous ambient soundscapes on this project with some glitchy moments peppered in. In fact, the album starts off with one of those moments. "Yet" has these prickly, glitchy synths throughout, yet an almost eerie wave of noise accompanies them. It creates a really cool dynamic. If you're just looking for some good ol' ambient, check out the tracks "Homebound" and "Dank U." My favorite piece here is the title track. It features some nice ambient synth-work alongside these distant choir-like vocals and some chilling piano chords thrown in. The backend of the tracks turns to something far more sinister with one of the most outwardly unsettling dark warbles. There always feels like there's something underneath a lot of the songs. I just wish it was a bit more fleshed out. At just under 30-minutes in length, I feel like there was a bit more to explore. Still definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a good ambient album with a decent amount of depth to dive into.

Club Shy - Shygirl
◇ genres: house, dance-pop
There's not really much to say about this new Shygirl EP except that it's a really strong, concise collection of house and dance-pop tracks. A bit of a detour from the sound of her previous album Nymph, but it works so well. She works with a ton of different producers here and it's incredible how cohesive it all sounds. Every track hits and there's very rarely a dull moment. "4eva" and "thicc" are probably the biggest highlights here for me. I'm a total, anti-social geek that doesn't go to clubs, but those songs make me want to. If you need a quick collection of thumping club songs, look no further.

Unwired Detour - Asian Glow
◇ genres: noise pop, indietronica
I've listened to a decent amount of Asian Glow's work over the last few years. They've been involved in some pretty interesting projects throughout the decade so far both on their own and with other noisy/shoegaze artists such as Weatherday and Parannoul. They played bass on the latter's After the Night live album which was one of my favorites last year. However, it seems as though the Asian Glow project is coming to an end with Unwired Detour. They announced on their Bandcamp that this would be the "last album [they'll] ever release for Asian Glow." It doesn't feel like your typical "final album" though, at least to me. I'm sure it has a lot more personal significance for the artist, but this just sounds like an extremely promising album from a young artist and one that could be a stepping stone to much greater heights.
The album features some really good noise pop/indietronica tracks with some having more of a rock edge than others. "Ashes" is one of my favorite cuts here because of that rock edge. It also feels like one of the more lively tracks here from a production standpoint. I feel the same way about "Kuroitamago #2" and "Faucet." This album is at its best when they cut loose a bit. A lot of these songs are really good, but the production feels like a big barrier preventing them from reaching that next level. Like on the opener "Down in the sink" which is just begging to be free from the Wall of Sound production style. I still think on the whole this project is worth checking out. I also am excited to hear whatever comes next from the artist formerly known as Asian Glow.

2093 - Yeat
◇ genres: industrial hip hop, experimental hip hop, trap
I haven't really been crazy about a lot of Yeat's music, but 2093 is probably his strongest album to date. There are so many really cool ideas here and there are some awesome moments here from a production standpoint. However, it would be even better if it were reigned in and shortened by maybe even 20 minutes. He commits to the concept of 2093 and being in the future, but that kinda wears thin when multiple songs hammer that concept home over and over again. On the whole it can be a very tiresome listen made somewhat worthwhile due to a large number of highlights. "Morë" and "U Should Know" are my two favorite tracks on the album if just for the beats alone. They sound so cool and the former dives into the industrial hip hop sound really well. Yeat's bars are pretty nice for the most part, he's not my favorite rapper and often he never surpasses the "this is fine" territory, but he works within these songs very well. I'll always be a sucker for reoccurring lyrical themes across an album. Lil Wayne locked in for his verse on "Lyfestylë" which makes it another standout. I really had a difficult time getting into the later half of the album, but the penultimate track "If We Being Rëal" brought me back into it. There is a really, really solid album within 2093. If you took the cream of the crop and maybe saved the rest for a deluxe edition, you would be absolutely golden.

TANGK - IDLES
◇ genre: art rock, post-punk
IDLES decided to switch things up going into their fifth studio album, partially stepping away from the raucous energy of their previous work in favor of something softer, less aggressive. They enlist the help of Nigel Godrich and frequent collaborator Kenny Beats for the bulk of production duties here. Godrich especially has heaps of experience in the art rock world mainly through his production work on every Radiohead studio album besides Pablo Honey. The production really is one of the standout things about TANGK, unfortunately I don't really know if IDLES is the best at making the most of it. This isn't a bad album by any means and I do warm up to it bit by bit after every listen, but I can't help but feel like a lot of this is underwhelming. I'm all for bands expanding their sound and trying different things, but I feel like IDLES lose a good bit of their charm by going into this direction. The best moments on the album are the ones reminiscent of the wild energy of their previous work. Especially "Dancers", a collab with LCD Soundsystem and a track that somehow flew under my radar last year. That swinging chorus rules so hard. "Hall & Oates" is another massive highlight for a lot of the same reasons. "Gift Horse" is awesome too and shows the band kinda leaning further towards dance-punk.
IDLES really thrive with that rough around the edges sound. Not all of their forays away from it are bad, in fact, none of them are really. Many just feel kinda boring.

Drop 7 - Little Simz
◇ genres: UK hip hop, electronic dance music
It breaks my heart to write this, but Drop 7 was underwhelming. Little Simz is one of my favorite artists going today and her last three studio albums are absolutely incredible. Her 2021 album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert was my favorite album of that year and I would give it a very prestigious 10/10 score!! I was so hyped for this EP once she started teasing it on social media. The snippets showed her venturing into some more electronic production and I was intrigued. Unfortunately, those experiments don't really come together to make a great EP. There are some really good moments though. The opener "Mood Swings" is great and shows her feeling right at home with this style. The next track "Fever" is also one of the better cuts here, but it highlights a big issue I have with this project. Her typical incredible flows and lyricism aren't really present here across this EP. Most of the time her bars feel like an afterthought and oftentimes there isn't much else to carry the tracks on any other front besides that. One of the only exceptions is "SOS" which is a nice tribal house track that makes me want to dive into the genre more. I'm trying not to be too harsh on this EP because it's obvious she uses the Drop EPs to experiment and test out ideas, but Drop 7 left a lot to be desired. I don't think this journey into electronic/house music is a bad idea, but I just hope it can be fleshed out properly on her next full-length project.

Vultures 1 - Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign
◇ genres: pop rap, trap, alternative r&b
It feels pointless to dive into Kanye's weird, antisemitic antics over the last year or so. He obviously doesn't care and his ardent supporters don't either. "Separate the art from the artist!" they cry meanwhile said artist is making light of his antics in the art itself. Thus making it impossible to separate it from him. So that begs the question ... why do people still cling to him? Does the man who just a few months ago uttered the phrase "Jesus Christ, Hitler, Ye — third party, sponsor that" still make good music? Maybe if the beats go hard enough you can forgive and forget as he boasts about still being "the king" despite his vile antics? Unfortunately for the Kanye fans, this might be his worst album to date. No longer can they use the shield of "but he still makes good music!" I've tried to write about how I feel about this album over and over again, but it's so frustrating. Pretty much every song has a fair amount of bullshit thrown in which makes the whole thing unenjoyable. "Stars" is a decent opener until Kanye says "Keep a few Jews on the staff now" as if it somehow absolves him of his past remarks. "Keys to My Life" has a cool beat, but Kanye's verses are some of the weakest of his career. "Talking" probably has the least amount of bullshit and it can be a bit touching at times. "Back to Me" ranks among the worst things Kanye's ever touched. Everything about it irritates me, I don't even enjoy the Freddie Gibbs feature. The same can be said about "Hoodrat." "Do It" isn't offensively bad, but it bores me to tears. "Burn" is just pathetic as Kanye tries to get a quick nostalgia pop because the beat and his flow are sort of reminiscent of The College Dropout era, y'know when he made good music. "Fuk Sumn" and "Carnival" are the most enjoyable tracks here, but I can't see myself ever really going back to them. The title track isn't good and is proof Kanye has lost pretty much all of his sauce. The last two tracks, "Problematic" and "King," are embarrassing. The former where Kanye refers to his current wife as a "reference" to his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and the latter where he says he's "still the king!" despite people rightfully calling out his behavior. These over-the-top egotistical bars would at least be a little bit forgivable if the songs were any good, but they aren't. I almost forgot to mention this is a collab with Ty Dolla $ign and while he has some decent moments (his verse on "Talking" is a genuine highlight), as he says on the track "Paid," he's "just here to get paid." Vultures 1 has to be one of the worst albums by an artist of Kanye West's standing. Someone responsible for making some of the most influential music of the last two decades having a fall from grace this hard and fast would be sad if he weren't such a massive piece of shit. My apologies for going in on this album, but if you know me you will know that I used to be a massive fan of this man's music. I own like half of his discography on vinyl and I stuck with him through so much bullshit. I'm catching up on my Kanye hate after many years of being a delusional dickrider of his. He's making it easy too, not just with his antisemitism, but with this bad record too.

Slut Pop Miami - Kim Petras
◇ genres: dance-pop, house, electropop
I really am rooting for Kim Petras. I thought she was making some cool stuff near the end of the 2010s, but I just haven't been able to get into anything she's dropped lately. Especially these Slut Pop projects. It was already uncomfortable how often Petras collaborated with alleged sexual abuser Dr. Luke, but releasing a bunch of hypersexual bangers produced by him is just very uncomfortable and tone deaf on many different levels.

The easiest way to grow an audience is to already have an audience. This sounds cheeky and unhelpful, but before I get into any details, I think it's important to acknowledge that Abby already had a sizable following before we started working on Scarlet Hollow, and Scarlet Hollow's success meant that we had an even larger following by the time we started promoting Slay the Princess. So please take whatever I say in the rest of this post with a grain of salt. I'm also going to write this post assuming that whoever is reading it has very little understanding of digital marketing, so it might explain some concepts you're already familiar with.

Assuming you're starting from nothing, though, congratulations! We live in a world of algorithms that, for better or for worse, actively promote content that people find engaging.
The most powerful of these algorithms for a game developer will be Steam, which controls something like 90% of the PC market, and which has a vested interest in using that clout to make itself more money.
The way it works is this: if you go onto Steam, like any other storefront, you'll see a lot of buttons and widgets promoting various games. We'll call these capsules "impressions."

Different slots are essentially "worth" different amounts to Steam, with those front page impressions on the above image pretty much the most valuable slots on the platform. Steam has only so many impressions it can fill each day, essentially limited by the number of times individual users access different parts of the store. And filling these slots is how the algorithm comes into play.
The Steam algorithm is a bit of a black box, and has all sorts of components like personalized recommendations, but at the end of the day, Steam is going to try and make as much money as possible every time it generates an impression. So at its bottom line, there's two metrics that outweigh everything else:
Money generated per impression given — once your game is out, if an impression is more likely than other titles to generate a sale, Steam will be more likely to give you that impression. Raw dollars are what matters here, so a $60 game being sold every 10,000 impressions is going to be given precedence over a $30 game being sold every 6,000 impressions.
Barring the above, projected money generated per impression given. So, if, say, 1% of people click on a capsule and visit your store page, and 20% of them wishlist your game, and 20% of wishlists convert for the average game, Steam can take a guess at how much an impression will be worth.
All of this is to say that if you make it so that your Steam page, game title, and capsule images are interesting and capture people's attention, you'll in turn be given more opportunities for your game to be displayed on Steam. I can't stress enough how much Steam drives our traffic — it's probably directly responsible for over 75% of our wishlists and sales.
If your benchmarks are falling short, try changing up your page. New capsules, new marketing copy, new screenshots. Generally speaking, if your page is compelling you should be able to get ~20-30 wishlists per day organically.
You can also use your page to drive players to other platforms — Twitter, tumblr, reddit, discord, you name it.
Within Steam, there's a number of opportunities to get extra exposure as well via festivals and events. Doing a demo as part of Steam Next Fest is a great way to get thousands of extra eyes on your game, and demos in general can be a great way to generate interest and build your community.
The blog post I shared earlier talks a lot about the value of demos, and the ways you can structure them to guide interested players towards your community.
Outside of Steam, a lot of it comes down to figuring out what platform works best for your content. In terms of public platforms, Twitter is pretty much the best for us, followed by Tumblr. Some folks might have better luck with Instagram, though, and if you have the stomach for video, TikTok can be a great way to quickly build an audience from nothing. There are a few communities on reddit that are okay with self-promotion as well: /r/games hosts "indie sunday" every sunday, where devs are allowed to post about their titles once a month.
There are also key accounts on a lot of platforms that mostly work to curate games within certain genres — horrorvisuals is a great one on Twitter (and I think he's on Tumblr too) — and accounts like that often host regular posts/tags for people to share their work.
Beyond that, if you have a budget, you can do paid ads on social media platforms, though those can be hard to make profitable — you can also reach out to streamers and press, though those can also be difficult connections to make.
itch.io is also a great platform to host an indie game and get an initial round of feedback, though its userbase is a fraction of Steam's. Great testing ground though, and there's a lot of variety/horror streamers and youtubers who look for new titles there!

i am so brain full of thoughts to talk about all of the time, Until people ask, hey what are your thoughts, and my brain Evicts them with great prejudice. Let’s see what i can scrongune up. I meant scrounge, but okay. I’m inventing scronguning.
I think that Finn and Jake moved into the treehouse BEFORE their parents died. I base this exclusively off the fact that Joshua’s first holo-message for them in Dad’s Dungeon was in the attic of the treehouse. It’s entirely plausible that F&J were just taking some of their parents old stuff and went “sure bring this and shove it in the attic” and completely forgot about it. But I like to think that Joshua actually put it there while he was still alive, since like, going off how he looks in the scene at the end of the BMO Distant Lands special, Finn was really young when he & Jake started living in the treehouse, and I just prefer to imagine that Finn was not a literal toddler when his parents died because it makes me a little less sad. Jake probably moved out as soon as he was whatever-the-mutant-talking-dog-equivalent-of-18 is and just took Finn with him because they are Literal Honest-to-God Soulmates and could not be separated. Also what with the “being dogs” thing Margaret & Joshua were probably too old to have the energy to take care of a really young child by the time Jake and Jermaine were adults. Still, since Finn is 12 at the start of the show, and he and Jake are clearly not actively grieving by then, Finn still had to be pretty young when they died. Ten at most, I think.
That… feels like a sad note to end that on. Oh dog family, you are sweet and I love you, and I kind of wish we got to actually see some Dog Family Moments from when the kids were still kids (and not babies) and Joshua and Margaret were still alive.
I was rewatching Elements and Finn has a line where he says “This is Simon, the Ice King,” and it finally clicked for me what’s actually going through his head when he switches between saying Simon and saying Ice King. He’s approaching it the same way he approaches addressing every other royal he’s friends with! He calls PB Bonnie, but he also calls her Princess Bubblegum (and variations thereupon) all the time. He calls FP Phoebe sometimes, but he also calls her Flame Princess, even while they’re dating, because to Finn - and to everyone in Ooo - titles and names are interchangeable things. A princess’s title is commonly used as if it is their name. And Finn does the same thing with Ice King. He goes “oh, I’ve learned the Ice King’s name now,” and starts calling him Simon sometimes, but also calls him Ice King sometimes, because in the society Finn was raised in, that’s what people do. This, truly, is a detail that affects nothing, but it was something I had not consciously thought about before, and it’s neat to me.
“Simon, the Ice King”… Finn, can we get more of your thoughts on this? Man I wanna see what their interactions were like not long after Come Along With Me.
On a tangentially related topic, I am fascinated by the Ooo systems of… government? I’d say that seems the wrong word, but they’d probably say it’s right. They just use it a bit different. I think that Bonnie might have been the first person to call herself a “princess” (I think this is true? but I can never remember the episode Bonnibel Bubblegum super clearly), and then she kind of… presumably-accidentally shaped the recovering world by doing so. She called herself a princess, and began to build a kingdom, and as more magic beings and mutants started to fill the world they went “oh, kingdoms, this is what we’re doing,” and organized themselves that way, and in most cases it does not mean the same thing as our idea of kingdoms at all. Raggedy Princess just rules a junkyard. It seems like anyone can call themself a princess as long as they have, like, a plot of land distinctive to them… and yet it’s treated like a special title, and lots of princesses have crowns with, like, Significant On A Large Scale jewels (for the Enchiridion multiverse-opening spell and stuff) so maybe there are more qualifications we just don’t see because why would that be relevant…
“Princess” and “King” are also terms that just refer to rulers, they’ve lost their gendered connotations in most parts of the world. Phoebe refers to herself as having become the Flame King, and King of Ooo becomes Princess when he takes over the Candy Kingdom. The Flame Kingdom is ruled by a King, that’s just how it works, a Flame Princess will become a Flame King, and the Candy Kingdom is ruled by a Princess, that’s just how it works, it will never have a King or a Prince.
Most of the major kingdoms are ruled by princesses, by God there are so many princesses, so like… Are the kingdoms ruled by kings (Flame Kingdom, Goblin Kingdom, I guess technically the Ice Kingdom but I have questions about whether or not it is considered an actual government and whether or not Ice King is actually considered a ruler of jack shit…) seen as like, outliers? Is that considered unusual by people?
Also what’s the economy like in Ooo. Finn and Jake don’t need to spend any money to get by, they just walk into a random treehouse and apparently don’t need to spend money on food or anything else because they just accumulate treasure and have an entire episode dedicated to them deciding to spend all the gold they never spend on anything. Is this part of the Adventuring Hero’s Lifestyle, or are there lots of people in Ooo who just walk into whatever unoccupied space counts as a house to them and live off of… food from not entirely clear sources? In F&C we see Simon paying with like, just straight up a regular dollar bill. Does everyone pay like that in the Candy Kingdom or is that a special thing they allow him to do. I don’t know. We don’t see people paying for things that often, I think. Not sure how money works in Adventure Time. It’s mildly interesting.

This story is is fun take on "fake relationship" trope (sorry for the spoiler right from the start) BUT it does take place at a New Years party. Usagi is helping to organize a gala and who would make an appearance, making all the ladies swoon, than our own Chiba Mamoru.

This adorable little one shot centers around the time when Mamoru is studying at Harvard and unable to make it home for the Holidays. Usagi and Mamoru make the best of the situation by calling each other as much as they can.

I never thought that when I started writing again that this blog would become so big, and that my stories would be read by so many people. The amount of support that I get absolutely blows my mind each and every day that I log onto this site. I don’t think I would be writing still if y’all hadn’t been so nice to me. So......for my 1K follower celebration, I took on some blurb requests and tried my best for y’all. Now, for my ‘halfway to 2K’ celebration, I figured I’d ask for some of the amazing writers within the Peaky community to join in and celebrate with me.

First off, thanks so much for taking interest in my celebration! It means the world to me that you’d want to join in!
So I’m gonna start off by saying that this beautiful idea comes from what Lily ( @/retromafia ) decided to do for her latest celebration. I absolutely love music, and, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I love to base stories off of songs that I get inspired by...so when I was thinking about what to do for a celebration, my mind went to this idea almost immediately.
Listed below are a bunch of songs that I’m in love with/have been listening to a lot recently (I may have gone a bit overboard, I know). I feel like these songs would lend themselves well to writing (particularly with peaky), and I hope that you find the same.
So...if you’d still like to participate:
first off, pick a song. Then pick a character(s) you’d like to write with (it can be any character from the show — only Peaky Blinders though, please). You can use a show pairing, OC, or a reader for your story...I’m open to all ideas. If you plan to write something that’s NSFW (18+), please make sure that you put the proper warnings (and that you are 18+)! Finally: Send me a message with the song and the character you’re going to be writing with!
- Because I have so many songs listed here, I hope that you’ll be able to find one that will strike inspiration. If you absolutely, positively want to use a song of your choice, please send me a message with the title and artist first. I’d really love for you to pick one of mine, but I will be open to suggestions.
- I’ve gone back and forth between how many people can use the same song. I think that I’m going to allow two (2) people per song, but I’d hope that you might find interest in one that has no names under it first...if that makes sense. I’d like to see as many songs on the list used as possible. Also, you’re more than welcome to choose more than one song ... in fact, choose as many as you’d like!

The best thing about categories like Sburb Titles is that once you have a big enough sample size of Person/Category mappings, you can extrapolate their traits to any character you like. 
Example: I got an ask a while back asking whether I have any Titles for my own OCs, and to be totally honest I can’t stop thinking about it

Oh, that is awesome. I’m bookmarking that for reference, when I’ve finished the comic. Biology is not my strongest suit, but I do find it fascinating, and speculative biology is my jam.

It’s a balancing act, trying to make a quirk both unique and readable. i thought about a capitalization quirk WHERE i only capitalize common programmINg keywORds, but it looks kind of funky, and I wasn’t sure how to define what keywords to include.

Man, I’m really mad I missed the Club Penguin craze, because if I’d played it, I would absolutely have answered this ask with penguin designs for each of the kids.

Classic Tumblr. When you edit you blog description in the appearance editor, it actually scrubs all the HTML you added, and replaces it with plaintext. To update your description properly, you need to do it in the theme editor. 
I fixed the blog description on desktop, but I don’t think it ever worked on mobile, since tags generally don’t work properly on the app. I think it should work if you access the blog through say, Firefox, rather than the app itself?

That’s one of my favorite anime tropes, and it’s vary Homestuck-friendly, considering how many characters are bespectacled. I’m glad that my ‘sona is continuing this proud tradition.

Thank you!  I think a big part of it is just that Homestuck happens to deal with stuff I’m really into. I love time travel and alt-self/identity shenanigans, so I was already looking at the Paradox Clone system from every angle even before the Veil. Once that cursor targeted Nanna, a lot of things immediately clicked into place. 
I didn’t see the paired tubes coming, though. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment.

Maid! That was the first class I chose for myself, because I liked the connotations around ‘organizing’. 
I’m planning on doing a bunch of Title tests over the weekend. The Official Sally Classpect will be an open question for a long time, but I am interested in how much the various tests will agree.

We’ve already talked a bit about it on the blog, but Homestuck is a kind of meta story on a lot of levels. 
We saw it with the reader suggestions at first, but there are other things too, like Hussie’s narration interacting with WV. Is that ‘canon’, per se? Much to think about...

These guys really have been great recently. It’s like Hussie has spent a while giving them improvised character traits based on reader commands, and now that their personalities are fully established, they’re actually getting full arcs with awesome moments of development. 
I honestly can’t wait to see what the Windswept Questant’s real plan is. She’s abdicated to PM, and seems to be putting a team together. Did she know WV had the Ring all along? What’s up next?

I was trying to find out timelines for one of my favourite artist's songs(not taylor). So can you give some tips? What is the first things you do while trying to find a date? Anything I should remember?
oooh good question
so, first tip, there's various different ways to be useful--one of the reasons this project has kept my attention for so long is i can do it in so many different moods. some days i just want to organize everything, some days i want to compile a bunch of links, sometimes i want to read old interviews, and sometimes if i'm lucky i want to actually use my brain to connect all the clues. don't get in your own way, just follow your gut
step one: organization
i find my spreadsheet set up very useful and i wouldn't be able to keep track of everything without it-- i would say my must haves are track, title, written, recorded, writer(s), producer(s), misc credits, and location recorded (for example here's 1989).

you'll want to set up some sort of key for how certain you are of the date (i do white text if i only know the general timeframe, red highlight if i have no idea where the date comes from, yellow highlight if its a shaky source, and green highlight if it's certain). i also like to color code everything else so i can quickly see basic information but that's just me being extra
in my experience genius has a list of most credits, and if not this website is super thorough (kinda a beast to sort through tho)
i add also add comments to each song and copy paste any quotes from taylor or her collaborators that i think might be useful to figuring out when it was written
step two: interviews interviews interviews
youtube is a gift from god-- i have a folder for interviews from each year and it's so nice (a good place to start is literally typing like, taylor swift 2006 interview, and following that rabbit hole wherever it will lead you), and when i'm in the mood i'll watch them.
old print interviews are a bit easier to find in taylor's case-- taylorpictures.net has a whole section dedicated to it, and i've noticed a lot of other big pop girls have something similar. if not, i've literally google searched "taylor swift interview" gone over to tools, click "any time", change it to custom time frame, and just crawled month by month through target years.

i'd say start with articles around the release date of the album and then work backwards
if you get tired of crawling through a bunch of interviewers asking about literally anything other than the art at hand, search interviews with the producers about the artist, and they tend to be more on track
step three: social media
use twitter advanced search to search specifically your artist and words like "studio" "writing" "guitar" "piano" "song" "album"
i like to add relevant posts to my spreadsheet like this

if your artist is also insane and deleted all of their old posts, then wayback machine is so helpful
step four: when and where
a fair amount of the work comes down to figuring out where the artist was and when they were there-- especially if your artist works out of multiple studios
location stuff can get a bit icky, so personally i don't track stuff until two years have gone by, and even if you want to steer clear of candids you can still gain a good amount of information from public events only-- most artists are constantly touring, doing interviews, maybe attending award shows, stuff like that, and its useful to keep track of all that
again, the wayback machine is super useful-- most artists have an events page on their website, and smaller artists especially will add almost every television show appearance they have to it
Misc tips
CITE AS YOU GO
get around paywalls by copy pasting the link into the wayback machine
in general, i've gotten so good at googling because of this project it's insane-- check out this article to get more specific search results
i've also gotten crazy good at creating and using spreadsheets-- check out conditional formatting if you don't want to manually color code stuff
go one album at a time, at least until you've gotten a feel for it
have one or more work sheet on your spreadsheet- you'll need to format/sort stuff without worrying about screwing up everything else
i do this all in one massive spreadsheet with little individual sheets inside of it for each thing i need to keep track of, but like. i've literally opened up the sheet and then used my computer as a heating pad for period cramps. so do what that what you will
A rough date is easier to organize than no date-- get something down, and then you can refine it
