after... just about one whole year. i finally finished isostatic 👍
chapter 2 (out of 2) is about 4.5k, the whole fic is 7k, rated T. if you enjoy things like clark overworking to avoid his Personal Life Problems, bruce pining like a tree while also staving off a panic attack very effectively, made up kryptonian courting customs, giving gifts as a love language, recontextualizing Kinda Gay Canon Moments(TM) at the very last second, and/or hand saws, you may enjoy this fic!

New aircraft structures production technology has increased their strength
Scientists from NUST MISIS have developed a method of producing composite parts for the aerospace industry, which has increased the strength of finished products by 15% due to a combination of laser technologies and isostatic pressing. The results of the study have been published in The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
The titanium-silicon composite material has unique mechanical properties necessary for the creation of air and land transport—high tensile strength and stiffness. Parts made of such composites are in demand by the aerospace industry.
The properties of this fiber composite are highly dependent on a fairly complex manufacturing technology, which implies a number of significant limitations. Due to the high chemical activity of titanium, the liquid state manufacturing methods are not applicable for the fabrication of titanium-silicone composites.
The research team of the NUST MISIS Hybrid Additive Technologies Laboratory offered a solution to the problem—a hybrid approach combining laser technology and hot pressing.

oh man oh man i found the most beautiful seam of porphyry (some of it basically glomeroporphyritic) in the dacite-rhyolite mountains behind my parents place! i was out for only two hours and lugged a big heavy piece home with me along with some smaller ones:

look at that huge cryst on the left one.
it has some nice biotite in it as well. it was really fuckin wet (and sweaty!!) though and i just about made it back before it started pouring. looking forward to tomorrow to see how it looks when it dries in the sun
also, looks completely different from the very red dacite (im now thinking that one was more of a rhyolite?) i got from the same area last year, just maybe 100m apart.

the bedrock it came from. look at those three color shifts, left to right, dark to beige to spotted. this is a magma rich in felsic minerals that probably cooled real slow at first, then got mixed up with a mafic one via plate subduction, heated back up and had a big devastating yellowstone-like eruption ~1,9 billion years ago. add some tectonic drift, accretions, isostatic rebound, then some magma intrusions.

i very much want to write this damn fic (isostatic ch2) but I’ve been writers block’d on it because I canNOT figure out Bruce’s state of mind - what percent of Threat Assessment Mode he’s in mostly.
on the one hand, he’s... I don’t want to say ‘control freak’ because it’s a trauma response? but the batcave is a metaphor for his heart and clark has just (accidentally) transfigured it. Which to Bruce means he’s compromised its security. it’s like a seismic upheaval (hence the name of the fic). so he’s juggling emotions: 1. furious 2. vulnerable 3. wanting to be in control of the situation AND his emotional response to it.
on the one hand he trusts Clark more than anyone else on the planet except Alfred, but on the other hand on a practical level, the batcave being compromised means that his access to Kryptonite is also compromised. The tactician in his brain that he can’t shut off is pointing out that this would be a very good way for evil superman to shut him down before going full evil. And also in this particular situation he’s both sleep deprived (as usual) and slightly inebriated.
Basically I didn’t quite realize how much stress the plot would put him in, and I’m trying to figure out how to both keep him in character and have him not jump to the worst conclusion. AND I was trying to get all this across from Clark’s POV... I’m way, way better at Clark POV but I'm thinking at this point I need to switch to Bruce POV?

Antarctica Without Ice Sheet 
This is topographic map of Antarctica after removing the ice sheet and accounting for both isostatic rebound and sea level rise. Hence this map suggests what Antarctica may have looked like 35 million years ago, when the Earth was warm enough to prevent the formation of large-scale ice sheets in Antarctica.
Isostatic rebound is the result of the weight of the ice sheet depressing the land under it. After the ice is removed, the land will rise over a period of thousands of years by an amount approximately 1/3 as high as the ice sheet that was removed (because rock is 3 times as dense as ice). Approximately half the uplift occurs during the first two thousand years. If the ice sheet is removed over more than a few thousand years, then it is possible that a majority of the uplift will occur before the ice sheet fully disappears.
As indicated in the map, Antarctica consists of a large continental region (East Antarctica) and group of seas and smaller land regions (West Antarctica). Since the West Antarctic ice sheet is partially anchored below sea level, this region is less stable and more likely to be affected by global warming. Even so, it is likely that during the next century increased precipitation over Antarctica will offset melting. Even in the event of severe sustained warming, it would take many thousands of years for Eastern Antarctica to be fully deglaciated.
