Hi there! So what do you think would happen if Jim had been the one with Shadow Magic, and Claire was the Trollhunter?

Jim does work for Morgana herself, but it's not willingly.

Hi! Another angsty ask, I say.

So, if Jim works for Morgana, but unwillingly, I would say it is because Morgana possesses Barbara in this AU. Jim will do everything to protect his mom, and it's not that far-fetched to imagine that she might show that it's easy to injure or even kill Barbara if Jim misbehaves (and Morgana loses nothing because it's just a vessel for her).

Morgana also feels some twisted attachment to Jim in this AU (he is her apprentice and she sees him as kind of her child). However, her love only brings Jim more suffering.

Angor Rot is also there and acts as both Jim's partner during the missions and his master/sparring partner when it comes to fighting. Angor is sympathetic towards Jim - they are in the same situation, after all. Initially, he tries to help Jim run away (as Angor thought his bindings were looser), but after some time he realizes that Jim puts his mother before himself. Nevertheless, Angor keeps thinking about the escape plans and is rather annoyed that Jim refuses to cooperate most of the time.

Morgana of this AU is rather suspicious of Stricklander as she questions his loyalties. She only contacts other changelings who seem to be more loyal to her. Walter meets Barbara when she isn't under Morgana's control and eventually falls in love with her. However, later he deduces that something is wrong with her (mostly because he learns that Jim is a shadowmancer who helps Bular without much enthusiasm). Strickler abandons the Janus Order eventually to fight for Barbara's (and to some extent Jim's) freedom and joins forces with Claire and her trollhunting team.

As for Claire, Jim learns about her new role right away and is crushed. After all, his feelings for Claire are among the few bright things he still has in this world (another one is his friendship with Toby). Jim tries to hide the information from Morgana, but she already knows. That is why Jim begs Morgana to give him the mission to recover the amulet - it is his way to protect Claire from harm. Jim gets closer to Claire, faking that he has a plan, while also sabotaging everyone else's attempts and secretly protecting Claire from Bular and changelings. Angor Rot is on his side in this charade - he sees it as a way to get out.

Jim joins Claire's trollhunting team as a part of his plan. He reveals that he can do some magic (just not the shadow type). Toby also gets involved, though, by accident, as Jim would prefer not to drag his best friend into the mess he is part of. Jim gets close to Blinky too and his time at the Trollmarket is full of hope (though, he feels uneasy around the Heartstone without knowing why).

Bular is the one who reveals Jim's secret to Claire, and she is furious, thinking that Jim played her feelings just to get the amulet (as they are dating already by that time). Toby is also angry and lost, not sure what to do and if he even knows a thing about his friend. It's where Strickler comes into the picture, revealing everything he knows (and he has gathered more than enough info).

From that point, Claire and her team look for a way to free both Jim and Barbara. Angor helps behind the scenes, and Claire accidentally learns that Douxie, whom she only knows as a waiter, is a wizard, so she begs him to join her team too. Together, they find a way to expel Morgana from Barbara's mind, so Jim feels he is free. Angor also gets his soul back at last.

It's not the end though, as at this time Gunmar is roaming free, and Morgana uses more loyal changelings. She also doesn't give up on Jim, trying to possess him directly this time and getting control over his mind.

Similar to canon, Claire and Toby (but also Barbara and Blinky) travel to the depths of Jim's mind and wake him up. Like Claire in the canon, Jim fights Morgana inside his mind, finding the courage to break the bonds with her and protect his mind for good.

ok so quick summary of what tales of arcadia is for everyone at home graciously provided by wikipedia. a lot of the current timeline of the au is gonna focus on trollhunters so our main protagonist can have some development even though I thought of some scenarios outside of the current timeline whoops

Tales of Arcadia is a trilogy of animated science fantasy television series created for Netflix by Guillermo del Toro and produced by DreamWorks Animation and Double Dare You. The series comprising the trilogy follows the inhabitants of the small suburban town of Arcadia Oaks, which is secretly home to various supernatural creatures and the young heroes who fight against the forces of evil that lurk in the shadows. The three installments of the trilogy, Trollhunters, 3Below and Wizards, have been released worldwide.

Soon afterward, he and his friends are charged with protecting the world from the dangerous monsters that lurk in the shadows of their small suburban town.

so basically this au is filled with magical creatures (trolls), aliens (akiridions), and wizards which is so yogs based!!! there are also beings called changelings who can switch between human and troll.

I imagine a lot of the old gen yogs as non-human and older, while the new gen are mainly human and as teens/young adults like kirsty who is human, however there are a few exceptions like briony who is a troll. technically briony isn't a teen because trolls live for a very long time though she is younger than some of the other trolls. I plan on adding more new gen yogs but need to figure out what role they would play in the au instead of them being just bystanders/background characters. I also intend on adding more SOI characters but I need to refresh myself on the lore

in the under cut I've assigned everyone as either a troll, akiridion, wizard, changeling or human. don't mind the extra bits, I'll explain those in another post along with some dynamics between characters

ALSO, quick note I'm gonna try to be very low-key with our resident demi-gods since the arcane order is a big spoiler in the trilogy. I'll tag posts accordingly to avoid spoilers if y'all are interested in watching the series

Here's a Trollhunter AU. Fair warning, it involves a lot of Jim angst, and none of it is due to Morgana.

• Jim is known as Elise Lake. Elise lives with her dad, but he isn't nice towards Elise. In fact, he's very abusive towards her.

• Barabra had tried to leave with Elise, but James killed her in cold blood by grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing her with it. He forced Elise to witness the whole thing.

• James leaned towards Elise with said knife and told her while gripping her hair, (and these are his exact words): "Don't even think about leaving, you little bitch, or I'll kill you like I just did your mother."

• Elise is very good at acting due to the threat. James only lets her hang out with Toby, so it didn't look weird that she was without friends.

• Toby realized Elise was abused, and has attempted to help her, but each time CPS is called, James always plays the act of loving dad. The most Toby can help Elise is letting her stay the night whenever she needs it.

• Elise is still chosen as the Trollhunter. Blinky is the first one besides Toby to figure out something is very wrong with Elise's home situation after she came down to TrollMarket one day with a bruise on her face she forgot to cover up, and subtly encourages her to try and break free from James. Claire will be the second one, and Strickler is the third.

• James isn't a changeling, or under possession from Morgana. All of the abuse towards Elise is from his own violation. He really hates how much Elise looks like Barabra.

• Claire and Elise still get together, but Claire agrees to hide it from James. They date freely in Trollmakert.

Whether or not Elise actually breaks out of James control, is up to you. I will say this, the amulet turned into a barrette due to Elise worrying about James questioning her about the amulet and it sensed her fear of James so that's why it changed forms when it didn't for the past trollhunters.

Ooohhh man.

Every time I think these AU's can't get more angsty they do.

Barbara keeps dying, I can't deal with it. 😭 Especially in this AU, where James killed her in cold blood...

I think once Strickler figures out how James is abusive towards Jim/Elise it's over for him. As a changeling I doubt Strickler would have any problem getting rid of him forever.

I like how the amulet changes it's appearance to help Jim/Elise out with hiding it. And that Claire is such a strong presence for Jim/Elise.

I have no doubt she would find a way to defy and break James' hold on her.

Sure!

Claire comes to mind first and foremost. She's already a sorceress, so she fits in well with the witches. Let's say she's currently an apprentice, under the tutelage of Morgana, a prominent witch in the Trolberg community of witches. Morgana is an okay teacher, but she desires to join the witch community back to Wild Magic rather than continue the usage of Domestic Magic, and is working against the Committee of Three. Who aren't great tbh, but at least they're not trying to destroy the whole basis of the witch community. She's also kinda trying to destroy Trolberg so Amma can rise again, which. Isn't great. But back to Claire. She is, of course, not out as a witch to her parents, so there's a lot of sneaking around. She and Frida bond over that fact, as well as being straight-A students who have a lot of stress over not being perfect. She eventually comes under the tutelage of her friend Douxie, a fellow witch who has just graduated from his apprenticeship to Merlin, a maverick of a witch with a horrible rivalry against Tildy. Claire's wand is a smaller version of her canon staff and she specializes in shadow magic. She doesn't so much use portals as utilize Nowhere Space.

Jim is in similar position as Hilda, being a kid who got Changeling'd and turned back human (though having retained some Trollish traits and ability to Change a la my (and hold it down) 'verse). The ToA Trolls in this look a lot like this interpretation of them in the Hilda style and have their own community separate from the Stone Forest. Jim's an unfortunate kid who accidentally met a young Troll around the same age as him from Trollmarket-- Toby in this verse is a Troll-- at a young age and became friends with him. The two of them messed around with some magic when they were around ten and swapped forms. They eventually figured out to reverse the spell, but they've been able to change forms since then and Toby was adopted by a nice human lady and got to stay human for most of the time.

Jim and Toby's families moved to Trolberg when they were fifteen. They still visit Trollmarket when they can, and their Troll mentors Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!!, but Trolberg is exciting in and of itself and they've gotten swept up in it all and the Troll community there. They met Claire when she was on an herb-gathering trip outside the wall and they were out during the night. After the inevitable panic (Trolls and witches typically don't mix lol) they became fast friends. And then they get into situations that make the Committee of Three hate them lol. Tildy thinks it's great.

Claire's Familiar ends up being this asshole of an imp who started living in her house that her little brother accidentally befriended. His name came about when Claire yelled at them and was like "Okay, listen up Enrique and- and- Not Enrique!" because she didn't know his name. Thus, NotEnrique is named and Claire ends up adopting this new member of their household. I imagine witch meetings where Claire and Frida are both in attendance end up with Hilda and NotEnrique always getting in fights. They hate each other's guts.

Nomura, instead of being a Changeling, is a witch in this. She's the local museum curator and friendly with Kaisa. She's secretly part of Morgana's plot to join witches back with Wild Magic and destroy Trolberg, but ends up joining forces with the good guys once Jim, Claire, and Toby get to her. She's got a special fondness for Jim and has a crush on his mother, the cute doctor at the local hospital. Toby and Claire think this is hilarious. Jim is so embarrassed. Nomura does not like the blue-haired kid who keeps coming in and somehow messing up her museum. The nervous kid who hangs out with her (David) is fine, though. He's got a proper respect for art. The witch kid is decent, but who in their right mind takes a Troll Changeling for their Familiar?

Aja and Krel aren't aliens but forest nymphs who need to take refuge in Trolberg in human forms because of a war between the nymphs back where they're from. Like canon, they become friends with Jim, Claire, and Toby. I don't know if they're still royalty, but they are sought out by the coup-attempting faction.

There's not Gunmar plot, I'd think, as it doesn't fit in as well with the Hilda 'verse, but the Morgana plot is a thing that Jim, Claire, and Toby keep foiling until Hilda and the Mountain King, where Amma is like "okay stop I like the humans" so Morgana is forced to stop and instead flees to the Wilderness. She's reluctant friends with Victoria Van Gale, who is somehow crazier than she is.

The Time Capsule Au Timeline

I'm still working on this timeline its a very experimental one especially the current one.

The Timeline

The Order creates Earth from 3 Elements. Trolls are created and bore Earth. Humans are created. Then some humans are gifted powers by the Order deeming them Wizards. Wizards are born with long lives.

During the youngest years of Earth, an Akiridion crashes on Earth and is met by a troll named Spar the Spiteful. They fight it out. Even though Trolls consider the title of Trollhunter to exist here it wasn't called that. It wasn't referred to as that. Most records of this time are lost.

Wizards are really found. They discover their magic and bring humans out of the primitive ages.

Wizards discover Dark and Light Arcane magic. They take notes on how to properly use it and lock the information up in an enhanced area called Wizard keep.

Wizards start to die out causing an age of magic to be things to fear and not things to trust. Any Wizards left around were violent due to fear of death or lived in secret. This lead to distrust of magic.

A troll discovers the library and leaks out Dark Arcane magic.

Merlin is born, a young human to an ill and mean mother and Uther and Igerna are two childhood friends.

Merlin discovers his magic, he sets off on a journey with Uther and Igerna. On Their journey they accidentally wake the annoyed order. Merlin is given the Genesis seal by Nari. She says she believes they will meet again but hopes in times of no violence. With help of others they create Camelot where the Genesis seal rests.

Uther becomes corrupted by dark arcane spells and starts to become evil. Igerna supports him. Merlin leaves but leaves the seal hidden in the castle. Igerna has two baby twins but is murdered by an angry citizen who demands a rebellion.

Morgana and Arthur are born. They are both sent away by their father and raised by mages separately. Arthur takes down his corrupted father and becomes King. He saves his sister Morgana from witch hunters and makes her a part of his court but she is never on the same level as him due to humanity's dislike of Arcane arts because of Uther and past events. Merlin becomes Arthur buddy once he returns to help them

Morgana meets Lady Flonesse, they hit it off and are married. They do this in secret because of violence.

Morgana and Arthur build up tension, Arthur is fighting trolls for lands and Morgana is against this violence. It gets worse when more violence is spread. Morgana dives into darker magic and is corrupted by the Order secret spells.

Arthur makes the Knights of the Round Table and meets Lady Morgause. They start to secretly date.

Gunmar is created from violence, as a whelp he meets Morgana who offers him a smart idea to spy on humans.

Morgana creates Changelings and starts to replace babies with them using them as Gunmar spies. She is arrested for such a horrid crime. She is put under trial and will be killed. People who are with her are arrested for suspicion of helping. Lady Flonesse is arrested but proven innocent of any deeds.

Modred is revealed as an ally of Morgana, he fights Arthur and almost kills the king leaving him scared. Morgause is unable to take a side seeing everyone is in the wrong and is forced to become the bad guy.

Morgana and Merlin + Arthur (who is still injured) fight. Morgana loses an arm and is forced to flee where she is found by the Arcane Order. Modred is killed. Morgause is sealed away, but before she is sealed away she reveals she has a child by Arthur from old flings that she left with her handmaiden.

Merlin and Arthur find the handmaiden and meet the baby. The baby is named Douxie and like his mother his magic is strong. Merlin is tasked to raise Douxie. Any information on Morgana, Morgause, and Modred is locked away or burned, they are forgotten.

Douxie grows and becomes powerful like other Wizards before him but still isn't gifted a staff that shows the true talent.

Gunmar corruption leads to trolls being homeless. Gunmar attacks humans. The war is getting so bad that the Order has finally awoken again to destroy humanity due to them seeing humans as the creators of Gunmar.

Merlin creates the Amulet for trolls and it doesn't choose a wielder yet.

Changelings make a rise as they infect Camelot. The most known is leader Strickler.

Morgana returns and aids Gummar into battle getting ready for battle of kilahead.

Deya is found and she is chosen.

The battle of kilahead starts. Gunmar and Morgana are sealed away. Trolls escape and Humans are left to clean up. Humans destroy the bridge with trolls and separate them. Trolls and Humans are parted, they are never seen together again until the time of Jim Lake Jr.

Merlin and Douxie are left injured. Douxie takes Merlin to rest in a tomb that had been known as the Wizards study.

The Order attacked Camelot right after the battle of kilahead. They seek a weapon that lays in Camelot.

Arthur uses the power blessed by the Lady of the Lake to seal away Camelot. From the outside it looks like Camelot is destroyed but truthfully Camelot is now frozen in time.

Douxie returns for Camelot only to be met by "ruins". Douxie mourns but moves on with Archie. He goes on to live his life meeting other Wizards and keeping Humans blind of the truth

Current Day now

Jim and his friends are building a New Jersey Trollmarket. Suddenly they are attacked by the Order. Jim fights Bellroc alone and gets corrupted. He doesn't even know he is secretly a spy. He doesn't know Bellroc can see through his eyes and can control him at any moment they want. Jim continues to aid yet set his friends into traps.

Douxie (in Arcadia) is attacked by the Green Knight who is trying to capture him without hurting him. Merlin immediately steps in and brings Douxie to Trollmarket (also Toby, Steve, and Arrrrgh come because they saw the attack)

Merlin tells them about the Order. He fears they will go to Camelot. Douxie tells him " Camelot is destroyed?" And Merlin spills the truth which makes Douxie angry.

They get to Camelot and are investigated by Arthur but Arthur lets them in. Arthur reveals there is a spy among them and the gang investigate.

Things happen, both the spy and Jim are causing fights and disorders. No one suspects Jim because there should be only one spy.

The Green Knight gets in and it's revealed he is the ghost of Mordred created by the Order. Modred hints at dark seeds already being planted deep in Camelot. He also leaves Douxie with a message to investigate the secrets of his blood.

Douxie goes into forbidden text and not only discovers the truth of his bloodline but of Morgause. Douxie confronts everyone about it and is rightfully angry.

Morgause is unsealed from her prison and adjusts to a new time. Tries to connect to a son that's centuries older than her (like douxie 900 and she was sealed away so he saw more)

Arthur finally lets Merlin into the locked area. The gang traverse a puzzle and eventually find the Genesis seal. Douxie and Merlin watch over it until they can find it a safer hiding spot.

The Traitor is revealed. During the arrest Jim, Toby, and Claire are set guard by the keystone that holds Camelot in time. Merlin realizes that there were two traitors. He remembers Jim fighting Bellroc and immediately gets guards to capture him. It is too late. Jim destroys the Keystone unfreezing Camelot from time and lets the Order in. The people of Camelot fade away

Merlin and Nari face off, Merlin convinces her to side with him. She defects from the Order, feeling the deaths everywhere caused by their dark magic. Douxie flees with the gang (minus Jim, he with the Order as a new Green Knight) with the Genesis Seal, they flee to New Trollmarket to check on the trolls then have to flee to Arcadia to get help from Barbara, Strickler, Krel, Zoë, and the other allies in Arcadia.

This is Chapter 5 for my Trollhunter Tales of Arcadia The Arcane's sister

Chapter 5 Jim's looking a little different

It had been a while, and still no sign of what happened to Jim. Merlin was being cryptic as hell and was absolutely no help whatsoever. One of the others in the room had to restrain me from hiting Meriln in the head and nocking him out.

I was at my house and I couldn't sleep Anxiety then had taken over my thoughts. What if he got seriously hurt? What if we never find him? What if Gunmar or Morgana got him?

My ringtone dragged me back to reality. It was Barbara.

"isabella! Come over quick! We found Jim." I raced out my house door and ran to Jim's house.

When I got there I pounded on the door frantcely.

"bella you're here! Come in." Claire exclaimed with a tired smile, leading me inside. I heard Barbara's voice exclaiming something in the kitchen but ignored it,instead turning my attention to the armoured figured huddled up on the couch next to Toby.

"Is that…" I trailed off.

"Yeah, It's Jim. We don't know exactly what happened because Merlin won't tell us but…we found him at least." Claire sighed,shoulders weighing down.

"Huh…" I mumbeled.

I looked down at Jim. He was taller, for one. His skin and hair were extremely blue, a stark contrast from the incandescent red of his armour. It was hard to believe jim one of my closes't friend's look like this. For a split second I saw red, but I calmed down.

Luckily I didn't have to believe for long, as a loud bang resonating from the back of the house drew me out of my thoughts.

Barbara was still going all out Merlin, Strickler holding her back, but Blinky and AAARRRGGHH had arrived.

"Guys? He's waking up." Claire voiced wavered. My head spun around to face the no longer slumbering half-troll.

"Great grumbly Gruesome." Blinky uttered next to me.

Jim sat up. A horrible decision really, as he was immediately greeted with a headache.

"Honey, do you feel okay?" Barbara quickly seated herself at her son's side.

"He's fine." Merlin hollered as he sat him self down on a stray chair.

"We're not asking you." I snarled. That guy always knew exactly how to be a huge jerk, I'm suprised nobody had murdered him yet. Maybe they might….

"I…I'm fine." Jim murmured to his mother. His attention then quickly turned towards his new apperance.

"Ah! What's wrong with my hand?" Jim howled, clambering up to stand on the couch.

"Nothing's wrong with your hand. It's just a little meatier." Claire attempted to assure him.

"Nice save." I hissed, earning me a jab in the stomach from Toby.

"In a good way." Toby nervously chuckled. "It's like you leveled up."

AAARRRGGHH sniffed at Jim, seemingly being frightened by his scent. He backed up into the kitchen door frame. "No like. No like Troll Jim."

"My elixir transformed our Trollhunter into something not quite human, not quite troll." Merlin intruded again.

"Like a changeling?" Jim mused.

"No. Changelings switch from fully troll to fullly human. Jim is…neither." Strickler explained as he inspected Jim's new form.

Perturbed by all the extra attention, Jim bounded off towards the kitchen. Picking up a toaster from the counter, he checked his appearance.

"This isn't so bad. You know, after a little haircut, we'll find you some sunglasses, maybe a good dentist, huh? You'll be right back to normal." Toby tried to lighten the mood.

"I'm hideous." Jim sighed.

"You're really not." Claire reached to put her hand on Jim's back. The mood lightened with that satement.

"He is now capable of feats we never thought possible." Merlin's voice rose from mumbling behind us. By Deya's grace did this guy ever shut up?

"Like what?" Jim asked. Merlin merely muttered vague attributed like 'inhuman strength' or 'trolling nature' as he ushered us outside to watch Jim train.

"Now then, we don't know the limits of Master Jim's…or should I say 'Troll Jim's' new form, so let's try to take this slowly." Blinky reminded.

"Good one." AAARRRGGHH chuckled at Jim's punches, before flinging him across the backyard. "Troll!"

Yikes, I would say that would say that would hurt but with Jim's new form I'm pretty sure it didn't, it looked like it just tickeled. Lucky him.

"Are you even listening?" Blinky chastised AAARRRGGHH.

"Sorry." AAARRRGGHH muttered.

"Jim? Are you good?" I called out, causing Jim's head to pop out from a bush.

"I didn't feel a thing!" Jim beamed.

"I like new Jim. Troll jim. I got you!" AAARRRGGHH smiled, embracing Jim in a hug he easy broke out of. "Troll Jim strong. Troll Jim fun."

"Half troll, full Hunter. You're welcome." Merlin crowed as Jim and AAARRRGGHH continued to mess about.

"All right, you two. Playtime is over. We're burning night. Let's see what else our new Trollhunter can do." Blinky announced as he led us deeper into the forest to train.

"Fair Claire, the challenge is simple. Land a strike on your beloved Trollhunter." Blinky smirked as he stepped back. Claire portaled up and swing at him from behind, yet he easily dodged. She repeatedly lunged at him but to no avail. They kept at it as they backed up, further into the forest. I just hope neither of them get lost.

Underneath me, the ground violently shook, swaying the trees. I knew exactly what is was.

"You felt that, right? That wasn't just my stomach grumbling?" Toby whimpered.

"I fear those are grumbling of something far more sinister than your digestion." Blinky uttered.

A swirling came from behind us as Claire stepped out of her portal.

"He didn't come back?" Claire choked.

"We thought he was with you!" I exclaimed.

"He was so fast, I lost track of him. I can't find him with the staff. It's like it doesn't recognise him anymore." Claire cried.

"Uh-oh." AAARRRGGHH muttered.

"Claire it's going to be okay." I say as I walk up to her and hug her to calm her down.

Rules

I do all of the T.O.A world except the movie. You can request any of the characters from Trollhunters/3below/Wizards.

I will do scenarios, headcannons, imagines, or drabbles. If you don't specify on which you want I'll be chosing. All asks are gender neutral.

This is an X Reader blog. Please do not send in any character x character ideas or fics. This is only allowed if their in a poly relationship with reader. Go to @dawns-trollhunting-shit to make any requests or asks of character x character fics for T.O.A

You can request up to five characters at a time. Don't just say trolls/humans/aliens/wizards. Specify which characters you want. If it says writers choice it may get written or it may get deleted.

You can just make a general request as well, Example being Trollhunters/3below/Wizards X Reader where the Reader isn't romatically involved their just doing something with the group.

If you say authours choice it might get deleted.

Make prompt/ask clear. Please be specific on what you want.

I don't do line prompts. Unless I reblog from a writing list do not send in a request with a specific line you want. The only exception is if it's something generic like asking a character to say, I love you.

NO PREGNANCY ASKS. (That was a one time thing for a friend after I got inspired. Babies/pregnancy are hard to write as I've never experienced either.)

Angst and fluff requests are aloud! Gore is fine and will be appropriately tagged. Torture can be put in an ask. However anything involving sexual harassment or sex/rape is not okay. The ask will be deleted.

Hi! Here's a really interesting ask. What do you think would change if Barabra had been a wizard?

Merlin does NOT trust Jim in this AU since Barabra was one of the Arcane Order allies pre Killahead.

Jim had to remind the team more than once that murder is illegal, despite Merlin making it tempting.

Morgana still creates the changelings, mostly because past Barabra accidentally gave her the idea while talking about their hatred for Merlin.

So, in this AU Barbara is another shadowmancer and it's another reason for the friction between her and Merlin as she seeked his protection during Camelot times and got no help. However, Morgana took the younger Barbara under her wing giving her some protection.

During the Camelot times, Barbara was really angry with Arthur, Merlin, and the knights. She went to the Arcane Order way before Morgana (as Morgana still tried to appeal to her brother's common sense). However, Barbara didn't reveal her true allegiance at once acting as a spy from within.

Barbara didn't realize the true extent of the Arcane Order's plans - she thought they would simply kill Arthur and Merlin and let Morgana build a better kingdom. So she tried to talk Morgana into switching sides as well. The idea about changelings came when they both lamented how many innocent trolls had no way to escape, which prompted some research from Morgana.

Barbara left the Arcane Order at the same time as Nari because Nari told her about the true plans of the Order. Barbara was horrified because, despite her hatred for Arthur and Merlin, she still wished to stop the unneeded violence.

Barbara was wandering for centuries, just helping people and magical creatures from the shadows. She avoided getting too involved because of the fear of misjudging another faction. Her relationship with James was one she used as a cover (she had a bunch of those before). Jim wasn't planned, but Barbara was happy to have him (as she was secretly tired of being alone).

Jim is a shadowmancer in this AU too. Toby knows his secret and both of them go monster-hunting occasionally (mostly goblins and other small creatures). Ironically, they never stumble upon trolls or Douxie (as Barbara protects Jim with magic which repels everyone too strong for him). Jim also doesn't know much about the magic world as his mother decided to tell him only once he's older.

In this AU, Barbara started dating Strickler after meeting him at Jim's school. She knows that Strickler is a changeling but hopes he will tell her his secret himself.

As for the Trollhunter, it's Claire here. Unlike Jim, she tries to keep it secret from everyone, but Mary and Darci are nosy and find out themselves. Strickler, however, has no idea for a while.

As for Jim, he finds Claire's actions suspicious (not to mention that he senses some magic from the amulet). Initially, he believes that Claire got into some magic-related trouble and wants to help her (as he has a crush on her like in the canon). But first, he needs to know for sure. So there is a lot of tailing - which leads nowhere as Claire tries to be cautious, especially after dragging Mary and Darci into the trouble.

Jim finds out for sure during the Grit-shaka accident, and Claire tells him everything. Jim also shows her his magic.

Jim is the one who exposes Strickler as a changeling during the search. It hurts him a lot as he thinks that Strickler has some ulterior motive to date his mom (like using her magic) because he has no idea that Barbara knows about Walter's true identity.

Barbara knows that Jim sneaks out for monster-hunting, but she has no idea that he became a member of the Trollhunter's team at some point. So, when Jim comes to her and tells her about Strickler, she says that there's no problem as Strickler isn't her enemy. It creates some friction between the mother and son.

Much like in the canon, Strickler takes control over Angor Rot after Bular's defeat. However, here he doesn't use a binding spell as he knows that Barbara knows about his true identity. He even confesses to Barbara that he uses Angor to fight the Trollhunter (as Barbara has no idea who is the Trollhunter and that her son is in that team).

Angor tries to bargain with Claire and Jim, even giving them the shadow staff as proof of his good intentions. Claire is more suspicious, but Jim decides to give him a chance (besides, he's still pissed with Strickler to the point of being willing to cut his finger to get Inferna Copula).

With the Shadow Staff, Jim's magic progress speeds up tremendously (he even starts to wonder why his mother never made him a staff of his own).

Unfortunately for Angor, there is an accident and Inferna Copula is destroyed. Angor goes berserk willing to destroy everything. Barbara learns that Jim was in the Trollhunter's team all this time and that Strickler knew that. She considers the latter the true betrayal and tells Strickler she doesn't want to see him after that.

After Angor's defeat, Claire goes to the Darklands alone. She doesn't know that Jim and Strickler go there too (separately and at different times). Toby, Darci, and Mary are willing to follow their friends, but Vendel forbids them. Blinky and Barbara try to think out a plan for how to get Jim and Claire back (Barbara secretly considers saving Strickler too, even though she is still angry with him).

In the Darklands, Gunmar captures Strickler first. Claire manages to save Enrique and get him out safely, but she goes back at once, after learning that Jim is still there. Meanwhile, Usurna's goons destroy the bridge, refusing to listen to common sense.

As for Jim, he also gets captured and Gunmar gives him the proposal to join his side and start the Eternal Night instead of Morgana. Jim obviously refuses, so Gunmar decides to use mind control. Luckily for Jim, it seems not working as good as Gunmar expected as Jim manages to snap out of it after some seconds. Gunmar is enraged and promises Jim to break his mind first.

Jim ends up in the cell next to Nomura and they bond. They both have no idea that Strickler is also captured as he is kept at a separate location (Claire also ends up there when she is captured). Gunmar plans to keep Jim and Claire separate to break their resistance. He makes a mistake though when he allows Claire to fight Nomura because Nomura tells Claire about Jim (and later informs Jim about Claire). All the captives start to plan their escape.

As for the rest of the team, Barbara uses shadow magic to recover the Killahead and Kanjigar possesses Aaarrrgghh to open the gates (much like in the canon). They save everyone, but Gunmar gets out.

Another horrible consequence of the trip to the Darklands is that Decimaar's mind control actually had an effect, just not the one Gunmar wanted or expected. It allows Morgana to take over Jim's mind every time she wants and she uses it to act independently. Morgana resurrects Angor, contacts changelings she can trust, and gives Gunmar the shelter. Gunmar wants to take over the Trollmarket, but Morgana stops him and asks him to wait until she recovers Merlin's staff. She uses Jim and Angor to track down Douxie and uses him to get to Merlin's tomb. Douxie escapes (together with Merlin who is also awake) and informs the Trollhunters about the state of things. Both Barbara and Claire are furious and wish to go and save Jim. Merlin is against the idea, telling everyone it's pointless. He survives only because Barbara is more invested in saving her son. Claire joins Barbara and they capture Jim together and then travel inside his mind to break the possession. It's more tricky than in the canon because of the Decimaar's influence. Barbara only manages to temporary block Morgana's influence.

Jim is back with the team, but Merlin isn't happy. He believes that Jim is unstable even if Morgana's control is gone for good (which is not the case here). Merlin thinks that Jim might pick the Arcane Order's side like his mother during her young years, so he decides to trick Jim into self-sacrificial scheme which will both deal with Morgana and Jim. And Jim agrees, believing that he is doing the right thing.

Luckily, Mary overhears the conversation and tells the team. That is where the team is on the verge of commiting the murder, but Jim stops everyone.

Claire asks Jim at least wait until she gets Decimaar and breaks its hold on Jim's mind. She travels alone in the hope that no one is hurt, but Jim catches up to her (as he felt she might try something that stupid). They encounter Gunmar and Angor Rot, but Angor refuses to interfere, so Jim and Claire fight Gunmar alone. It's a long fight, but they manage to outwit and kill Gunmar. Now, Jim is free from the Decimaar's control, but it's not the end.

Usurna still starts the conspiracy. Without Gunmar she plans to become the troll empress herself. She contacts Angor Rot and promises him to let him inside the Trollmarket. Meanwhile, Usurna keeps stirring discord, asking trolls if they are ok with living in hiding and letting humans rule the surface. Vendel is against those ideas, but Usurna finds quite a number of allies.

Otto and other changelings infiltrate the Trollmarket and free Morgana. Vendel is injured but manages to get away and warn the rest of the team.

Morgana starts the Eternal Night (she isn't too satisfied with Usurna as her ally, but she thinks it's better option than Gunmar). There is a clash between Usurna allies and trolls who support the Trollhunter. Claire goes to fight Angor, and Merlin attempts to fight Morgana, but loses. Jim comes to help Merlin together with Douxie (mostly to help Douxie), but Morgana is stronger than two of them. Only Barbara's intervention saves the situation. Morgana is upset with her old friend, claiming that Barbara lost her mind, but Barbara doesn't care about those harsh words. Together with Jim and Douxie she defeats Morgana and seals her magic.

Hi! What do you think would happen if Jim was born as Gwen and Arthur's kid, but somehow still meet Claire and Toby?

Oh, that's what I call 'let's give Jim an even messier biological dad'. So, in this AU, Jim is a baby when Gwen dies, so technically he doesn't remember her well enough. Much like in the canon, Arthur starts a crusade against the supernatural and pretty much neglects his son, visiting him only occasionally. Morgana, on the other hand, spends way more time with her nephew (partially because of guilt, but she also genuinely loves Jim). Jim grows a bit, and much to his own horror, Arthur realizes that his only son takes after his mother too much when it comes to curiosity about magical creatures. Jim keeps sneaking out of the castle into the forest and befriending all kinds of magical beings there (including Nari). He also sets free inhuman prisoners rather regularly. And Arthur, instead of reconsidering his stance, is now bound by fear that he will lose the last memento of Gwen. He goes to Merlin looking for the best working solution to keep Jim away from 'dangerous beasts', and this is where those two commit something unforgivable. They put Jim in a time stasis until Arthur obliterates all non-humans.

Unfortunately, nothing goes like planned as Arthur dies and Merlin goes to sleep without giving any instructions how to release Jim.

Barbara in this AU is also from Camelot times. She's Jim's nanny and secretly a witch. She is furious when she learns what Arthur has done to his son and swears to find a way to free Jim. She isn't a powerful or knowledgeable magic user, so it takes her centuries until she manages to do it several years before the beginning of the events in Trollhunters.

As Jim is still a kid, he has less trouble adjusting to the modern world. He is still sad because most of the people he knew are not around anymore (though it's easier with Barbara, who is a true mother figure to him, around). Besides, Jim dreams to become a noble knight which is impossible in the modern world.

On the other hand, Jim still befriends Toby like in the canon, though he doesn't tell him about his origin right away (that happens only after Toby learns about trolls).

As for Jim and Douxie in this AU, those two never met in Camelot times, because technically Jim should be older than Douxie (he would have been an adult by the time Douxie became Merlin's apprentice if Merlin had never trapped him). However, as Jim is physically and mentally the younger one now, Douxie takes over the elder brother role for him when those two meet. It happens soon after Barbara breaks the time stasis as she is friends with Douxie. Initially, Jim is a bit afraid of Douxie as he is Merlin's apprentice and Jim fears that he might be back to that time trap. He opens up once he realizes that Douxie helped Barbara with finding the way to free him.

I think that most of the canon event will still happen. The differences will be:

Jim knowing about the supernatural. He's also not a big fan of fighting for 'the glory of Merlin'. That is his main reason why he wants to refuse the mantle at first. However, later Jim realises that no matter what kind of words are used, the amulet is still meant to protect.

Jim still have some chivalrous mannerisms from his Camelot times and Claire finds it cute. She also teases him about being a prince (as he's is one) and Jim wants to die of embarrassment.

Douxie is obviously involved earlier and Barbara knows about Jim's trollhunting from the very beginning. Barbara still starts to date Strickler and Jim is reluctant to tell her that Walter is a changelling once he learns that. So Barbara still gets bond to Strickler by Angor and only learns the truth later.

When it comes to awaking Merlin, both Jim and Barbara (especially Barbara) are against it. Jim gives in after realizing that they have no other choice.

Morgana doesn't want to harm her nephew, but she thinks about trapping him somewhere so he isn't involved.

Merlin doesn't expect his last Trollhunter to be King Arthur's son. After all, he knows that his champion should become a half-troll, but doing it to his friend's son can be quite a betrayal. Not that it stops Merlin though (or make him think for an alternative).

the reunion between Jim and Arthur in the past is a royal mess. Jim don't even want to confess to his father he is his son (and honestly, both Blinky and Strickler are better in that role).

Jim also can't succeed Excalibur at first because he connects that one to his father too much. He also doesn't want to be a king as he doesn't want to become like his father. Though Aja's example makes him reconsider.

Hi! Here's a slight angsty ask. What if Jim was taken and forced to work for the Arcane Order?

Claire is the Trollhunter in this AU, and Jim is a shadowmancer who can barely remember his human life before working for his bosses.

Jim will also work by the Green Knights side but isn't his student in this one.

However, here Jim is aware that he is a wizard (he just believes that wizards are not part of humanity). His abilities are also his own, however, Bellroc and Skrael work a lot on nurturing his negativity to make his shadow magic stronger. Jim is emotionally unstable in this AU, fighting shadows trying to drive him crazy.

In this AU, Jim has no opportunity to live a human life. He is just an observer. He meets Claire before she finds the amulet (well, meets is rather far-fetched as he simply sees her reciting the lines from Shakespeare and it's love from the first sight). Unknowingly for Claire, she becomes one of the pillars of Jim's sanity as his love is a pure feeling balancing all the negativity in his psyche.

Another one of such pillars is Barbara whom Jim meets by accident when he is injured during one of his missions. Barbara is kind to Jim while treating his wounds (and Jim is subconsciously attached to her, without knowing she is his mother). He keeps visiting her afterward.

During one of those visits, Jim also meets Toby, and befriends him (or more like Toby befriends him and Jim goes with a flow). Toby has no idea about Jim's true identity or that he is a wizard - he thinks that Jim is Barbara's distant relative or something. And Jim is scared to tell him the truth as he was taught that humans hate magic.

Meanwhile, Claire finds the amulet, and Jim does everything to hide from the Arcane Order that she is the new Trollhunter. He protects her from shadows, stopping Bular and killing goblins who try to approach her. The Arcane Order learns the truth anyway but does nothing as Jim's interference is minimal, and they know nothing about his love, so they think it may be some kind of plan from his side (the Arcane Order doesn't question Jim's loyalty as he has never betrayed them).

Claire learns about Jim's existence when he isn't careful enough and fails to hide in time. She is suspicious and demands the answers (initially she thinks that Jim is a changeling which is quickly debunked). Claire has no idea what Jim's motivation is but decides to invite him to the team, partially to keep him under surveillance.

Being around Claire and her team makes Jim hesitant about his own beliefs even more.

The key event for Jim in this AU is meeting Angor Rot and learning about Morgana from him. The Arcane Order has told nothing about her to Jim (he is meant to be their new champion and a substitute for her).

And Jim, despite his conflicting feelings about humans cares about magical creatures, so Morgana enslaving Angor is something against his principles. Jim helps Angor return his soul, getting an ally.

The realization that magical beings and wizards can be also villains makes Jim reconsider his views about the world as black and white. It is the point when he finally realizes that Gunmar is a tyrant who will bring only destruction (before that he helped Claire, but saw no problem in Gunmar getting out) and that humans are not inherently bad (and all the humans he knows are not rare exceptions).

The Arcane Order learns about Jim's betrayal only after the Eternal Night and they send Green Knight to bring him back. Jim is hit by a corrupted shard, which makes his magic go wild and his soul lost inside the Shadow Realm.

Angor Rot helps Claire to get inside the Shadow Realm and find Jim. She manages to connect to him and Jim finally gets the full mastery over the Shadow arts.
