Icarus has spent a lot of today awake. Mostly, they've been busy-ing themself with potion making - though, their hands have been shakier recently, and they've definitely gained a few new scars just today. When they were willing to break away and actually properly sit with their thoughts, they would go outside and sit in front of the cave and braid some flower crowns. (Toward the end of the day, they just kind of curled up and cried. Partially because they just felt like shit and they just want their friend back - and partially because they've driven themself so deep into this pit of guilt that just the thought of grieving him makes them feel like they're doing something *wrong.*)

i finished the remaining episodes of oshi no ko today and honestly. it did get a bit better. i think episode six is a VERY strong and emotional episode that does a great job of establishing the new characters and the reality of their worlds, as well as acting as good social commentary about the entertainment industry and how much is real vs fake and the way reality shows twist the truth to fit their narrative. was very excited for episode seven to continue on that same level, and then. well. aqua happened.
#icarus speaks#i think i just fucking hate aqua 💀#i LOVE the side characters. i love their dynamics and relationships and how their upbringings have changed their perspectives#and how different it is for those that have grown in the limelight vs only recently trust into it#i think it treated akane’s entire situation well and you could really see the spiral/decline#and the kids’ relationships seem real! they do care about each other!#even the two boys who didn’t get much screen time felt grounded#but by fucking god aqua just disrupts everything#he offsets the whole show and not in a good way#like is his discrepancy intential? yes. he’s a grown ass man#but it’s not GOOD. it’s too much.#i would probably LOVE the show if he wasn’t in it because honestly 90% of my issues are his fault

its so sad when a story has all the perfect components for a good romance, but the author doesn't know how to write romance/put those components together to make a compelling dynamic and story.
#finished vol2 of battle angel alita (and started vol3) and I have alot of thoughts#first of all that I REALLY LIKE it. to my own surprise#I usually have a knee jerk negative reaction to het romance and have to warm up to it over time#but from the start i... liked alita and yugo's interactions?#but seeing how one sided alita's feelings were was unfortunate#which is a shame because it had such a good setup for a 'fell first/fell harder' type of thing that would've made the tragedy of yugo's#death all the more impactful#but apart from that. individual scenes/ideas that were rlly good that felt wasted for such an emotionally empty dynamic:#-alita beheading jugo and keeping the head alive with her own heart so that he would survive a cyborg operation.#-the whole Romeo/Juliet parallel#-THE HAND IMAGERY HOLY SHIT#YUGO EXCHANGING HIS HAND FOR HIS BROTHERS SO HE CAN ALWAYS KEEP A PIECE OF HIM/HIS DREAM WITH HIM#THE ONLY THING BEING LEFT OF HIM FOR ALITA TO REMEMBER HIM BY BEING HIS HAND#also the Yugo and Icarus imagery. I was walking my neighbor’s dog this morning and I was not very awake so I’ve just remembered that I spent the entire time in a vague hazy state of annoyance at the characterization in brave new world from echoes and refractions
#ik I posted some excerpts from it in like a semi positive light and I do still like the part#where ro laren is thinking about how if she had a sister she might be like sito#but I gotta be honest I think it was one of those ‘for a moment I was so caught up in sito jaxa content that for a moment#I forgot that the characterization for wesley was not very good’#harder to complain about jaxa characterization like it doesn’t match mine but I’m aware that there’s only so much canon basis#but the wesley characterization felt like projection more often than not#like idr how/if it dealt with the crash because they’re both still in starfleet so that’s already something you have to account for#(or I guess you don’t Have To I can’t tell them what to do but it was weird how little it did)#but it also refers to wesley as not understanding people/being bad with people#and especially pre-crash I don’t think that’s true in the sense it’s being used there#he doesn’t have trouble making initial connections and while he seemingly has issues maintaining long term friendships/relationships#that’s a different thing and seems to be at least partly situational bc the first time he makes real friends is when they’re on even ground#and again. icarus factor B plot.#with like figuring out worf is upset and working very hard to help him#which I suppose you can argue about intuitive vs deliberately observational understanding but it is There#you can see my thoughts deteriorating I just think people need to know and perceive better#san rant

“Nothing that I’m not bound by legality to specifically not tell,” he sighed, feeling mild relief as shade poured into the sidewalk. “Just because I’m not a State Alchemist anymore doesn’t particularly mean I’m not randomly gonna get shot just because I vaguely mentioned the coup from a few years back.”

“I mean-- I have some stories, I guess. Most of ‘em aren’t that exciting.” A pause. “A quarter of my trip in Aerugo was just being stuck in an inn because of an illness that I didn’t want to get. I haven’t exactly had much time to ‘live life’, or whatever the hell.”

Russell gave a hum of acknowledgement. “Mm. Yeah, I can relate. While travelling from Xenotime to Central, Fletcher and I both came down with something while we were stopped in Marrien.” His nose scrunched as he recalled it; just another side effect of having worked closely with the red water.
He sighed deeply, the kind an exhausted dog would make upon laying down.
“I’m not gonna stand here and pretend it’s been all sunshine and rainbows, moving from Xenotime to Central. In fact, I’ll be completely honest with you and say it was a massive pain in the ass. But. I’ll spare you the trauma dumping.”
It seemed they’d finally found a lapse in conversation, if the quiet that strung between them was anything to go off of.
