what being asexual* is like for those who dont understand

*(or on the ace spectrum)

in a group of people, everyone is given a small bag of good ol' fashioned m&ms. the person handing out the bags tells everyone "the blue ones taste the best!"

so everyone starts to open their bags and looks inside or pouring theirs into their hands to count how many blue m&ms they have comparing to how many their friends do. it's very exciting! "i have two!" and "i have three!" and "i'll trade you some red for a blue!"

everyone is having a good time.

you look down at your bag of m&ms and furrow your brows. they all taste the same... right? but you open your bag and pour them into your hand. red, yellow, green, brown, orange.... oh. no blue. you feel the bag and - nope. none left. you simply have no blue m&ms.

someone comes up to you and asks how many blue m&ms you have. you're a bit embarassed tell this person you have no blue candies because everyone else is making such a big deal about it. but you tell them that no, you have no blue m&ms. they tell you to look in your bag again.

the person after that feels bad for you when you tell them you dont have any blue ones.

someone else comes up later and asks if you have some blue m&ms. you tell them you dont and ask why it matters because they all taste the same anyway? they give you a weird look and walk away.

you know all the m&ms taste the same and dont get why the person in charge thinks blue ones taste different, or even better for that matter, and yet, but everyone else is still very excited about the blue ones.

in the way you dont have blue m&ms, we simply do not feel the sexual attraction* aspect of relationships

*((demi/grey: without having blue ones, you personally like the orange m&ms most (they're your favorite color!) and after meeting someone you find out they like the blue and orange the most, equally))
