Romanced!DAI Companions and Advisors (+ Platonic!Vivienne) when The Inquisitor returns to Skyhold late
(A/N: Heyyyy guys... I've missed you :) This past few months have been awful for me... but I'm back... teeheehee
I think this is gonna be really niche so I feel a need to explain what I was thinking??? Basically, The Inquisitor has been on a mission for a while now and they're returning extremely late at night.
Apologies for the inaccurate lore stuff, I don't think hours exist in Dragon Age because they don't have clocks? Or they do??? I dunno man I got a final tomorrow and I don't know if I'm gonna pass
Just know that the whole reason I got inspired for this was because it was late and I was imagining Vivienne watching The Inquisitor come back and her wrapping her robe around her waist like a mom watching their grown child come home from a rave or something
Once again, no beta we die like men
And happy late dragon age day, love y'all)
TW: Mentions of death
Blackwall/Thom Rainer: Unable to sleep. He’s waiting, whittling at the griffon he keeps. He doesn’t want to sleep anways, who will greet his lover? The wind? No. He’ll stay up, just for a few minutes longer, he tells himself… But soon he finds himself whittling into the early hours of the morning. That’s when there’s a stir of the guards, the whispers, and alerts are quiet, as to not wake up the many souls sleeping, but the message is clear.
His love has returned. And he will wait by the gate, a grin on his face and sleepiness in his eyes. He greedily hopes his lover may wish to sleep a few hours before the rest of Skyhold truly awakens.
Cassandra: She’s in bed, but not sleeping, reading a book. She’s trying to sleep, but her anxieties are getting to her. Somehow, ever since she got the letter saying that her love was returning, she fears even more. Her mind is plagued with images of an assassinated Inquisitor on the way back to her. Maker! Why didn’t that fool just bring her?
Just as she scoffs, she hears something of a commotion outside. She prays for a moment, the news is good, and she throws on her armor, knowing better than to leave her room without it, and rushes to the gate. This is where her fears are put to rest as she greets her lover, a relieved smile on her face. And it is with this her sleepiness finally settles in. after a quick word, she urges her lover to rest, with or without her. All that matters that they returned.
Cullen Rutherford: He hasn’t slept since his lover left. A few moments where he stares off into space, drifting off before yanking himself back into consciousness. So it feels normal for him as he scribbles away the missives on his desk, being sure to double check each one so he didn’t accidentally write something foolish in his sleep deprived state. Somehow, in this half-dead state of his, he can hear the murmuring of guards outside of his door, and one enters.
The guard has been ordered to inform Cullen of when they see The Inquisitor, so when they enter, Cullen knows what it’s for. And somehow, the sleepiness Cullen once had disappears, replaced with a drive he always feels when his lover returns. He rushes down the battlement steps, sure to not seem too desperate to his men. And in his excitement, he quickly meets his lover halfway on the bridge. They may be on their horse, but Cullen will happily walk back with them, looking up at them like they hold his whole world in their hands. When his lover gets off their horse, however, that is when he embraces them, a chaste kiss pressed to their cheek. This is when he finally asks them to rest with him, as his exhaustion is coming to bite him in the ass.
Dorian Pavus: Dorian has lied to himself multiple times throughout the night. He lied to himself claiming he didn’t care if he was asleep when his amatus returned from their very dangerous mission. So he lays in his bed for hours, trying to sleep. And when he can’t? He lies to himself, coming up with some excuse as to why his mind will not rest. So he waits in the library, sipping a glass of wine while attempting to read nonchalantly. Of course, he seemingly can’t. So he decides to wait on the battlements, claiming he must need some fresh air. Even though he despises how cold it is that night.
But, somehow, without meaning to, he notices the small group of people making their way across the bridge. And, without a reason at all, a huge weight is lifted off of Dorian’s shoulders.
He lets out a sigh and returns to the warmth of the library, happy to wait for his lover to come to him. And when he does, only then does Dorian finally agree to go to sleep.
Iron Bull: Doesn’t sleep, but this is because he knew his lover was coming back tonight. So he waits patiently in the tavern, a ear out and ready, waiting for murmurs of The Inquisitor’s return. And when he does hear, he happily shoots up from his chair and makes his way to the gate, happy to greet his lover.
Bull was only slightly worried to be away from his lover, he knew they could handle their mission without him, but still, who knows what could happen? But the news that The Inquisitor was coming back? That was enough to settle his nerves. But seeing… and feeling his lover in his arms? That is what truly relaxes him.
Josephine Montilyet: Josephine is the only one who is asleep, she was corralled to his bedroom by Leliana, who told Josephine that she would wake her up when The Inquisitor returned. True to her word, Leliana gently shook awake a sleepy Josephine who, wrapped in a robe, quickly made her way to the empty Great Hall. She situated herself onto Vivienne’s balcony. She happily watched her lover pass the gates a promptly made their way to her, greeting her with a gentle kiss, which Leliana thankfully turned away from. Afterwards she’s happy to lead her lover to bed, as the second the pair’s heads hit the pillow, the pass effortlessly into a dreamless sleep.
Sera: Sera’s mindlessly making arrows, her door is locked, as she grew tired of Cole trying to make his way into the room to encourage Sera to talk about her anxieties surrounding her Inky leaving without her. She doesn’t even know her lover has returned until she hears the door jiggle a bit before her lover’s voice calls, “Sera, I saw the light was on, are you awake?”
This is when Sera happily throws the door open and grabs her Inky and drags them inside her room, into her arms. The two were eventually found the next morning by a messenger, who reported The Inquisitor and Sera were fast asleep in a pile of various blankets and pillows.
Solas: Solas isn’t sleeping much either, somehow he can’t take his mind off of his vhenan. He completely understand why his lover would take another person on their adventure, potentially a different mage than him. But he worries when they’re away! And there’s not much to do in Skyhold when The Inquisitor is gone. Most servants and nobles steer clear from him. He busies himself painting the various frescos in the atrium. He’s just taken a break and decided to walk along the battlements, and that’s of course, when he sees his beloved. He’s happy to walk down the stairs of the battlements and meet his lover at the gate, awaiting them with open arms. He happily leads them away, whether to their bed in their room, where Solas will leave them to rest. Or if they prefer, they can spend a bit of time in the atrium alone, Solas would be happy to hear the stories of his vhenan’s journey.
Varric Tethras: Varric is rotating between the tavern and The Great Hall. Ever since he first got the letter from his lover, happily informing him of their return, he’s only been more nervous. Like Cassandra, he fears the image of a truly tragic hero, beaten down on the way back to the arms of their lover.
He thinks he’s been writing too much tragedy when he firsts gets that mental image
Nevertheless, he pushes through the night.
Eventually, he’s sitting at his usual spot near the fire, unhappily grumbling to himself, sounding like a real dwarf. His mind is racing, and he can’t seem to get the thoughts to stop. So, for one last time that evening, he walks out of the hall, preparing to return to the tavern for a drink and a song from Maryden. That’s when he sees his beloved standing by the gate, quietly talking with a solider who leads their horse away. They’ve returned and they’re safe, that’s all he needed to know.
When The Inquisitor finally catches a glimpse of their lover, all they see is a bright grin spread across his face.
Varric is happy to go along with whatever The Inquisitor wants, bed, a drink, a tale by the fire, he’s just relieved they’ve returned.
Vivienne: Vivienne lies to herself. The day that she hears The Inquisitor will be returning that evening, she nods and nonchalantly walks away. Yet she finds herself constantly checking the gate everytime there is movement in that direction. She has no idea why, however. Her friend, whom she doesn’t really call friend, is taking an awful long amount of time to just get back to Skyhold.
She justifies her musings on The Inquisitor’s safety as rationally as she can. If The Inquisitor dies, Thedas will be lost. If The Inquisitor dies, her position in court may affected. If The Inquisitor dies, she will be sad-
That is what gives her pause. She straightens her back, hands quickly going to her face as if to smooth out her frown that was previously there, and then she turns on her heel and returns to her sofa. She attempts to swallow down her fear the entire day, but as the night swiftly covers Skyhold, she finds herself unable to sleep. The moons is high in the sky when she emerges from her room, robe tightly wrapped around her. She is sure not a single soul will see her in such a… vulnerable state. She quickly makes her way to the balcony again, and stays there for what feels like an entire age. But just as she gets ready to sigh and return to a sleepless night in her bed, she hears a disturbance coming from the gate. That is where she sees The Inquisitor, alive and perhaps wrapped in the arms of lover. And with a sigh of… relief? She quietly returns to her chambers. Never speaking of this again.

Cullen Rutherford x Lavellan reader
During the two years after Corypheus' defeat, Lavellan had to leave for months on end to seek her allies to keep the Inquisition afloat. Amidst the diplomatic endeavors, a letter from Cullen finds its way to her. author’s note: I'm writing this because I absolutely love Dragon Age. It's one of my favorite game franchises and I adore Cullen. Tumblr needs more Cullen. This is probably my favourite one shot I wrote ever. wordcount: 1,3k
The days are getting frustrating.
She has been working day in and day out to keep peace between her allies to bring them to compromises over the Inquisition. She was after all, in title still, the Inquisitor. Her unwavering commitment led her to bend rules and relinquish much, driven by an unshakeable determination. A lingering sense of unease gnawed at her, as if some malevolent force lurked in the shadows, ready to exploit any moment of vulnerability. The Avvar tribes from Frostback Basin were the least helpful and indulgent in her needs. She needed their written support in the continuation of the Inquisition and be part of the protectors of the realm and with such a generous and honorable offer she was humbled.
Humbled by bitter words and disapprovals beyond measures. After two days of diplomatic quarrels and revisiting the pros and cons of their alliances they still hadn't made up their mind.
She sat at a desk made of bones and dark wood with her head in her hands. She had to come to the realization that soon it would be the end. No one believed the Inquisition useful any longer, no one believed her to be of use no more. No matter how hard she'd work to keep the fires of hope burning, it was now a mere flicker as she reminisce the past.
She missed the old days, the action, the adventure with her friends. She missed Bull and his teasing; her reading times with Cassandra when the world wasn't burning; her chess games with Dorian, her endless training with Blackwall; her drinking friend, Sera and Josephine and her stupid dancing lessons that she'd grown to love. Amidst the nostalgia, a pang of longing hit her for the one she left behind months ago to pursue her quest: her beloved, Cullen.
Closing her eyes, she let the scenes unfold in her mind's eye—the tentative glances exchanged in Haven, the warmth of their shared laughter amidst the chaos of the Inquisition's formation, and the quiet moments stolen in the tranquility of Skyhold. But one memory she'd always cherish was the day he'd invited her for a game of chess, a game Dorian has taught her and he was a very severe teacher.
The flickering candlelight bathed the room in a warm, golden glow as Lavellan and Cullen sat across from each other, an ornate chessboard laid out between them. The air hummed with anticipation, the only sound the subtle clink of chess pieces being moved.
Lavellan's fingers danced gracefully over the carved ivory pieces, her eyes alight with a strategic fervor that belied her calm demeanor. "Your move, Commander," she teased, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Cullen raised an eyebrow, feigning seriousness. "I must admit, Inquisitor, I wasn't expecting such a challenge."
She grinned, capturing a pawn with a swift move. "Well, Commander, it seems elves aren't just skilled with a bow. We have a few tricks up our sleeves when it comes to chess as well."
Cullen chuckled, a warmth spreading across his face. "I'll remember to never underestimate you."
The game unfolded with a balletic precision, each move a careful dance of intellect and banter. Cullen, initially taken aback by the unexpected prowess of his opponent, watched in awe as Lavellan executed her strategies flawlessly.
As the tension mounted, Lavellan leaned back, studying the board with a playful twinkle in her eyes. "Your move, Commander. Don't tell me you're surrendering already."
Cullen's gaze met hers, a mock-serious expression on his face. "Never, Inquisitor. I just enjoy keeping you on your toes."
With a triumphant smile, Lavellan declared checkmate. Cullen's surprise was evident, his eyes widening in genuine admiration. "Well played," he conceded, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Lavellan leaned in, a sly grin playing on her lips. "A game well fought, Commander. Perhaps you'll catch me off guard next time."
Cullen leaned back, a subtle twinkle in his eye as he crossed his arms. "One can only hope, Inquisitor. Surprises can be quite... captivating, after all."
The victory wasn't just in the game but in the shared laughter that followed, a playful banter that hinted at the deeper connection blossoming between them. She couldn't help but smile at the memory of that victorious chess match—the strategic moves, the playful banter, and the spark of flirtation that hinted at the beginning of something more profound between them.
They've been through the hells and back and their love was stronger than it ever was, but this didn't mean she didn't miss him any less. He was on her mind every night and every morning, wishing he'd be there next to her. He would comfort her and make her laugh to ease the frustration that plagued her.
"What would you do, Cullen?" She'd muttered under her breath while pinching the bridge of her nose.
A knock on the door of her cabin echoed and she rushed to opened the door hoping to receive positive news of the clan chiefs, but was met with a messenger from Skyhold.
"Inquisitor, a letter for you." The man offered her the folded parchment with the sigil of Kirkwall molded in the red wax that held the paper from revealing the words written inside. She thanked the man and returned to her desk with her eyes glued on the wax seal. The Inquisitor's heart raced as she carefully unfolded the parchment, a mix of anticipation and longing swirling within her chest.
"My Dearest Vhenan,
I find myself surrounded by the quiet shadows of Skyhold, the empty halls echoing with the absence of your laughter. In these moments, I am acutely aware of the words I struggle to say, the gestures I fumble, and the emotions that elude my grasp. So, in the silence that separates us, I turn to this parchment, attempting to weave the sentiments I cannot articulate in person.
The future of the Inquisition has scattered us like leaves in the wind, and each step away from you feels like a stumble in the dark. It is in these quiet spaces, where your presence is most keenly missed, that I realize the depth of what we shared. You, my love, are the melody in the chaos, the anchor in the storm, and the warmth in the cold solitude.
I am not gifted with eloquence when it comes to matters of the heart, and my attempts at grand gestures often fall short. Yet, in the silent chambers of my thoughts, you are ever present, a constant hum in the background of my consciousness. Your courage, your kindness, and the way your eyes light up with passion have become the compass guiding my way.
As we find ourselves on separate paths, know that you are the sun on my horizon, the spark that refuses to be extinguished. I miss you more than words can convey, and with each passing day, the ache of your absence grows. Every quiet moment serves as a reminder of your touch, and every fleeting memory stirs a longing within me.
In these lines, I attempt to bridge the distance that stretches between us, to convey what my stumbling words fail to express. Until the day our paths cross again, carry with you the truth that you are missed, loved, and cherished beyond measure. The ink on this parchment may be a poor substitute for the warmth of my embrace, but it carries the essence of a heart that beats for you.
Yours, always and with all that I am,
Cullen" With each word, she felt the weight of Cullen's emotions, the sincerity of his struggles to express what lay in the depths of his heart. A tender smile curved her lips as the ink on the page painted a vivid picture of his love.
Her fingers traced the lines of the letter, as if seeking a tangible connection to the man who had become her anchor in the chaos of Thedas. The sincerity of his words resonated within her, echoing the sentiments she had sensed but had not dared to voice aloud.
As she reached the end of the letter, a gentle warmth enveloped her, like a soft embrace that bridged the physical distance between them. Tears welled in her eyes, not from sorrow, but from the overwhelming realization that she was deeply, wholly loved. In that solitary moment, she felt an unspoken bond, a connection that transcended the miles that now lay between them. With a soft sigh, she whispered, "I'll be with you soon, vhenan," as if the wind could carry her words across the continent.

For the ship thing, the most popular ship in your current fandom! And also for an old fandom, Josephine x Blackwall.
omg thank you for choosing this pariring bc I have strong feelings about this actually! :D Josie x Blackwall:
I DON’T SHIP IT
Why don’t you ship it? I don't like Joesphine :') and I do like Blackwall (even if it depends on what kind of an OC I'm playing and who Blackwall interacts with) - I really enjoyed his romance and I've never seen a better redemption arc. Josephine refuses to act on their mutual affection bc he's below her station even before the Revelations quest.
What would have made you like it? If Josie wasn't so judgy abt killing people while admitting to have done it herself. I understand her not pursuing their romance after Revelations but she could have treated him better as a human being. This makes me think she was more invested in the idea of Blackwall ("look what a bad girl I'm being, flirting with this rugged hunk with low social status") rather than him as a person.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? Of course - I really like the general dynamic of a man humbly admiring an immensely capable woman. And that woman falling for someone ~below her station~ is always *chef's kiss* I'd be willing to check out some fan fiction if someone recommended it to me but I'm not gonna go look for it and I can't ship it as it is in the game if that makes sense.
current fandom I'm afraid is still Dragon Age because I went back to replay the whole trilogy :')))) but like purely based on (perceived by me :D) number of fan girls, I'm gonna say:
Cullen x f!inquisitor I DON’T SHIP IT
Why don’t you ship it? Bc vast majority of ppl who do, make cullen into some misunderstood disney prince. He's a bigot in recovery, not someone who made a couple mistakes
What would have made you like it? If people accepted and embraced his past more
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? Absolutely. Cullen deserves happiness and the inquisitor deserves a to retire somewhere nice and quiet after being so politically exposed for so long and have the weight of the world rest on their shoulders. Also, if you don't choose the most romantically default dialogue options, it's much more fun and it gave more realistic and less disney vibes (to me at least)

✨20 Questions for Fic Writers✨
thanks @nirikeehan for the tag!
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
42
2. what’s your total ao3 word count?
226,296
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Dragon Age at the moment, plus a hint of Dishonored. In the past I've also written for The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunter Chronicles and MCU.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
Grace In Denial: oneshot, f!Hawke x Anders - mostly fluff with a hint of emotional hurt/comfort Ended in Love: oneshot, f!Trevelyan x Cullen - some classic mage-Templar angst (cw: forced sterilization, abuse) Lamentations of the Living: oneshot, f!Mahariel x Alistair - the Dark Ritual/Ultimate Sacrifice debate It Will Have To Be Enough: oneshot, f!Lavellan x Cullen - Cullen waits for her to come back at Adamant Conditionally: oneshot, f!Lavellan x Cullen - Lavellan's clan does not approve of her relationship with a human
5. do you respond to comments?
I try! But I am very slow at it, and when the backlog gets too much I psych myself out about it. Currently working on convincing myself that it's not weird to reply to comments from many months ago😅
6. what’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably Mostly A Lie,about an Inquisitor who breaks up with Blackwall at his judgement and a Blackwall POV of her subsequent relationship with Cullen
7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Apple Whiskey, which is an all around fluffy fic about Alistair helping my Inquisitor Neria escape one of Josephine's parties.
8. do you get hate on fics?
I haven't yet, nope! And I know that if I did, I would bitch about it to my friends, block the user, and delete the comment. So what if we just didn't, hm?
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
A bit, perhaps. It's an eventual goal of mine to be more comfortable writing it, but that's definitely a work in progress.
10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nope! Personally not a fan of crossovers.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope!
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sort of, as I participated in the DAFF Discord Server round robin anniversary event where we all popcorn wrote a crackfic. Other than that, nope! I think it could be really fun, though :3
14. what’s your all-time favorite ship?
Horation Caine x Marisol Delko (CSI: Miami - I will never write fic for them but their canon story makes me f e r a l)
15. what’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
My Inquisitor!Carver AU. The idea is compelling af, but I have other DAI retellings that I want to write more.
16. what are your writing strengths?
Character backstory, description in general
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
DIALOGUE, dialogue tags, making endings (to chapters or oneshots) sound like endings without being cheesy AF
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I like it, both as a reader and a writer! It can be used well for character flavoring, but is also frequently misused in a way that makes fic harder to read. If it's large chunks of text, especially with plot relevant information, I prefer another indicator that the language has shifted, like italics or a dialogue tag. I think it works best when the author has a reason for it besides "they're speaking another language", like they don't want the readers to understand what's being said, or the character is trying to deceive someone who doesn't speak that language.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
MCU Avengers
20. favorite fic you’ve ever written?
HMMMM probably a toss up between Inquisitor as a Companion: Neria Surana Lavellan (faux DA wiki page entry for my inquisitor) and after all this survival (a snapshot of Siobhan Hawke as Viscountess in Kirkwall)
Blank template below the cut! Tagging: @oxygenforthewicked | @rosella-writes | @demarogue | @plisuu | @exalted-dawn-drabbles | and anyone who wants to use me as their excuse to do this :3

Part 1 of My “Husband” Varric
This was supposed to be the entire thing but I kinda got sidetracked writing the party member's banter. But not to worry, this will only be two parts and part two will be posted and linked shortly.
Summary: Somehow, the information that the inquisitor is, in fact, very single gets leaked and proposals and suitors start pouring in to try and win the heart of the Herald of Andraste. The information was leaked by none other than Varric, albeit accidentally, so as punishment and a way to try and fix the problem, you say that Varric is your husband. But as your charade continues, feelings develope...?
Fem!Inqisitor x Varric
Word Count: 1,297
"Ok, who was it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know." You ask your inner circle, trying to keep your tone as gentle and calm as possible as you all stand gathered around in Josephine’s office.
"What? You think one of us did it?" Blackwall laughs, in almost disbelief.
"Not intentionally, no. But we believe that one of you may have off-handedly mentioned it and it may have taken on a life of it's own." Josephine answers. She was the first to feel the effects of the rumor, as hundreds upon hundreds of proposals for the inquisitor were mailed in.
Sera raised her hand. "S'cuse me, Lady Shiny Pants, but why aren't Creepy and Mister-more-elvhen-than-thou here? Shouldn't they be interrogated along with us?"
"Cole and Solas have been ruled out." You answer.
"If they have been ruled out, then why am I here?" Cassandra scowls.
"Yeah, boss. I mean even if somebody did manage to let it slip, harm could people knowing you're avaible do?" Iron Bull chimed in.
"What harm?" Josephine said, incredulously. "Well, to start with, there's them." She walks over to the office door and pulls it open to reveal the hall full suitors dressed to the nines, and holding everything from bouquets to chests full of jewels and finely made dresses crowding around the door yelling 'Inquisitor!' as soon as they spotted her.
“Ah. Right.” The qunari gave her a sheepish grin.
She gave Bull a tight smile as she quickly shut the door.
“They’re the reason the entire castle’s been sent into chaos. Did you know one of those pompous little shits came into my office asking me ‘Where’s the inquisitor?’ and then called me ‘incompetent oaf’ when I told him that I didn’t know. Wanted to throttle the bastard by skinny little neck.” Cullen said, his hand curling with the memory of the incident.
"As soon as the information was let out, some of our alliances have requested for the inquisitor's hand in marriage or they'll pull their support. The inquisition has made a name for itself and has become quite the power house. The Inquisitor is our leader and as such, she too, holds a lot of power. It wouldn't take the brightest person to realize that securing a marriage with her would be a great move." The ambassador said as she returned to the inquisitor’s side.
"But that isn't the worst of it." You grab a wooden crate half your size full of letters from behind Josephine's desk and drop it in front of them. "These were all sent by my mother. Any eligible person on the continent you can think of is probably here." You gestured towards the box. “And these are from yesterday alone.”
“Well, shit.” Varric says as he scans the content of the letters.
“And I thought my family wanted me to get married.” Dorian laughs, as he grabs a handful of letters and starts skimming over them.
“It can’t be that bad. Everyone in Thedas is vying for your hand.” Vivievienne states, reviewing the possible candidates Dorian handed her. “I say enjoy it, and use it to your full advantage.”
“This one looks quite promising. Look, says here that he’s about your age, a merchant, likes sunsets and going to cafe’s. ” Iron Bull says, flipping around a letter to show the brief summary of the man and as well as the tiny picture of him that came in it.
“Pish posh.” Dorian waves him off. “This one says he’s a Duke from Nevarra with a very sizeable fortune and as well as beautiful summer mansion. Also says he likes to cook and has a sizable library. The only problem being is that he looks like he was alive to witness when Andraste became the maker’s bride.”
“I like this one. He’s got a cool scar and hair that looks like he just got struck by lighting.” Sera laughs, showing you the picture.
“It also says he spent three years in prison for smuggling illegal goods.” You respond.
“Eh, minor details.” She shrugs.
“This is pointless.” Cassandra huffs, crossing her arms. “We need to do is-”
“Look! This one says he’s a Pentaghast!” Blackwall shouts pulling another letter from the box.
Cassandra was at his side in the blink of an eye. “Who is it?!”
“Would everybody please-”
Your interrupted by Lelliana as she strides into the room, a triumphant smile on her face. “I’ve found the leak!”
“Who?” You all ask simultaneously.
“Varric.”
“What? Me?” The dwarf asks, outraged.
“Why am I not surprised?” Cassandra glares at him. “First you keep Hawke from us and now you sabotage the Inquisition with your loose tongue.”
“He didn’t do it intentionally, Cassandra. At least, I believe he didn’t.” The spymaster pulls out a letter from her pocket. “We believe you may have said it in a letter to your cousin, Vidar. At least, that's who we think it is. Your penmanship is quite hard to make out in this one."
He takes the letter from her hands as realization dawns on him. "Oh, yeah! I remember this. I wrote it when I was dru…" He trails off, before giving the inquisitor a sheepish smile.
"How did the subject of the inquisitor's relationship status end up in your letter?" Dorian asks, raising   his perfectly trimmed brows.
"Well, I was near blakout drunk and my cousin wouldn’t shut up about just how amazing his new business was going and I was going through bit of a bout of homesickness so I couldn’t help but brag a bit too. I only said, ‘You’d think that with how powerful and beautiful she is, the Herald of Andraste would have someone but I guess saving the world does keep a person busy’.”
“I don’t know if I want to thank you for the compliment or knock upside the head for being the cause of all of this.”
“I didn’t think the little shit would go around spreading it about.” He threw his arms up.
“It’s okay, my lady. We can fix this.” Leliana reasures you. “My spies can track down the source of the rumour and take care of it.”
“So…?” Dorian makes a slicing motion across his neck.
“No! There are easier ways to deal with this.” Josephine looked aghast at Dorian.
“Well, I’m open to any other suggestions.” The spymaster looked expectantly at the ambassador.
“I could get engaged.” You say, as everyone turns in to you in a stunned silence. “Now, now… Don’t look at me that way. It’ll be fake. I’ll get engaged with someone which will make it impossible for them to try and use me as power grab or leverage for an alliance. Leliana and Josephine can use the spies to spread the news of the engagement, we parade together as couple for a few months and when this whole Corypheus thing is finally over, we “mysteriously” break it off for reasons unknown. It’s perfect.”
“That… might actually work. The question lies in who will be the your bethrothed.”
“Oh, of that I’m sure you will find no shortage.” Leliana laughed looking at the party, making some of them bashfully turn away.
“I think this should be fixed by the same person who started it, don’t you, Varric?” You say staring at Varric.
"You know, Varric would be the perfect candidate. He's practically the prince of the merchant's guild, well-connected and was an ally of the Champion of Kirkwall. A union between the two of you wouldn't pose further questions."
"Why, Ambassador, I'm flattered…" He smiles, a hand on his chest.
"Alright then, it's settled. Come on, hubby." You stretch your arm out to the dwarf. " Let's go tell my horde of suitors that I am, unfortunately, taken."
"Lead the way." He says, taking your arm.

Dragon Age Writing Prompts
For @dadrunkwriting <3
You can specify a character or a ship or neither, and I am also down for poems and song lyrics not mentioned here (in fact, I love to be introduced to your favs, so don’t be shy!)
I have edited to include some general tone notes for ships/characters, to help those of you unfamiliar with my stable of creatures.
My OCs: - Alethea Trevelyan (Mage inquisitor, a bit posh, ANGST) - Niva Lavellan (Rogue inquisitor, rather elfy, humor and some angst) - Morgon Trevelyan (Assassin inquisitor, villain?/antihero, humor, danger) Romantic (canon) Pairings: - Alethea/Cullen (fraught, lots of baggage to work through) - Niva/Cullen (fluffy and fraught) - Niva/Solas (relationship ended like in canon, she moved on to Cullen) - Morgon/Cassandra (enemies to lovers, like, foreal) - Morgon/Flissa (it’s sweet and spicy. Too sweet to last lol)
Romantic (non-canon but plausible) Pairings: - Alethea/Duke Gaspard  - Alethea/Blackwall - Niva/Krem - Niva/Blackwall - Morgon/Dorian (okay this is a bit canon) - Morgon/Josephine - Morgon/Morrigan - Morgon/Hawke (any gender)
Romantic (crackship) Pairings: - Alethea/Solas - Niva/Briala - Morgon/Viv - ....anyone/Viv, really. God I love Viv. I should make her an LI. - Morgon/Leliana - Morgon/Cullen - Morgon/Celene - Morgon/anyone really, gimme your best shot
I’m also open to pretty much any Platonic Pairings!

Note
For positive fandom asks, 8, 9, 15
8. you hope more people will come to appreciate _ (a ship, a trope, an episode, etc)
Cullen and Samson's doomed friendship. Inquisitor x Blackwall anything. Maybe some more hideous Samson x Inquisitor depictions? I am so vain.
9. a ship that isn't your OTP but that you enjoy
I really dig Cullen x Cassandra, weirdly. I think it could work! And also Blackwall x Cassandra. I also think Sera x Dagna is cute and I keep meaning to write them into Kingdom Come, but the spoons have been in such short supply lately, my friends. :(
15. the character that always makes you smile
Cullen. Dagna. Josephine.

Would Romanced!DAI Companions Duel for their Inquisitor?
It's heavily implied that the Inquisitor is female, so skip if that ain't your cup of tea. I have included Krem, Dagna, and Harding in this but left out Cassandra, Dorian, and Solas since... it's implied that the Inquisitor is a female... and a human one at that.
Sowwy.
Blackwall/Thom Rainer: It depends on whether or not his identity was released. Before, he’s more hesitant, but once he sees how upset his lover is with the news, he’s pissed. He fights for his lover, but not just to take their hand, more so to free his lover from the binds of an arranged marriage. After his identity is revealed, he’s worried that his claim will be even more scrutinized. But once again, if he sees his lover upset, he immediately challenges The Inquisitor’s betrothed. The fight may take a while, as he gets pretty upset when the man Blackwall/Rainer is dueling starts taunting or insulting him.
Cullen Rutherford: Yes. So much yes. He’s furious. Especially when Josephine initially explains that there is very little they can do. The whole process would take a few months at the least, and there’s no guarantee that The Inquisitor would get out unscathed. It’s Leliana who drops the hint that if he duels The Inquisitor’s betrothed, Cullen can speed up the process and be home by sunset. He’s furious while fighting the betrothed, and it only gets worse when the man begins to taunt Cullen by claiming that such a country bumkin shouldn’t marry or interact with The Inquisitor. Cullen somehow keeps his cool long enough for The Inquisitor to arrive. After that, he’s angrily pouting and telling The Inquisitor that “you can’t marry them” and all that. He gets so upset that he ends up proposing right then and there.
Dagna: No, because she doesn’t think she can. She wants to help, but her area of expertise isn’t… that.
She turns to Josephine and asks for help, and within a month or two, The Inquisitor and Dagna are back together.
Iron Bull: He’s all over that. And he’s certain he can make pretty good work of this noble. Until he finds out he has to fight honorably and “can’t just rip the nobleman apart.” Which is kind of stupid.
He doesn’t realize it himself, that he’s fighting for his kadan just yet. He lies to himself and says that he’s only doing this so that The Inquisitor doesn’t have to worry about “more bullshit” and that he just really wants to fight. But if that was the case, he wouldn’t be practicing how to properly duel, and he wouldn’t be researching clever one liners to throw in every once in a while. It’s as the Inquisitor appears in the crowd, pushing away the nobles that block their path, that’s when Bull realizes two things.
He’s in love.
He did this whole thing because he loves The Inquisitor.
And he’s speechless when The Inquisitor asks him why he did this, and it takes a good lot of effort for him to finally choke out, “because I love you, kadan.”
Josephine Montilyet: Absolutely not, she would help the Inquisitor out of the engagement ASAP. But she wouldn’t dare pick up a sword. Not because she can’t fight, but more because she knows there’s a peaceful solution to this, one that doesn’t involve swords.
Krem: Yeah, in fact, it’s one of the first things he does. The second he finds out all he has to do is duel the bastard that’s taking away his lover. It’s done. Of course, if The Inquisitor barges in, Krem’s all apologetic so he’s just spewing apologies but he’s able to confess his love for the Inquisitor while he’s at it.
Scout Harding: Yes. Like Krem, she sees this as the best way to take care of this engagement. She hates to admit it, but she ends up getting some sword lessons from Cassandra, who finds out and is all over the romantic idea of dueling for someone’s love. If The Inquisitor ends up arriving at the fight, Harding ends up confessing, completely red in the face while she explains how she couldn’t let her lover go to someone else other than her.
Sera: Yes, but she does it dirty. She messes with The Inquisitor’s betrothed, puts itching powder in their breeches, grease on the sword handle, and somehow knows all the damn gossip about their entire family. It’s sort of funny, watching the poor sod trip over himself because Sera tied their bootlaces together… wait how did she do that?
She’s unapologetic, even to Inky. She explains that some prissy pants noble wasn’t gonna take away her sweetness.
Varric Tethras: Yes, and he lies to himself and everyone else by saying some bullshit about how “amazing this would be for the story.” But he’s very upset. He already had someone taken away from him for the same damn reasons, but he had no power the last time. This time, he can do something, save the girl (or guy,) and he doesn’t have to back down. He hates to admit it, especially out loud, but if The Inquisitor stops the duel halfway through, Varric can’t help but give some sappy “they can’t have you because I love you” speech.
