Why the hell was this man allowed to be in charge of the DC movie universe for so long (or any time at all, actually).
“The character whose core trait is that he doesn’t believe in killing for deeply moral reasons also related to his own traumatic experiences should actually kill” okay cool go make a Punisher movie and leave the rest of us alone.

Maybe it’s a personal issue of assuming everyone will want to kill me for daring tell them how they’re doing anything at all incorrectly, but honestly with how so many white men here are with their “nobody can tell me how to do anything I’ve got my freedom and I’ll do what I want no matter who is hurt from it” attitude I’m too afraid to directly tell the dudes at my office who keep throwing the compostable cups in the trash that they’re doing it wrong. Maybe I’m too conflict averse, but I’d rather just keep fishing the cups out of the trash at the end of the day than try. Are my worries exaggerated? Maybe. But I can’t imagine most of them would take kindly to some tranny in a mask telling them what to do

Story where the new monarch isn’t crowned by a religious figure or by themselves (either because no religion ranks higher than them or that no one takes up their god’s particular priesthood), but they are instead crowned by the person who hates them most.
Maybe it’s their worst enemy. Maybe it’s some kid in the slums. There’s a ceremony to discover the person who hates the heir presumptive most, magic that tells the realm’s protectors who it is and where to find them. When it comes time for the coronation, the heir has 72 hours to convince their biggest hater why they deserve to be crowned the realm’s next monarch. If they can, then their enemy places the crown on their head, as a sign that while they may dislike the monarch they trust their ability to rule.
If they can’t, the heir presumptive is removed from the line of succession. Maybe it goes next to a sibling, or to another branch of the Royal tree. But if you can’t convince the person who hates you more than anything else in the world that you’re the best person for the job of ruling the realm—not a good person or a kind person, but the best person capable of making the sort of hard decisions that come with rulership—then this person isn’t going to make excuses for why you should be the next monarch anyway. It doesn’t matter you were firstborn of a firstborn going back several generations. You suck and you’re cruel and you’re not going to do the realm any good, so the crown passes to your uncle.

1. Introduction
As the world accelerates its efforts to combat climate change, the focus on cleaner energy sources has never been sharper. Blue hydrogen, derived primarily from natural gas with the carbon emissions being captured and stored, presents a viable option in the pursuit of decarbonization. Its potential integration with ammonia production further highlights its significance. At the heart of this transformative energy landscape lies the vital role of engineering services. 'Little P.Eng.', a forerunner in this niche, offers specialized services such as piping stress analysis, structural and seismic engineering, and the design of tanks and pressure vessels. This article delves deep into these pivotal engineering domains and the implications for blue hydrogen and ammonia production.
2. Blue Hydrogen: An Overview
Blue hydrogen is produced when natural gas (primarily methane) undergoes steam methane reforming (SMR) to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Unlike gray hydrogen, where CO2 is released into the atmosphere, blue hydrogen incorporates carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. This ensures that a significant portion of the carbon emissions are captured and sequestered, making blue hydrogen a cleaner option.
3. Importance of Engineering Services in Blue Hydrogen Production
Engineering services ensure the efficiency, safety, and reliability of blue hydrogen production plants. Key considerations range from handling high pressures and temperatures to mitigating the effects of seismic events. Herein, Little P.Eng.'s expertise comes to the fore.
4. Piping Stress Analysis
Piping systems in hydrogen production facilities face stresses from internal pressures, thermal loads, and dynamic forces. Piping stress analysis ensures that pipes, flanges, and fittings can withstand these stresses without failure.
Objectives:
Safety of the piping system and its associated components.
Compliance with international standards, codes, and best practices.
Reduction of operational disruptions due to piping failures.
Little P.Eng. employs advanced computational tools and methodologies to evaluate the behavior of piping systems under various loading conditions, optimizing design and ensuring longevity.
5. Structural Engineering
Facilities producing blue hydrogen demand robust structures capable of supporting equipment, piping, and personnel.
Key Challenges:
Dynamic loads from equipment and flow-induced vibrations.
Corrosive environments due to the presence of hydrogen, steam, and other chemicals.
Little P.Eng.'s structural engineering services provide innovative solutions, ensuring that structures remain integral and safe throughout their operational life.
6. Seismic Engineering
Many industrial facilities are located in seismic zones. Earthquakes can be catastrophic for hydrogen production facilities, leading to leaks, explosions, and fires.
Seismic Analysis: Little P.Eng. evaluates potential seismic risks and designs structures and systems that can withstand seismic events. This encompasses:
Site-specific seismic hazard assessments.
Design of foundations and structural elements with sufficient ductility and resilience.
7. Tank Design
Storage tanks play a pivotal role in hydrogen and ammonia plants. They store feedstock, intermediate products, and final products.
Design Principles:
Safety: Ensuring that tanks do not leak or rupture.
Efficiency: Maximizing storage capacity while minimizing footprint.
Longevity: Ensuring resistance to corrosion, wear, and tear.
With advanced modeling and simulation, Little P.Eng. optimizes tank designs to meet these principles, while also adhering to strict regulatory standards.
8. Pressure Vessel Design
Pressure vessels in hydrogen production plants hold gases at high pressures. Their design is crucial for safety and efficiency.
Design Aspects:
Material selection to resist hydrogen embrittlement.
Wall thickness determination to withstand internal pressures.
Compliance with international standards, such as ASME codes.
Little P.Eng. employs a rigorous approach to pressure vessel design, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
9. Ammonia Engineering Services: The Connection
Ammonia, NH3, is produced by combining nitrogen from the air with hydrogen. As such, blue hydrogen can provide a clean hydrogen source for ammonia production. The engineering challenges in ammonia production mirror those of blue hydrogen: high pressures, corrosive environments, and the need for robust structures and equipment. Little P.Eng.'s suite of services naturally extends to this domain, further enhancing the synergies between blue hydrogen and ammonia production.
10. Conclusion
The transformation of the energy landscape hinges on the adoption of cleaner technologies, and blue hydrogen stands out in this endeavor. The role of engineering services, as championed by Little P.Eng., is paramount, ensuring that the transition is not just sustainable but also safe and efficient. From intricate piping designs to robust structural solutions, the contributions of engineering cannot be overstated. As we gaze into the future of energy, it's clear that the expertise of firms like Little P.Eng. will be at the very heart of this revolution.

Final thought, the cut off for any welfare program at minimum needs to be 150% of the poverty line (ie, the poverty like is $10 the cut off should be no lower than $15)
Cause the poverty line, one assumes, is the bare minimum we're saying everyone should be at, and surely welfare programs are supposed to be meant to help people below that
If you cut it off right at the line, then people aren't going to be able to get out of poverty, because any time they get close they're suddenly going to be on the hook for like $1000 or more between the various welfare they might be on, and honestly only a fool would push past that if pushing past it means falling back down again
150% at least means that they've got a chance that maybe now they're picking up the slack of all the stuff they're losing
#and listen you can say you don't trust the government with this shit and frankly neither do I#...but clearly we need something; and clearly private charity isn't able to rise to the level to deal with it#so I'd rather in one way or another reform things so it works#like listen... you get private charity taking care of this; I'll be glad to have been wrong#but you can't just be like 'well; if we had no taxes'; well that's not gonna happen; you gotta work within reality#if everyone behaved perfectly and was never corrupt that would be a great solution too; but that's not the world#anarchy will always devolve into a government; governments will always take taxes... rather work in the system we have than post collapse#so if you have another solution; I'm all for it... but it has to be systemic and self enforcing#(as in; laws must be written where a random judge can't twist it to do something heinous)#(the author of a bill won't always be in the room; you need to close loopholes so it has to be enforced how it's meant to be enforced)#in the end it's like this... the government is fucking awful; but some things require a big pot of money#this is exactly how insurance works too; get a big pot of money and pay out from that pot when 1 of the 1000 people has something go wrong#anyway... infrastructure; military; healthcare... these are all things that need a big pot of money#they have so many working parts that require consistent inputs that it doesn't work to just hope Joe Everyman comes in to buy $5 of road#eh... why bother talking? not like I'm gonna change any minds

What does the "banana republic is a fucked up name for a store" post you reblogged mean? I'm afraid of looking dumb.
The term "banana republic" was originally coined to describe countries in Central and South America (mainly Honduras and Guatemala) whose economies were rendered dependent on the production and export of bananas (among other agricultural goods, but mainly bananas) by American fruit corporations leveraging the power of the U.S. government, the U.S. military and the CIA.
Throughout most of the of the 20th century, American corporations such as United Fruit, Cuyamel, and the Standard Fruit Company owned large portions of these countries' lands, to the point that in some cases they controlled their railway, road, and port infrastructure, and they engaged in a variety of imperialist actions to lower production costs, such as violence against labor activists and anti wage reform lobbying.
The pinnacle of this phenomenon was the 1954 Guatemalan coup, when United Fruit convinced the goverment of US president Dwight D. Eisenhower that the elected president of Guatemala, Jacobo Árbenz (who had expropriated some of the company's unused land and given it to Guatemalan peasants) was secretly working with the Soviet Union, resulting in a CIA coup which deposed the Árbenz government and replaced it with a thirty-year right-wing military dictatorship which effectively acted as a puppet government to protect the interests of United Fruit and the U.S. government.
Nowadays the term has broadened to refer to any small, economically unstable country with an economy which has been rendered dependent on the export of a particular natural resource due to economic exploitation by a more powerful country.

New York Daily News: S.E. Cupp: 'State of The Union a Window Into Obama's Mind'
Source:New York Daily News What I don’t think that S.E. Cupp gets that is of course President Obama was taking a victory lap last night. Which is his right, because the economy is finally moving and moving well. No longer are we talking about one-percent economic growth and creating somewhere around a hundred-thousand jobs per month, with unemployment still well over seven-percent. We are seeing…

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is a favorite target of the right. Conservatives appear to have difficulty handling the most senior gay official in the U.S. government with a husband, Chasten, and children. The Buttigieg kids, Penelope and Gus, have been in the world for over two years, and Republican voters remain obsessed with their parents.
Throughout it all, Buttigieg faced political attacks from those on the right who otherwise praised “strong family values.”
It is, therefore, no surprise that Buttigieg is keenly aware of the realities LGBTQ+ people face in 2023 as conservatives attack the community and LGBTQ+ people from American society through targeted legislation intended to limit discussion of sexual orientation, gender identity, and books, as well as eliminate essential health care for transgender people.
“I think it’s gotten worse,” Buttigieg told Time during a recent interview. “I think we’re actually in an exceptionally ugly moment in terms of some figures deciding that there’s utility, political utility, in targeting trans people and LGBTQ people more generally,” before pointing to Republicans who voted against last year’s Respect For Marriage Act, which provides some protections for same-sex and interracial marriages. The bill, which received overwhelming support from Democrats, was opposed by 36 Republican senators and 169 Republican representatives.
“I mean, look how many people voted against marriage equality—which should have been an easy one—just as recently as a few months ago. And so I think it’s a reminder that none of what’s been gained is really locked in.”
Gallup reports that more than 71% of Americans favor marriage equality.
In light of the recent ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Buttigieg warns that a Supreme Court decision also ushered in marriage equality, and the Justices have proved themselves capable of overturning established precedent.
“I don’t think anything is safe. I mean, Roe fell, and that was the law of the land for longer than I’ve been alive. Nothing is safe. Especially right now,” Buttigieg said.
Currently, LGBTQ+ rights in this country face a terrifying reality. Far-right provocateurs and lawmakers have moved on to identity politics after the court's decision.
These policies do not help Republicans win over middle-class voters, despite the praise of hard-right lawmakers. While Buttigieg acknowledges the privileges he enjoys, he believes this approach will fail.
“The situation of an upper-middle-class, married white gay dude is not the same as a trans kid in Texas or any number of LGBTQ people of color trying to survive right now,” he said. “They see political value in this. I see not only distraction but a very real harm that’s being done. And that’s gonna persist until they figure out that it is not rewarding politically for them.”
One of the GOP candidates for president in 2024 has gone all in on hatred of LGBTQ+ people. As Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis has unapologetically targeted queer people in his state, and it appears that that disdain extends to his professional interactions with Buttigieg.
One example is a proposed rail line connecting Miami to Tampa via a station near Disney World near Orlando. Federal infrastructure dollars could be a big boon to the state. As a result of its dispute with DeSantis, the company canceled an expansion of $1 billion and the construction of a station at Disney Springs.
According to Time, the train will instead head to the Orange County Convention Center in central Florida, but the longer it lingers, the less likely a Washington cash infusion will be.
Despite his best efforts, Buttigieg said he has yet to speak with DeSantis about transportation issues. Buttigieg noted that he has called DeSantis but has yet to talk to him.
“I’ve never heard from this Governor, and it’s not because I’ve never called him. We’ve never spoken. What I will say is we’ve done a lot of good work with the Florida Department of Transportation,” Buttigieg said. “We try to work around and through all that to just get stuff done. A huge amount of energy and effort is being wasted in these dumb fights. And that’s really unfortunate. It’s policy waste in order to achieve political benefit or perceived political benefit.”
Buttigieg added, “He’s more worried about Bud Light or Disney or whatever.”

Unlocking Foreign Investment: Building a Bridge to Economic Growth in the Black Sea Region
by Eastern European Institute for Trade
Tumblr media
The Black Sea region represents a diverse collection of nations teeming with untapped economic potential. However, attracting foreign investment remains a challenge, largely due to geopolitical tensions, underdeveloped infrastructure, and a lack of regulatory harmonization. To foster economic growth and stability, the countries in the region must prioritize policy reforms and build a strong foundation that encourages foreign investment.
First and foremost, improving the business climate is essential. By streamlining bureaucratic processes and enhancing transparency, the region can attract global investors eager to capitalize on its resources and strategic location (Dutz & Vagliasindi, 2000). Moreover, efforts should focus on creating a stable legal and regulatory framework, which is crucial for fostering investor confidence (Kaminski, 2001).
Infrastructure development, particularly in transportation and logistics, is another key factor in unlocking foreign investment. By investing in modern ports, railways, and highways, the Black Sea countries can facilitate trade and integrate their economies with regional and global markets (Limão & Venables, 2001). This will, in turn, make the region more attractive to foreign investors and promote cross-border cooperation (World Bank, 2009).
In addition, fostering innovation and technological development can significantly contribute to economic growth in the region. By investing in education, research, and development, the Black Sea countries can create a skilled workforce and promote an entrepreneurial culture (Romer, 1990). This approach can help the region transition from a reliance on traditional industries to a knowledge-based economy, attracting high-value-added investments and boosting productivity (Aghion & Howitt, 1998).
Lastly, regional collaboration and political stability are essential for attracting foreign investment. By adopting a cooperative approach, the Black Sea countries can mitigate geopolitical risks, reduce trade barriers, and create a more favorable environment for investors (Gligorov et al., 2008). Additionally, increased regional cooperation can enhance the effectiveness of policy reforms and foster an atmosphere of trust among foreign investors.
In conclusion, the Black Sea region offers ample opportunities for economic growth, but unlocking foreign investment requires concerted efforts in policy reform, infrastructure development, innovation promotion, and regional cooperation. By addressing these challenges, the countries in the region can build a bridge to prosperity and ensure long-term stability.
