I've been fascinated with the Aztec god Xolotl recently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xolotl (pronunced Sho-lo-t followed by an L like sound that doesn't exist in the English language) was a Mesoamerican god associated with many things, including fire, lightning, disease, deformity, twins, the Mesoamerican ball game, death, dogs, the planet Venus as the evening star, twilight, shapeshifting, and monsters. Xolotl was the twin and sometimes companion of his more famous brother Quetzalcoatl. Xolotl was thought to guide the dead in their journey through the underworld, and to guide the sun through the underworld each night. Xolotl is usually depicted as either a dog anthro, a man with a dog head, or a dwarf skeletal jester. Xolotl is usually depicted missing eyes. Xolotl seems to have been feared by the Aztecs and especially hated by the Spanish, but I have a more favorable view.
Some of the most prominent myths about Xolotl involve the story of the fifth sun, or how the current world was made from the previous, destroyed one.
The first myth involves the recreation of humanity. The tales differ as to whether Quetzalcoatl was responsible, Xolotl was responsible, or if it was a collaborative effort. The humans of the fourth world were destroyed, and humanity had to be brought back. To this end Xolotl and/or Quetzalcoatl traveled to the Aztec underworld, Mictlan and met with its king, Mictlantecutli. The god(s) asked to gather the bones of the previous humans so they could be created anew. Mictlantecutli. Mictlantecutli gives them tests but later decides against letting them gather the bones. Xolotl and/or Quetzalcoatl fall into pit, breaking the bones in the process which is why people have different heights. The bones are later resurrected. The versions of this tale differ as to which god went to Mictlan and whether they did tests for Mictlantecutli or simply stole the bones.
In the second myth, the gods are sacrificing themselves in a fire to create a fifth sun for humanity because the previous one went out. They choose Nanahuatzin, a poor and humble god with syphilis and some relation to Xolotl to become the moon; and Tecciztecatl to become the sun because he is wealthy and strong. However, Tecciztecatl is unable to throw himself in the fire when the time comes, so Nanahuatzin becomes the sun instead. Tecciztecatl is sacrificed after and becomes the moon (and also the man on the moon), but has a rabbit thrown at his face which is one explanation for the rabbit people sometimes see.
Later, Xolotl is the last to be sacrificed to the new sun. In some versions this is because he was the executioner for the previous gods. However, in some tales he refuses to sacrifice himself. Xolotl begs and cries until his eyes literally fall out but this does nothing. Xolotl transforms to escape Ehecatl who has been executing other gods to make the sun move. Xolotl at first transforms into a corn plant with two stalks, then an Agave americana, and finally an Axolotl amphibian. But he was still caught in the end.
What I find most interesting about Xolotl is his relation to disability. Since deformities are among Xolotl's best known domains, he could be considered a god of disabilities as well. Xolotl is also a god of monsters, and it's worth mentioning that the Nahua word "Xolo" which his name is derived from and means monster, is used for both mythological monsters and those with physical abnormalities, much like the Latin word "Monstrum". (I think in literature analysis the themes of monsters as outcasts could be explored more) In many, perhaps even most historical (and unfortunately even modern) societies the attitude towards those with disabilities has been very negative. In the Aztec world twins were considered unnatural, and sometimes one of them would be murdered shortly after birth. Wikipedia mentions an speculation by Eduard Seler that resonates with me: that Xolotl represents the murdered twin who dwells in the underworld while Quetzalcoatl is the living one who is cherished in the world of light.
Another connection with Xolotl and disability is that he was sometimes depicted as a jester with dwarfism. It's relevant the jesters around the world were often disabled. European court jesters were known for having the freedom to criticize and mock royalty, and were sometimes selected from the intellectually disabled because they could not be held responsible for what they said. Additionally, the Spanish during the colonization of the Aztecs sent some Aztec jesters to Spain, who were described as humpbacks.
This is what I find most interesting about Xolotl, that he is a reflection or shadow of society. Historically Xolotl was often considered a sinister god, but when society is itself sinister who is to be believed? My view of Xolotl is more favorable. The god of the disabled is feared because the disabled are hated. Xolotl is the outcast, who is hated and feared yet has done no wrong. Xolotl is the murdered twin, who looks upon the world of light and life, from a place of darkness, the world he was not given, never had the right to enjoy. He is the god who is looked upon with disgust due to his role in hardship, yet is the only one who stays with you through that hardship the entire time. Xolotl is the disabled child, who is called a child of shame and hidden away in some institution to be forgotten by their more privileged relatives. Xolotl is viewed with contempt, but his domains are just as necessary to the universe's function as any of the more handsome gods. The janitor, who is viewed with contempt and disgust yet whose works are vital for society.
The "evil twin" Xolotl, misunderstood twin and hound of Quetzalcoatl who lives in the world's shadow, watching the world of life and guarding the light of the sun through the underworld.

Snippet:
“You’re early.” She observes.
“I got impatient.” Silco shrugs back.
Sevia grunts in neither annoyance or affirmation, just acknowledgement. She looks down at her hands, a thick droplet of concealing blood oozes to the floor with the consistency of hot taffy. She sighs.
“Gimme a minute.” Sevika grumbles, suddenly unsure what to do with her hands, they remain suspended awkwardly in midair as she searches fruitlessly for a surface to wipe them on.
He makes a split second decision. “Leave it.”

Since I have mentioned potential kid fic already....
Imagine months after the dark dragon's defeat, Link and Zelda get an urgent message from Riju, asking them to please come help right now.
Naturally, they set off - Link filling up on elemental weapons and potions, Zelda making plans for all sort of problems...
It's late when they arrive, the sun beginning to set, but they cannot wait.
Two Hylians walk into the Desert, to the Gerudo citadel.
And when they arrive, Riju presents them with....a baby. An unmistakably Gerudo baby, from tuft or red hair and pointy ears to the tip of tiny toes.
Except this Gerudo baby? It's a boy.
The first in thousands of years. There hasn't been one since.... That Ganondorf.
The one who was sealed in the War of Exile.
The Gerudo Council is an uproar. The vote is unanimous: the child cannot be allowed to live. However, no one can decide how to do it: just leaving him out to the elements is Out of Question (in Gerudo culture and mythology, Bad Things happen to those who neglect or mistreat children, especially babies and infants); kinslaying is very taboo, some think the mother should be tracked down and forced to take care of it herself, others think Riju should do it as their Chief...
Riju decided to put the matter to the Princess.
(There is a flash of guilt in her eyes, like she expects only one outcome. Link's hands clench into fists)
Link looks down into the crib. He who faced the Calamity and the Demon King himself, who destroyed a dragon.... he can sense nothing from this tiny, crying, screaming baby. No malice, no hatred, no evil aura, just... nothing.
Link preaches down and picks him up, cradles him against his chest. The baby immediately starts rooting against his chest, mouthing at this Champion's tunic, his cries getting louder as he gets nothing. He is no different from the babies Link babysat in Hateno and Lurelin and at the stables.
Link's glare could melt stone. At Buliara's command, one of her guards vanishes and returns a few minutes later with a sippy cup* full of milk.
The baby eagerly latches on the beak and drinks, drinks, drinks.
Once he is done, Link expertly shifts him to his shoulder and burps him. He turns a little, meeting Zelda's eyes.
Some people might mistake his look for supplication.
It's not.
It's a warning.
This is where the line is drawn and if someone - anyone, the descendant of the Goddess included - tries to take this child from him, Link is ready and willing to fight his way out.
Do not test me, his eyes say. Not on this day. Not on this.
To be perfectly honest, it's a bit redundant. There is only one way this can go and....well, Zelda has walked harder roads before.
Sometimes it's hard to know what the right choice is. Sometimes it's as clear as daylight.
At sunset, two Hylians walked into the Desert, to the Gerudo citadel.
At dawn, two Hylians and a Gerudo baby walk out of the desert, back to Hyrule.
* sippy cups: examples from the Bronze Age have been found.

Utero Dentata, Negative Returns on Human Capital and Existential Anxiety
Tumblr media
I’ve been thinking about that thing Roman said in the S3 finale script about how Shiv’s womb has teeth. I hate that I immediately thought of that urban legend about vaginas that have teeth so that when you fuck someone, it bites your dick off. With that in mind, it was interesting that he didn’t say her vagina has teeth, but her womb. It’s past the sexual part and refers only to the maternal part of reproduction. This means that it wouldn’t really be Tom’s fault if the baby dies in the womb because it would be Shiv’s body that killed it. After that, he also says that whole bit about Tom carrying the baby and breastfeeding it. Of course, this is about their reversed gender dynamic; Shiv is the femalehusband and Tom is the malewife. Although Tom is mocked a bit for that, he’s also positioned as the one who would be able to nurture the baby. Roman is saying that there’s something wrong with Shiv that makes her fundamentally incapable of being a mother and must rely on Tom if the baby is to survive at all. He obviously is insulting Shiv by declaring her currently most valuable asset (to Logan and Tom) as defective.
The fact that it’s specifically Roman talking about Shiv’s utero dentata is significant because he’s recognizing his own lack of virility as the inversion of her “infertility.” It creates a connection between her masculinity and his femininity. By doing this, he is doing to her what she and the rest of the family do to him; he accuses her of having something fundamentally wrong with her right down to her body, but unlike them, he doesn’t deny his own “wrongness.” Roman presenting this as an essential part of Shiv points out how little control she actually has over her own body or more precisely, that her body is able to betray her. Betrayal by the body is something we see all over Succession from Logan’s UTI to Kendall shitting the bed to Roman being unable to get it up. No matter what they want, their bodies defy them. This forces them to confront, at least in the moment, their own humanity or rather, mortality— something that is incredibly vile to them.
Tumblr media
Before that, they’re talking about Logan’s sperm and Roman refers to it as his “hellseed.” It’s the opposite of “sacred seed,” or what Connor, a no-fap advocate, might call “good seed.” Connor’s opposition to masturbation was talked about in the context of his new goal to be president; he called it one of the “great dangers” along with usury. To frame onanism and usury as the two biggest threats to America is a bit Ezra Pound of him, which is to say it’s a bit antisemitic. Whether or not Connor is aware of this is another thing because unless it was stated outright in his “readings,” the antisemitism is (thinly) disguised in the form of anti-usury. In the context of racialism, the sin of masturbation is tied to the survival of the race. This means the sperm of their race/ethnic group is viewed as a finite resource that must be spent wisely to ensure successful growth, not unlike capital. Every drop counts and to waste it, to invest in the wrong things or on nothing at all is contributing to the extinction of the race. In Abrahamic religions, it’s a sin because it’s wasting the “seed” in vain. It’s selfishly indulging in earthly pleasures while ignoring the true purpose of sex which procreation. It is also seen as a type of infanticide because the sperm is what contains the life of the child.
Connor taking this position in politics reflects how he still thinks of business and family as the same despite being exiled from Waystar. This being paired with usury only makes this more apparent. It fits in with Connor’s American libertarian politics because the value of the sperm is relative to it’s usefulness so, it places responsibility on the individual to use it in the correct way. Connor’s relationship with Willa was founded on a financial transaction. By funding her career as a playwright, he decided that this relationship is a long-term investment. Connor sees having children in the same way. This shows how he understands his place in the family. He sees himself and his mother as a failed investment on Logan’s part. It’s how he justifies Logan’s abandonment of him and his desire to invest in new children with a new wife. He concludes that Logan is trying for another baby because of both the Macca root smoothie and the fact that the new children he invested in turned out to be a huge loss for him. By running for president and getting married, Connor is determined to “turn a profit” for his father. As an adult, his father does give him actual money and he doesn’t want to be a waste of his father’s hard-earned money (and sperm).
Tumblr media
Roman seeing his dad’s sperm as “hellseed,” Shiv’s uterus as cannibalistic, his own dick as being defective and even Kendall’s parenting as shitty says that he sees his family as having an inherent “wrongness” in their abilities to reproduce. Ever the nihilist, it reflects Roman’s bleak outlook on life. While he wouldn’t actively attempt suicide, he could do it passively by fasting, by destroying relationships and by baiting other people into hurting him. Ideally, however, Roman probably wishes he were never born because to live life, at least in this physical realm, is a punishment in itself. If he could go back in time,  he’d try and convince his mother to abort him. This might be the first time we see Roman express anything close to resentment toward Logan. It’s still in this typically Roman self-victimising way, but it is placing blame on Logan for doing something to him that he’s clearly unhappy about. The idea of Logan trying to impregnate Kerry triggers existential anxiety in Roman. He was jealous of Kerry before Connor suggested this, but it’s Kerry’s ability to reproduce and the possibility of a new heir that pushes it over the edge. Since Logan has been forcibly made aware of his failure in heterosexual masculinity, Roman fears that his dad will no longer see use for him. He isn’t an adequate partner or heir nor can he reproduce. For him to want to “kill that baby,” shows that this anxiety is deep enough that he is willing to commit what could likely be viewed by Logan as a sin against him. He would be trying to interfere with God’s (Logan’s) will. When Roman comes to his father with only his love as a token, he is, in part, asking for an answer to his own existence. He wants to know that he was born to love and be loved because he sees no other value in his life.

The Murderer was caught hiding over 15 children corpses inside the local Meat Shop. The bodies had been conserved and eaten by the criminal. A victim has been rescued after seemingly fighting back from the murderer.
This is Butcher, an cannibal serial killer who disguises as an normal Meat shop man. Butcher's victims are mainly children because of how easier their bones are to cut
P1 just had the unfortunate chance of meeting this funny fella as a kid, being lucky enough to escape before meeting his demise. Poor kid won't ever eat any kind of meat ever again ( yes he's vegan ).

Where did the "Obi-Wan's parents tried to drown him in a river" headcanon even come from?
Like. What canon we do have (admittedly Legends), about his childhood is that he was pretty happy, and had a brother, and then he joined the Jedi. Nothing about the river headcanon!

Gonna just leave these here this morning... Kyung shipping headcanons!
Currently only familiar with Chinese courtship rituals, but on a somewhat loose basis.  Would give tokens of love when she is able to (most would be homemade fragrance sachets, love knot charms, and fruit.  But she’d absolutely come through with fancy hairpins, combs, jade and jewelry at the opportunity).
While she’s not too shy about being flirted with and/or flirting in her own way with others, actual courtship to potentially get married would freak her out a little bit.  Only due to the fact that she never expected to be seen as someone suitable for marriage.
Demisexual/Demiromantic coded, doesn’t seem to have a preference for either men or women.  She’d be quite flattered if she was fancied by either, and while marriage wouldn’t be an option for suitresses, she’d still partake in that romance (even if it had to be kept a secret due to the law).
If Kyung finds a suitor/suitress, they’d better be prepared to spend time getting to know her family.  There won’t be any hazing, but her family might seem a little intimidating to some.
Because of the shortage of available women in Ancient China (thanks to female infanticide, and the elite’s concubine habit), polyandry/polygamy is more or less on the table as far as Kyung cares, but definitely not something that would be displayed openly (technically it was illegal to the government at the time, but was secretly normal for commoners?).
If her suitor/suitress is European/Anglo-Saxon, she and her family may refer to them as her beau/belle.  Ex. In the ship between Kyung and Livesey (or even the crack ship with her and Smollett, for that matter), he’d be referred as Kyung’s beau.
Another ancient Chinese love gesture: Kyung’s mother likely taught her the cheeky little trick of leaving lipstick marks of different shapes and fragrances on her suitor/suitress’s clothes/neck to express sentimental attachment (Of course, she’d ask whether or not the piece of clothing was important to keep clean).
PDA might be something she’d need time to adjust to, but Kyung would at least be willing to try it.  Behind closed doors, though, she’d be absolutely fine with being physically affectionate.  Since she was raised in a bit of a fusion of Asian-European parenting fashion, chances are, she’s much more used to giving big warm hugs than her grandpa and mother would be thanks to her father and brother’s influence.

An Ex for Zia (Zhao Lusi) and Biological Father of Zia’s Offspring | you do not have contact @hjxzia before applying.
Trigger Warning: Attempted Infanticide/Murder
The character must be male or nonbinary. A little under 6000 years ago, he was the merfolk prince. He married a mermaid princess to preserve the monarchy’s reputation, but had declared his love for Zia. His entire civilization was destroyed after betraying Zia by attempting to murder their child (though we are open to it just being her perception of what happened). She destroyed their entire kingdom. They were presumed dead by Zia, which is what she told her child.

The road is a depressing book about why we live life and is poorly executed. if one may deal with thoughts of suicide, may wanna skip this post. oh and canabilism. lots of it
my goal is discussion so have literally the slightest thought cross your mind please tell me about it. i will steal it for my essay (i will credit if asked to)
the books ending is shit. not in the 'oOOO oo emotions' way but bad writing way. the man dies to illness and the boy is on his lonesome for like two days until a deus de machina comes and gives the boy a chance at a new life. and the overall message is like supposed to be life moves on even if you dont(?) or maybe that our lives maybe shit but we have the ability to help it so we must live. ignoring that they really do fuck all to make their lives feel like they are worth living. idk man it feels stupid trying to analyze the plot when the setting is the main focus. like the reason mcarthy wrote the book wasnt to tell a story about characters but to show a desolate post apocalyptic america. i am supposed to question the idea of 'good vs evil' and its dichotomy.
my first thing to say is there are no good guys. not like the boy and the man evil but neutral. grandpa too. just living to survive with no greater purpose. simply walking an uncertain road to oblivion. okay ill mention the on the nose theme of the road is life and youll meet all types of people but they all leave at some point and leave an impact on you in some way. the depiction of the road as cabalistic also an on the nose dog eats dog world.
(great point of idea over execution. dog eats dog world -> man eats man-> man eats man!! fr!! thats a fun little detail but that leaves us with no real reason for canabilism. like i think they mention crows at some point? not the best option but better than newborn.
'oh theres no plants' okay fuckwad why do they have trees? and apples? our duo find a doomsday bunker intact which proves that there is still places unscavenged not saying it would be easy just there are ways to live without eating human flesh. actually htf does the settlement at the end of the book survive? they have to eat something. thats a big detail i dont think carthy would miss that im probably forgetting.
just canabilism aspect doesnt sit right with me. would it be too twitter of me to say this book realizes on a white suburban view of life? cause like native americans didnt live here for fucking centuries as stewards of the land and with mellow cultures for you to say that all society would collapse. like yes the upper middle class up live cushy lives and probably never have killed an animal bc of thier own need of food but others in poverty already live in some [i am white upper class and have no balls to say all] of these conditions. is the road an analogy of poverty? like it would be the end of the higher class but not all of us
actually i really like that point. this is only a horror/sad story for those of us fortunate enough not to live it. we are cooing at the preventable corspe of our fellow man with the smoking gun still in our hands.)
okay idea three(?) would be idea one remixed. the man is the stand in for the older generation or for my purpose the 'current' generation. boy likewise is the to-be inheriters of the current generation title. The man is cautious of people and holds no sympathy for 'others' but he still willing to go into the old world wreckage to scavenge. the boy is opposite, empath but terrified of the world that came before him. good and evil would have to rely on the characters morals. and the focus shifts from the man to the boy when he inherits the current generation title. could be the theme of 'the world is seen through the procived majorities eyes.'
i think i deleted the part that says 'keep living by obligation' which mcarthy fails to make this interesting. like the plot being because dad says so isnt inspiring. okay a realistic life is lived by obligation but thats not a good story motivator. i did what i always do which is watch a video essay about the topic bc im cool like that and he said that the point is to ask the question 'is there a reason for anything?' which yeah interesting question hard to execute in a meaningful or memorable way. or if there is it definitely isnt the road. im a hudge bitch when it comes to stories that make my class have discussions on whether suicide is the answer and seemed to genuinely go to yes. that was the moment i felt most kindled by the duo bc my god mcarthy you better prove them wrong or ill cry. not bc of you unique writing style but because these fucks deserve better. i deserve better.
the man and boy should share more moments being genuine with eachother. no one ever breaks down and like expresses shit to work through it they just crack for a second then go back to surviving cause boys dont cry. like its obvious that the man loves his son. but does he love the person? does he love the boy beyond the title of kin. same thing in the other direction too. cause i really dont think these characters do. and that could be interesting if you explored that but thats not mcarthys goal!! so they are just bland tear fodder. like i think the goal was 'the road is worth walking with loved ones' they lack any attributes so the reader can imprint whatever ideology onto them. Thats lazy. These arent people. Fucking Sun Wukong, representation of the human mind, one of the most varried things in existence, has enough character that the duo would turn to ash in his presence while being a damn fine metaphor (even if it doesn't encompass everyone)
im expected to give them pidy on the idea that they are human and trying to survive in a world hell bent on killing them and just like. yeah man that sucks but me too. and then we both continue living our shitty depressing lives and never do jack shit to help ourselves. well i guess the entire book is to get to a better place. but what happens when they get there that couldnt happen in rock city? what changes because of this. i know i know the winter. i feel unsatisfied. okay so thier goal is to keep living in the world where they reside. not im going to stop this. which is boring i can go talk to any bitch out on the street and get the same life story eachtime. i dont care anymore.
I get thats not the point. that not everything must be a call to action. that this is a fiction book desperate trying to presist thats its real. not like those other books but this is my tumblr blog so im going to say i hate that. i hate the idea that this is it. theres no hope here. go outside and weep if your looking for that. dont require me to read in class a story where nothing is accomplished. where the main take away is our lives will not impact the universe and therefore are meaningless.
okay tldr: the roads all like 'life is meaningless monotonous mess' and i think thats a really boring topic. with out agency your novel is shit. i dont really care about these characters at all bc they arent characters. they are muses for the reader to view how they like. which did not work in this book.

I think the reason why Sealed God reader was so easy to fall and soften for the child is because they were a parent before.
They lost children who just existed for barely months for simply having their own blood and they fear what the people or gods would do if this child who was their holder and vessel were heard of or when they have them in their grasp.
I'm guessing the trauma of losing their kids made them more protective of child vessel in a way that makes it so that every God in their proximity would feel the dangerous power they behold. Just one scratch from a wild squirrel would alarm everyone in the land of dawn that a sense of doom was near and would make them have anxiety; meanwhile. Known Gods would tell their heroes not to get near it, despite their old promises to kill other vessels of other Gods.

🍼 (ROFL)
Send 🍼 to see how my muse would react to being handed a baby
Ras looked, oddly enough, natural holding a baby. Like he had paternal instinct just oozing out of his person as he coddled the child. Lucio said nothing, because he was being sensitive. After all, Ras lost his own baby years ago.
But then the giant hands the baby to him, causing the baby to fuss in the strange man's arms.
Oh god oh lord it's crying. What's he supposed to do? He didn't like looking inept, so he handed the baby back. Insistantly.
"No thanks, I already ate."
It was a joke. Sorta.

Side Muse(s): Victor and Charlie
Tumblr media
Victor and Charlie are a two-headed demon dog. Their mother, like a few of the other Nightosphere inhabitants, were forced onto Ooo when the Mushroom Bombs went off. Because of this, V & C were born in the ruins of old Earth. Being the runt of the litter, however, they were eventually rejected by their mother. While lucky enough to be alive post-rejection (it’s common for female nighthounds to eat their young, especially the ones she rejects), they still had to wander alone.
This was until they were found by Marsha, who had recently run away from the Nightosphere. While wary of them at first, she came to adopt them and developed a bond with them. It wasn’t long until Marsha would adopt Autumn, another orphaned puppy. A little makeshift family formed with V & C loving their new mommy and their little sibbie.
Victor is the one who usually takes charge and is curious over pretty much everything. He is usually the one who gets into things he probably shouldn’t. Charlie is more passive than his brother and is often pushed into mischief by his brother. V & C have been known to squabble with each other and fight over many things (Marsha, food & treats, toys, anything they find to chew on). While they can be very scary at times, they are a big ol’ teddy bear when it comes to Marsha.
Likes: Marsha, playing, giving Marsha slobbery kisses, toys, being petted, getting belly rubs, Autumn
Dislikes: Marsha hurt/in danger, Marsha angry or upset, squirrels, cats, Hunson, not getting the same amount of affection, going to the vet
