Unknowingly and unintentionally, Y/n let out a big sigh as she poured a glass of water.
"What's wrong, Y/n?" Naomi asked gently, coming up behind her and hugging her tightly.
"Peter."
Naomi hummed, a sign that she was waiting for Y/n to lead the conversation so she could follow because if it were up to Naomi, she would immediately start trash-talking Peter and she wasn't sure if that was the vibe right now or not.
Y/n shook her head in disbelief as she jumped up to sit on the counter. "He got so mad when he found out I slept over at Karl's."
"I'm sorry, Y/n. I wish you would just cut him off completely."
"I don't know. I know I should but... part of me wonders if he could ever go back to how he was when I met him. I would probably date that guy again but not who he turned out to be."
Naomi looked horrified. "No. You sound like you're considering hearing him out. No, is that a joke? He's a bad person."
"I'm not," Y/n reassured. "I'm just thinking hypothetically. Probably because I miss having someone..."
"Y/n, you have a ton of thirsty people in your mentions. If you really want someone that bad, just scroll through, land on one and I bet they're a million times better than that sack of burned potatoes."
Y/n rolled her eyes but smiled lightly. "Most of those are jokes."
"Not all of them," she teased.
"I know you're going to tell me anyway so just say it. Who specifically do you think isn't joking?"
"Dream," Naomi sang.
"Okay, crazy." Y/n reached over, staying seated on the counter as she grabbed a bowl from a cabinet on her left. She then leaned all the way right, reaching as far as she could, but couldn't quite grab a cereal box from the top of the refrigerator.
Naomi rolled her eyes as she helped, handing Y/n the box. She even went the extra step to get Y/n a spoon and the milk because she was that nice. "I'm not joking. Neither is he. Karl and I have talked about it and we both agree."
Y/n paused at her friend's words, her hand hovering over the milk that Naomi held out for her. "You guys gossip about my love life?"
Naomi set the milk next to Y/n, tired of holding it out for her. "Of course? Like we don't do that about Karl? Or you and him about me?"
She couldn't argue there.
"Karl says there's a different vibe from Dream when you join calls and I believe it. I mean, I've seen it during streams myself so I can only imagine how much more obviously in love with you he is during private calls.
"That 'vibe' is Karl's delusional mind creating things. He's too scared to talk to cameragirl so he's projecting onto Dream and I."
"Yeah, okay," Naomi agreed sarcastically.
Y/n huffed. "Besides, he's in Florida. I'm in North Carolina, in case you weren't aware."
"So you're saying if you lived in the same state, you'd date him?"
"I didn't say that." She honestly had never thought of it. Sure she liked hanging out with Dream and her stomach got butterflies when he talked directly to her and he made her smile harder than anyone ever had and he—
And she didn't like him like that. She had only officially met the guy like a week and a half ago and she didn't know what he looked like. There was no way you could catch feelings for someone without seeing them.
Naomi's expression fell again. "Distance doesn't matter, anyway."
"I swear if you say something about George I will slap you," she threatened through a smile and Naomi gave her an innocent grin back.
"If you're lonely, get on Tinder, not Peter. Or get on Dream. I have no qualms with that."
"Peter isn't even an option, Naomi." Y/n sighed, ignoring the comment about Dream. "Also," she swallowed the last of her cereal and set the bowl down with a clank. "I'm gonna tell Peter I don't want to be friends anymore. Dream and George can be added to the list of Peter haters."
"You talked to them about it?"
She nodded. "You know how I have little gossip sessions with George? Well, Dream was there too this time."
"Well, of course Dream would hate Peter. We've established that he likes you."
"No, no, you and Karl delusionally hypothesized that."
Naomi tapped the counter methodically, a sign Y/n knew to signal that she was thinking hard. "Somehow, one day, I'll prove he does."
"Good luck."
"Wanna watch a movie?"
"Yes," Y/n perked up. "Go pick something, I'll get blankets."
She went to her room, grabbing her favorite cuddling blankets. She started leaving her room when she heard a ding on her open desktop, signaling that she had a call incoming from Discord. Cool timing.
"I'll be just a second, Naomi!" she called across the house before dropping the blankets on her bed and sliding her headset on, answering the call from Dream. "Hi, Dream!" She sat on her chair and tucked her knees to her chest.
"Hi," he greeted sweetly. "How are you doing today?"
"Much better than when we last talked. How are you?"
"Great now that I'm talking to you," he said smoothly. Y/n rolled her eyes but smiled anyway. "Are you busy?"
"Unfortunately, yes. My roommate and I are about to watch a movie."
"Ooh, what movie?"
"Not sure yet. Any suggestions?"
"Dark Knight. Unless you wanted me to say, like, Tangled or something."
"Yeah, girls' night is exclusively princess movies. Do you know nothing?"
"Apparently," he said with a laugh.
"What's up?"
"Oh, well, I was just gonna see if you wanted to be on call later with me, George, and Sapnap while I stream speedruns, but you're hanging out with your roommate so nevermind."
"Oh," Y/n deflated. "That sounds fun."
"I can push it back if you want to be part of it. If not, that's fine. I just thought it would be cool."
"No, no, no I really do want to, but I don't want you to have to push it back. When were you planning on starting?"
"In about an hour."
"I'll just join later if you're still playing. If that's okay that I come late."
"No. You have to be on time or not at all," he joked. "Of course that's fine," he assured. "And if I'm not playing anymore, you can still join... we usually talk for forever after we play games and it's fun. I would, er, we would love for you to hang out with us."
Y/n couldn't help the large smile on her face from staying even after they hung up and she walked back into the living room with her pile of blankets. She couldn't help it even when Naomi pointed it out and asked why she was so happy.
"Oh, uh, I've been invited to join Dream and them later for a stream."
"That vague answer doesn't warrant the shit-eating grin you have."
Y/n shrugged and cuddled more into her blankets. "What movie did you pick?"

As the end credits rolled across the screen, Y/n yawned and looked over to Naomi in the dark. She was out like a light. Y/n stood up and made sure Naomi was covered in the blanket and she had a pillow. She crept back to her room and slid her headphones on, pulling up Discord where she saw the three boys' names still in a voice call.
She pulled up Twitch on her second monitor and looked for Dream's stream. It was already about an hour in. She clicked on it and her headphones echoed with the sound of George and Sapnap laughing like they said the funniest thing in the world.
"Shut up," Dream muttered. "Guys, what were the coords for the portal? Seriously, come on."
"Nobody tell him," George joked.
"George!"
"Where's Bugsyyyy?" Sapnap whined. "I want her to make fun of you with us."
"Half the stuff we're making fun of him for is about his big fat crush on her so..."
"George!" Dream yelled again. "No, it's not!"
Y/n smiled as she heard that, knowing it was a joke but laughing at the way Dream laughed at the accusation. She knew it wasn't serious or else they wouldn't talk about it on stream. George and Sapnap teased a lot, but certainly, they wouldn't out someone's crush in front of a hundred thousand viewers live.
"Oh!" Sapnap spoke out loud as George laughed loudly, both reading the text at the same time. "Speaking of..."
Dream waited for either of the two boys to elaborate but neither of them offered one. "What happened?"
"Bugsy texted us," George said off-handedly, typing a response to her. "She's coming in a second."
"Oh."
"What do you mean 'oh'?" Sapnap laughed.
"You guys have a groupchat?"
"Aw, jealous?" George asked.
Y/n joined at that moment, the first sentence coming from her Discord instead of Twitch being from Sapnap saying, "Would it make you more jealous to know our group name is Bugsy's Boys?"
"No, Sapnap, that's the one with Karl," George corrected. "The one with just you, me, and her is Bugsy's Boyfriends."
"WhAT?"
"I still don't approve of that, by the way," Y/n commented.
"Bugsy!!" Sapnap giggled happily. "You're finally here!"
"BUGSY!" George cheered.
"Hi guys!" Y/n laughed at the enthusiasm she was greeted with. "Hi, Dream!"
There was a few seconds of silence before, "Dream!!" George yelled right before the death screen appeared on the Twitch tab still opened on Y/n's right screen. "You idiot, what are you doing?! Why did you throw that run??"
She covered her mouth with the hoodie collar and laughed. "Off to a great start, bud."
"NO!" Dream yelled, knocking something, or somethings, off his desk. "Noooo! I didn't throw it, George, I FELL! Oh, that was going to be such a good run."
"What happened? How did you miss that huge ravine?" George asked while laughing. "It was literally right in the open. You didn't even try to use your water bucket."
"I-I was... I was distracted."
"By what? The completely open field with nothing blocking your vision?" Sapnap criticized with a laugh as well.
Y/n giggled to herself before letting her eyes trail to his chat, which was filled with the same accusations and guesses.

Y/n immediately blushed and covered her face again. She really had a habit of hiding even when no one could see her.
"Oh my gosh," Dream groaned, leaving the world and starting a new one. "Oh. My. Gosh. That's so annoying. I was doing so good."
"Oh," Sapnap laughed. "I understand now."
"What? What did I miss?" George asked.
"Just read chat," Sapnap explained. "They have the answer. Dream, your chat is so smart. Thanks for solving the mystery, chat!"
"No, they aren't ri— that isn't true!" Dream defended. "Chat, shut up."
"You sure?" Y/n asked teasingly, watching as his character paused when she started talking. Was she really making him this flustered just by talking? Surely not. He was just playing into the joke. He continued playing without saying anything, which made George and Sapnap laugh more.
The subject eventually changed and the atmosphere quickly became more relaxed and chill. Tonight was not a feral night like George had texted in all caps.
"Hey George," Y/n started, biting on her hoodie string with a smile because she knew Naomi would hear this when she watched the VOD the next day. "My roommate says hello."
"Oh my gosh," he muttered, making her laugh. "Let it go."
"Wow, I guess that's one way to treat your fans..."
"Fine," he sighed. "Tell her I say hello."
"Well, not if you don't mean it," Y/n teased.
"Yeah, George, you sound so unenthusiastic?" Sapnap asked.
"He's just flustered," Dream commented. "It's okay George, you can have feelings."
"Dream, you fell into a ravine because Bugsy said hi."
"Oh, come on! That's not—I just— I missed the jump! That's it!"
"I'm not flustered or unenthusiastic, I'm just tired, okay?" George explained, ignoring Dream, a yawn spilling out of him to prove it.
Y/n smiled. "Well, you could always let me give her your number if you really want..."
"No. If she had Discord you could give her that but not my phone number."
"Wait, really?" Y/n gasped. "Seriously?"
George laughed lightly. "Yeah, sure, why not?"
"YES! Okay, a huge win for the girls. Well, a huge loss for the fangirls but a huge win for the girls of this apartment."
"Oh my gosh," he muttered and she could practically see him rubbing his face in embarrassment.
"I'll send you her hashtag when she makes one so you know who to add back."
"She's going to make an account just to talk to George?" Sapnap giggled.
"Yes, dude!" Y/n defended. "She at least wants to be his friend, let her shoot her shot!"
Dream ended the steam soon after, not being able to focus enough to beat the end on any of his runs. He had streamed for just under two hours so he seemed to be getting tired as well. George went to bed soon after and after 20 minutes of talking with Sapnap and Dream, Sapnap mysteriously disappeared.
Y/n was about to leave as well, not wanting Dream to feel obligated to stay on the call with her when he spoke up.
"Does Naomi actually like George?"
"Yeah, she does."
"Then I want him to accept her love."
Y/n laughed. "How is he with long-distance relationships?"
"Well, he and I do just fine..." Dream joked. "Oh, not what you meant. I don't know, you guys are the ones that talk about each other's love lives apparently."
"You're still bitter about that?"
"Yes!"
"Suck it up," she laughed. "Naomi would do probably anything to date him so I doubt distance is a problem for her."
"George's sleep schedule is completely messed up, so the time difference wouldn't matter too much. And when he comes to America they can meet in person."
"Wait, he's coming to America?" Y/n gasped happily. "When?"
"There's no set date, but yeah eventually. He'll probably just come to Florida but we've all talked about having a huge meetup with a lot of our friends."
"Oh... cool..."
"Bug? You know you'd be invited to that, right?"
"Oh, really?" she smiled.
"Of course. You're part of the group now."
"Sick," she muttered to herself, but he heard.
"Bug, you're one of my favorite people, do you know that?"
She blushed. "Really?"
"Really."
"You barely know me, Dream."
"Yeah, well, I know enough to know that I'm sorta attached to you."
"Attached to me? In what way?"
He suddenly sounded nervous as if his brain caught up with what his mouth was saying. "I don't know, nevermind."
"No, Dream, what do you mean?" her voice was soft and understanding and it made him feel safe.
"I just... I don't know. I care about you a lot. We met only, what, like a week or two ago, and I already worry about you a lot. Playing games doesn't feel the same anymore unless you're playing with us."
"To be fair, we have been tweeting at each other for much longer than a week or two."
"Yeah, that's true. But it's not the same as actually talking to you."
She smiled shyly. "I care about you a lot too, Clay." His name sounded strange as if it suddenly made everything much more serious. "Sorry, that just kinda slipped. I won't call you Clay if you don't want me to—"
"No, it's okay, it, uh, I like hearing you... say it. But, uh, you can call me whatever you want."
She smiled widely at the nervousness in his voice and the hard pounding of her heart. "I've heard from multiple people that you never stop talking about me."
He laughed timidly. "Maybe. Do you talk about me?"
"Ask Karl," she giggled. "My guess is yes." Her stomach felt tingly and her hands shook lightly. Why did she feel like this all of a sudden? It was late, she reasoned. That, or it was because Naomi had planted the seed of curiosity in her mind. Did Dream like her? No... right?
"I'm sorry if my chat was making you uncomfortable at the beginning when I died..."
"Don't worry, I wasn't uncomfortable."
"It was true, by the way," he paused, "what they were saying. Just... in case you were wondering."
Y/n couldn't wipe the smile off her face, which was growing painful at this point. "What, my voice makes your brain short-circut? That was one comment I saw."
Dream laughed. "More like your entire presence, but... yeah I guess so."
How is someone supposed to respond to something like that? The sweetness in his voice almost made her sick but in a good way.
And just like when he named her Minecraft flower something sweet knowing that no one would see it, why was he still playing up the joke when no one was around?
Not knowing what to say, she decided to let him in on a little secret. "If it matters, you're one of my favorite people too."
"It does."
There was a deathly moment of tense silence as if both of them were screaming to say something but neither did.
"Basically, if we do have a meet-up, I'll sue you if you don't come."
Y/n laughed. "My pockets are empty, sir, so... good luck."
He laughed and it was music to her ears.
"Are you not nervous to show everyone your face? Like, if or when we do all get together."
"Not really. Especially not if it's just to our friends. Are you?"
"Yeah," she admitted.
"Why?"
She sighed. "I'm sure people have me painted in a specific way in their heads and I've seen fanart of me that is way different and way more attractive than I am. I just don't want to let anyone down by not living up to their expectations."
"Bug," Dream said softly, "you couldn't let anyone down."
"You don't know that."
"You can't disappoint real friends or real fans with the way you look."
"To be clear, Dream," she laughed nervously, afraid she would sound conceited, "I don't think I'm ugly. I like the way I look. I'm happy with me. But that doesn't mean I can't still let people down."
"Different than expected doesn't mean disappointing."
His words smacked her in the gut. He was right. Reality and imagination are very different. Neither has to be better or worse than the other. She could look the complete opposite of how someone expects but that doesn't mean they will be either disappointed OR pleased. And why does it matter anyway? If she likes how she looks, who cares what other people think?
"It's also scary to think of getting recognized in public," she admitted. "Being recognized from the start is one thing because it starts off slowly with only a few people knowing your face but if the first time people see your face is when you have millions of fans, the recognition would be overwhelming."
"That's true. I don't think I would mind that much, though."
"Of course not, you're you."
"What does that mean?"
"You like the spotlight."
"I guess. Not all the time."
"Well, what about you?" she asked. "Are you afraid of people knowing what you look like?"
"No. I want to do a face reveal soon but I don't know how I would do it. I want to do it at some kind of event or something but I don't know."
"I need to schedule around when you do it because you'll break the internet. Give us content creators a warning so we can prepare to not get viewers for a week."
Dream laughed. "Oh come on."
"Twitter would just be full of the same picture of you in every single tweet."
"It won't be that big of a deal."
"Something tells me your millions and millions of subs say otherwise."
"Whatever," he said. "As if you wouldn't break the internet too."
"Maybe for a day or two. But you'd break everything for weeks."
"Sure." There was a long pause before Dream softly said, "Karl's lucky."
"How so?"
He didn't speak for a moment, almost like he wasn't prepared for that question because he didn't mean to be heard. "I wish I could know you the way he does."
"You could. He and I knew each other in person first so it's different. You and I could get there eventually."
"You think so?"
"I know so. I trust you a scary amount for someone I met weeks ago."
"I didn't mean to sound like I'm trying to pressure you into showing me your face or telling me your name. I didn't mean like he gets to know what you look like and I don't. I meant, like, I wish we could hang out in person because I prefer that over talking in Discord."
"I get it, Clay. I feel the same way," Y/n said softly. There were a few moments of silence before she spoke again.
"Oh, gosh, it's already four."
Y/n's head snapped to look at her clock, which read 3:57am. "Already?" she whispered. "Dang."
As if acknowledging the time changed the atmosphere, it suddenly felt like 4am. Her back ached from her shifting in her chair so much over the last few hours, never being able to find a good position. The house was eerily quiet and all she heard was the low hum of the heater. The house felt stale, not used to its occupants being so alert and awake at that hour.
"I should probably go to bed..."
"Yeah, me too," Dream agreed. His voice sounded tired. "Thanks for joining us, it was really fun with you."
"Thanks for inviting me. Sorry I made you die. Hopefully you'll still let me back again."
"You're always invited to barge into my streams. Actually."
Y/n giggled again and mentally slapped herself for sounding like a little kid. "Well, you too. You can interrupt my streams anytime."
"I'll hold you to that."
"Goodnight, Clay."
"Goodnight, Bug."

Bede catching s/o in the middle of a breakdown bc she feels like she failed people, bc like I just had a breakdown and I need comfort 😔✌️
Bede held on tightly to the modest paper bag filled with dinner for the night, dessert included that his Mawile was holding with her small arms. He balanced the bag with one hand and his hip as he searched through his pocket for the key to the home the two of you shared. Pressing the key into the small designated hole in the door he gave it a quick turn and unlocked the door.
Him and his Pokemon entered cheerfully, happy to be out of the slowly dropping temperature outside. He sat the food on the table and took the smaller bag from Mawile with an appreciative head pat and laid it next to the bigger one.
“Y/N! We’re home!” The blond called out into the house, looking around for any sign of your presence in the house.
He checked in the kitchen, by now you usually were busily preparing both of your Pokemon’s dinner. Normally you were happily chopping up different kinds of berries to add to the mix of food you prepared for everyone. But the familiar cutting board was setting neatly on the dish rack, and the knife was still snuggled into the knife block, unused.
Bede’s Mawile chirped to him, tugging on his pants leg. ”Maw! Maw!” She pointed to the bathroom down the hallway whose light could be seen from underneath the door.
The boy gave a hum of approval and made his way down the hallway. He reached out his lightly closed fist to tap on the door when he heard a soft whimper emitting from the room.
His eyebrows furrowed as he leaned his ear against the door to listen more closely. The muffled cries no higher than that of a baby Pachirisu continued to come from the bathroom.
The fairy type leader gently pushed the door open with him palm, doing his best not to spook you, but also not quickly enough to make you flinch.
The door made a soft squeak and your e/c eyes immediately turned towards your lover. “Bede…?” You asked after a short sniffle. You were sitting on top of the side of the bathtub, your eyes red and sore looking.
Bede said nothing as his Mawile tapped her way over to you and rubbed against your leg while wrapping her shorter arms around it. He followed his Pokemon and sat next to you on the tub.
“I’m sorry… I just…” You started.
Bede quietly placed his hand on the small of your back and leaned into you. “Tell me what happened. What’s got you like this?”
You felt yourself lean into him, placing your head on his shoulder. You didn’t even have to think about it, your body itself was so comforted with Bede. “I just feel..” you paused and gave another sniff, trying to get your voice to not sound so nasally. “I feel like I’m failing.”
The blond lifted his head from it’s place on top of yours and peered down at you. “Failing? At what?”
You gave a sigh, bunching together the fabric of your shirt between your fingers. “I don’t know… life? People?” your face began to scrunch up, warm tears filling your eyes. “You?”
Bede immediately placed both his hands on your shoulders and forced you to look at him. “Why would you ever feel like you’re failing the people around you?” His face formed a large; and rare, sad expression. “Why would you ever feel like you’re failing me? Is it something that I’ve said?” He asked and scanned your face for a reply. “I know that I can have a sharp tongue, but I would never mean to make you feel as if you’ve failed me.”
Your eyes grew as big as full moons and you shook your head vigorously. “Bede, no no no!” You replied quickly. “You’ve said nothing to make me feel this way!”
“But if I haven’t then…?” He asked you and you deflated, your hands on Mawile’s head.
“Hun, it’s me. It’s all me.” You pulled away for a moment and hugged yourself.
“I’m so… hard on myself. I’m not as talented and amazing at my job as you are. I can’t bring out the inner strength in Pokemon like you can. I can’t provide an entertaining experience of theatre like Miss Opal can. Whatever I do just seems so…trivial in comparison.”
You felt a couple tears fall down your cheeks and you wiped at them. “I do my best to make sure not to give the reporters or media anything that could be used to ruin your reputation that you’ve worked so hard to build. I do my best to make sure that our Pokemon and us have the tastiest meals to eat, they’re taken care of, etc.”
Bede listened silently, his hand on your shoulder, the other on your thigh, letting you speak your troubles.
“Why don’t I ever feel like it’s enough?” you finally said and stared at anything except him, feeling very much exposed and vulnerable. “Like I’m not enough?”
Bede placed both hands on both sides of your cheeks and cradled your face in them. “You worry about people who don’t matter, and their opinions far too much my dear. And you don’t give yourself enough credit for all that you do.”
You blinked and stared at him before he continued.
“The only people’s opinions that matter, is your own. And the people that love you.” He added and leaned in to press a soft kiss to your lips, rubbing his thumbs against your cheeks as he did so.
“Me and Miss Opal love you so much, Y/N. Your family and friends love you as well.” He chuckled. “But not as much as me.”
You laughed lightly and gave him a light punch on his thigh. “You’re so you, Bede.”
He gave a hum on approval and gave you a second kiss, longer this time.
When he finally pulled away, he wrapped you into a warm embrace. “We are our harshest critic, Y/N. But, that voice is never constructive. Anything that your mind has told you, about how you’re a failure, you’re not enough? It’s lying to you. Period.” He gave a squeeze. “You are everything that I have ever wanted, and you are everything that I want to be and better myself by.”
You felt like a boulder had been lifted from your body. “Thank you Bede.” You petted Mawile softly.
“And you too, Millie.”

Some thoughts about canon vs fanon
Canon ship fandoms tend to feel entitled to the imaginary rank of "most valid" because "the creators approved it" and oftentimes attack or act mean towards fanon ones that include one of their own ship's characters with claims like "you lost!!!/Give up!!!/You're disrespecting canon!!!" etc., insulting their ships and overall act as if those ships are lesser somehow.
So in turn, non-canon ships retaliate and get defensive, trying to defend their opinions in any and every way they can... Until the canon ships fight back bc now they feel insultef and try to devaluate the others further.... Usually resulting in the two fractions fighting each other relentlessly and continuously.
... Both sides entirely forgetting that they're fighting about something as mundane as the conceptual romantic potential between nonexistent people.
Hurting each other, insulting one another and trying to invalidate each other's opinions... Over virtually nothing. Ships are after all still all imaginary and so very, very subjective. There's no right or wrong when it comes to opinions after all.
Of course, some ships are better written than others or portray a conceptually more healthy relationship than the other, but that's the brilliant thing about fiction: it's just hypothetical concepts, you can change whatever you don't like and twist and interpret or rewrite it in your favor! It's fun to poke around the source material for inspiration and make up AUs!
The result of that is what I've come to understood "fanon" refers to - transformative fiction that has been adjusted to fit the consumer's preferences.
Canon really mostly means the same, only reduced to the creator's preferences. Some people though have made it mean something else, they made it mean "creator approved/validated" and use it as a reason to put down others (which is something I personally greatly dislike about shipping culture, there's just no need for you to be so mean and aggressive about it?).
However, I think the two terms can and should coexist, neither is more or less valid than the other, it's (imo) just a matter of who the credit of the concept and resulting content goes to.
Calling fanon ships "canon" solely to spite haters and make yourself feel better is (imo) doing the plethora of creators that made the ship what it is a disservice and invalidates their work more than it elevates them and in turn makes you seem ignorant and in denial to the source material, thus exposing yourself to more hate and negativity since it's easy to misinterpret your well-intended claim as an attempt to provocate more beef.
You're just adding to the imaginary rift between canon and fanon... because there really is none, there shouldn't be one, ships are ships, whether the creator approves or not, they'll continue to exist either way and calling something fanon does not mean that it's any less valid or "doesn't exist". It merely means that the ship in question grew from and flourished through the fandom instead of the source material and I personally think that that's one of the most beautiful things about shipping culture.
We worked hard and made them our own thing and we deserve the credit for it. Fanon is not a bad word. Quite the opposite. It shows how much our communities are capable of creating and adapting.
Don't let the negativity and hate get to you, let the haters seethe behind a neat wall of "block this user" if they love wasting their energy on getting angry about nonexistent people so much. Let them power themselves out and move on in the knowledge that it's not your problem to deal with. Engaging with these people only gives them more leverage.
Likewise, everyone should know better than to try and put down other people for having a different opinion from their own. We all just want to have fun, if you go out of your way to invalidate someone else because you simply don't like their preferences, you're part of the problem.
In the end we're still all just nerds that want to see our favorite nonexistent people happy and in love, whether our preferences align with the creator's vision or not, you shouldn't need anyone's approval to like what you like as long as it harms nobody else.

I made this post vaguely in response to some more fandom specific posts I've seen that are dealing with this topic in a way that I personally see as bit unhealthy and figured it couldn't hurt to offer a more neutral stance on the subject matter. her life changed pretty drastically after that ! the hwang name was all over the news, their family was pretty much disgraced by high society in nyc, not a very fun time for anyone but especially not for violet’s mom
after her dad got arrested violet was uhh high key furious with him for ruining their lives with his greed and she wanted nothing to do with him, but her mom couldnt let go. she was still defending him, spending the money they had left on lawyers which included the money the family had set aside for violet’s trust fund that she would have had access to once she was 18 </3
so her plans for college changed pretty drastically JSDBJWBDJW ( goodbye ivy league education ) she actually ended up getting into the university of toronto for visual studies on an academic scholarship
so she made the big move all on her own....moved into a tiny dorm...and vowed to reinvent herself. she didnt wanna be labeled as the daughter of a white collar criminal anymore so she just made it a point not to talk to much abt her past to anyone
her struggles as someone who grew up with $$$$ turning into a broke college student made for some embarrassing but funny moments <3 luckily though everyone else had their own struggles so no one found it suspicious JSBDJWBDJ

she comes across as ... kind of a bitch SDJBJWBJWBDW it’s truly not on purpose she just has a pretty serious resting expression most of the time ( so she looks mad or annoyed even when she isn’t ) and she’s pretty difficult to get to know ? not to mention the fact that no one has ever witnessed her ring someone’s love alarm .. so all that combined just makes it easy to assume she’s some sort of ice queen when that’s far from the truth /:
violet really isn’t one to open up too deep to people, but that’s got a lot to do with the past she’s kind of running away from ! so if you’re her friend most of the stuff you know about her is probably surface stuff, but when she’s close to someone she can make that fact hard to realize ? she just has a way with making the people in her life feel important so it’s easy not to be focused on how much you know about her
never bothers to correct the people that misjudge her. if you don’t like her, if you want to make up assumptions and rumors about her, go ahead like violet really won’t stop you which can sometimes make meeting new people difficult </3 if you’ve seen the dating class webdrama chuu was in she’s kinda like oh seyoung’s chara joowon 🤧
if she wants to, though, she’s pretty good at getting people to like her / trust her ! she does this a lot in professional situations, which is why she’s been doing so well as an art director so far despite being so young

GUIDELINES ( FOR MOBILE USERS )

hi! my name is viking, and i’m the mess of a mun running this blog. i’m above age ( born in nov 1994, so i’m currently 24 as of writing this.) i go by whichever pronouns you wanna refer to me by, i don’t really mind either way. i have avpd as well as szpd, so i am probably more afraid of you than you are of me! anyways, let’s get into the rules! first things first, there’s a few things i want people to keep in mind before writing with jace. the first thing is; your muse is not going to know that he’s not fully human. unless we plot out and agree that your muse should know, please refrain from making vampire references to / about him. second thing is; he’s only half vampire (stating this only bc it seems like people easily forget that he’s also half-human.) third thing is, jace is currently going through abuse from his stepfather, so this blog will revolve around a lot of heavy topics (read more in the ‘triggers’ section.) fourth thing; jace is a hunter, and his stepfather has drilled into him to kill any and all supernatural creatures since he was 12. now, jace does have a moral compass deep down, but he’s not beyond killing supernatural creatures even if they’re innocent out of fear of what will happen to himself if he doesn’t, so unless you’re interested in that, and you’re playing a supernatural muse, you probably shouldn’t let jace know your muse is not human until he’s at least gotten to know them first.

i will not write romantic or sexual relationships. i don’t feel comfortable with it, and besides, jace is aroace, so there’s that. any other type of platonic relationships like friendships, familial, co-workers, etc, is all good though, as long as we plot it out first!

» ACTIVITY.
so, i’ve been rping for too long to stress myself out about getting replies out fast tbh. i’ll write whenever i have inspiration, and will reply to whichever drafts i feel like when i feel like. sometimes i might reply fast, sometimes it might take anywhere between a week to months. be patient, and you shall receive! you also never have to worry about replying fast to me. i’ve happily waited over a year for replies before, it’s really no stress.
» INTERACTIONS.
if i follow you, i want to write with you! that said, it’s probably unlikely i’m going to be the first one to instigate an interaction. not because i don’t want to, but because i struggle really bad with anxious avoidant personality disorder (you can read more about this here) which makes it really difficult for me to reach out, be it ooc or sending ic things. i’m trying to work on it, but as it is right now, i wouldn’t count on it. but if you’re reading this, i 100% encourage you to throw yourself or your muses @me! i post a lot of starter calls / meme calls / plotting calls etc, and have a tag in my navigation for both my calls and memes for this very reason!

i hate doing this, because i didn’t mind before, but lately it’s happened so much that it’s becoming really discouraging. so, please don’t constantly reblog memes from me if you’re never going to send something in. i get that in character memes doesn’t always work / make sense to send from your muse(s) to mine, and i get that anxiety is a thing and all, but if possible, please reblog from the source (and don’t do it right after i’ve reblogged a meme?) because at this point, i feel like a meme source to a lot of my followers. that said though, if you don’t want to send in a meme, don’t. i’d rather you not send one than send it just because you feel like you have to and not because you want to.
» TRIGGERS.
there are some heavy triggers revolving physical and mental abuse on this blog, so if those are topics that trigger you, i recommend not following this blog because i will not downplay the abuse jace has gone through and is currently going through. other triggers include violence, murder, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, self-hatred, self-destructive behavior, alcohol use, just to mention a few. i don’t really have any triggers, so i might end up writing some triggering threads. if you need anything tagged that is not a big part of my muse’s character though, feel free to ask and i’ll probably try to tag it. i try to tag all visual things with tw: trigger, but i might forget.

OOC PSA: Personal Boundaries
So, it’s come to my attention that I need to set up some ground rules for my own comfort. I hate that it’s come to this but I really need to let everyone know where I stand OOC for my own comfort, because the less comfortable I am, the less content I’ll produce (and I do not want to completely drop LLR just because of some run-ins with personal ooc issues like I have other projects). So. I’m going to be blunt and kind of painful about it but I need to get this out there.
Some of these are boundaries that have been recently and repeatedly breached and others are things I’ve learned that need to be clarified from other projects I run. I’m being as blunt and clear-cut as I can be, but if you need more clarification, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m not trying to single anyone out with these, but it’s been a month and a half or so of varied little/big boundary breaches and I need to draw the line in the sand before something bad happens.
Buckle up lads, this is gonna be long.

TL;DR:
I’m not here to make quick friends, I am not here to play therapist or be your creative mentor/sounding board. I am here to write, to draw, to roleplay, and to explore character building with other creatives that I MIGHT get to know in the future.
I’m not very talkative OOC. Don’t feel insulted if we don’t talk every day, bc I physically cannot keep up with that kind of thing.
Don’t call me senpai, smol bean, or treat me like an idol. I’m a person. I don’t like being idolized like an unapproachable celebrity or made out to be a “cutsey wootsey” baby. I’m an adult.
Don’t just befriend me for free artwork. That’s rude and will earn you a permanent block.
Don’t dish out what you can’t take back. Don’t threaten my characters without expecting consequence, and don’t antagonize them without letting me know you’re going to first (the exception is if I approach a muse who very clearly has their antagonistic nature stated in their rules/about page, i,e, a clear-cut or well-known villain character).
I won’t use your work without permission from you directly. I will always try to approach you OOC first for permission to use your content or reference our mutual threads in the AU, canon or not.
Inviting you into my AU doesn’t mean you can use my concepts for yourself or that you have permission to create content for my AU without my permission. I enjoy adding people’s threads as little side-lines, but I’m still writing the AU myself (or with Finn for resET) and prefer strict control over what is/n’t a part of it.
I don’t appreciate people leaking/sharing spoilers I might share in private, even with their close friends. Please don’t be that person.
I don’t feel comfortable with people using my characters/work (including rping them). I know it’s popular to RP from active AUs, but please don’t do that with mine - especially my OCs.

The long detailed list (with more accurate info):
One: I am not your friend, your bestie, or interested in getting close to you unless we take the time to get to know each other, and that won’t happen with everyone. I get that I come off as a friendly and easy to talk to (so I’m told). And that’s what I like to be! I like to be conversational with people when I can, but that’s what you do when you’re a stranger. You assume that sort of “professionalism” with people before actually getting comfortable with them and letting those barriers down. Friendship takes time, especially for me. I don’t like making close friends quickly, and I don’t make friends in general very easily, and I like keeping it that way. It’s nothing against you as a person, I’m sure you’re a great person! I am just too old and too tired/jaded with what I’ve gone through with people both in real life and ESPECIALLY in the tumblr RPC that I CANNOT and WILL NOT make friends quickly. If you cannot respect this, I will not hesitate to cut you off completely.
Addendum: Along those lines: Unless we’ve already MUTUALLY established friendship, please treat our relationship with a sense of professionalism. This means don’t try to buddy-buddy me or expect me to be friendly beyond common courtesy, respect my boundaries as an individual person, and don’t take my common courtesy and friendliness as a sign I’m being “super close friends” with you. Treat me like a stranger - which I AM - and don’t get too personal too fast. As cruel as this sounds, I don’t want to hear about your personal life; I’m not here to play therapist nor am I here to be a shoulder for you to cry on. I’ve not been entirely professional myself I realize, which is going to change from now on. I don’t want to give mixed signals or lead anyone on with my friendliness. I want to maintain professional distance. I’m not going to “click” with everyone I meet nor will you and I necessarily actually hit it off beyond that distance. That’s just life. It doesn’t mean I hate you, it simply means we’re human and don’t get along perfectly.
Two: The Senpai Rule. It’s in my rules for a reason. Please read it.
Three: I am not your design mentor, art resource, or your permanent sounding board. I am willing to OCCASIONALLY look over art for critiques/red lines, find resources, and I am OCCASIONALLY willing to help you with your oc/world building, but I am NOT interested in fully helping you with your design creation or being your world building “buddy” unless I’ve come to know you for some time. I am NOT JUST a sounding board for ideas. If I invite you to share with me or we click very well and just seem to get those creative juices flowing together, that’s different, but IN GENERAL, please don’t only use me for your own world building or growth.
Four: I cannot talk to you every single day, even if we are friends. I am busy, I have mental health issues that make it hard to talk even to my close friends every single day. I am a full time caregiver for my senior mother and I am a full-time artist. I simply CANNOT be there to talk to you every day. I don’t like getting messages every single day, either, unless you already understand that sometimes I won’t reply to them / will take time in getting to them. If I tell you I have no energy to reply, don’t bother me about it. I will not hesitate to stop talking to you entirely if I have to just to get some peace of mind.
Five: I occasionally make art for friends, but I am not a free art/request machine. I don’t often make art for people I care about anymore because people don’t seem to understand that my free time = MY time I can spend making for other people IF I WANT TO. I am not some machine you can put friendship coins into just to get free art out of. If you are befriending me to get art from me or get written into my AUs/stories, get lost.
Six: If your muse threatens, belittles, irritates, or otherwise bothers my characters, my characters will react accordingly. It doesn’t matter if their background is what causes this, or their mental health, or their trauma, or just that they’re a mean ol’ fucker who hates people. If a random stranger walked up to you and said “go fuck yourself,” would you respond by saying “oh, it’s ok! I know you deal with x y z, so I’m not offended!”? No. So don’t expect my characters to react that way. Mental health and trauma are NOT excuses or get-out-of-jail-free cards. Likewise, I OOCly do not like when people insult, attack, or threaten my characters without prompting, ESPECIALLY upon first reactions (unless it’s clearly stated in your about or rules that your character will behave as such), so please don’t do it. There’s a difference between me knowing what I’m getting into and me being approached with such animosity, even IC-based, without prompting.
Seven: Even though I get excited and I AM inviting other people to play in on LLR, LLR is my project (and resET is mostly Finn’s project) and we will do with them as we please. I won’t use any kind of design/fan art/graphic/etc anyone else has made for me/the project without their (usually written bc it’s all text online) permission and without crediting them, but it is ultimately up to ME what does and does not appear in the AU/blog/etc. I will always try and approach someone OOC for their direct permission if I want to use their work/reference our threads/etc if I feel they’d work well with the AU.
Addendum: Inviting you into the AU does not give you creative license over the characters/storyline, it does not give you permission to use my work without asking me first, and it does not mean you are a conceptual partner of mine. I don’t mind ideas being tossed my way for threads or concepts you’d like to write with my characters, though they might not be considered canon unless I ask or I list them on the blog page.
Eight: Kind of obvious but it’ll probably need to be said anyways: If we’re friends/I’m close enough to share spoilers with you, PLEASE DON’T SHARE THEM TO ANYONE. Even your own friends. There’s exceptions to this rule (namely those I’ve known for years/am super close with and know well already), but in general? PLEASE don’t share my secrets. That spoils the fun and makes me less interested in actually posting anything.
Nine: I’ve stated this in my long list of rules, but: please don’t roleplay any of my AU characters, especially my OCs. I’m already roleplaying them and I’m not comfortable in seeing doubles. Especially my OCs because??? Don’t rp other people’s OCs lmao that’s just bizarre and kind of akin to stealing them? Anyways I just need to reiterate that because I know that’s kind of how AUs work on tumblr so. HEADS UP THAT I DON’T LIKE THE THOUGHT OF PEOPLE RPING MY OWN CHARACTERS (ESP WITHOUT MY DIRECT PERMISSION).

Hi!!! MatsuOi is really good™ and important™ pairing so of course I have something for them owo Btw it got really long, so I've put it under the read more. I love your fanfics and hcs btw, I feel honoured you've sent me an ask ;u;
Send me an AU and a pairing and I'll come up with a few headcanons! (no omageverse pls, and if you send more than one AU/pairing specify if you want me to combine them or do them separately, please)
- in this AU they get to know each other in college
- well, it’s not really true either. they have lectures in different buildings, so they don't see each other on campus, but they do recognize each other from the morning bus rides, since they rent flats near each other, at the beggining of the bus route (Mattsun gets on one bus stop earlier than Oikawa), so they spend almost all the ride to the uni in the other’s presence
- the first time they notice each other they sneak glances (bc holy moly, he’s handsome), but immediately avert their eyes if they see the other looks at him too
- they never talk, but notice each other every day and after a few weeks even smile for greeting
- the first time Oikawa (or rather “The Pretty Boy from the Bus” as Mattsun calls him in thoughts) smiles at him, Mattsun feels his heart skip a beat and he blushes
- he looks away, bitting his lip to stop this stupid, giddy smile from appearing on his face (because it definitely will be too wide and too happy and too quick just for smiling back, he doesn’t want to look like an idiot or a creep or a twelve year old with a crush - even tho he defenitely feels like this right now - get a hold of yourself Issei-), because the other boy’s smile????? He felt charmed by The Pretty Boy, and has seen him smile already (at some text or something on his phone) but the smile just now, directed at HIM, absolutely stole his heart, okay?
- Oiks acts nonchalant, but screams inside because hoW CAN HE BE EVEN CUTER WTF ILLEGAL
- Mattsun thinks about The Pretty Boy's smile all day
- and Oiks thinks about this cute blushing face
- the next morning Mattsun is the one, who smiles first and Oiks smiles back of course
- they smile all the ride to their uni tbh
- (wow, I got kinda carried away but I swear we're getting to the actual college part now)
- one day Oiks isn't here
- Mattsun is dissapointed but thinks maybe The Pretty Boy overslept and was late for the bus
- but the next day he's not here either
- or the next day
- or the next
- Mattsun is pretty worried but has no way of checking if The Pretty Boy is okay
- luckily, the next Monday, Oiks comes back
- Mattsun is so relieved and happy to see The Pretty Boy again, that he comes to him and asks where has he been the past few days
- it was more on a whim and tbh Mattsun is terryfied of what he just did, because The Pretty Boy is even prettier up close, how will he be able to form coherent sentence when The Boy is so distracting? his chocolate brown eyes? faint freckles on his cheeks and nose? pretty. and his hair look really really soft and Mattsun feels the urge to check by himself if they're as soft as they look. and his lips-
- The Pretty Boy smiles softly and charmingly and teases him: why? did you miss me~? he explains that he was just sick, but he's okay now
- tho in the inside Oiks freaks out because the boy he likes noticed his absence??? was kinda worried apparently??????
- Mattsun says he's glad that he's back. Oiks says he's glad, too
- neither of them really knows what now and only sneak glances for a moment again. and smile like idiots
- finally Mattsun asks if Oiks really goes to the uni here. Oiks confirms and they fall into conversation
- Mattsun is studying medicine. he wants to be a pediatrist one day. says he has a bit of experience with children bc he often had to take care of his younger siblings when his parents weren't home. or his younger cousins bc he's one of the oldest in his generation in his family (Oiks tries to imagine Mattsun with children but can't. the vision of tall, sleepy-looking Mattsun with a few kids, smoll beans full of energy, doesn't really fit lmao)
- Oiks is studying astronomy but he aims to become professional volleyball player and the astronomy degree is just supposed to be plan B. he plays in the city's club
- Mattsun played volleyball too, tried to play in the uni, too, but you have to study a lot on medical degree so he had to stop. but he still loves volleyball
- "We're playing a match next weekend, Mattsun, you can come to watch m- us, if you want~" "What is with this nickname?"
- they give each other phone numbers and they start to text each other
- they text about everything - about their passions, their friends and families, their plans and dreams, their problems... and they text before lectures, they text after lectures, they text during lectures, they text-
- they always talk during the bus rides and are kinda dissapointed when they reach the uni and have to part their ways, but they often meet up when their lectures end
- Mattsun comes to watch Oikawa's match on Saturday. it's just a friendly match of the second squad of the club
- he's surprised by THIS Oikawa, so serious, focused and determined. well, "surprised" isn't the best word. he's fascinated. he knows Oiks as kinda childish, happy-go-lucky, charming, cute guy. but this Oikawa. he's hot
- Mattsun feels chills running up his spine every time Oiks scores service ace
- he whispers "fuck me" at one point and his heart stops for a moment when Oiks immediately yells "maybe later"... to one of his teammates. it was just a stupid coincidence and Mattsun feels kinda relieved he wasn't caught, but also kinda dissapointed
- he waits for Oiks after the match and compliments him (and discovers that blushing Oiks is really cute??? How can this guy be so cute, hot and then adorable again in matter of seconds?????)
- Oiks asks if Mattsun wants to hang out
- they go to the cinema
- the movie is so bad... at first they really wanted to watch it (or... tried to. they couldn't really focus on it), but then it got so ridiculous and they made fun of it all the time to the end credits
- they were coming back home by the bus but Mattsun got off with Oiks. he insisted on walking him to his flat
- neither of them really knows who initiated this, but suddenly they were holding hands
- they didn't really want to part their ways and just stood under Oiks's block of flats, still holding hands, staring into the other's eyes, relucantly thanking for the nicely spend time (relucantly - because they really don't want the day to end and they just hope the time would just stop and they could be like this forever)
- then Oiks wants to invite Mattsun to his flat, bc it's Saturday and his roommates came back home for weekend so the flat is only his rn, but he can't bc suddenly there are Mattsun's lips on his own and the kisses are slow and shy at first, but full of passion
- they end up spending the night in Oiks's flat. they don't really sleep much.
- they start officially dating after this
- they are very affectionate with each other. there's a lot of psychical contact between them, regardless if they're holding hands, entwining their legs when they're sitting on the sofa and watching tv, kissing the other on the back of their hand/temple/forehead/cheek/nose/lips or if they're just leaning on each other in the library, when they study to their exams (their friends were kinda annoyed at all this PDA but they got used to this eventually)
- they love cuddling. Mattsun gives the best hugs btw. they're strong, warm and make you feel so safe. whenever Oiks feels overhelmed and stressed - he goes straight to Mattsun and Mattsun holds him surely all the time until Oiks says what's bothering him
- Mattsun on the other hand loves when Oiks runs his hands through his hair. if he's feeling upset or just especially affectionate, he lays his head on Oiks's laps and Oiks grooms his hair almost automatically now, bc he's so used to this
- they go on a lot of dates, but there are no fancy restaurants or anything. they're both romantics at heart and they're perfectly fine with walks under the starry sky or sharing ice cream or picnics in the woods or just watching movies in the cinema or apartament one of them lives in
- there are a lot of gifts tho. small ones like alien pendant or Oiks cooking hamburgers for Mattsun, or big ones like big, thoughtfully planned date in the amusement park or a movie/music album with signature of their favourite actor/musician won with a lot of effort in the auction in the internet
- there was only one big fight between them - when Oiks got into the first squad in his club. he started kinda overworking himself (not much, but it was kinda harder for him to find time for others, Mattsun included) and Mattsun was worried. they quickly made up and Oiks still trained a bit more to hold his position in the first squad, but with Mattsun's help he was able to find time for everyone and everything important
- the time they go meet Mattsun's family is a trip Oiks won't ever forget. Mattsun's parents are really nice and all the siblings and cousins love him???? the smallest ones run to him when they see him and Mattsun can't even fully enter his home, because he opens the door and suddenly there are screams full of joy ("Issei" or just "Sei") and there are kids hanging from his arms and hugging his legs and climbing up his back???? and the older ones, who are teens now, greet him with a smile and ask him to help them with their homework or play cards/board game/some multiplayer online game with them, his mom and aunts have to intervene and ask them all to give Issei a room to breath, he will be there all weekend, keep calm-
- the kids like Oiks too, btw, but Mattsun is still their fav. all the time Oiks and him are there, at least one kid hangs out with them too
- Oiks thinks it's adorable and that Mattsun would be not only great pediatrist but an amazing dad too wait what who said that-
- the exams time is hard for them because they study a lot and don't see each other as much, but they're unseparable when the exams are over
- they rent a flat together on their second year and adopt a dog
- and live happily ever after

Hey! So I know that you're the most famous person of the kabby fandom (and I love you btw) so there's something I need to tell you. I've seen a lot of people from the kabby fandom (which I am a part of it) getting mad whenever someone on twitter doesn't like Kane or Abby, saying that it's because they are ageist which I think is really annoying (like they start going off on them almost every time ) 1/2

Okay. So.
There’s a lot to unpack here.
I have a lot of thoughts, some of which may notbe the thoughts you were hoping that I would have. I do want to thank you for your very sweet words, but I also want to address a few things about this askI find extremely frustrating, not with the intent of making you feel bad butbecause I think there are some big conversations here worth having in a broadercontext.
First and foremost, and this is something most ofyou have heard me reiterate many times, I am a strong advocate of peopleaddressing their problems with each other directly. If you saw someone on Twitter accuse someoneof being ageist and you disagree, that’s fair to say! Social media is a free and open exchange ofideas. Also, if you’re a member of theKabby fandom, and you witness another member of the Kabby fandom engaging inbad internet behavior, call them out! It’salways better for communities to go collect their own people when they crossthe line rather than expecting others to do it. If your fellow fan tweets something mean, call it out. We all need to do our part to shut that stuffdown and make the fandom a better place. But the right forum for that is to bring it up with the person whoactually said or did the thing you’re upset about, and not to bring it to acompletely unrelated party.
Which brings me to my second point: I’m extremelyuncomfortable being addressed as though I speak for the entirety of the Kabbyfandom. I don’t. No one person does. Fandoms are communities made of individualpeople who have shared interests, but there’s no hierarchy. I don’t want to bethe Bad Fandom Behavior Police. This is especially frustrating when I getasks where one member of the fandom comes to Kabby Mom about something anothermember of the fandom did … especially when it’s something I wasn’t part ofand didn’t witness.
And that, my dear Anon, is the big problem that I’mhaving with this request. I don’t haveany idea what incident you’re referring to, what was said, by whom, to whom, orwhat the context was. You’re asking meto agree with you that somebody was out of line, and that, quote, “that’s whypeople don’t like us.” But I can’t grantthat premise without knowing what you’re talking about.
(Also, by the way, I would urge you to let go ofspending too much time caring about whether other fandoms like us. I can assure you, most of them honestly probablyaren’t thinking about us that much.)
If I understand the situation correctly, and ifwe’re referring to a real incident and not a hypothetical, you’re saying that PersonA tweeted something negative about Kabby and Person B said “that’s ageist.” You, Anon, believe that Person A was not being ageist, that Person B overreacted,and that B is the one whose behavior is the problem. And that’s certainly one possibility. But the other possibility is that maybePerson A was being ageist but neither Person A nor you have recognizedit.
And I cannot make that determination for you,because you haven’t told me anything concrete, and I wasn’t there.
I am also a thirty-six-year-old woman in a fandomfull of teenagers and if you are not thirty-six then it is entirely possiblethat you and I are seeing the concept of ageism from two very different andincompatible points of view in the first place.
That being said, if you want my opinion, here is my opinion.
First, there really is no excuse for being a jerk onthe internet, no matter what you disagree about. There will always be people who love thingsyou hate and hate things you love and ship things you find incomprehensible andreject headcanons you treat as gospel, because we all fandom in our ownways. So if you’re asking me, shouldKabby shippers get a pass on being jerks to non-Kabby shippers just because I,personally, ship Kabby, my answer to that is, “of course not, that is insane.�� Disagreement and discussion are always okay;Twitter is a public forum, and if someone voices an opinion, you get to haveyour own opinion about it. But being ajerk is never okay.
In general, I am a strong proponent of stayingin your lane. I’m a pretty ruthless curator of my Twitter and Tumblr feeds, soI don’t follow anyone who talks shit about Kane or Abby (I have a one-strikeblock policy with this), and I recommend this approach to everyone. Make your social media feed your happy place.
Now, there are lots of people in the fandom who don’tlike, or simply don’t care for, Kane and/or Abby. There are probably plenty of reasons forthis, and not, not every single one of these reasons is inherently ageist. HOWEVER!The fact that you did not see the comment in question as being ageist does not actually mean it was not ageistor that the person who called them out was wrong for doing so.
Ageism is hardwired into the very fabric of oursociety – like misogny and heterosexism and racism – and just like with thoseother -isms, most of the time when we serenely think that we are guiltless ofit, we are lying to ourselves. And that goes for internalized prejudices,too. This stuff is ingrained in us from birth. In general, the sameway I am inherently suspicious of white people saying “I AM ZERO PERCENTRACIST” and men saying “I AM THE MOST FEMINIST MAN TO EVER MAN”, I tend to takewith a grain of salt the words of people much younger than me talking about ageism in this fandom because I actually see it a lot.
And fam, we need to talk about the differencebetween fandom discourse about Abby and fandom discourse about Kane.
Now, your mileage may vary, but I will say thatin my personal experience, when I stumble upon someone who does like Abby but doesn’t likeKane, I agree that it frequently has its roots in reasons which are notinherently, automatically ageist. Ittends to be rooted rather clearly in plot. More often than not, they’re still tripping up over something he did in aprevious season that they can’t get past. (We should probably save the conversation about our fandom’s selectiveforgiveness problem for another time.) Theycan’t get past the Culling, or arresting/shocklashing/attempting to float Abby,or being too hard on Bellamy, or losing the election to Pike by choosing toally with the Grounders, or floating Aurora or Jake, or just in general being amega-dick in the pilot. And that’sfine! I mean I feel like you’re missingout by giving his four-season character development arc short shrift andignoring the way all the terrible things he’s done in the past shaped him intoa better person once he confronted them, but whatever! The point is that, you’re right, thatreasoning is not, in and of itself, inherently ageist. That’s not to say that there aren’t any fanswho straight-up just don’t like him because they think old guys are boring, forthe most part, when I see people dislike Kane, it’s a reaction to something that he did.
But we actually do need to talk about ageism andAbby in this fandom. Because it is a big fucking problem.
The problem with ageism and Abby is that moreoften than not, from what I’ve seen, when people dislike Abby, it’s a reactionto who and what she is. It is absolutely impossible to separate itfrom internalized misogyny and the way older women are systematically devaluedby our culture in ways that sometimes we can’t even see as ageist, because they’rejust hardwired into us.
Sure, every once in awhile you get an easy one,and someone whines on Twitter about “gross old person sex,” and then you canpoint to it very clearly, and nobody will dispute that we’re talking aboutageism here. But it’s often so muchmurkier than that. Ageism can look likea lot of different things, many of which you’ll believe are completelyunrelated.
Ageism can look like fans who show up in thecomments of the writers’ room Twitter and Instagram when they post pictures ofthe adults to say “nobody cares about them, post [whoever I personally stan themost] instead.”
Ageism can look like gifset after gifset featuring “leading ladies of The 100″ where they include Fox and Maya and Charlotte, but not Abby (who has second billing in the cast after Clarke).
Ageism can look like a blanket refusal, under inany situation where Clarke and Abby are at odds, to grant that Abby might havea point, even when the narrative is clearlytelling us that Clarke is the character at fault. The tendency within thisfandom for young girls who closely identify with Clarke to graft their own momfrustrations onto Abby is virtually never-ending, and it can be hard to sift throughthe the complex intersection of ageism and misogyny that makes it impossiblefor them not to see mothers as human beings who are interesting, who are wise,who are right, who know things their children do not, who are sexual, who areallowed to make mistakes, who deserve screen time and plot agency, who are justas vital to the story as the teenagers.
Ageism can look like giving Clarke sole creditfor establishing peace with the Grounders through Lexa, when in fact it wasKane who made the first contact with her and got her to offer the treaty in thefirst place, and it was Abby turning Lincoln from a Reaper back into himselfagain that cemented the alliance.
Ageism can look like shutting down Kabby shippersgleefully enjoying headcanons about bunker baby theory because Abby is “too oldto have a baby” – a misconception that has permeated so deeply into our culturethat we have all internalized the belief that no woman is supposed to have ababy over the age of 35 as though it is inarguable scientific fact, even thoughit may interest you to know thatis a myth. (“What? How did I notknow that that was a myth?” BECAUSE OUR ENTIRE SOCIETY IS AGEIST TOWARDS WOMENAND THE STUDY THAT GAVE US 35 AS THE MAGIC STOP NUMBER IS FROM LIKE THE 1700’S,THAT’S HOW FEW FUCKS THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY GIVES ABOUT UP-TO-DATE RESEARCH ON THEHEALTH OF OLDER WOMEN)
Ageism can look like a fan who ships all thenon-canon ships … except Doctor Mechanic, because it’s “gross” and “Abby isbasically her mom.” The inherentdesexualization of age-difference relationships is often rooted in ageism. You don’t have to ship it! But if you insist that no one should ship it, then there may be some ageism in the rootsof your ship-shaming.
My point here, dear Anon, is that if you arelooking for someone to tell you, “you’re right, Kabby shippers overreact aboutageism in this fandom,” you are barking up the wrong tree, because from where Istand, as a woman far closer to Abby’s age than Clarke’s, I’m going to venturethat we don’t talk about ageism enough. And like many -isms in our society, if itdoesn’t appear to you to be that big a problem, that may be because it doesn’tapply to you. (Yet.)
Now, to be clear – before someone sends me anangry rebuttal to this – not in a million years am I saying that it makes you inherently ageist if you don’t shipKabby. Just like it doesn’t make you inherentlyhomophobic if you don’t like Lexa or inherently racist if you don’t like Bellamy or inherentlymisogynist if you don’t like Clarke. Butall squares are rectangles, even if not all rectangles are squares. By which I mean that, contained within thegroup of people who don’t ship Kabby, there is a lot of ageism, just as,contained within the group of people who hate Bellamy, there’s a lot ofproblematic racial shit, and it means we need to have a clearer understandingof where those lines are so that we recognize the ugly stuff when it shows upon our timeline and call it out when we see it.

Alright, aus upon aus, and i want more. Give us your thoughts on their classpects.
Hello friend who is enabling my age old Homestuck obsession,sorry it so long to get back to you. Trust me, I have been thinking about thisask near constantly since I got it. Ijust took my time figuring it out, bc I really wanted to get it right. (For those without HS knowledge, a Classpect is the Class and Aspect of each game player, their Class being their game role, and Aspect being their powers.)
This is a shit tonof character analysis, and by god, I enjoyed every second I put into it. I gotto break down each of their characters, character flaws, and their truestpotentials. I should do this more often. It’s a lot of fun.
I made a bit of an essay out of this ask. I’m sorry. I rambleda shit ton. Buckle down if you chose to read this, it’s a long one.
So without further due, my headcanons for the 2012 six main kids(plus Karai) and their Classpects:
Leonardo I wouldplace as a Mage of Void. Mages will uniquely experience their Aspect, bothgood and bad. As a result, they gain a unique understanding of what theirAspect is or does. Their challenge is to become open to new insight ordifferent perspectives than their own.
A Mage of Void would seemingly be suffering from ‘Nothing’,(Void pun lmao), and thus no one would suspect something would be botheringLeo. But, and this is my own personal headcanon territory, I’d say Leo has beenrepressing and avoiding hisexperiences with the Shredder for the last three seasons, ever since he endedup in that coma of his. Something that traumatic drastically changed his characterfrom someone who might’ve been a bit controlling and overbearing at times, intosomeone who needs to be in charge of nearly everything and pushes his teammatesto lengths they don’t want to be. (And Splinter passing on the mantle of leaderand sensei to Leo has not helped that complex in the least.)
To avoid feeling useless, or unneeded, or like he’s failingexpectations, Leo overcompensates and does his best to make his own personaldoubts disappear (into the void). Underneath that though, I believe hestruggles, even without realizing it, with being unnecessary or ignored. (whilehe’s made firm effort to be heard and listened to by his siblings, it hasn’tbeen a healthy coping mechanism for anyone since Leo is still just avoiding hisrepressed issues, and making life a lot harder for everyone around him. see myfiction These Days for more about this, when I get around to publishing the Leochapter.)
As a Mage, Leo would probably be able to let go of all thesenegativities if he’d just open himself up to other options, other views andideas. He needs a stern talking to about how a leader is actually meant to act,(Leading, not ordering around. Keydifference here.), and a good long self-reflection period. If he faced histrauma, and his repressed issues, he’d be able to truly lead the team as heoriginally wanted to, and just be a much happier individual all around.
Donatello I wouldput down as a Knight of Blood. Knights hide a fear of a perceived fundamentalfailure with their Aspect behind a shield of confidence and obsessive effort.Their challenge is to learn to take it down a notch and to understand that theyare skilled enough.
Blood can mean a lot of things; blood bonds, blood brothers,blood relations. Donnie’s whole role in the family is centered around hisability to provide support and stability to his brothers, through hiscontinuous and never ending work to protect and build for them all. His empathyis the strongest out of all of them, reaching out to people easily andsympathizing with their struggles. Of course, this doubles back as a negativeon occasion, since Donnie is attempting to give more than he should, and thusexhausting himself as he fights against his imagined failings.
Knights of Blood tend to feel deeply insecure or inadequaterelating to something Flesh or Blood about them. In this case, that would beDonnie’s mutantness compared to the rest of the world, and his struggles inninjutsu. While his brothers take to martial arts with vigor and enthusiasm,Donnie prefers to spend time in his head or lab, and while he is skilled asthey are, he would likely still see himself as a lesser member of his family.He’s the odd man out, both in family, and to the rest of the world. The reasonsthat set him apart are never going to change, and those are heavy things toweigh on a kid, especially one as socially isolated as Donnie.
Of course, if Donnie was given mutual effort and supportfrom his family, he’d be able to become as stable as the work he does for themall. Reassuring a Knight that they’re good enough, that their skill and workand Aspect are things that they’re able to excel at, that you do in fact lovethem for who they are, would probably be all Donnie needs. To move past theperceived failings he has (of not being enough, or not being accepted for whohe is) he needs some good old TLC and genuine appreciation from his brothersand friends. (And his dad, who never once praised him for being himself through the whole series.)
Honestly, just give the genius the credit and attention andcare he deserves, and his emotional/mental state would improve 300%. Seriously.It’s that simple.
Michelangelo I’dplace as an Heir of Breath. Heirs naturally gravitate towards their Aspector unconsciously seek it out. All Heirs so far have huge amounts of Aspectrelated strength. Their challenge is to not get stuck on one thing and to knowwhen to move on and adapt.
Mikey is air and wind and other related words in a lot ofsenses. He’s finicky and whimsical, and tends to just do whatever the hell hefeels like. When he does listen toyou, it’s because he feels like it,not because someone else wants him to. This has caused a lot of trouble incanon, Mikey going off on an adventure of his own making because he caughtsomething interesting and won’t let it go until he feels like it. His charactersums up to be either hyper focused on oneparticular thing, or be completely distracted by ten plus ideas or eventswithout really getting involved with any of them.
He coasts through happenings and fights without ever reallyletting them touch him; off in his own world rather than deal with theharshness of reality. Heirs of Breath are notorious for seeming indifferent oruncaring because of this tendency. Mikey’s go to reaction to lighten asituation, or full stop ignore it, is a fine example of how Breath players copewith traumatic events. Didn’t happen if they don’t admit it did!
It makes Mikey out to be this very callous person, since henever gives time or effort to the things other people need him to, and keeps tohis own wants instead. But he is a very caring person, being the mostemotionally open and connected person in his family. He simply never chooses touse that openness in the right situation, or actually come back down to earthto be a stable member of the team. Currently, the best way of getting him tofocus on anything is to just throwhim at the problem and let him take it apart from there. I nearly put him in aDestroyer class because of that trait in Mikey; his ability to enter any sortof situation, and tear it to pieces if he feels like it. But, in the end, histrait to avoid a situation entirely by leaving reality entirely places him better as an Heir.
To overcome this part of himself, the whimsical destructionand deliberate ignorance, Mikey would need to buckle down and actually dealwith his issues, rather than pretend they’re not there for the rest ofeternity. He needs to learn to keep his promises, fulfill his obligations, andbe there emotionally for his family. (He is sometimes, but only when it suitshim.)
Raphael is innearly every canon, a destroyer of sorts; which is why I’ve placed him as a Princeof Doom. Princes ghost theiropposite Aspects as they destroy theirs. They are violently stubbornpessimistic people that stop at nothing to reach their goals. Their challengeis to not destroy themselves along their destructive path.
Princes of Doom are reckless, full of energy, and nearunstoppable when they hit their stride. Raph is a battering ram against thingsthat get in his way, and his temper is no help in curbing his destructivetendencies. His solution to a problem is 9/10 times to just destroy itcompletely. Someone or something gets between him and his family’s goals, he’lltake them out. No ifs ands or buts about it.
This is both a bane and a boon, since destroying barriers orblocks can mean destroying enemies or metaphorical restrictions. Raph is arebel, and a loud one at that, and has never been the type to let rules orthreats stop him from doing something. Sometimes this works in everyone’sfavor, sometimes it causes a painful fallout for everyone except Raph; theresult of Raph charging ahead without hindrance or regard for others aroundhim, or pushing and shoving until he gets his way. His go to reaction is alwaysto force people into his view ofthings, even if it’s through physical violence and someone gets hurt.
Using his destructive impulses correctly, including hisanger issues, would give Raph the strength and momentum to bowl down anythingthat attempted to hurt his family. Princes are horrifically powerful at theirpeaks, and at the top of that peak a Prince of Doom would be able to doomanyone who got in their path. Raph could be the warrior he’s hinted athaving the potential to be, dependable and fierce and strong as bedrock, and ifhe got his head out of his own emotions he’d be able to realize that potential.
But as it is, Raph still stands a chance of being swallowedby his own Doom, since in canon he has yet to really grab hold of that temperof his (we’ve had what, like five episodes or something of him trying over andover to do that? bs, I tell you) and continues to physically push his siblingsaround whenever he doesn’t like what they’re saying/doing. (Looking at you,elevator scene, all the ones like it.)
April is acharacter that has grown and changed drastically over the season, and to methis screams Page of Hope. Pagesstart with a deficit in their Aspect that they confidently overcome through obviousovercompensation. Their challenge is to keep at it, even if they fail and thejourney is slow, for they become the strongest players
April started out as the team’s weakest link; new toninjutsu, new to espionage, new to everything. And then she hit her stride (andalso got traumatized a bunch of times) and became the most powerful above all. Seriously,she’s got enough power to warp the face of the earth; she was literally designedto be the genocidal weapon that would wipe out the human race. And, her powersdepend pretty much completely on her own emotions, confidence, and mentalwillpower. (Also, she gets glowy and floaty when she uses them, especially ather peak power, which resembles super closely Hope magic.)
In the beginning of the series, April was well-meaning andsomething pretty close to naïve. She depended nearly entirely on the boys fortheir help in things, tended to hang back when things went south. Then, becauseApril O’Neil is no one’s damsel in distress for long, she started to takecontrol of her life best she could and became this furious martial artist thatdidn’t let anyone get in her way. She tended to let people’s views influence herown at first, sometimes even believing boldfaced lies, but now no one can hide shit from her. She’s thehuman lie detector, and her own opinions are the ones she follows.
While the rest of the kids here have a quest or two tocomplete, April has already finished hers. She’s her own person, in control ofher own life and beliefs, and ten times as powerful as her season 1 self. At thispoint, the only things holding her back is her A) restraints on her powers,which could be even stronger if she’d let go of the (already flimsy) morals shehas, and B) her deference to Leo as the leader. (Leo is making one bad callafter another these days; April should really just defect to the Foot clan(read as ‘Karai and Shinigami’s Murder Ladies Only Club’) and embrace the sheerdeadliness of herself.)
Pages go from the weakest player on the team to the mostpowerful, and we heard Kravaxas say it himself. April is far more powerful than her mutant friends at this point, and willonly keep getting more powerful, so long as she works for it and believes inher abilities.
Casey, because he’sa problematic little shit, ended up with the same Class as Mikey, being an Heirof Life. Once again, Heirs naturally gravitate towards their Aspect orunconsciously seek it out, etc etc etc, and their challenge is to not get stuckon one thing and to know when to move on and adapt.
An Heir of Life fits Casey perfectly, much to my annoyance aboutrepeating Classes. They’re completely unrestricted in almost every way, havingno rules, no limits and no boundaries of any kind. They’re openly dominating,reckless, and full of optimism in everything they do. They are also extremelyeffective at what they do and have no problem rejecting anything that theythink isn’t valid or not useful to them. They have no problems sacrificingothers and breaking rules in order to open up more options for themselves andmake themselves even less restricted by everything. Sounds like Casey to a T,right?
Rather than how an Heir of Breath copes with their problems,ignoring them completely, Heirs of Life charge right into things and make their problems go away. Let itnever be said that Casey jones backed down from any sort of fight; he’ll just keep going until he can’t, and thenpush through anyways. Any problem, any obstacle, any sort of block or adversaryCasey has ever faced have all been dealt with the same way: bullheadedenthusiasm and utter confidence in himself to come out the victor.
Of course, this still tends to get him into trouble, and he’syet to learn temperance to his unfaltering attitude. Casey resilience to anysituation he encounters is admirable to say the least, buuuuuut he is alsousually the one to have gotten himself into said situation. He needs to learnto not tunnel focus on an obstacle, and look before he leaps. Only then will hestop getting himself into easily avoidable situations.
(And because I have a rough plot for a fic I want to write inthe future, I’m throwing in Karai’s too.)
Karai I see as a Witchof Time. Witches are enthusiastic, confident and optimistic rebels.They break and change the physical and metaphysical “Rules” of their Aspect.Their challenge is to use their rule breaking powers in a morally consciousway.
Karai is a not so morally conscious individual, and is inmany ways a rebel. She originally followed her (shitty fake adopted) father’sword without questions, and was fiercely loyal, but once she found out thetruth… well, she’s done nothing since then but try to tear the Shredder topieces, and I don’t blame her in the least.
She manipulates and schemes and does so with utterconfidence in herself. She’s put a lot of Time and effort into seeing her falsefather’s downfall, and she did in a clever and brilliant manner. (And I fuckinghate canon for robbing her of her own arc’s conclusion, and instead shunted thewhole thing over to Leo, while Karai was written into being ‘okay’ with notgetting her very well deserved vengeance.Fuck this fucking show, god.)
While Karai’s future position as a criminal empire warlordis one I fully agree with, I do think she needs to learn to mind the fallout ofher actions a bit better. Yes she should continue to forge her path ahead withall the fighting and gore that comes with being a ninja, but she should watchout that she doesn’t hurt people she shouldn’t in the process. (See: the BrokenFoot episode, where she brought Leo on and not the other boys, encouraged thesecrecy of things from the family, and resulted in Donnie being injured badlyenough he needed magical healing.)
Also: Karai would be fucking terrifying as a Timeplayer. She could do anything she wanted to the fabric of someone’s Time (theirpast, present, future) and no one would be able to stop her once she’d put hermind to it. I would pay good money to see this come to be, because I do love awoman with a goal and not a lot of care how she reaches it.
