thinking about how romanians described women as a light brighter than the sun in folk tales and legends, shining so blindly one couldn't even look at it. a presence so etheral, a being so mythical, magical, that not even the SUN, a real star in the sky very much worshipped all over the globe, can't compare to her, a woman.

I think about them, all the time, at all hours of the day.
Every time I'm sheltered from rain, every time I get to hold my brother in my arms, safe, alive.
I pray, but I'm so enraged and disappointed and helpless and distraught and I love each and every soul so, so much.
I wish I could grieve them all like they deserve.
I wish none of this would have happened.
I know you do too. So cry for them, and don't. stop. fighting.
Protect Palestianan children. Ceasefire now

what’s ikea doing in romania?
Illegal deforestation of our ancient forests
Tumblr media
(The author does incorrectly call Romania a Soviet state when we were only part of the Warsaw Pact instead)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The article talks about how those journalists and environmentalist were attacked by 15 armed thugs and the police response (of basically letting the attackers go) as well as Romanian forests make up the vast majority of old-growth forests left in Europe

But Ikea is not the only one doing it
This article talks about Austrian companies doing the same illegal deforestation

And it gives a better picture of how much forest is lost per year

in romanian we have three translations for the verb "to marry" and the noun "married"
- verb: a (se) însura; noun: însurat *for men
- verb: a (se) mărita; noun: măritată *for women
- verb: a (se) căsători; noun: căsătorit/ă *neutral
and i think this is nicely complicated 😅
