I just read your posts about how Zelink is canon and I totally agree. I’m surprised at myself because I usually don’t enjoy straight couples in games and stuff but I found myself really happy about the cutscenes in BOTW. I know they’re not exactly a regular couple and the situation in BOTW is pretty different from the typical straight couple. What do you think about what makes them stand out as more interesting or memorable than a regular couple? I know you have headcannon that their both trans which is really great, so does that mean you view it as more of a queer couple?
i mean. i think part of it is that i dont really care if a couple is straight or not. like i know a lot of queer people have a natural aversion to like "stereotypical" straight couples who are like super acceptable/mainstream but like. a couple being queer or not doesnt really affect how i view them personally. Im someone who grew up watching romance anime and reading romance books and just generally was (and still am) totally into the romance genre, so i got a lot of straight couples by nature and i dont think that really impacts the relatability/enjoyment of the relationship for me necessarily. it's more about how they're written. is the buildup natural, do they really seem to like and trust each other, is there genuine chemistry between them, etc. and like obviously as a nblw i really appreciate queer relationships in media that are more representative of my experience, but just because a couple is straight doesn't mean i can't still relate to them or enjoy their story, yknow? zelink for me is a really enjoyable ship because it has obvious natural buildup of trust and affection and is realistically complex and nuanced and fits into the context of the greater narrative. that's all it really takes for me to get invested in a relationship, queer or otherwise

It is such a desperate, clawing thing—Monsoon crumbles into him, smearing ash against his body. Monsoon is the one to wrap itself around him, because it knows that these are the last moments. It cannot muster the strength to clutch him as close as it would like, but it is not afraid. Why would it ever be? It's right here, where it began and where it will end, in the same arms that raised it. Fear has no place in its existence when Indigo is there.

this scene right here got something across to me that the anime absolutely did not. so we've kind of established that the carnivore herbivore dynamic in the world of beastars is a very complicated metaphor that means different things at different times. its not JUST race relations, its not JUST sexuality, its not JUST inequality, it is everything about a society through this lens of animal instinct to highlight whatever particular criticism is being dissected.

Legosi is viewing pina's freedom to speak his mind and live freely as something he gains in his life via a position of privilege. Pina will never be consumed by the instinct to murder and cannibalize his loved ones, and so pina can pursue life in a flippant, disingenuous and carefree manner.
and legosi FUCKING HATES THISSSSS because the entire bald legosi arc is about legosi trying to EMPOWER HIMSELF THROUGH SELF HATRED. legosi's refusal to eat meat to fuel his body the way it NEEDS to be fueled when stressed and trained the way hes training is not something done out of moral obligation, it is done as a way for legosi to try and forcibly EXCISE a part of his innate BIOLOGY that he HATES.
but yknow heres something else. this doesnt sound right to me. pina is hedonistic, sure, but why is his philosophy specifically "morals don't really do us much good" and not something more, lets say, benevolently hedonistic?
our girl haru gives us our answer.
while legosi views pina's devil may care attitude as a privilege, so too do herbivores view carnivore's strength as a privilege. pina will never be COMPELLED to murder and cannibalize, but legosi will never be TARGETED to be murdered and cannibalized. pina's casual disregard and DISRESPECT of the real danger legosi presents to him (that legosi NEVER allows himself to forget) is a defense mechanism in the same way haru's sexuality is for her. pina has absorbed and internalized exactly where he stands in this world, and through taunting the carnivores around him, he feels feels empowered in the same way haru's sexuality empowers her. pina is hedonistic because he is living every day as if it were his last, squeaking out whatever pleasure the world has to offer carelessly, because if people love him, he has power over them.
And if he taunts a carnivore and lives to tell the tale, then in that moment, he had power over them. This power struggle is the CORE of beastars, where humanity and instinct collide and give us the messy, deeply fucked up world this story takes place in. Pina is a character driven to recklessness and hedonism by his own disenfranchisement in a world where cannibalistic murders are commonplace and yet life goes on. It must go on, and this is how pina goes on.

or, captain laserhawk REALLY shot jade in the face and im still upset about it because oh my GOD they really made her be thrown into a role that is not HER and in death she's still a Figure.
yknow, i personally don't have a problem with sarah x jade, but over the past few months occasionally i'd think about it. yeah, it's funny to call sarah gay as hell for putting jade in a femme fatale outfit, but. should that truly be our basis for the ship? or should we think a bit deeper on why exactly sarah would put the sole woman in her lil tool set into such a position? i wonder why it wouldn't hurt to think about why jade would be forced into a role where one has to be sexual.
sarah is an extent of eden and eden is society and society will occasionally harp an odd sort of something masquerading as feminism to you that being sexual gives you power! but really it only serves to loop back into being for the man's enjoyment.
now i have to say that being sexual can be empowering! it really is! we just also have to acknowledge that in the eyes of society, sex is an exchange where it serves the man more than it does the woman. it still feels good to be sexual though, and being sexual can be used right for what you want.
but when it comes to jade, jade is forced to fall into this femme fatale role, this role that demands one to be a maneater, when she usually sticks to a more impersonal way of work. in this role, she dresses in clothes that she's not comfortable with wearing, when told to change from her usual outfit she is visibly uncomfortable, and overall it doesn't fit her.
she is not a sexual person. she does not typically utilise sexuality as a tool in her arsenal, she doesn't even seem to really touch it (or she's just insanely bad at flirting). either way, she's not used to being in this position because she does not choose to be in this position often.
anyways, why does sarah think to put the woman in a position where she would have to step out of her comfort zone? because obviously, she uses things and positions as tools, and sexuality is a tool.
now i want yall to bear with me as i compare sarah to another woman in media; makima. no im not calling sarah some god awful dommy mommy or some shit, i'm bringing in makima to highlight how sexuality is used. she uses her sexuality as a woman to entice this young boy into doing things for her, ranging from a kiss to assaulting him and telling him that she'll give him more as a reward. while not inherently sexual, she offers up a date with her to encourage the devil hybrids under her control. she even offers up a kiss at one point to encourage competition. makima, someone raised by the government and given tools that she uses to manipulate others, has sexuality in her arsenal. it is not a stretch to say that sarah, someone who has intimate understanding of the government, the ladder she climbs, has seen others use sexuality as a tool. hell, it might even be encouraged to use it as a tool. i'm absolutely not saying that sarah fucked her way to the top, im saying that sarah is aware that sexuality is a tool that one can use.
now we all know how sarah got to the top, which can be reasonably assumed to be through military rank and impersonal ways. ways that don't require one to lower your guard and take you in before they strike, like a femme fatale way would. sarah most likely got through to the top by using people and throwing just enough weight around. so why does she not allow jade to flourish in a way that honestly would benefit the team way better yeah no its because she sees her as a fucking tool in order to recognise jade's real talents she must first let go of the notion that she is a simple tool and accept that as a human she has legitimate strengths in unique areas and not just one where you can remind them who is in charge and how you are a tool and FUCK EDEN AND THEIR FUCKING TOOL MINDSET FUCKING CAPITALIST MINDSET IN A SO CALLED POST CAPITALISTIC SOCIETY!!!!!

tbh i think madara's masochism, as funny as it is, is also quite .. meaningful? like i think it might say smth abt him feeling uncomfortable with his own power. in the sense of he doesnt actually want to be the one with the most power bc it means he will have to carry responsibility for everyone. we know that he wasnt feeling comfortable being clan-leader and he didnt feel like he's up to the task of becoming hokage either. when hashirama suggests he become hokage and he will immortalize him by carving his face into the hills he seems almost .. embarrassed at the notion yknow. which might just be abt the part with the face on the hill but he also immediately questions his ability for this task and mentions how he failed to protect his brethren as clan-leader prior to this. i think the god savior responsibility is easier/more convenient to take for him bc he doesnt have to trust or cooperate with anyone in order to fill it. i know he cooperates with obito on his way there but only bc obito becomes what he thinks is an extension of his own self/his will and the final position isnt meant to be shared, its supposed to be his task .. alone. and so thats why he's drawn to this and like .. feels more up to the task of doing it that way as opposed to what he tried doing before (as a clan-leader and potentially later as hokage). however. i Still feel like madara is driven towards this by some feelings of duty. madara feels its his duty to become the world's savior bc he's so strong. only he can successfully do this bc he's so strong. i've talked abt this before but i think madara in the end comes to desire godhood bc he cant get anything else that will give him fulfillment or happiness. he cant get the connection and closeness from hashirama that he wants, their bond is never as intimate as he wants it to be. so he gives up on connection, pursues power instead and comes to believe that this is what will make him happy. its what he means here in this scene i think:
madara "interprets it differently" by NOT going the way of cooperation like the stone tablet apparently said but by doing the opposite. fusing all power (specifically hashirama's and his power) within himself and just doing it all on his own. reach his fulfillment and happiness all on his own. but i feel like deep down, maybe he is aware that this will not work. maybe as much as he desires to distance himself from his humanity, he knows or can feel that embracing his humanity will feel so much better than godhood. he tries to embrace his humanity thru battle.
but coming back to the point at the start, it might be that madara isnt just a battle freak and a bit of a pain enjoyer, maybe he also just wants someone to finally take all that power away from him. madara's power being taken away will mean two things: 1) a much greater sense of vulnerability towards the person who does it (which, to me, is inherently connected to being human bc u can only share a connection w another human if u allow some form of vulnerability) and 2). he's resolved of his duty. if he isnt the strongest anymore, he loses his capability of becoming the god savior, he loses his right to fill that position but he also is relieved of his responsibility to do so. he doesnt Have to do it anymore is what i mean. i think masochism .. it often revolves around wanting to give up control. and i think madara does want to give up control. in other words, madara is drawn to the god savior position bc it promises unlimited control to him. he doesnt have to depend on anyone who could betray him, all he needs is his power and neither does he have to trust that humanity will manage to remain peaceful by itself either bc he will just decide what everyone's lives (dreams) will be like from now on. the control-part is thus what madara aims to gain personally from this, its what makes this attractive to him. BUT. he still seeks out battle with hashirama during the war arc (yknow hashirama, who is stronger than him and who according to madara's own words would be capable of stopping him), he doesnt enjoy himself when he's fighting the 5 kage bc theyre inferior to him so we know there's not actually all that much joy to be gained here for him from the superiority of his own power. we do see him enjoy himself during his battle with gai tho who almost kills him (and would have, if madara didnt have extraordinary self-healing powers here) and he enjoys himself also with hashirama. only stronger opponents who can actually get to him and are capable of hurting him are enjoyable as a partner in fights for him.
so to conclude this, madara aims to achieve godhood and power bc he is fearful of getting betrayed and thus thinks it is safer to just do all the work on his own, he cant get the connection to other people he longs for but he isnt a god, he's a human. the only way to connect to other people he knows and feels safe with is violence and the only premise under which he will show vulnerability is if he's forced into it. so i think it is natural for him to seek out conflict with stronger opponents bc only then can he show himself human (or feel human) and only then can he feel some kind of connection to others. hashirama here has an obviously very special position bc he is BOTH stronger than him, has successfully taken him down several times prior to this, and he's also the only one there that madara has had a touch of connection with prior to this. a connection that madara still has a desire for. the power/control is only a substitute for what he actually wants bc he's a human. not a god. he wants to connect with others, he doesnt want to be all on his own. but giving up the control is scary. he's done that before in his first life and it didnt end well for him. madara will not give up his power voluntarily, he cant, its too scary! but he's looking for somebody else who will do that for him and thats why he tries goading hashirama into another battle during the war, not despite, but Because he is capable of taking him down. madara accepts his defeat after kaguya has been taken down ... he feels at peace as he enters the afterlife bc finally, he experiences a true and unhindered connection with the person he wants that connection with most and he's also relieved of his duty to solve the world's problems.

my off the cuff answer is that most people are not revolutionary leftists OR revolutionary feminists and therefore don't even think about those ideas, since current oppressive systems are the air they breathe. their concept of wish fulfillment only occurs within those systems, or ones that have a strong resemblance to existing systems (ie feudal european fantasy world where the protag is/becomes landed gentry.) sure, the character is still in the system, but she's at the top of the class system, and she has Special Qualities that render her somehow immune to patriarchal violence. that sort of thing is the only escapism a lot of people can imagine, since existing outside the system is, well, a revolutionary idea!
FURTHER ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT:
under patriarchy, there exist only a few models of womanhood that are okay for women to relate to and aspire towards. obviously, this is a complex sociological concept and those models are not uniform for every society, or even every person's perception of that society, but those models do have a tendency to shape what women fantasize about. and literally every one of those models has the common feature of being subservient to men in some way. this is, again, because of patriarchy lol.
patriarchy also has this effect of presenting heterosexual love, romance, and reproduction as the ultimate way for a woman to find fulfillment. there are other acceptable avenues of fulfillment, but all of them are supposedly inferior to the fulfillment of having a man who loves you and wishes to protect you. this essentially has the effect of making it so most, if not all, of popular fantasies targeted to women end up also treating heterosexual romance as the ultimate path to fulfillment!
you've identified that power fantasies written for men tend to be about gaining, yknow, power. they get skills and Do Cool Things and also often gain hot chicks as a secondary aspect of wish fulfillment. power fantasies for women are often an inversion of this: the primary wish fulfillment is that of a hot guy who loves them, with any extra powers or skills or Stuff the main character gets acting as a secondary component to that fantasy. this reflects real life gender expectations, where men are meant to be career holders first and husbands second, and vice versa for women. and a Lot of this ties into what I was talking about earlier with both acceptable modeling and patriarchial romance standards.
you see, i have a theory in relation to escapist main characters. in a lot of other genres, it's somewhat acceptable that the main character of a story is not someone you have to 100% identify with. they can do socially unacceptable things and the story can still be very enjoyable to a vast audience. but when it comes to a character who functions more or less as an audience self-insert, the standards change entirely. an audience isn't usually quite as comfortable placing themself fully in the shoes of someone who defies social acceptability too much, just because those are actions that make them feel uncomfortable in real life. they don't like having fantasies that feel wrong by the standards of societal structures.* and so, a LOT of the time, the main character must fit acceptable models of womanhood in order for the fantasy to sell.
(*generally speaking. see above on societal stuff not being uniform. i have a lot to say about how an Actually Evil villainess functions as a fantasy but for now I'm just gonna talk about patriarchy in shoujo fantasies lol)
and what are these acceptable models of womanhood? like i said, they're highly tied to the female character being desired and protected by men. this familiarity is comforting to readers. it's unchallenging. it's even desirable.
and this is what I keep identifying in escapist fiction: the need for comfort/familiarity above all else, even if that comfort is found in opppressive power structures. a key component of the fantasy is the power structure seemingly without the oppression that makes those real-life systems unbearable. sure, the protag is essentially the property of the man who loves her, but maybe he lets her do what she wants, or he won't hurt her in ways she doesn't like in the course of possessing her. it makes gendered structures that are implicitly violent in real life explicitly nonviolent (or not violent to a point where it cannot be tolerated by the protagonist) inside the fantasy. it is, in essence, softening patriarchy to a point where it can be viewed as safe. and to a reader of these fantasies, that feels safer than dealing with the uncertain territory of someone who tries to escape those structures!

and of course neutered Tactics is a no-no. i'm gonna be huffy about that forever but c'est la vie, it's what the franchise has settled on... but as a Certified P3 Tactics Gamer i'm basically obligated to be a lil miffed about this Post-Tactics World we live in. and like cmon man you introduced baton pass but my AI teammates can't even see it...even though the "recommended move" scan logic CAN....!!!
^^^ but this one is ALSO at its core a complaint that new players won't have comparison context for (because the Tactics in P3R is not the Tactics we once had). and . also many newbies will never even rub up against it if they prefer Direct Command to begin with (which lots of people do) so like. who cares . it doesn't ruin the game for me i just dearly miss the Epic Highs And Lows Of P3 Tactics HAHBDS

Palworld could have been a fun narrative adventure game that parodied a lot of the aspects of Pokemon with a cynical edge to it. Yknow like the trailers seemed to hint at?
Sadly Palworld is an almost entirely Soulless mess of the most bland and time consuming mechanics from the last generation paired with stolen monster designs made to make people snicker at the "Woah Nintendo's not gonna like this lol xD" of it all.
There are "comedic" elements that may hint at parody rather than just blatant theft but when you're actually playing Palworld these elements are so secondary to the actual grinding in the game that they barely resonate as jokes.
On top of all that as well, it's really badly made. It's jank as shit and not in a fun way. NPCs barely interact with the world around them, core mechanics sometimes don't work and the bosses are so spongey, in order to waste even more of your time, that they barely feel worth it.
In an ironic twist Palworld actually is kind of a cynical parody. Unfortunately its chosen subjects is video games as a whole. The game is not designed to be a fun, enjoyable or engaging experience. It's designed primarily for Streamers to play it and for rubes to play it as long as possible to grind for the content that was promised in the trailers. It's a piece of software designed to waste your fucking time.

Honestly the best way to do it is just watch it! Despite its length (currently 18 seasons with the last season on its way) it probably won't take you long to finish. The episodes themselves aren't really that long and you can finish a whole season in about an hour or two

Some things to note if you really wanna commit your life to rvb
The r slur is used a handful of times in the early seasons, surprisingly not as often as you might think for a series made by old gamers. They eventually stop using it though. Keep in mind this show started in 2003 which is older then quite a lot of people on this site so I think they can get a little slack for the early episodes having some out of touch humor (doesn't make it right of course but yknow, what can you do)
Series starts kind of slow but starts ramping up pretty quick, if you feel a bit bored to start don't give up right away! I recommend getting through seasons 1-2 first which should only take like 2 hours
The entirety of season 14 is a half-canon anthology series. I recommend not skipping it though, it's very enjoyable
There's a bunch of mini series that take place in random places in the timeline on the playlist too, DW about watching them in order they aren't even required but they're fun!
Everything after season 13 might not be canon actually we aren't 100% sure on that but it's also like... Kind of canon too.... We'll cross that bridge when we get to it
The series does have a fall out later on because of changing writers but it never really gets BAD just.. Not as good
Except season 16. Fuck season 16. All my homies hate season 16. And you gotta watch it for context in season 17 I'm so sorry it's so bad it's sooo bad
EDIT: I changed my mind skip 16-18 entirely they're gonna be non canon anyway and I swear to you there is literally no entertainment value in any of them don't fucking watch them they're so horribly bad <-is watching them
Now a lot of this stuff might sound discouraging but if anyone is actually willing to give this series a try I REALLY do recommend it! It's probably one of the best examples of adult comedy. Adult comedy shows (especially animation) sometimes fall into the trap of needing to be excessively violent and sexual and mean in order to be mature but that inadvertently makes the series feel very immature. Red vs Blue DOES make sex jokes and it is violent sometimes but it's never in an overbearing and childish way (except season 16 that's literally all that season is I'm so sorry) it executes its humor great, it relies a lot on just how insane the MCs are in a relatively normal world and it's so entertaining whenever we leave the bubble of the main cast and realize "oh these guys are just fucked up"
It has great characters and a story that really hooks you when you don't expect it to. If you're still willing to try it PLEASE do! It's an icon of pop culture for a reason!

there’s been a recent rise in xeno inkfish art (the inkling/octoling art that often gives them tails, patterns, etc if you’re unfamiliar with the term) but i think with that rise there has been a growing number of people confused by what’s being presented to them.
the general “goal” of xeno designs is to make inkfish look less humanoid, but i think a lot of people (including me), they assume that this goal has been set in order to make the cephalopod features of inkfish more prominent and distinctive, to give them features found on irl octopuses of squids. from what i’ve seen, while this may be the reason behind some design choices, many xeno artists don’t necessarily prioritize cephalopod features over features found in other mammals and what generally looks cool. which is absolutely fine! like we are all having fun here.
…unfortunately this misreading of things can lead to a lot of frustration and disappointment among those who really like the idea of inkfish designs that resemble living cephalopods without adding any features from other types of animals (at least without thought out reason). speaking from experience here. this is also a valid want, and unlike with “mainstream” xeno designs (mainstream in quotes this is all still very niche), there’s no real community formed around this sort of design and speculative biology.
basically i think it’d be cool if there were another tag (no idea what to call it) for this other approach to inkfish designs that acknowledges the difference in goals and exists not to one up the xeno community in “accuracy,” but to explore different ideas in a space that values different things.
hoping i’m not just speaking into the void with this, i’m pretty sure there are others out there that have similar ideas about what they want a less humanoid inkfish to be. this isn’t particularly conclusive on purpose, i again have no idea what the tag should be called and i don’t have too much of a following on here so. honestly not super confident in my chances of starting anything. please leave a reply/tags/whatever if you have any thoughts, ideas, etc. going to put this in the xeno tags for visibility + because well i talk about them a lot, @ xeno artists and enjoyers this is not supposed to be anything against you or implying xeno designs have no thought behind them. it’s just different, yknow?
