im very excited for s2 of shadow and bone because i want to see the crows and also i'm dreading it because if i have to see another "book kaz would NEVER get his ass beat like that" post im going to stapling chapters to foreheads.
our FIRST pov chapter from kaz brekker begins with him saying "If you couldn't walk by yourself through Ketterdam after dark, then you might as well hang a sign that read "soft" around your neck and lie down for a beating." followed, not THREE PAGES LATER, by him, in fact, getting drugged in an alley and beat! the whole point of kaz, the reason why he's interesting, is because so much of his reputation and his strength is built on lies. he lets people believe that he's worse than he is, that he has no heart, that he feels nothing, because that's the only way he wins. the truth of it, the actual truth of the thing is that kaz is only as invulnerable as his mental state: the reason he gets beat in the books in his first pov chapter is becuase he's distracted by the trauma of his brother coming back as a ghost. the reason he gets beat in the show is becuase he's distracted by the trauma of pekka rollins.
what makes kaz compelling is that there is always this tension between the reputation and revenge he has fought so hard for and how close he is, at all times, to losing it. if the right person finds out about his vulnerabilities and figures out how to use them, then it's over for him and he knows that. you need to be able to represent that tension in kaz or he's literally not interesting!! people without vulnerabilities, who do not ever fail, who do not ever fall down, are not interesting!!!
the show needs to be able to represent that tension and that arc in kaz, and one of the ways it (and the book!) had introduced that to us is by first introducing the idea that here is this character who is fearsome, who is impervious, who is brutal and terrifying, and then, once you know all of that, saying, and here's what scares him. here's what you need to understand could take him down, here's why you need to worry about him, root for him, care about him!! it's like some people are so obsessed with this narrow image of kaz that they are willing to sacrifice good story telling to keep it. we need to see kaz lose battles or we aren't going to care when he wins wars!!!
there's a lot you could say about the changes they've chosen to make for the show, and some of them i agree with, but this "kaz would NEVER lose a fight, ever" motif just frustrates me so bad because it's just like. categorically false. it's in chapter 3. page 43 of the book. the first chapter we have to introduce us to kaz brekker. not only would he absolutely get his ass beat like that, it is a fundamental part of him as a character !

I remember you saying you liked young justice so I wanted to know who's your favourite character or the one you think is most like you? I've been attached by the hip to this show since I was 13 so I'm a little... not normal about it lol.
also opinions on s3?
YES oh my god it was like formative media for me genuinely and i still love yj dearly i was rewatching it like last month actually along with yaboyroshi's reactions to it 😅 we are both a little not normal about this show dw 🤝🏼 im putting the rest of this under a cut because i start Yapping
my fave characters were dick, artemis, jaime, bart, and zatanna! dick i was Obsessed with from the moment i laid eyes on him in hindsight for gender reasons, probably but artemis always meant a huge deal to me as a kid because she was like the only vietnamese character (and with a skintone like mine!) that i'd ever seen on a screen. i loved everything about jaime's character and personality and arc and i had a really soft spot for bart because characters who are very outwardly upbeat and fun but are going through a lot of shit and hiding it are my favourites ever usually 😅. i also liked rlly them as a duo. zatanna's sort of cool-girl sass was always really fun to see and i think especially in s4 where her sort of less-rigid morality had more room to shine, really made me appreciate her character more. OH also when they introduced cassandra wu-san/orphan in s3 i like literally cheered out loud 😭 shes one of my fave characters from dc comics in general, so i was already biased towards her and i really liked her depiction and the room they made for her arc
i'm actually not sure which character is the most like me... i think because i watched it so young a lot of the characters kind of made their way into my personality in one way or another. i think irl im most like dick but it could be wishful thinking 😅 i'm not as cool as he is for sure
season three.... i'm kind of on the fence about it? i will say though i think it was a little rough with the dialogue especially, and i definitely didn't bond as well with the outsiders as i did with the original team and then the s2 cast. violet was the most likeable of the group by far but i think i was really put off by the fact that they kept killing them 💀 like i get that you guys can do this now with the higher rating but there are better ways to show off your newfound creative freedom than repeatedly brutally killing them. it was offset with the majority of the other characters suffering from basically no visible injuries too- if they'd been hit with bruises or scrapes or broken bones or ANYTHING and reduced the harm dealt to vi then i would've been less urgh by it.
i also wish they'd introduced victor a bit earlier into the season instead of spending sooo much time with brion because cyborg's story felt a little tacked on at the end, and um i was annoyed by brion from the jump 😭😭 tried so hard to sympathise with him because to be fair he went through a Lot but he just kept being such an aggressive ass to like everyone. which i guess was the point.. didn't make it any more fun to watch though.
i do like that they kept with the huge mass of entangled threads of the plot that were to me the hallmarks of the earlier seasons, picking apart scenes to try and work out how things interconnect was always my favourite part. i think the cast of the show at this point for what they were trying to do and focus on may have exceeded the show's bounds though- it was still a compelling narrative but i imagine for a casual watcher who isnt as meticulously invested in who is who and can recognise adaptations of arcs from the comics it can get very confusing or frustrating. its hard because i Love the og cast too but i think with s3 they couldn't decide on letting them go or letting their new characters shine and it ended up muddying the waters a bit, with the outsiders suffering the most from it due to no nostalgia or prior narrative heft to keep them from looking secondary to the original members of the team.
with s4 they chose to throw their lot behind the old team, which i appreciated and it neatened the rough edges of the show more, but i do still miss the s2 cast quite badly so i actually kind of wish they'd kept expanding the cast but just narrowed focus onto the new characters for every season. the title of the show is young justice, so i personally would've liked to keep seeing a focus on the newer and rising heroes of each successive generation as opposed to returning again and again to the originals
sorry that this is such a wall of text 😅 but i think this is one of the shows that i could genuinely just like sit and talk about for ages and ages... even the characters i dont like at all have a fair amount of gravity and heft to them that i love. wally is still alive btw i will never stop believing 😤 get that man out of the speed force!

i have so many fucking thoughts about the miraculous movie.
the motivations and characterization was just seriously rushed. they didn’t show me jack shit, they just needed characters to accomplish certain goals and told us they were doing it and that it made sense, but there was no heart or real motivation.
the songs were generic and had little to no personality, they sound like they were written to be relatable and easily streamable rather than to be character portrayals.
it really feels like they were afraid to really get into miraculous lore, everything was so watered down. it made no sense for them to have a lovesquare rather than ladynoir because adrien and marinette barely interacted.
many of you im sure filled in the gaps by things you know from the series, but that’s not how this movie should function. it’s clearly an au and needs to be standalone. if you hadn’t seen the show, would you really think an adrienette ending made more sense than ladynoir based on how it was set up? on that, were ANY ships set up particularly well? marinette goes from truly being annoyed but chat noir but less than 2 minutes ago was terrified and didn’t want to be ladybug at all but now is sassy to him? not only that but she really wasn’t all that competent and clearly disliked chat, why was he so obsessed with her competence and insistent on being with her? it wasn’t explained well and i felt like the writers just expected me to remember the origins episode instead of what i’d just watched here.
on that note… why does everyone want gabriel to be redeemed so badly? why do you feel it’s so appropriate for him to be redeemed here? not all villains need redeemed. this seems to be the major difference between zag and astruc; chloe and hawkmoth are both redeemed /watered down to be likable in this movie. astruc holds his ground and says some people can be redeemed but not everyone will. like real life. because some people are assholes.
don’t get me wrong, i don’t love lila or chloe’s exaggerated evilness. but 1) it’s a fucking superhero drama, without assholes we run out of secondary conflict inherent to the genre 2) hawkmoths exaggerated evilness is what gives him SPICE, taking it away from him here just leaves him so goddamn bland. oh the terrorist wants to be redeemed bc he was sad about his wife despite saying he had nothing to lose even in the movie with a fucking child? nah. no way. fuck that.
chat noir was fucking weird about his crush. 0/10 from me.
i did like marinettes clumsiness and her general disaster aura and how it has a real effect on whether people like her or want to be around her — the show grew out of this by s2, similar to the montage here, but it’s more prominent here. i like this clumsiness and social anxiety portrayal slightly more. but s1 will always have a bit of my heart for disasternette
very little got explained well; i felt like i was relying on the show for lore to fill in very basic gaps which isn’t good for a standalone movie. the lore in general wasn’t well explained.
the whole time i sort of just wished i was watching this in the show tbh. another what-if situation. i’d love for the alt versions to meet and exchange lives for a day to point out the differences.
no sentimonster adrien here. where is the lore. :(
other ppl said this better but adriens story and motivations are nonexistent or very different to the show to the point of unrecognizability. show adrien wanted friends, movie adrien shuts them out. it’s not necessarily the worst change but it does feel odd.
fart jokes. ://///
nino and alya were cute separately as friends to the lead characters, but the romance subplot between them felt super forced and rushed compared to their real chemistry in the show.
anyways.
the show >>>>>>>>>> the movie
it’s not even a question for me.
also you guys hate on astruc so much but zag seems to be the one watering down characters and making them generic and marketable. astruc has the heart of the series and keeps the characters feeling authentic. he lets them grow in truly unique ways and gives them real goddamn conflict unlike the garbage zag led projects lead to.

Hello! I hope your week is fine. I'd like to ask, in your reblog of Wukong's Mess, you mention that Macaque is being hypocritical, especially during the mountain prison fight. Can you elaborate on that? I'd also like to know your opinion on Sun Wukong, and why his side of the story has been silent and unspoken for so long. Eat you fruits and sleep early!
Side note: do you think, in Shadowplay, the story that Macaque tells us, is in actuality similar to what happened with MK and SWK when the latter witnessed LBD's return, a vision of MK being burned, which spurred him on mission to stop her while keeping MK in the dark about the reason for his "trip" in s2 beginning?
hi hi!!!! i'm doing good!!! hope ur doing well too :333 thanks for ur question!!
this got longer then i thought it would. also wanna write up a short disclaimer that no, i don't hate macaque. i like him alot, he's one of my favorite characters, but he's also a really bad person LOL and im just writing about the fact he is. i like that he's a flamboyant asshole, that kind of character is fun to me.
macaque has shown a lot of hypocritical moments during the show, some of the more memorable ones being in season 4, though he's done this before.
s4ep10 when macaque gives his (questionable) advice to MK and talks about how LBD and azure have been trying to get in his head and a bit about how MK's grown paranoid about that. totally not gonna mention that macaque was the one who originally turned MK into a more dependent and paranoid guy. nope. let's not talk about that at all. he's such a freak goblin
macaque insists that wukong left him behind or abandoned him during shadowplay and in season 3, but in season 4 we learn that macaque was the one to leave wukong under the mountain when wukong needed him most.
during their argument under the mountain, wukong says "...because you always rush to my rescue!" while he's upset. mean thing to say, but it's built in some truth if macaque's actions from the show are anything to go by. at every major conflict he's apart of, he flees to save his own skin. we love a cowardly weido! #slay. macaque counters this with "no, that's you! you're the one that's always running off, looking for more sources of power, sources of immortality!" which also has some truth to it, but the difference is wukong hasn't been fleeing any battles to leave macaque, he's been training and climbing the ranks in heaven to grow stronger to protect macaque and the mountain.
when macaque says "not the great sage, he's got to drag everyone else into his mess!" he's retroactively trying to take the blame of the attack on heaven off himself and the brotherhood and place it completely on wukong. macaque's acting as if he was unwilling and forced into the attack when he could have said no at any time. he's acting as if wukong forced everyone to help him when in reality to plan was mostly azure's, wukong was just their strongest fighter and the one who ultimately led the charge. macaque has a habit of doing this though, removing himself from a problem while pointing the blame at wukong. put a pin in that
wukong even says back to macaque that "you're not in this mess! you're still free!" which is. completely true. macaque's fine, wukong's the one paying for the entire brotherhood, including macaque's, involvement in the attack. and macaques out here yelling at wukong for it as if he isn't gonna be here for what he thinks to be eternity. macaque's fine, is what im trying to say here. macaque's not payin' for jack shit. wukong even says right after that that all of his training and "running off" was him working to protect the mountain and macaque. he says "everything i did, i did it for us!" and then macaque shuts him down and calls him selfish again, even though its pretty clear (with knowledge from jttw AND lmk) that what wukong's saying is true. macaque even calls him an "obsessive demon" which is so funny, thats like. stop yelling at the kettle, pot. macaque's entire identity is based around wukong, ur such a little hypocrite. if oneo f them had to be the obsessive demon, it would be macaque.
macaque then goes on to say that "i told you going against the jade emperor was a bad idea, but no, wukong doesn't listen to anyone! he just does whatever he wants!" which this whole statement is just so weak on his end. macaque warns wukong once, and thats when azure first brings up the idea of going against the jade emperor. he says something along the lines of "idk about this wukong, going against the jade emperor could have some consequences". wukong quickly reassures him and macaque smiles and is like "okay wukong, whatever you say". he says that very fondly. macaque's "warning" to wukong isn't much of a warning, it was a small thought that he quickly drops because wukong says it's going to be okay. macaque and wukong were extremely close, they should know the other's personality. macaque would have known that just a small, off-hand comment wouldn't even be considered a warning to someone as headstrong as wukong.
we can headcanon and imagine all we want that maybe macaque and wukong talked more about it, maybe they even argued about it, but none of that speculation means anything because canon only ever shows us macaque casually mentioning potential consequences that both macaque and wukong ignore. obviously to the characters, including macaque, the consequences weren't really that important if they never brought it up again. macaque is Once Again forcing more blame on wukong as if he didn't have an equal part in the attack or the planning leading up to it.
Tumblr media
i mean, look at wukong's face here in response to macaque saying that! that looks like the shocked face somebody makes when they hear someone say they did/said something they know they didn't. that, along with the "obsessive demon" insult has wukong making a "what the actual fuck?!" kind of face. the one where you're shocked the other person even has the audacity to practically lie right to your face, yknow?
"you put yourself here, not me" macaque says, then he destroys the peach and leaves it on the ground in front of wukong, basically as an act of severing ties. macaque has, in his mind, been innocent the whole time and has no reason to try and stick around and help wukong because, he thinks, "well it's not my fault any of this happened". macaque is constantly playing the blame game, i think it's his favorite
NOW! onto this:
I'd also like to know your opinion on Sun Wukong, and why his side of the story has been silent and unspoken for so long. Eat you fruits and sleep early!
first of all, love eating fruits! apples are very good. secondly, i uh. sleep early. yeah. oops..................... (i went to bed at 2:30 am last night).......... but we're workin on it!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
I have a lot of things I could say about Wukong. a lot of things that i won't for the sake of brevity but in general, Sun Wukong reads as someone who's tired and wanting desperately to move on, while also feeling an innate responsibility to keep helping the world and defending people from large threats. that's why he takes on MK as a successor, because he wants a way to almost "pass on" into obscurity so MK can be the next hero. MK's young, excited, and in his prime while wukong is old, tired, and bogged down with all of his past mistakes that no one ever lets him forget. he's surprisingly really realistic and well rounded compared to the rest of the, ill be real, close to flat cast, which is what drew me to his character. he doesn't feel as tropey as the rest of the cast, he feels like you could assign him a trope but it won't ever perfectly describe him, which is really cool. he perfectly embodies his original character purpose, to represent the power of the mind, as he's constantly changing and growing and learning from mistakes. that's what makes him such a realistic character! he's built to be extremely human even if he's an overpowered stone monkey.
wukong isn't the type of guy to really open up about what he's thinking and spill his insecurities. during the journey, a lot of times wukong would point out a demon threat or would come up with ways to stop threats against tripitaka who, 9/10 times didn't believe him or punished him for his ideas. wukong's basically internalized the idea that he needs to play his cards really close to his chest, which includes his plans for fighting back against something or his own feelings. hell, wukong's only really started opening up to MK in season 4, and he barely does! the only time he ever truly opens up is in the s4 special where he's basically given up. and even then he's filtering himself and not explaining his side of things, just his emotions. its a start tho
that's basically why wukong's taking so long to explain his side of the story on anything, its difficult to have him do so and have it be in character because his major traits are about being closed off emotionally. unfortunately because hes taking so long to open up, the fandom seems to be believing macaque and the villains more and more, painting this really nasty view of wukong which is. so odd to me.
i also have some gripes with the writers for not using the only tool that could almost force wukong to open up or show his side of the story to do that. they show a couple snippets of wukong's past, but it's all pre journey stuff and it all includes macaque. we never learn his side of the story about killing the camel ridge trio or his fight with macaque that led to macaque's death. we don't even hear his own inner monologue or thoughts! and now the scroll is effectively out of play, so we arent even gonna get to see that stuff. which sucks
Side note: do you think, in Shadowplay, the story that Macaque tells us, is in actuality similar to what happened with MK and SWK when the latter witnessed LBD's return, a vision of MK being burned, which spurred him on mission to stop her while keeping MK in the dark about the reason for his "trip" in s2 beginning?
okay, for this one it's complicated. so, yes and no.
macaque only does the shadow play to torture MK and make him feel even more insecure about wukong. he says it himself at the end of the episode, it's why he gives up on the fight so quickly, he just wanted to torture MK, mostly for fun. (is this how you get your sick kicks?!)
MK has a habit of mimicking and internalizing everyone else's words and personalities. the most obvious example is how at the end of season 1, in s1e9 his entire personality changes when macaque trains him, and macaque plants the seeds of insecurity in MK's mind about wukong "abandoning" him. it gets even worse in shadowplay in s2, because thats when MK really start's thinking wukong's abandoned him and he's really putting himself in macaque's headspace. bro stop!!!!!!!! he's evil!!!! stop!!!!! he's a liar!!!!! get out of there mk!!!
so anyway, macaque's whole point is that wukong "abandoned" him to go be a hotshot in heaven and then to go on the journey and make new and cooler friends, and now MK's worried that wukong just did that again but to him. macaque knows wukong's not around, too, which makes this "lesson" easier to tell MK since wukong's not there to defend himself or to explain the truth to MK. macaque's goal though with the shadow play is to insult MK by comparing him to wukong. he's trying to fuck with MK and make him feel shittier, that's why he kidnaps MK's friends, because he wants to be like "wow you didn't even notice they were gone! ur such a bad person lol! just like wukong the hero!" when in reality MK's put himself in macaque's role as the warrior and is just thinking all of his friends abandoned him. he knew they weren't around but he assumed they just didn't want to be with him, not that they were actually captured. it's a whole mess that just makes MK feel even worse by the end of it, but it's still an interesting episode that says a lot about the characters.
so, partially, yes, the shadowplay is similar to wukong leaving mk during season 2 when you look at it through MK's point of view. but objectively? it's not even close.
in reality, we the audience know that wukong isn't just going on vacation, he's actively looking for ways to stop the lady bone demon and doing research. he's finding ancient temples and scouring through their information, he's interrogating anyone who might have a clue, he's very active this season, we just only get clips of what he's doing while we focus on MK. we see multiple instances of him searching for answers, we know he's trying to stop LBD. he isn't really fucking off and doing nothing (but for some reason the fandom thinks he did because pigsy says that??? so).
wukong leaves MK because he's trying to protect him. he trusts MK's ability enough to deal with the occasional monster of the week at megaopolis, but he doesn't think MK's ready for a bigger threat like LBD. he's still communicating with MK to give him advice, but he knows MK knows the basics and can handle himself well, he just needs the occasional push. he's not intentionally abandoning him, he's keeping him out of harms way because he believes MK isn't ready for a world ending threat.
so basically: we know that macaque is trauma dumping and twisting the context of the story to make him seem like some sort of victim that was left behind, that MK is internalizing the story to mean that wukong is abandoning him, and that wukong isn't doing any of that and is trying to protect him. it's a big narrative mess but it's a good one! we the audience know MK's going down a bad path for his mental health and we know that wukong isn't doing any of that because we can see it through wukong's words and actions that he cares about MK and is trying to help him while keeping him safe. unfortunately, wukong's a little too late coming back to the city and LBD starts her plan before wukong can stop her.
sorry this got so long! i think about them a lot

oh shit i forgot here's another one, this time its an old neal caffrey analysis rant (this one fueled by insomnia, and written much earlier into my first watch of white collar - i think early season 3??):
im gonna be weird about white collar but the thing is so many people are weird about white collar in the wrong direction
like woobifying neal to hell and back or inventing whole new personalities for el or . i don’t even know how to describe what they do to peter
like the thing about neal is he Is a magpie he’s just a surprisingly loyal one, he flits from shiny thing to person to ideal, sure, but certain classes of ppl can fully hold his attention
peter holds his attention bc he is good as in skilled (it’s borderline canon that no one else can catch him, or even really come close), and extremely principled w a cunning streak which neal basically approaches as like. a puzzle box, bc like none of their principles line up so he’s curious how the apparent closed system rube goldberg machine of his morals work LOL
then it becomes a dedication through loyalty, in that peter sticks his neck out multiple times due to faith in neal, and neal is EXTREMELY weak to loyalty/consistency (gestures at the mess of his childhood)
and due to generally low self image (morals wise, he kind of thinks he sucks? like he’s competent and cool and charming and everything, but he also tends to consider himself a nuisance, w how he’s disruptive to ‘normal’ / ‘good’ people) that dedication can become disproportionate
we see through kate (and later, adler) that the easiest way to con neal/get him acting against his own self interest IS to cultivate that loyalty
there’s an easy archetype to it, even, in that u present him with a competent, smart individual (bonus points if they’re a conventionally attractive woman), but have her off limits in some way (uninterested, taken, stand off ish, whatever), activate his thief urge to ‘take’ what he wants, then when they are friends/partners whatever, his inadvertent guilt over like. corrupting/endangering this person/tricking them about who he ‘really’ is will loop around into VERY strong loyalty, and a commitment to being whatever they want him to be x2, bc he Cannot handle being left behind LMAO
peter simultaneously feeds into + challenges this framework, bc he clearly has the least biased opinion about who neal is, even though he’s still wrong about a lot of things. and beyond that, he REALLY likes neal, thinks he’s interesting and funny, but at the start of the show can’t deal with even 0.01% of his chaotic neutral methods
WHICH IN TURN!! actually breaks through some of Neal’s shit bc:
peter picked him out of prison before neal had changed at all
he essentially sees his role, from as early as ep 1, as tactically breaking the law where peter can’t/won’t, in ways that help them close the case faster
after peter (more or less) gives a thumbs up the first time he does this, neals puzzle box brain goes ‘oh?? morally grey bestie??? CRIME BESTIE????’ and now he’s trying to ‘solve’ peter’s moral code
this is actually almost in complete opposition to elizabeth, who is compete open and clear about her affection and friendship w him basically since they meet, and apparently has no prerequisites for it. which, again, pointing to the low self esteem, triggers the ‘oh god what have i done to deserve this i haven’t even CONNED her yet’ so he’s low key more invested in + comitted to elizabeth in a specific. 'i want to be on good terms w this person' targeted way than he initially was w peter (since their mutual obsession manifests so fucking frequently as 'what, you're gonna hit me? you're gonna hit me with that big bat? better make it hurt. better kill me in one shot!' style antagonism)
HENCE the constant check ins w their relationship, reminding peter about anniversaries and dinner times etc, though that’s also due to a general fascination he has w stability + permanence
we learn in s2 he was seriously considering proposing to kate, and that he genuinely wanted to take the ‘true love’ way out of the conman life, even though he wasn’t quite sure whether it would stick, hence we see a lot in s2 his fascination w peter + els marriage, along with june (crime aunty <3)‘s relationship w her passed husband
a lot of his dedication to peter circa s2 is, by my reckoning, explicitly because peter is so determined to stick with Neal, and doesn’t give up on him/their deal even when it would be entirely reasonable (neal admits to crimes, gets put back in prison, constantly breaks rules and goes looking for kate) which is like. neal HATES being trapped, but he also REALLY values consistency + competency
hence the complexes, y'know?

call me crazy but i REALLY enjoyed the ending of good omens s2! (spoilers below the cut)
OKAY crowley points this out when he tells gabriel to jump out the window, but aziraphale didnt actually witness heaven's direct cruelty to him, didnt experience first hand how willing they were to throw him away and kill him the second he disagreed with them. crowley, however, did. we dont know if they ever told each other exactly what happened, or if crowley ever told zira that gabriel had said "just shut your stupid mouth and die already." it clearly lasted with crowley, he remembers the exact words.
the choice neil made for aziraphale to not yet fully understand that "good guys" and "bad guys" arent accurate depictions of heaven and hell makes sense when you realize that he's never received the reality of being punished by them. crowley isn't naive though, he's been through this more than once, has witnessed the cult like mentality of heaven and hell and tried to help aziraphale escape. he's always tried to help zira come to his own conclusions, and usually, he at least comes to an understanding (poor people DO have less opportunities, and you're helping science!). you can feel his desperation when hes asking his angel to leave with him, both in season 1 and season 2. but that resignation in his eyes when he realizes that zira is still stuck in the cult of heaven, still cant really see in shades of grey- he knows that nothing he says or does will change zira's mind; the only thing that will change his mind is seeing first hand the cruelty and lack of compassion from heaven towards aziraphale himself.
there were so many amazing moments where they showed the lack of knowledge from heaven. the rule that they're not to visit earth, not to know too much (or anything, it seems) about humans. because someone in heaven knows that access to knowledge makes you smarter, makes you curious, makes you ask questions. whether or not thats the decision of god, or of metatron remains to be seen. but one person being in charge, who's clearly clueless but pretends to know what god wants, is classic cult leader shit. people who follow along without question, who assume that their will is good- that's what the angels are. its hard to truly hate them when you realize that they're all under the same thumb. that scene when uriel asks the metatron if they've done something wrong was kind of heart breaking, they're just children playing a game they were never told all the rules to.
what makes crowley so fascinating as a character is that he's curious, he asks questions. he's not good, he's not bad, he's just... himself. honestly, he's more human than demon in his choices. what he said about following hell as far as he can, so he can stay on his own side is just perfect- and yeah, lonely. and i cant even imagine how lonely he feels now. im obsessed with how we're shown his attempts at changing aziraphale's mind - something about him being the one to encourage aziraphale to try human food, something about him inviting aziraphale to Edinburgh to show him how poverty forces you to make morally questionable choices, that not everything is black and white - idk. it's subtle, it's allowing him to come to the same conclusion on his own, it makes me want to shovel aquarium gravel into my mouth
aziraphale, when he's away from heaven's influence, is much more morally grey, he's more himself, he's happier. but as soon as his superiors are around, he loses all sense of self. he automatically assumed he was going to fall for lying to the other angels and not killing innocent children. he knows better than to ask questions, he KNOWS that what he's asked to do is sometimes wrong, but he has this cognitive dissonance he cant get past- heaven asks him to do things that are bad, but heaven isnt bad. heaven is always good, so what theyre asking must not be bad. but, killing children is pretty objectively bad. he cant kill children. but its god's will, so he has to, it must be good. but its not. and round and round it goes. he's never actually been punished by heaven firsthand, and i think once he sees close up that heaven's will isn't necessarily god's will, and that god's will is not always benevolent, he'll realize. he'll realize that you cant always change things from the inside, that there's a systematic issue that can only be solved by dismantling the institution. god i hope season 3 is dismantling heaven.
all in all i love this ending i am SUCH a sucker for escaping cult stories (nimona and she-ra, nd stevenson i love u). like your whole life you are so sure that you're doing the right thing, and then someone comes along and turns everything upside down and asks you questions, forces you to ask questions, and you can't help but defend where you came from, surely there has to be some mistake, if you could just talk to someone higher up you're sure you could clear this whole misunderstanding up, and then that higher up tell you point blank that they know what theyre doing, they know that innocent people are getting hurt. you witness their violence firsthand, and its intentional, its directed towards YOU. because you dared to ask if what we're doing is really the right thing. and that's when you finally understand.

hi! so i've recently finished the 100 very late i know and ahh! i've gotten to love bob and eliza as well after watching interviews of them im so happy theyre married they look so in love (i say this like i didnt spend the last 3 weeks of my life obsessing over them LMAO) and i was rly surprised to see that they kept denying hating the romantic bellarke agenda? especially in the earlier seasons, but it was SO obvious, to me at least, that they were the main ship of the show... i scoured the internet for reasons why but all i could get was that the fandom hates jroth and the fandom would like to bury jroth alive SDJHFDSHJ but yeah! still rly curious and ik you were actively in the fandom during the time so if you could just briefly explain i would be vvvvv grateful
Okay... I'm gonna try and give a bit of a run down of the history of beliza and bellarke and jroth and clexa and how that all influenced things. Keep in mind I wasn't in the fandom from the start so the beginning is second hand recounts.
Okay so from the start bellarke was obviously intended, they were canon in the books but clearly with the Finn thing and everything else they were going for a more slow burn kinda vibe which was good obviously. Now this is where the bellarke denial started, but it was more casual there. Like a playfull not trying to give away the slow burn or surprise (this is very typical for slow burn ships and that's why I love the Pates for how they are handling jiara). So all was well in the house.
At this point Bob and Eliza were really good friends so that wasn't a problem. At one point apparently Devon kinda let it slip that they were actually in a fwb kinda situation at some point during the early season. I never saw first hand proof of this but it was a known fact amongst the fandom and I find likely given where they ended up.
Now, I'm not 100% on the order of event here but the following happened over s2/s3. Two major things that changed the fate and reception of bellarke forever.
The first being clexa. Now, from a story telling pov clexa was never going to last and Lexa's fate was always sealed. But I'm not going to go too much into that whole thing. But obviously there was alot of hype around Lexa and that ship. Which Jason loved, that man is driven by ego and having thousands of people up his ass fuel him. So he shifted his focus to them, knowing full well he was going to kill Lexa. And then when the backlash hit he kept pandering to them - putting little Lexa mentions in to keep the viewer ship, to keep people talking about his show. And by result of this the bellarke denial came in strong and their romantic development or story like was put on hold.
Now meanwhile it seems beliza had a falling out, Bob started dating his long term gf Aryn and they would not attend cons together. Also time to double down on the bellarke denial. Only this time it was legit (not that bellarke wasn't happening or intended, but they didn't like it and didn't want it to happen) we got the infamous 'bellake shit' quote from Eliza, which she insisted she actually said 'ship', even tweeted it (has since then once happily married admitted that she said shit lol) And yeah while we were still getting the on screen hints it seemed no one was rooting for it personally.
Then. The tide turns. Bob and Aryn has broken up. And we hear an announcement. Bob and Eliza are going to a con together?? Wait. what? And this con. Let me tell you. Changed the world. They were best friends again. Now, I am not an irl people shipper, there have been very few that I have seen and speculated before they were together and these two were one. I can't remember exactly why but there was something in the air before that and I was sus. And then there were a few things, like Eliza was saying how her favourite song was Ophelia and then she turns to Bob and says 'you must be so sick of hearing it i play it so much' and I was hmm because are they spending that much time together? Bob was wearing a bunch of mardigras necklaces and when Eliza said she wanted one and a fan overheard bob saying to her something 'you'll have to give me something later for one' and then after break Eliza had some ??? Which people freaked out about but not enough in my opinion. And then the fact that (actually this might have been a later con my timeline is messy its been a while) Eliza was wearing an engagement ring and straight up told people she was engaged when they asked. People assumed it was to the guy who play mccrery because there was rumours of them dating but they hadn't been seen together in ages.
And then most importantly they were now pro-bellarke. Talking excitedly about the scenes. Saying themselves are sometimes confused because the script will saying something like 'bellamy looks at her lovingly.' but then Jroth continues to deny things. they weren't to the level of it now but they were for sure making it clear that jroth was gaslighting a fandom lol.
Anyway moving on to one quite morning, I hadn't touch social media all morning as it did laundry and when I finally take a break the fandom is imploding - thankfully I had only missed it by like 15minutes. But Bob and Eliza has both tweeted that they had gotten married with a pic of their hands on their wedding day. Now I instantly believed it - oh yeah it's all coming together. But there was all this shock because it seemingly came out of no where. People thought they had been hacked, and then other cast would congratulate them and then they were hacked. Certain people were saying its a cover because Eliza and Alycia actually got married, and other were saying Bob and Eliza were homophobic for getting married during pride month. But at the end of the day it was all true, there were married and it was happily ever after.
But for some reason this seemed to piss off JRoth and he seemed to get so much worse. At one point during the filming of season 7 i think (i get confused about later seasons it could have been 6 or 8) Bob and Jason unfollowed each other and we though it was hilarious until we realised what it could have meant. Recently beliza revealed that the bellarke get together was actually written, in a place that so many people has speculated and it would have made sense but at the last minute it was taken out.
It seemed like Jason didn't like the beliza was together, he was having more and more issues with Bob and Jason just didn't do bellarke out of spite. Did that stupid murder out of spite and gave a pandering ending for clexas out of spite.
Once the show was over beliza have been very open about how bellarke was always planned from the beginning and they don't understand why it never happened.
Any way I've been out of it for a while so I'm a bit foggy on the detail these days but that's the guts of it. Anyone is free to add

It’s a common fandom joke to make Sasha more pathetic b/c of her obsession with regaining control of the friendship in S2. I think her being a cheerleader is also often seen as a hilarious contrast to her being a warrior than a reminder of her femininity, like Grime playing the harp. The funniest fan portrayal is Marcy being portrayed in a rivalry with Sasha while Anne is the hapless victim subject to both of their manipulations.
yeah, I mean I guess it’s “pathetic” in the sense that sasha completely freaking out over the fact that anne and marcy are excluding her (not deliberately on their part, they often talk about her and the need to find her! but she doesn’t know that.) is like.... desperately sad? sasha is a very sad character, but whereas people seem to recognize marcy’s sadness without mocking it, ppl are like “lol isn’t it so pathetic that she’s mentally ill and actively suicidal.” and I won’t lie, I have seen jokes that I laughed at, like I’m not trying to moralize here, I just think it’s interesting that ppl see a suicidal child with a desperate, unhealthy need to feel wanted and are like “lol isn’t she pathetic.” like.....I guess???
as for sasha being a cheerleader, it’s clearly a huge part of her identity. like, she’s not doing it because she feels compelled to perform femininity; I think that’s an assumption you maybe could make in s1/2, but in s3 it’s clear she loves cheerleading! and I find it very interesting how sasha’s sport of choice is one that involves cooperation and teamwork, whereas anne claims she likes “me” sports because she’s too competitive to be on a team. part of anne’s growth is learning to be more engaged in a community and communicate and collaborate instead of only thinking about herself, whereas it’s clear from the second we meet sasha that she knows exactly how to be part of a team, how to form meaningful connections with people, and how to communicate as a leader. anne has to learn these skills that sasha already has. and of course the ultimate challenge is for them to communicate with each other, because anne isn’t used to asserting herself and sasha isn’t used to displaying genuine vulnerability. but you need to be able to do both if you genuinely want to connect with another person as their partner, which is why anne and sasha being co-commanders together is such an important step for both of them. (I realize that this was a digression from your point, but whatever.)
as for sasha and marcy being in a rivalry, I really don’t think that’s true. not only do they clearly love each other a lot, but I also don’t think either of them actually realize that anne is a pushover. marcy always assumes she knows best because she’s the smartest person in the room at all times obvi, and sasha feels that she must know best because otherwise what is she even good for (flaws that both of them do work on fwiw!). and anne agrees that they know best because thinking for herself is haaaard and she’s lazy. in the instances where anne does push back, for example saying to sasha, “im going to ditch you, for my parents who love me (something you don’t have!! hahahaha)” (to be clear, that’s obviously not what anne says, but that is what sasha hears) or to marcy, “i would actually rather spend time with the this frog family i met a few months ago than with you, my oldest and dearest friend” (again, not what she says, but what marcy hears) they retaliate specifically because anne touches a nerve. they both assume that anne would rather spend time with them than with her family because they would rather spend time with anne than with their families, and it hurts them to hear otherwise. I don’t think their friendship consists of victims or perpetrators, but rather three insecure, codependent girls who all hurt one another on occasion despite having good intentions, and who are all struggling with the prospect of growing up and growing apart. I know that toxicity and rivalry is fun and juicy, but just because they’re flawed and have made mistakes doesn’t mean they’re bad people. that’s actually a pretty important theme of the show, so like...

omg i finally found you!! I liked ur birthdaygate post AGES ago then forgot your url but im so glad i found you again bcos i have SO many questions- pls pls pls can you explain your theory more bcos its driving me crazy, a lot of people dont like this theory for some reason but im on the fence about how i feel about it :/
damn, I really thought I had the best hiding spot... *climbs out of a dark corner and stretches*
lol, hey!
ok so before I go any further into this, I just want to make something clear: I'm not the person who came up with the birthdaygate theory. I've seen a few people conflating birthdaygate with the post I made about something funky going on with the memories mentioned in the S2 shed scene, but they're like totally two separate things. Birthdaygate is the cool, big-brain theory that suggests Will's forgotten birthday is secretly a planned narrative tool that we'll see explained in Season 5 (whoever first put the evidence for that together, you rock and I have mad respect for you)
Memorygate on the other hand, is just a small expansion of it: my suggestion as to when or why Will's birthday might have been forgotten. Honestly, I'd not given the whole theory much thought before I unceremoniously threw it into the byler tag and watched the horror and heartbreak spread haha I'll do my best to explain it a little more, but I don't think I'll really be able to help much. My intention was never to convince people of anything. It was literally just me going, "huh... hey guys, isn't this kind of suspicious...?"
Tumblr media
and the thing is, if you don't believe in birthdaygate to begin with, then memorygate is completely moot. Like, it's just a lot of fun. But if birthdaygate is real, memorygate just might be one possible explanation. Maybe. ?? honestly? I think it would kinda suck if it was real. I totally understand why some people hate it. Whilst I'm sure it'd be a shocking twist, it would also be very deux ex machina, and it'd mess with the character's agencies.
but like, if it WAS suspicious... ...here we have a villain who can canonically a) view people in the present moment like they're all laid out on a chess board ("now-memories"), b) enter any mind he so wishes and spy on their innermost thoughts and memories, and c) seems to have a connection/obsession with time.
This villain is also literally told a bunch of memories relating to one of his primary antagonists. The S2 shed scene helped Will break free of his possession just enough to save the day, but at the same time, what if Vecna was being given precious ammunition that he could utilise for future use? It's kinda convenient that Will's birthday is A Thing™ now, and the ONE time it's mentioned in the narrative is one of the most powerful and important scenes. Coincidence? Yeeeeah, maybe.
and as to how Vecna could have 'used' all those memories for his own benefit, I can only speculate. We don't yet know enough about what Vecna is fully capable of. Can he flit through people’s mindscapes without the victim suspecting anything? Do they always have a nosebleed or a headache, or is that just for when he’s going to kill/ consume you to open a gate?  Memorygate is just the theory that Vecna’s done something to those memories, including Will's birthday, because he knows they helped Will fight back against his possession.
Of course, Will was physically possessed in comparison to the mind possession we saw with Max and the other victims, so we don’t know if that changes things either.  It could be time-related (like, the date itself has been screwed with) or it could be memory-related (e.g. nobody from the shed scene can remember it because at some point, Vecna has messed with their minds, one by one). I can't help but compare it to how Vecna entered Max's memory of the Snow Ball. She did the same thing that Will probably did, and entered a safe space in her mind to escape him. She fought back by remembering the good, anchoring herself to her friends and to her special dance/kiss with Lucas. But then Vecna found his way in to that memory, slowly but surely, and took it over so she could no longer hide there.
We didn't see it as an audience, but what if that was kind of what was happening inside Will's mind in S2?
I'm not sure what more I can say to explain the memory stuff because there's still a lot of guesswork when it comes to Vecna and his powers. But I can go a little further into the Byler part for you, seeing as I only briefly mentioned it in my first post and I assume that's what you want me to get into most. So Mike talks about DnD games and their swingset meeting, and I think the latter is arguably the most powerful memory mentioned in the whole scene. A lot of attention is focused on the swingset memory. It's super important. We can also pretty confidently conclude that Vecna is pissed at Mike, especially by the time S4 rolls round. He's long known who he is, and he knows he's directly foiled his plans on more than one occasion, just like El. So go back and watch the shed scene again, and think about what we learned about Vecna in Season 4. Was he watching from Will's eyes, a hulking presence stalking through his mind, clouding Will's sense of self and listening intently to every word Mike was saying? Yeah, probably. Mike was visibly emotional. Distressed, vulnerable, raw, honest. Vecna learned that day that Mike and Will are deeply special to one other. He knows they're best friends. He knows a lonely Mike first approached a similarly lonely Will on a swingset when they were in kindergarten ('it was the best thing I've ever done...'). He also probably knows how Will truly feels about Mike. So that's a lot of ammunition for him to help put his plans into action, whatever they may be. He apparently doesn't want to kill Will, but perhaps he wants to isolate him. To hurt him, to make him feel forgotten by his loved ones, in a long game to win him over? Who knows.......
Vecna plays chess with people. He spies, he collects information, he uses people's memories against them. And the shed scene would have been a prime opportunity. A feast, if you will.
Once again, I hope I'm wrong about this. :)

wow sending an ask to myseld wow how crazy. do sam a.wesamdude
Tumblr media
wow such a lovely request me 💚 thank you I thought you would never ask
I got unnormal and Angry so under the cut it is
Tumblr media
theres literally not much I can say cause I should keep this on the dl but they dont know. they dont know they have no idea they dont know the things that I do. all I can say is I am possibly the third highest Sam understander in the world. including his actor himself.
the only issues he gets of mine are sadism (which he already has) and aromanticism (which I mean…. this guys got major of romantic issues I had to)
(this is where it starts to derail) Sams done horrible things and he self justifies and rationalizes so much and its so sexy but also look me in the fucking eyes. Dream is not fucking undeserving. canonically Sam didnt ever touch Dream in prison anyway, he just allowed torture to occur but he did NOT starve him and he did NOT personally beat him. if ur gonna claim that I need you to look me in the eyes and explain to me that you understand that Dream kidnapped, isolated, and abused a teenager and drove him nearly to the point of suicide. he is not some uwuw tortured sweet angel. I love Dreams character so much but not because hes so tortured baby. but because hes a twisted and sick and obsessed individual. hes an excellent villain and hes so good at manipulation that all these stupid fans have fallen for it too despite the fact that he CONTINUOUSLY reinforces the fact that his character is evil to the bone and did not change and ounce from his imprisonment and is still just as obsessed with the abuse of a teenager. I know Im taking this too seriously and Im a huge villain enjoyer and if people were enjoying him for that I would be fine with it but these people literally act like exile doesnt exist when its one of THE most important arcs of the whole series. it takes up a whole fucking season like what were u doing during s2
and the abuse of Tommy that is mirrored and reinforced in Sam when hes in prison like AUUGGHHGHHH. YOU GUYYYS ARE STUPID THESE ARE INTENTIONAL PARALLELS. but people dont like or havent fucking seen Sams imprisonment/exile….2! and it makes me so angry. girl it literally spells everything out for you and was done like old style lore quick succession day after day streams
anyway back to Sam. raging over. literally fucked up men of all time. man has trauma up to here and only understands violence and love through violence and will always fall back into his abusers traps. he can never escape Dream hes literally carved into his skin and soul
the way this fandom either completely demonizes Sam and hates him for shit he didnt even fucking do (at least get it right!!!! hes done plenty of fucked up shit canonically!) or treats him like a uwu dad and smooths out all his intricacies and issues… fuck oooff. like my guy doesnt even care abt Tommy anymore. that self recognition and love and attempts to save Tommy like nobody ever saved him are GONE. Dream beat it all fucking out of him. he doubts exile now too like GOOODDDD hes so fucked in the head and so abused 💚 loyal hound always running back to his masters side 💚 governed by a short leash and a spiked collar, can never get too much of his own power because the second he does its turned on him tenfold
his refusal to kill Dream but killing R,anboo almost without hesitation to try and draw Dream back to prison GETTTTS ME. he cant kill Dream. he will inflict unspeakable violence on others but he cant personally lay a hand on Dream. most of my fics involve him hurting Dream to try and get back at him and realizing hes just falling into exactly what Dream wants for him, but the flavor of being unable to lay a hand against him is SO yummy. he can watch, he can allow torture to take place, but he cant have that responsibility, that weight on his shoulders. a good dog cannot bite the hand that feeds.
his own first death is SO GOOD. dying at Dreams hand after beginning to trust and believe in Dream again, falling once more until the lull of love and believing his lies and manipulation and Dream literally slamming it back in his face again that he will always hurt Sam and he will never change
Sams absence is so important to me but Im so sad he didnt have an important role until s3. I need to watch more of his s2 stuff to get a better picture of what I can work with there.
GOOOOODD PEOPLE DONT KNOW ABT HIS ABSENCE. gutz from berk momence. the fact that I cant talk abt this kills me
he is my man of all time and my ch: loyal hound tag is Him. r: mark of the beast is him and Dream.
literally everything is better and makes more sense if you understand that Sam and Dream had a turned-toxic relationship before the story started/before Sams absence and Tommys joining
look at him :)

Can you elaborate on the izzy hands thing you posted? I’m really interested
YES i am kissing you on the lips rn thank you for asking. i'm in a better mood than i was when i made the original post, so i prommy the bitchiness will be kept to a minimum
adding a read more because this is SO long i am humiliated. i do not want the well-adjusted mutuals to see how much i wrote good god
first of all from a technical standpoint, i don't think this is the route that the writers are taking the show. as far as we've seen in s1, homophobia doesn't exist in the omfd universe. it could change, sure, but judging from the atmosphere of the show, along with what jenkins and waititi have said about the future of ofmd*, i truly doubt they would introduce it this late in the game. not to mention that the setup for s2 means they have much bigger fish to fry as it is without introducing a whole other conflict.
and i know the internalized homophobia izzy sentiment is coming from more of a place of character analysis/theory/joking than of genuine prediction but we have canon evidence that izzy?? is not homophobic??? like if you want to write a character study at least do it correctly goddamn.
the only time we see izzy interact with a gay couple outside of ed and stede is when he catches lucius and pete in the shiphold. he's pissed off at them because a) he's izzy and b) they're not doing their work, but there's literally zero context clues that implies he's coming from a place of disgust for their queerness. he just has that trademark izzy hands stick up his ass.
not to mention jack saying "anything goes at sea", paying respect to the fact that pirates were REALLY FUCKING GAY. izzy is a 'real pirate' according to. well. izzy. real pirates fuck men
but what i REALLY wanted to talk about is izzy's relationship with ed. i think this tweet sums up the majority of my thoughts pretty well, but just to reiterate, izzy is VERY obsessive over the blackbeard persona. he constantly reminds ed to remember the image and responsibilities he has to uphold as blackbeard, and explicitly says that it is his job as first mate to make sure ed is satisfied.
he keeps the crew in line, squashes mutinies in the making, and is overtly loyal to blackbeard. whenever ed expresses interest in changing his career approach, in letting go of blackbeard, izzy is immediately there to talk him out of it, to wax poetic about why blackbeard is so great. izzy likes the idea of ed as blackbeard, and he likes that blackbeard is this static, unchanging thing in his life that he can always rely on (his lighthouse, perhaps?). to izzy, blackbeard represents success, masculinity, and fear (both of the pious and violent natures), all of which he values greatly.
this leads me to my next point, which is that izzy does value ed as a person beyond the blackbeard persona. however, he is very possessive of ed. we constantly see izzy call him both "ed" and "edward", but is offput when stede does the same. izzy wants ed to be seen/respected as blackbeard to everyone else, but only he is allowed to be intimate enough with blackbeard to know him as edward. which like. bitch me too i am very jealous when it comes to my homoerotic friendships
oh my god i've already written so much but im just gonna keep running. you know That Scene in ep10 where izzy taunts ed for getting soft with stede, gets his shit rocked, then gently caresses ed's face?? because of izzy's obsession with the idea of blackbeard, the only way he knows how to get an emotional response from ed is to provoke him. he sees how stede gets to be intimate with ed through gentleness and doesn't understand it. why is ed vulnerable with someone who isn't izzy? how is someone able to get ed's attention without aggression? GOD i need to chew on some tire rubber.
when ed is inspired/encouraged by stede to change as a person, izzy is unable to accept that ed is a dynamic being. he is also unable to accept that ed can be "edward" with someone else who isn't him.
ANYWAYS im tired of fans constantly pushing the internalized homophobia narrative onto antagonistic characters/characters they are very vocal about not liking. i'm not gonna pull the problematic card because that's a whole other can of worms, but i'm tired of seeing this used as the ONLY reason a character dislikes another queer character/couple. please im begging you queer people are far more complex than that. there are more conflicts you can have than just Being Gay.
maybe it's because im the only person to correctly interpret media in the world ever but people will just just slap a buzzword onto anything. did we even watch the same show 🤨
Tumblr media
post-ofmd, i was very surprised to come into online spaces and find that so many ppl hate izzy i fucking LOVE him. i remember watching the show and being like this guy. this guy right here is funky. he's a pal. izzy being the only person with a braincell is fucking hilarious. he's a drama character written into a cast of comedy characters, the voice of reason who constantly gets plowed over for the gag. its GREAT. he's great. i could fix him but whatever's wrong with him is so much better.
*namely that there are too many tragic queer stories out there and they don't want to add another one to the mix, along with the fact that they don't care much for historical accuracy. jenkins literally said he and waititi "don't care about pirates" like 😭 he just wanted to write a queer comedy and there happen to be pirates in it
TL;DR: izzy's primary reason for disliking stede and ed's relationship is because he is in love with (and possessive of) the idea of ed, but can't accept that ed as a person is dynamic and changing. stop saying characters you dislike have internalized homophobia u dickwads.
here's my twitter btw i have an ongoing thread where i put all my ofmd thoughts that have me waking up in a cold sweat at 3am. if you are interested <3 ok thank u again bye

Recommend some tv shows too plss
this is an old ask bc i've been saving it oops. this is gonna get long as well so i'll put a cut for all those who don't want to scroll endlessly when this comes on ur dash lmfao <3
I'm going to categorise these because my taste is SO messy, starting with...
Anime
avatar: the last airbender = (listen i know there's a big thing about if it's an anime or not but yk what i mean don't yell at me). so 99% of you have watched this but surprisingly there's a few of you here that follow me just for the shits and gigs, so to you i say go watch atla! beautiful showstopping nostalgic complex characters jawdropping worldbuilding etc etc
jujutsu kaisen = you knew this was coming. plot that wows. notably complex female characters for a genre that typically doesn't do too well in that regard. angst central but it's SO good that you won't even be too mad about it. only one season so far so it's an easy watch, though there's a film coming soon!
haikyuu = fucking hell i adore this show. there is such a huge cast of characters yet every single one is individual and fleshed out. the parallels and the journey and the banter is all so so fantastic. a feel-good show <3
Young Adult
atypical = i will shout about this show from the rooftops. the main focus is a teenage autistic boy navigating teenage life, but it also branches out into the members of his family and their own personal lives, especially in s2 where there's a wlw relationship!!! but the main focus is sam and i really hope they keep that in s3 regardless of all the hype casey and izzie - rightfully - got
teen wolf - im not even embarrassed. i love this dumb show. i am going to marry stiles stilinski and no one can stop me
skam - holy shit holy shit holy shit this is a TOP rec pls watch this. everyone's always arguing between if skins or euphoria is the most realistic portrayal of adolescence (spoilers: it's neither) but THIS is genuinely so realistic. the characters look like teenagers and have acne and talk like real teenagers would and they have serious problems that not all teenagers can relate to but they also have more relatable issues too. it's just incredible i could talk about skam for hours. there's a lot of renditions of it so you can watch it in a lot of languages (i've watched most of them idc if it's the same storyline each time you can take skam from my cold dead hands) but the best is the original, which is norwegian
sex education - it's a little more forced than skam, but i'm gonna say this is another show about teenagers that genuinely captures teenagers, and it is so so important. it doesn't ignore the fact that teenagers are having sex, nor does it sexualise it. instead, it's what it is in the title; educating. but in a fictional and fun and UNCRINGEY way. and representation wise it covers A LOT so all in all give it a watch
derry girls - obsessed. it's set during the troubles but is focused more on the girls and their everyday lives INTERTWINED with that turmoil, and it's genuinely one of the funniest things i've ever watched. but if you see me sobbing at james saying he's a derry girl then no you don't
Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Etc?? idk how genres work
merlin - if you haven't watched this by now then honestly what are you doing?? boy has magic and show is wildly homoerotic. that's it that's the plot. also gwaine exists and that makes my life significantly better
the good place - *screams loud and long* hilarious and existential??? idk how but it works
stranger things - i really don't think i need to explain this one bc it's everywhere but just know the dynamics and humour and soundtrack are all >>>>>>>>
the 100 - one of the first shows i ever really got into. the first 4 seasons are genuinely incredible, with such interesting plot points and characters and relationships and worldbuilding etc. it went downhill after that in my opinion but still worth a watch. octavia blake and raven reyes were my bisexual awakening
misfits - SUCH AN ICONIC SHOW honestly if you can't quote this on the regular to your mates then what are you doing (actually that might just be a brit thing). this started my all-consuming crush on robert sheehan that has yet to go away. it's about a group of young offenders getting super powers which SOUNDS like it should be childish but really really isn't
dark - holy shit okay. i started watching this just bc it was at a time where i was studying for my german gcse and my sister was studying for her german a-level SIMULTANEOUSLY and we both needed some easy revision, so we went 'sod it let's find a tv show'. we were so unprepared. holy shit. the brain power i used to understand this show im-. and not because it's complicated per say, it's just so so so fascinating. proper mind fuck. i don't know anyone else who's watched it so i am ALL EARS if anyone gives this a go
K-Dramas
crash landing on you - this is my favourite kdrama and one of my favourite shows of ALL TIME. the set up is fucking GOLDEN and the main group of characters are literally enemies to found family and i adore it so fucking much. i rewatch this all the time. comfort show of 2020 (and that's saying something bc we all know what a shambles 2020 was) ((this has also reminded me that this is yet another media me and kai have together. hi kai im in love with you))
descendants of the sun - i just really love the romance here and also the friendship between the male mc and his best mate lmfao. hi wolf aha *leans on my lambourgini*
suspicious partner - the female mc is such a mood and i adore her. the romance here is again top notch bc it's just that 'person A is a mess and person B is VERY fucking exasperated' trope and im a sucker for that
Misc
friday night dinner - this is HUGE in my friendship group. like literally you get scorned if someone makes a friday night dinner reference and you don't get it. also fucking hilarious and the only valid sibling dynamic in all of media. the plot is literally just these two adult boys come home every friday to have dinner with their parents but shenanigans always ensue bc the boys are IDIOTS or bc their insane neighbour (jim my beloved) does some dumb shit. it gets a bit ridiculous at times but honestly is so funny, watch it if you need something light and happy <3
peaky blinders - i didn't know which category to put this in so despite it being at the very end i would like it to be known that this is one of my favourite shows OF ALL TIME. i love the storyline and the brothers and holy shit the SOUNDTRACK. alfie solomens is played by tom hardy and you can just tell tom hardy is having a fucking ball with it bc alfie solomens is CRAZY kjdhgjkdhg. it's based on a real life gang in birmingham and it's about how they started out proper working class and made their way in the world because one of the brothers - tommy shelby - is really smart. literally kaz brekker before kaz brekker came along
christ i knew this was gonna be long but FUCKING HELL HELLA SHUT UP FOR ONCE okay im done i definitely missed some but these are the main ones for your viewing pleasure <3

... I’m interested in legitimately gay Reese (I assume one piece of evidence is “look at what they’re doing and tell me you’re not gay”)
okay this is like 2 days late but this is why reese malcolminthemiddle is legitimately gay:
(side note: did anyone need a queer media thesis paper or something... I am willing to share lmao)
so none of this is like... rock solid evidence or anything but I need to believe at least one main character of a show is gay and/or trans to maintain interest and reese is the most plausible gay character. also it’s early 2000′s so he just gets a lot of vaguely homophobic jokes lmao
first of all, yes, the biggest piece of evidence he’s gay is those lines from that episode I quoted the other day--thinking malcolm is gay, he tries to show his support by giving him a gay porno: “’Naught Pool Boys 3!’ I watched 10 or 12 of these, and this one seems to have the most stuff you guys like.” and when malcolm says he isn’t gay, reese responds “Malcolm. Check out what those guys are doing in that movie, and THEN tell me you’re not gay.”-- so, 1) reese sat down and watched like a dozen gay porn movies to ““find a good one for his gay brother”” and 2) he thinks malcolm would reconsider his heterosexuality if he watched what was in that movie, implying that HE reconsidered his sexuality after watching that movie, or at the very least found it hot
in the same episode, the character tricking malcolm into thinking reese is gay lists the following as evidence: he obsesses over his hair and his looks, loves his gourmet cooking, has a bunch of magazines covered in comically muscular men, and that he’s angry and acts like a jerk because he’s “dealing with something weird and confusing.” now obviously, the obsession with hair/looks can be chalked up to the fact that he’s a teenage boy, and there’s nothing inherently gay about enjoying cooking. the dozen magazines of muscle-bound men could certainly be taken as gay evidence, though, and it IS established in the show that his entire bully persona is his way of masking his inner feelings and insecurities. there’s literally a whole episode where he & malcolm realize they have no friends because they act like little shits to push people away because they’re afraid of rejection and/or abandonment from their peers. they ostracize themselves before they can be ostracized by the other students at school. I could probably write a whole other essay on reese’s psyche tbqh lmao there’s a shocking amount there!!
of the brothers who are actually old enough to be attracted to girls (reese, malcolm, and francis), he shows the least interest. now bear with me here. you might be thinking, “well, yeah, it’s malcolm’s show, we’re not gonna see things from other people’s perspective!” but that is actually surprisingly untrue, the show is very much equally shown from each family members’ perspectives. starting about s2, when malcolm is in early middle school, he starts getting crushes on girls and pursuing them. francis goes after a few women in the first couple seasons and then marries a woman we see a lot throughout the show.
in the roughly... 130?? episodes I have watched so far, nearly all of reese’s “interest” in girls involve either: competition with malcolm, genuinely just liking her as a friend, or some completely ulterior motive. the only exception to this I can think of is in the early seasons where he has a crush on a cheerleader and tries to get on her good side by joining the cheerleading squad, which the writers clearly set up as a way to make gay jokes about reese. let me give you a few examples of his relationships with girls
the first relationship we see him in is with a “stupid girl” that malcolm tried (and failed) to date, and the main reason they get together is that they think on the same wavelength and genuinely seem to enjoy hanging out. they take breaks from their bro chats to make out every once in a while. eventually he gets her to break up with him because he doesn’t want to go to the school dance with her (he doesn’t want to go at all). years later, he’s dating some girl we meet for like 5 minutes, before he goes to confess to her that she’s the first girl he’s ever loved. she then breaks up with him. he’s sad, but taking it fairly well. he’s about to leave when he sees malcolm hiding under the bed, and learns that he stole his girlfriend. he then runs away to join the army. he was clearly MUCH more upset that his brother stole his girlfriend than he was that his girlfriend broke up with him. there are many more instances of him and malcolm competing for a girl’s affections, and he seems mostly motivated by the competition itself.
in addition to “stupid girl,” he also manufactures an “attraction” to his female army buddy in the last season. the premise of this episode is that his old army buddy (a girl he play-wrestles with and insults like he would his own brothers) comes to visit him, and malcolm convinces reese that she’s attracted to him, and that reese’s nervousness at learning that fact is proof he’s in love with her. there’s a misunderstanding where reese asks her if she has certain “feelings” and she says she does, but what she ACTUALLY means is that she has a crush on reese’s MOM. she’s a lesbian. reese later propositions her (saying he’s saved his virginity for this--he’s probably about 18 here), and when she says omg no im gay, he is HUGELY relieved they can go back to being friends. CLASSIC mlm/wlw friendship moment.
there’s an episode where these cute girls pick up reese (& nerds) to kiss in front of their boyfriends to make them jealous. reese is all for it, and when malcolm argues that it’s not worth his dignity and the beating he’ll get from the girl’s boyfriend, reese counters that that’s WHY he wants to do this--he’s completely invisible at school, and thinks getting beaten up for kissing some guy’s girlfriend will at least make him known around school. at no point does he indicate he’s actually attracted to this girl, and when it comes time to kiss her, he finds the weakest excuse to run away at the last minute.
im not gonna list all of these but there’s more lmao
the following is a random assortment of one-off gay jokes and out-of-context lines with gay reese implications, often homophobically bc its early 2000′s writing:
says “I’m gay” to a girl to give malcolm a better shot at her
(again in competition with malcolm) tries to flirt with a girl by spraying milk in her face as the punchline to a joke, which is. well. hm. self-sabotaging, to say the least!!
Reese: “Do you think it’s right to totally change who you are and turn your back on EVERYTHING you believe in, just to impress a hot guy??” [his dad gives a long, blank stare, before asking:] “...Burt Reynolds hot, or Sting hot?”
“YEAH I like clouds! I call them sky kittens :)” (I just think that one’s sweet!)
“Look, Christie, here’s the thing. When I first met you, I was just messing around. But we’ve gotten so close that, now... I really like you! I can’t keep this up anymore. I’m not the person you think I am. I’ve been pretending since the day I met you. It’s so hard having to constantly cover my tracks to keep my story straight... and I don’t WANT to anymore! I’m tired of living this lie! I’m done with it. I’m sorry.”
he catfishes some guy to blackmail him, but is implied to continue the flirtation even after the catfishing/blackmail is revealed
reese is, technically, married to a man. this particular plot point is played as a joke and manages to be both racist and homophobic, so I won’t go into it. but I believe he is still married to that man. technically.
reese takes care of a huge box full of caterpillars until they pupate and become beautiful butterflies. I feel like there’s some kind of gay coming out metaphor here somewhere.
I think there are a couple other times where he comments on a guy’s attractiveness but I couldn’t find specific instances.
In conclusion: Reese is a deeply repressed gay kid who was socialized SO thoroughly as an early 2000′s straight boy that, despite his attraction for men and his obvious compulsory heterosexuality, he still cannot admit to himself that he is gay even as he enters adulthood. Furthermore, his subconscious frustration about this fact is turned outward to form the “schoolyard bully” costume he uses to mask his insecurities and keep others from getting too close to him.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. I could be convinced to come back for another talk about how Dewey is trans or about how each and every member of that family is neurodivergent in entirely different ways. Assuming anyone has read this far in the first place!!

Angel is really out here thinking he’s the ONE thing in Buffy’s life that’s making it crazy. She’s literally the vampire slayer, living on the mouth of hell, with her equally supernatural besties. Like pal you are making Buffy crazy but that isn’t why. The critical thinking is zero. Like Angel really took the “vampires have have reflection” thing in all possible meaning
this is!! a solid point anon
ok like im listening to season 2 of buffering the vampire slayer rn and their song for "what's my line" repeats its refrain on the quote: "you're the only freaky thing in my freaky life that still makes sense" which im honestly very obsessed with?? like, im not the biggest bangel person as im sure anyone could tell, but i am unironically into their s2 Properly Dating era (which is such a thin sliver of the season tbh) bc i think it leans into the weird of them? like buffy kissing vamp face angel at the ice rink is so gorgeous and gets me every fucking time. bangel embracing that their relationship is so compelling to each of them precisely because of how strange and gothic and grotesque and freaky it is???? that's the shit
and then s3, they've both been through so much trauma and they were never great at communicating before and now really aren't, and have like ??? both independently decided that the way to be safe is to do this play farce at normality, and not in the campy tongue-in-cheek way of s2 that moves with and allows for the macabre of their lives, but in this way that tries to be normal in spite of their macabre lives. and it's just tragic. i think angel's wedding nightmare shows that, the one where buffy burns in the sun. he's constructed this false reality where he's the thing keeping buffy back from a normal life, and imo it's bc it's easier to follow that logic than to admit the truth that they just no longer fit into each other's inner or outer worlds.
it's all culminating in the fact that angel breaks up with buffy by calling their relationship a "freak show" (which she'll later throw back at spike in wrecked, showing how much she's internalized it)
