You can’t throw a stone in romance without hitting a FAKE DATING story, so we dedicated an episode to it in season 4. We talked about when it works, why it works, how it works, and by whom it works, so get your library cards ready because this one will topple your TBR! While this one is, as always, for the readers, there’s lots of goal/motivation/conflict here for the writers, too.

↳ January Wrap-Up ˚୨୧⋆。
Better late than never, right?
Here’s my wrap-up for January! It was a good reading month for me, and a great start to the year, reading wise :)
~ I Dare You by Ilsa madden-mills
~ Taken By A Sinner by Michelle Heard
~ How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
~ Owned By A Sinner by Michelle Heard
~ The Marriage Game by Sara Desai
~ Heartstopper: Vol #1 by Alice Oseman
~ Heartstopper: Vol #2
~ Heartstopper: Vol #3
~ Heartstopper: Vol #4
~ The Heartstopper Yearbook
~ The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
~ Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
~ The Sun Will Rise and So Will We by Jenna Cecelia
~ Uncaged Wallflower by Jennae Cecelia
~ Riot House by Callie Hart
I enjoyed all of my January reads but the notable mentions would have to be - in no particular order:
The Heartstopper Series, I absolutely devoured and loved these graphic novels, I enjoyed them that much I just had to go and binge watch the Heartstopper Netflix series right after it!!
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories, was a beautiful dive into Cardan’s childhood. It definitely gave some insight as to why he behaved the way he did. After reading The Folk of the Air Series back in 2022, I loved being able to go back to Elfhame even if it was for a short while. Jude x Cardan will forever hold a place in my heart <3
And finally, Milk and Honey. Wow just wow! This was my first poetry book, can you believe that?! I loved every single passage, it was raw, beautiful and I found myself being able to relate to quite a few poems.

“The couple has chemistry to spare and Madden-Mills packs in the feels. Returning readers will be pleased.” —Publishers Weekly
Princess and the Player, an all-new sexy, surprise pregnancy sports romance featuring a meet cute at a masquerade ball from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills, is out now!
A masquerade ball brings together an NFL player and a penniless princess in this smart and sexy romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills.
Levelheaded Francesca Lane never thought she’d miss her own wedding. But when her fiancé betrays her, she puts on her wedding dress and ditches the altar for a masquerade ball—at an exclusive lifestyle club.
There, she meets unknown-to-her NFL star Tuck Avery, dressed as a prince and hiding behind a mask—he’s there to celebrate his birthday. For one night, Francesca and Tuck indulge in a wickedly incognito affair. No names. No strings. And the masks don’t come off.
Unfortunately, Francesca realizes quickly that her masked prince is the wealthy jock who lives in the penthouse of her apartment building. His hobbies include parties and supermodels—or so the tabloids say. Getting tangled up with a shallow jerk is the last thing Francesca needs right now, so she vows to keep Tuck from recognizing her (not that she’s his type anyway).
But fate has a teeny-tiny trick up her sleeve…a plus sign on a pregnancy test. Can this tormented prince accept love, or will he push his princess away forever?

Skyscraper cheekbones, lush lips, and magnetic topaz eyes.
I’m talking about Eric Hansen.
Boyfriend Material, an all-new enemies-to-lovers sports romance full of heat and chemistry from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills is available now!
#1 Amazon Bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills delivers an all-new, enemies-to-lovers sports romance, a breathtaking tale of passion, heartbreak, and love…
Skyscraper cheekbones, lush lips, and magnetic topaz eyes.
I’m talking about Eric Hansen.
Rich prick.
Glorified hockey star.
Thinks he’s amazing.
The Golden Boy and I are well acquainted. In prep school he trampled on my heart then kept right on going.
Now, he’s living the high life with frat parties and puck bunnies at Hawthorne University. On the other hand, people barely notice me—unless I’m on stage taking my clothes off. I’m the nobody, surviving in the seedy part of town as I fight to keep my head above treacherous waters.
I’ve snubbed him for three years.
The avoidance game we’ve been playing was working—until he rescues me from a bad guy and claims he wants to help me more.
Hello. I don’t need a knight in shining armor. This girl saves herself.
Yet, I’m not sure how long I can ignore the undeniable spark between us. (It’s not even a spark; it’s a full-fledged, blazing fire.)
Can this hockey player prove he’s boyfriend material, or will our past get in the way?
This steamy romance is perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers or second-chances. Boyfriend Material is a new adult college romance.

Keep reading for a look inside Boyfriend Material!
Eric’s large frame and rugged handsomeness takes the air from my lungs. His hair is pulled back in a man-bun, my fav look on him.
No. I do not have a favorite look for him, but it does show off his ridiculous cheekbones and aristocratic, slightly bent nose.
He’s wearing jeans, gold Converse, and a HU shirt. The lion on the front seems to glare at me—much like he is now.
I lean against the doorjamb. Be cool, be cool. “Howdy, partner.”
He doesn’t smile. “That guy at the laundromat is scary. Stay away from him. I mean it.”
I huff. The nerve of him to tell me what to do.
“That’s what I told you. I repeat, you could have been hurt. Let me handle Connor.”
His arms cross. “How did you get involved with him? Are you on drugs?”
I tuck my hands in my pockets and dip my head so he can’t see how much his words hurt. I know I strip, no one has to remind me, but in prep school, I was the goody-two shoes who never wavered. I had to keep my grades up to keep my scholarship—not that I was ever invited to parties. I wrote poetry. I drew. I daydreamed about him. “Do I look like an addict?”
His golden eyes roam over me. Assessing. “Maybe.”
My throat tingles with words I want to say but know I shouldn’t.
The less he knows, the better.
His nose flares. “I’m trying to help you and you’re giving me the cold shoulder. What’s wrong with you?”
I swallow thickly as I gaze at him. “Eric. Please. Being around me will only smear your good name—”
“Stop,” he calls out, then rubs his face, his anger seeming to deflate like a popped tire. “Don’t put yourself down like that. You’re a person, Julia. One that people care about.”
And I want to protect those people.
I chew on my bottom lip. “You shouldn’t have interfered.”
He lets out a long sigh, gives me a searching look, goes to leave, then stops. He reaches into his pocket and holds something up. “This is yours, I assume.”
I stare at the ring, my lips parting. “How did you . . .?”
But he’s already out the door.

My Review
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ilsa Madden-Mills absolutely CRUSHED IT with Boyfriend Material! This enemies-to-lovers sport romance is so full of sexual tension you can feel it dripping off the pages. This was the best story, taking my breath away, and putting me firmly on the edge of my seat from the beginning. And each interaction between the main character pulls you in more as you can’t wait to experience what’s yet to come. Eric and Julia are just absolute perfection.
Julia has always had to work hard for everything she’s wanted and was only able to go to Hawthorne University by getting scholarships and grants to pay her way. But when her mother got hurt and
became addicted to pain killers everything changed. Now she is working as a stripper at one of the campus strip clubs to pay off money she owes to a local loan shark.
Eric is Captain of the Hawthorne University Hockey team, one of the campus elite. With his wealthy background you would think that he has had it made, but you would be so wrong. His parents have expectations of him, which includes being the perfect son like his brother Kurt, becoming a lawyer, and working at his father’s hedge fund.
Julia and Eric have a past that started and ended back in prep school. She was in love with him and he was a player. She thought he would be different with her than his reputation suggested, but the day after he took her v-card he ghosted her. Now years later on Hawthorne University campus, if they see one another they go the other way. Except one night when Eric sees that she is in trouble and he goes out of his way to help her out. But now he can’t seem to get Julia out of his mind.
“For the first time in years, we’re kissing, only it isn’t like it was in prep school. Those kisses were hurried and rushed, full of angst and lust. This is different.”
This was a fast paced story, full of angst, passion and some seriously heavy emotional issues for both of these two to get through. But when they finally get together this slow burn romance, seriously turns up the heat. A real page turner, that brought all the feels! Loved this!
Received an early copy and this is my honest review.

15 Spicy Sports Romance Books
It’s become a tradition of sorts for me to put up a new sports romance recommendation list this specific week every year, when everyone’s got the big game on their minds. It’s certainly not a hardship; sports romances are popular for a reason – it’s a versatile sub-genre that incorporates many, many different tropes. From college romances to professional athletes to retired players, there are so…

The Orc from the Office by Kate Prior My rating: 3 of 5 stars Quick(ish) Review The second book in this series features the HR person from the first book, Janice and her accidental bonding with IT Orc nerd, Khent (gotta love it when they JRWard up a name with some extra h’s lol). I still love a mix of the mundane with the fantastical and a workplace romance. My problem with the first book is slightly exacerbated this book because Janice isn’t thinking about anything but her own self and I kind of wished she had her epiphany a little earlier. I understood why she was so focused on herself but I would have loved to see more of Khent. He’s a cinny roll kind of hero it you don’t get to know him that well and his personality doesn’t leap off the page. Still liked it and I’m interested in reading the next book. View all my reviews
