sorry for answering that ask half asleep. the REAL thing you need to know about dragon age is that it’s not one of those fantasy worlds that’s built really deeply fixed into real history with deep knowledge. it borrows shallowly. it’s built first and foremost to set a videogame in and i love that about it, that it’s built so quickly you can still see the scaffolding went up and how they got there. they decide on a worldbuilding principle—“uhhh what if our jesus figure was [spins wheel] joan of arc?”—and they go for it because they are on a schedule. you should absolutely never be intimidated by dragon age lore it does not know more than you. all i’m doing is being able to make good guesses at what they’re borrowing from and make leaps from there

#not that there isnt real knowledge at all. mary kirby’s borrowing of biblical style for the chant of light is really good for example #and SOMEONE knew enough abt the fall of the roman empire to write the tevinter and andrastian lore #someone knew enough to put a schism in there etc #but in general it’s an IKEA furniture type worldbuilding and i love it dearly

Reimu mail orders a blahaj out of the catalog of Modern Day Stuff that's ascended to semi-mythical status. Somehow its arrival causes an incident.

i had to look up what a blahaj was bc it sounded familiar. i don't have one of those but i do have this guy who i think is pretty similar and cool

anyway the incident happens because trying to buy ikea merch in gensokyo spawned in an entire ikea and now everyone is fighting over it. they're not even paying for stuff. reimu still hasn't gotten her shark plushie either (this is her core motivation during the story)

#it's a phantasmagoria style game. different areas of ikea are different stages.#most of the new youkai are gensokyo natives.#however there is also the Queen of Ikea and also the delivery person who was meant to deliver the shark. they got distracted.

Im staying at a friends like newly renovated place and it just struck me WHY it feels so wrong, its all been like bought VERY RECENTLY and at the sameish time, so everything is like new simple designs, all very modern and minimalist, it all lacks like spirit and character and SMELL?? Like I realized theres no smell to it??? The main areas are so neutral it feels genuinely off putting.
