You smiled, turning from the window as you heard the gentle footsteps come further into your little home.
"oh..? I thought the celestial realm called you back."
"I was able to get time off my duties to come see you, I do have a duty to protect you after all."
Luke smiled brightly at you, a bag in hand as he walked into your room. His face faltered for a moment seeing you were out of bed but kept his smile, placing the bag down on the table.
"awww, you're still such a sweet young boy."
You reached out to him, your wrinkled hands shaking slightly. He huffed at your cooing but none the less, bowed down so you could pinch his cheeks. You smiled wider; happy there was still some baby fat on him.
"I'm not a boy! I'm a grown man."
He was pouting childishly; some habits never dying. But sadly, he was right. By now he has finally grown up. He wasn't exactly an adult but he was close. He was no longer the small boy you use to know in the Devildom, he was now a tall gentle man. He reminded you alot of Simeon but definitely didn't go after his sense of fashion.
He was grown. And you've grown....grown to become old and Sickly. He still had such a youthful face despite being thousands years older. It was truly unfair but you would rather he looked as young as he did than look like you. Saggy and wrinkled. Death on your lips, it made them dry. It tasted bland and sour.
"what did you bring me this time? I hope it's a new recipe."
"I actually visited the Devildom before coming here, I made your favourite with Barbatos."
He unpacked the bag, revealing the sweet treat. It was going to be far too sweet for your taste buds now but you couldn't refuse. He frowned slightly, placing his hands on your shoulders.
"you should be in bed, the doctors said you need to rest."
"I'm not doing anything, those doctors shouldn't think of me to be so fragile! I spent years in hell." You grumbled, grinding your drenchers.
You missed the demons; it's been awhile since they've visited. It was unusual....for years outside or in hell you were surrounded by them. Always pestering you and wanting your attention. Endless plans that always ended with Lucifer fixing it. You missed them.....so so much..... you just wished your magic didn't grow so weak.
"yeah.... you're unbeatable so being in bed won't be anything."
He had you there. But it was growing tiresome of just sitting in bed. You were wasting away in it; the doctors weren't sure what was going to take you out first. Old age or illness. All Anyone could hope for that it's peaceful and in your sleep.
Luke helped you back in bed, smiling as he tucked you in. He placed the desserts holder on your lap before whisking himself away to the kitchen. He made you both some tea and picked up cutlery on the way back. You thanked him when he handed you the cup, humming happily at the warmth. The world felt so cold now.
"Have the brothers visited lately? Barbatos seemed.... solemn - did something happen?"
"No, it's been mostly you or Simeon seeing me but I don't blame them, it must be hard to see me - I know Simeon tried to stop you aswell, Saying it'll be too hard on your heart."
"nothing is going to stop me not even Simeon! you're family, and those demons-! They should be seeing you!"
He didn't even realize he stomped his foot, pouting and puffing out his cheeks. No matter how much he wanted to be called a man, he was still young. You hoped you'll get to see him fully mature into a powerful angel he was destined to be. You knew he'd be a great help to the celestial realm and make people just as happy as he's made you.
You always saw yourself as just an older sibling and he seemed to feel the same but now you felt more like a parent. Watching your child grow up and be better than you ever were. He made you so proud.
"ah~ theres the young boy I know, always pouting and complaining about demons, it was so nice to see you freely enjoy yourself the third term, you looked so much happier."
"he can see all sorts, perhaps something bad is going to happen soon but it could always be, he saw a rat in the castle - oh the way he could loose all composure-!"
"if it wasn't due to a recent visit then- why was barbatos so glum? Do you think he's okay?"
You both bursted out laughing, imagining the usually stoic butler frantically smacking the floor with a broom whilst ontop of a counter. Your laughed grew louder and louder until you choked on it; coughing harshly into your shaky palm as your chest tightened.
Luke quickly helped you sit up properly, rubbing your back as your coughing slowly died out. He told you to keep it easy but noticed how quickly your mood soured. He patted your lap and held up the forks; forcing a small smile on his face.
"let's eat, shall we?"
you both dug in, he kept his bites small as it was for you after all. You didn't even realize you teared up; the flavour was the exact same if not better than you remember. Barbatos always knew how to make it perfect for you; even now as your sugar fondness has simmered it still tasted just as good.
He really was amazing....
Luke wiped your stray tears as you stared at the treat, a distant look in your eyes. The angel was starting to panic; no matter his efforts you were becoming unhappy. Was it him? Was it talking about the Devildom? But he knew if he tried to never talk about it you'd just insist on knowing. He didn't want to keep making you upset.
"I'm sorry, just - I've been so nostalgic lately, I really appreciate what you've done, don't be upset with yourself, Luke, just ignore this old human."
"I can talk about the celestial realm, would that make you feel better? Or-or- new Cake ideas-!"
"I'd like that very much, has the celestial realm change much?"
"it's been really busy, I'm actually getting my own apprentice soon! She's been a late bloomer with her wings but she's been amazing with prophecies - I've ranked up actually! I'm almost to my goal....soon- I'm going to be just like Michael and I can help humans across the globe!"
He was beaming, his hands becoming more animated as he talked. You hummed softly to yourself, nodding as your eyes drifted to the wall. His voice soothing you.
"And- and the demon angel partnership has been a huge success! Theres been more pairs ups this year than any other! Things are really improving in the other realms- you know it's all thanks to you, right? You did this."
He waited for your response, but you didn't say anything. You just stared at the wall behind him. Luke's head tilted to the side, dread creeping up his spine.
"(Y/N)-?" He gently shook your hand, trying not to startle you incase you were just zoning out again.
But that's when it hit him. His fingers wrapped around your wrist, there was nothing. No pulse.
"(Y/N)?!"
The young angel screamed as tears flooded down his cheeks, shaking your body. He kept calling out your name but you never responded. He tried everything he could; giving CPR, using his magic - he even consider using the life trees leaves from the celestial realm.
He just - you couldn't be- he wouldn't let you! He's your guardian angel! Yours not supposed to be -! Not yet!!!
NOT YET!!
Your soul spilled out of your chest, he sobbed as it formed into an orb. He hugged it close to his chest as he cried, Begging it to return to your body.
"please.... please-! I'm asking nicely- why won't you go back?! It isn't time! Please!"
No matter how hard he pressed your soul back to your chest it refused to enter your body.
You were gone.

Brown Butter Chai Scones
Presenting by popular request, Brown Butter Chai Scones. Recipe by Simon Snow of Watford Bakery 😉❤️

These scones are HEAVENLY. I think I could die just from eating them. I gave myself a stomachache this morning. The brown butter gives them a warm, complex flavour, and combined with the chai spices, it’s just divine.
 Actually, I think Baz said it best in Chapter 18 of Holding Out For a Hero:
I try to maintain my scowl, but Simon literally feeds me a piece of scone, and I’m reduced to a pile of mush. This is humiliating.
“What do you think?” he asks.
I never understood when people used the term foodgasm, but I do now—the flavours are all melding together in my mouth. This scone is pure ecstasy.
“What the fuck is in this, Snow? Drugs? Magic?”
Simon’s eyebrows knit together. “Brown butter and chai spices,” he says earnestly.
I could kiss him. I could kiss this scone.
“This,” I say, holding up the scone. “This is why I date you.”

They’re definitely magic.
I completely imagined these up for the chapter, but then I started getting requests for the recipe -- which didn’t exist! 😂 Luckily these turned out fantastic, so this recipe is a winner.
The brown butter flavour requires some planning ahead and a time commitment, but it’s WORTH IT. If you’ve never had brown butter, just imagine butter, except it’s made of toffee and happiness. That’s it, that’s the whole thing.
I’ve included some weight measurements in the recipe this time for exactness!

RECIPE
BROWN BUTTER CHAI SCONES
Makes: 6 scones
**Requires some planning ahead: about 12 hours in advance!**
Ingredients:
1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour - 180g
¼ cup sugar - 40g
¼ teaspoon salt 
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 chai tea bag, or approx 1 tablespoon chai spices
4 tablespoons brown butter, COLD -- must make in advance!
⅓ cup heavy cream, plus extra for brushing - 80g + extra
1 large egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Several hours before you want to make the scones, make brown butter. Take about 8 tablespoons of butter, or one stick, and melt it over low heat in a pot. Continue melting, stirring occasionally, until the butter turns brown and fragrant. The volume should reduce by about ⅓. Remove from heat and mix well so that the butter and milk solids are combined. Line a container with parchment paper and spoon in four tablespoons of the brown butter, then place it in the fridge until fully solid. If you have extra brown butter, you can use it for other desserts. Click here for a full brown butter tutorial.
Preheat the oven to 400ºF (205ºC).
In a bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, salt, chai, baking soda, and baking powder.
Cut the brown butter into squares and add it to the flour mixture. Work the butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter, forks or knives, or your hands. It should be evenly distributed in pieces the size of peas.
Whisk together the egg yolk, vanilla, and heavy cream in a separate bowl. Pour it into the dry ingredients and incorporate using a spatula. The dough should be shaggy but not too dry.
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and shape it into a circle about an inch thick. Cut six triangles.
Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top of each piece with heavy cream.
Bake for 13-15 minutes, until the scones are golden brown on the edges and a toothpick comes out clean. Enjoy!

Melt the butter on low heat. Be patient and keep at it until it turns brown!

Lining the container with parchment makes it easy to get the butter out once it’s solidified.
The next morning, or whenever you want scones: get your ingredients!

Mix together all the dry ingredients. If you’re using a teabag, just cut it open and pour it in. I wouldn’t recommend using loose leaf tea, since the leaves tend to be a bit larger.

Cut your butter. Since the water content in this butter has been cooked off, it was harder to incorporate. I still used my hands but you can definitely use a pastry cutter or some other tool if you wish!

Add the wet ingredients and mix it up. The texture shown below is slightly dry and I had to add another teaspoon or so of cream to make the dough come together.

Pour it out onto the counter and push it all together with your hands.

Cut it into six pieces and arrange them on the baking sheet.

Brush the tops with heavy cream. Don’t skip this - it’s heavenly and makes the texture *chefs kiss* perfect.

Matcha Mix Boba and Raisins Milk Tea

Location: Foody Mart
Price: $3 for 2 (they were doing a promotion for them because the lot were close to expiring. The second time I went, it was down to $0.99 for one. And now that I’ve had it, I understand why)
I had to literally unearth the instructions of how to make it. I know it’s straightforward in theory; just put everything, add hot water, and stir, but mom said maybe the raisins go on top, and she was wrong, which goes to show maybe don’t put your supermarket foreign import promotion sticker on top of the instructions. In the end, I was right, and you just pour everything in with hot water and stir. At first I was tempted to leave the raisins out because I can’t imagine how it’ll mix well, but in the end I put it in for that exact reason. Adventurous drinker, me, even if this blog is literal evidence to the contrary and I end up drinking the same things all the time. 
Immediately after opening the matcha packet, a waft of green tea sweetness careened towards me, which was unexpected. Not that the existence of a smell itself is surprising, but how it smelled. It’s so sweet. None of that matcha hint of bitterness, and it makes me think it was processed a lot with, if I had to guess (I’m not reading the ingredients), sugar and milk powder. The tapioca came out in a huge gloop stuck together, which y’know. Figures. And the raisins smelled clearly of raisins. I’m excited to know how it’ll taste in matcha milk tea.
I also immediately broke the straw, I think, upon opening, because if this isn’t broken then it requires some high level reconstructive surgery little baby unskilled Casey is not qualified for. Thankfully, I had a bubble tea straw left over from yesterday’s drinks, and there’s even a green one to match! It’s the little things.
There’s a cold option, an iced option to drink this that is just. Add ice after you stir, but given that I take hours to drink anything anyway (I tend to savour) I think temperature will not be an issue for me. Also I don’t want to dilute it. Yeah. That’s the reason. I’m a tea purist. Oh! And there’s a flap on the side of the cup that reveals a QR code for a prize. But this seems to be a china drink and I’m not in the china right now, so. I don’t know who that guy on the cup is. He looks like every other boy idol.
It smells. I guess pretty good? I get that it’s matcha. But like. Really. Uh. I guess it’s clear it came from something processed? Mixed with the strong scent of dried raisins. I poured a little evaporated milk in it, as a firm believer that most drinks would benefit from a little bit of evap milky.
I’m going to forego the straw for this first sip to just get a sense of the matcha tea itself, and also not to scald my tongue. Oh god, it’s sweet. And for all the green you see, the matcha taste itself is surprisingly lacking. It’s just. Sweet milk with a tinge of residue matcha flavour. Nowhere is the bittersweet, earthy scent of matcha. Maybe it’ll work with the tapioca and raisins? Nope. Not really. It feels less harmonic convergence (ha) and more I plopped some raisins into a drink and sometimes it comes up and I have to bite and chew it and by the time I’m done the drink is gone. It’s not the soft, mochi consistency of tapioca either, which works with bubble tea because it is itself sweet, and chewy, the texture smooth and seamless with tea. This is clearly just two distinct properties refusing to mix. I guess if you like the individual taste of matcha tea and raisin, and want to eat them together without sacrificing either taste or texture of both, this is it? For some reason the tapiocas aren’t coming up the straw, or maybe it is and they just also taste like raisins now. I haven’t been this confused over a drink since I had London Fog for the first time (Side note: mom just yelled at my brother for disturbing her, causing her to lose the fish she was catching on animal crossing new horizons). I’m almost done with the drink at this point and still can’t tell if I had tapiocas yet. Oh! I’ve realised why! The tapiocas are still in one giant conglomerate mass at the bottom of the cup, resisting the hot water’s attempt to separate! That’s not going to go well now that I’ve finished most of the drink! How fun! Okay, I poked at chunks of it with my straw, but it’s being evasive, so I fished out a chunk and just popped it in my mouth. It tastes... bad. Largely plain, with the raisin flavour contaminating it, I think - I hope - making it also a bit sour, and not that it was always sour. Not chewy enough. Reminiscent of wet cardboard. It’s blandly sour, texture very average, overall disappointing mouthfeel and taste. I’m no tapioca expert, but from experience, tapioca is supposed to be sweet, and chewy, and enjoyable. This is sad. I’m sad. One upside though: drinking the tea after that debacle is a whole palette cleanser. The pearls are so defected (ha) it’s making the sub par drink desirable. Maybe next time (I have one left, not me going out during a pandemic to buy another one of these) I’ll skip out on the raisins. Perhaps the plan was that, the sourness of the raisins would heighten the sweetness of the drink? But the drink is so sweet already (it does, however, mellow out at the bottom) it just feels like a clash of titans. Where’s the compromise? Why we gotta fight all the time?
By physically scooping it in my mouth, I managed to taste all three elements at once, as I suspect it’s supposed to be drunk. It’s... not good. Hahahaha
Is this why they offer a prize for drinking this? Consolation?
I’m going to give up on the toppings. I’m not going to try to eat them. I don’t know what’s happening
I’ve been periodically staring into the void processing these flavours. I don’t know what’s happening
I am actively barring the raisins and tapioca from entering the straw. They are banned. No mercy, only justice.
The delicate art of incorporating raisins into drinks well still eludes us. I do not know when the day will come, or if the day will even be welcome. But I do know one thing: when we finally work out how to mix raisins well in bubble tea, humanity will be closer to the stars, if not among them. The enlightenment will be at hand.

I’m not putting the raisins in this time. Also, after more carefully excavating the straw out of its plastic embalmment, I can now confirm that I had broke it last time by ripping it out too hard and detached the two parts. I think this time the tapioca should be more dissolved.
It is so much better. Uninterrupted sweetness.
Kathy: You can put fruits in milk tea, but I think what’s weird, is that raisins are dehydrated, and now you’re putting them back in liquid

Zen can appreciate a good cup of coffee.
He sometimes drinks a cup in the morning if he needs a pick me up.

And she does like tea as well. 
She mostly drinks it at night, on days she doesn’t have to pull an all-nighter for work.

Oh boy are you in luck.
Jumin also enjoys tea. 
(It’s his second favourite drink, after wine, of course.)
And when Jumin loves something that means he becomes obsessive an expert in it. 
He knows where to get the best brands for each type of tea.
(Do you prefer light or dark oolong tea, he asks you. He personally prefers dark, but if you like light there’s a specific kind he’s read wonderful reviews of that he can get imported for you.)
He also has memorized perfect amount of time to brew any type of tea, down to the exact second. 
He personally prefers his tea black, but if you like anything in yours you can guarantee he’ll remember and get it perfect every time. 
He also really likes reading which teas pair best with specific foods.
(Did you know oolong tea pairs well with pancakes?
He does.
It works well since it’s one of the few things he knows how to cook himself.)

He will drink anything that gives him the energy to work all night
His caffeinated drink of choice is Dr. Pepper, of course. 
Even though it has less caffeine than coffee. That just means he has to drink more of it! 
For every cup of coffee Jaehee drinks, he has to drink 3.465 cups of PhD. Pepper.

If he really needs the caffeine he can just drink Red Bull Bear
(It’s his favourite because of the potential for “Red Bull Bear gives you wings” jokes)
He’s not the biggest fan of tea? 
He’s sowwy >.
He’ll drink it if he has to. Like with coffee, he has to add enough sugar to mask the bitterness though.
But he likes feeling included so when you’re drinking your tea
He pours PhD Pepper into a pretty floral tea cup to drink with you.
He just sits there with you slowly sipping it. Pinky out, of course. 
He’s grinning the entire time.
Saeran:
Please do not give the anxious fluff ball anything with caffeine
The first time he drank it his heart sped up and he felt shaky and sick and he thought he was going to die.
He also hates the taste of coffee? It’s too bitter. 
And if he wanted something hot and sweet why would he bother trying to drown the bitter gross drink in sugar to make it tolerable when he could just drink something that actually tastes good, like hot chocolate?
And if he needs the caffeine to help him stay awake all night, he can just take caffeine pills for the Convenience™
(Even back in Mint Eye, the caffeine made him anxious and miserable and shaky but it kept him from falling asleep, so)
Now that he’s learning he doesn’t have to suffer and do things that make him miserable, he avoids caffeine altogether.
Tea, though, tea is nice. (Herbal teas, at least.)
Tea doesn’t try to kill you
His favourites are anything fruity and naturally sweet.
He’s open to trying new kinds though. You guys can share your favourites!
If you really want to make him happy, invite him over for tea.
It’s such a stereotypically “normal” thing, in his mind. He’s never been over to someone’s place for tea. He’d love it. 
All he wants is a fancy tea party with little cakes just let him have a tea party please

But when he finds out you like it, you can guarantee he will support you.
Both emotionally and financially. 
Sometimes he chooses to drink wine instead of tea, but he always tries to sit down and drink with you at least once during the day.

And he will buy you all the teas you want. And more.
Seriously, this boy is loaded with both money and with adoration for you. You are going to have so many fancy teas. 
You’re going to need entire cupboards for the amount of tea this man will buy you I’m not even kidding.

They like their coffee like their soul: dark and bitter.
…But tea’s nice too.
They’ll drink pretty much anything you put in their hands tbh?

Now that they’re in a place where they can relax and enjoy life more, they like taking time and paying close attention to the details of flavours.
Their favourite so far is lapsang souchong. There’s something they like about that smoky taste.

Do You Have A Summer Secret? I Do.
Hello! Good to be back writing after a long rest in the mountains. I hope you too, have enjoyed some time in your favourite place this summer.
As you know, the best things in life are free, simple, and found in everyday experiences. Do you start each day by looking out the window at the sky? Then there’s the scent of the tea or coffee you prepare, or the crunch of cold cereal if that’s your preference. Infinite possibilities follow. Sleeping in! Dancing! Bare feet in warm sand! These small things deliver such big doses of joy, don’t they?
And then there’s wild berry picking. What would life be like without wild berry picking?
Okay, this one may not be on every person’s list of essential free and simple things. Picking wild berries does take some effort and can be uncomfortable. This kind of thing can perhaps be a separate category – ‘Free and Simple Things That Take Work’. Cleaning the car, weeding a garden, climbing a mountain. These are all ‘small’ things that go on somewhere every day, yet think of all the effort they require. Then think of the deep feeling of satisfaction when you look at your car or garden, or take in the view from the summit.
 For me, it’s the same with wild berry picking.
Every summer I look for and pick wild berries, and this year, in BC, I hit the jackpot. There were many easy pickings, huckleberries, several varieties of blueberries, red raspberries, black raspberries (that was a new one for me), cranberries, gooseberries, currants. I felt like I was in the Jam Berry book I used to read to my kids. In that story there was a bear of course, devouring berries of every colour and flavour, often while lounging on its’ back or planted on its’ behind in a bush dripping with berries. Which in truth is not at all like the real experience. That bear was never swatting at mosquitoes, dripping in sweat, or swearing at the thorns scraping its’ arms.
Sweat, mosquitoes, and thorns. That was my finale experience in berry picking this summer, because I was after my all time favourite: wild blackberries.
About wild blackberries. There is not a single word in the English language that can properly describe the taste of a truly ripe wild blackberry found in B.C’s west Kootenays. It is a flavour like no other. The only other taste I have ever experienced that comes within range is port. Imagine a lively youthful port infused with sunshine and crisp mountain air scented with fir, cedar, and cold lake water. You see?  You must taste them. There is no other way.
We were in a campground at the south end of a lake in the Kootenays. I cannot find the strength to overcome my selfish desire to keep the exact location to myself. You see, this campground, as it turned out, is at the centre of the wild blackberry universe, and all serious wild berry pickers have this particular flaw of not wanting to share. It’s like the cook that won’t give out the recipe for her famous meatloaf, or homemade pickles. It’s awful, I know. I’m sorry. (My spaghetti sauce is pretty popular, I’ll give you my recipe if you want.)
Wild blackberry patches were scattered throughout the campground, I even had my own private patch right in my campsite. Eating a few ripe berries each morning picked just outside my camper door elevated my stay in this campground to a level previously unknown in my camping experience.
When Rogerio and I found the mother patch, loaded with tens of thousands of berries spreading beyond the boundary of the campground at least fifty metres along a low ridge above the lake shore - I was launched into a state of nirvana. “How lucky can we get!?” I said to Rogerio. “Look at this! Look look look!”
Once I had recovered, I made a critical assessment of the patch. “This will need one big session of picking before we leave,” I told Rogerio. “The berries are close, but not quite, at peak ripeness.”
In the meantime, each morning, I tested the berries in ‘my’ patch, picking only those that had hit that soft, squishy point that meant the port like juices inside were present. There were always more than enough for eating on the spot, and mashing a few on toast and sprinkling with sugar. Oh my God I’m salivating now just thinking of it.
On our last morning at this most generous berry studded campground, I prepared to tackle the mother lode. Jeans, leather boots (old ankle ones for cold camping days), and Rogerio’s heavy nylon jacket, the material strong enough to resist the blackberries defensive thorns which, on the more mature canes, could easily puncture an eye or carve a quarter inch deep trench in exposed skin. I don’t know why blackberry bushes have evolved such wicked thorns, but I suspect it has to do with the other animal that delights in these berries – I’m speaking of bears, of course.
I grabbed my largest bowl and headed out, early enough I hoped to avoid overheating. We were enjoying great summer temperatures, around 30 every day.
As I arrived at the centre of the universe, I noticed all the easy pickings were gone. Locals had been coming down in the evenings, cleaning off the berries within reach. The bears too had been feasting, I had stepped over large plops of seedy poop on the trail. But I wasn’t concerned, the patch, as I mentioned, was enormous.
I assessed my options before settling on one area where the canes reached seven or eight feet high before arching, as blackberry brambles do. The locals, or more likely the bears, had created tunnels through the brambles but even inside those, most easy pickings were gone. However, in the middle of the canes and leaves and thorns dangled big beautiful blackberries, ripe to the point of glistening.
I had to have some. I would have to break new ground.
I examined the nearest high arched cane, then chose a spot between thorns and pinched the branch between thumb and forefinger. Firmly I pulled the cane up and sideways, then down toward the ground which was buried under old dry canes. I repeated this technique until the clusters of berries below were exposed. Next, I had to execute some martial art type kicks into the brambles at waist level and below, in order to create a reasonably safe space in which to maneuver my body.
Ten minutes of this assault on the canes and I was ready. Leaning into and onto the mass of brambles, I stretched up and forward, positioned my bowl under a bunch of berries, and with my free hand began testing each berry for ripeness before tapping or gently coaxing each chosen berry into the bowl.
Yes, this is hard and dangerous work. But it’s worth it!
Two and a half hours later, I had tackled those brambles in this fashion from three or four different angles and had the bowl of berries you see above, and naturally, a few more had already gone down the hatch. Is that all, you say? Don’t laugh! I was ecstatic with my haul! Every single berry was fully ripe and promised a transcendental experience to my taste buds.
Drenched in perspiration, hands and wrists scratched and studded with the tiny thorns that hide on the backs of the blackberry leaves, (Rogerio suggested gloves but bare fingers are required to test each berry for ripeness), I walked back to our campsite, repeating over and over the mantra I had said throughout the entire picking session: Don’t drop the bowl. Don’t drop the bowl.
I got the berries safely back to our campsite, where Rogerio was waiting. “Taste! Taste! Take any berry, every single one is perfect!” We sat down in the sun and luxuriated in my bowl of treasures. Then, before it was too late, I made jam for pancakes for the grandsons, saving enough berries for Rogerio and I for the next couple of mornings. That’s about as long as they would last. Great delicacies are, well, delicate.
So, I have found blackberry paradise. Blackberry bliss. The location of which is my biggest summer secret.  However, if you are equally passionate about wild blackberries and feel you absolutely must know the location of this campground, write me a note. I can be persuaded.
