as a guy that loves getting into obscure media that like. maybe 5 people talk about now. it is interesting the difference between consuming media that is SUPER popular and everyone loves your fave (a curse i would never wish upon anyone. the posts will never be good) and a media that like. there is NO ONE actively posting about. it has barely any fan presence online. and honestly its kind of peaceful

im going to be honest the "character playlists aren't what i think the character would listen to, it's songs that remind me of them" post does not sway me. i make playlists for my OCs. i do the same thing. but i don't care what the contents of the song individual song in question is, i simply cannot associate a punk/metalhead/emo/edgy/whatever character with a taylor swift song. playlists must also be about vibe. surely there are songs with a similar theme that are also not by her. class dismissed

#i'll sometimes look at character playlists out of curiosity. sometimes i find new and good songs. but #i'll go into a playlist and sometimes it'll be like 50% swift songs and im like. ok well. there are other artists. surely you can find one #(me naively looking into a playlist for a punk character): boy i sure hope theres punk music and not mainstream pop artists again #maybe its because im not picky on music? when making playlists i usually try to stick to ones that remind me of them and fit vibe #jeff gets mainly violent metal/synth/assorted electronic because i think it fits him the most. though some songs divert #cassian has assorted acoustic/folk music. usually ones related to death/hunting/weird shit #rhys has more chaotic or 'fun' music that tells a story. think tom cardy's smokin joe.#like guys come on get a little creative. it doesnt have to be perfect but you can make some neat and distinctive char playlists--#-- by just varying your song and artist selections a tiny bit #dont even need to be super strict!#but i swear to god if im in a tag or a twit thread one more time and look at a playlist and its fucking hayloft mother mother...#youd think im exaggerating. but if youve ever been in the playlists. youd know. you would understand

sellbot cog redesigns!!!! :D thought process + extra design deets under the cut! (waning: its very long LOL)

cold caller: loosely based off of their tto trading card! rotary phone because uhhh. duh they call people, big pointy nose resembles icicle, elongated eyes / eye scopes? idk lol resemble allan. the shape of the receiver is supposed to resemble earmuffs almost? + little teefies

telemarketer: this is probably the most. vague design LOL but they're an auto-dialing machine! specifically based off of the one from the simpsons coz it.. felt fitting idk. i definitely took some liberties but they have a speaker mouth, an indicator bulb for a nose, and the cassette portion is their eye ^_^

name dropper: this was one of the harder names to translate into a design since it doesnt have any ties to any physical items / ideas? so i ended up just building upon their base design. the glasses and bun give them an uptight secretary vibe + gave them more droopy features such as a longer nose and hoop earrings to replace the old ones

glad hander: not much to say about this one. HAND!!!!! my original redesign for this had their eyes on their palm while the fingers sat on top but. idk. it felt more fitting for their hand to be in a fist while the eyes were on the fingers. it makes their middle finger look like a nose

mover & shaker: shaker -> salt & pepper shakers. ez pz. the lids look like little hats too

two face: this was a little tricky coz i like the double face look they originally had. but double talker already has that model and i think it fits them much more than it does two face. i cycled through a few different ideas but eventually ended up with this, inspired by the mayor from the nightmare before christmas & the way his head operates :P

mingler: nothing changed. literally perfect. mingler is peak cog design. just tweaked their colors and gave them a stronger head + hair shape that stands out against the others

mr. hollywood: same with name dropper & mingler, they have a vague name thats hard to interpret BUT the og design was already so good there wasn't much to change Anyways. i was subconsciously inspired by Something while designing them but i dont know what, i guess 50s celebrities? also inspired by ernesto de la cruz from coco!

as a general rule of thumb: i stuck to the same color palette for all of these designs (except for the blue in cold caller & two face. obviously) in order to communicate the fact that they're from the same department. for the more human cogs i tried to separate different parts of the head using color & lines (forehead, cheekbones, chin, nose, etc) in order to give them a subtle robotic look but you can't really see it lol... i tried to keep their GENERAL head shapes but some of them wandered a little far

+ i actually made palettes for all of the cog departments to work on if i ever want to make more redesigns! i'll stick them here since they're on topic

Wukong has Disney Princess-level animal magnetism. But especially towards Horses. Sun Wukong is barred from most derbies/tracks cus if he walks in, all the race horses will immediately trot over happily cus "The Bimawen is here!!" And he'll happily jump the fence to give every horse a petting. And yeah almost all wild animals (save apex predators) just feel happy around him.

Even if he was considered an Outsider to the original Monkey demon troop, he was adored by the infants he cared for. If Sun Wukong is the honorary "Grandfather/Yeye/Waigong Sun" (as said in JttW) to all monkey demons, then Macaque is "Grandmother/Nainai/Zumu Liu'er". Sandy ofc loves cats and has similar Disney Princess-energy towards wild animals as seen in "To Catch a Leaf". Also tarantulas - you know why.

Pigsy claims to hate animals, but he folds if a cat or dog even headbutts him. Makes a million excuses why he doesnt run off the alley cats the hang out outside the restaurant. ("They're good for pest control.", "Leftovers gotta go somewhere.", "Tang you're petting one right now." Etc).

Tang loves animals like cats, but its a 50/50 if they'll even indulge him. I hc that he's a little scared of dogs and large birds (cicada instincts), but will pet a friendly good boi if they make a good first impression. Thinks pet bugs are really neat and underrated (Pigsy has banned him from getting any).

MK loves dogs. He is pure dog loving energy. Will look at an immortal celestial warhound and ask "Who's a good boy?" and he'll most likely get a tail wagging. Also thinks turtles are mega cool.

Mei I hc wasn't allowed pets in the Long/Dragon household, so she can be over-enthusiastic when meeting new critters, and gets sad when they scurry off startled. Wukong has been teaching her some of his old Bimawen tactics though, since she really loves horses (literal horse girl energy) and was def the little girl who asked for a pony every birthday.

Red Son is def a lizard/bird parent. I love the hc that his fave animals are chickens, and could def see him having a loose hen in the palace (wearing hygenic birdy pants ofc). He also seems like he'd vibe with desert/hot climate reptiles who see him as a heat lamp. Towards cattle and big farm animals tho? His territorial bull instincts flare up and starts picking fights.

Nezha likes snakes. Don't look too deep into it. (They remind him of Ao Bing). Thinks cats and dogs are overrated.

Bai He. Cats cats cats! She loves them in all their forms. Big, small, fluffy, sphinx! Like Mei she can be over-enthusiastic, and often gets scratched/bitten by street animals she tries to befriend. Big cats seem to like her for some reason.

+Bonus au character: Chenxiang loves birds. Especially water birds. They remind him of his very early childhood when ducks, geese, and crane would follow him and his mother while lotus harvesting. Will not stand for goose slander. Will get swarmed by flocks of birds if left alone in a public park.

-Modern AU, they are like Shaun and Ryan from Buzzfeed Unsolved with a mix of Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo thrown in. Lots of hijinks and breaking into restricted and or forbidden areas. Sometimes they are actually solving cases, other times they broke into a gas station left to rot from the 1980s because Alice swears she saw something in there and it results with Norton rushing Alice to the doctors because she ate expired Cosmic Brownies. -Fantasy AU, Norton is the king of the demon realm, and Alice is the queen of Paradis (the one seen in LG and Orpheus's essences). Their kingdoms have tension with each other. Orpheus the Novelist urges war while Nightmare (yes they are two separate people). Alice however is like "Nah, imma talk to the king" and goes to the demon realm, so the two can work on some sort of peace treaty. Nonsense ensues and the two slowly fall in love, it ending with Norton asking for Alice's hang in marriage, which at first she thinks its so their kingdoms dont fight and his response being "...no you dumbass i love you. Thats why im asking to marry me"

Oletus Manor Doesnt Happen AU, aka what if Norton and Alice never went to the manor but still met each other. Can imagine its because Alice is doing a report on Golden Caves, what happened, why it shut down and interviews Norton, the only survivor from the accident. The two just seem to click and neither know why. Norton at the start tries to use this to his own personal gain, since in his state, he knows damn good and well, he will not be able to get a job again, forcing him in poverty so he tries to butter up Alice, get close to her in the hopes maybe he can marry into money. Alice also tries to use this connection to her advantage, hoping Norton's ties to the mining industry can give her access to more secretive information (like how they treat their workers). They do end up falling love properly though, and Alice uses the money from her family to help push Norton out of poverty and help him start a small jewelry business with the only catch being "Before you even dare spend a penny on clothes or luxurious things, I want you to spend the money I give you to go see a doctor in the chance to save yourself. I care too much about you Norton". Which in turn breaks Norton, but like a good break, like a "Holy fuck, she really does love/care about me, this wasn't an act, i wasnt dumb to let her into my life"

hi i wanna talk about Skinamarink because its really good and i liked it and wanna say why.

best way i can describe it is, a sort of "analog horror" [kinda, in some ways] movie, mixed with the themes of Anatomy and the director's, Kyle Edward Ball, previous made short film Heck [which i still need to watch but from what im seeing its extremely similar].

it is very, very, VERY experimental. and follows a very specific format of filming and camera placement, which Ball uses throughout all of his short films, way before Youtube got very obsessed with using VHS in horror stuff again, really only using it in things similar to Jack Stauber.

the story. its not that its unclear or even confusing, more of just its a case of you dont understand why its all happening. but not in the way of "ugh why did they need to put that into the story thats so unnecessary" but in a "i dont know what they did to have to go through this and its not fair to them" way. it also factors in a big fear of the unknown. not only do you not know what its motives are, but you have no idea what it even IS. and why its able to do the things it does.

also, it genuinely does feel like it takes place in 1995, because its not an over the top version of the aesthetic. they dont show a lot of funky colors or have the vibe of "oh the 90s was such an amazing time for any person living through it and everyone was an innocent soul before the events of the story happened". its actually realistic and even shows a family life that wasnt the best, and had a lot going on with it behind the scenes.

think of the whole movie as like Begotten, but without the gore, the sexual/assault scenes, the characters could talk, its not in black and white, and whenever the characters do something you never see them fully directly and sometimes you get just the audio of what theyre doing. that and they both have budgets in the ten thousands.

i think also it really does a good job of putting you in the shoes of a child that is clearly scared but also doesnt understand whats going on and pretty much has no idea what to do, and have no other options besides waiting and hoping for the best. i'd say the only thing that people who really like these types of movies might have a 50/50 perspective on amongst themselves is the 2 to 3 jumpscares within the film. i liked them but also i personally have a preference for subtle atmospheric horror, and i did have moments where i had to use something on my desk to cover my vision slightly because i didnt want to get jumpscared again.

but yeah if this movie sounds like something you'd like then its worth a shot and honestly this might be the first time i go to see a horror movie in theaters when i get the chance.

also if you dont mind gore and some sexual themes/assault themes then you should really check out Begotten, and if you dont mind things like torture and mind breaking too then also look into Martrys [2008] if you really wanna see something based on philosophical perspectives and how desperate people are to learn more about humanity.

idfk anymoreee its so weird to think that some 5/6/7 years ago kpop was just gaining popularity and obvi bts and blackpink and nct were go to groups now theres hundreds of them but theyre all like 99 or 00 liners and im like yeah noooo not "stanning" them for me. ik they wouldnt particularly judge older fans bc musics for any age but even so ngl its fucking weird like why cant there be more older groups too or they just going to disband and or retire or go into the military? san in military uniform... n im dead.

i think the thing i like about ateez they do have a rebel punky look to them like they look like villains from a kdrama or general bad boys on stage its so cool, different n hot at the same time, other groups should take some notes. i think newer kpop groups going to struggle vocally anywah cause every song got to have clean performance

mamamoo are so great cause they sing so well and they have minimal dancing which is nice compared to newer girl groups where its all dance glitz and glam or they look dainty and doll like, it sometimes isnt really relatable imho. it just doesnt hold my interest in them fully cause its not my personal taste or again their age might be lack in experience if any of this makes sense? i cant get a time machine and go back to the 50s and the only other relevant music nowadays is kpop so either they should bring more variety or i will eventually forget about kpop cause its always the samey tiktok stuff

GOT CANCER. WENT SEPTIC. ALMOST DIED. the single most influential event of my LIFE this is why i am so patient and like positive or whatever bc literally nothing is worse than almost dying. that shit SUCKED. anyway i knew i wanted to do SOMETHING in oncology but it took me years to even begin processing that shit and i worked FOR YEARS after in a meangirls viper pit i refer to exclusively as babyhell (daycare (derogatory)) so it took me a hot minute to really figure myself out.

DISCLAIMER that i am the kinda person who makes life choices QUICK AS SHIT bc i know myself really well and i have a pretty good sense of what i want. idk if u can tell but im a v fast pace kind of person so when i decided to become a nurse it was in like a 5min stretch of Thinking and then i was just like Yeah this is It. my RAPID FIRE thought process in those 5 min was basically is this a field where my personal attributes and experiences can make a positive impact on other ppl?? the answer was YES. i also thought CAN I MAKE MONEY?? the answer here was ALSO yes. TWO BIRDS, A SINGLE STONE.

in baby hell i WAS making positive impacts on kiddos and their families (several families left when i left bc of how much they trusted me blah blah) but like it was NOT rewarding to me. too much stress too little payoff bc i love kids but they arent my PASSION u feel?? ALSO pay was TRASH GARBO. ANYWAY when i thought abt working w cancer patients or people who i could relate to in terms of life/traumatic medical experiences it was something i immediately vibed w bc i knew that common ground could facilitate meaningful therapeutic interactions in an otherwise massively stressful environment.

for me, personally, its a matter of giving back. my oncology nurses fucking ROCKED and made me feel like a person during a time where even well meaning ppl reduced me to a pitiable diagnosis they could use to fuel their tragedy porn. i wanna PAY THAT SHIT FORWARD, so even working medsurg, the most NOTORIOUSLY MISERABLE AND SOUL SUCKING type of nursing there is (memes abt medsurg nurses wishing for death or being dead inside or crying every shift are TOO REAL) i still dont regret becoming a nurse and still find meaning and satisfaction in it even during shifts that make me feel batshit miserable and soul sucked.

choosing a Job or a Career doesnt need to hinge on WORTHINESS or POSITIVE IMPACT or whatever, ig its like what you find fulfilling!! and also not necessarily what youre GOOD at (eg a lot of GOOD AT DRAWS ppl go into art/ani industry and fucking LOATHE it every day. this is why i did not go to art skool). theres that pressure that u gotta figure urself out young as fuck blah blah etc but life can be long!!! you can go turtle pace. there were several 50-60+yos in my nurse school cohort!!

i am trying not to get soapbox pep talky here. anyway i only am an insane fast track nutbag bc i almost died, so basically thats how i make all my life choices.
