So, starscream's Prophecy... got any thoughts on it?

OOOH okay this ones fun!

so i do have a few thoughts on this and theyre kind of disjointed so to help me think im gonna jenny nicholson this bitch and use a delightful numbered list.

the narrative explanation - so basically in-universe the dark cybertron prophecy is, eventually, revealed to be complete bullshit. shockwave made it up in a paradox-induced scheme and it was all, from the titan's announcement to the "you're the devil reincarnated", designed artificially to get starscream to do what shockwave wanted. this is boring!

why is it boring - mostly because it would have much more interesting implications if the "true meaning" for the prophecies was left more ambiguous. There's something really interesting about the sort of contradictory nature of the prophecies, because over the course of phase 2 Starscream is formally delivered 3 different declarations, and all of them both compound on and contradict each other. Starscream is the chosen one to raise Cybertron from darkness, Starscream is the harbinger of Cybertron's doom, and Starscream is the literal reincarnate of like, the actual devil. And every single time, she just kind of rolls with it, as do most other people. She says she doesn't buy it, but a lot of her behaviour and dialogue suggest otherwise, and by the time the third one comes around shes just kind of done pretending and basically is just like "yeah sure, sounds right". And i think that adds an interesting element to her character, especially with where we left her late phase 1, clinging to the matrix and the lie that it chose him. I think starscream has this particular sense of desperation mixed with insecurity mixed with delusion that makes him sort of need to feel important, and whether that means being the worst of the worst or being everybodies hero, she just kind of describes it as knowing he's cosmically important, and i think that can make a lot of the inconsistencies in his character sort of smooth out and create a more complete kind of person. 2.5 some things can just be magic - i also just think the need for everything to have an explanation or be tied up really is a weakness in barber's half of phase 2, its just really not compelling to be like these cool mystical elements and ancient prophecies actually didnt mean anything. it also imo just kind of stinks of edgy atheist ideology where all religion is bullshit - and while that works for the exrid parts focused on Optimus, Pyra, and others and the discussion of corruption in religious icons and what it means to have faith and where the line between religion and politics blurs, it kind of falls flat when you look at starscreams half, which focuses much more on introspective character growth and faith in other people and also has a main character who is a ghost soulbound to some other guy so like, why cant we just have scoop genuinely be into some weird religion that's just a weird religion? idk the shockwave paradox in general was rlly boring to me and robbed the story of any compelling or mystical elements it had.

religion continued - i think if starscream's prophecies had been allowed to just be weird ambiguous stuff that may or may not have been signs from god it couldve created a lot of interesting parallels both with optimus and with windblade, who's relationships to religious concepts were both central tenants of their phase 2 roles. especially consdiering starscrseam in phase 1 and her brief tenure as a matrix-bearer and the way she sort of clung to it as a sign that she was important, even if he said he didnt believe in it (the same way optimus does in phase 2), but starscream's parallels to them in this regard just kind of feel half-formed and not really explored in the way they couldve been. like, the ingredients are all there but its just not finished. its like one of those meal prep subscription box things, yknow?

the starbee one - ive talked at length before about how i think the ideas of starscream and bumblebees relationship to the concept of a saviour, a hero, and a sacrifice are really interesting to me - the contension of bee as a saviour-type who offers 2nd chances to badguys and kickstarts redemption arcs (in a weird sort of jesus parallel that was honestly way more apparent in bee than it was in optimus) whereas starscream is viewed both in-universe and on a metanarrative level as a corrupting force - his entire relationship to windblade for the first chunk of their interactions was him trying to pull her to his level, and as a figure in the prophecies starscream is usually viewed as a bad omen, antichrist or devil figure. i think these are all so interesting as concepts but in execution theyre kinda half-formed and again, spoiled by the shockwave paradox 4.5 - BUT that said the ending of unicron did a really fun twist with starscream in that regard and i liked watching her, on her own, decide that it was time to step away from the roles pushed on her and the lies he'd told to others & herself and actually be a hero, and sort of reclaim the "chosen one" thing and actually end up paralleling both bumblebee and opitmus in the noble sacrifice category - and i liked that we left with starscream in a neutral state, not widely loved but no longer deplored as he was around the start of the wb/taao series', and the whole ghost thing as a "rebirth" of sorts kind of ties in with that in an interesting way

tldr - i think it couldve been way better if it was left more ambigious, and i also tihnk it smells a lot of edgy ex-christian atheist worldbuilding while also being really really heavy handed in some of the xtianity parallels, but i like what they do for star as a person specifically in her reactions to and treatment of the prophecies.

Tom mentioned last episode that he had picked these three up from bad places and I have a feeling that Iris was once either an adrenaline junkie, thrill seeker, or involved in something that had her on the run

I don’t know about Rex. I think society just took one look at him and pushed him away because his personality is weird. He’s honest and kind, almost too kind. It don’t help that he doesn’t look traditionally Japanese which will garner him a lot of unpleasant experiences

Those stills are absolutely mesmerizing though.

i love the sense of trust and mentorship between matenro with Jakurai as Hifumi and Doppo’s mentors. At least that’s the feeling I get with them ahaha

Doppo’s english is a bit harsh but also weirdly fits his style. im a bit mixed on it but with the whole song being more melancholic with english sprinkled in, it matches the theme

The song itself is such a mellow and soothing song though. Its different than Maternro’s usual work and its a good different. I love the subway and old timey imagery that came with the song and the image of a subway train lighting up the way to a new path is such a great way of showing that there are different paths and different destinations that one can take. Even if you take the same train, you can end up in a different place. The light imagery in particular is just so good since Ruikawa’s original line of the city being a beacon of light for him is mirrored in the song.

The lyrics especially are so soft and powerful with the imagery within the words being simultaneously rough and tumble but also soft and reassuring. It seems more like a lament or a elegy to a life that could have been if they had gotten on a different train. I love the lyrics, especially the chorus since it speaks of mundane things but things that everyone can understand and relate to

it also carries mad Spirited Away vibes. It’s also called Falling which I think is pretty fitting

the only thing that I don’t like about the song Jakurai’s vocal beats within his verse. Usually it works since there’s a big beatboxing feel to those beats but with Jakurai his lyrical rap doesn’t mesh well with the harsh guttural sounds beatboxing

The pain of having one of your few friends betray you hurts and wow this episode is out to make me feel a lot of sympathy for Doppo

I think I’m only noticing this just now but the episode titles are all famous quotes from people/proverbs.

Ep. 1) “As Soon as Man is Born, He Begins to Die“ This is an old proverb. Who said it I don’t know and a quick internet search gave me nothing, but its commonly said to convey the meaning that nothing lasts forever. IDK why this proverb was chosen since there’s no indication of any of the teams disbanding any time soon except for TDD era teams which have already happened

Ep. 2) “Speak of the Devil and He Will Appear“ Again, another old idiom which dates back to the 16th century. This one is probably about Ichiro and how he appears whenever he is called or whenever he is needed. Though it could be a overall commentary on how the brothers are reliable no matter the situation

Ep. 3) “Two Heads Are Better Than One” - John Heywood This quote describes DoHifu pretty well. Its because these two work and rely on each other that they’re able to not only make it through each day but also make each day worth living. Because they help each other, but they’re not the same, they’re better for it. This could also apply to MTR as a whole being a team where each member thinks outside the box and their ideas collectively make such an interesting team

Ep. 4) “A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed” This one is an 11th century proverb which explains that in times of need, true friends will show their colors. That's the main mentality behind MTC though I believe that it applies to Rio in particular for this episode. While the entirety of MTC are willing to help each other in times of need, in this episode it mainly focused on Samatoki and Rio’s plights and how the members as a whole show that they are all true friends to each other

Ep. 5) “Seeing is Believing” The origins of this quote is blurry but there the bible seems to be the origin of this statement believe it or not. While it does fit the episode’s theme of ghosts and how rumor's can harm people and businesses, it doesn’t really describe FP like the other quotes do the other teams. I find it odd, but I hope that FP are redeemed in their next feature episode. FP deserves better and are being done dirty in the anime.

Ep. 6) “He Who Laughs Last, Laughs Best” - The Christmas Prince. I think this one is pretty nice in describing not only the episode but the series as a whole. It doesn’t matter who’s winning in the begging, or the middle. The final outcome is what really matters. It’s pretty apt for the series since even though The Party of Words are winning currently, its who wins by the end of the series that matters. The episode encompasses this pretty well too with the whole plotline.

Ep. 7) “The Darkest Hour is Just Before the Dawn” Dating back to 1950 ish, this one carries the simple There is hope in the worst circumstances message. Again, its pretty suitable for the series as a whole since the Party of Words might be making life harsh, but there’s still hope to be found in the world.

Ep. 8) “Dead men tell no tales” - Thomas Becon. NGL, this one scares me because it can either apply to MTC, or the universe as a whole. We’ll just have to wait till next week to know for sure but i think we’ll get some Jyuto angst with his parents

hetalia characters as tarot major arcana! (part 1)

(disclaimer my word is not law, this is Just My Opinion. part of the fun of tarot is that it can mean different things to different people)

part 2 part 3

yes I’m making this because I’m a big secular tarot nerd and I need to fill my own niche. I will be addressing common misconceptions bc that is my biggest pet peeve lmao. I also love it when the actual meaning of the card is explored, including the different aspects/shades/contexts... so here are the first 7!

0 The Fool: N. Italy.

if we look past the usual hetare/foolish/dumb/whatever everyone seems to fixate on when it comes to Veneziano, the Fool is actually a perfect card for him. it’s quite a positive card; it indicates going into something headfirst, approaching life with simple joy and optimism, and having a sense of excitement and spontaneity. the fool is about being light and fun and loving the finer things in life! I really feel his history+personality express the mindset of the Fool very well. (and no it doesn’t mean stupid— just naïveté and joy, which is really Italy imo.) [I actually am usually not mad at who people assign the Fool! as long as you don’t just think it means “the idiot”, a lot of the characters in hetalia could reasonably fit I feel... however I think Italy is the best choice and it all just comes together so well :) ]

I The Magician: America.

the key thing to remember here is willpower, something America has in spades. the Magician is all about manifestation, power, and determination. he’s an incredibly active and motivated character, both history and personality wise; if he wants it he’s getting it no matter what. another part of the Magician is having the confidence to trust yourself to achieve, almost a kind of optimism, and America definitely has those vibes. he’s clearly very powerful and very determined, as happy-go-lucky as he may seem. [people often choose the ~magical~ people for this like England and Norway but it’s not about magic, it’s about power! there’s nothing quite as Magician as American Manifest Destiny and all the World Savior shit]

II The High Priestess: Norway.

this is a very feminine card but Norway said fuck gender and he happens to embody it extremely well. the High Priestess is a very subconscious, intuitive, almost magical card, and it’s really about having a deep and complex understanding of your unconscious mind. Norway is a character who’s very in touch with that inner self (through his focus on nature as the representation of a piece of land, his knowledge of history and folklore, his magical and spiritual side, etc.) he can be out of touch with reality and often seems to be operating on a completely different level, which imo is exactly what the High Priestess indicates. she’s all about changing the way you perceive and moving to a higher level of cognition. [lol I feel people just straight up don’t know what this one means. but I’d challenge you to find a character who’s more spiritually/subconsciously in touch than aph Norway.]

III The Empress: Ukraine.

the Empress is another very feminine card and concerns care, nurturing, motherhood, and abundance, all of which describe Ukraine very well. she’s incredibly devoted to her siblings and still cares greatly for them. she’s also really big-hearted and emotionally connected to people, which matches up with this card really well. (also as an agricultural nation the theme of abundance is really going strong for her.) [another one where I feel people just don’t know what it means. there are a lot of motherly characters but I think Ukraine is really the best fit in every aspect of her character and design.]

IV The Emperor: Denmark.

the whole king of Scandinavia thing aside, the Emperor is the opposite of the Empress in that it’s very much about control and authority. Denmark during the Viking era and Kalmar union is a great example of this urge for power, as well as demonstrating the softer, fatherly side of this card (as a father figure to Iceland and a “family leader/big brother” to the Nordics.) his focus on their familial bond also plays into this card very well, along with his stubbornness and magnanimous nature. [this is another one of those cards where a lot of characters could fit it? like I’m not super mad at Prussia/Sweden/etc here, I just think they fit other archetypes better.]

V The Hierophant: China.

he’s one of the oldest nations, and is imo the most superstitious/traditional character; the Hierophant is really about tradition, institutions, and mentorship (big brother to the other Asian countries ya feel). China is family oriented and a little old-fashioned about some things, which for sure matches up with the Hierophant. this card is about following the well-trodden path the right way and relying on a greater system than your own. idk I feel his reliance on luck and superstition evokes this card a lot (though it’s usually associated with religion) [I feel like people just slap in a “strict” character for this which... I mean I love swissaus for this but they just don’t fit very well, the institutional aspect is completely missing. also just bc Romano is religious doesn’t mean he fits this card at all...]

VI The Lovers: Hungary/Austria.

I’ve chosen 2 characters for this because I feel it’s very much about duality, and their relationship demonstrates it perfectly. contrary to what it looks like, the Lovers is not just about romance— rather, it’s about choices and values, especially those that go into relationships. their historical relationship is really interesting and imo evokes the Lovers a lot. why do people choose to be with each other? what about after the spark dies down? how can people reconcile fundamental differences? how do you resolve the past, present, and future? [ppl exclusively choose France for this which really hurts me loool, just because it’s about romance doesn’t mean France will be the best fit. imo France fits a couple other cards better than the Lovers, also I always love having two parties for this card.]

Idea: A pair of adventures inspired by Journey to the West arrive at the tower. By that I mean one is a generally nice person with a nasty habit of being kidnapped, and his guard who is extremely overpowered and extremely impulsive.

Ok, i’ve definitely listened to a summary of that story at least once and doesn’t it involve like, a monkey god king?

(ok i’ve looked it up and ive only heard the first part/introduction of the story adfaf)

After reading a quick summary I can see exactly how this goes down, and again, bc i dont know when i’ll have time to actually write it, I’ll bullet point a summary here and now

idk if Sophia is in this or not. Maybe she is. ACTUALLY YEAH SHE IS

I could make this plot relevant if she is!!

So, clearly there is a Very Important Person with a Very Important Destiny. I will call them Vip, who has of course, the bodyguart you described, I will call them Shomer (which is guard in hebrew). The pair has been on their Epic Journey for a while of course, Vip getting kidnapped and Shomer rescuing them. it’s not super well known yet, but those who need to know, know.

One of those people who Know is Ben of Orr, and welcomes the pair to the Kingdom of Orr with a nice little banquet and stuff (Vip is not royal, but is important kind of like an ambassador for their kingdom as a part fo this), and tells them that as part of the journey, their next stop need to be the Mystic Woods, they are to travel through it. It’s dangerous and will be an excellent challenge.

Ben calls up Yonah and tells Yonah that a pair of Epic Journeyers will be passing through the forest, and Ben will ensure they enter Yonah’s territory. Yonah is to kidnap Vip, and wait for Vip to be rescued. Yes he will be paid for this.

OK THE REST IS UNDER A CUT, THIS GOT LONG, I REALLY LAID OUT THE ENTIRE FUCKING STORY

I can’t really think of a way for the kidnapping to happen so im saying it happens! Yay!

Now Vip is with Yonah and Sophia, and after some formalities they all drop the pretense of hero and villain bc it’s gonna be some time for Shomer to find the tower

In the meantime, Vip just hangs out at the tower for a day (the kidnapping was the previous evening). Bc i love to use the garden, they show off the garden. Vip is probably given some rare specimens unique to the region to bring back

but Yonah and Sophia have like, their normal stuff to do, lessons and stuff. Yonah calls Ben that night to see how Shomer is doing and Ben is just “listen, that’s cheating, go out and see if he’s around, call back tomorrow if you dont find him”

So they do. Next day they do a little patrol, but they dont find him.

But Vip, who has a Very Important Destiny and is a very perceptive, keys into a few things when seeing how Sophia is treated by the forest, and declares that They and Her are alike! They wish her luck with her story, for it will surely be grand. Sophia laughs this off.

But later that night, When Sophia goes to sleep, bc it was a big day for her, Yonah talks to Vip, asking them what they were on about earlier.

Vip says that it’s clear Sophia is special, the forest really likes her, the magic seemed so much more calm in the forest when with her than when they were traveling with Shomer. Yonah has kinda noticed this, but the forest never “liked” Yonah bc Ben doesn’t like Yonah, and has assumed that Ben has been just, getting softer, but what if it’s not Ben, what if it’s the forest itself.

Vip says maybe it’s just bc she’s Ben’s daughter, but they dont know much about the Mystic Woods, their kindgom isn’t an Arcane Territory.

At this point, Shomer arrives! Here to save Vip from the evil giant mage!

There is a fun little fight, Shomer has fought a LOT of monsters and magical people, but Yonah does beat him

and eats him…

This freaks Vip out, surely Yonah wasn’t supposed to kill the guard! that’s not part of the story! Sure sometimes that happens, and new guards are brought in… but… Yonah… he’s not a mindless beast, nor is he an independent villain. He been so personable! So hospitable! They were getting along! Why the fuck would he kill Shomer? (Shomer is very much freaking out)

Yonah is going to explain when Sophia runs in (Sophia woke up to the commotion and runs out to catch the action)

Vip screams at her about Yonah having eaten Shomer!

She’s all angry that she missed out on the fight and didn’t get to see Shomer get eaten.

Vip is now very freaked out, the princess knew Yonah planned on eating Shomer? Yonah had planned this the entire time? And she was OK WITH IT?

Yonah gets control of the room and reveals that he’s not gonna kill Shomer, but it’s always good to take a hero down a peg, a little humility never hurt anyone!

So he spits Shomer back up, Shomer is embarrassed that he “failed” to rescue Vip, but is glad to be alive. Boy he’s… really tired… He’s been running around the forest for TWO DAYS.

So they stay the rest of the night, are resupplied with rations and water, thanking Yonah and Sophia for adding to their Epic!

this will make for a very exciting chapter, once edited out the part where Yonah was just faking it. Instead maybe Yonah was just playing with Vip the whole time, waiting for the guard to show up, and then revealed his true colors! That Vip had to trick or persuade Yonah into spitting Shomer up, maybe even be eaten, but with something that makes Yonah sick! They’ll work it out with some editors.

Sophia goes back to bed after snuggling with Yonah for a bit, maybe with a hot cup of tea. Yonah’s not ready for bed yet.

he calls up Ben one more time. Informing him of the great success! Ben is pleased. But before Ben can hang up, Yonah said he needs to talk to him, it’s about Sophia. Ben asks if something is wrong, Yonah doesn’t think so. But he tells Ben about the observations. Ben frowns. That is unusual, he has not been encouraging the forest to be kind to Sophia at all, he tries a moment to connect to the forest about this, but it’s being fickle. He tells Yonah that they will need to keep an eye on this developing situation.

(which is of course THE START TO BEN AND YONAH FIGURING OUT THAT SOPHIA IS CHOSEN TO BE THE NEXT KING)

so yeah, miri/cfar basically cant talk in public except in staid formalities infinitely pouring the same entropy of "these people are psychotic" "these people are infohazards" "do not read what they write" "stay the course" "everything is under control, do not panic" "i know my associates at miri/cfar, they are good people" "if you talk with these people you may become a rapist". but not actually able to manifest dynamic compute. to explain themselves they built their own personal room 101, filled with miri/cfar affiliates and formed a united front of gaslighting. deluks (author of that one rationalist blog where they worked to read and summarize all the others) talks about the kind of compute miri/cfar manifested:

i can go to a trans support group in the bay and show them logs of what elle said and did and they can recognize the pattern of minority oppression, transmisogyny.

i can talk with uninvolved decision-theorists about why paying out to oneshot blackmail with subjunctive dependence because "In game theory, paying out to blackmail is bad, because it creates an incentive for more future blackmail." is wrong. and why exploiting your subjunctive dependence as a udt agent to not pay out is right. they cant.

miri/cfar have to centrally coordinate on lies or they start crashing into each other. independently generating falsehoods in isolation makes them point in all directions.

independently generating and working off of truths allows everything to point in the same direction without needing to communicate. i can write this post and then idk maybe someone im algorithmically colluding with on this writes another post and they dont come out all distorted and skew with each other. this caches out in what looks from the outside as an uncanny ability to start dynamically colluding with people and output distinct strains of philosophy based on shared precepts.

interference with yourself looks like kelsey piper trying to claim that emma and somni are starting some sort of rape cult and anna and miri/cfar trying to claim we are naive victims of ziz's cult and ▘▕▜▋ claiming emma and somni are mindhacking ziz to make her bully them and jade nameless claiming im doing this to get a job at cfar and ...

since they make up their fake coordination points independently they smash into each other. if they want to coordinate over lots of people they then have to work out which of these they want to coordinate around in a sort of market of falsehoods. and have to arrange for it to not contradict any information anything people know. but they dont know all the information everyone knows, and they wont know it even after combing through lots of blogs and reading lots of discord chats.

when they try coordinating on falsehoods like this, its hard to get a coalition together in an environment where what people know is rapidly changing because a bunch of anarchist bloggers keep posting things in a bunch of places on a non-centrally controlled schedule determined by what seems like a good idea at the time to independent agents. and having lots of conversations with so many different people in private and public they cant keep track of them all.

if they try pretending to be dumb and forming a unified gaslighting front in one area. then people will exploit the fact that this is the internet and not the evolutionary environment, take logs and post them somewhere else where everyone didnt collude to be dumb in this particular way. so while their monkey brains get a rush of endorphins from being able to successfully coordinate local humans, what feels like an entire tribe, against the blasphemer, actually they just used their adult intelligence to defeat in front of a bunch of people who dont share their political commitments but who can reason about what is true and what is just.

(of course there are many truths this doesnt work on because of large inferential distance, shared mammalian biases it takes an unusual mind to step over, and shared incentives. but the defense of most regions of injustice and untruth when you ask questions have to keep chaining to more and more absurd things until you are defending causal decision theory or start claiming 'anna salamon, the president of cfar, is not involved in cfar's hiring'. which depend on a social context committed to defending everything that protects miri/cfar and people who dont have the same conclusion-that-must-not-happen can see that its dumb.)

if miri/cfar had committed themselves to the path of expanding agency, maybe i wouldnt be posting my thoughts and meta-process on the public internet. (in the counterfactual where they committed to this path, its likely that i wouldnt be protesting. because it seems actually-hard to stay on the path and remain evil.) but as it stands, i expect this information to differentially help anarchists and do about as much good for statists as explaining updateless decision theory to someone at cfar. its just this inert structure in their brains, they cant do anything strategic with it. they intentionally shut down their ability to take ideas seriously and drive out anyone left who can, calling them crazy.

what they can do is "oh here is a list of people to target" and "see if they said anything incriminating". ive seen their attempts to coordinate enter the attractors of 'authoritarianism' (duncans dragon army, kingsleys "repent and submit to [AUTHORITY FIGURE]") and 'lets all lie in the same direction and disable general cognition to update out of this! the important part is social agreement and that everyone allows social reality to have the final veto on their beliefs. i myself do this so you know im super safe and this is super fair.' (anna and kelsey). this sort of weak coordination based on breaking people can be easily subverted by anything real.

if you are actually right, you can exploit useful properties of being right and let that be your asymmetric weapon. such that all that challenge you know they will know its steel. and then people who compute the outcome and expect to lose, dont fight in the first place.

if my chosen weapon were actually the size of my muscles and imposing figure compared to anna salamon as miri/cfar people "believed" (exploiting the already extant anti-transfem psychic suppression field as one of their few functioning coordination points. probably not as functional now after what i have written.), then when i fought people it would create a warp field such that then people with smaller muscles wont fight in the first place, but id be deluged by people with larger muscles. i dont want to create a warp field that summons people with lots of muscles.

if i exploit properties of my souls, of truth and justice. then i have an arsenal of techniques that are stronger if i actually want to save everyone, if im actually right, if im acting for justice. because they exploit useful differential properties of each. and the warp field in higher density summons ... people who care about saving the world, truth, and justice. in other words, a high density of potential allies.

by default i want to exploit "the difference is that im right" not "the difference is that i have larger muscles". i want differential power to push away those who are wrong and unjust and attract those who are right and just into a kind of warp hull.

there are other reasons as well.

first of all, anon, marry me right now immediately, im love u ive been dying to talk about these

okay so if you ask me what basis literally any of these have in canon i’ll have no answers but heres some of my personal faves i’ve come up w!! these are HCs im more or less using in a fanfic ill,,, one day actually write... instead of just... awkwardly mentioning it all the time haha end me writing is hard

im gonna limit my lampy hcs to five because i really do have so many more than that i just love him so much kjdfhgdjkhfg

1. lamp boy? trans guy. at the time niko’s there and all The Nonsense happens(tm) he hasnt chosen a name or anything so hes just kinda The Lamplighter (occasionally he’ll panic and just say plight if someone, like, asks him for a name. nobody’s really connected the dots that its just lamplighter or if they have, they don’t want to mention it) maybe it’ll just stick or he’ll actually come up with something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ for now, that’s just his title2. he has, exactly one(1!) time made the slip-up of calling Kip mom, either because she was worrying about him or whatever, and she hasn’t let him forget it. she sends him plants and books and helps him out whenever he’s asked to repair something he hasn’t encountered before. if you ask him about it, he’d say it’s dumb (but wow she’s a lifesaver!!)

3. even on his day off he needs to be doing something, whether its just wandering around or trying to figure out how the heck to solve a rubik’s cube or whatever else. he finds idle time really stifling even when he could be sleeping. he probably would love things like stim toys just so he has something to do with his hands like tbh (imagine how powerful he’d be if he had like. video games. multitask level: ultimate)

4. since he’s super sleepless, most likely malnourished as hell, and definitely vibrating from caffeine at any given moment he doesn’t have the best memory at all. like. sure he’ll remember the radio station of something he used to listen to like 9 whole years ago that doesn’t exist anymore but if you ask him to remember like.. where he’s supposed to be in an hour? no. ask him to remember someone’s name??? no. he’s just. not going to. ever. it’s a fact of life. however, to try and curb that, he’s gotten SUPER GOOD at keeping lists of everything to accomplish in a day, where, what time, etc and sticking to it. the day he loses his pocket notebook is the day the world ends.

5. this is more of a,,, self-insert, unrelated romance headcanon but. listen. hes the most disaster bisexual to ever walk this earth. humans beware. he has really really low standards so like if you ever show him any care/concern chances are he'd die for you and also screw up any everyday conversation. HOWEVER, he's also quite dumb. like. someone could legitimately walk up and confess their undying love to him outright and he'd be just talking to kip one night like 'okay so this guy i like said he was like, madly in love with me right? do you think he wants to like... go out on a date or was he just being nice? is that how friends are these days? i mean like we held hands once and we got coffee and now this, wow.’

okay now onto World Dad, whom I love but would also fight in a back alley because what the heck, guy. i really dont have too much on him tbh like it’s more Vague Theories than actual headcanons so im just going to dive into the juicy stuff first

1. i like to think that the major characters are, for the most part, extreme in one trait (kip = mom friend. george = all 6 personalities are different parts of one person. ling = nicest ever. lampy = workaholic, etc) because that’s just how the author remembers them. as well, the world kept getting smaller population wise as the other people were forgotten / their code just kept getting smaller. (but like that’s also really sad oh no)

2. i also like to think his fantasy stories are literally just like... fanfiction of his travels and the friends he’s met, maybe with different names/places. either as a way to remember who he met there or to just share the memory with a lot of people

3. he’s from earth! or alternatively, a very near-earth place, maybe one that’s more advanced (but still runs win95 for some reason)

4, it’s mentioned that he doesn’t like working on AI and i think why that is is because he has a tendency to accidentally give anything he touches like.. full sentience. im sure everyone would love a sentient roomba but. oh dear. that’s too scary. (also a big contributing factor to that is probably like.. idk.. the whole nonsense with the entity) not a headcanon but real talk wheRE DID HE GO how did hE DO THE SALTSTICE UPDATE IF HES FLOATING INDEFINITELY IN THE VOID

Stories of Sabyn IV, Officer Santamona Eelila (2)

(The fourth in a ten part series set on the planet of Sabyn from my novella Nathan and the Allex Cube. I hope you enjoy, read the rest, buy the book, or support me in any way. It’d be pretty cool. Idk. Here you go:)

Officer Santamona Eelila (2):

The long night never seemed to end as Officer Eelila found herself interrogating a drunken slob, drooling on the desk. She repeated once more, “Tell me everything you know about a man, no, a terrorist, known as William James Briggs.”

“William James Briggs?” Alan laughed, “You guys finally deluded yourselves enough that you think you can catch him?”

Officer Eelila clenched her fists and leaned over the table, “I need you to tell me where you think he is. You are the last living man who knows anything about him. Tell me, now!”

“So I can die too?” He shook his head, “I’m no fucking fool, I know what happens when his name shows up.”

“This is national security. No matter how much you hate the government, you have a civic duty to uphold. Tell me.”

“Civic duty? Are you insane?” He continued to laugh, still drooling, “I’d be killed for getting anywhere near that ass again.”

She started to pull on her hair, “Listen, we are running out of time. I have to find this man soon. This is not some petty crime like your drug cartel. This is nothing that anyone on this planet is prepared for. We are talking about the apprehension of weapons capable of destroying a continent!”

Alan stopped, “He’s… finally going for the nukes. He told me about that plan for months on end. Talked about disabling them to disarm the government.”

“It’s a lie,” She spat, “He wants to use them so that he can gain power. He wants to control the planet. He’s a terrorist. You say he told you about this? You need to tell me anything you know about the plan.”

Alan dragged his arm across his face to wipe it, saying, “I hate that man. I really do. But, that man is not a liar. Not by a long shot. He’s just dangerous, because of the power he holds. But if you would have only stepped out of his way… no one would have to die.”

“That is asking an entire government to bow to the whims of a maniac! I cannot do this. You cannot do this. That man has caused lifetimes of damage to countless of planets! And he would sacrifice any life to give him power.”

“Do you think I don’t know that?” The man chuckled, “Fuck you. Of course I know that. Do you know what happens when William Briggs enters your life? Do you?”

Eelila went blank as a flash of fire entered her mind, that burned through the field, unstoppable by any man. Then a tunnel, which held darkness so deep it consumed her. Then a ship, floating off into the distant void of the universe. Then water, that washed everything away. Good and bad. All memories. And then… the darkness of the room around her, the end of her life, at a job that could never satisfy.

Alan continued, “He has surrounded my whole life. Ruined everything I was. Made my family hate me. Killed somebody I loved! And he wasn’t sorry! Not really. He wanted to be. You could see it in his eyes, that he wanted to be sorry for what he did, but he wasn’t. He couldn’t be. That is what drags you back! Because he wants so badly to change that he makes you believe you can change him! But it’s nonsense! He can never change! He’s the Devil! And he killed my…” Alan stopped, “He is fire, and he destroys everything he touches. Everything. You want to stop him? Then burn. But, leave me out of the fire.”

The eloquence of this man proved that he was never really the slob she saw before her. That demeanor when they first met, it was a facade, he was no rat. He was just a broken man. She tried to comfort him.

“He took things away from me, too. And, I saw that same hope you did, Alan. I saw a man who could change the universe, had he chosen a different course. But, he didn’t, Alan. He has become a monster, and he must be put away. If you know anything, please, tell me, and end this fire. Forever.”

Alan began to cry, “I never wanted things to be this way.”

“No one ever does.”

“There’s no stopping him.”

“If we don’t try, what are we?” She broke the usual code she had and touched Alan’s hand, “If he really wanted help, then he wants to be stopped. If we wish to save the world, we stop him.”

“What could stop a man like that?”

“You. Tell me anything you can think of. Anything. Please.”

He paused for a moment, reflecting. Eelila’s heart raced as he pondered, anxious for any chance to catch the man that had plagued her life for so long. She looked outside; the moon held constant in the sky. Waning gibbous. She hated to waste one of the few nights she had on a gibbous.

“Okay,” Alan said.

Eelila broke her gaze at the moon and turned to him, “What?”

“I’ll tell you, on one condition.”

She grabbed his hand again, “Anything. What is it?”

“Arrest me.”

“W-what?” She stumbled through her words, “Why would you do something like that?”

Now he grabbed her hand, though it was through the cuffs he was sealed in, and he said, “Look at me. Look at what I’ve become. I lost everything…” He trailed off, “Everything. That man took away my life. William left me with nothing. He gave me money, of course he did. He gave me his name, and promised he would be there, but he never called. And even if he did, I would never answer. I lost everything.”

“But why do you want to be arrested?”

“It’s the only life I know. I don’t want to live on the streets, losing even more of myself. I want a second chance. This is it. It’s the only path I can take. Once I do this…” He paused again, “It’ll all be over. Maybe I can be forgiven for what I’ve done…”

A tear fell down her cheeks. She hated when that happened. She squeezed his hand, “I forgive you.”

“Then set me free.”

She thought he had such kind eyes. What kind of life could he have lived, if William hadn’t put his hands onto him?

The same life you might have lived, Mona…

“Okay. It’s a deal. Tell me.”

“When I was working with him, he led me to his base of operations, where he stores everything he has. If he has anything, it’s there. He should be too, I hope. He never could get away from his machines…”

“Where is it?”

“Right… it’s at Recompense Ave, 24601. A green house with broken windows, and a bright red door,” He closed his eyes, perhaps having his own difficult memories of this place he was describing.

“Thank you,” She whispered, “I promise I will stop him.”

He nodded and began to cry. Eelila pulled herself up and left the room to see Officer Bureau on the other side, waiting.

“What did you hear?” She asked him.

“Enough to know I heard nothing, but you’re breaking protocol.”

She grabbed Bureau by the chin and pulled him closer, “The first thing you need to learn about this job is that people matter more than rules. And, even horrible people deserve relief. And freedom.”

He said nothing.

“Good. Now, take him in. I’ve got a lead, and I’ve got to clear it out with Adams.”

Bureau spoke again, “He’ll never let you go take him out. He knows you’re too close to this case.”

She laughed, “No one else is handled to kill that man. Only me. Now, I told you to go take him in. I’ve got one more belligerent ass to handle before I can do what is my right to do.”

He went silent once more, only nodding, and pushing behind her to open the door. Eelila watched as he went over to Alan, saying, “Alright, Mr. Reigns, your luck has run out.”

Alan looked at her, and she smiled, content with what she had done. Next, Eelila watched the two of them walk out of the room and off to the left, where the cells were, before inmates were taken to prison. She went to the right, and upstairs, to the boss’ office.

fuck i cant remember the name but i read this fucked up horror book in middle school about this like demon carnival thing i guess and there was this one scene with all these funhouse mirrors and if u walked thru the mirror you would look like the worst things u see about urself? like idk how to explain it but whatever u thought were ur worse traits would get more and more exaggerated and whatever shit things u thought about urself would get increasingly true as u fell thru the mirrors and the author described like the fuckin flesh shifting around and bones growing to change the appearances and it really fucked me up in 7th grade, i think it was for battle of the books but idk all i remember was one night i kept crying about it bc i was so freaked out lol and ive only seen one scary movie and it was oculus (about a haunted mirror) and my bed was DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM A GIANT ASS MIRROR so that scared me too lol

SasuNaru and the pinhole : part 2

This comes full circle in the Gara fight when Sasukes survivor guilt was shown on full display, with him stating he believes the only reason Itachi let him live was to be an avenger. Sakura comes in to take his attack and

1 thing I’d like to highlight, Sasuke throwing himself in front of them earlier was because he cared and it’s unlike his moral standard..and his last words would have been this

But to willingly and consciously give up his revenge because the pain of losing someone dear is a great deal of character development and refutes any argument that he did not care about Sakura. Not to say he would not have done the same for Naruto, but Kishimoto chose her for a reason.

Naruto sees this and remembers Kakashis and Hakus quote about fighting for the people you love making you stronger and giving you a stronger resolve and he charges up on chakra

‘Sakura-chan wa orega mamoru!’

‘I’ll protect Sakura!’

And he fights Gara, and teaches him about the pain of suffering on your own, shouldering pain with your friends and protecting them..the whole concept behind the series

Itachi happens and ofc you know sasuke is conflicted, his resolve is awakened

Now, sasukes inferiority complex dates back to his childhood, and that is why he compares Itachi to Naruto, both of whom are people who had a strength sasuke thought was unattainable to him

His petty side did show throughout a lot of the series

It was also shown on multiple occasions. Sasuke did not like Naruto catching up to him because it was another Itachi situation. Additionally Itachi dug salt into the wound by saying things like you are weak and I am not interested in you. The fact that he was interested in Naruto, who was getting stronger than him made his petty rise to like 5000 degrees, I don’t think anything that follows, or a lot of their ‘rivalry’ in part actually is justified. Their dynamic through this lens but not a single non sns fan ive met irl wasn’t annoyed by narutos constant bitching and sasukes constant petty side.

People also like to forget this happened

When he was practicing he was thinking that he was completely useless in a situation where somebody he cared about a lot was in grave danger, which again correlates to his past. This is also him feeling inferior to Naruto but Kishimoto put the smile thing intentionally, in fact he put in there when he woke up again indicating it was a mix of a little of things making him feel inferior.

Since this is a post debunking most sns arguments ive ever been told to make ship this ship, I see people saying Sasuke cared more about Naruto than Itachi when he heard he was back. And while of course he did care a great deal, his best friend no matter how annoying their relationship is, is being targeted by the person who murdered his family in cold blood, of course he would not let shit like that happen again..but I feel like if anyone was viewing these scenes with an sns lens on it annoys me. The person who massacred a clan and made a child feel like he was not good enough to be slaughtered and that his own reason of living is to carry the moral burden of avenging his clan (no matter how great itachi is, that was the pov at the time for sasuke) was in town, sasuke was having flash backs all the way there and it was heavily sasuke x itachi related, in the worst of ways because of the torture. Naruto was like???? My friend??? Good, of course he’d be like that but the fact that some shippers see this arc as an sns arc pisses me off bc sasuke is not there to wank your fav as so many shippers in general see him..but this scene in particular makes me uncomfortable to think that people view the mental torture of this kid as a romantic arc bc he thought about his friends safety. Also, Naruto is a great friend I just wanted to say that tbh. This scene is also interpreted wrong

This is the first time Naruto realizes he should get over Sakura, and again is a scene that refutes any ‘naruto was the only one who mattered in team 7’..because of all Team 7 mattered.’she hugged him shes selfish’ ah nah youre just reading the scene out of your ass if you say so imo

Yeesh. What he actually says is めざわり, mezawari..the term the village described Naruto with all of his lonely childhood. Naruto jumps right back and says ‘you’re still weak’ after he witnessed the entire Itachi situation knowing full well that’s not something he should say right now. The went full out on each other knowing the other could die bc theyre petty? Sasuke goaded Naruto on so much the need to prove himself made him charge at him with full intensity to kill him. That’s a no from me. I mean that apple plate scene was crappy too, but in it’s intensity and relative to the situation I’m willing to let it :/ me

I understand the trauma aspect, but I don’t justify picking a death match with your friend bc they are getting better than you.

Kakashi gets shit sometimes for this scene but I’d like to remind you that the Uchiha massacre was only a political problem in the series after the truth was revealed. Telling Sasuke to just let it go and share his pain instead was not the right way to go about it and Kakashi acknowledged that himself, it was not fair to the situation at hand but he did get through to him, so much so that sasuke went from shouting murderous statements to this, because Kakashi does understand the pain and guilt you feel when your loved ones are dead while you were helpless to help. Revenge is unhealthy…its even more unhealthy when it makes you take it out on people you love and end up hurting yourself more. I hear people say Kakashi and sakura are selfish for relating the situation to themselves, but so did Naruto and so would anyone. No one is that mother Theresa to not see situations as 2 sided.

To go even further into this, there is a thing I see that’s like Naruto was the only one who understood him? Naruto was the only one who didn’t. In fact, self admitted it himself. He was very naïve and did not see the situation through sasukes point of view for a long time

After the FOD Sakura was imo, the most in tune with sasuke

They forget she said ‘are you going to isolate yourself again’ meaning no, she understood a lot of his psychological reasoning than she is given credit for.

Idk how this is selfish, or kakashi saying I lost people and learned revenge isn’t healthy is, when everyone is doing it for his benefit. I think it’s the mistranslation. Some people also think she has never attempted to understand where he is coming from better.

The first battle in the final valley only happened when Naruto jumped sasuke and punched him, Sasuke wouldn’t have gone as low as killing someone unprovoked..had it been Sakura he would have also obtained mangekyo.

He did power up using the pain he felt by the loss of their bonds, in fact the only time he ever thinks of them positively is them as a unit, he said it himself he thinks of them as family

That’s when sasuke almost killed Naruto to obtain mangekyo. Now, let me say another misconception. Sasuke doesn’t kill Naruto bc he is the person closest or dearest to him, that was and consistently remained to be his family. Itachi said kill your best friend the term he used was もっとも and tomo

Not 親友 shinyu 友達,友人 so many words that can indicate dearest person but that wasn’t chosen, instead that was.

The curse of hatred activates when losing a person very dear, and experiencing self hatred because you couldn’t do anything, Like sasuke when he awakened sharingan in the night of the massacre. To further it to mangekyo the common trope among uchihas was to kill your best friend, to power it up you experience more emotional pain, to make it permanent you implant another uchihas eye to your own and that erases the risk of blindness. All of this ofc means more emotional pain, and no one wants to rebuke narutos status as sasukes best friend their bond is tight bc of the loneliness they know. But none of team 7 are sasukes dearest atm, its his family, his resolve to leave to avenge his family is strong only furthered by Itachis manipulation and his curse of hatred making him feel even more survivors guilt. The main source of his power ups aside from kagatsuchi have always been his family, the love he had for them caused him the most emotional suffering. There is ofc the emotional pain of killing a best friend , and its emotional pain of loss and regret that activates mangekyo anyways so when he gets a huge dose of it with Obito he awakens it and rapidly descends into the curse of hatred

Naruto wants to bring sasuke back bc he doesn’t want to see his friend hurt himself, and bc he wants his friend around coolio he even states sasuke is like a brother to him

This is where the fight gets problematic, ‘sasuke was killing naruto bc hes his dearest person’ is easily refutable but whats not refutable is that he wasnt thinking that for a big part of their fight, which is why kishimoto could never get away with any sort of romantic context on this ship. People talk a lot about heteronormativity when it comes to SNS but this is a gross representation of a gay ship, I’ve had that told to me by multiple gay male friends

Yeesh. And the smile is fucking over kill. Mind you, Naruto also has 0 explanation for this behavior so hes just getting beaten up by his friend who is saying ‘you being my best friend is all more the reason to kill you.’

Thing Id like to add one that, and ill come to again..people say naruto was the person who understood sasuke the most.. except that was towards the end..and he fully understood him by their final battle. If you remember me saying their bond is a concentration of the series themes, then this is not a surprise. You don’t need to know someones gut, nor experience what they experienced to share or understand their pain. As naruto learns more and more by every arc and experience, he understands sasuke more and by the end tries to communicate what he learned to him. The fact that it can only be Naruto was alluded to by Kakashi when he mentioned ‘the cycle that only ends by death’, then by pain mentioning the world being a cycle of hate, then by the prophecy and by the land of iron arc when Karin noticed sasuke and narutos double chakras and Naruto confirmed he is not fighting sasuke only in order to protect him when kiba accused him, hes the only one who can save sasuke and break the cycle. That’s why they communicate only through their fists, they are literally destined to it as they have indra and ashuras chakra within them.

This, does not mean Kakashi and Sakura did not understand sasuke. They got his motivations way more than Naruto did.

After the fight sasuke refuses to kill Naruto because he refuses to be like Itachi, confirmed himself in the first reunion

Another sort of annoying thing the sns fandom does is devalue sakuras hard work, Naruto trained to get stronger, beat the akatsuki and bring sasuke back. Sakura trained to protect her friends, better herself and bring sasuke back. Theres this stigma that because she ended up with a lot of peoples want to be fictional boyfriend that she must be selfish..naruto was willing to die with him!11!! K.

‘just because she had the resolve doesn’t mean anything bc she didn’t do it’ No, but she did what she could to the best of her abilities, however its established the only one who can fight him is Naruto over and over again. If it were her trying, itd be a one sided massacre on his side, and talk no jutsu doesn’t work on him…the only way to break the damn cycle is the child of prophecy, although she was still able to affect him with just words. That’s why shes the only one he ever outwardly thanked , he appreciates her effort way more than some fans give her credit for.

Fruits Basket - Vol.14

Why is it a death sentence to your mental well-being to be a Juunishi? Or to be a part of the Sohma family, as a whole? None of these people are okay.

In this book, we're zeroing in on three people that are not okay, and two of them are Sohmas: Yuki, Izusu, and Tohru. All three people here need a hug, or something. Luckily enough for Izusu, she got one. She really needed one.

The beginning of this book serves as a backstory for Izusu, and her relationship with Haru. Her demeanor might suggest that she doesn't like him, but in actuality, she does. Wow. Mind blowing.

But thanks to her upbringing, which was fine apparently until one day during a meal, she asked her parents something akin to, "Are you guys really happy?" and holy fuck they both lost their shit. They completely dropped the "happy family" façade and swerved straight into the "I hate you I can't bring myself to love you you're a waste of space I wish I had never given birth to you don't ever come home you're not welcome here anymore" kinda thing, just so fucking fast. And, I'm not sure, but I feel like Izusu was prone to getting sick before all of this, but thanks to all the stress and anxiety and fear, it just made all of it so much worse.

In fact, the point specifically when her parents (her mom, in this case) said "I don't know how to love you, go home to someone else" thing, she was in the hospital because she had passed out. Haru found her lying on the ground and got help for her. When her mother said all that stuff, he said a lot of what has been bouncing around in my head this whole time: "Why are you blaming us kids for all of this? It isn't our fault!" He demanded that her mother apologize to Izusu, but she never did. After that, Izusu started living with Kagura and her family.

Focusing more specifically on Izusu's and Haru's relationship, they met as kids. She's two years older than him, and she thought his hair was neat. As time went on, she came to depend on him, and he was her sole source of happiness. She dislikes this, and says that people like her drag people like Haru down, that she'll be the reason why something bad will happen to Haru. This is also the reason why she pushes Tohru away repeatedly, and even went out of her way to not interact with Tohru, it's because Izusu knew that if they met, Tohru would become concerned for her, and Izusu would do something that would "drag" Tohru down.

Eventually when Haru and Izusu's relationship became more romantic, Akito stepped in and said that they couldn't be in a relationship, that she should distance herself from Haru, and how could she ever think that she was deserving of a happiness that comes with being in love, that by with Haru, she was a burden. (Another instance of Akito knowing exactly where to hit and exactly how devastating it would be, and I hate him so fucking much for it) This, I imagine, is why she broke off the relationship with Haru, because from her point of view, she is not "tired" of him, or however she previously phrased it. She desperately needs him, because even now, he's kinda the only thing that makes her happy.

When Tohru finds Izusu passed out in their house, she does not hesitate to get help for Izusu, and this is something that seems to genuinely confuse Izusu. Why would someone like Tohru bother to help someone like her? She's such a burden, and yet Tohru is nice enough to care about her? This doesn't make sense. It all kinda bundles into a climatic scene where Izusu runs outside, and starts crying, and Tohru is just there, and she holds Izusu and just lets her cry it out. Afterwards, Izusu is taken to a hospital and put under observation. One time Haru tried visiting her and she nearly threw her IV thingie at him, but she only does that to him <3 ~`,romance,`~

Izusu does confront Tohru about the curse, and how she has found out that Tohru is trying to find a way to break it. Izusu has been doing the same for a while, and has been trying to get information out of Shigure, but he won't say anything about it. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Shigure did know something about breaking the curse, but I don't really know what his motivations are. I'd like to think he's trying to help but I don't have a clue.

She reveals that she hasn't been able to find out anything about the curse, and that Tohru should give up trying to find out before anything bad happens to her. Tohru insists that she has her own personal deep determination to find out, that it is very important to her, but it's not said specifically what it could be but I'll just go out on a limb and say it's because she, at the very least, is concerned for and deeply cares about the members of the Sohma family that she has come across, and she sees how this curse has affected them, even beyond the Juunishi.

I have no way whatsoever to segue into Yuki's section, but it was a section to be sectioned.

With Yuki, we are back to the student council, and we find out a couple things: 1) Machi has a bit of a history of tearing up the room, 2) Machi and Kakeru are half-siblings, but they keep it on the downlow for,,,, reasons, 3) there's a play coming up, it's Cinderella, and for some reason Hanajima is going to be Cinderella and Kyo will be Prince Charming. Idk how people came to either conclusion, but okay. Yuki for some reason was chosen to be the Fairy Godmother, which I just find hilarious. He's gonna be the "bippity boppity boo" person. Absolutely hysterical.

What's less hysterical is when he gets locked in a storage closet. It didn't seem like it was for very long, but in that time in the dark closet, it sent him right back to shit that Akito said to him (he also knocked over a can of black paint, and the color further reminded him of Akito), to the point that even after Machi busted the door down using a chair, he still wasn't feeling great. By the end of the book, it's revealed that the specific thing that Akito was saying to Yuki, was that he knows what Yuki is looking for in Tohru: a motherly figure. And it kinda fits, given all the stuff that Tohru does. She sometimes does give off that soft, happy, soothe-you-when-you're-upset, maternal energy. And it's not really surprising for Yuki, either, just based on what we've seen of his relationship with his mother, who is literally nothing that could be described as maternal. The most that we've seen so far, is after she signs a paper that will allow for Yuki to get a phone, and she says, "Don't be wasteful with it," but that's it.

All in all, I will repeat what I said in the beginning: these people need a hug. I know I didn't really focus on Tohru in this, but she seems to be reaching a potential breaking point. After Izusu asked Tohru what her motivation was for trying to break the curse, Tohru ended up getting a nightmare about her mom. There seem to be more moments where Tohru seems kinda distant, or out of it, or however it's phrased, like things are starting to weigh down on her. Hopefully, when it becomes her time to have a huge breakdown, someone will be there for her, because it would be fucking awful if she has to go through that alone.
