how do their backstories change? like mitsuri literally got rejected for marriage but im gonna assume shes not at marrying age yet- she has a happy family and all, how would that change? or like mui and yui how would they have survived? or like himejima, his religious orphanage got slaughtered. or...how did kanao get out of her situation?

know where some dont change- gonna assume giyuu's sister got slaughtered still, or that sanemi and genya had that whole thing involving their mom. shinobu and kanae got rescued by kanao and aoi i think you said, shinjuro saved iguro from the entire demonic cult, and uzui i bet just left the ninja squad earlier than canon.

okay so i've been waffling on how to answer this for a while now, because originally i was just going to give you every idea i had on character backstories, but now i've started plotting out Actual Fics for some of these? so you're not getting all of the details, but i'll let you have some stuff.

this isn't every character, and it's not even every hashira or everyone in the friend group because i haven't fully plotted out everyone's history yet, so :/ also some characters will have a single line of backstory and others will have whole ass essays. i have thought more about some characters than others and i will not feel shame for having favorites within my own au

without further ado, though, here's some

CHARACTER BACKGROUNDS

uh, general spoiler warning for anime-onlys, although my blog is kind of a walking spoiler warning, so apologies on that front. also spoilers for like . my own au? this is kind of a huge deep dive into the background so.. idk man, this is a lot. i kind of went crazy with this

THE KAMADO SIBLINGS

so, obviously, their story starts out the same-ish: with the entire kamado family dying, nezuko being turned into a demon, the two of them being saved by the water hashira and told to train under urokodaki sakonji. just, the water hashira who helps them is makomo instead of giyuu

i haven't actually decided on what happens with tanjirou's final selection, because what happens there heavily informs what happens during giyuu and sabito's final selection. the big question is "does tanjirou kill the hand demon?" if he doesn't, then he at least puts up a good fight before fleeing.

tanjirou goes on a couple missions, meets yushirou and tamayo, receives his task to get blood from the twelve kidzuki, and goes off to try doing that!

at some point he encounters yoriichi (possibly from directions given to him from our favorite demon doctor?) and yoriichi starts teaching him Actual sun breathing

also at some point, tanjirou meets and befriends the rest of the future hashira. i don't really know what the kamaboko squad's adventures look like without the crazy of canon

according to my timeline i have (which is admittedly subject to change), tanjirou becomes a hashira about a year after becoming a demon slayer at the age of 16 after he kills the former lower moon one

several years later, nezuko conquers the sun! and tanjirou, no longer confident in his ability to protect her from muzan and just generally worried about her getting hurt on his continuously more difficult missions, sends her off to go follow yoriichi around

nezuko's still kind of out of it at this point so she doesn't really fight this decision like she might've if she were more aware. she goes with yoriichi and the kamado siblings will spend the next, eh, three-ish years not seeing each other

nezuko eventually does properly regain consciousness and starts sending letters to tanjirou, but eventually stops once she sort of processes the fact that her brother basically pawned her off on some guy. she's ignoring him out of spite now and they haven't talked in literal years

tanjirou meanwhile takes no time at all in cementing himself as The Strongest Hashira, hands down. the others look to him as the pillar of the hashira (heh) and he's basically in charge of them. he handles this leadership role pretty well at first, but as the years go by it really starts wearing him down. he's very tired but he has so much he has to do

and then tanjirou finds two boys at the bottom of mount fujikasane and things start looking up again

THE RENGOKU FAMILY

instead of ruka getting ill and dying, shinjurou gets sick and dies!

shinjurou probably would've made it through his sickness, but he decided to literally work himself to death and performed his hashira duties while ill, which eventually resulted in his untimely death

after his death, ruka ends up picking up the blade and becoming the flame hashira so the seat doesn't remain vacant. she spends her time not slaying demons training senjurou and kyoujurou

senjurou, as the eldest son, feels a lot more pressure to become a slayer and works his little butt off. it takes a lot of hard work, but he eventually succeeds his mama as flame hashira. according to my timeline, he becomes a slayer at 12 and a hashira at 17

after senjurou's promotion, ruka retires and devotes all her time to training kyoujurou. senjurou helps whenever he can! it takes no time at all for kyoujurou to surpass both of them in skill

at some point, kyoujurou also starts training mitsuri on the side before she just starts joining him when he trains with his mom and brother

the two of them go to final selection together and also at the same time as giyuu and sabito!

THUNDER BREATHERS

so zenitsu spends a good year and a half training with kuwajima before he takes final selection and becomes a slayer at 16. he makes friends with the other future hashira and gets dragged into fighting some pretty high level demons against his will

zenitsu becomes a hashira at around the same time as tanjirou, when he's 17 ish. he's not really about it, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

meanwhile, kaigaku . used to live with gyoumei before he did a really stupid thing and got a bunch of kids killed. and he ran away and ended up getting taken in by kuwajima when he was, oh, 12 ish??

zenitsu ended up visiting and basically imprinting on this kid, doing everything in his power to help kaigaku become the best thunder breather there ever was! he's not the best teacher, but he manages to get kaigaku to be able to use total concentration constant by the time he goes off to his final selection

tengen also shows up at some point and tries (and fails) to become zenitsu's tsuguko. the position is taken, though, even if kaigaku's not actually even a demon slayer yet

kaigaku participates in final selection the same year as giyuu and sabito (and company) and when he passes he gets instated as zenitsu's official tsuguko

KANAO & AOI

aoi is actually the one to get kanao out of her situation! and the two of them run away to become demon slayers together!

aoi has her final selection several years before kanao (and company), with the tokitou twins

she becomes a demon slayer and quickly realizes that she kind of fucking hates it, but unlike in canon, she has no fallback plan so she just has to commit to the life of a demon slayer

kanao eventually becomes a slayer too (although aoi told her she really didn't have to if she didn't want to) and the two start working together on missions!

uhh shenanigans happen, i have no idea what stuff occurs in the several years where the kamaboko squad is kicking

kanao becomes a hashira first out of the two of them, at the same time as tanjirou when she's 17

aoi becomes a hashira maybe a year or two later

the two of them set up the butterfly estate, help out sumi, naho, and kiyo, and then later also suma, makio, and hinatsuru

also around the same time they save the kochou sisters from a demon and basically adopt them

INOSUKE.

inosuke is inosuke is inosuke. not a whole lot changes with him other than him getting older

my only real note on inosuke is that at some point he finds out about his mom's history with douma. i do not know how.

THE TOKITOU TWINS

when muichirou posits the idea of becoming demon slayers, yuuichirou doesn't tell him no

the two take a month to learn mist breathing and then another month to kill a lower moon. both of them are offered the position of hashira, but mui turns it down so yuui gets the position

this does mean that yuuichirou has been hashira for the longest out of the current roster. eight whole years as a hashira, from when he was 12 to when he's 20

(edit: lol i forgot about makomo. i always forget about makomo.... yuui's been a hashira the second longest after makomo who's been a hashira for 11 years!)

muichirou is basically an honorary hashira, but doesn't want the rank

THE SHINAZUGAWA BROTHERS

when genya's 15 and sanemi's 8 (yeowch, finally writing down their ages for that makes it kinda hurt worse), sanemi kills their demon mom and genya takes it poorly, calling sanemi a murderer in a fit of anger. sanemi runs away and genya has no idea where he ends up

on the genya side of things, he spends a good year doing nothing but looking for his little brother before he kinda gets recruited by the demon slayer corps who offer to help him look for his brother

genya becomes a slayer and becomes a hashira around the same time as tanjirou (and company) and he sort of. gives up on looking for his brother because he's pretty sure that sanemi's better off without someone like genya chasing after him

on the sanemi side of things, he runs away after his tragic backstory moment and just kills random demons until he's found and taken in by masachika. he finds out his brother's a hashira and comes up with a really convoluted plan to apologize to genya about killing their mom after sanemi becomes a hashira

he learns wind breathing and takes final selection at the same time as giyuu, sabito, and co.

and then sanemi finds out that in the week he was off participating in final selection, masachika got killed by a lower moon

so he's in a ... rough headspace at the start of the story. which is at least partially why he's . like that

THE KOCHOU SISTERS

shinobu and kanae lose their family to demons when they're 12 and 13 respectively. they're taken in by kanao and aoi and move into the butterfly estate! they also start training under both of them

(this isn't really a background thing, but in case i never do anything with it, i have an idea of a line between kanao and kanae when they first meet where kanao asks for kanae's name and then goes "oh, that's kind of funny. because my name's kanao. they're pretty similar, aren't they?" and it helps calm kanae down a little)

kanae takes final selection when she's 14 and becomes kanao's tsuguko

shinobu is discouraged from taking final selection because she really doesn't need to and also she's kind of scrawny so it might be too tough for her, but she goes anyways a year after kanae and in the same year as giyuu, sabito, and co

UROKODAKI'S (OTHER) STUDENTS

makomo passes final selection when she's 12, narrowly avoiding getting killed by the hand demon, and then she becomes a hashira two years later when she's 14

makomo is 17 when she comes across tanjirou and nezuko and sends the both of them to urokodaki

sabito is taken in by urokodaki maybe a year or so after tanjirou passes final selection. sabito is 9 ish

tomioka tsutako dies(?) when giyuu is 13 and after running away from the people he was sent to live with, he comes into urokodaki's care

giyuu and sabito go off to final selection when they're both 15 and it doesn't go… great.

and that's all you get!!!! maybe i'll write more backstory stuff someday but this post is already kinda fuckin long as hell

kdjlsfghdfjklsg OKAY!!!!! ANYANKA!!!! TRAIN'S VERSION!!!!!

First off I fancast her with Emma Myers now or Maya Hawke in the recent past. I feel both of them could handle the role and both are closer looking to the 17-18yo age we’d need for S3!Anya which is one of my main reasons for even recasting Anyanka bc lbr... Emma Caulfield is iconic in the role no notes really on her end. But yeah, both could pull off that “alien who just moved to earth tries to hang with the teenz” vibes that are so integral to the Anya experience.

After that I just lean WAY more into her established backstory and season 3 personality, you know, how she was before they flanderized her to hell and back. Basically more of a cranky adult trapped in a shitty mortal teen body and having to deal with all this shit they can’t remember from their own youth and probably didn’t have to even deal with the first time around. Her moods are all over the place in S3-4 since she’s so new to being mortal and like...18 years old. It’s like being boss baby and needing a nap lol.

She also has beef with Willow and Giles from day one and actually develops a real friendship with Cordelia and Faith-- basically if they’re in the Scooby sphere but not well liked by the Scoobies proper they’re gonna end up friends with Anyanka. Which means by the end of the series she’s homies with Cordelia, Faith, Spike, Oz, Angel, Wesley, Andrew, etc. The only one I don’t think she’d have time for is Amy and that’s entirely because she doesn’t have time for her or Willow and their issues with magic, superiority complexes and how little they listen to her even tho she’s you know, their obvious magical superior on the knowledge front.

Circling back to Willow and Giles it’s because she’s the anti-Willow and anti-Giles in some ways and until a better set up is thought up she’s basically the spirit and mind of the shadow self hands-heart-spirit-mind metaphor that the scoobies take on. She and Spike are basically already the Rowdy Ruff Boys to the Scoobies’ Powerpuff Girls as is. She’s already kind of established as a shadow Willow in the show but I wanna you know...... NOT FORGET SHE CAN DO MAGIC FOR LIKE 4 SEASONS.

Without her demonic powers Anyanka is not as strong of a witch as Willow when it comes to pure strength. But she was an extremely gifted one even before she got 1,000+ years to hone her craft and learn more. She can buy and sell Willow and Giles any day of the week, they basically only win against her because Buffy’s the slayer, luck, MC powers etc etc yada yada. She’s also not afraid to remind them of this fact which makes Willow especially very insecure and dislike her a LOT. Along with that Anyanka still lacks a filter nor cares to get one. She probably also backed Faith’s whole bad slayer shit for a while like “yeah you go girl get your revenge!!!! (and also idk can you maybe help me get my powers back or like??? talk to your boss about it????? idk idk)”. bc ofc she’s not giving up on that so easily and also you know, Faith is a pretty wronged lady and old habits die hard. Also it parallels the Buffy-Willow friendship and makes it all sexy and evil and shadow self-y.

ofc once she realizes what he wants to do is Ascend she’s like LOL NVM I’M OUT!!!! LOL BYEEEEEE!!!!!

I’d still have her going to prom with Xander, negging him when she asks him and terrorizing him unintentionally the whole night. It’s comic gold. But I want her entry into being a main cast member to not be wholly dependent on her riding his dick on the reg like in canon so she’s the first person to bang on Buffy’s door and be like “something’s happening to the Sunnydale demon population!!!!” because ofc she still cares about them, in her brain she’s not human, she’s a demon. This whole mortal form thing is temporary really. Her and Xander is a background courting ritual of freaks and losers incomprehensible to all around them. It’s not the slap slap kiss vibes of Xander/Cordelia but it still has the same “whAT--?!?!?” moment and top tier comedic duo timing.

Anya only really starts to see herself as human when she breaks her arm in 5x2 and even then it’s very uneasy. It’s like 8 kinds of crisis she’s combatting here guys.

Also starting in S4 she and Spike are besties. Again it’s a shadow self, my demons are their own angels, us but sexier energy. They’re serving Scoobies from the Negaverse. They’re giving “this could be you Buffy but you playing”. They’re also like, the greek chorus in the back being like “uhhhhhh what’s with the gross human-centric ethics you creeps?”. They’re another next level comedy duo. Could’ve removed his chip the whole time but he never asked so she never offered. She mentions this casually in Season 7 and he mcloses it over that for several episodes, it’s a running gag.

Anya and Willow have Tension from Season 4 on about being the Magical Girl of the group. The Scoobies all naturally pick Willow pretty consistently over Anya but then Willow Fucks Up (something blue etc) and they turn to Anya to fix it. It’s a popularity contest and they all know it and it makes Anya bitter and Willow even more insecure. This feeds into her Dark Willow Arc later. Also, she and Anya have a Wizard Fight at the end of Season 6 and it’s Sick Nasty.

Xander still leaves her at the altar because I think that’s actually very important to both of their characters and she does still become a demon again. The major difference is that she doesn’t then stop being one in Season 7. She ends out the series still a demon and the confrontation in the frat house actually is basically a psychological boss battle for Buffy that gets into shit relevant to the season and her own struggles.

Anyanka never really asked for this, she was basically tricked/manipulated both times into becoming a demon but she also gains incredible powers from being like this that realistically she wouldn’t want to give up as they’re a part of her now. Her identity is malleable, she’s been treated like she doesn’t get to have one, she has to fight to make one of her own. she’s in a position when she’s controlled by a cruel man and if she goes outside the lines or does things she feels are right the consequences are dire. She is Buffy, she’s the demon side of Buffy. The counterpoint to Dawn’s innocent youthful human girl, she’s the grown adult demon woman. She’s representing the struggles Buffy is dealing with now in herself and the plot. Buffy ends up deciding to not punish her for the murders both yes because of friendship but also because Anyanka is an irreplaceable asset, even more so now that she’s a demon again, and Buffy cannot afford to lose any of those right now. A logic that Anyanka actually approves of.

I enjoy Anya’s fish out of water and no filter vibes in the original but I hate how they consistently forget she’s smart until it’s useful again. Like lbr, S4-7 Anya is basically just there to say something cringe or funny or say “when i was a demon--” before being shunted to the back again so the Most Important People could talk. Season 3 Anya was cunning, acerbic, clever, knew the basics of how things work in the mortal world and I’m sorry-- I know it’s very important to many people but I hate her monologue in The Body. I just HATE it.

She’s been killing people for over a thousand years. She knows what death is and how it works. She knows it means this person will never eat eggs a-fucking-gain sHE KNOWS THIS!!!!! Now if this was about the emotionalness of that loss-- of being the one to actually do the losing I wouldn’t hate it!!! That actually tracks. Anyanka is basically immortal and likely as never had a single person she truly cared about die in that time. It would make sense if she understands that Joyce is dead but doesn’t know how to react to that or process it. Loss is a thing she inflicts, it’s not done to her. She wouldn’t know what to do with herself.

Also she doesn’t give a stupid fucking speech about running away that makes NO sense and just TELLS YOU SHE’S GONNA DIE with a fucking FOGHORN and then DIES POINTLESSLY IN THE FINALE. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

omg I love your spider family headcanons sm UGHH (especially the spider bro ones they just hit different). uhh I have an idea for the spider bro one if you don’t mind!! thank you :D

I just came up with the idea that rui doesn’t really care if (name) changes his form as long as it’s not his original one and told him his backstory, so that lead to spider bro leaving the mountain and observing humans with their games, food, etc etc. he would disguise himself as a human and buy a bunch of human stuff (he def made demon slayers give him the money by his annoying spiders lol) that were for rui and him to play around with + try and help him remember.

eventually, he becomes pretty well known around that area passing off as this orphaned older brother trying to support his younger bro (I mean.. he’s kinda not wrong tbh). the people around that area start to grow fond of him, and some of them start giving him discounts or hell, there might be a chance that they’ll give it for free !

he would tell the people there some things about his brother like how he got flustered and embarrassed easily, how he would be very demanding and needy, their experiences, yk all that cute stuff.

then one day while spider bro was buying some sweets to try out with rui, one of the shopkeepers get curious about his younger brother.

he brushes it off at first but then they kinda start guilt ripping him.. so yeah even though he’s a demon he’s grown a bit attached to them.. (only a bit, he hopes)

rui had never been on his little journey, so at first he was pretty hesitant but gave in. he made yourself look a bit more like you in your human disguise, and went down the mountains..

when they got there, the people there were ecstatic- saying how much (name) talked about you and showered him with head pats and gentle smiles.

of course, rui was super taken aback by all of this and almost murdered all of them on the spot, but spider bro reassured him.

it felt so.. foreign to him, yet so familiar. how long has it been since someone looked at him like that? like he wasn’t this terrifying and disgusting monster? (save for spider bro) he was so overwhelmed by all of these kind gestures from complete strangers. they looked at him with adoration in their eyes.

and for the second time (first one was from spider bro uh), he actually felt loved. as if this were some big family get together with many distant cousins, uncles, and aunts, that had been doing their own things for years.

lmao um idk what happens to the spider fam tbh, but that’s for you to decide! thanks for doing the last request too :> (also I apologize for my grammar and mistakes, English is kinda hard to learn :’D)

Dead.

The spider family had no living members left.

Except for [Name], that is. No, he didn't pass away; aside from Rui, he is the only strong member of the family. It explains why he escaped those pesky slayers.

Before sitting in the rain on the soggy grassy floor, Rui heaved a long sigh. [Name] swiftly whirled around. “No! No, Rui, hurry and stand up! Let's head home first." Rui stared at his brother after looking up at him; he wasn't ready to leave yet. With his previously deceased family members, he was furious. He would have killed them in the most agonizing manner he could have if the slayers hadn't already done so.

“Everyone’s dead."

[Name] was taken back a bit. He wasn't expecting Rui to respond, let alone say that.. Usually he would just move on and give everyone else a "Do something that pisses me off and I'll kill you" look

"Y-Yes, everyone's dead I know but we can talk about this later we need to get-

"They didn’t even try.." Rui continued, interrupting [Name]. But that didn't matter at the moment, now what mattered was what [Name] was supposed to say next. He wasn't sure if Rui even wanted him to say anything. He couldn't read his experssion due to Rui staring right at the floor so that didn't help anything.

They all had one job and they completely failed it.. I knew they were useless, I knew there were.. but I couldn't find anyone to replaced them. Now thinking about it, I should've just killed them all off and we could've been a happy family, just the two of us.. I only favored you did you know that? Your the only one I truly cared about. The family was just.. Image what would’ve happened if they had to protect me. If I was weak and defenseless I would’ve....mh- Nevermind..” Rui’s rant quickly got shut down by himself. He didn’t get up still, he just dug his head into his knees.

You stared at your younger brother in confusion. He wasn’t one to stop his angry rants out of nowhere. He loved to rant. Even if it was just full of nonsense. Throughout the day, he would find an excuse to rant about something with you.

You tried your best to try and encourage him to get up. You later gave up and instead tried to strike a conversation.

“Hey.. Rui, Do you remember what your life was like as a human?” you asked quietly, not knowing if Rui wanted to answer the question, but the look in his eyes looked like he wanted too.

It was silent for a bit. Rui’s frustrated expression only got more intense by the second.

“You-”

“No- no I can....tell you but- I can’t remember anything...”

“Oh..Well that’s ok.. What if I tell you my human life? Would that-”

“YES!- uhh yeah g-go ahead” A hint of blush spreads around Rui’s face from embarrassment. He loves to hear people tell stories. He doesn’t know why but it’s just so nice to hear someone tell a story. It reminds him of someone he can't remember..

“Ah, lets see... I actually don’t live around here. I had no siblings.. And I didn’t have a mother either...”

You went on to tell him how your Father never really cared for you and how you had to a lot of stuff on your own. You tried your best to put it in great detail for Rui but at the same time shorting it so you both can get out of the rain and to the house.

You told him how a random guy turned you into a demon, just for the fun of it. You personally hoped that the demon died in the sun or by demon slayers.

“Wait, then how did you get here?”

“Demon slayers were everywhere, where I used to live. I Had to get away from that area before they found me.”

“So you-”

“I ran. I was always a fast runner but once I turned into a demon it’s like my running skills upgraded or something. And my stamina? When I reached here, I still wasn’t tired.”

“Really?..” Rui asked giving you a adoring look. “Hell Yeah! And I lived-”

The loud clap of thunder interrupted your story telling. Followed by the thunder was a harder rainfall. Yeah now we have to go home.. You thought to yourself.

“Come on Rui, We gotta go home now.”

...

“You want me to carry you-”

“Yes”

As you got home(In under 50 seconds because you ran) you took a look around.

The place was completely trashed.

Slayers must’ve raided here...

You sighed at the mess you and Rui now had to clean. Jeez, were the slayers animals? Stuff from the kitchen was now in the living room and items from the bedrooms were now in the kitchen.

“They should’ve just burned the place down if they were gonna make this much of a mess” You jokily remarked to Rui. Rui’s only response was a soft snore.

Aww, he fell asleep.. Where the hell can I even put him? The slayers completely destroyed the place..

You turned your attention to a futon mattress on the floor. You picked it up and shook off any dust or debris that was on it. Once you were finished, you made space to place the futon down on the floor, for Rui to lay on.

After getting set on the futon, a loud boom! was heard from the woods. Rui shifted in his sleep, causing you to go and investigate what the loud noise was.

Looking outside the broken window, the boom sound erupted louder through the woods. What came after it was pretty bright lights.

That’s a bittersweet ending.. You thought to yourself as another boom! exploded. When you listened closely, you heard people yell in excitement.

You forgot there was a village not to far from the Mountain...

Maybe I should go down there...Get me and Rui some snacks....Maybe a human... Wait how will I get there without looking...Well I can...No, Rui will be mad...But, would he care... What are those exploding lights?

You decided to leave the many questions you had and go sleep with Rui, since it was getting harder for him to sleep.

“Hey Rui?” Rui looked up at you with a hand in his mouth. “mmh?”

“Have you ever...gone to the-”

“Mmmh? hm mh”

“Rui, take the hand out of your mouth before speaking.”

Rui stared at you once before taking a bite of the human hand, chewing it, and then responded to you. “Mmmno. I never went to the village. I’ve been in one though..” The frustrated expression returned to Rui’s face.

“Don’t hurt yourself” You say ruffling his hair, causing him to pout. “Oh I have a meeting with the rest of the lower moons.. You wanna come?”

“Uhh, Thanks but no..”

“Huh- Wait Why?!” Rui asks moving closer to you. “We can clean the place later.. Or get a new one if you don’t wanna clean it-”

“I’m going down to the village.”

...

“But, what-”

“I’ll change my form and appear more human to them. They won’t suspect a thing.”

“But-”

“I just want to know what they do there. I’ll get something for you if I find anything ok?”

“...Why?” Once you look over at Rui, you can see that he wasn’t concerned about to going down to the village to investigate. He genuinely wanted to know why you wanted to go to the village and investigate. “I don’t know, I’m just curious..”

The sun relaxing gave you the chance to go to the village.

You saw kids playing with each other right at the entrance. Before you let them notice you, you remembered that you needed something to trade with before you could actually get anything. Hiding behind a tree, you saw a demon slayer walking towards the village. With your quick thinking, you let one of your smaller spiders loose to go bite the man. Once the guy had no control of his body or mind, you ran up to him and raided his pockets.

“Gum.. Pens... A stack of paper with a rubber band tying it in place....random paper...Wait.” You looked down at the Yen taking half of it. “How does the slayers get so much money? The police don’t know about them.. Nor does almost all of Japan. Fuck- I only heard about it the second I turned into one..” You ranted to yourself as you put the money back into the man’s pocket. “Thank you for the kind offer, motherfucker..” You flip off the slayer as you finally walk to the village.

“NOO onii-Chan!! You can’t do that! That’s cheating!”

“No it’s not! It’s apart off the rules!”

“Since when- huh? OH HI MISTER!” The two kids who were just arguing on a game, waved at you as if they knew you since birth. You politely wave back at them with a smile. “Oh! Hi sweetie! Are you new around here?” A older women walk up behind you with a soft smile.

“Oh! Um yeah! new! me. I am. Yes I’m new around here.” The kind woman smiled at your nervousness. “ Don’t worry sweetie everyone’s friendly here. We all know each other.. Do you need to help?”

I know nothing about this place and had an extreme fear of you guys finding out I was a demon, but here you are offering me to take a tour of this place makes me wanna cry-

“Yes and thank you for the kind offer.” you say bowing. “Oh it’s nothing sweetheart..”

“And over here is the bakery, where you can find the best baked goods and where most of us come over to chat.” The kind women, who would like to be called Yui, said ending the small tour of the village. “Thank you Madam Yui” you say bowing. “How can I ever repay you!”

“There’s no need for that, just stay healthy for me ok?”

“Of course!” Saying goodbye to Yui, You decided to walk into the bakery, you can probably get something tasty for Rui..

“Hey there! Your new around here aren’t you?” Someone shouted at you. “Uh, Yeah-”

“Lady Yui must’ve showed you around, didn’t she? Im Ashai!” This person is way to energetic You thought to yourself. “Hi I’m [Name], do you know if this place has anything chocolate or strawberry flavored?”

“Your in a bakery..Of course there’s gonna be something- OW Papa!” The kid got cut off by who he claims to be his father, smacking his head. “Go easy on him, he’s a newcomer.. I apologize for my son’s behavior..”

“It’s quite alright”

“Is there something specific you want? And do you need help carrying those bags? You have quite a lot..” You looked down at the multiple bags you were carrying, filled with candy, toys, books, and colored paper you bought while Madam Yui was showing you around. She recommend most of the stuff you have in your bags.. “No sir, thank you for the offer.”

“Ok.. What do you want kid?” Taking the guess he works here you answered his question saying you want something chocolate or strawberry related.

You were offered Swiss rolls. The name sounded appetizing to you so that's what you went with.

Ashai's Father went into the kitchen as you stayed at chatted with Ashai. You both talked about simple stuff. The events they do there in town, the type of schools they had, sports, and fun actives the kids and Adults like to do.

“Wait, what were those exploding bright lights from last night?” You asked. You watched as you saw Ashai’s expression turn from ‘What the hell is this guy talking about’ to ‘Have you been living under a rock your whole life?!’

“You mean fireworks?! Jeez have you been living under a rock or are you just dumb?”

“ASHAI!” A woman yelled walking over to you guys. “I deeply apologize for his behavior” She quickly apologizes. “Mom he doesn’t know what Fireworks are! What else was I supposed to say?”

“If you don’t apologize right now young man, your going back to work!”

“I’m Sorry” Ashai quickly apologized as his mother gave him a disappointed sigh. “Where are your parents honey? Are they coming later?”

“Oh I don’t have parents.” You say blankly as you stared at Ashai’s mother in the eye. Then you started to panic as she began to choke on air, but she refused to accept your help. “Uh um Does- does she need water?!” You turned to Ashai who had his hand over his mouth as he stared at you his complete sorrow in his eyes. “No- No mmmh I’m fine, I’m fine.”

“Here you go kid! Chocolate and Strawberry swiss rolls!” Ashai’s father said handing over the swiss rolls. “Honey are you ok?”

“I’m fine” She says still recovering. “Thank you sir! Here’s the money.” Handing Ashai’s father the money, you ask one more time if Ashai’s mother was ok. You were again told that she was ok.

“Ok then, I should get back home. Rui must be hungry..”

“Rui? who’s- who’s Rui?” Ashai asks. “ Oh My younger brother! I have to go now. Thank you for the swiss roll!” Not giving the chance for the mother to stop you, you ran out of the bakery and to the mountain to see if Rui finally arrived.

“Rui!? did you come back?” You called out, almost tripping over some loose hardwood. “mmh...” Rui answered tiredly as he lazily walked over to you. “Woah what happened? Was he angry again?”

“No, no. He wanted us to ‘hang-out’ with the upper moons. It was a whole training session... He claimed it was to help improve our skills. I had to be with upper moon 3.”

“Is that the one with a fan?” You asked, unpacking all the stuff you’ve gotten from the stores. “No, thats upper moon 2” Rui answered as he sat down next to you watching you as you unpack all the items.

You put a panda plush down and Rui immediately grabbed it. “It’s a panda... Can I have it?” You almost wanted to cry at the fact Rui was asking for something that was meant to be his. “Mhm keep it..”

Rui’s eyes lit up and he wore an excited expression the second you told him he could have the plush.

In complete awe, you quickly grabbed the camera Madam Yui suggested you’d get and took a picture of him. Rui jumped at the sudden flash. “What was that?”

“Oh it’s a camera.. Lady Yui, she’s the person who showed me how to use it. She also showed me around the village.. you wanna know something.. The village isn’t really a village.. It’s more of a town cause there’s stores almost everywhere.. or is it?...I don’t know, Just tell me what happened with upper 3″ The look in Rui’s eyes begged you to keep talking about the village town place you went to. But you gave him a look that told him to continue his story.

Rui pouted in defeat. “Um, upper moon 3.... All he wanted to do was train me until I died.”

“Um what-”

“Like at first upper moon 2 said he wanted me because I was a girl.. Then upper moon 3 punched his head off and carried me saying ‘no you can’t have this one’... All of a sudden upper moon 6(Daki) wanted me because I was a ‘cute girl’..”

“Did you explain to them that you weren’t a girl?” You asked, slightly confused why the upper moons couldn’t tell the difference between female and male. “Yeah, and upper moon 2 straight up left and went to lower moon 1 and ask if they were a girl.”

“Lower moon 1. That’s-”

“Yeah Enmu.”

“Did they-”

“They did..But that’s not the point. Upper moon 6 still wanted me-”

“Who did you want to go to?”

“Upper moon 4. She looked so calm and unbothered. Anyway, Upper moon 6 was begging upper moon 3 to give me to her but he refused too. So there was this whole debate about who would get me. Then she went to complain to her brother, but I didn’t get to see her brother because upper moon 3 took me to another part of the castle. That’s when he- What’s that?” Rui stopped his talking about his day once he saw you pull out the Swiss rolls from a box.

“Swiss rolls... Yeah Swiss rolls.. This one's Strawberry and this one's chocolate. I got it from the bakery. There's a lot of nice people there. I meant someone named Ashai.. he was scolded a lot but he was only speaking his mind.." You grabbed a fork, willing to take the first bite incase it didn't taste well. But Rui whimpering for you to let him have the first bite changed your mind. "Ok ok, say ahh"

Once Rui ate the Swiss rolls, he immediately begged for more. "No no give me another bite. I it taste so familiar.. and it so good. I wanna another bite."

"Do you remember anything?" You asked as you gave Rui another piece of the Swiss roll before you took your own. “mmh this is good.”

“You have to go back! This is so different from human meat.. I didn’t know humans cook so well... What’s that!” Rui climbed over you to grab something. “Woah! okok what is it?” You say placing Rui on your lap. “Oh This! Uhh Madam Yui told me this was pocky. She said lots of kids loved eating it.”

“Pocky? That’s a strange name..”

“Yeah that’s what I said.. There’s a ton of flavors I wanted to try with you..”

The whole night leading to the morning you both tried out all the flavors of Pocky you had bought.

You tried out the other snacks as well but the Pocky mostly.

Months had passed by and you were still visiting the village-town place. You hate to admit it, but you really did love to spend your there. Everyone was so friendly, and the kids were adorable. They always wanted to play with you or hear the stories you had about you and Rui.

You weren’t expecting any of the adults to listen as well, they seemed very interested of what you told the younger kids about Rui. They would ask you questions about your experiences, careful not to say ask anything that might offend you. They would often help you shop, picking out healthier snacks or they would straight up make you dishes for you and Rui to eat. Lots of the Mothers around the village like to give you advice. Just random advice for Rui. It’s strangely helpful..

You and Ashai became great friends over the few months. He would try his best to convince you to stay longer so you both can hangout all day. Your answer is always no and he knows it, but it doesn’t stop him from asking! Ashai has to reassure you that it’s ok that your getting stuff for free. You don’t listen to him and proceed to try and give the cashier your money. You get dragged out of stores a lot..

You were currently in your favorite snack store with Ashai and a bunch of little kids. They liked to follow you around when you told them about your “mysterious” brother.

“Oh and since I’m like the only family member left, he gets very clingy..I couldn’t even leave yesterday because-”

“Is he shy?” One of the little girls asked.

“Yes he is actually, Why’d you ask?”

“OH! Because my-my mom wanted to know why you don’t bring him here? And-and I wanted to-to know too!” The little girl answered bouncing. Soon all the kids started bouncing asking if you could bring Rui.

“Kids cut that out, Your being too loud.” A shopkeeper shushes the all the kids before handing you bags filled with new types of candy and other treats. “Thank your sir! How much-”

“Don’t worry about!” He says ruffling your hair. Sadly Ashai was incharge of your money, so you couldn’t try to give it to him. “You should bring your brother here..”

“Huh?”

“Your younger brother Rui? Doesn’t he get lonely when you leave? I’m sure if you bring him he’ll love it here.” You stare back at the shopkeeper before smiling. “I’ll think about it!”

“But [Name]-kun!” one of the kids whined. “Hey!” Ashai said grabbing the all the kids attention. “Maybe If we go over to the bakery and ask my dad to get Rui’s favorite pastry, we can write letters asking if Rui can come over!”

All the kids gasp in an excitement before running out of the store to start writing their letters. “My parents already know your here, your going home with a whole dinner again.” As you and Ashai leave the store, you smile at Ashai. “Everyone here is so nice.. I wasn’t expecting-”

“When you randomly said you didn’t have parents to my mother-”

“Yeah I know she choked.”

“She was also surprised how calm you were about it. And how you’re taking care of your younger on your own? I bet most of the stuff you buy is for him.”

“It is. He lost so much, he deserves-”

“That’s it. That’s exactly it!.. Your an orphan child with an orphan brother who cares you care deeply about! Are we supposed to be mean to you?”

“....Ok you have a point..”

“ Of course I do!” You playfully glared at his cockyness. “Right before you leave, all the kids are gonna give you letters for Rui to come here.. And I wanna see Rui’s expression when he reads them.”

You never really thought about bringing to him the village. He never really showed interest in coming either. But would he want to come? This was only supposed to be a little food grab. Yet you refused to eat any of these humans, there wasn’t a reason to either. Why would you want to eat these people. They’ve done so much for you..

“Wait can he read?” Ashai asks randomly. “Wait CAN YOU READ?!”

“ASHAI!”

“MOM IT WASN’T ME! I DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING!!”

“The person who made this is a good cook.. I like their food” Rui complimented for the 8th time. “The person themselves are a good person” you didn’t know exactly what you were trying to do but you were just hoping If you said a lot of nonsense about the people in the village he'll say something about it.

"There's new candy.. Where do they get these!"

"The shopkeeper is really good at keeping track what type of candy we like. It's really thoughtful of them"

...

Rui stared at you with a confused expression. "Wha.. For the past hour you've been saying things about the people in the village.."

"Don't know what your talking about.. I'm simply complimenting-"

"I'm surprised you didn't get caught yet.."

"Same..I don't think they would notice if your were a demon either.."

... "Wait what?" Rui put his [look up a food name] and itch the side of his face. You put your food down as well a gave him a comforting look. " I think they wouldn't notice if you were a demon either."

Rui now itch his neck in a way of showing his nervousness. He knew exactly what you were going to ask him, he just didn't know if he should say yes. It's always been him staying home or going to a meeting, while you went to the village to buy things.. possibly having fun with all the humans, meeting a lot of human mothers and fathers, helping a lot of the kind humans...

“You should come with me next time. I’m sure everyone will love you!” You pick up your food to take another bite out of it. Rui looked down at his own food and sighed.

“Do I have to change into something?”

Rui watched as the sun relaxed. He’s been watching it the whole day.

His heart was practically in his throat from how hard and fast it was pounding. Maybe this was a mistake.

“You ready?” You asked Rui. “No.. I...I don’t think this was a good idea..”

“Really? I think it’s a good idea.. Just look at you! They won’t notice a thing! You’ll love them trust me.” Rui already puts a lot of trust into, so letting him down was the last thing you wanted to do right now.

You led Rui through the forest, talking to him to try and ease his nerves. Rui personally didn’t know why he was so nervous. He’s just going to meet a whole bunch of humans that [Name] knows. It shouldn’t be so hard just to walk in there greet everyone and leave. Why was he so nervous?

As the spider siblings got closer to the entrance of the village, Rui felt like he was on the verge of fainting from how hard his heart was pounding.

“Hi! [Name]-kun! How are you- Is that Rui!?” A kid ask excitedly, alerting almost everyone at the village. People started to come out of there houses to come and adore Rui.

Rui, not expecting so much people to crowd him, was seconds away from using his threads to kill everyone before him, if it wasn’t for you grabbing both of his hands. “They're just excited to see you! you don’t need to kill them.” You reassure him, Turning him around to face the villagers.

Rui examined everyone. The kids with their overly excited expression, some of them literally jumping from excitement and the adults with there friendly smiles and kind remarks towards him.

It feels so.. foreign to him, yet so familiar. How long has it been since someone looked at him like that? Like he wasn’t this terrifying and disgusting monster? Instead, the women looked at him like he was their long lost child who was just found, the kids looked at him like their older brother just came out of his room to play with them, and the men looked at him like he just made them all proud. Rui was so overwhelmed by all of these kind gestures from complete strangers, he actually started to cry, making almost everyone freakout.

Madam Yui quickly grabbed a handkerchief to wipe the tears off his face. “Hey.. Sweetheart don’t cry.” instead of calming Rui down it only made him cry harder. Those few words reminded him of someone.. someone important to him.. but he couldn’t put his mind to whoever he was thinking about..

Rui lunged in to hug Madam Yui to cry in her chest. Madam Yui quickly hugged back to calm him, while the other villagers were either helping Yui comfort Rui, or went off to make Rui something for his visit.

“You didn’t say he was emotional?! almost everyone had a heart attack when he started crying!” Ashai said playfully punching you. “Well I didn’t know he was going to start crying!” you say returning a punch.

“We were planning on firing the fireworks- oh wait I’m sorry ‘Exploding bright lights’ tonight.. do you think you’ll be able to stay for them?” Ashai asks with complete “innocence” in his eyes. You playfully glared at him before turning to Rui. He has stopped crying and was know being offered a whole bunch of treats and pastries. You both made contact with each other, as if having a full conversation with your eyes only.

The eye conversation broke when Rui was offered a chocolate swiss roll. You looked back at Asahi with a smile on your face.

“We’ll be able to stay a little longer..”

spriggan 12 headcanon/rewrite thoughts

because that’s the mood i’m in today

this isn’t totally complete and there’s a bunch of stuff i haven’t fleshed out yet, but i wanted to get down what i have so far

the spriggan 12 are zeref’s inner circle of trusted wizards and major recurring villains throughout the series

all 12 of them stay against my better judgement, BUT not all of them are fighters

Jacob is more of a stealth/espionage kind of guy. He carries weapons (daggers, maybe a gun) for defense but mostly he’s a spy and an informant rather than a soldier

Invel is a tactician. I’m probably gonna change his magic to suit that role better (because god knows we don’t need another ice mage) : I’m considering either a heavier focus on the chains/mind control without the ice aspect, or some kind of foresight magic that lets him see multiple outcomes

Larcade is a healer and the head of the military’s medical division. Probably going to play up the whole “angel” thing he had going on in his design

August is the emperor’s advisor and the head of the 12 (though i may still make him a combatant on top of that, idk yet)

Alvarez started relatively small and slowly took over more and more of the surrounding area. It’s now a massive empire with a wide range of cultures

I want to change Brandish’s backstory pretty heavily, and give more detail as to how exactly she ended up in Alvarez, but part of me wants to keep her connection to Lucy

One thing I’m considering is having Brandish introduced pre-timeskip at the age of 17, years before she joins the Spriggans, and have her become one of them at some point over the course of the series (probably during the 7-year timeskip)

The machias live in a mountainous area to the west. They (supposedly?) willingly gave up their land and merged their military force with Alvarez. Wahl had a high rank among them (maybe a military general or royalty) and became their ambassador among the 12

If i decide to rewrite the whole manga i might make an arc involving the machias to flesh them out more

Bloodman plays a role as the overseer of Tartaros and appears during their arc. He has some conflict with Mard Geer, who doesn’t like the idea of another demon being ranked above him

I’m probably going to cut Irene’s connection with dragons/dragon slayers to focus more on her enchantment magic, and develop enchantment more as a reasonable magic type with reasonable limits

I kind of want to go somewhere with the connection Mashima hinted at between Irene and Neinhart. It’s not set in stone yet but the idea I had was that, since Neinhart is around the same age as Erza, Irene uses him to fill the emotional void of her “dead” daughter

Irene also meets Erza earlier in the series to give more time for the conflict between them, which comes to a head in the Alvarez arc

Serena is first introduced relatively early in the story as the strongest wizard saint, and we don’t find out until later that he was a double agent. He was close with the other Gods of Ishgar and is conflicted about betraying them for Alvarez. He also has less than the 8 dragon lacrima he has in canon, probably only 3 or 4, and we get some backstory as to how he ended up with them

On top of that, Serena faces some kind of consequence for having 4 different types of insanely OP magic, like worse motion sickness than the other dragon slayers

After Zeref saved Invel as a child (haven’t worked out the details yet), Invel devoted his life to serving him and ultimately became Zeref’s right-hand man

I want to put at least a bit more emphasis on the family connection between Ajeel and his grandfather

The backstory I had in mind for Ajeel was that both of his parents were former Spriggans who died in battle, and he was more or less raised by Yajeel instead

Dimaria possibly comes from a city that was frozen in time

I want to either make Cronos more relevant to Dimaria’s character and the story as a whole (maybe add a connection to Ankhseram) or remove him entirely

Not sure where I’m going to go with the Zervis child plotline, because... that really didn’t go anywhere at all in canon and them having a kid feels a little unnecessary. I might cut August’s familial connection to them and give him a completely different backstory. As for Larcade, he’s probably still going to be a demon who considers himself Zeref’s son

the character i least understand: like...anya probably? from a storytelling standpoint i don’t think the writers really agreed on what to do with her and from a relating standpoint she’s 1000+ years old and a former-then-again demon. they just didn’t really go into her character enough for me to say i understand her, and i think it’s easy to write her on a shallow level.

interactions i enjoyed the most: the easy thing to say is probably my ships right, and it is true that spike/buffy is my otp maybe mostly because i’m endlessly fascinated by their dynamics, but i also really love the og scoobies hanging out and especially the willow/xander friendship. beyond that i also loved tara&dawn and spike&dawn. and buffy&cordy, which i do ship but i brotp it more than otp most days. either way is good though.

the character who scares me the most: willow bc of below answer

the character who is mostly like me: willow. definitely willow. i’ve thought about making a photoset w characters i id w the most and she’d be dead center. i sometimes can’t even enjoy her character, especially at cringey moments, because of that, and i recognize that her worst qualities are some of mine too. i don’t think i’d try to destroy the world but thankfully i shouldn’t ever have the opportunity.

hottest looks character: faith? i totally change my answer every time bc i’m a cheating bisexual (this is the one scenario where that stereotype is correct)

one thing i dislike about my fave character: i’m going to use buffy as my fave here bc i’ll talk about cordy below. (i like to think about myself as having 3 types of faves in each fandom: the fave to watch, the one i id with, and the one i’d die for. buffy’s the latter.) writing-wise i dislike how we lose a lot of access to buffy’s inner mind. person-wise i guess her black-and-white thinking? it’s pretty necessary to her work and it’s obviously not as bad as like...riley’s but i think it’s detrimental to her in that she doesn’t seek out the help she needs. she wants to be all-slayer or all-buffy, she wants things to be all bad or all good.

one thing i like about my hated character: i guess my hated character is riley bc using a villain seems cheatish (i thought saying warren, and he makes star wars references). i actually have a lot in common with riley, which i’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but i really like how he tried to be involved with buffy’s family? like obviously later in s5 that turned into him acting weird and entitled about it but at the beginning when he’s trying to befriend dawn and such is sweet and good.

a quote or scene that haunts me: ummm all of them tbh. but to pick a random one i think a lot about the scene of buffy just staring at the water coming out of the faucet. also another water-related one, when i watch the body i’m always struck by the weird water purifier/cooler thing you see in their kitchen bc we had that exact same one in the house i lived in before my father passed away. getting personal i guess but the first time i watched it that floored me.

a death that left me indifferent: all of them affected me a lot i feel but jonathan’s definitely had less impact than i feel like it should given he’d been on the show for like 5 seasons by that point. and i like him as a character! i guess it got really subsumed into andrew’s character arc which kinda sucked, and it was played up more as a villain moment.

a character i wish died but didn’t: none of them i love my kids

my ship that never sailed: faith/buffy!!!! why...

angel

the character i least understand: maybe lorne? again like with the anya thing this is a character with a potentially fascinating backstory and a very unique perspective and we get just a little taste of it. love him though

interactions i enjoyed the most: i really loved the whole gang’s interactions tbh but wesley&gunn’s friendship deserves a special shout out. also doyle and angel did so much with that bond in so few episodes. and i also really liked lindsay’s interactions with angel for some reason, idk. maybe because he brings out angel’s petty side.

the character who scares me the most: probably angel, right? not angelus but when angel himself teeters into Badness territory. i’m both scared of him and scared for him.

the character who is mostly like me: either fred or angel. i get compared to fred a lot irl and online from people who’ve seen it mostly bc i have the same vague face concept as amy acker and also a southern accent, and i am in stem and whatever but i never felt like there was a lot there for me to latch onto. imo fred was a major missed opportunity too, they didn’t flesh her out nearly as much as they could have. anyway they’re both kinda awkward and introverted and same.

hottest looks character: uhhh it’s cheating to say faith here again i guess but i’m doing it anyway.

one thing i dislike about my fave character: so i love cordy to death (obviously) i loved her almost immediately on buffy and only managed to love her even more but obviously she is very self-centered and could be a better friend sometimes...i guess...and i’m not gonna mention the travesty of her writing in s4.

one thing i like about my hated character: i guess that’s gonna be wesley? who i don’t hate at all i just felt like everything started getting drawn into the Orbit of his Manpain in the later seasons BUT i love dorky!wes to death. like “rogue demon hunter” wes. that’s the wes for me.

a quote or scene that haunts me: like not to be obvious but the “nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do” MURDERS me every time like i honestly find so much meaning in that. but i also think about cordy accepting the demon at the end of “birthday” and almost cry every time she’s just so brave and strong and willing to be better and i’m upset.

a death that left me indifferent: wes again? i’m sorry y’all are gonna murder me. it’s not that it left me indifferent but after cordy and fred died...and not long after lilah either and lorne is over here shooting lindsay...i didn’t have many emotions left sorry

a character i wish died but didn’t: uhmmm none of them honestly except if s4 was a character

my ship that never sailed: WELL honestly angel and cordy never got to be together at all...but they did admit they loved each other...but my only other real ship here was wesley/lilah so idk, they were both tragic and barely happened so take ur pick, joss whedon hates my happiness :/ oh wait snap! i was actually a little invested in angel and kate before that arc got thrown out the window. so them i guess.

the character i least understand: excluding like...todd...of the main cast probably shirley. not that i don’t understand her exactly but it’s yet another case of writers not really knowing what to do with a character and her writing sometimes being very uneven. obviously it’s a comedy so i’m not expecting in depth explorations of every detail but i did feel like there were lots of blanks about her past/motivations/etc that just got ignored. still love her though.

interactions i enjoyed the most: well obviously i love annie/abed platonically or romantically...and i also ship britta/jeff so them too. there wasn’t nearly enough britta/annie which i also ship both ways. i also loved the weird dynamic with annie being pierce’s favorite...and shirley&jeff!! underutilized but always good.

the character who scares me the most: hmm i was really worried about jeff for a while there.

hottest looks character: annie, alison brie is a flawless goddess of sexiness and humor. that said thanks to aforementioned identification i can’t crush on annie per se? but divorced from personality she wins for sure.

one thing i dislike about my fave character: so my favorite to watch is britta and i had a really hard time with some of her cringier psych-major material bc i’ve known so many irritating psych majors like that. mmmmmmmmnnnnnnnuuuugh. hard to sit through. good stuff but cringey
