Every time I play Pokémon Scarlet I always end my play session by running over to Arven's room to complain about something or to give him a summary of what i did or whatever
Which is ESPECIALLY funny when it comes to the DLC because my character is flying across ENTIRE REGIONS just to complain to this poor man

Jacob’s first days helping out around the house go well. He’s overenthusiastic to do it all, so Caroline and Tommy have had some more free time. Mostly he helps fix up broken appliances and tends to the garden with his mom.
Today he goes to town and runs into Altha. She’s had her birthday recently, too, a few days after his.
“We should go out by the river. Behind my house.” Jacob suggests. “I’m done with everything for the day.”
“Let’s go before my mother sees.” Altha grins and hurries away across the bridge. “Just because we’ve gotten older, she thinks we need supervising.”
“I just know my father will be the same.” Jacob groaned, following close behind. For him, it was all the more fun to have to be sneaky about spending time with his friend.
They spent the day fishing, although none of them were able to catch anything. And for once Jacob was home early enough to catch his siblings coming back from school.

how to build a chair........... director's cut ∠( ᐛ 」∠)__ this is about to be a very long very self-indulgent post where i just talk about my own writing. i also doodled on all the pages i think it makes the whole thing more fun to go thru. welcome to my ted talk
SIKE before i begin. credit where credit is due, this post was the start of it all. it changed my brain chemistry my jaw was dropped i was in awe i was obsessed and before i even finished it i knew that i would eventually have to make something similar for the commander or else i would be cursed to think about it for the rest of my life. and i Was cursed for like two years every day i would just be like........ is today the day i sit down and draft the commander chair fic of my dreams....... maybe tomorrow......
and then i got accepted as a writer for the gw2 zine ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ the chair idea was actually my backup option in case my first idea didn't pan out, and thank god it didn't, bc this one worked so much better. (still working on my initial idea, just turning it into a full fic! it was wayyy too long to be a zine submission.)
this is the chair i used. i downloaded the assembly instructions and tried out a bunch of different free pdf editors until i found one i liked, which ended up being sedja. if anyone's interested in doing something like this, i recommend printing out the pdf and writing directly on it! it was a lot easier for me to just figure out everything on paper first and then digitalize it after :P here's a picture of my physical copy

4. if your commander willingly goes to therapy i'm happy for them but TO ME? you'd have to drag the commander kicking and screaming. it's not that they don't know that something is wrong with them, they know, and they know YOU know. you're just never supposed to talk about it. they don't look at their own psych eval results bc that's none of their business.
5. i normally avoid specifying the commander's race when i write them bc i enjoy the challenge, but for the zine i was assigned to write about a norn commander! as a human main i was uhhhh very ill-equipped. but that just meant i had to study up on my norn lore (•̀ᴗ•́)و i spent hours on the wiki, then went around interviewing norn mains for their opinions, which was great fun :D it all helped me narrow the focus of my piece: joining the war on commander objectification on the side of commander objectification (ㅅ´ ˘ `)♡ and no one self-aggrandizes quite like the norn commander!
and to balance that i knew my narrator had to be patronizing as shitttt. they've clearly been following the commander since the beginning and seem to know a lot of intimate details about their life, despite not thinking very highly of them. wonder who that could be :3c
6. i can't stop making references. so the original part number is actually #122620 in the manual but i've changed it here (and on the previous page!) to #082812, as in 08/28/12, the date gw2 was released! no real reason for it, @dalennaugw suggested it for funsies and i liked it. if you're my pal and i show you a wip and you have a cool idea for it, chances are i Will put that shit in. hi dale if you're reading this
7. another thing about me. i loveeee repetition. here the word "over" is repeated four times to match the picture. honestly a lot of the creative process for this piece was just staring at the pages and figuring out how to tie the pictures to the commander in ways that weren't extremely corny or trite. idk why i enjoy writing like this when i could be frolicking in the beautiful prosaic meadows of a word doc instead but. it's like i see a tiny little restrictive box and i'm like OH BOY can't wait to think inside of that thing!!! i like when the format matters just as much as the content and in some cases informs the content. am i making any sense here. well all you need to know is that i'm a virgo and my favorite book is house of leaves
7. aw fuck just realized i wrote 7 twice. whatever i'm not changing it this is 7 part two now. the theme of my piece is glory, what it means to the norn commander, and how far they're willing to go for it.
8. does norn culture place emphasis on seeking individual glory Yes are norn also very community-oriented Also Yes. i think it's common to see norn kids napping together in a big pile, usually after they've worn themselves out playing games outside. it makes sense practically (apes together warm) and socially (pack bonding good) but that's just my hc. growing up i used to share a bed with my cousins all the time so it's normal to me.
a young, naive not-yet-commander, with no real combat experience, has no point of reference to compare a "blaze of glory" to. but the way everyone talks about it, it must be a good thing. a wonderful thing. a reward fit for a life well-fought and a legend hard-earned. so they imagine it must feel like falling asleep surrounded by the people they love, who love them in turn.

11. out of all the pages, this one has the most emphasis on text placement, like comparing the enlarged picture of the screw to a sword, the numbers counting the screws, and "up up up" being arranged to mimic a wisp of smoke.
i also wanted to lean into the viking/norse mythology influences with my word choice.
12. more nods to norn culture. i didn't know they referred to the six human gods as "spirits of action" until i was doing the research for this piece :O
and the domain of the lost is called a hall of ghosts....... cause valhalla.....

"how to build a chair" was only supposed to be a placeholder title til i figured out a better one, but the innocuousness of it grew on me. also i came up with the other one too late and had already advertised under the chair title lol
20. my first instinct was to end it with something more reassuring, like "what you have built so far is enough" but that would've been an ooc switch-up for a narrator who has been nothing but snide and detached this whole time. gotta stick to my guns

obligatory chair joke as the last line. for realsies though it’s meant to be an earnest appeal to the commander to take a break, to have a seat, but it’s also a challenge. are they willing to lean on their friends? are the bonds they’ve forged strong enough to hold their weight? are they willing to put their faith in someone else’s hands? are they brave enough to try? well. only one way to find out.

ok this post probably won’t make sense to a lot of you but.
pinterest culture…?
i’m not talking about the, like, recipes side of pinterest, or the aesthetic photos side of pinterest. i’m talking about the pretty specific subsection of like, tumblr screenshots and badly edited facebook memes, and mentally ill gay teenagers. i myself, am on this side of pinterest, i’ll admit.
there’s some, like, niche pinterest micro celebrities, for example, pickle man, erm what the frick, johnny the mommy, etc etc. whenever they’re seen in a comment section, there’s at least one person saying “omg you’re everywhere!1!!11”
another example, pinterest commenters are special. there’s like…inside jokes, just like on tumblr, but..idk

you can probably find that exact thread if you just look through the comments a bit. now, this type of thing is fine, of course, we all love inside jokes.
but, starting off as a pinterest kid, that became like, ingrained in my brain, so whenever im on tumblr my immediate reaction is to say shit like, “i want you” “i have a crush on you” instead of just “what”.
another thing, pinterest fucking sucks. and everyone on there (the gay side of pinterest, i mean) knows it. the ui sucks, especially on the browser version, the dms hardly work, and pins just disappear sometimes. lots of brands (i guess?) will take like ‘memes’ and upload it to pinterest, to get people to click, and take them to some shitty article. this leads to, fuckin idk, a picture of some tumblr post with the ifunny logo, and the title of the pin is like Top Ten Ways Wives Aren’t Satisfying Their Husbands.
pinterest hate culture, is also very interesting. for example, if you mention, say, ed sheeran, or look for ed sheeran pins, it’s so. much. hate. and then there’s troll/bait accounts, that exclusively make posts going against the grain so they’ll get attention. because there’s another thing, pinterest users fucking suck at ignoring bait. the boyfriends comic (? i think it’s called that) has so much hate on there. i’ve never even read it but i know so much from people talking about how shit it is. those pinterest kids are crazy, they talk to the obvious bait accs and tell them to “sayori challenge” (video game character that took her own life). i could go into the mogai/xenogender discourse but that’s a whole other post.
so. pinterest. it’s crazy.
why’d i write all this but i can’t write one fucking science paper oh my god.

Lenore will not hate Annabel forever
this might be really bias and i could be wrong but COME ON. i've seen a couple fics on Ao3 and posts on here saying they are never ever ever getting back together and i just don't think that's true. i do think that this is the divorce arc, they are not happy right now but then again when are they ever. however there is too much tension for it all to end seemingly so early in the story. we don't even know the full story of how they died yet, why would they completely separate with no chance of future connection. now, i don't think theyll end happily ever after. i think that this will be a tragedy or at the very least bitter sweet. but Lenore will not loose all affection for Annabel, their relationship is too integral for that.
Also literally all outside art of them is romantic. even in the midst of this dramatic rift between them we got super sexy vampire art (seemly based on Carmilla but i haven't read that yet so idk). i just don't believe a story about a couple going from star crossed lovers to bloodthirsty enemies would promote itself like a tragic, gothic romance the way nevermore has. but admittedly this was not a well structured argument and i might be challenging an empty room idk how many people think this. maybe ill right a full essay one day idk

Do you know any shows or movies in dutch or even music? Im trying to improve my skills (but this language is terribly complicated)
I wrote a post on dutch songs a while back so ill pm it to you. However media is a different story, and I'm actually not that great on media, even in English- but i will show you where i learned basic dutch aka important words aka… very random words.

(everyone clap)
hello dear reader would you like to TRUST NOBODY? yes. okay. cool. picture this. you are a semi famous dutch person and you, along with nine other dutch people go off to a foreign country to complete super cool challenges (opdrachten) and earn money to go towards a group pot. except there’s a twist. theres a saboteur (de mol) and their whole purpose is to ensure the least amount of money enters that pot. during this de mol must obviously gain the trust of the group (kandidaten) and the kadidaten have to figure out who de mol is. at the end of the episode theres often a test and execution in which the participants have to answer 20 questions re who the mol is (questions include things like ‘what city was de mol born in’ ‘how much money did de mol earn in the lasergame’) and whoever does the worst has to go home. the mol can never go home. the winner is the person who guesses de mol with the most correct answers in the final and they get the contents of the pot. im not kidding when i say this show is equal parts hilarious (bc they’re human and do stupid shit), suspenseful and very fun (bc you can play at home!).
Some of my favourite seasons include:
Season 18. This season is my favourite by far. Had one of the gutsiest mols, all around good group and honestly one of the best game show reality TV plot twists of all time. Art’s last season as host, too.
(Also I definitely stole his surname for my OC bye.)
Season 19: Idk why this ones here I just felt like including it. I actually think the 2018-2021 era of widm is the best one so that’s why im putting it here, and this season is fun. Cool mol reveal too.
Anniversary Season: Honestly I definitely recommend watching some older seasons before diving into this bc they definitely reference shit from old seasons and bring back old mols, but asides from this the mol this season was pretty good and Tuscany is lovely to look at. Fun group too full of old kandidaten.
Season 14: Unpopular I know but I loved the mol this season- they definitely reminded me of myself but also I just remembered this season as being super fun with cool opdrachten. Also a really important thing gets introduced here which was a staple in newer seasons
Season 13: The superior South Africa season with a very fun mol.
Season 21: Honestly? Shit mol this season, I figured it out via a DREAM but the kandidaten this season are iconic and it has one of the best alliances in widm history in my opinion. Czechia is stunning and it was the first time i guessed de mol too
Season 11: Watch for nothing if not Art Rooijakkers and the most unsafe opdrachten ever.
(If you want my opinion on any other season pm me lol, it’s late and I don’t want to type them all but SEASON EIGHTEEN!!!)
Anyways all episodes are on YouTube with English subs, just google widm English subs and you’ll find them. The seasons often ten episodes long, 1 hour per episode, with the final episode being the mol reveal. I think if you want that channel also supports dutch subs but i cannot remember rn!

that big huge brain of yours <3 but also how well you can articulate everything that's going on up there. reading your meta made me go 'i want to write like that'... almost two years ago now. not in terms of your style, but your standards: well-researched, well-argued... i think you're still leagues ahead of me in terms of articulating things clearly (as i may be demonstrating right now lmao) but tbh you're leagues ahead of most. and i think that's not just about 'sounding smart' it's also about writing in plain language that most people can understand.
like if i wasn't sooo delighted every time you asked my opinion on something, i spat out some word salad filled with "kind ofs" and "maybes" and "idk but" just for you to process it and rephrase it in a much clearer (and MUCH more brief) way, always to confirm, never condescend... then i might have developed an inferiority complex lmao.
also i think it's great that you ask people for their opinions on things whenever they express interest in your opinions. so much talk about 'fandom community' and it can just be like... talking to people, explaining what you liked and what you didn't like in your own words without relying too much on inside jokes and buzzwords... sharing meta and encouraging people to share their own.
that had a really big impact on me early on in my mash fandom days. while it's possible i would've started this blog anyway and eventually started making gifs and memes etc, it started out with meta and i associate my earliest meta posts with our very first conversations about MASH.
one other thing: i feel like having you as an editor for my fics is the one brag i am confident and comfortable making re: anything related to fandom. i value your friendship first and foremost, but having a beta who is thorough, technically competent and willing to challenge me, has unlocked potential in my work that i don't think i could have ever achieved on my own. i have the best editor in the not-a-business, fight me :3

Top 5 fics - Not sure if these are my Top Five of All Time™ (after all I've been reading fic since 13 💀) but I tried picking 5 different fics I've really loved from different fandoms
F1 - Second Star to the Right by @\gufettogrigio - Surely one of the most beautiful brocedes/princess cake fics ever. This is kind of weird to say but it Not to expose myself but I specifically loved it because of how raw and accurate the depiction of mental illness is. There are specific quotes in this that I think about all the fucking time and I've reread it at least half a dozen times over the past three months. That says a lot about me tbh.
Merlin - Pianos are made for falling by fishwrites - Devastating. Haunting. One cannot simply move on from this. Lowkey scared to reread it because it would wreck me.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - A steel hand inside a velvet glove/丝绒铁腕 by Huoshao - It's a shame not everyone can read chinese because it's the best post-canon Napollya longfic hands down. It's super famous amongst Chinese fans of western media–I've come across people who watched the movie because they wanted to read the fic.
Enhypen - Bestie Vibes Only by @\drivestraight. Fun fact: this is how I discovered Val, her F1 fics were very much a pleasant surprise for me. Genius writing that managed to pull off the cliche college au by having the most insanely messy intra-group dynamics. Beautifully insightful descriptions of love, especially at the end.
Inception - Autonomic by radishface (+ the sequel How to use a lifejacket) - As an Inception rarepair truther (cobb/arthur... don't judge I have my reasons) I owe my life to the more open-minded livejournal authors tbh. A lot of good shit out there but I'm particularly fond of radishface. One of the first fics I downloaded to my hard drive for archival.
(additional shoutout to the garden of eden by relationshipcrimes. I haven't consumed the source material (persona 5) so I can't judge the characterisation but this genuinely is one of the most horrific + devastating things I've ever read. pandi why would you rec this to me)
Top 5 artists I'd like to see live (excluding mcr & fob–they're my top priority but I've already seen them):
草东没有派对/No Party for Cao Dong - One of my favourite bands, their latest album is insane in terms of musicality, even if you don't understan Chinese it's still really good!! It's my dream to see them live.
Seong-Jin Cho - My favourite classical pianist <333 I'd sell a lung to see him play Chopin
The Killers - Idk singing along to their hits would cure me
Mãneskin - They would be so fun to see live oh my godddddd

If it's okay to ask, I'm curious what your initial thoughts are on the potential plot for the Insomniac Spidey sequel game! I'm still sorting my thoughts, but one of the things that definitely crossed my mind was how the story trailer reminded me of both TASM films (eg. terminally ill Harry as a major villain, the main villain plot being forcibly 'healing' the world, and we know from the MM post-credits scene that Connors is behind Harry's treatment with the symbiote, etc.), and while the main issue with the eugenics stuff in the TASM films is how it was framed as being both real and good and neither Peter nor the narrative ever challenges it, rather than just the villains being villainous and it could go differently here, I'm really not sure how optimistic to be at this point in speculation - but it's also not an aspect of the trailer I've seen much discussion on either.
having gone over the original game again, (geez I forgot how hard they went on the Spider-Cop bit) I still don't feel as pessimistic on this plot point as others seem to be... yet.
MSM1 had parallels to TASM1 too, without fumbling the ball as hard. Main villain starts as an ally researching limb replacement, partially for themselves; plot turning point is a Oscorp gene-cure-mist being released into the city with terrible results. It helps that Insomniac's medical science is just 50% less bullshit. Devil's Breath names a real genome editing tech (CRISPR by viral vector) and genetic diseases that aren't just disabling, but fatal (cystic fibrosis, Huntington's) as the intended target. There's no TASM-esque twist where victims with improperly edited genes become a ''devolved'' ''lower lifeform'' or turn murderous. They just get sick.
Otto doesn't consider using Devil's Breath on himself. His condition isn't even genetic. Dumb to have to point that out, but TASM Curt compares limb loss to agonizing death by disease (??) and proposes his amputation be "fixed" with genetic modification (???) while Otto's focus is on (embellished) mobility aids. The idea that brain damage from the arms made Otto evil is brought up and then refuted. Martin and Otto have social + financial motivations which overlap with but aren't fully defined by disability. They're well-intentioned extremists: they want to take down a crooked capitalist who's politically untouchable... time to poison random civilians!
Going by these trends: I expect Harry to have a fairly realistic diagnosis and to use real assistive aids alongside any sci-fi treatments (he has a cane for a second in the trailer). I expect that if he did inherit his condition it was from his mother, and the only person who might be weird about that is Norman. Insomniac Harry's previous vision for "healing the world" has been air and water quality, green energy, and wildlife health. If this changes, I expect a more nuanced explanation than "idk he's sick and crazy now".
Will I actually like it? Who knows! (Like MJ was fine. but she's not My MJ.) I'm still crossing my fingers for sentient alien Venom because I think it would make everything more interesting to have Venom the character rather than just the plot device.
I'm truly more worried for Curt--most of the Insomniac plotlines are pulled from modern comics. (For the love of god please let's not do Shed.) But comics Devil's Breath was a poison that killed only certain genetic lineages, and someone made the call to avoid that minefield of weird ideas. So. Hope remains that this will not be the TASM movies' kind of freakshow.

u really flatter me but tbh I don’t think there’s any real metric for good it’s just - like if I could give any writer advice it would be to play to ur strengths!! AND play to ur desires!!! if ur great at dialogue make your story dialogue forward, have that be the driving force of most plot points, if you’re very good at symbolism and like making stuff flowery fertilize away!!!! ensure that what ur making is something you would love and want as a reader ifl is an important thing. its like. obviously there’s time constraints for everything and stuff, people have busy lives, it’s hard to maintain energy levels high enough to write let alone review ur own work, but i do genuinely think i spend more time reading over and trying to Experience my writing than i do actually writing it out. also I do a lot of rewriting. not everything needs to be rewritten or improved upon, u could have banger scenes that u wrote in one go and barely changed, or you could have banger scenes that u revised and grappled with multiple times… at the end of the day a banger is a banger…!! even if it takes over a year. which is what happened with me…! JFJSJDJD
plus like. just really love whatever it is ur making. be a storyteller and love ur story!!! stand by it!!! as a person im very anxious and i do get those AHHHHH WHAT IF THIS SUCKS WHAT IF EVERYONE HATES IT I SHOULD JUST—blah blah blah yknow. i realize the further away i get from my work the less i believe in it. aka i get less WHAT IF IT SUCKS feelings when i actually read my work. and if u read ur work and u think it sucks! challenge why you feel that way. figure out if you have a genuine story related problem you need to solve OR if it’s just your brain being mean to you. sometimes i feel like leaning into that voice in your head can help you realize what is it you TRULY want. in a story that is. in real life idk what i want at all

what's your favourite sims death?
ngl i dont actually have one, im terrified of any of my babies dying so they never do...but i guess old age maybe? because that means theyve lived a long life and ive played with them for a long time?

alpha HANDS DOWN...i dont hate mm by any means dont get me wrong, but ill always be an alpha girl at heart. its the alpha hairs, they always get me.
do you cheat your sims weight?
only if it fits their character i guess? not usually in gameplay.
do you move objects
i move objects every single day.
fave mod?
ooofff i mean out of necessity? nraas. but just the one i love? hands down pose player. mostly because i was so excited when i finally got it to work (i was like 13 or something and before then i could not figure out how to get mods to work) so a lot of happy memories from finally getting my sims to pose.
first expansion/game pack/stuff pack?
my first ever was sims 2 glamour life stuff pack when i was a kid. if we're talking sims 3, i believe the first pack i got was generations, which is still my favourite sims pack ever.

i pronounce it LIVE, always have as far as i know.

well, its gotta be elodie honestly. she and eli are the longest sims i have ever had and i love them both dearly. in the sims 4, its gotta be my girl pippa. before tumblr? i had this family called the moretti's, i miss them and i think about them way too often. i loved them all.

oh yeah. loads of times. i think ive shared my sims 3 and sims 4 variations on tumblr (but they look really weird tbh). i love making myself, cause then i can wear all these clothes i cant afford in real life.

im mostly joking, but usually sims 3 hairs are a no go for me, except for some store ones and the hairs that are pulled back into buns always look really nice. for sims 4, only the newer ones. the older ones are not for me.

young adult. i feel like you can always do more with young adult sims and you have so much more time (except in sims 1 i believe?and sims 2 only if u went to uni?? idk). 90% of my sims are forever young adults because i love that life stage so much.
are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
mate ive been trying to build for donkeys years to no avail. so im almost always in it for the gameplay.

as in sims or gameplay? idk ill talk about both. gameplay wise, not much, except im weirdly a lot more controlling then i was over my sims WHOOPS. but i still cant get passed gen 2 so that hasn't changed. but i still prefer family gameplay, probably always will. and challenges, always challenges. sims wise? a lot.

of all time? generations, no doubt in my mind. i never had any sims 1 or sims 2 expansions, so i never got to experience those unfortunately. generations was perfection though. i mean, boarding school? lifesaver. also led to the best sims series of all time: lifesimmer's generations. for sims 4 though? probably get together, purely because of the world.

i'm not a swiftipop or anything but apparently people are being shit that she at all mentions mental illness because... there's no way she could understand?? as if there aren't a variety of mental illnesses that manifest in a variety of ways, as if mental illness isn't actually pretty fucking common, as if she's never had a bad day in her life
