Hey anyone else remember the episode of Adventure Time called "Evergreen" where it's revealed that the original bearer of the crown to whom it was "forever linked" was actually a neglected child (and prior reincarnation of Finn) named Gunter trying to be like his wizard father?? Anyone??? Because I had fully forgotten until re-watching the episode last night and I'm losing my mind about the implications.

(This episode is also a devastating look at how a mistreated child unconsciously learns that he must treat himself and those he has power over as cruelly as he has been treated. Adventure Time has so much sadness and madness, y'all.)

not gonna lie homos and homies, there's something incredibly, incredibly depressing about Batmanverse and the concept of Batjokes in particular, and it's not the murder murder stab stab death plots.
It's the collective unmentioned canon agreement around these characters never being able to escape the confinements of their narrative.
they get pushed to the very edges of their predefined thresholds, they toe the lines of their stories, they poke it and probe it and sometimes even flirt with the possibility of crossing the bounds of their narratives, but they never break throught the structure. they never go over the line, always sorta of wiggling in place; batjokes in particular is the most enticing and intriguing stagnant 85+ years story i have ever seen.
There are unspoken rules around who Batman is, what he will and will not do, and those rules are rarely questioned, if ever. No matter what he does, he cannot be in love with a man, and he cannot ever love Joker in particular. He cannot experience mental and emotional peace. he cannot kill and he cannot show sincere emotional vulnurability, he cannot experience his love in an open and unashamed way. His narrative thresholds confine him to a socially sanctioned image that is meant to be familiar and tangible to the average straight dude, and it's quite frankly exhausting to witness. Whatever happens to Batman's story, he never arrives at physical emotional or mental peace and on a foundational level his tale never changes, not really. You can almost feel it when he constantly bumps into this unspoken narrative rules and stops in his tracks, each and every goddamn time, for 85+ years. It's like a keyed up nutcracker toy soldier bumping into a wall, stumble back two steps, bump into the walls, stumble back two steps, bumpt into the wall,
As someone who loves stories that love to question their own narrative points and break through them and do something different, staring at Batmanverse comics for too long at a time lowkey feels heartbreaking, nothing ever truly changes in this bitch.

in the newest installment of the fence saga:
the workmen have shown up today to take down the trees on the boundary for the fence to go up in the right spot (free logs for me!) and let me tell you. there are about 8 15-25ft high trees there. hardwood trees.
they have two handsaws.
not even a chainsaw.
i wished them good luck while laughing my ass off.

Sure Meta, just because I post a story to Instagram means I want to cross post it to my Facebook stories.
Yeah I really want my family to see this. That would be one surefire way to get them to talk to me again. Butts.

a fun thing about 🍬 is that ever since learning about coppiced trees he's been maybe kind of obsessed with them and the local woodlands used to be working woodlands so they're absolutely full of them.
I've never seen a man so delighted by trees. like just getting so excited about almost every tree he saw, which was a lot given the location. incredibly whimsical experience

I just had two dreams in quick succession that had me groggily coming out of them with tears in my eyes. Both of them centered around some symbol that was clearly of importance to me, but that I don't actually recognize. One I saved from its own guilt so I could embrace it again, and the other I tried to nurture back to health when she was on her last limb. Both dreams spoke to how much I cared about the figures in them— but I don't know that fox, I don't know that tree. Why did I want to reconnect with them so badly? Why did I want to save them so badly?

(Previous) Hank nodded. Peepers had definitely made the right choice in purchasing units. Hank grinned at Peepers' elbow. He felt something weird bubble up inside but ignored it. "I knew that forests were hard to model but not really about exactly how exact battles need to be planned," Hank didn't really think or know about battles or planning them, "Why do they have to be planned so exact?" Hank was really interested in what Peepers was saying and was glad he wasn't preoccupied with the whole going on strike against Lord Hater thing still. "I'd love to help you work on something like that," Hank said, "It would be fun to measure all those trees."
"Glad to hear you're interested! That's one less person I have to draft into it." Peepers glanced at the data on Hank's tablet. "I take it you don't mind tedious work."
"And in battle, the slightest mistake could spell defeat! Potentially one you can't come back from."
"Which is why it's important to be prepared for any possibility. Not only do you need to do all in your power to prevent your own blunders, but you need to know how to spot and exploit the enemy's!"
"So I plan for the best, worst, and all in-between! And to figure out exactly what those situations are I need to gather as much information as I can, then model it as accurately as possible! Especially when I'm inherently at a disadvantage with always fighting on someone else's home turf..."
"Nothing magnifies that disadvantage more than a dense forest! They're practically the cornerstone of guerilla war-"
At some point Peepers had raised his voice in the midst of his passionate rant. He cut himself off the instant he realized it, then peaked out the door to check that the halls were clear.
As he did so, he whispered to Hank, "...Do you think anyone heard me?"
