Not me getting emotional over people saying that Harrow doesn't care about Gideon, like. How do y'all even read books 😭😭

Anyway here's a completely factual list of things Harrow does throughout GtN and HtN (no Nona because she's barely in Nona) that show Harrow may be incredibly bad at expressing her emotions but she cares very deeply, indeed:

GtN:

- Harrow is the first to pay Gideon a compliment

- Harrow leaves bread for Gideon even though she herself is overwhelmed by food and doesn't eat breakfast

- Harrow thinks someone is dangerous and immediately decides to take them on herself instead of putting Gideon in danger (she thinks she is giving Gideon the safe/easy task)

- Harrow refuses lyctorhood when she finds out the price , even though it's all she's wanted and it's the only thing that will save her house (and she knows she NEEDS to save her house and continue Anastasia's line)

- Harrow begs Gideon not to die

- Harrow says she "cannot conceive a world without [Gideon]"

- Upon becoming a lyctor the first thing she does is beg the Emperor for Gideon's life

- And when he says no, sorry impossible, she says "how can you ask me to live with it?"

HtN:

- Upon becoming a lyctor, Harrow, genuius extraordinaire, decides that if she lobotomizes herself to forget Gideon and override her name, it MIGHT save her soul (she isn't even sure if it will work! It's the only thing she has to try) even though she knows this risks her own life (not to mention her brain, which is like the one thing she is incredibly proud of)

- She spends the next few weeks puking and being mad generally having a pretty bad time of lyctorhood

- she dies even Gideon's name on her lips even though! She doesn't even know! Who Gideon is!

- her mind reconstructs several AUs of her relationship with Gideon

- she repeats their wedding vows from GtN

- Upon remembering Gideon, she is extremely happy that her scheme worked

- She threatens to hurt anyone who says Gideon killed herself and insists Gideon was murdered

- Upon learning that Gideon's soul is in control of her body she decides to take a nap in the tomb/(pocket dimension?) Instead of reclaiming her body and destroying Gideon once and for all.

And this is just like. Completely factual information, i haven't included any of the meta or allusions or parallels to other relationships that are drown. This is just. A list.

One of our neighbors is this nosy lady with an awful little chihuahua that comes up and barks at us and shits where it wants because she never has it on leash. It makes me furious.

She saw me taking Wyvern out and asked if he was new. I said yes, he’s still getting the hang of things. She asked his breed and he’s honest to god the muttiest mutt I’ve ever seen. Big time dog people in my life are stumped when they see him because he’s honestly bizarre and doesn’t harken very strongly to any established breed.

When I said he was a mutt though she said, “Probably a pit bull, look at that face!”

And I looked at Wyverns face and was frankly shocked anyone would think he looked like a pit bull. But from her tone and body language I was wary of her spreading it around and said truthfully, “Well, the only thing all the siblings in his litter looked like was border collie, so probably the most of that.”

She wandered away unconvinced and I told my betrothed later, “Okay, I need you to practice this lie with me.”

“Okay?”

“When people ask what Wyvern is you’re gonna say he’s a border collie, akita mix, okay?”

They laughed but agreed. It’s a weird enough mix that I doubt he’ll raise eyebrows and his coloring could be Akita for all I know.

There’s way more mistrust and legislation against pitbulls that I feel is undeserved, but we’ll certainly be worse off if she starts spreading around that he’s a pibble.

holy fck it just truly sunk in how fucking STUPID jin guangshan was. how insidious the classism in mdzs was always at work.

it is INSANE to me that he refused to value meng yao more beyond recognizing him as a jin when he just won the war.

He became sworn brothers with TWO sect leaders, guaranteeing a favorable position for their sect and all but ensuring that JGS would be Chief Cultivator after the war.

he couldve (SHOULD HAVE) used JGY as a line to both NMJ and LXC's ear--pressuring him to leverage their brotherhood in the Jin's favor, and also to monitor the movements of the other sects (assessing the political landscape as it were).

and JGY was ready to do it! he wasnt particularly happy about it but that's just how badly he wanted JGS's recognition! and he would've done GREAT at it, better than he already did.

and yet none of that was able to outweigh the circumstances of his birth

Hello, again. I was confused by the word "drug" (for example in chapter 3, scene 7). It can be read as "medicine", or as "narcotic". If it's not difficult for you, please, can you see how it is marked in the original, is there any specifics? It's just that if it's still "narcotic", then one of the basic (and kind of mandatory) properties of these substances is addiction, whether physical or at least psychological, which could possibly affect, if not the miscarriage, then Eve's condition.

So I wondered if withdrawal was one of the things that broke Eve's mind.

The word the Japanese uses is "kusuri", which can be translated multiple ways (including as "medicine") but in this case is best used as "drug".

"Drug" is an umbrella term. It has a lot of different meanings depending on context, that's true, but in this particular case because Seth and Adam are specifically talking about pharmaceuticals, it can be understood to mean "man-made chemical substance that can have an effect on one's body if consumed". It's the most broad and generic application of the word.

"Drug" meaning "narcotic" is the kind of thing that only applies in very specific contexts (such as slogans aimed at children like "Don't do drugs, kids!"). Even then, it doesn't really mean "narcotic" so much as "illegal drugs" (most of which are narcotics, but not all--and in fact there are also many legal drugs that are also considered "narcotics").

Basically, "narcotic" is only one of many types of drugs, and there is no reason to think that Venom is specifically a narcotic simply because it's being referred to as a "drug".

So, again, no--the story makes no indication that the Venom had any impact on Eve's miscarriage or her mental state, and in fact states the opposite.

this is me asking about qui-gon

thank you, dear. You're a real one.

For the last several weeks, I have been running into people shitting on Qui-Gon in every tag on every platform I go on. And I am emotionally bored and intellectually fascinated with this take.

It's like there is this dichotomy in the Obi-Wan side of Star Wars fandom (we are disregarding the anti-Jedi people rn because I respect zero of them and zero of their takes).

Qui-Gon was the worst and cannot be redeemed. He is nothing but an abuser and never did he ever like, let along love, Obi-Wan.

Qui-Gon was the softest, most gentle master ever. He only ever loved Obi-Wan and tenderly taught him how to be a jedi while also being his adoring jedi-father.

Naturally, as someone who has read a few of the Jedi Apprentice stories, begrudgingly watched The Phantom Menace, and recently seen the Kenobi show, I am just baffled by both of these takes.

To start, TPM and the Kenobi show are all about Obi-Wan grieving his master, and then trying to reconnect with his master, so that is clear and obvious so we will set that to the side.

JA Obi-Wan, however, is honestly hysterical in how annoying, disobedient, and bratty he is.

And like, maybe I don't agree that Qui-Gon should have left him in a Civil War, but in these books I read Qui-Gon as an adult who has been through some serious shit (lost a child, lost a master, lost a partner) and who has been pressured into taking care of an especially energetic, overenthusiastic dependent with pre-existing self-worth issues before he himself is ready to. He is also someone who's teaching style involves allowing a child to see the consequences of their actions and stepping in only when the child is truly out of their depth, which is also a form of compassionate teaching that respects a young person's agency, believe it or not--so his methods and general being is not inherently good or inherently bad.

But forgive me, I am applying nuance to a character. I must digress.

I think what baffles and fascinates me about fandom tendencies towards Qui-Gon is

1) They are almost entirely fandom-made, and rather than do their own research and thinking, folks are by and large content to just do what everyone else is doing.

2) Even when people do go back and read the source material for Legends, they come at it with a fandom bias which they then do not recognize/point out in their analyses, which is hilarious and so faux-intellectual I want to ask them if they feel very very smart.

3) Qui-Gon exists in fandom almost entirely to further Obi-Wan whump narratives.

To be clear, I'm okay with that last point because Obi-Wan whump is like, a whole narrative in Star Wars itself (although I personally, can only endure so much Obi-whump as I prefer characters with agency in their stories), but it does make me wonder if people ever think about Qui-Gon as a character on his own.

The answer is no. Don't worry, I'm not that naive.

Anyways, I just wish there was some variety in the tags and that one could find material on Qui-Gon without having to navigate the 'Qui-Gon Jinn's A+ Parenting' 'Qui-Gon is a good jedi but not a good man' 'Qui-Gon is a good master' tags.

Like it should be ludicrous and hilarious to people that this minor character is so polarized in fandom that you have to tag things like that such that one trench of people doesn't come in and attack you in your comments section.

It's wild!!

I truly hope people can look at what they're doing and go 'oh, this is actually absurd' because just admitting that might help us in the longer term to write interesting stories.

Oh beam, all I've published on ao3 this year is sorpeli as you probably may well know but I Actually think I'm a genius for the titles for all of them if u don't mind me patting myself on the back for it. LJ and the sun is made up of

the fruit (+the seed)

the garden

the snake

Which are all in reference to the Fall of Man! Sorpeli has such mad religious vibes and so many of us made the assumption that clerics took vows of abstinence that it, of course, had to play on themes of temptation and sin. the fruit has the double meaning of being the fruit of temptation and the fruit of the womb, which didn't work out so great in that fic but I digress. You might have also noticed that everything in that fic takes place in spring or summer, aka when the trees are in bloom and the fruit is abundant (which was specifically in reference to Soren being the sun too, according to night shift me).

The seed, originally, was going to be a lot more NSFW so it would have a double meaning also but didn't feel right, so the NSFW thing that is (definitely) on its way got renamed knowledge instead, once again in reference to the fall of man.

I also wanna give a special shout out to lady justice and the sun as the series name just BC it's cool and has some really neat mythology vibes that line up with how Opeli and Soren keep wanting to have parallels with a myth that isn't real.
