“No I’m killing boys” with robin please ☺️
no i’m killing boys
ok listen, im not sure if i like this or if it’s good (it feels really rushed :/) but i wanted to try something new! if it’s shit, it’s shit. but idk. might delete. this is just me back pedaling in case it is really really awful!
feedback is greatly appreciated tho!
Hunched over her desk with tired eyes, Robin continued to review the files in front of her. The text was beginning to sway and spot on the page, and she knew she needed to call it a night sooner or later, or she’d end up sleeping at her desk again. The following day’s crick in her neck and worn wrinkled blouse always put her off her rhythm. She desperately tried to not make it a habit, but it always seemed to happen. Especially when it came to this case.
They had no leads. No suspects. No motive. Just sporadic killings and an increasing number of dead bodies piling up.
It had been close to a year of this killer’s reign of terror. Sometimes three murders would happen in the span of a week, sometimes there was no victim of months. The perp was either extremely cunning or clinically insane. The only consistencies in all the cases were that the victims were all men ranging from early twenties to late sixties, it seemed no was was kept off this perp’s list. And that they all had a small circular puncture wound on the right side of their throat. The lab had yet to figure out what made the hole, and the detectives had yet to find out the significance.
When Robin’s eyes became sandy and burned with fatigue, she finally conceded her research for the night and decided to turn in. She gathered her things sluggishly and headed for the subway station.
Her mind was still reeling as she stood on the platform, doing her best to connect the any dots in her mind. To think of who the unsub could be, what job could they have, what past were they hiding, were there any clues she missed? She’d have to go over the facts with Henderson tomorrow, he always had a knack for those seeing eye posters.
The train came barreling in and pulled Robin from her theories. She boarded the thinly occupied car and took a seat by the doors, wanting to exit as soon as possible when she arrived at her stop. She rested her head on her shoulder and hoped the rushing movement of the train would lull her to some relaxation. Right as the doors were about to close, a person skid into the car and quickly took a seat across from her, breathing heavily.
Robin, ever the detective, glanced over at the car’s new occupant as discreetly as possible to size them up for any danger. Skilled law enforcement officer or not, she was still a woman on the subway at night.
She was pleasantly surprised to find a particularly attractive woman was the addition to her ride. From the looks of it, she was likely leaving (or going to) a fancy gathering. She wore a thick trench coat over a thin, tight white dress and tights. Her (Y/H/C) locks were swept up in an elegant updo, pieces having fallen around her face from her brisk jog onto the train, and the fierce New York wind no doubt.
Robin subtly admired the woman the woman for the remainder of the ride, doing her best not to stare too long. But it was hard, she was enthralling to look at. She continued to steal glances at the woman until the train stopped and she rose from her seat. She dusted off her jacket and headed toward the exit and Robin as well.
Robin did her best to ignore the fluttering in her chest as the woman neared, and felt her breathing stop as she briefly paused before Robin.
“I think you’re cute too.” She said in a melodic voice, one that made Robin melt, and sent her a wink before exiting the train.
A fucking wink!
And then she was gone.
Robin was glad she was finally alone on the subway as she blushed something fierce and grinned like a teenager.
Robin continued to run into her subway crush.
Each time late in the evening. Each time with the woman in a new persona. One day she was dressed like an Upper East Side wife, the next a rocker chick, the day after that like a french painter, but every time wearing a lovely pair of heels that made her legs look like they went on for miles.
Each time their eyes would meet across the narrow aisle, sending flirty smiles, heated gazes and light conversation. About the weather, the subway, New York neighborhoods and the best place for a late night bite.
Robin began to eagerly look forward to night where she would meet her. Where she could feel the juvenile exuberance of harmless flirting and being in her presence. Robin no longer dreaded late nights at the precinct or taking on extra case loads, because that meant she had a better chance of running into her. Every time they met, Robin considered asking for her number, or to follow her to a pizza place by her apartment for a snack, but always chickened out.
She knew she needed to soon though, she was testing the fates everytime she didn’t. Because one day Robin knew she’d board the train home and the woman would be gone.
Late one evening, as Robin drank gritty cold coffee and poured over a new case file, her phone rang.
“Buckley,” She answered gruffly, holding the receiver between her cheek and shoulder.
“It’s Henderson. You need to get down to Chelsea, there was another murder.”
Dustin didn’t need to specify any more than that. Robin knew, this was one of theirs, another photo to add to the growing pile in a filing cabinet.
She got the address from her partner and left the station in a hurry. When she arrived, there was yellow tape sectioning of the sidewalk and officers mulling all around. Civilians were trying to peak over the barricades to get a peek at the newest victim, but were mostly thwarted. Robin pushed right by them with no sympathy and marched toward Dustin, who was talking to another detective. Two paramedics were beside them, zipping up a large black body bag. Robin felt her stomach churn as she caught a glimpse of the corpse’s mangled appearance.
“Any leads?” Robin broke up Dustin and Steve’s conversation.
“Nothing out of the ordinary for their MO so far,” Dustin said, dejectedly, “We won’t know more until the autopsy is finished.”
“But they killed out in the open this time, maybe they're getting sloppy.” Steve offered.
Robin only sighed deeply in reply and left the two men to go speak with the crime scene photographers and paramedics. They told her much of the same. No evidence so far, the murder was done in the open, but with no witnesses, the victim was a 34 year old man with a small circular puncture in his neck.
Robin felt more angry and hopeless with every person she talked to at the scene, and she could tell morale falling amongst her colleagues too. It seemed with every murder, they got father away from any resolution.
Leaving to take a minute to herself, Robin stood a few meters from the others, looking at the big picture. Hoping and praying it would help her see things in a different light. When she was a child and lost a toy on the floor, she’d stand up to get a better viewpoint, to see all the angles, nooks, crannies and obstructions. She always found the toy in the end, and she knew now that if she looked hard enough, she could do it again.
“Lotta people turned out.” Someone hummed over her shoulder, breaking her concentration.
Robin glanced to see who it was, and did a double take. Because there, standing in a large winter jacket and eclectic make up was her, the subway woman. Red and blue light illuminating her (Y/S/C) skin and graceful features.
“Wh-what?”
“Lotta people turned out to take a look at that guy.”
“Well, it was gruesome. People are fascinated by the morbid, I’ve found.” Robin spoke candidly, still in shock that she was here, and oh so close.
“What about you, detective? Are you fascinated by the morbid?” She proposed with a slight pull of her lips.
“I would say I’m fascinated with why people do morbid things.”
“I stopped wondering that a long time ago.” You sighed.
Robin was too lost in her (Y/E/C) eyes to get another word out. All she kept thinking was about how beautiful she was, how close, how good she smelled, and how this was her chance! It was fate that you’d meet her of all places!
A crime scene…
And then Robin’s analytical, paranoid brain overpowered her lovesick one.
She readjusted her look at the woman next to her, taking off her rose colored glasses and actually seeing the person who she had a knack for running into.
She was gazing toward the ambulance, a satisfied smile on her face, an ease to her expression. Her body was calm and her hands were stuffed in her jacket pockets. Robin continued her inspection down her body, her toned legs and too her feet, which were stuffed in her signature pair of expensive black heels.
Black stilettos with the unmistakable dot of coppery red.
And it clicked. This wasn’t a coincidence, this wasn’t fate. This was a clinically insane and likely cunning person who had been terrorizing New York City. The constant changing appearances, the woman’s fascination with her, the reason she was always out late (matching the timeline of when bodies would appear) her fucking being here now! All this time her partners had theorized that the hole in the men’s necks was some sort of pen or hole punch, but Robin was never convinced. And she was right, it wasn’t a pen or hole punch, it was a fucking heel.
Robin snapped her head up and felt her breathing pause when she saw the woman was already looking at her.
“Is it…?”
She just stood there, an easy smile on her lips and shrugged.
Robin cursed, and grabbed her arm tightly and dragged her toward a nearby ally. She pushed the woman roughly against the wall and all she did was giggle.
“Didn’t know you liked it rough, Detective Buckley.” She teased.
Robin’s jaw clenched. She wasn’t wearing a name tag and she knew for a fact she hadn’t told her her name.
“Start talking, now!” Robin snarled.
The woman’s eyes widened slightly, and she pressed her thighs together for a moment.
“About what exactly?” She grinned, reaching out to play with the lapels of Robin’s coat.
Robin smacked her hands away, “Oh, I don’t know, maybe the fucking people you’ve be murdering!”
“I’m not killing people, I’m killing boys.” She said very matter a fact.
“Same difference.”
“Not really. Men beat us, they use us, abuse us, take advantage of us, kill us. And that happens? Nothing. Nothing of what they deserve anyway.”
“You’re crazy.” Robin took a step back, shaking her head.
“About you, maybe.”
“Excuse me?”
“Our little rendezvous. They weren’t just for me to learn more about you and this case. I saw you in the paper after a drug bust you orcashracted, and I was instantly attracted to you. This was never a one sided thing, y’know.”
“Well it is now!” Robin said in a harsh whisper.
“It doesn’t have to be,” The woman pushed off the wall and closed the distance between them.
“I can’t be involved with a killer!” Robin’s body language disproved her words as she let the woman come closer.
“No one will know. Because you guys will never catch me. Accept that, it’s ok. I’m better at this than you could ever prove. So, why don’t we just pick up where we left off? Flirting on the G train at midnight... and maybe we could take it a bit further?”
Robin did her best to not let the woman affect her, but her smooth hands and intoxicating perfume we’re waning on her resistance.
“We will catch you, we have, I have. I’ll arrest you right now.”
“No you won’t.”
“Then I’ll tell someone.”
“Wrong again,” She moved to grip Robin’s wrists and place them on her hips, “Because you have no evidence. No one saw me talk to you, no one saw me here. I have no motive, no connection, no weapons. And no one even knows about me right? I pegged you for the secretive type.”
Robin felt her blood boil with fury and her skin heat with arousal.
“I have your shoe. We’ll run the blood on it and match it to the victim.” Robin said through labored breaths.
You hummed out a pouty moan, “You really think I don’t already have a lie ready for that? An alibi or two on top of that?”
Robin didn’t reply.
“So why make this harder for both of us? Let’s just have some fun.” Her lips brushed against Robin’s, who sincerely thought she might have a heart attack if this woman pressed another kiss to her mouth.
“What’s the crime in having some fun?”
She wanted to answer, to tell her to go to hell, to arrest her, to crash her lips to hers and take her in the dirty alley.
But before Robin could decide, someone called her name.
“Buckley? Where’d you run off too?”
She felt the woman pull away and all she wanted was to grab her again.
“Just a minute!” She shouted back to whoever needed her.
“Listen, just tell me-” But she cut her off with a mind numbing kiss.
One that you write about in books and think of at night when you can’t sleep, the kind of kiss that you compare to every other kiss you’ve ever had. Robin felt the woman’s hands ghost over her cheeks, and then her touch was gone.
“Buckley, the hell you doin’?” Harrington asked.
Robin slowly opened her eyes, only to see she had disappeared down the alleyway and out of sight and suspicion.
“Uh, I was just taking a moment.” She cleared her throat and did her best to regain her composure before she turned to face her colleague.
When she did, Steve chuckled, “A moment to put lipstick on at a crime scene? Hopin’ to pick up one of the murder groupies who hang around at the tape?”
Robin swiped a finger over her lips and there she was, leaving your calling card and her affection in bright red. Her skin erupted in goosebumps.
“At least  I can pick up women, Harrington.” Robin tried to play off the moment as casually as possible.
“Piss off.”
“You first, now go to your job.”
Steve grumbled and walked back toward the crime scene, Robin on his tail as she rubbed the transferred lipstick smudge between her fingers and shamefully wondered if she’d find her again.

The sun was blazing down onto Seoul and the new summer heat brought about various types of people who were keen to soak up the rays before returning home. Happiness was the expression covering most people’s faces as they laughed with their friends, families played cheerfully on the different rides the park provided. Some people who clearly didn’t dress appropriately for the weather made you chuckle as they wiped the sweat off their forehead, carrying around the layers they were forced to remove by the overwhelming blaze. It was an overall pleasant day and the already red faced, excited children made you content from their innocence. How you’d wish to go back to those days where the only thing that mattered was the type of flavour ice cream you would get from the corner store.
Yet here you were. 21 years old and struggling to find a job to fit around your busy university schedule to help pay the never ending list of bills. You found peace in watching strangers live their lives, it was a weird hobby that you gained over the years but you liked to imagine what everyone else’s life was like. It sometimes got you in trouble with some of the wrong people for staring for to long but you couldn’t help being intrigued in your surroundings. You just found it fascinating how everyone had their own thoughts, family and relationships and how no two people on this planet were the same as one another yet here you all were.
The once cold metallic bench you were seated on was now covered in an uncomfortable amount of sweat which signaled that it was your time to leave if you wanted to get to your daily rehearsal on time; however a tall, tattooed man came running into the already overcrowded park with whom you assumed was his sister due to his seemingly young age caught your eye. He was probably about 20 with a muscular frame covered in a short sleeved shirt and a pair of blue denim shorts, showing off his heavily tattooed, yet toned legs that go perfectly with the black and white artwork on his arms. You smiled at the sight in front of you, he was clearly struggling to put suncream onto the young girls face as she kept moving around and eventually slid through his legs and skipped off giggling to herself as she climbed onto the slide, surprising you when the words “come play daddy” left her small mouth. Never would you have thought he was her father and you somewhat felt guilty for judging them so quickly.
Seeing the two play together so happily made you weirdly jealous of the women who got to call them her family. The young father was one of the best looking men you had even seen and his daughter was beautiful with long curly hair that complimented her small frame perfectly. You started to imagine the young girls mother, shiny brown hair, tall with big hazel eyes that never lose their shine no matter the occasion. Looking around you began searching for someone matching the image in your head however no one seemed to be taking notice of the pair. In fact a lot of people were keeping away from the young father, some were other parents shielding their children’s view of the two and others were staring down the fathers overly tattoed body. The sight made you frown, who were they to criticise someone else for what they chose to do with their body? You thought his tattoos were beautiful, they were like pieces of art placed perfectly on his skin and you couldn’t see any problem with them at all. They made him unique.
A loud buzz broke you from you gaze. Shaking your head slightly you looked down to your phone and gasped “fuck!” You exclaimed and collected your things in a hurry. You were extremely late for your rehearsal and you knew if you didn’t leave now, your professor would literally kill you. Taking one last glance at the pair in front of you, you quickly jogged towards the exit of the park, hitting yourself after getting distracted.
What you didn’t see was the young dad looking over at you when he heard you curse. Finding your panicked expression and rushed exit amusing.
-
“Youngjae, sooyoung I’ve already told you, it is a duet not a solo! You need to harmonise together!” Professor Richards shouted, waving around her sheet music from her spot on the piano. The production of the play had just started yet she was already stressed with the numerous challenges the students always seemed to provide. Deeming yourself as successful that she hadn’t noticed you were late, you slipped into the chair next to your puzzled friend.
“Why are you so late? You should have been here 20 minutes ago! You’re so lucky she didn’t notice you were gone cause she literally would have literally killed you” Luna exclaimed punching you fairly hard in the arm. You smiled sheepishly “I’m sorry I was at the park and got distracted.” She looked like she was about to ask another question but a booming voice interrupted her before she could. “Miss Y/L/N can I speak to you for a minute please” You turned your head to see your professor looking straight at you with a pleading look in her electric blue eyes. You nodded slowly before looking back at Luna who smirked and winked at you as you got up, ‘fuck’ you mouthed as you walked towards Mrs Richards.
She didn’t wait for you to catch up with her, instead walking speedily into a room just outside of the theatre that was oddly quiet despite the amount of people inside the block of classrooms. Mrs Richards got a flyer out of her bulky folder and handed it to you. ‘Grease the musical! Choreographer needed!’ Was labeled on the front in big bold letters and you looked at it confusedly, thinking your friend Carter was meant to be doing the choreography. “Carter rang me this morning, he’s broken his leg and can’t do the show.” She looked at you after sighing and sitting down on the closest chair next to her. “Since you’re my female lead I would love for you to help me in the audition process for the new choreographer.”
You sighed quietly. This is just another job to pile onto your already busy enough schedule yet you knew you couldn’t say no, especially to Mrs Richards. You and her had always been quite close due to the fact she knew you were insanely talented and she loved working with you and helping you improve. “Yeah okay, it’s not gonna take long though is it? Im really busy at the minute” you say biting your lip, scanning through the information on the sheet again. She shook her head, “No It’ll take about 3 hours, 4 at most but I really need you there Y/N.” You just smiled and thanked her, telling her you’ll see her there before bowing your head slightly in goodbye and walked out of the room to join the rest your class.
-
The deafening sound of music filled the dance studio as Jungkook tirelessly worked on his new routine. The strong stench of mixed Red Bull and sweat overpowered the room and if anyone were to enter then he was sure that they’d be paralysed by the smell. He’d been practicing since 6:30am, almost 7 hours now and Jungkook was unsure if the normally baggy material of his grey Nike shorts could stick to his skin even more then they already are. Frustrated, he turned the music off and ungraciously fell to the floor. He needed this extra credit and was willing to work long hours for it, even if it meant missing out slightly on having a social life.
His loud breathing symbolised that it was time to leave and Jungkook was beyond happy to be going home after his tense day a practice. He slowly got up and packed his things away before gulping down the last quarter of his energy drink, that he hated himself for having as they did nothing but make his teeth ache from the bucket full of sugar, and made his way back to the apartment. It was far to hot in Seoul for Jungkooks taste and he made a mental note of buying suncream for Eunha on his way to the nursery. He walked his usual root home that led him through the park where a few people were sunbathing and he smiled at the thought of picking Eunha up early and treating her to an ice cream and a play on the games at the playground.
He arrived back at home 10 minutes later, shouting a quick ‘hello’ to Hoseok who was sitting in the living room, in front of a fan, shirtless and groaning about the heat before running up the stairs and jumping in the shower. The cool water made him instantly relax his tense body and he really didn’t want to leave but he needed to be quick if he wanted to pick Eunha up and go to the park before the rush of the mass of families who had the same idea that he did, beat him in getting there first and taking all the best rides.
Slipping on a simple white t-shirt, a pair of three quarter, blue denim shorts and black & white vans, he sat down next to Hoseok and sighed as he leant back into the comfy, cotton sofa. “Fuck I literally want to stay here for the rest of my life” he said moaning quietly. Hoseok chuckled and shook his head “no way, I’d get butt cramp.” The two laughed. “What are you gonna do today?” The older male questioned as he joined Jungkook in leaning back on the sofa. “I’m about to pick up Eunha and I’m taking her to that huge park down the street.” Hoseok nodded and reached into his pocket to pull out a few dollar bills and placed them in Jungkooks hand.
“Here, treat Eun to an ice cream or something.” The younger frowned as he glanced down at the money. “Hoseok you don’t have to I’m doing alright with money at the minute” he tried to hand the money back but he refused. “I know you are but that doesn’t mean I can’t help out a bit and treat my favorite niece to some ice cream every once in a while.” Jungkook smiled. “She’s your only niece, but thank you I really appreciate it.” He waved his hand to dismiss the comment and Jungkook patted his back, saying bye before grabbing his keys & cigarettes making his way out of the door.
The young dad has always hated taking money from the people around him. He thought if he took it, it would make him look weak and make people question if he could really raise a child as he wasn’t financially stable. The whole thing use to make him panic, so much that he himself started to question if he was really capable of raising a child. Looking back at himself a few years ago and comparing him then to where he is now, he can confidently say that he no longer has those thoughts. He had done a great job of raising his little girl for the past four years and he was awfully proud of her, saying that she’s the kindest, most beautiful girl in the world.
After walking another 10 minutes Jungkook made it to he nursery, he walked up the steps to the front entrance and pushed the buzzer on the side of the door and patiently waited for the receptionist to let him inside. The receptionist smiled once she saw who it was and flicked her straight blonde hair over her shoulder; she had always had a thing for the young dad and Jungkook was flattered, but wasn’t interested.
“Mr Jeon it’s nice to see you again! How are you?” She asked leaning forward slightly so her cleavage was on show, the gesture made Jungkook raise his eyebrow at her openness but he continued to answer her question.
“I’m great thanks Michelle, just here to pick up Eunha.” He smiled and closed one eye into a wink in a way to almost tease the blonde. Michelle blushed and looked away from the eye contact and pressed the button which allowed the doors to the school be opened. “Do you need me to show you to her classroom?” Her voice hopeful as she began to rise from her chair. The father shook his hand is dismiss “No I’m okay thanks, I’ll see you soon.” He said as he paced his way into the main school area, waving goodbye yet not waiting for her to respond.
Jungkook took his time as he walked through the bright hallways, stopping every so often to look at the children’s artwork draped along the corridors; his heart clenched with pride as he saw a piece of work with the name ‘Eunha Jeon’ written on the bottom of a drawing of a herself and Jungkook. She had made sure to draw a few of her fathers tattoos on his arms and even wrote next to the side of him “My awesome daddy!” Which continued to make Jungkook smile. He pulled out his phone and quickly checked to see if anyone was around before he snapped a shot of the family portrait and saving it as his home screen. The student carried on down the corridor and soon arrived at Eunhas class. The door was open due to the hot weather and the children were busy playing with their toys. His daughter was playing by herself in the corner of the room with a box of barbie dolls, she had recently taken an interest in playing with them after Jin had brought her one for last years Christmas and Jungkook would be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy it when she had forced him to play with her.
The student knocked on the door to gain the teachers attention before he walked in, she was sat at her desk looking through the plans for her lessons when Jungkook made his way over to her. “Miss Matthews? Hi” He smiled.
“Oh Mr Jeon, you here to pick Eunha up already?” She took of her glasses, stood from her seat and walked towards the father. Before he could respond a loud bang followed by a small cry gained his attention. His daughter was on the floor after obviously being pushed over and Jungkooks heart dropped. A young boy was standing above her with a smirk wedged on his face after he realised she was crying. “Eunha!” The panicked father shouted as he raced towards his little girl, not caring about the teacher calling after his name.
Jungkook immediately scooped her up into his arms and she buried her small face into the crook of his neck, tears still streaming down her face. He turned to the young boy who looked rather frightened now that Jungkook was sitting in front of him. “What on earth do you think you’re doing to my daughter?” He said trying to contain his anger as afterall, he was speaking to a child and as much as he’d like to shout and scream at him, he knew that would be an asshole move.
“I- I’m sorry sir, I didn’t mean to hurt her!” The boy spoke, looking up at his teacher for help. She shook her head and kneeled down to his height. “We saw what you did Jacob, and it wasn’t very nice! You could’ve seriously hurt Eunha.” The boy frowned at her words and gazed his eyes back to his classmate who had stopped crying now but was still sniffing into her fathers neck. “I’m sorry Eunha it won’t happen again.” Jungkook rolled his eyes at the boys statement, his apology was clearly forced and he couldn’t wait to talk to the boys parents about the situation.
“You okay Eun?” Jungkook asked as she pulled her face from his neck. Her eyes were red and puffy from the crying and his heart felt like it was being smashed to pieces. She didn’t deserve this. The young girl nodded and sniffed again. This wasn’t the afternoon Jungkook had planned. “I’m sorry about what happened Eunha, I’ll see you tomorrow okay sweetie” Miss Matthews smiled and stroked the hair out of Eunhas eyes. The dad got up from his kneeling position and began to walk out of the room, calling out a bye and a small ‘thank you’ to the teacher.
He pulled Eunha closer to his chest and kissed her forehead, “Well baby, my plan was to go to the park so we can have some fun but we don’t have to go if you’re not feeling up to it.” Jungkook suggested whilst they were walking through the school halls and her head perked up at the plan of the park. “I’m okay daddy let’s go to the park!” She wriggled happily in his arms and Jungkook laughed at her enthusiasm. He muttered a quiet ‘of course baby’ in her ear and she giggled at the warm breath on her skin and Jungkook felt all the stress leave his body when he heard the cute sounds fall out of her mouth. She was the best thing to ever happen to him and he was 100% sure of that.

Peru has handed me one behemoth sized problem and it has three letters. Pie. I have seen them around walking around the stores, peering into their translucent showcases of glaze and marangue. I tried, I really did try to fight the urge but I love pie. What started out last week obeying my insatiable hunger, reluctantly trying a piece of chocolate cake in Contumaza expecting a hard cardboard like mouthful, turned my relief into bliss. This morning I had a wonderful meal of a fried egg and chicken sandwich with a coffee. I was satisfied walking back to my hotel to pack up my things and get ready to head out on another day on the road then I pass a cafe with the largest lemon marangue pie I have ever seen. The pie itself was normal but the marangue was half a ruler size in height. A true spectacle to behold. I asked the lady how much from outside 8 soles. I didnt care I was already sold, then I walked in and saw a cappuccino machine. Now we had a problem. This is the longest I have gone without wifi. Ironically on the same week I challenged myself to no youtube videos, no social media, no phone use except for writing here on Tumblr, email, and of course my GPS maps. It has helped me succeed my goal now only one day away but it has also not allowed me to write anything on here since Tuesday. I checked into my hotel room in Trujillo Tuesday afternoon, room was great and I was right overhead of a wifi router eveything was going great until the next day when the wifi inexplicably shut down with no explanation from the hotel manager except that it had no solution. Here I am on Saturday still nothing except now im out of the city Trujillo in a small mountain village of Santiago de Chuco where here I fully expected finding nothing close resembling a wifi signal. I have had no problem with this except I dont like going long periods without further documenting this journey. Throughout this week I have read much more than usual nearly finishing my novel on the Peruvian conquest of Francisco Pizarro and his band of a few hundred Spaniards. I would have liked to save a bit of the book for when im in Cusco where it predominantly takes place but its one hell of a page turner. It angers more than it should how insanely lucky the Spaniards were not only in Mexico but maybe more so in Peru. When Pizarro and sixteen of his men first landed in Peru for merely a few days for inspection they had no idea that they unleashed a demon onto Peru in the form of small pox and then returning months later Peru was desamated by a civil war after smallpox took its Sapa Inka (Only King) and his two sons one in Cusco the other in Quito, Ecuador fought a bloody battle for its empty crown. Now enter Spaniards who slipped in , took advantage of this situation, looted Peru of all its gold and silver.. which was a hell of a lot. Raped, enslaved, and killed the Peruvians, and converted them all to Catholicism. Now here we are today. I didnt do much in Trujillo for the first two days. After that adventure the days prior I was needing a rest especially from the bike. First day I just walked through the city which on the outskirts atleast looks like the desert is winning the battle taking back its land. Trujillo ia honestly a dump when you escape its old colonial downtown square. But I enjoyed my quirky room with its green and orange walls with or without wifi. Second day I ate lots and spent even more on it. Third I actually did something. I woke up early and visited the Archeological site of Huaca's del Luna Y Sol or Temples of the Moon and Sun. Two opposing temples facing eachother about a few hundred meters across. Built continuously from 200 A.D to 600 A.D. (I think, i have no wifi for confirmation) These temples were used by the Moche civilization a thousand years before the Inca. A cool side note about travelling North to South in Peru is I get to see all the civilizations that occupied the area pre Inca and than finally witness their splendor as the final conclusion to Peru, whereas most people start in Lima and go straight to Cusco and work backwords. I was the first person in the Museum. Always check out the museum first and then go to the actual sites. Thats a rule of mine. The Moche civilization is fascinating. All over their temples, pottery , and alike adorn the painted head of their god with its feline head and octopus body. This God craved the blood of its people to be satisfied so every year or so warriors of high status would fight one on one with clubs. When one warrior downed his opponent, dropping his head-dress and grasping the long braided hair of his foe he would be declared the victor. With this the loser would be stripped naked and held prisoner for days awaiting his eventual sacrifice to the god. I was confused by this when I asked my guide if this was an honour to be sacrificed because it obviously didnt seem like he was treated like the high class the warrior was. Yet the guide said with a certain tone of obviousness that yes this was a huge honour. So I said ok and went along with it. The sacrifices throat would be cut at the tallest platform of the temple for all the common people to witness, blood pouring into a goblet and then drunk by the High Priest, thus pleasing his God. Gnarly stuff. Every hundred years the Moche would add a new layer to its Moon temple, making seven layers in all for seven hundred years. It was eventually abandoned when El Nino and other natural disasters ravaged the area making the Moche people doubt its God and the high priests. Thats another thing there was no kings only High Priests. Over time sand completely covered both temples making them look like normal hills. It wasnt until 1990 when archeologists discovered what they really were. With the sand protecting and maintaining its walls you can still see the black, red, and yellow paint. This was no doubt the coolest historical site I have ever been to in terms of its age, how well maintained it was, and the impossible location in the desert. Obviously Angkor Wat in Cambodia is impressive but Huacas Luna Y Sol is a thousand years older than that and it was only discovered not even thirty years ago. We had a full tour of the Moon temple but couldnt even enter the Sun temple as archeologists still have a ton of work to do on it. Unfortunately and unbelievably there are no funds to enact further work and research so its just left there. Next I travelled four hundred years ahead to the Chimo civilization while only really travelling thirty kilometers. This site wasnt all that impressive yet I did pay for a guide which was a bit steep in price but the man was able to fill holes in my understanding not only on this palace of the Chimo people but on Peru history in general. Chan Chan was the name of this palace made of mud brick and rock again in the middle of the desert. It was quite bare so it was very tough on the imagination. It was strange to see this palace made four hundred years earlier not be as magestic as the first. The theme of what my guide was telling me was how much the Chimo people valued animals and water especially as engravings of fish, pelicans, and waves adorned the walls as well as diamond holes which represented fish nets. My guide and I discussed the Spaniards as he told me they destroyed much of Chan Chan aswell as Huacas Luna Y Sol looking for gold and silver. "Those Spaniards sure loved Gold" I said "Why didnt the Peruvians value it as much?" He said food and services were their main currency. Gold and Silver was in such abundance that it was worth nothing, except when worked by metal workers. I replied "The Peruvian way of exchanging goods and services actually makes much more sense then this exchange of metals that the Spaniards and our methods use today" My guide laughed in agreement. Today I hit the road again on yet another adventure. Each new day here is its own journey I thought this morning pushing my bike outside from the hotel. The previous day I was looking at my map planning my route. Two options. One was to go straight down the coast where ill have to make a slight hook right back to the interior to reach Huacas, my next destination. Option two was split from the coast immediately for the interior most likely back into the mountains and whatever else the unknown awaited me. Without saying a word all my being wanted to take that coastal road where the roads would be flat, the weather hot, riding in a tshirt, right next to the sea. Sounds great doesnt it? especially after the fiasco in the mountains previously. It was a tough choice. I asked what is the easiest choice? The coast I thought obviously. Then were taking option 2 into the mountains. And thats what I did. The morning begun with a bright sunny sky as usual on the desert coast but that didnt last long. Immediatley I was heading right back to the interior, right back where I came from the mountains. I hit three road blocks along the way waiting for construction to do whatever which altogether took well over an hour and the chain on my bike dropped from the gear twice. Which was funny I thought because thats the first thing I noticed in the morning how droopy my chain was. An annoyance but possibly the best annoyance one can have on a motorcycle. I just had to take it easy until finding a mechanic further down the road. Which what was done. Then I was back ascending the cold mountain tops high in the sky. I was freezing. Starting the day in the desert has a way of making one make bad clothing choices. I also have a fairly big rip in my backpack rain protector. I didnt feel prepared and it was a long way to the next town so at around 3pm I settled with spending the night here in Santiago de Chuco, not even close to where I wanted to be tonight. Tomorrow's going to be a lot of riding.
