thoughts on the new TADC (the amazing digital circus) episode?

SPOILERS UNDER CUT

Honestly? I thought it was great. The animation never fails to amaze me, love the colors, and the plot-HOLY SHIT MAN

Jax's character was shown so well. He's going through a lot, he's distraught about Kaufmo abstracting, and he's trying to distract himself instead of fixing the problem, which is probably going to be a recurring theme. His lines were hilarious as usual, though. When Pomni had the dream about falling (the 2nd time) Jax was the ONLY ONE who didn't try to help her.

Ragatha-she's still a great character, but she's really passive aggressive, it seems. A bit of a manipulator.

Gangle is still my baby. Love them so much. Nothing to point out, but there may be some lore attached to the comedy mask always breaking.

Caine and Bubble are the best duo, obviously, especially with the bubble pipe joke.

I LOVE GUMMIGOO SM OMG I NEED THE PLUSH. But the existential crisis was very interesting soley bc it shows that the NPCs are NOT REAL. They have 'emotions', sure, but those aren't real crisises, it could all be by Caine's doing to make Pomni think things are real (just a theory)

Not much else, honestly. I'll be posting about this more, though. Great episode, can't wait for more!

star beast thoughts

Deeply enjoyed it. I've been worried that I only liked original RTD because it was my first Doctor Who, and now that I'm an adult with critical thinking skills, I won't enjoy his stuff half as much. It might just be the return of Ten and Donna, but everything came rushing back.

lots of very funny moments that made me laugh out loud

Not sure how I feel about the opening credits, but I love the theme music

love shirley, p sure she's a recurring character now, very happy for that. Her dynamic with the Doctor was immediately Great.

i like the quiet acknowledgement that sylvia and wilf are fucking Traumatised and have been terrified every time aliens happen for 15 years

Shaun seems very nice! Love the reference to Nerys too, Nerys was great, I love her frenemies thing with Donna.

I gotta apologise for misgendering the Meep for years. Beep the Meep's pronouns are the/Meep, thank u rose.

the scene abt wilf landed Oddly though considering bernard cribbins Is dead now. idk reshooting it might have been difficult but it left a bad taste when they're going "lol he's not dead why would you think that dumbass"

Love Donna's family. Love the scene of Sylvia trying to be Supportive of her trans granddaughter while Struggling bc yeah she's trying but she's not perfect. Love that Sylvia in general is still abrasive but no longer straight up emotionally abusive (which I think was true of The End of Time too, but she's in this one a lot more)

Not sure why they bothered to include Fudge since he didn't do anything?? it felt like fanservice but like…. they aged him down and took out his mum, who was one of the funniest characters in the comic, so what's the point of keeping him?? Would have liked to see him interact with Rose more.

I did like that they went to an effort to make the wrarth warriors actually sympathetic in this one though, pointing out they use painless stun guns, rather than "oh well they're policemen so they're automatically Good" and also not having them plant a bomb in the doctor's stomach. That was fucked up.

The stuff leading up to Donna fully remembering was Very Good. Her mentioning giving away the money feels like something He would do and everyone just being silent because they Can't Bring It Up etc. I liked that a lot.

I liked Rose being explicitly transfemme but I feel they should have actually set up her being non binary earlier???? as it is it feels kind of like it's saying trans automatically equals non binary??? I do love that she saved the world by being trans though.

The metacrisis going into Rose worked really well too, good resolution to All That. I am less sure about "well we can just Let The Power Go, obviously you never thought of that because you're a man"

New TARDIS console is Perfect i love her sm

Also love Donna lampshading "going inside Just To Look means an adventure will accidentally happen"

Love the coffee thing also. Oh No an adventure is accidentally going to happen

How exactly did you come to love TLOU? I have my own special interests that just happened upon me, so I want to know about how it was for others. also, any other games that you like?

you've asked the golden question so strap in because this is gonna be LONG:

i first got into tlou through part 2! admittedly i didn't play the og first. i did own it at the time because it seemed like one of those games you just gotta play (and i was right) and yknow ellie's gay and i dug that, but at that point i hadn't played it but knew the plot through a cinematic compilation video.

i was intrigued by part 2, specifically because of the teaser at e3 where ellie and dina dance and kiss. though i didn't have a BURNING desire to have the game, me being down for anything gay pretty much what sealed my fate. so i bought the game and played it on my older brother's ps4.

and MAN, was i obsessed pretty much immediately. looking back, it was a fever dream, just me playing the game from the moment i woke up to the moment i went to bed, nonstop...until i reached the point where ellie leaves and i stopped playing, completely distraught, and ended up watching the ending on youtube.

i was pissed, conflicted, legit fell into a deep depression after knowing how the game ends. after that point, because as we all know the shitstorm over the game was not pretty, i lingered on both sides of the fanbase for a while. because as someone who went in for the gay and had to witness the gay be destroyed, i was hurt -- but i realized after seeing anti-tlou2 people talk about their (weird and irrational) reasons for hating the game that i didn't hate the game, i was just that. hurt.

but the game is meant to hurt. there's a reason for the hurt.

and once i looked past the hurt that i felt, i analyzed hardcore, discussed with people (this is the nicest environment to do so), ate up every single detail discovered, replayed, and then i was making art, obsessively so, writing fanfiction, and now it's been 3 years and those fictional fuckers still live in my brain to this day.

and of course, i dove into the og! i remember playing the game while my online lectures (because covid lol) played in the background.

tlou is fully my biggest hyperfixation/special interest to date. i went into how but here's more of the reasons behind it:

i've talked about this a ton before but i love that though tlou has a reputation of being a dark game and people tend to read it as being about "the darkness of humanity", it's really not about that, but love and what people will do for it, as well as seeking and obtaining a purpose, even in the world's darkest conditions.

i love that it's about found family, that joel can't help but love ellie, because at the end of the day, he's not really supposed to be the heartless person he wants to pretend he is, but he's supposed to be a DAD. i love that ellie, despite never knowing the feeling of a parent, loves joel right back. i love that despite disliking him at first, she warms to him so quickly and she wears him down with her stupid jokes and her endearing weirdness.

i love that the themes of love persist through the second game even as it drags the franchise to darker places. that these are the lengths that ellie will go to not to get abby, but for joel. i love that part 2 says, "hey these bitches unhealthy" and that despite love being their motivation (abby for her dad, ellie & tommy for joel, dina for ellie, lev for his mother), it shouldn't be driving them to those ends!!!!

.....anyway for your second question, i'm picky about games but some recurring favs are apex legends, minecraft, breath of the wild, stardew valley, life is strange (watched the playthru only but loved the story sm), tell me why, and i just started horizon zero dawn! the way things are going, i think i'll like it a lot :)

Hi I agree with the mako discussion I have always been neutral to her and this whole discussion articulated why. I feel like there's a big disconnect between the story concepts for p5 and the writers. I.e Ann's themes Vs her treatment in writing

Also I'm a local oc X canon shipper who likes to rewrite stories to insert my oc & Ur fic & blog is giving me inspiration for what I can do because I only recently started p5r after watching rtgame play it so I haven't digested & criticised details in full yet so hearing Ur thoughts really helps articulate vague impressions I've had!!!

That being said, I'm interested what u think of Sumi Because. I low-key don't like her (I DONT HATE HER but I don't love her beyond "she's cute")

oh boy...... sumi. where do i begin.

i'll be clear from the start: i love fanon sumi. i think shes adorable, i love seeing her in fics, fanart, etc etc. and for the longest time i couldn't figure out why i loved her sm in fandom and hated her in canon? and then i realized:

sumi's character... has no clear purpose.

(sojiro voice) let me explain

each of the phantom thieves have a recurring theme of finding or rediscovering identity.

ryuji with track + his old teammates

ann with her stance on modeling

yusuke with his purpose for creating art (oh boy i also have a lot to say about Him)

makoto with her burnt out but not quite burnt out gifted kid syndrome

futaba with her purpose for living at all (ouch)

and haru with how she wants to define herself without her father's influence.

the only (ONLY) exceptions to this is akechi and the protagonist. akiren is the catalyst to aiding the others discover identity, and akechi already has his purpose in life so ingrained he doesn't need to (or doesn't bother) trying to grow as a person.

now... sumi.

she's first introduced as the brilliant gymnast honor student. over time, it's clear that she struggles with meeting others' (and even her own) expectations for herself.

if we follow the same formula for the other thieves, this would be when she'd start questioning why she does gymnastics at all, or who she does gymnastics for. instead, she double downs on her supposed love for the sport, and only spirals deeper and deeper when simple "hard work" doesn't pay off.

obviously we know why. she thinks she's her dead sister. but thematically, it just clashes with all the rest of the characters already presented, because the player now has no idea where her character's going with this. she suffers from the same thing makoto's character does: tons of payoff, no clear resolution.

by the end of the faith confidant she declares that she'll now be doing gymnastics as sumire, and not kasumi. that doesn't change the expectations stacked upon her to succeed. sumi never says, "it's okay if i don't succeed, because i'm doing my best." she says, "i'm going to succeed as sumire yoshizawa and not kasumi yoshizawa, and everyone will see me shine in my own way."

and don't get me wrong. it's a lovely conclusion on its own and i'm proud of her for it, but narratively it came so out of left field. there was no set up for that specific drive to succeed As Herself, because the entire set up thus far was that she just couldn't succeed at all. this is why the entire confidant felt so stilted to me.

and the reason for such a strange ending note is because of the twist itself. no one expected her to actually be her dead older sister. suddenly, sumi is a completely different person, and you're just supposed to roll with it through her confidant. there's just no time within the confidant itself for the player to digest it.

moving on from that though i just fucking hate how she's marketed. her entire palette is a copy and cut paste from joker's. her outfit is somehow worse than ann's--i get it, leotard for her gymnastic skills, but look up gymnastic leotards when you get the chance. there's no plunging necklines like her costume shows. her coat (again, carbon copy from joker's) is cut in the back in a way that no matter What You Do or How You Look at her, all you see is a flash of ass and thigh. the first thing you see of her the MOMENT YOU OPEN THE GAME is a slow pan up starting from her exposed crotch, for fuck's sake. fuck you atlus, she's fifteen.

also????? she's supposedly a gymnast, but she?? uses a ribbon??????? in her all out attack and in her final performance at the end of her confidant rank? is this just a localization issue? ribbon dancing and gymnastics are two very different sports???? someone explain??

she also pops up in thr story at the most random times, because the writing team over our beloved atlus couldn't figure out how to shoehorn her in to make her relevant to the main plot. why does she get the app in the first place, having nothing to do with the thieves as a whole? why does she awaken to a persona at all in maruki's palace, when all she does is vehemently deny who she really is?

dont argue with me on this, but the reason why she awakens to her persona SPECIFICALLY AT THAT POINT IN THE STORY at all... is so atlus could shove her into the opening cutscene where she "saves" joker. so the players could get hyped seeing her supple fifteen year old Pan Up From Crotch in the first five minutes of the game. joker didn't need saving. fuck off

and if you're gonna follow the rules already set in the p5 universe: how come she can use her persona so effectively in the first place? haru couldn't, even though she awakened. sumi definitely shouldn't be able to, given the whole... denying who she really is situation.

and lastly there's just some aspects of how she's depicted that rly irk me, but those are absolutely just my personal feelings. nothing inherently wrong with them, just annoying to me specifically:

- her over the top polite nature that only hinders her, but she doesn't abandon it to set straight boundaries with those being rude to her because she can't meet their expectation. even makoto told the principal to leave her alone that one time.

- the way she's so clearly shoved towards joker as the Canon Choice like makoto was in vanilla. p4 does this with rise, too, but it's far more bearable because of just how over the top she is with it, at least for me. i had a problem with yukari in p3 for much of the same reason as sumi.

- the fact that her outfit doesn't change after she accepts herself as sumire. i understand that it'd be a lot of work, but narratively, wouldn't it make more sense for it to change? akechi got two outfits (both ugly but i digress) for the two facets in his true self. if her thief outfit is a manifestation of her doubling down on her identity as kasumi, why doesn't it change? why is her hair, a clear indication of who she is as a person, still in a ponytail despite everything??? is she taking on kasumi's confidence in the metaverse?? it just isn't clear.

- her fucking magical girl transformation in her original awakening. sorry. it just wasn't necessary. again this is totally just a me thing but WOW it pissed me off so much first time i watched it, because what purpose was there to include that other than to make the player go "oooooooo shiny girl pretty girl near costume ooooooooo".

i think thats most of it. as a personality i adore sumi. it's why i love seeing her in art and fics. but as a Character made to drive a story's plot, there's so many holes i'm surprised the ship is still chugging along.

Hello!♥️ I've been having lots of dreams about my soulmate I suspect and there's been really strong messages through songs as well as angel numbers. Water is also a big recurring theme in my dreams with them. I was wondering if you had any insight on your part or messages from my soulmate that might bring me more clarity.

Hmm well there’s a few things that could be going on… you could be drawing on their energy because you need a boost or may be having a hard time so they are there to comfort you; they could be searching for your energy to comfort them; and it could be that they are indicating something about your life path, or some lesson. I sometimes think that we get those signs as indicators that all is well, trust the timing. Like hey we’re still on track, it’s find.

“Sit through the loneliness” just came on my co-Star notification, maybe that is also a message for you.

Water can mean many things in dreams depending on what it is. Usually water symbolizes cleansing, or clarity. But I’m gonna see if spirit has anything to contribute.

Spirit, what clarity do you have about this situation between anon and a sm?

You’re meant to learn acceptance. Accept that you aren’t in control and aren’t meant to be. Trying to know things you aren’t already aware of is part of control seeking. Do you not trust that you will know when you know? Do you not trust your own inner guidance telling you what you think? We don’t mean to shame you it’s more like we want you to realize how powerful you are and how out of your power you become when you try to control instead of surrender. Your power comes from the peace of knowing you are fine no matter what. Maybe you need to boost your confidence and make yourself feel that you will be fine no matter what. Your soulmate wants you to embody all that you are. When you get reminders of them, examine where you are not that day, or even in that moment, holding yourself in your own power. Are you not showing up as your true self so someone may like you, are there fears you need to work through?

3.) any recurring images/elements?

Since I just answered a looong drabble abt the anthea converse I’ll answer this one for the polaris one lol

The obvious one is a lot of space and star themes, even the characters designs generally have some sort of little cosmic accessories. Different characters will have their own little sub-motifs, not just in the way they dress but just things that will come up in their story a lot. Like, Polaris herself is a navigator so really anything related to directions (In a more abstract way too, like, she’s lost in life and such), for Saiph, his whole thing can veer on being pretty upsetting but you can always look out for this one Spesific Fucking Knife that’s going to pop up constantly, for Al it’s anything related to halves and opposites, I mean, just look at his hair. For Bella it’s partly her sweet tooth, though it’s also not really about that at all. And for Mira you can aaaalways look out for birds and wings and really anything that flies, oh I hope that doesn’t have any possible negative side effects!!

Anyway I could go on with all the characters (Felis and “lives,” Juno and cracks/breaking, Ain and, well, eyes, etc.) but I think I’ll leave it at these for rn!

Overall though… A huge huge huge huge huge overarching theme, and I think really the entire point of the story I want to tell with them is… Connection! We’re made of stardust, we’re all connected, people need people to survive. People need connection, no man is an island (Polaris), needing help isn’t a weakness (Saiph), it’s okay to be a burden (Al), vulnerability is a necessity for connection (Bella), people continue to live because of the kindness of others (Mira)

There’s totally a flipside of this too! And other character’s different struggles with it! But again I’d be here all day just listing them all (Not that I’d mind. This is fully for your sake LOL). There are a bunch of smaller themes I’d love to get into, like a lot of the characters arcs are sort of about different types of ego death, sometimes taken in strangely literal ways. And of course the theme of “flaws” being power is important here because of the way that all the characters interconnect into something stronger. And the idea that it’s not somekind of moral failing to be imperfect. But it’s also possible to grow, especially with the help of others.

AND LOVE! The idea that all love that has ever been and ever will be has always been there. Because, again, we are made of stardust, we are part of the universe. Every moment that you have spent loving something, you have been the universe giving love back to itself. So don’t deny yourself that.

16.) imagine the entire story takes place but in the meantime the characters all also have tumblr. what kind of (terrible) tumblr posts would happen?

OK silly time. I actually think this concept is so funny so I wanna save it for in case I ever wanna ACTUALLY make fake tumblr posts for them...

So in the meantime here's just what I think their tumblrs would look like

Polaris has not changed her blog theme, icon, or even blog title at all. And she only browses and doesn’t post. She doesn’t understand why she keeps getting blocked.

Saiph comments on EVERY SINGLE FUCKING POST that he reblogs. All of them. No matter what. He needs everyone to know his thoughts.

Al doesn’t use Tumblr and if you saw him reblog old emo music at 3am no you didn’t that was someone else. That was a different Al. Stop asking questions.

Bella has the most decked out “pastel goth” Tumblr theme ever. She’s so meticulous about it as if it matters. She reblogs edgy moodboards and Kuromi edits. Her Caard is a maze filled with so many blinkies you’ll go blind. She also posts cake.

Mira runs a bird themed gimmick blog. She, like, roleplays as a bird who’s a menace to society. She rbs Bella’s cakes with stuff like “Oh fuck yes. A little cake for me. *pecks at it*” She’s having fun.

Felis has one of those catgirlbodypart urls. Love her for it of course.

it's time for a headcanon ask that i ask everyone eventually... what do lady tremaine's nightmares tend to look like? what common motifs and themes recur in her dreams or nightmares?

margarethe's nightmares are centrally around being trapped or drowning.

i think trapped is an obvious one. she's terrified of being powerless and craves control over her surroundings, because the worst circumstances of her life have occurred when she lacks power (her childhood, the end of her first marriage with francis' death, her lack of legal right and control over their finances/stability resulting in her second marriage and another dead husband).

so trapped could mean, she's in a room or house that she can't escape, whether that's because of locked doors, a labyrinthine interior, the layout of the house changing around her, etc. sometimes there will be the extra spice of a loved one being the one who either locks her in, or who seems to be there to help/advise but is actually sabotaging her or there to hurt her.

drowning is kind of a variant on the idea of being trapped, i guess. but in general margarethe does not like swimming (she was OK with it as a kid, but became uncomfortable with it as an adult) and has some fear of open water. not incapacitating in her day-to-day life or even if she were to take a sea voyage, but enough that when she's asleep, it bubbles up. it's another take on her fear of powerlessness.

recurring motifs in her dreams tend to be:

needles (sewing needles, medical needles)

paintings, especially portraits

trying to find a commonplace object in its usual spot, but it's not there

her hair and/or teeth falling out

one daughter being gone, as if she had never been

pregnancy, her own or one of her daughter's

books, esp with missing pages, confusing covers, or that are just blank

i was just thinking about some recurring themes in the songs hayley wrote about taylor, which say a lot about his personality; for example adjectives like "kind", "gentle" (all over the place in ffv + the "gentle giant" in sudden desire), "warm", "soft" ("the softest skin there ever was" in htsyhb and a "softened stone" in sudden desire); then there's a big theme which is just "homes" (why we ever + different songs on ffv), which makes sense 'cause taylor is a home buddy

she really went all out when she wrote about taylor. i knew from the moment they got together, any future songs were gonna cut deep just because we’ve heard HTSYHB and the words she’s said about t over the years. she loves him sm 🥺

🖇 Have you ever written a collaborative work?

I have! I did a series of collaborative short stories with some friends from summer camp, I've done a collaborative work with my mom, and a collaborative work with a former friend! It can be fun if you're all on the same page about what you want from the project, but it's also something that can get tricky fast if any one person isn't good at compromise or wants to spearhead the entire thing themselves.

🖇 What themes recur in your work?

Hope being something you have a violent relationship crops up a lot in my works 😭 hope for a better future, a better relationship, a better life, and you're always beating it to a bloody pulp to make it yours. I also see a lot of emphasis on compassion in my works, and certain locations repeat themselves too like deep forests and mountain valleys SJGHSDG. Honestly there's a lot of borderline horror as well, I really like darker fantasy (not GRRM grimdark, but just generally a little creepy). And of course there's a ton of history in my worlds KSDGSD and it usually plays heavily into the current plot.

📋 Do you consider yourself organized?

I would say I am! I tend to do a lot of worldbuilding and a lot of general plot outlining before I ever sit down and start writing the thing properly, so I know more or less exactly when and where things have to happen in order to make sense. I definitely struggle with writing non-chronologically which has gotten me stuck more than once, though 😔

the whole song is about the death of a relationship i know evret and levana barely even qualifies as a relationship as its so one sided but u get me

ok so pretend this whole thing is from evrets pov

'and if im on fire youll be made of ashes, too' ok first thing i noticed here is the reference to fire bc thats a recurring theme in tlc and more specifically in fairest, and that lyric is about how the people on both sides of the relationship are hurting eachother - levana hurting evret by manipulating him, forcing him to marry her, stealing evrets dead wife's face, etc etc,, and on evrets side, he hurts levana by not loving her back (what a king i love him sm)

'even on my worst day, did i deserve, babe, all the hell you gave me? cause i loved you, i swear i loved you, 'til my dying day' a huge huge part of evrets character is that he has a big sense of duty and devotion. so when levana forced him to marry her, regardless of his lack of love for her, he did everything he could to make her happy, because thats what he felt his duty as a husband was to do, and throughout fairest, they keep mentioning the vows 'i vow to love and cherish you for all our days' 3 times i think (?) so relating back to the song, its like hes saying, i loved you and cherished you as promised (or did everything an actual loving husband will do) and yet she gave him hell (the reasons stated in the paragraph above ^^^^^ and more) even though he was kind to her LITERALLY UNTIL HE DIED???!?!??!??!? WHICH SHE PLANNED?!??!??!???!?!?! fairest is so wild omg

'and i can go anywhere i want, anywhere i want, just not home' this ones simple, evret literally cant go home back to his normal life with just his daughter to mourn his wife's death because levaNA FORCED EVRET TO MARRY HER RIGHT AFTER

'and you can aim for my heart, go for blood, but you would still miss me in your bones' theres 2 ways you can take this, the literal way : bc levana got evret assasinated, she literally did aim for his heart and go for blood in a murdery way, but i think the more metaphorical interperatation works better: levana aimed for his heart, as in, she aimed for the one alive person evret cared about the most, aka winter. by killing evret and leaving herself as winter's only family, levana is hurting winter, and this hurts evret (but like hes dead so he doesnt know that but it still works)

this also relates to the last line of the bridge 'and when you cant sleep at night, you hear my stolen lullabies' winter being the stolen daughter, the daughter she took from evret and solstice, aka the 'stolen lullaby' :

and all throughout winter (the book not the person), its like levana is haunted by evret through winter's (the character) existence, as she looks so much like evret and reminds levana of him AND because winter is more beautiful than levana without needing glamour, so when levana sleeps at night, she'll be thinking about her jealousy of winter (when she cant sleep at night shes hearing evret's stolen lullabies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) i'll admit this one was kinda a stretch but it works in my head

the pendent that evret gives levana on her 16th birthday is a metaphor thats talked about multiple times in the book

at what levana thought was the start of their 'relationship'

when she realises evret never loved her and the pendent (the sympathy and gesture) was evret's wife SOLSTICE'S idea (his one true love <333333 i love sol sm)

the pendant thing is summed up here ^^^^

the pendent is also present in evret's death scene, so the line in the song 'you wear the same jewels, that i gave you as you bury me' are literally true

ahhhh I’ve been binging the beginning series since I discovered ur account recently and I have so many fav moments i don’t think I could put it in one ask 😭

1. reader hallucinating aaron when she had the flu in the prison - idk there’s just something about this moment that just hits every time + them singing we’ll meet again was just so sweet

2. literally any moment of the Dixon family - theyre just so cute and sweet and dad daryl always gets me like DILF DILF DILF 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

3. reader defending robin and Lydia from gage, margo, and alfred- I love it when she gets protective of her family and my girl lydia didnt deserve to be bullied by them + those three needed to be shut up fr

4. reader getting pissed off at carol for putting daryl and Lydia in danger s10 - man I love carol and I was so sad for her but she was pissing me off too when she wasn’t thinking about how her actions could hurt others and herself + her almost getting magna, connie, jerry, aaron, daryl, Kelly, and reader killed 😐

5. chapter 76 when beta comes into the dixon’s home and robin is hiding - this entire scene terrified me lmfao I was so scared for robin but also so proud of her for trying to be brave + dog getting injured to protect her :( was so glad when rosita came and saved her 🙏

I’ve only recently got into twd again after I stopped watching a long time ago and this fic fueled my love for the show and Daryl 🫶 So sad it’s coming to an end but it was a really good run and I cant wait to see what the last few chapters have in store for us!!! - 🪐

Omg I love that scene too! I don't think anyone has ever mentioned it really, but I love it. It's the first time where we see someone hallucinating in the series, which has become a recurring theme lol. And it's the first time we "see" Aaron (tho at that point I still hadn't revealed who he was because I wanted to be sneaky lol). And I loved referencing that song We'll Meet Again. It's so haunting and yet so pretty. It fits with the whole series really well I think.

YEAH. Daryl being a daddy is the hottest cutest thing ever!! And now he's got two kids??? Double dilf.

Dude I reread that scene myself so much because I just love reader defending her family. I think she defends her family a lot in season 10 which is really sweet. I love how she brings Lydia into their family. Lydia deserved more screen time and more scenes that just show her with Daryl and being apart of the family. At least I get to include that in my story.

Right??? Like I said, I think we really see reader standing up for her family in season 10 which is awesome. I love when she is kinda saucy and sassy and doesn't take anyone's shit. She doesn't do it very often, but when she does, it's very satisfying I must say. I think she was just fed up with Carol's selfishness, and tbh, Daryl wasn't being great either. I had to write him as still helping Carol like he did in the show, but that meant for some strain in his relationship with reader in my series. But I mean, there's no such thing as a relationship that doesn't have its ups and downs so I think it worked out.

Oh I reread that scene all the time too! Robin is so cute and brave. I loved writing in that little scene. And Dog... my heart. I just love the implication that Daryl has Dog trained to protect Robin and reader too lol. You know he absolutely would do something like that.

obviously i did choose to use the backstory from SM and Power-Pack #1 for my AU but that was largely for plot parallel reasons and tying together, basically, Peter, Gwen, Janine and Kaine all as parallel characters in a small way (though gwen will be spared for the most part but obvs still shaken by being attacked), but I'm ngl the more I have read of various comics, as well as screenshots of various scenes i haven't gotten to quite yet, the more it dooooes feel kind of believable as a backstory from a character standpoint

obviously peter has always been a fighter even as a child and got in 6v1 fistfights and so on, and that's something i always keep in mind cause his anger etc. is really so key to his personality including as a kid, but (and i don't mean in a shy quiet way but rather an inability to say "no" way) he seems to struggle a lot with asserting himself/his boundaries in unwanted romantic/sexual situations like... on a recurring basis (at least in the 80s but i wanna say it was other eras too), so the notion that an older boy who he thought was his friend would be able to coerce him that way doesn't feel like much of a stretch at all really, esp for a small kid who looked to be somewhere around 10 or 12 at the time

i guess it depends on what comics you look at though and how much weight you give to issues from specific years. i'm realizing a lot of the examples i can think of ARE from the 80s lmao

i have like screenshots and notes in my timeline doc lol but i'm just musing, not trying to make a like, Rebloggable Meta Post. just something i was thinking about recently after reading some miscellaneous comics including more of Jenkins' which arguably has at least two instances of (attempted) sexual assault if you count the symbiote bonding with Peter against his will (which considering the blatant domestic abuse subtext for venom in the comic, i think it's fair to count that as a parallel to sexual assault even if it's not exactly that), as well as, of course, the Spider Queen kissing him against his will while he's immobilized (though peter did manage to fight back)

of course that comic is from the early 2000s so it postdates SM&PP #1 by like. 20 years.—idk if Jenkins was thinking about that comic (but who knows, I'M using it almost 40 years after the fact so...) or if it's just that peter is sexually harassed kind of often enough in minor ways throughout regular-ass spidey comics for situations like that to just fall into place

for jenkins though it does make sense because the really strongly recurring throughline in his runs on spider-man just based on what i have read (piecemeal, randomly, probably about half of both?) have been peter's sense of being adrift, uncertain and in many cases helpless, and he explores that a lot via both current events in both his PPSM and TSSM runs (including the plot with flash's coma), as well as flashbacks to like, Peter's stage fright as a child—whether or not you consider that in-character (i don't think it's wildly ooc cause it does seem like peter's confidence is strongly situational but i'm never quite sure whether i think it fits or not. i'm certainly not opposed to it), it's definitely part of an ongoing theme in his Spectacular run specifically, juxtaposing his sense of being lost and confused with his anger and love and stuff like that (the contrasts between the gentle way he touches his loved ones vs. the vicious way he fights Otto... chef kiss, ty ramos). i thought the scenes in the final issue were also interesting cause it has the stage fright stuff but it also has the nightmare scene where peter is naked (again, helpless and vulnerable) and the villains all around him are threatening to do awful things to him which they refuse to tell him.

idk if i'd say it's fully at sexual assault symbolism but there does feel like a hint of that there just because of the lack of specificity and peter's nudity in the dream plus the earlier stuff i mentioned w/ venom and the spider queen. i do like the stage bow at the end cause there's this strong sense of spider-man being peter's shield against the world and the symbolism of him basically existing to protect his child self (also a theme with several of the supporting cast members, in other comics by other writers, namely flash and harry)

of course that's just one author (in case you can't tell i am a little bit into Jenkins' writing 😂😂😂 he does whiff sometimes (more than sometimes) but when he hits he just really gets it for me, personally)

other earlier comics like ASM #230 and issues relevant to that plot/its characters (from 1982, so pre-dating the child molestation PSA/backstory issue by a couple years in this case) are more lighthearted or humorous in their approach but i do think they take on some kind of discomfort in the greater context of spidey, tbh... the way peter struggles to refuse amy's advances is like, a little notable to me.

i'm sure there are other examples but anyway i was just rambling idk why i suddenly was thinking of this 😂

#i know a lot of fans (esp on reddit) go beyond the general ''yeah it's not really canon'' (which isn't untrue) to a like.....#vehement denial of it that comes across as kind of shitty lol #but you know it had a purpose as a comic and if you look at comments from readers who it helped feel better about their own abuses #then obviously it succeeded and that's more important than its canonicity or whatever #but like i said i do think it's more believable the more i've read though idk whether or not i'd call it strictly canon.#it's... extra-canonical i guess #nadia reads comics #nadia rambles #also it's insane to me when people say things like oh spidey is the least tragic superhero oh peter has it easy compared to other heroes #cause like if you look at his comics as a whole.... it's like.... he is deeply fucked up and deeply traumatized from very early on #not just the naughty nineties like dude has serious abandonment issues and a lot of death in his family and a lot of deeply buried trauma #that he just kind of......................... ignores until he can't anymore 😬 but. you know. yeah he's the ''fun'' one i guess 😂#this isn't something you need to dig deep for either his trauma is present in some of his most iconic and well known comics lmao #ANYWAY
