Call for submissions for an MCR mini essay zine!

I want to collect people’s thoughts on MCR and related work in little booklets. I’m calling the series: ALL NIGHT LONG. The topic for the first issue is: general! Pick any topic related to MCR and articulate your thoughts on it.

Do you love the band? Why? Is it the instrumentation or the storytelling? The style or sets? The history or impact? Some way the band affected your life? How does the music make you feel? Does it make you cry or dance? How does it do that? What does it mean to you? What does it mean for the band members? Does it say something interesting about the world, disease, grief, love, queerness, art? Does it make you think of this other band or movie or book you love? The filmic scenes of Demolition Lovers, the rip of guitars on Hang Em High, the harrowing lyrics of Disenchanted, the personal ties to The Kids from Yesterday, the healing power of Foundations. Think about it. Then write it down.

Guidelines:

Stick to the issue’s topic

Tone can be formal or informal, technical or personal

No fiction

As little as 50 words, as much as 800 words

If you make your own layout, make sure it’s 8.5 x 5.5 inches (h x w), 300 dpi, jpg/tiff/pdf — color is fine but ensure it looks good in BW too

Send submissions to me (angstics) through DMs, email (quezmine(at)gmail(dot)com), or tagged post

DEADLINE: October 5th — EMAIL / DM for extension

NEW: Let me know how you want to be credited (name / social media handle)

whats truly insidious about ttpd is how it has me reevaluating midnights (hated every song except hits different) and being like "actually you know what get thee behind me you iconic flop" it's just such a worse crime to be boring

I know :( to be clear I will not defend midnights but it’s shifted up in my album ranking by one (1) album thanks to our new front runner for last place. And it’s made me “appreciate” midnights in that there were several songs where I would get them stuck in my head unintentionally. This one. I’ve posted about how I made friends with a dude on one of the hero forge creator groups (older cishet dude who is super kind to gay and trans users even if he doesn’t always know what exactly these weird kids are nattering on about)

He asks me a bit ago about a design I made of myself for nonbinary visibility day talking about the cool magical effects I made with the pride colors and asking me for a link to the design

I give it, curious, as I would have thought he’d want one of my characters

Not knowing this wonderful bastard was doing this not to copy the effects but to copy the portrait of me

hi!! you can actually do some poking around and find all the alternate thumbnails!! u have to use chrome but right click on phil's YT page > click inspect > click the icon that looks like a box w/ dotted lines with an arrow in the corner > click the thumbnail of the vid. it should come up with this URL (for the new video): https://i.ytimg.com/vi/QUegn1-s3-A/hqdefault_custom_1.jpg?sqp=-oaymwE2CNACELwBSFXyq4qpAygIARUAAIhCGAFwAcABBvABAfgB_gmAAtAFigIMCAAQARhlIFEoVTAP&rs=AOn4CLAxTU88vTKHhrTpMTg7Z2jVpLmPaw

from there you can change the number "1" (after hqdefault_custom_ right before .jpg) to 2 or 3 and it'll bring up the other thumbnails :) this works for his other videos too. like for example when you find the zillow vid thumbnail url it only is "hqdefault" but if you edit the url to be "hqdefault_custom_1" (or 2 or 3) you can still see all the options!!

also, if anyone is interested but can't find the links in Inspect. each video has its own name/code in URL, and it can be inserted into Emma's link between /vi/ and /hqdefault_custom_1.jpg (for example, this video it's QUegn1-s3-A, the soup video's — DRsawqWjCUE).

i checked 3 videos. we can see only 3 thumbnails, right? i know the construction worker video had 4 different ones (just Phil's face; Phil's face with a text; Phil's face and a constructor; Phil's face, constructor and a house), now it shows only 3.

i also checked the soup video that had 3 or 4 thumbnails but now we can see only 2. so it sees what's in the code right now, but not all options that were there ever. or i'm doing something wrong.

so last month i dragged my bff kerry to come see brokeback mountain with me and, to make a long story short, it was genuinely a life-changing experience. my little brain latched onto something about the performance and sent me into a slightly alarming transformative spiral about how i want to live the rest of my life. i won't bore anyone with the details, but the summary is that i have spent too much time living to appease other people, and i'm fed up. i want to live in a way that feels authentic to myself. all i've ever wanted to do is write stories! so i decided i'm going to get an MA in creative writing next year.

anyway, i wrote the cast and crew of brokeback mountain a letter, posted it, then realised royal mail is absolutely fucked where i am so it might not have even gotten there. we went again last night, so i printed it out and took it with me and handed it to mike at the stage door, which only further cemented:

a) what a nice good boy he is* b) what a fucking dork he is

* lucas too!!

i asked if he'd sign my copy of close range, and he said he'd love to, and while he was doing that i told him i'd written them a letter but wasn't sure if it had gotten to them, so i brought it with me again.

(him: i'm sure it's in the stack of mail we have me: doubt dot jpg i have not received any mail for a month)

then i explained why i'd written it: "so i came to see you guys last month and after the play i had like, a week-long breakdown--"

(him: (mounting panic))

"-- but in a good way!"

(him: (visible relief))

i continued: "i ended up thinking a lot about how i was living my life and what the fuck i'd spent it on and yeah it made me decide to get my MA next year (and oh no i'm so sorry i'm tearing up)--"

(him: it's okay!!)

"-- SO YEAH what i'm trying to say is thank you!"

mike, finally free of my rambling, proceeded to be the nicest man ever and went: "oh, gosh, that's incredible. congratulations. what's your name?"

me: sara!

him, sticking his hand out: mike.

me, shaking his hand: ... yeah dude i know who you are

him, laughing, moving on to the next person: YEAH I GUESS YOU DO. it was nice to meet you! thank you so much for coming, and twice!

just the sweetest nicest man.

anyway, then i got lucas to sign my book too (lucas: "there are some really good stories in here", me: "there sure are") and repeated myself with a little less rambling, and he shook my hand too, then went "let me give you a hug too" and hugged me, rivalling mike for the title of sweetest nicest man (they can share, it's okay) and i almost died.

and now when i start my MA i have a reminder of why i'm there:

hi. thank you so much for asking!!

First of all. I don't have a favorite... no way. the fact that smileys can be so different and unique. different styles, physical and digital, pixel or HD, transparent or jpg or gif!

I def have to say a "Yeah I liek that guy" would be: Perfectly a circle or tempting to be (thinking about the smiley balloon i saw today), Yellow, and an even smile!

But the fact that smileys can be just 1 or none of these things are awesome. I do have to say the more smileys in 1 place the better. like my first set of stickers (in a while) were these neon smiley faces. They're awesome. I also have these rainbow holo graphic smileys that i got for like 1 dollar w/ 10 sheets.

I also love its connection to school, I struggled a lot as a young student so whenever i got a smiley 100! (with dots and a curved underline) It made my day!!

It makes me really sad to know the story of the smileys creator, or atleast how someone ELSE copywrited it before him, and thats a HUGE brand now.

Its how we have so many smiley stuff, and i think the overstaturation is why it died out so much (and the strong hold on the copy write). But "Messed up" smileys are still everywhere! (not my faves but id be lying if i said i dont have a ew in my room)

I just enjoy how cheep/easy it is to make. My bf found these awesome H&M Smiley pants in a thift store recently and i adore it! And whenever I go to a dollar store theirs always atleast guy smileying at me.

I do have to say I also enjoy emoticons (the original), skype (TOP TIER), and emojis! tho the inconsistency in styles can get me :( i hate that we all cant see the same emoji! Also samsungs old ones were my FAVORITEEEE
