ships aren’t the only things people care about in shows but I think that ppl lately highly underestimate just how important romance is in a story whether you personally care for a romance plot line or not. people like romance whether they realize it or not. it can be as simple as waiting for a character to finally pop the question to another character (proposing) that’s been hinted at, it can be the “ugh, finally” when two characters kiss in a season finale and a whole other array of examples I could use. people may not be into shipping culture the way we are, but ppl are rooting for romances subtly, without even realizing it. people like romance. it keeps you on edge, you want to see the outcome.

which is exactly why I think people have a hard time liking M1lev3n. It’s pretty much “established” from the beginning. There’s no build up to their relationship, there’s nothing really special about them, their romance story is as cliche as it can get and also a play on a super sexist trope within sci-fi “born sexy yesterday” but much more PG since they’re kids. you can’t deny it. mike and el are forced together, mike is a loser nerd that no girls like and (quote by Lucas Sinclair) el is the first girl who isn’t grossed out by him. she doesn’t know anything about the world, she grew up in a lab her entire life up until that point. she barely speaks, she doesn’t know what “friend” means, she doesn’t understand privacy and all the sudden a boy is being sprung in front of her and she doesn’t even UNDERSTAND what romance is and that she could even like/love another person— and he kisses her.

suddenly she vanishes and is yet to be seen for months and they’re suddenly reunited.

there’s no development between them. el only knows what she knows from reruns of old tv shows she watches which are highly dramatizied. again. this is all el can gather about romantic relationship. her and mike do not show any development or maturity in their relationship. all they do is kiss in s3 and suddenly they're broken up for most of the season and for months after the events of s3 end before the byers move away and suddenly she wants to tell mike she loves him back???

at this point, in my opinion, el is hyper fixating on mike since hopper “died”. she needs someone to fall back on, someone that took care of her and she feels (at least somewhat) comfort and safe with. but as we see in s4, mike doesn’t seem to be able to even give her that. I don’t think el loves mike and I don't think mike loves el romantically. they never have. they don’t know what the fuck they're doing. el wants to be a normal teenage girl and mike wants to be a normal teenage boy.

but that isn’t what stranger things is about.

M1lev3n being endgame directly goes against stranger things message. it’s forced conformity.

which brings me back to my point.

this is why the general audience of stranger things doesn’t care about m1lev3n the way m1lev3ns do. they aren’t hardcore shippers, they’re casual, and mike and el give off nothing to be excited about, because el’s storyline was never about romance, it’s about found family.

but who’s storyline was directly tied to romance in s3? Will. “I’m not gonna fall in love.” immediately set Will up to have a romance storyline. The beginning of s4 “I think there is someone he likes” set will up to have a crush. The painting scene directly set will up to HAVE to eventually confess his feelings for mike because mike is inevitably going to find out the truth (if he doesnt already know). will at some point is going to confronted about his love for mike whether you like it or not which is why so many ppl became attracted to byler as a ship after watching s4. with will being confirmed gay and in love with mike, it sets the stage for a newly blooming romance and so much context, subtext in earlier seasons to go back and watch with a new lens. the duffers know what they’re doing, and byler being endgame in s5 means byler has been intentional since the beginning. they have been writing the show, the dialogue, setting the scenes and lighting and set design to directly link back to byler falling in love with each other.

I'll end this off with byler being almost at 400k followers on Tumblr, being the most viewed ship in st on TikTok, the third most popular ship on ao3 and constantly trending on twt.

M1lev3n can barely beat out bower x luigi.

"Dalek" thoughts

this episode is quintessential who. i doubt i can say anything about it that hasn't been said sooner and better, but i love the sound of my own voice even in text so,

my notes for this episode turned mostly into a list of quotes. i wish shearman had done more for the show, honestly. i have a pretty low opinion of the audio dramas in general (sorry) but he's been responsible for the most famous and best, hands down. "chimes of midnight" is iconic, just wouldn't be christmas without it

"the stuff of nightmares, reduced to an exhibit" about the cybermen. it's kind of fun to see the head of a cyberman (one of the most recognizable recurring villains of the entire show) next to the claw of a slitheen (the joke of rude). no offense to the doctor's assessment here but i think most cybermen episodes suck. "world enough and time" is the only one that's actually the stuff of nightmares

it's very telling that the doctor's terror at being trapped with a dalek turns immediately on a dime into RAGE the second he realizes it can't shoot. oh, he is angry, and he's projecting hardcore about it being a failure, worthless now that it can't kill. "the coward survived" it says. "not by choice" he says. not by choice, i think that's so telling

it's not by accident that this episode is set in america. i'm impressed at how well they predicted the rise of elon musk, van statten is exactly the type and i wish the dalek had exploded the stupid dr phil looking bitch. "why sell one cure when i can sell a thousand palliatives" kill yourself dude.

obviously there have been essays on essays written about "you would make a good dalek" so i won't go on about it too much. it still hits, but the part that i find interesting is that the episode draws this little triangle between doctor-dalek (survivors of the time war, murderers, cowards), doctor-rose ("the woman you love"), and rose-dalek (gives her dna, mutates it). we see a lot of companion-as-doctor-parallels in new who (rose in s4, doctor-donna, martha IS a doctor, amy's daughter is the doctor's wife, clara's whole thing) and so i think a natural extrapolation from this episode can be "rose would make a good dalek" like i think that could be an interesting thing to pick at. she has a really dark streak that fascinates me

got a little twinge of annoyance at the whole "you're the one pointing a gun at me" bit like i'm sorry. but it's a DALEK??? you can play that game w ANY other antagonist but i'm not going to disagree with the doctor's assessment that this thing needs to be blown to hell. i don't have an inherent problem w violence. eleven's little speech in "town called mercy" comes to mind, that's my own dark streak i guess. shoot the fucker. "oh it's changing" it is about to change into goo, when i shoot it, with my gun. bye

but i like the dalek trying to comprehend what it is now. i like that the doctor says he's sorry, bc he knows how deeply that change goes against dalek beliefs and values. it wants to feel the sun, but it's hurting. it's kind of lovecraftian but from the other side; this creature, bred selectively for violence, has had the sudden glimpse of a world with mercy, love, fear, kindness, tenderness, and it has no structural framework or capability to process what that might mean. you see this in feral animals sometimes, they snap and cringe even from gentle touch bc they do not have the part of their brain that tells them what "gentle" even is. they can't comprehend it. but the dalek can, for just a moment, and it begs to die, bc it's too much. i do feel for it here

When Kagami and Alya had a little more screen time they insulted their characters, however when they give Luka's character more screen time they don't even say a half word. I don't know how you think but I'm tired of this fandom and above all I'm tired of the lukanette stan of their insults towards Adrien and Alya. Sorry for the outburst.

no need to apologize, i'm of the same opinion. i think i'm over it, for the most part, and i happen to care very little about what other people think re: ml, but the adoration for luka baffled me because i couldn't understand it, and i hate it when i can't understand something.

here is a summary of my findings:

- as marinette is the main character and her pov is prioritized, people tend to project themselves onto her A LOT. you get people salting on chat noir not because of the context of chat noir's actions, but because they personally don't feel attracted to chat noir, and assume that marinette doesn't either. you get people resenting adrien because he doesn't return marinette's affections, which makes her 'suffer'. the show itself sometimes props up marinette's pain while neglecting adrien's, for example the episode the puppeteer 2, in which the fact that adrien's friends were hanging out with him because each of them wanted something out of him was glossed over, while marinette's heartbreak took central focus. just notice how people tend to make chat blanc about her and her only;

- a big part of the audience struggles to imagine how certain situations look in the eyes of other characters;

- predominantly female audience identifies more easily with marinette;

- all of this leads to double standards. people salt on adrien for continuing to pursue ladybug, nobody salts on marinette for continuing to pursue adrien after finding out that he's in love with someone else. i talked about it a bit more here;

- glaciator, syren, frozer, malediktator, all happening within one season, and then chameleon airing a month after the season 2 finale. some people had a problem with all of these episodes, some with a few, some with one, but it generated the adrien salt community, and s3 brought the alya salters forth;

- i do think that adrien in particular is too mysterious and confusing for the audience;

- luka is a great character for projection. he didn't even have a backstory until s4. his personality is agreeing with whatever marinette says, while seemingly having no desires of his own besides 'make marinette happy'. in some twisted version of the world, this turns into an example of how ~healthy lukanette is, even though in healthy relationships both people have their own unique personalities and motivations, and that can lead to conflicts sometimes. luka never has conflicts with marinette, therefore he's better;

- the guitar boi thing? the cringy love confessions? he seems chill, mild-mannered and nice, without much complications or contradictions, and that works for some people;

- an overall very weird obession with ~~justice, seriousness, hard work, which just turns into revenge in the fandom's hands; i've described this point of view as very american in nature;

- some people love to turn marinette into a victim and act like all she does is suffer. i've even seen salt towards her parents. if you know a thing about tom and sabine, you'd know how insane that is. nobody is allowed to criticize marinette in-universe. everyone must bow to her for some reason, and when characters don't do that and instead act like normal human beings, they get salted on for 'mistreating' marinette;

- a lot of second-hand embarrassment over how marinette acts when adrien is around leads many to prefer lukanette and assume that luka is the better match, when the point is that if she was in love with luka, she'd be a mess around him too. if you are a hardcore marinette stan/adrien salter, you probably think that the show ~~~humiliates and punishes marinette for her crush on adrien, because you're so into your own goddang self-projection that you don't see that she's the main focus of the show and as such, the writers don't hate her;

- an interesting point (credit to @flightfoot because i read it from her first) is that a lot of the people who dislike marinette have lost interest in ml and no longer keep up with the show, so marinette gets the least amount of salt. can you imagine adrien or alya pulling what she did in ephemeral and getting away with it?

- a lot of victim-blaming of adrien from people who have never experienced parental abuse and demand that he 'grows a backbone'; annoyance about his lack of agency in the show (as if marinette is investigating who hawk moth is, mhm); a lot of anger that the writers want people to empathize with his situation;

- kagami is the least feminine female character and is interested in adrien, adrien is only allowed to be interested in and have a relationship with marinette. fandom logic;

- alya gets interpreted as pushy and a bad friend even when she isn't hurting marinette, because alya knows that her best friend has troubles with being in her head too much, but would regret it for life if she never acts on her crush. however, that would require a bit of a nuance on the situation, so alya gets salted on;

- the show repeatedly painting luka in a positive light only, while alya and kagami have had plenty of unsympathetic moments, and alya's trustworthiness is even questioned, while luka's isn't even up for debate, yes, in the show, not just in the fandom.

so... yeah. it's a combination of a lot of factors. i'm pretty sure that i've missed some things. like you, i'm very tired of it, but for me, personally, understanding how this happened helped me deal with it, and now it doesn't bother me as much, perhaps because i try to avoid it or at least ignore if it i stumble upon it. it doesn't hurt to have a bit of an aggrandized self-belief in your own views. you can't change people's minds on the internet if they're hellbent on a version of reality they prefer and exist in an echo chamber that only supports their views. and you shouldn't bother either, anon. just cultivate who you want to follow from the fandom and make your weird posts, if that's what you're into - that's how i deal with it. :)

Reconciliation - 1,278 words, Cherik fandom, post-Dark Phoenix.

This is a favorite because it helped me make my peace with the way Charles and Hank’s relationship was left at the end of Dark Phoenix. I found it really satisfying to fill in that gap.

Charles calls Hank from Paris, and they say some things they needed to say.

Peace and Unity - 951 words, Cherik fandom.

This is a very unusual tone for me, dark yet cracky. It was SO much fun to write.

“Charles, are you all right?” Raven said cautiously. “You’re acting… a little strange.” “Oh, I act like this all the time," Charles said absently. “You just don’t remember it later.”

Morph - 3k, Cherik fandom, Animorphs AU.

The audience for this is a little... niche, but man, I still love Animorphs so much.

Charles and his friends have been through a lot of awful stuff since the night they found a crashed spaceship, the night a dying alien gave them the power to morph and a chance to save their planet from invasion.

a.k.a. Charles and Erik rob a candy store and have their first kiss.

if i leave before you, darling - 688 words, She-Ra fandom, post-series

I went through a hardcore angst phase with this pairing (Catradora), kinda still in it, and I just really loved how this came out.

“What would you do if I died?” Catra says. “I mean… I know you’d be sad, but you’d eventually find someone else, right?”

watch your step (love is broken) - 3.9k, She-Ra fandom, mid-s4

I’m ridiculously proud of this one. The angst is killer, and I’m just still in love with the whole concept.

"You're in heat, kitten." Double Trouble shifted, and it was not their own voice that continued, but Adora's. "I'd be happy to help you with that."

Favourite Doctor: Ten, ten and always Ten. I just love David’s portrayal’s of the Doctor more than I can say. I love the good, and I love the bad. I love when he’s being an idiot, when he’s flirtatious as hell with Rose (omg the memories) like you two get a room, when he finally snaps, when he’s a dumb oblivious as fuck and you want to smack cause he’s being an asshole, I love when he’s heartbroken. The faces David pulls are the best thing in the world. Like his ‘I don’t want to go’ ARE YOU KIDDING ME DAVID??? And the whole Doomsday episode, his blank face against the wall omg I’m gonna cry right now. And when this bitch has the audacity to disappear before saying it aaaaahhhh. But also the way he talk quickly and absolute nonsense. His ‘er’. When he’s being silly as hell with Donna, those were the good times. When he’s angry yelling, but also when he’s cold angry in the end of The Family of Blood. When he realize things and make the ‘oh i’m so stupid thing’ but also when he’s realizing sad thing like with the end of Donna. Bitch when he cries under the rain like some edgy boy, I cry too. His smile when things are getting exciting, but also the smile going into his eyes that is just for Rose and only Rose Tyler The various face he makes with Donna, all the non verbal communication. Also when Martha decides to leave and you can see that he’s (too late) proud of her, and after that when he sees her again he’s being honest with her..The way he pronounces certain words if that makes sense???? Also David’s whole acting in Midnight, that was insane on so many levels. And least but not last : his iconic hair. I don’t think I need to tell more. And aside from that, I love all his season’s arcs, all his companions are my top three favourites. And of course, my close second favourite is Nine, cause without Nine, Ten wouldn’t be the Doctor he was.

Favourite Master: tbh I’m not that much into the Master, but I guess it’s Simm!Master cause I love his arcs. But I also love Missy as a character (not sure about her arcs though)

Favourite Sonic: I love both Nine/Ten’s sonic and Eleven’s sonic.

Favourite Companion: aaaaahhhh not this question lmao. So I can’t really choose between Rose and Donna. I just love them both too much. So I’m not even a hardcore shipper of anyything by tumblr’s standards at least lmao, but the Doctor and Rose (both Nine and Ten) as been the first fictional couple I deeply rooted for (like I’ve enjoyed a lot of other ships before but never as harder and deeply) and that I still root for after all these years (in fact Clexa is the only other one that goes that hard, but everything else is just phases, they come and they go but they never stay). I love the tragedy of them, bitch who am I kidding, I love it that much cause it’s a tragedy lmao. I just love how they both make each other better, but also how they flirt like dumbass teens, how they communicate, how they cry for each other. BUT, and it’s very important, I love Rose for herself. She’s not just interesting because of the Doctor. She’s so relatable for instance? Like she’s not from a wealthy family, she clearly doesn’t give two fuck about fashion (or was it 2005 who was like this?), she’s not too smart, too pretty (ok she’s definitely is for me), too much of anything, she’s average. And I love this a freaking lot you can’t imagine. She has flaws, and yes that’s exactly what we want in a character. Yes she has moments when she’s being selfish (but who doesn’t? especially when in love), and yet she has some of the most beautiful selfless moments,sacrificing herlself in Doomsday is the best cause she was literally gonna end up in the void but she didn’t hesitated for one second. Also when she’s showing empathy for other people, she’s being caring and understanding. And she doesn’t take anyone’s else bullshit, she call them out, and that include the Doctor first. Just because she loves him doesn’t mean it’s gonna stop her from telling him to stop being a punk ass bitch. Also she evolved so much between s2 and s4, and I don’t think it’s character inconsistency, it’s just that it happened off screen. BY THE WAY I WOULD VERY MUCH A SPIN OFF ABOUT ROSE TYLER HOPPING WORLDS THANK YOU VERY MUCH @BBC!!!

Now Donna? Where do I start? She’s also average, and also very relatable. In fact, personnally I think she’s the most relatable for me. Using humour, snark and sass to hide 10 thousands insecurities? Yes that’s the most relatable thing ever. Donna is the funniest character but she’s also the one who has the saddest ending in my opinion. Cause she grow up, she sees the world, and she understand that she is THE shit, she matters, she is important, and then she forgets all about it. That’s so cruel, and heartbreaking and angering, cause she deserved everyfuckingthing, she deserved the world. And her departure hit me so fucking hard. She’s going back to her life, thinking she would be not enough, I can feel that so deeply. Aaaahhh I’m hurting myself writing this. But she’s so amazing, she’s smart, thinking out of the box really make her so great, and she’s the one who take the least shit about anything. She stands up, yells, makes a scene, but she get straight to the point. Also she’s not the young and conventionally attractive companion and she knows that. And she’s so funny and sassy, and close to the Doctor. I mean she’s the Doctor Donna for a reason, she’s like a human version of the Doctor, with the sass, the babbling, the clumsiness. God I love Donna so much, I wish I had so much more of her. Also she has absolutely zero romantic feelings for the Doctor and the fact that they are the bitchy bffs of the universe is the best.

Favourite Story: I love a lot of stories, but my favourite is The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End no doubt. The story is a perfect mix of happiness, having every RTD’s characters together, all my fave working together is the absolute best, and of sadness, the departure of Donna (I won’t re talk about it ok) and Ten letting Rose go AGAIN. And the fact that there’s everyone he loves in these episode but then he ends up all on his own. God why do I love being hurt so much??? And the Daleks are also my favourite villains (it’s just such DW bullshit as a villain tbh lmfao) so I have everything I want. Generally speaking I love RTD’s arcs, cause the sign are here the whole seasons (Bad Wolf, vote Saxon, the bees disappearing and she’s coming back) but it’s not a ‘HEY LOOK THERE’S SOMETHING FISHY TO SEE HERE HEYYYY’ or ‘WE ARE STARTING THE SEASON WITH ONE QUESTION, ONE PLOT POINT AND THAT’S WHAT YOU’LL WANT TO BE RESOLVED BY THE END OF THE SEASON’, it’s subtle, it’s casual mention, and it’s when you’re in the last three episode that you’re starting to realize something is wrong...That’s one of my favourite type of writing ever (that’s probably why I love Sanderson’s books too). It’s not some mystery to solve, cause there weren’t any mystery to solve, because me, a dumbass viewer, weren’t even paying attention at first. But it’s here, it fills the plot. And when you see it you’re like ‘of course’. It’s not forced on me if I can say it like this. It allows me to see other stuffs. It’s not attention seeking I guess? But yes the end of s4 is my favourite story, all is in place. All characters do what they do best. There’s laugh and there’s tears, and I love it.

Favourite Soundtrack: everything Murray Gold has been doing for the show is pure gold and I think that’s a thing the whole fandom can agree upon. My artist of the decade according to Spotify is him, and considering I haven’t listened daily to his songs (except for some still regularly) I think that say a lot about how much I used to love both his music and the show at some point. My favourite of his are Doomsday’s Theme ofc, Love Across the Distant Stars, I am the Doctor, Rose’s Theme, Amy’s Theme, Clara’s Theme, Vale and cry. All of them. And that include the one soundtracks for episodes I don’t even like lmao.

Dream Actor for next Doctor: I don’t know, why not John Boyega? He deserves to be the main character and be treated well, of a sci-fi show.

Dream Composer: Murray Gold come back to me. Or I would love a glimpse of what Lorne Balfe could do.

Dream Story: Something that involves seeing Rose and Tentoo, and Martha as the Earth counselor, with Thirteen still having feelings for Rose. And Rose too. But the plot? Idk lmao. However the end would be sad cause Thirteen would have to see Rose and Tentoo coming back to their world, and I would cry. Also Thirteen would aknowledge Martha as the smarter companion the Doctor had ever had lmao.

A Companion You’d like to see back: Martha, but like not as a companion cause she made it clear that she would not come back, and that wouldn’t be fitting her character if she changed her mind. But she could always be accidentally stuck in the TARDIS, I mean it happened once. But really I would just love to have her coming to the rescue when shit on Earth goes too far and the Doctor needs help of a specialist. That’s Martha you need Doctor.

An Enemy/Alien/Creature you’d like to see again: I’m always here to see the daleks.

on this blog? i find isaac gets along really well with a large array of muses, but i’m an enormous fan of the ship compatibility with dani @dangeress. isaac and daphne get each other. it seems to cross over into multiple universes with the kind of ease i am very pleasantly surprised by.

002 . what are you willing to write when it comes to shipping ?

pretty much everything. enemies to lovers, childhood friends, starcrossed, domestic, bad/good, soulmates, tragedy... 99% of the time, i’m up for it. i will never be up for writing isaac cheating on his partner, however. he just... wouldn’t do that.

003 . how large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable ?

i write isaac predominantly in his early to mid 20s, and i cannot see him dating anyone who isn’t also in their 20s. as for canon interactions where isaac is still in high school, only characters in his year cohort would be considered for crush relationships.

004 . are you selective when shipping ?

sort of. i don’t need chemistry testing in-character before plotting out a ship, i just need an ooc conversation to see how we bounce off of each other plotwise! isaac definitely has a type when it comes to partners, but i’ve made those details pretty obvious over the years on this blog. if you’re new here, his type is either 1) soft-hearted and deserves the entire world, or b) can kill him and he will say thanks. there is no in-between.

005 . how far do steamy moments have to go before they are considered nsfw ?

the removal of clothes, basically. and to be honest, that’s generally when i will fade-to-black on this blog -- if it ever gets that far lmao.

006 . who are other characters you ship your character with ?

i’m assuming this is canon oriented, in which case, literally everyone in canon except for erica and derek. i am extremely dubious about shipping with stiles, but have done so in the past, so it can be done here, if i have a mutual understanding with my rp partner.

007 . does one have to ask to ship with you ?

not... necessarily. if by ask, you mean replying in tags to me during a thread like ‘these two are flirting hardcore’, sure, that’s all i need. usually, we can tell when there’s chemistry, and i just let my character do whatever the heck he wants. to be frank, isaac is the vodka of teen wo/lf and mixes well with everyone. he finds everyone hot (within his age bracket), so... take that on board. feel free to ask me if you’d like to 100% clarify where his attraction stands though! i’m always happy to goof ooc about my idiot son.

008 . ship obsessed, or ship more-or-less ?

i’m predominantly here for the plots, not the ships. ships are just happy accidents that coincide my main goal: to write an interesting interaction between multiple characters, in a world that is so far removed from my own. i love character exploration.

i am, though i hesitate to ship with duplicates, as i do not want to mistake interactions between different blogs, or seem like i’m not writing something unique.

for isaac? i don’t know. i used to have otps, but now, with the ageing of this blog, i’m a lot less certain. i like the idea of cora or malia for him from a canon pov, and do believe one of those ships might’ve been endgame in other circumstances. i used to love the idea of scott and isaac, but s4+ murdered that when they chose to forget isaac exists.

my anti otp: I really don’t hate this ship as much as I used to thanks to my 5D’s rewatch, but...... F//aithshipping. It was a perfectly fine ship in the Fortune Cup and Dark Signer arcs, but then 5D’s continued on after that and any implication of the ship just made me want to cry. of sadness. b/c it was SO FORCED!!!!

May 4: Thoughts on 4x10 Die All Die Merrily

So as expected this episode was generally pretty boring and focused primarily on the people, events, and actions that interest me absolutely the least in this show. But as I said, I was anticipating as much, so in a weird way, I was pleasantly surprised? I was expecting nothing and got a bit of something, whereas, for example, last episode I was expecting a lot and got less than nothing and was super disappointed. So... I actually feel kind of...good...for having watched it? Weird.

Anyway a few observations (in chronological order today because I actually paused to write down a few notes this time, which I don’t usually do for first watches):

Clarke would have sided with the council on the Ark, I think we’ve now more than established that. Her line to Roan “I want humanity to survive, even if it’s not my people” is pretty much indistinguishable from the guiding philosophy of the Ark, except that there were fewer “factions” on the Ark, so “my people” might mean, like, my family or my friends or this poor parent stealing medicine, etc. I’m not mad about this, I think it’s interesting. Clarke was so morally righteous about the Ark Council in early S1 but when push comes to shove she adopts their way of thinking: that the whole is more important than the parts. And even though I don’t have much by way of concrete thoughts on the Bellamy and Clarke stuff in this ep (yet?) I do think it’s inevitable, narratively, that they come to a head, because his guiding philosophy for the apocalypse is “We save who can we save today,” which is much more about the parts than the whole. (ETA: I do know she was lying but this is her philosophy, that the big picture is the most important thing. And while she was obviously taking the bunker for just her people, not the Grounders, she was also influenced by her belief that Luna would win, meaning that it was her people or nothing in her mind.)

I’ve never cared for Echo as a character or thought much about her appearance wise but she was looking hella hot in this episode.

Octavia’s Roan voice is hilarious. “I am a serious warrior now, a Damaged Person who’s Seen Things and Felt Tragedy and now wields Weapons of Death so I must talk in a low gravely voice all the time.” Imagine S4 Octavia stepping out of the dropship and snarling “We’re back bitches” lol.

I was thinking during the announcement of the champions (or whatever they’re called) that this Grounder language really makes no sense and is not consistent. I mean obviously they’re going to primarily speak English on this show but...didn’t they say once that only warriors understood English? I bet they’re regretting that line hardcore right now. Because it is QUITE obvious that everyone and their baby sister knows English.

Because my never-indulged-in kink is Emotional Conversations and Relationship Development there were a few scenes I liked. I enjoyed Bellamy and Octavia and Kane: I liked how smart Bellamy was (side note: the whole mess with Clarke and the twist ending could have been avoided with proper communication; she didn’t realize O had like a Great Plan in place to win and basically gave her up as a lost cause too soon haha), I liked the Octavia and Kane hug. I also enjoyed the Indra and Octavia scene, though it would have been better if their history wasn’t quite so...fraught. And I liked the Indra and Gaia and Kane and Bellamy scenes as well. Probably my favorite of this set was the Kane and Indra conversation, though. It still bugs me that we have no idea how they became the BroTP of BroTPs but...at least we have them.

Bellamy: “I will not stand for cheating! I will not stand for it!!!!!” The moral core of the show.

I hate Polis but it is a cool set, I will give it that.

Unpopular opinion but: Luna is the worst. I have never been a Luna fan. I liked her introduction and the first shot of her rig but ever since she’s been nothing but annoying and she’s been Extra Annoying this season. I do not regret in the least bit that she is gone lol. Maybe I should be interested by her whole philosophy and story or whatever but I’m just...not. It strikes me as very shallow and flat. Like absolutely the least amount of thought was put into it. Let’s-go-to-the-common-room-and-talk-about-apartheid Unyielding Morally Superior Undergraduate Faux Hippie devolves into Unyielding Pseudo-Goth all-humanity-is awful-without-question-or-exception kill machine is just not compelling I’m sorry.

Basically my biggest problem with this episode is that it is an Octavia episode and I’m just not that interested in her and haven’t been...well, ever, really, but I lost what little interest I did have in her when Lincoln was killed. Like, the episode was actually better written and plotted than I was expecting, but I still couldn’t really care about its main character. I do wonder why this is. Is it because of the fandom? Is it because her arc has been badly written? Is it just because it’s not to my taste, not bad in any way in particular but just not suited to my personality? I don’t know,

Re: the Roan and Echo scene: where tf did the word “sire” come from? Like I know what it means but has anyone ever called anyone else that on this show before, ever? It seems like kind of a weird word to survive the apocalypse considering these people’s closest real world ancestors are 20th century East Coast Americans lol.

Anyway, Roan was great in that scene, though. I liked his devotion to honor as an abstract concept not just like a badge you show to people so you can trick them into trusting you, and honestly it’s scenes like this that make me sad to see him go/hopeful that he’s not actually gone.

Also re: that scene, while I am of the belief that it’s Octavia, not Bellamy, who is at fault for the sibling rift, I did think the sequence where she overhears him talking about her was touching. Like I was touched ngl.

While watching Kane and Indra and appreciating their friendship, I started wondering if inter-clan dating/marriage/procreation is a thing. Like they all mingle together in places like Polis, certainly some people have got to fall in love outside of their little group. What happens then? Does one person leave their clan? Were there people watching the conclave who were like ‘well, my husband’s clan is gone but my birth clan is still in the race, I wonder if I can like sneak him in when we win?’

Re the deaths: I don’t care. As I said, I’ve never liked Luna, and as I might have mentioned repeatedly in other posts, I’ve never liked Ilian either so good riddance to bad rubbish that they’re gone. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Roan, and my mom likes him so I feel bad for her that he’s gone, but my feeling generally is...if he does miraculously come back, that will be cool, but if he doesn’t, I won’t miss him. In a way, I’m glad for all of these deaths because I feel like they were supposed to be really Upsetting and Scandalous and maybe that means we’ve filled our quota of death for the season. (Also, except for arguably Roan, these are all the sort of people who die a lot on this show: mid-level guest stars, characters introduced earlier in the season, etc. These sort of deaths comfort me because they show me the writers have some idea of how to kill people in a “we gotta kill people SOMEtimes” environment, as opposed to deaths like Wells’s or Lincoln’s that are just like ???? narratively.)

As for the ending...I know O made the right call morally and that in a sense it was the only thing she could do in this story and in order to fulfill the theme. She had to say the bunker is for everyone because that’s the truly humane thing to do; it not only honored Lincoln, it showed how wrong Luna was about the inherent badness of people. But...honestly when she was talking my first thought was to groan and think that this means that YET AGAIN an ENTIRE EPISODE was literally and completely POINTLESS like omg will literally ANYTHING happen EVER??

And the ending...Ok. IDK what to think of Clarke’s decision morally, like I didn’t have an instinctual reaction to it and I haven’t thought much about it because I just finished the ep like half an hour ago... but practically speaking, as it turned out, it was really dumb lol. If she had just let things run their course, Octavia would have won anyway, and then they’d be in place to keep the bunker without betraying anyone (or, more importantly, causing damage to the incredibly precarious political peace that Roan established with the conclave idea) and it would be fine. I mean, she’d have to contend with O’s promise to give space to other people but like I said, I don’t think Arkadia still has 1200 people so there’s wiggle room here. Plus, Octavia’s pronouncement made everyone all warm and fuzzy and compliant for literally the first time possibly EVER, so I think arguably some nice diplomacy, like by Kane perhaps, could have had at least a shot of smoothing things over. But nope. Griffin’s gotta do it all herself.

Basically, I’m saying: way to have faith in your friend, Clarke. Yet again she says all the right things, but then just like...does whatever the fuck she wants (see what I did there?) otherwise. I mean it’s very consistent and definitely IC of her and in that sense I can’t be mad, especially because her ruthlessness is actually one of my favorite traits of hers in a way but... I would like to see her grow. Finally. A little.

In particular “I have no choice,” “I did it because I had to,” “I’m doing what I have to do” and all variants thereof need to die. Or at least be Called Out. Because it’s never true that only one choice exists to a person, first of all. And second, it’s obnoxious. It’s a pass the buck phrase if ever there was one. I guess what I’m saying is I’d like Clarke to take responsibility for her actions finally, especially because I think she’s had enough opportunity to learn this lesson. I thought maybe her S3 experiences might have helped. Also and most significantly, experimenting on herself instead of Emori in 4x08 did seem to be her finally comprehending that “I have no choice” is a falsehood. I know she was still being a martyr when she did it (her misuse of the Dante line) but STILL. UGH.

Also...obviously there’s a lot of THE SKY PEOPLE ARE BECOMING MT. WEATHER AHHHH going on, and it’s not subtle (experimenting on people, “welcome to Mt. Weather,” the gas canisters that are literally from Mt. Weather, the 4x09 blockade), but I don’t...really know what to make of it tbh. It’s falling a bit flat but I don’t know if that’s just me being dumb and/or unappreciative or if it’s a problem with the construction.

Yay two seconds of Miller. I love seeing him as a leader type.

BUT...sorry, what is this ridiculous stuff about each Station getting like half a floor though? Alpha, Mecha, Farm, and the occupants of prison station made it to the ground. That’s it. And most of Farm was killed by Ice Nation either during the hiatus or in 3x03. So, like, where are these alleged Hydra station survivors? Are our three Factory people (Bellamy, Octavia, and Mel) going to get a whole level to themselves or something? The inconsistency, it astounds.

And...yep, that’s that.

AHHHH Nonny you’re in luck! As I’ve been sorting, I’ve been separating them into word length too, LOL. And seeing as it’s National Novel Writing Month, I think this is a great time to give our fandom writers love and appreciation for their novel-length works!

So I Googled how long a basic novel is, and according to this site, it’s between 40k and 90k. Hmm, well, I have them sorted in 25K chunks, so I’ll start at 50K to 100K, since it works seeing as NaNo’s writing goal is 50K :D).
