Last ones are just alternative outfits now which is just Jills 3 alts and cowboy rebecca

nico robin and her smile

hiiii ok has anyone else ever thought about the person robin was before joining the straw hats? like who she was when she was at her worst? because i do. a lot. so go along with me here

from her introduction, robin has this very small smile that feels cunning and is seemingly meant to taunt luffy and co. it creates a sense that there's a canyon's depth of difference in power between her and the others.

robin's is a subtle character in her expressions compared to most other major characters in the series. and i think it fits her background of having to work in subterfuge. (???)

she maintains this expression throughout multiple scenes. the same shape of her smile that is so exact that it has to be with intention. this is the face of ms. all sunday. this is the person robin had to be in order to survive.

and yet each one still has it's differences and that's robin being not so perfect at hiding her true feelings (which btw i love that robin will always be exactly who she is). she's stressed or even strained at times. while also feeling perfectly at ease, but still performing a role.

i think for the most part. robin didn't mind what she had to do or who she had to be. because she's pragmatic, but she was definitely bothered by vivi and the strawhats. they're the ones who cause robin to show anything other than that static smile. notably when she is faced with vivi and luffy's determination.

and i've rambled about it once before robin is a kind woman at heart and who has a soft spot for the crew + vivi. their earnestness breaks through her own desire/need to not care for the effect her actions have on the lives of others.

notably the only times robin does seem to genuinely smile is in small sudden outbursts around luffy when something he does makes her laugh.

and throughout the rest of the alabasta arc. robin's clearly uncomfortable with facing the real destruction of alabasta at crocodile and her hands. later revealing that she never planned on helping him obtain the poseidon weapon. she never once smiles, instead dropping everything to focus on getting to the poneglyph.

after that though? she does her miss all sunday smile one last time when she asks luffy to join his crew. it's a famous panel, we all know it, we all love it.

the longer robin was with the straw hats. the more she began to genuinely smile. it's well established that being on the crew brought back joy and laughter into robin's life, that being with them gave her a reason to live again. but it was a slow start until we got to see this robin more often and more freely who is cheered by everyone's bright youth and excitement in being alive in a ways that she never had been allowed.

On the back of; ‘42!Miles was always meant to be Spider-Man and you can see the 42 spider going to bite him before The Spot yanked it to our Miles dimension.’ I propose that is the original anomaly that started all this. Miguel said it’s our Miles being bitten (and I’ve seen others propose maybe Miguel isn’t meant to be 2099 but I don’t think that’s a good direction to go and I hope they don’t, Miguel’s not the real villain here, he’s an antagonist).

But I think it’s because Earth 42 has no Spider-Person at all, not because our Miles became Spider-Man or 42!Miles became Prowler, they just swapped fates, not a huge change all things considered. It’s the fact 42 has no symbol of hope, that’s why the entire city is in such a state, that’s the anomaly.

I am compiling a list of some good cosmo-centric/triad singin’ in the rain fic

and also a list of trans!daphne from some like it hot fic

BUT the tl;dr of both of these if you’re impatient (because I am slow and have not yet read through all of those tags) is that there’s quite a lot for both of these on AO3 and I can greatly recommend going through for your own fun, so you don’t rely too much on my opinion

turns out some like it hot and singin’ in the rain are lowkey favourites for neat queer fic writing, who woulda thought (I say, knowing it makes perfect sense)

(there’s also one fic called Lina Lamont’s Big Revenge, which isn’t about any of that, but is about Lina Lamont. She’s one of my favourite characters of all time and I just think it’s a neat fic, she deserves to not be thrown under the bus for simply being a Girlboss with a great sense of style and business)

Curious what your thoughts are on the situation with Beau and his ex wife? What do you think happened there?

idk probably the usual shit. beau caught some case that he couldn't let go of. found himself a white whale, became obsessed to the point where he was damaging his marriage (and likely his relationship with his daughter) and eventually carla decided (rightfully, understandably) that she'd had enough and that the situation had become unhealthy for her and her child, so she left. and he was probably all shocked pikachu face about it. that's usually how the story goes. it's a story that's used often in fiction because it's unfortunately pretty realistic. there's also the grief counseling angle that we haven't gotten into yet. that could definitely play a role in the whole thing. grief can absolutely fuck up a marriage.

i mean sure it's also possible that she and the daughter are both awful and terrible and he was the only wronged party (as some people have already decided despite the fact that we know literally nothing about what happened) but...

to be frank, beau comes across as charming, affable, generally kind, and obviously very handsome but he also comes across as a man with with rough edges he's trying a little too hard to sand out, deep regrets, possibly some misplaced anger, and some kind of unresolved trauma he's still trying to recover from.

props to him for being an active participant in his recovery though. a lot of the things he mentioned - breathing exercises, telling jenny not to hold hate in, walking to work, fishing, even the punch list are legit things that can be recommended in therapy, especially treatment for grief and/or ptsd. so he's trying. even his whole bubbly and occasionally overly friendly and babbling persona could honestly just be a dude who has seen some shit trying his best.

there's a lot there under the surface with him, that's for sure, and i'm excited to see how the writers unravel him.

#these guesses are based off of standard storytelling tropes #but also that fraction of a second in the beau focused promo where he's still wearing a wedding ring and clearly in a texas cowboy outfit #and he says 'told you i'd get you'#it was a millisecond in seconds long promo bit there was....a frantic edge to his demeanor that made me think origin story flashback #so that's my guess #also for the record i am seriously side eying the hatred directed at carla (who has not yet appeared and we know next to nothing about)#and at emily who is a teenager acting so far like a normal teenager #like that's not thinly veiled or internalized misogyny that's just straight up unapologetic misogyny and i fucking hate it #so i admit i'm hoping that he was the one who fucked up #just so that people will shut up #beau arlen #big sky #asks #anon

#ky speaks #i've been kinda freaking out about having to come out as trans at work #i live in a very conservative cowboy town #and work at a horse hospital #and am really nervous about how people are going to react or treat me #but there is one vet (a woman) who is married to another woman #and everyone seems to really like her and her wife #but being okay with gay people doesn't mean they'll be okay with trans people you know?#well that vet never sends out emails but she did today #and in her signature she has her pronouns #and that makes me so damn happy #gives me a little hope that at least she will support me #and this is why having pronouns in your bio even if you're cis is so important
