#i have not touched TLOK since i watched the show finale when it aired
Text
i know im not breaking new ground for saying legend of korra is disappointing but so much of the series is genuinely off putting to me. the setting, the tone, how the narrative tortures korra it feels like
which is a shame because I love korra as a character (even if her writing isn't The best at times). but there are so many aspects of the show I don't like. fuck there's so many characters in the show I dont even like either

kyalin - part 1
Tw: self inflicted wound / character death
Post-TLOK / book 4
Summary: Kya and Lin are already together and Lin’s repressed fears show themselves in an unexpected way.
Notes: Bear with me, as this is my first and also english isn’t my mothertongue. If y’all like it, imma maybe write a second follow-up chapter. + my laptop won‘t let me chose the correct quotation marks...
RESTLESSNESS
Kya was tugging at her hands. „Stop it Kya!“, she huffed, trying to loosen the waterbender‘s firm grip around her wirsts. „Don’t be a bore, just do it! Deep down you want to.“, Kya said shaking her head. When Lin started looking around in search for objects to cling onto, she thought it best not to keep dragging her towards the big windows leading to the garden. Afterall she didn’t want Lin to stomp her feet into the ground. Moving the stubborn woman wasn’t worth damaging their floor.
„Fine!“, she gave in, stepping out into the rain, back turned on her lover. „Alone I go.“ Without bothering to bend the raindrops away from herself she swung around, blowing an exaggerated kiss towards the smiling sillouette, leaning against the windowframe.
Though Lin wasn’t surprised anymore by Kya wandering off into the garden at random times to dance – even in the rain – she didn’t like the idea of being dragged outside herself – especially when it was raining. She much rather stood there, watching her. The silver hair gradually clinging to her shoulders as it became increasingly wet, her tan body moving swiftly as she seemed to be playing with the drops, rather than avoiding them.
As a blow of wind swept by the open window she felt the cold air raising goosebumps on her skin. „Aren’t you getting cold?“, she asked in consideration. Kya stopped spinning and stood with her arms stretched out to regain her balance. „I won’t be if you bring me one of your sweaters.“, she said smirking at Lin.
When she came back from the bedroom, sweater in hand, waiting for Kya to approach her, the other woman didn’t even think about moving. „Stop teasing and come here. We don’t want you getting a cold.“
The waterbender innocently shrugged her shoulders. „Well then you better get over here soon to warm me up.“ Lin knew it was a waste of time arguing with her and her clothes hopefully wouldn’t be soaked, spending a few seconds outside. „The things I do for you.“, she mumbled, stepping onto the lawn.
Desperately trying to keep her scowl, she felt her face growing softer as the distance between them closed. „Look who made it to the party!“, the waterbender kept teasing as she pulled the sweater over her wet clothes before quickly leaning in for a kiss. „Ew, Kya, you’re drenched!“, Lin complained after pulling away. „An now so are you. Come on, just dance with me.“
The earthbender held both hands over her head, shielding her hair. After contemplating for a moment she gave in to Kyas smug smile and wrapped her hands around her waist. „Alright, you win. But we’re going back inside in two minutes.“ The waterbender nodded slowly and placed both her hands on Lins shoulders, encouraging her to sway from left to right.
They each had their focus on the other until their foreheads practically touched. The cold was almost forgotten when after a while Kya broke the embrace and took a step back. Certain of victory she clapped her hands together and the rain stopped completely as the clouds vanished within the blink of an eye. Lin didn’t have time for her confusion to fully settle in before Kya asked, „Don’t you want to say goodbye?“
Her voice was filled with fear, causing Lins heart to sting. „What are you talking about?“ She reached out for Kyas hands but froze as she saw her pulling a kitchen knife from behind her back. „What are you doing?“ Terror filled the earthbender‘s voice as her stance instinctively widened. „Where did you even get that?“
Kya slowly moved the knife towards her own throat, maintaining the eye-contact. The feeling of helplessness swallowed Lin whole as she tried moving but found herself paralyzed. „Kya stop it! This isn’t a joke!“, she exclaimed as the other woman rephrased sternly. „Say it! Time’s running out! Say your good-bye.“ Lin shook her head, trying to regain her sense of self. What was she talking about?
„Drop that knife!“, she demanded, internally thanking her inner chief for kicking in. A relieved sigh escaped her mouth as Kya complied, moving the blade downwards. „You should have just said it.“, she whispered disappointedly. Her words were accompanied by action as she plunged the knife into her chest without a sound or wince.
Lins eyes widened in horror.
Kya fell back, smiling.
„KYA!“, Lin screamed as her voice cracked and her legs gave in. „I’m sorry! I’m sorry!“, she cried, pressing the other woman against herself, rocking the both of them, „I’ll say it! I’ll do it! I’ll say good-bye.“ She couldn’t hear herself against the blood rushing in her ears.
Kya looked up at her, chuckling, „Good-bye’s over now, silly.“
A wave of panic rushed over Lin as she felt the body, she was now hunching over, grow limb. The next wave followed as she felt a strong hand ripping her wrist to the left and a voice calling her name.
„Lin.“ She felt herself blacking out but after a few breaths she noticed she hadn’t blacked out but woken up. „Lin, Lin.“, Kya mumbled while waking herself and turning on the lamp ontop of the nightstand. „What’s wrong? Are you ok?“
Lins eyes met hers and even in the dim light and with squinted eyes, Kya saw a kind of fear she hadn’t seen since Ammon had taken Lin’s bending. „Breathe.“, she reminded her and pulled the blanket away from atop them, revealing the tense body next to her. „You’re home“, her soft voice filled the room, „You’re ok.“
Lin slowly calmed her breathing and her eyes closed in exhaustion. She tried her best to reach their blanket, but her body still wouldn’t move. Kya sat up straight trying not to let the worry she felt, take over her facial expression. „Can you let got of my hand now?“, she whispered as Lin’s breathing slowed down. With now both hands Kya carressed her lover‘s limbs and face, bending away the pearls of sweat, which seemed to gradually lead to less tension. „Try going back to sleep.“, she said, leaving kisses on Lins cheek. She almost overheard the hoarse voice finally answering her, „Can you stay awake, until I’m back asleep?“.
„Of course.“, she smiled, carefully sliding closer and drawing Lin into a loose embrace.

Did you watch the last episode of Korra when it was first out and figure out that Korrasami was canon because of the ending? You said on Twitter that it made you cry with joy, but I saw it and it pissed me off because I knew it was just more wishywashy shipteasing. And then to my total surprise, a few hours later the creators said it was canon. But it never would have been canon without their confirmation. I still hate Korrasami because it gets praise while shows that try harder get shat on.
Yes, I watched it when it aired and I figured they were canon just based on the ending of them walking off holding hands. I personally didn’t see it as shipteasing and I think Bryke did what they could given that it was on Nickelodeon.
I know people have issues with that finale/with how Korra as a whole was written. I haven’t watched TLOK since it aired, so idk my thoughts on that really (though I do remember having issues with the annoying love triangle).
But regardless, I still really liked Korrasami being canon and enjoyed their ending. Mainly because Asami was my favorite and I was sad that she lost all her family, so to see her be with Korra at the end, it really touched me, even before I heard the canon confirmation that they were a couple.

Feed a cold, starve a fever
Summary: Aang tries to fight a cold, with a little help from Katara.
Word count: 1,754
Author's note: Will I ever stop writing about this couple taking care of each other when one of them is sick?.. *whispers* Nope. NEVER. Anyways, my dad has fallen ill - he had a weird feeling like his throat's becoming sore (it went on and off) for almost a week, until he really felt under the weather this Friday (the 13th, talk about bad luck.. I personally don't really believe that though, 13 has always been one of my luckiest numbers). I'm just glad he only has a cough now and that I haven't caught his cold yet. *spits over her shoulder 3 times* My dad's a Libra (born in October) and I swear he's a true airbender at heart - besides the personality, he seems to treat colds just like them (not wanting to take any strong medicine until it gets worse). So this time, have Katara taking care of a poorly Aang (since I've written it the other way around quite a few many times before). Also, (the title is) inspired by (a saying in) "Don't Blow It", a short comic from "The Lost Adventures", which I happened to reread recently (I reread them all and I was laughing half the time, they're so good!). I imagined they're in their early twenties, so at least Katara's wearing the same clothes as seen in the "Old Friends" poster. Aang's only wearing long pants and the same socks as seen here. The story takes place in their home on Air Temple Island, specifically in the room that viewers of TLOK would know as Tenzin's study (which I headcanon was theirs before because.. THE FOUNTAIN!).
----------x----------
Focus... Breathe in.. Breathe out.. Don't swallow, don't swallow!.. Ugh, I need to swallow again..
Aang gulped and grimaced as the soreness scraped his dry throat. He wished he had some honey to soothe the constant pain for even a couple of minutes. It didn't help that he had to breathe through his mouth due to his almost-clogged up nose.
All of this was making his head hurt. He rubbed at his temples, but quickly withdrew his hands under the blanket he'd wrapped around himself. Shivers ran down his spine and he felt the need to pull the blanket closer, but it wasn't helping. An extra layer could come in handy right now.
Brrr!.. Cold-cold-cold! Why did I have to do that? Okay, focus.. You're an airbender, you can warm yourself with your breathing. Breathe in..
A loud series of coughs echoed to the hallway from the study room. Apparently his special breathing technique didn't work with colds. Once Aang had caught his breath again, he curled up even more and continued shivering. Accompanied only by the sound of his wife's element flowing inside the small fountain behind him.
What's taking you so long? Katara, please come back soon.. I don't feel so good.
His stomach growled, reminding him why it'd been almost half an hour since he last saw her. After all, preparing lunch for her sick husband as well as searching for some medicine and supplies from the healing hut wasn't a simple task.
At least she'd helped him pull on the yellow woollen socks she'd knit for him years ago to keep his feet warm while she was busy. Aang rubbed the soles to stimulate the blood flow. His feet felt like ice blocks against his heated palms.
Wait a second.. of course! Firebending can help me keep warm!
He took a deep breath and tried to puff out a small stream of fire, but forgot about his sore throat.
Ow-ow-ow.. Ow! Too hot!
The flame he'd swallowed, and thus extinguished, formed a puff of smoke instead and forced him into a horrible coughing fit until he hacked it all out.
"How are you feeling?"
He looked to his right and saw Katara at the doorway, carrying a tray of food and some of her instruments. He hadn't heard her come up the stairs and enter their study, but he was so glad that she'd finally returned.
She waited until he finished coughing, placing the tray on the floor in the meantime and grabbing her own pillow to put it right next to the one he was sitting on.
"Worse than before," he replied, watching how she knelt down on her pillow right beside him. Her cool palm found its way to his hot forehead.
"I take it that meditating didn't help?"
Aang shook his head.
"Not at all. There's too many symptoms distracting me all at once. Neither airbending nor firebending helps."
Katara gave him a loving smile as she stroked his flushed cheeks with the back of her hand.
"Well, maybe waterbending will. Cause unlike airbenders, us Water Tribe folks don't just let a cold 'blow itself out'. We prepare remedies and treat the sick person until they're better," she insisted. He let out a defeated sigh.
"Fine. You're the healer. Correction, the best healer in the-"
"Shh.. save your voice. You almost sound like Appa already."
Aang huffed and pouted at that comment, even though she was right because his voice did sound hoarse. But his grumpy face only made Katara giggle.
"Besides, I wanna listen to you in silence," she added while grabbing the stethoscope, which she wore around her neck. He watched how she put it in her ears, breathed on the metal tip and pulled the blanket off his bare chest a little so she could lay it above his heart.
The cool air intruding through the exposed part in the blanket and her slightly cold fingers touching his skin gave him chills again, which in turn made his runny nose even more stuffy. And that slowly made his eyes want to begin watering. He blinked in vain a few times to hold it back.
"Aww.. Don't cry, sweetie!" Katara comforted him in a slightly teasing tone, wiping off the small streak of tears on his cheek. Aang sniffed and gave her a pathetic glare.
"Ha-ha, very funny."
"Shh!" she hushed him again by holding a finger in front of her lips.
"Breathe," Katara ordered in a much more caring tone, moving the diaphragm a bit higher to listen to his lungs. He tried to take deep breaths and follow her orders, but it turned out that he couldn't breathe that way. He immediately went into another nasty coughing fit.
"Oh my.. that doesn't sound too good," Katara spoke in a low tone. She frowned and rubbed the blanket on her husband's back while auscultating from his chest, not needing to ask him to cough anymore since she'd already heard enough. She lifted the tip of her stethoscope from his skin a minute later and hung the medical instrument back around her neck.
"Does it hurt when you cough?" she wondered.
"No.. I just have this itching feeling in my throat and it's making me co-"
And he started again. Katara let Aang catch his breath and picked up a cup of ginger tea, which she'd boiled for him, from the tray. When he stopped coughing, she handed it to him.
"Here, drink your tea. If you sweat it out, hopefully your fever will fall a little. And if that doesn't work, I'll lower it myself, should it get too high," she said, patting the pouch visible on her right side.
"Thanks, Ka-.. ah.. ah.. ACHOO!"
His sneeze accidentally blew the tea out of his cup, but luckily Katara was well-prepared and caught the liquid with her waterbending. She bended it back into the cup. At least he'd gained better control of his sneezes through the years and didn't fly through the ceiling of the temple each time.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome. Now, drink," she ordered and held a hand below his to lift them up to his mouth. Aang sighed in relief after two sips.
"Aahhh.. that's the stuff."
"I put some honey in it," Katara said as she softly massaged the back of his neck. The sensation sent another wave of chills down his spine, but these were the good kind.
"You're an angel."
She blushed. Aang would've wanted to kiss her, but he settled for giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze to show his gratitude.
That tea really worked wonders. His throat seemed to become a lot softer by the time he finished drinking. Katara had snuck a thermometer under his arm to measure his temperature as well. She put the empty cup back on the tray and reached for a bowl and a spoon.
"What's for lunch?"
"I made you some noodle soup, just like you asked."
Aang brought his nose closer to the broth and attempted to get a whiff of the aroma. The sniff sounded more like a snort though.
"Mmm.. smells delicious."
Katara stirred it before she picked up a spoonful, but instantly dropped it back.
"Oh, one more thing! Say 'Aahh'!"
Aang rolled his eyes and chuckled, but obeyed by opening his mouth and sticking out his tongue to let her have a quick look.
"Hmm.. your throat does seem a little bit red. Still sore, huh?"
"Uh-uh," the airbender nodded in response. She stroked his cheek for a moment, then lifted another spoonful to his mouth to feed him.
"Let's get some of this soup into you."
Aang slurped the tasty broth and felt how the warm liquid softened his throat. The warmth collecting in his tummy started heating up his entire body from the inside and he was sure that his fever would begin to fall soon, too.
He rubbed at his eye to prevent a second wave of tears, then continued eating. His gaze met Katara's for a second before she averted hers back to the bowl in her hand to lift the next spoonful to his lips.
Her brows were slightly furrowed in concern, but the small smile in the corner of her mouth showed how happy she was that she got to take care of him. That he'd eventually allowed her to take care of him her way. It made him smile back at her.
He shut his eyes for a moment when she fed him another spoonful. When he opened them, his gaze had dropped to the bowl she was holding in front of him. It shifted to her chest and near her waist when he noticed her healer gear. A sight he'd gotten used to within the past few years, ever since she'd established the first hospital in Republic City. Her hat, uniform and belt were missing though, but she rarely wore those at home anyway.
He reached out his right hand from under the blanket, mindful of the thermometer still under the other one, and poked the metal end of her stethoscope, making it swing from side to side near her belly. Katara gave him a puzzled look, but started giggling when she saw what he did. Aang's smile grew. The medical instrument reminded him more of a long shiny necklace than what it actually was. And he thought that it suited her appearance really well.
His hand rested on her thigh, his thumb softly rubbing her navy blue tunic from that spot.
"Open wide!"
He raised his head to look at her, his grey eyes widening a bit in surprise. He'd forgotten to open his mouth for the next bite of delicious noodles. He complied and, having swallowed that spoonful, watched how Katara stirred the remaining soup in the bowl, then tenderly grabbed her hand with his own. She gazed back at him, sensing how he caressed her knuckles.
"Katara.. thank you."
She released the spoon on the edge of the bowl and stood up on her knees to carefully shift closer to him. She wrapped her free arm around his neck and simply gifted him with a hug, feeling how Aang returned it, the palm of his right hand landing in the middle of her back and pulling her close. Katara hummed in delight.
"Mmm.. you're welcome, Aang. Anything for you," she murmured into his left ear, and he could've sworn that she even gave it a light peck. Aang wouldn't have wanted it any other way either.

"Turf Wars: Part One" - a review
I am a very happy girl tonight.. My 7-months-preordered comic book FINALLY arrived, yay! I read the first part of "Turf Wars" around 1 am and I absolutely loved-loved-loved it! It really gave me the familiar feeling of TLOK (I haven't watched it since last year *sob* and now I miss it but I'm busy rewatching ATLA currently, will have to continue with TLOK after that). Okay, I'm still shaking a little because I'm so excited, but I'll try to write down some of my favourite things about this part:
First off, in general it was so gay, there's so much happening, but it's all sort of related and balanced out rather well imo, the illustrations are pretty *bows to Irene Koh*, the colour palette is soft and it all left me with such a nice impression! I'm very pleased that this is the first TLOK comic book ever to be released (almost forgot "Friends for Life", but "Turf Wars" is the first trilogy). I have no idea why I've seen so much critique about these kinds of things, but none of it bothered me at all. I think some people are only focused on (pointing out) the negative sides that they've forgotten why they're reading these comics in the first place - to enjoy reading them, to notice every positive little detail instead, to appreciate the fact that life goes on in the Avatar world and we've been blessed by Bryke to see it through these beloved characters.
Secondly, I think I'll mention some great moments I enjoyed very much. Obviously I can't get around the way Korra and Asami interacted - the loving gazes, the kisses, the hand holding, worrying about each other, talking about their feelings, fighting alongside Team Avatar, putting arrogant businessmen and the President in their place. It was so precious to see them doing everything together (and NO, it wasn't too much for me)!
Korra coming out to her parents - their reactions were realistic. I especially liked that Senna hugged both Korra AND Asami, too. To anyone who wasn't too happy with Tonraq's reaction - it was resolved later when Kya talked to Korra that it's Water Tribe tradition to keep very personal matters to yourself (I love that it's special in the Water Tribes and how Korra's face softened when Kya said it). This is such an important lesson and it's one my family has propagated as well (my parents taught me). Not everybody has to know about everything private that goes on at my home, if only my closest friends and family members. This is why I related to Tonraq, even Senna said what he meant - that not everyone won't be as accepting. And do people blatantly ignore the fact that as Korra was rushing out of the palace (with Asami's hand in hers, demonstratively) Tonraq apologized?
So they're now heading back to Republic City.. D'aawwww!!! Aang and Katara's children welcoming Korra and Asami back. Enough said. One of the most heartwarming moments. Poki for President! Meelo, you little nugget, I love you. And Korra stroking Poki's head, so cuuuute! Asami being a little shy about going with Korra to give a speech (because she's just the Avatar's lover.. Oh c'mon, Asami! Do it like Katara did when Aang had to thank everybody after the invasion failed, am I right?). I understand her and Korra was understandably disappointed. I love that Kya noticed it and later went to talk to them about it. Her smirk when Tenzin said that those two make a good team together. Kya, you lesbian goddess, stop stealing my heart, I'm straight! Also, I loved that Korra quoted Tenzin during her speech, that was touching.
Air Temple Island is such a beautiful place.. Aang and Katara had it good over there. I mean, that pretty bi-flag-coloured sunset, I'm in love! Kya's conversation with Korra and Asami meant so much to me (one of my favourite scenes EVER in this comic, if not in the entire series concerning Kya) and I can't wait to see more of her. If not, then I'm actually satisfied this time since we learned a lot more about her from these little moments where she was in. The most important being that AANG LOVED HER AND WAS FULLY SUPPORTIVE WHEN SHE CAME OUT TO HIM! Take notes, fandom! Aang and Katara loved all of their children, they only wanted the best for them and they tried to be the best parents they could be *drops mic*.. Also, yeah, when's Bumi's turn to interrupt his father's reincarnation's private moment with her girlfriend during that sunset? Ha-ha!
Did anyone even notice that the police headquarters is now temporary? Did that building with Toph's statue get wiped out during Korra and Kuvira's battle? Aww, I'm sad if it's so, I loved that statue because Toph was in her police uniform there.. *remembers that Toph has 2 other statues in Zaofu* Never mind, moving on! *lol* Then again, can I say how happy I am that Kya was in the evacuee camp helping the healers!? This gives me hope that maybe we'll get a peek at the hospital (and KATARA'S STATUE in front of it) if someone gets injured in the following parts!!! Also, even as a little girl, Kya totally went to work with her mother at the hospital (Katara would let her daughter play with the medical instruments or practise her waterbending and healing in her office, she might've gotten annoyed by it a bunch of times but eventually she'd always end up playing along to take a break from her paperwork). This is my headcanon and ain't no one stealing it from me now. Help, I NEED to draw this!..
Zhu Li taking command at the evacuee camp, damn yes! She's got my support for the election! Korra smirking when she sees President Raiko's campaign poster.. *lmfao* Same, Korra, same... His support is NEGATIVE 3%, pffft.. I can't breathe, this entire meeting was hilarious!
Wonyong Keum (note: this guy has a surname, a rich type) - it took me two pages and I already knew I hated that guy. Asami's right, she doesn't need his condolences. I giggled when Korra scared him and his workers away by going into the Avatar State and ever-so-gracefully airbending herself back down. Omg that smile, she was so pleased with herself (and so was I)!
Can we talk about the fact that Tokuga took out Viper by using his hook swords (the same weapon of choice by Jet) and can hold his own even as a nonbender? Just a reminder that nonbenders can be just as powerful as benders.
BOLIN!!! Bolin is such a precious gem throughout the book and I can't even.. Still talking to the captives and Mako being annoyed af (seriously, the changes in his expression in each panel are on point). Two-Toed Ping is a hoot, I really like him. Also, Bolin calling the first double date - my son, you are too sweet! Mako's.. god.. damn.. face. Mako.exe stopped working. *lol*
Ugh, I just adored that sweet Masami hug! Also, the radio frequencies have been screwy ever since the spirit portal appeared - I think this might play an important role in a future part. They wouldn't have put it in there otherwise (unless it was just meant to show that during this battle they were in trouble because they couldn't call for help). And the fact that the spirits' darker side appeared due to negative energy coming off from the battle - I didn't expect that, neither did I expect that bird spirit to be the one to charge at Tokuga. Since he saw Korra talking to it before it came for him, I don't blame him for thinking the Avatar sent the spirit to do that to him. Also, Korra having to choose between protecting Asami or stopping the dark spirit - this might turn some of the townspeople against her when they find out (if they think she was playing favourites and Tokuga tells them she ordered the spirits to attack humans).
In conclusion, I really miss TLOK, but this comic made me experience so many emotions, the familiarity of the characters and the breathtaking locations, the plot and the pace of action - everything made me feel like I was actually watching a brand new episode of the show and wow, I'm crying as I type this.. *rubs eyes* It made me feel at home, welcomed in a world I fell in love with back in 2012. I couldn't be happier.
