You know what- this season is genuinely such a delight at times. Im thinking about adding it to my regular rewatch list along with 1-13 as just like a little bonus I can have at the end cause it’s just such fun. Glorified fanfiction! We love to see it- maybe Restoration sucking was a blessing in disguise cause it really gave me a new appreciation for 15 and 17 (but 17 especially). I probably won’t rewatch 15 as much cause being honest I don’t really enjoy it in its entirety as much as 17 but it’s got good moments I love.
Now- I know the logical thing for me to do is go back and watch 16 and then Restoration but here’s the thing… I don’t want to.
I genuinely do not enjoy those seasons. I don’t want to put myself through something that’s just gonna make me angry and bitter just for the sake of giving commentary on them- not right now anyway. Maybe one day I’ll feel like being a bit salty and do it but that’s just really not how I want to spend my time with my favorite show. I’ve already rewatched any clips from restoration that I cared to rewatch and I don’t think any of my feelings on it are gonna change. And I’ve seen 16 enough times to know my feelings won’t change.
Now what I am considering doing is rewatching 1-13 for the 20th time (<- accurate number, I’ve kept count over the years) and continuing to do these thought posts cause they’re good fun to do! So who knows whenever the time comes you’ll probably have to deal with more of my insane ramblings 😂

In some states, charter schools ARE being funded by taxpayer dollars. The entire game for the Republicans is to actively defund public schools with charter schools. A student leaves the public school and their funding goes with them. THE ABSOLUTE BATSHITTERY OF IT ALL IS- if that student isn’t happy with the charter school and decides to enroll again in public schools, the public school has to take them at any time WITH NO COMPENSATION FOR THE RETURNING STUDENT. They just have to make do with less teachers, resources, etc. Every year, public schools wait to see if they get positions cut based on the incoming student population. But they are completely skewing that metric with the potential failure of any charter school (money laundering scheme).
There’s also often next to no oversight on how charters spend their money. So, there’s also that.
Yeah. Yeah, this all checks out.

See, this is why the argument for "states' rights!!!" is always just a thinly (VERY thinly) veiled dogwhistle for racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. What do states want to have the "right" to regulate on their own? Slavery? Interracial marriage? Abortion? Gay marriage? Why do they think that the federal government has no right to universally legislate these things (that is, if it's a Democratic/liberal government; they're fine with full-on federal tyranny if it's from Republicans) and that their "right" to discriminate should be legally preserved? This goes all the way back to the arguments at the drafting of the Constitution in 1787 and the question of broad-reaching federalism vs. the "rights" of slave states, and the rickety compromise they had to put in to make it work at all, which obviously came to a head during the Civil War.
Likewise, "states' rights" are only the conservative argument until they're not. After all, two months after SCOTUS overturned Roe by arguing that abortion "should be left to the states," Senate Republicans introduced a NATIONAL abortion ban, which they tried to soften up by calling it a "late-term" ban. First of all, 15 weeks isn't "late" by any stretch of the imagination, and second, what happened to letting "the states decide?" Nah. Turns out that was only ever a lie meaning "states can do what they want only as long as it's exactly what we want them to do, and actually we love universally and draconically imposing our rules on everyone. me: hermes is a painfully accurate example of how some ways of defending yourself against certain kinds of insidious emotional abuse, gaslighting, ableism, and therapy speak can warp you into a person whose learned helplessness and lack of perspective can result in doing really shitty things, and who passes that abuse along in different forms (hi meteion) + lashes out in disproportionate ways + can be deeply hypocritical.
me: as a disabled person in a society where our systemic mass murder via pressure into government-sanctioned suicide is on the rise, the ancients' society is beyond fucking upsetting to me. i have zero sympathy for anything to do with them pre-apocalypse except for the effects of living in that system.
me: that said, they are a good opportunity to remind oneself that there are children in that burning building; that a society being fucked does not mean they deserve to be wiped out; and that that does not mitigate the harm they do, nor mean that its victims are not allowed to be angry or resist it, including the victims inside it.
